Greg, how you feel in the five words?
Got it, got it, got it, got it.
Let's go!
All right, you guys, we have just finished episode two, season two,

Also, in addition to that, we are over on Patreon for Greg and John do exclusives, and you can do the full length watch along of this Daredevil adventure, plus many other things over there.
And yeah, I think that's all the things.
So, without further ado, let's get into our feelings post-air double thoughts.
Oh, my God, this was so good.
Let's start with Andrew.
Hey.
Over to my left.
Yes.
I'm feeling, buddy.
I'm feeling great.
I am loving this season so far.
It is brutal.
It is suspenseful, terrifying, and so many different other things that I would describe it as.
You know which storyline, though?
I mean, we talked about this last episode that they're really doing a good job of making this an ensemble.
as opposed to really just focusing on Matt and Wilson,
but I'm really locked in on that Daniel storyline
just at like what he does at the cost of possibly losing his soul.
And then like he views Wilson Fiscal hardly as his hero
and that he would do anything for that man.
But he's, I like that in a lot of his facial reactions.
He's taking another look at himself and also at Wilson.
Like this could also possibly be everything I'd,
do is could be the last thing I ever do in this world. And also, you know that there's, uh, he could
have sold out BB at any moment to just to protect himself. And you can tell how much he cares about him.
So I like seeing that, that side to him gives him, gives him, gives his character. I, I like watching
the character really being fleshed out when it comes to Daniel. So I really like that they're giving so much
credence and so much, uh, uh, uh, I just like that they're giving so much to all these other supporting
characters, especially someone like him. And then, even if it's like, like, you know, even if it's,
even in a small scene with Heather,
you can still see that we're still dealing
with so much trauma with her,
even when she's talking about certain events
and stuff like that.
But when it comes to the main storyline,
you still right away,
always feel the stakes.
And when it comes to what Fisk is doing
around the city,
that martial law and all that,
and I think that was such the appropriate way to go
after how last season ended.
And I love what we're doing.
I believe, is it Angela, Hector's,
I really like where we're heading with that storyline.
It's really tragic everything she had to deal with.
And now, you know, she's had, she's been in this role where she's had to go to people for help.
And I like that she's going to have to call on herself to, you know, rise to action.
And not only it's an honoring to her uncle, but also kind of honoring to all the things that Matt has inspired her to do as well in that, in helping and to become the white tiger and to inspire others, hopefully.
So yeah, there's so many different things that I'm doing
And then the freaking the action choreography at the end, phenomenal.
So I'm really digging.
Just these two episodes, as much as I really adored Born Again, season one,
these two episodes have already just gotten me so excited for the rest of this season.
I'm already loving it so much more than last season.
And really quickly before we move on,
I know you were just mentioning as a joke.
Like they're doing the thing that you not care about where they're intercutting
in the scene between what?
Wilson and Matt, see, they only did that one time in the two episodes.
So I don't mind if you do it sparingly.
It's when you do it often three or four times in an episode.
That's where it gets a little jarring and tedious to me.
And that's where I mind it because I'm like, I understand their parallel,
but also their dark mirrorings of each other.
And like, yes, I understand.
So that's where it got a little bit much to me in the first season.
But this is where I like it where you use it, like, at the right time,
where it feels more effective.
Definitely.
Yeah, great point.
Greg, how you feeling, man?
Like, in general?
I mean, yeah.
You know, ups and downs.
Okay.
That's good.
What did the Daredevil do?
Did it make you up and make you down?
Say it moving me up.
All right, nice.
I'm happy.
Coy?
Feeling hungry?
Same.
A little peckish.
Yeah.
You could have a bite.
Feed her a little bit.
I like Daredevil, though.
Yeah.
Yeah, I could also eat.
This was a fun.
You know, we get lunch after this.
There's some wings or something?
I don't know.
Or some, you know, some fresh New York food.
I don't know.
But, yeah.
Overall, feeling good.
Yeah.
Anyway.
Who's thinking of the show?
Yeah, those are all great points, Andrew.
And I like, I see this season is going to be much stronger.
A hundred miles.
Yeah.
Easily.
It's very apparent how much stronger it is.
Like, the question.
of will it top Netflix
or be on the same par as Netflix
is a whole other category
of questions and you
can't really make that assessment until
the season is done
to give it to be completely fair
as it stands it seems like
every bit of adjustment
is carrying through here
the part that I'm excited for to not
just repeat anything of what Andrew said
is everything
with bull's eye
there's a clear
love that they have
for Bullseye, when you look
at what they did with season one,
there's a limited characterization
but it wasn't until they stepped
in to take over episode 7
when they started bringing back nuance
to Bullseye again.
And specifically with this color choice
aesthetic of a
blue feeling malevolent.
You know, normally blue is not associated
as that color a lot of the time, but there's
quite a like a
depression to it. There's a
haunting blue, nightmarish-esque that they provide for him.
And to start this episode off so early on with him seeking absolution in a church where he really crossed,
like he did some horrific acts in season three, but then he really, there's something that felt very sinister
about murdering people in a church, particularly a priest, that felt very, very evil, for lack of a better word.
and I don't know if the guy's Catholic or not.
The stance the reason that a lot of these characters who live in New York City are probably Catholic.
He seems to be some type of dark mirror to Matt Murdoch in a lot of ways.
And I love everything they're building up with him.
Like he could have even taken the shot at Vanessa at that particular moment, but he chose not to.
So there's an interesting conflict that they're building up there.
And while they are also letting them earn what,
seems to ultimately be will become an unlikely alliance between him and matt and how that will feel
with the audience like you it's easy to assume that from the last episode that we might just swing into that
they reserved it they held off they're still letting bullseye build up and i like that they're
going back to the characterization of his psychology you know like the one thing i think that this season
is already making an improvement on is like when you look at the netflix shows i love how
incredibly character-focused they were,
and I felt born-again,
tried splitting the difference more,
which being like very plot
and direct-heavy while-being character,
and this still seems to favor
momentum of plot overall, I would say,
more than character.
Not that's the character.
Character's always there,
but particularly, like, even with Matt Murdoch,
I feel like he,
when I look at the Daredevil show
of Netflix era,
it was very character-driven
and character-syology-based.
And even with these two episodes,
I can't really say that it's heavy on that with Matt Murdoch.
They're juggling a lot more and perhaps we'll actually get more of that payoff.
But I find that they're segueing more into this realm.
So the reason I'm speaking about Wilson Bethel specifically is because that seemed to be something that was kind of canned.
And he was just a bad guy.
And now he's going back to being a three-dimensional character where the audience can have a conflict about who he is.
And that to me gives me more of a reassurance of the direction of where this show is going.
Whilst they still are built, like I love how before we got the fight scene at the end,
it was the intercutting between Vanessa's nightmare and the comforting in bed
with Matt Murdoch and Karen Page in bed and the comforting there showing like,
they're not so different to you and I, you know, that element.
I really enjoyed it.
And I'll also say that there's not a lot of action yet when there's action.
it's rewarding because it's emotionally driven.
It's not solely, we need a fucking action scene in here.
We need violence in here.
They use it to be telling of the moment.
So when you get this action scene at the end,
it might not be the craziest choreogicry.
It's really awesome to witness.
It's still like rewarding right when,
you know it's rewarding when Matt just shows up
in the Daredevil suit to fight
because you don't need to get some actions going
before that happens.
It's rewarding because,
It's like, damn, we're emotionally invested in what's happening.
We don't want to see this happen to Josie.
So, yeah, I think this is shaped enough to be something great.
Topical.
I don't know what the commentators behind the scenes are going to be like.
Because last season, they were like,
we didn't have any intention of being allegorical to real world politics.
And then you do this, and are you still saying that same thing?
Yeah.
It seems very topical to what's going on right now.
I got to say, could it be another coincidence?
I don't think so
because it does
simultaneously feel topical to today
yet not like
I'll end it with this
you know how the
most of us have seen
I don't know have you seen the boys
Andrew? Up to season two
okay that's actually a good point
then because
boys season one and two
we're always
political commentary and then around
season three they were like
fuck subtlety
we're just going to be
So direct and on the nose
And we need it to be clear
What they're doing. And this right here
Feels like closer to that boy
Season 1-2 territory
Where it still feels very natural
To the plot and the characters and everything
They set up with season one
To the point where you can be like,
It's just coincidence it lines up with what's going on today.
It doesn't feel as directly on the nose, you know?
So that's just my take.
I think it's doing a really good job.
And yeah, all the supporting characters and stuff.
I wholeheartedly agree.
Coy.
So I'm really glad they're going into production of season three right now
because I really think this is something Marvel needs more of.
Right now in the comic books,
Marvel's doing some of its most political commentary
I've ever seen them to with the Ultimates
and with Captain America in particular.
The Ultimates is the Ultimate Avengers,
and there is an ultimate universe that is ending
right about now in the comic books.
and the Avengers group is labeled as like domestic terrorists
by the government and by people that perceive the norm as status quo
as what we deserve.
So I am really enjoying the fact that the publisher Marvel
is willing to make a bold swing with Ironman, Captain America,
and these billion-dollar IPs and have them rebel.
And I think it's really beautiful that Disney Plus,
is willing to make a show where the devil of hell's kitchen is at this point fighting cops.
I think it's really important that we have media that speaks out against atrocities.
And I think comic books are, I say it a lot, but I mean it every time.
Comic books are for the proletariat.
They are a thing that has not kept up with inflation as far as cost.
They are very expensive compared to when I started buying them, but they are still,
something that tells a message that you bring in your home that is pieces of paper written by one person,
drawn by one person, and very few moving parts.
It is usually a few souls exposed of people getting their truth out and telling important messages and morals.
The reason I love comics is it's such a beautiful Trojan horse of morality,
but it has gotten lost in the age of everything being comic book.
When you suddenly have five properties a year and then more than you become a product.
you become an IP.
You become something
that gets commodified
and sullied.
As soon as it is
a character that's dressed
up at Disneyland,
you've got these characters
that can't do certain things.
To this day,
Spider-Man,
whenever he's holding something,
has to acknowledge
it's not beer.
There are scenes of Spider-Man
in a bar
and they have to make
an loud judgment
of like,
this is not all!
Because the character's so big.
Daredevil is a huge character.
The Avengers are huge characters.
Right now in the comic books,
the Avengers are fighting fascism.
And right now on my TV,
Daredevil is battle.
corrupt cops.
I'm very excited that Disney acquiring these characters didn't ruin the point of them.
This is a very necessary show.
If it convinces five people that, hey, maybe I should take a look at what I'm doing with
my actions.
Hey, maybe I should take a look at who I've been voting for.
Hey, maybe I shouldn't be supporting this choice.
If it's doing that through the act of making a superhero show, then that's what
heroes are for.
A little girl losing her mom in a convenience store because of a moment of humanity is something that's happening all over my country.
And it's something that isn't acceptable.
And it's something that we need bits of art to acknowledge as not acceptable.
We need to have jump cuts between a mom getting pulled out of a bodega with her community around her screaming and then intercutting to the calm piece of rich people in their boardrooms that are out.
actually in power and controlling the city.
We need to cut between people actually dealing with ramifications of actions of people
that are voting and causing harm.
And the only way that the average person is going to watch something that is telling
these horrors is if we put it in a very shiny package.
So I'd like to thank this shiny package for being awesome and for not pulling punches and for
having moments like Daredevil smiling that I was like, how's that going to work in the narrative?
And then when it's here and you feel every bit of weight of every one of those,
punches because you're so emotionally invested and you're so enraged because whether you are mad at me
typing in the comments right now or not whether you're someone that completely stands against me
politically there is a part of you that felt the rage of daredevil at those cops that have done
horrible things and that's who we need to convince to look at the world differently so thank you
daredevil i will say uh really quick just to that point though what i hope this show does do
is illustrate
though
when the mom
forgive me
I'm forgetting what the mom's name is
but when she touches the cop
and then the cop hesitates
and goes
that's assault
now we've seen footage
there's a one video
I can't get out of my head
of a mom
or a wife
who was separated
from her husband
and she like
had a moment
where she touched
an ice officer
just like another pleading case
it wasn't like a grab
it was like a touching case
and then he beat the shit
out of her
in front of a group
people in a hallway.
And of course, there's people, though, that go, but she assaulted an officer, you know,
there's people who will adopt this freaking zealot way of American law and take it to an extreme.
And I hope this show takes the opportunity to show those people as well.
Because we're only presenting really one side right now.
I'm not saying they should make a case for that side.
I think it's important to demonstrate that other opinion, though, that other side, and then go against that.
Otherwise, I feel like, I feel like that's when the effect can actually take place.
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
So that's just a hope.
It's not a criticism of the show at all.
It's something I hope they show.
And the last thing I wanted to say, I forgot.
The symbolism in the show, obviously, Daredevil Netflix is really good about using color symbolism,
and I really like that they're using the DD as symbolism and starting to plant that as juxtaposed to the Puttersher symbolism that's on the AVTF.
but I also really like that using the rose symbolism from the comic books because often Kingpin had a rose and that was something that tied to his iconography.
We're getting like a third symbol starting, especially at this episode, to show like Kingpin's rose, I think is going to be another element of power and control and imagery.
Yeah, the movie really used the rose.
Yeah, I think it's like a huge part of him.
I'd love to see like the staff with the diamond on the top.
There was like a moment in here where I thought that I was like, this could bring in that little.
But yeah, I'm really happy.
Aaron?
See you guys.
no um yeah i agree with everything uh everybody
everybody said um it's
oh yeah it's it's really it's really every single thing i've
put a billet point of everything there's a lot of things
endorsed endorse we all said let me know what i thought
every single thing everybody said for the for every review both this season and last
season the rolydex is rolling for even the ones that conflict with each other i agree
um um yeah
I think the fact that this show is extremely topical and it's showcasing how messed up things are in our world, whether that was intentional or not.
You know, we, it's very frustrating and very anger-inducing and wrong, you know, the mom in the show did not deserve what the fuck just happened.
You know, justice for the woman who just, you were just talking about Alex Peretti, freaking Renee Good.
you know
Trayvon Martin
fucking Briana Taylor
George Floyd
and you know
everyone else who's not been mentioned
in this moment
but yeah
fuck all that
anyway
the show itself
was really strong
this episode really
grabbed me
because it was doing
the things I really love
about Daredevil
in that it's not
purely about Matt himself
it's about the entire cast
it's about New York
it's about the supporting characters
that the show is following
It's about Fisk in his regime, but it's also about Vanessa.
And to a degree it's about Buck.
To agree, it's about Daniel.
It's about Beebe.
It's about Kirsten.
And I'm glad that this show is finally showcasing that everybody who's in this show is here for a reason.
Everybody in this show has a role to play, a part to play.
Karen, I like that there's a distinction between this season and the last season.
One kind of, it felt like a hodgepaws of, you know, two visions.
But there was also a distinction between what we saw in the last iteration of Daredevil.
That was on Netflix.
Because I feel like, and you can agree, disagree with me if you feel or add more nuance of this.
But I feel like the original Daredevil show was largely a law and crime drama, whereas this is feeling like a political and crime thriller.
And I feel like the stakes of what's happening right now with them being freedom fighters, being of,
resistance movement while
corrupt things are happening in the
political side of things with Fisk
are yeah things that we've not seen in the comic
book genre up to this point and
it's showing
that
even though times are dark
good is still necessary
good is still something that
is important and
the fact that this show is able to
showcase
that in a way that feels very satisfying and emotionally engaging is yeah really um really uh great
it's really great i'm really digging the stuff that we're doing with um with venezsa and the
fact that she's getting her own sort of subplot she's more so an accessory to fisk in the og show
and i like that she's having her own feelings about her relationship with point dexter i like that
we are bringing the complexity back to
bullseye as you said like the fact that we're actually calling him bullseye
in the show we mentioned it quickly with
Frank in the last season but now people are continuing to
call him that and we are in a world where this is something that's
prevalent I would like to see more vigilant to show up
but we are starting to see that this is a time where
good people standing up is more essential than ever
like we're seeing that with
Angela and what she witnessed
with her with her auntie
and then what she was
there for for her uncle getting murdered
and this is the
the pot that is cooking
for an overflow of people
rising up and standing up
and yeah
I thoroughly enjoy what's happening
I'm sad we don't have to stop here
I wish we could
you know just been to show like the OG Netflix show
but this is a week of release
They're drip feeding us, you know, because my, the immediacy move wants it right now.
But for the long-form conversation, the adult side of me, the patience wants to marinate in this and let it, let it breathe.
But yeah, everything here is great.
I think we're in for a fantastic season with a clear vision from start to finish.
And the fact that they're already filming season three is great.
It just speaks to the fact that they knew exactly what they were doing from the moment they took over, realized season two was their chance for redemption to have a complete story with a cast that is unified in its vision.
And yeah, I'm excited for what's to come and who's to come.
Yeah.
Last thing I'll say is I like that this season two, they're putting an emphasis on Karen because usually she's the brains of the operation, right, whenever she's on.
screen.
Yeah.
So I like how they're
given her brute force
too and you can
actually feel it too
in her,
in her scenes.
Like,
and have,
uh,
put that stamp at the end
of the episode where she actually put the,
uh,
put that,
uh,
that vigilante cop in the seat,
uh,
for Matt to come to.
Like,
that was pretty empowering and I really like that for Karen.
It also,
even though we're always worried about Karen and Matt always has to
worry about her and puts her more in a vulnerable spot just to have to worry
about her in general,
like knowing that she can defend herself,
I think is Matt a little bit of levity to relax.
in a slight bit, but I like that they're giving her, you know, some more to do besides just be the brain.
So also, too, I really, one of my favorite scenes in this episode was where Buck was suggesting,
why don't you just tell New York that Matt Murdoch is Daredevil and they're one in the same.
And I love, you know, just going to show just how quick on his feet that Wilson Fiske always is.
That was such a fascinating twist of the knife type of plan. I'm like, no, I'll just say that
he's missing and that we're looking for him.
We'll paint him out as the good guy.
It's such a brilliant plan.
I love that.
That's like why Wilson Fiske is such one of those fascinating villains because he knows how to flip on a dime and put people and back them into a corner.
Yeah.
Also, yeah, how smart the writers are to take into consideration questions that we may be asking, like the fact that.
Yeah, right.
Yeah, but I would, can I say something?
Yes.
Only because you raised your hand.
It's,
I got so caught up
and if what I was doing was funny or not
that I don't even know what I was going to say, Aaron.
Boy, do you have more thoughts?
I do. Last thoughts for me,
kind of paralleling Andrews,
I love that the way we navigate Kingpin
as a force is beyond just physical force,
but it's his intelligence
and turning the entire city against Matt
in a different way is really clever.
and that's the power of Kingpin.
But I also really like that this episode,
it does so many things to set up things.
Like you can feel the domino's stacking,
but it doesn't feel like you're underwhelmed.
Like it's really impressive tension building
that you can plant seeds and be like,
ooh, that's gonna pay off later.
And like, I love that my hackles are raised the whole episode.
But when the episode ends, I'm like,
okay, that was a good meal.
I don't feel still hungry.
I don't feel over full.
Like, I think the pacing of the season's a lot better.
and that ties into these guys getting to do their own vision.
And this episode in particular made me think of the first season
and how I felt like, okay, they had to do this.
This had to get plugged in there.
Okay, this is why they did this.
But I was constantly aware of the need to fix versus the flow.
And the last season, now that we have this season,
I'm definitely aware, I think they wanted to tell a lot of these stories fuller.
Like the last season we had the co-opting of the Punisher symbol.
the last season we had white tiger being killed and the way that affects the community that daredevil is so much a part of new york and punisher is so much uh like maybe the most co-opted symbol for the opposite of what he represents i can't think of a single other symbol in modern pop culture that is as misused so the fact that those things were in the first season but they didn't get to like you know they had to fix and cahole and make it work this is to me to me
me a lot clear slow burn of what the AVTF is.
This is still having a punisher on that and how impactful it is.
It just, it feels really nice to see the culmination of what they were able to plant in the first season, but now can do even more with it.
But it's paced so well that it doesn't even feel like a slow burn.
No, I'm just thinking about like, oh, that feels nice.
Yeah, exactly.
Yeah.
Did you remember, Greg?
I tried to.
He's back.
He's back.
Mr. Alba?
I can do it.
Thanks, guys.
it's what I wanted to see
it's
you got it
thank you
they're
they're
I think they
they've had to do a lot of rebuilding
on on Kingpin
in this season
and I
I did not
really feel like they
completely landed it
by the time season one ended
it still felt like
we're getting there
we're after Hawkeye
and Echo we're still
getting there.
And the biggest tell to me that we're on the right path to having him be very scary again
is specifically the scene with Sheila and Daniel.
Because in last season, even when he's like going off on his staff, there's that one scene where he's like ripping them apart.
That's the scene where Daniel comes up to him in.
He's like, I'm the one to mess this up.
Even then, I don't fee, I didn't fear for anyone who was, if you're on Fisk's side, I
felt like you were fine in last season.
Even if he's like mad at you, you're probably fine.
Like he was obviously very like annoyed with Sheila constantly in last season.
And I never felt like Sheila was really in nature.
This provided that where, oh, even if you're on his side, even if you're in his inner circle,
you still have a shot at him snapping and killing you.
And that is a big part of the reason to fear.
disc, you know, even when he's like with his fucking trainer.
And he, like, knocks him out into the glass and it's like blood shards everywhere.
It doesn't matter if you're close.
This is what happens when a man who's this drunk with power.
So, yeah, because he had to, like, have control last season and not and be like, I'm not that guy anymore.
Now he's able to, he's becoming the kingpin.
Yeah, both kingpin, both Fiske and Matt have fully embraced their identities again, which has brought us back to the status quo.
And yeah, he is scary.
And I am scared of Fisk once more.
And I am excited that I'm scared of Fisk.
Yeah, guys.
So I think that'll be it for us today.
We'll be back with episode three of season two.
Find out what that agent or that the task force guy has to say.
Hopefully get some more info and see Jessica Jones soon.
All right.
We'll see you later.
Let's go save the city.
Adios.
