Starting point is 00:02:13 courtesy of mind of one erin alexander wow what a journey that was what a journey that was andrew are you okay i'm okay i feel like your feel like your your pulse is pounding right now it's always pounding yeah i could hear it in your voice you've got that matt murdo i'm hearing flexion in your tone right now. It's intense. How are we all feeling right now? Everyone shout at one word. What would you all think?
Starting point is 00:02:40 Right now. I'm going to go first next to no one's going. Bad ass. Awesome. We're back. Redemption. Yes. Daredevil redemption better. Badass.
Starting point is 00:02:52 We're back. I love it so much. Aaron, dude, you just watched all of Daredevil born again yesterday. Yeah. Finally. You didn't pay attention at all when we reacted to it. time now you got you got to watch the last night for the first time oh man it does hit a little different when you're watching because part of the job is we have to commentate in addition to watch it but yeah i feel like this was a really strong entry back into born again i i'm a
Starting point is 00:03:19 rewatch i had some issues with it it's good it's not as good as the original three seasons but i feel like it did a great job when this episode really bringing us back into the reasons why i love the original one so much is not just Matt and Fisk, though they're amazing parts of the show, but the entire cast, the city of New York, all the people surrounding it, investing in those characters. And I feel like that was definitely a highlight of this particular episode. Which character did you find that you were, because you were emphasizing a lot on the supporting cast, which character did you find you had the most catharsis for getting more emphasis on? Probably the, what's your name? Heather? Yeah. I think seeing Heather, seeing
Starting point is 00:04:00 where she's at leading into, you know, where the season's going because we didn't really see her outside of the context of Matt. Also seeing a Kirsten a little bit more made me really happy because you see that Matt chose her for a reason. He chose her because as a partner to replace Foggy because she and her and of herself has a good heart, even put in the opportunity to, you know, be financially enriched by the opportunity to go against Matt, even not knowing where he is, she still chose to stay fast in in their firm and what they believe and what they stay true to. So I thought that was really great.
Starting point is 00:04:38 Also, the fact that Bibi is now involved with Karen. That was something I was really hoping for, seeing going into season two. We only got one scene of that. But still, the fact that we are embracing our full cast and showing the strengths of those people in the absence of, you know, some of our other characters that we love from the OG really made this a more fulfilling experience. This feels more like the. Season 1 part 2, then a true season 2, because I feel like with season, you have like a whole story that kind of concludes.
Starting point is 00:05:04 And this is, you know, the next part of what we were already ramping up to with season 1. Yeah. Yeah, it's good points. Good points all around. And Andrew, what about you? Anything that you found to be an improvement so far? Yeah. I mean, first of all, the action and choreography was fantastic.
Starting point is 00:05:20 I also really felt Matt's brutality in his rage. He was really trying to contain that all of last season. And he really was born again. Right? And just watching him, first of all, too, that that suit looked incredible when it was lit up and also in the darkness. I love that freaking suit. Probably might be my favorite one right now. But I do agree with Aaron. I like that we're really focusing on a lot of the supporting characters. And it should feel like an ensemble. I think that was one of the things that made the original three seasons so special to me. Yeah, Wilson and Matt are at the forefront, but those other supporting characters really elevate those shows. shows into something, those seasons, rather, into something really spectacular. And I already like the way they're setting up, like, when it comes to Daniel and Beebe and Kirsten, I already
Starting point is 00:06:07 know so much more about those characters. And I think I have an idea in my head where possibility where they could be heading, like, just the relationship between Beebe and Daniel, like, she's afraid to get too close to him and what the emotional compromise could be to that situation. And also Daniel, like, especially after watching the film, Devil's Advocate, about, like, all right, I've got everything I want and what could, what this, could be at the brutality of shedding my soul and what I finally get what I want. So I think they are like setting up a lot of interesting things
Starting point is 00:06:37 when it comes to the supporting cast, but still we still get our icing on the cake with our two main characters when it comes to Wilson and Matt, like all that is still fantastic. But I really do love that they are giving us a lot of good stuff with the supporting cast, which I felt like was really, I still like Born again season one, but I feel like that was also really lacking in the first season.
Starting point is 00:06:57 We were watching you, you were commenting a lot on Karen Page and Matt being together. And like you seemed like you were really touched by that. Yeah. I elaborate a little bit on that. Yeah, no. I mean, you instantly feel their chemistry and just there's, I think you said it best, too. You really feel that warmth whenever they're together. I feel like in the first season when we were with Born again, I mean, there is that
Starting point is 00:07:16 bias because we've spent so much time with them throughout the first three seasons when it comes to Karen and Matt and also foggy too. But when it comes to the relationship, the intimate relationship between Matt and Karen, because we spent so much time and we'd spend so little time with Heather and Matt I never felt that way as much as like they're both
Starting point is 00:07:35 very good actors and like the scenes are okay but I never once felt that they had the chemistry going between them and I never fully bought them as a couple and I wanted it to work out
Starting point is 00:07:46 with them of course but I could never stop thinking about Karen that she's the right one for Matt and just instantly when you see them it's just want to to my heart as well. So I think that was the proper word to use.
Starting point is 00:07:59 But I do like what Aaron said as well, that I like that they're paying a lot more attention to Heather this season. We're going to focus a lot more on her trauma because that makes a lot of sense after what she experienced. Like, even though I thought they wasted the character of Muse, like to have him come back in this type of way of haunting Heather, I think is a smart way to psychologically for her character. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:22 Corey, you want to talk about government authoritarianism and fascism? Let's talk fashion. That's not happening. I think they should really work on making this more realistic. Frankly, it's a bit too fantastical for New York or any major city to persecute people based on where they're from or they're maybe not belonging and following a status quo and hiring people and getting people to follow orders and just saying they're just following orders while wearing badges isn't something that could ever happen.
Starting point is 00:08:49 I love that this show has balls. I really like that this show. Daredevil ball again. Daredevil is a character that is in the MCU and in Marvel comics in a way that is kind of unique. I always see Daredevil as kind of this dark figure amongst light characters. He's not dark in the same way necessarily as like a venom or characters that are like by their nature, but there is a darkness to him that I think is very enchanting. I think that's why I get so many girls.
Starting point is 00:09:25 I think that's why so many characters want to impress them. But like there's a, there's a nests to Daredevil that I really love that I felt like season one of Born Again scratched at, but didn't quite get there. And I love Daredevil Born Again because it was bringing the character back. And I think I liked it more than the average, but it didn't quite feel like the Netflix show. And the Netflix show felt like the comic. This one episode feels like a course correction. It is doing what the first season did so well. which is kind of making a beautiful quilt out of the old show they canceled,
Starting point is 00:10:00 and then the Netflix show that was exceptional and tying it in. And now that we've got the beginning of the quilt, it feels like Justin Aaron can kind of make it beautiful.
