Mal, the daughter of Maleficent, she struggles with the pressure of being a princess in Auradon. Feeling overwhelmed, she returns to the Isle of the Lost, where she once lived, and discovers that Uma, the daughter of Ursula (From The Little Mermaid), has taken her place as the self-proclaimed queen of the run-down town. Uma, still resentful over not being selected by Ben to go to Auradon Prep with the other Villain Kids (VK), stirs her pirate gang, including Captain Hook's son Harry and Gaston's son Gil, to break the barrier between the Isle of the Lost and Auradon and unleash all the villains imprisoned on the Isle, once and for all. Mal and her friends must then return to the Isle to convince Mal to come back to Auradon and stop Uma's plan. Starting point is 00:01:07 that was a good evil laugh the bassi to say and a dumb thing about her oh how you gonna kiss the girl That's one of my favorite songs. I'll say it again. If you're listening to us an Apple or Spotify,
Starting point is 00:01:32 give us a five-star writing, even though I already said it. But Gregor was like, we're still watching the movie. There was a post-credit scene. There was. He was absolutely right, but like I still would love
Starting point is 00:01:42 to throw him under the bus for any and everything. It's called chemistry, people. We have crackers in our mouth. I think that I liked this one a lot more. than the first one. Oh, really? I do because I know that it still felt a little bit where we were like, oh, the first one took about 20 minutes to warm up. This one seemed like it took five
Starting point is 00:02:05 minutes less to warm up because once we got into that Uma song, which is really close to the top, that was a phenomenal song. The choreography kept going and going and going. It was a great way to introduce us to her. And I also thought that her like side kick Harry is a really good actor and very, very entertaining. Like, I loved his charisma. I really, really liked it. I think him and her were a great addition to this cast.
Starting point is 00:02:35 And, you know, the one character that I thought, like, why is he still in this? It's just the blonde guy who was making 3D graphics. Oh, the Chad guy. Even though I love him. I think he's really funny and a great character. But I'm like, it's funny. They only gave him the little, the smallest thing,
Starting point is 00:02:50 which is like, you're just going to be a comedic relief at times. you're going to be making 3D printing things and hoping that your girlfriend calls, which I loved. I really like him. I think he's really funny. I mean, the moral of this story is like looking deep down and thinking you're not enough for someone or for something or a big dream or thinking you don't belong in this place. We have all felt that way, I'm sure, about something or another. And then realizing that you kind of have to look deeper and go like, if that's what you want in life, I think you should need to not think like, oh, I don't belong here.
Starting point is 00:03:27 I think it's just like put yourself in, like, follow your heart and put yourself there and just see how it turns out because that's what happened with them. And it turned out okay. But I understood where she was, where she was coming from. Or have you not felt accepted? I think in a lot of things. In acting, like, do I belong on this big set? should I be second-guessing myself? Do I actually belong in Los Angeles following the stream?
Starting point is 00:03:58 What should I actually be doing? That comes up a lot. And other times I think, yeah, I'm exactly where I meant to be. And then there's other times where I'm crying in my room and I need to call friends. And I'm like, this sucks and I don't like it. That's the way the cookie crumbles out here, kids. It's not all puppies and rainbows, you know? Sounds like you're really sad.
Starting point is 00:04:26 Mm-hmm. I'm all effed up in the head, kids. Get with the program. That's what makes me a good actor, you see. Pain and suffering. Yeah, makes me good at comedy and also drama. So, you're welcome. Thanks, childhood past.
Starting point is 00:04:51 I feel you. I've definitely sabotaged friendships, relationships, a lot. And it's not until late, like in a movie, you go, I'm not good. I felt like I wasn't good enough. And I had to accept myself in life. It lasts a very long time. And it might not be until way later we're like, oh, it's because I didn't have a high opinion of myself and that this was really me sabotaging because I felt.
Starting point is 00:05:21 I wasn't good enough, so I was breaking this. And I've done it with, you could do that with more than just relationships. You could do a career pursuits, you can do that. And pretty much anything, honestly, is that one feeling. And learning to be okay with saying that, you know, with like, even if it's something as simple, it sounds more simplistic is like a studying self-confidence. has been a big part of my life because confidence has not come naturally
Starting point is 00:05:55 to me. It does not. No, it doesn't come naturally to me. What he's pumping at the gym is when it comes. I'm like, you're freaking confident, baby. It is, it is, there's two kinds of self, lack of self-confidence that I, you know, there's the obvious one where you're going,
Starting point is 00:06:14 oh, I'm not good enough, or you play kind of, you can be kind of a little bit of victim mentality. You're a bit of a sourpust, you're a bit of an ehor. know. And then there's the other kind of lack of self-confidence that I could actually find a little bit more threatening, which is when you're just not willing to admit you're not confident in this area. And instead it comes out because your ego doesn't allow you to admit that. So instead you
Starting point is 00:06:35 start acting out in different ways or you get defensive or you become chauvinistic, all these like terrible qualities that will come out all because you're not willing to admit. I'm actually not confident in this area. Yeah. And you overcompensate. Yeah. You do other things. And I I think this movie kind of demonstrated that with Mal in a lot of ways, like both sides. And I think it's a really good message to convey. And I think it's natural, too, for, because at first I wasn't sure how I was really jiving with it when she goes to, because it was like, okay, we go through this whole journey of you being, learning to fit in in Alderan and then you, and then 20 minutes in the next movie, you're suddenly going back because you're like, I'm not good enough. I was like, I don't know if I really like this idea. Right.
Starting point is 00:07:23 And I really think the last 30 minutes of this movie, like from beginning to end, I thought the choreography of the dances were upped. I feel like I'm going to remember these songs more than I'll remember the songs in the first. Like, I love the songs in the dance in the first one. Yeah. But this felt more musically inclined than the last movie as well. It's a little bit more, it's a lot more serious to me.
Starting point is 00:07:45 Like the last one I think is like way funnier. I think Descendants one, I remember like we were cracking. up throughout and and i think this one is nowhere near as funny nor does it set out to be as funny right and and uh i think the again like the performance is really good i think they upped you guys were telling us in the comments the last one um i'm not just saying this because we learned this i was thinking it as we was watching it is like i think carlos is a much better character here than he was in the last one like he feels more sincere in his performance i feel like he evolved not just as a dancer but also as an actor in this movie but you guys were telling us that
Starting point is 00:08:24 cameron boy passed away and we looked it up that it died from seizures epilepsy epilepsy yeah which is horrible and he's like passed away at 20 and we did that is tragic really not just saying that because we learned it to be like oh we learned this we want to highlight his performance more he gets more solo screen time i think they actually take away some of j screen time i think they actually take away some of jay screen time and give it more to Carlos here. And I think that comparing his performance, the last one, Carlos, comes across a lot more grounded and sincereness performance. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:59 I think that's what a lot of people were going for here. And I think of the last 30 minutes, like the twist, the excitement, the messages, what they were setting up and emotionally too. Like once they got back to Alderon, I actually felt like it kind of re-contextualized a lot of what I witnessed in the first hour and suddenly made that first hour a lot better. because of what this last hour was providing. I was like, oh, this is actually making that even more enjoyable for me now in terms of plot and story. Because I wasn't as into it as I was the last movie, but then the last, I would say, like, 30 to 40 minutes, suddenly made that a lot better only because I started really loving that last 30 to 40.
Starting point is 00:09:38 That twist with Uma. Yeah, yeah. I mean, it was right when they got back to Alderon and they had like that sit down conversation. Yeah, that was a good convo. Yeah. I agree with that. The four of them conversing. and it just took me a while to adjust
Starting point is 00:09:49 to a little bit more the different tone that they were working on in this film. Yeah. Because, yeah, my biggest thing was I forget her name.
Starting point is 00:10:03 Uma. I can't forget it. I didn't find Uma like threatening or anything like that when she was definitely the villain of the movie. It's not like I watched like the first
Starting point is 00:10:12 and I'm like, well, this isn't scary. Like that's not the point. The point is like, is it threatening enough to provide a little bit of more excitement or engagement.
Starting point is 00:10:20 Yeah, edge of your seat kind of vibe. Yeah, and I think she's really, I thought, I thought she's a really good performer. Loved her song. Oh, my God, what a great song. So good. And I love what they did with her in the last 20 minutes of this movie.
Starting point is 00:10:32 But yeah, I think when we kept cutting back, it started feeling, it kind of made where they come from feel even smaller. What's it called her they come from? I'm forgetting the aisle. Yeah, the aisle. It's making the aisle feel even smaller because we never saw any of this, but it keeps coming back to this one section. right um which i guess is through that tunnel which makes sense why it would feel smaller but yeah but like it didn't feel uh it didn't feel like big like the scope felt yeah i agree with you yeah but um i i totally see why people really love this one and i really liked it a lot i still would probably prefer me personally i i probably prefer the first one but i still really like this one a lot and i was surprised by the differences that this movie actually provided
Starting point is 00:11:17 it's more mature. Way more mature. Like I was saying when we were watching it, I was like this dialogue, this script is more adult-like, a little less kid-like, more serious. I think the writing was a lot better. It wasn't as like surface level. Like here's a joke, here's a thing. It seems like it was written maybe more for teenagers. This seemed more, it's still written for teens, but the dialogue seemed like adults could like be like, that's fairly good writing a little bit better than the first one, not as, like, corny in sections. And maybe that's why I liked it more. It just felt like a lot more grounded and realistic.
Starting point is 00:11:55 And I thought that the dialogue was written a lot better and not as surface level or as corny. And I think we really saw that in the sit-down conversation when they were discussing. I thought it was a more grown-up type of comedic tone to take when he went, well, that didn't work. That's funny when he's like, they say three things. And the kids like, see, I knew it wouldn't work. this girl talk thing and us joining in. That actually made me laugh. Versus like some of the other corny jokes that maybe were in the first one that I was like,
Starting point is 00:12:25 yeah, that's funny. But there's something about this film that, I don't know, it hit me a little bit more. The last one was hilarious. The last one was very, very funny. I get it. But I don't know. I think this one maybe moved along more, maybe because the songs were really, really great. And we started out with a bang with Uma's song, which I really loved.
Starting point is 00:12:45 feel there's more like there's more songs in this one. Yeah, and we also, like, knew a little bit from the top there was going to be some tension because they're like, isn't evil good? In that very top song, we're like, who's going to go back to the eyehole? Are they going to all be evil again? We were already in some drama, and I like that. I thought the casting was all really, really good. I thought it was the scene with Jane and Carlos is super sweet and very, just really cute. I loved it.
Starting point is 00:13:14 exactly like that was great right the last yeah and then seeing umma come up i thought was great she looked great as as an octopus like i think she looked awesome i like that effect i like the dragon effect a lot more than some of the effects we saw in the first one uh movie just like grew up a little bit and i i liked it more i felt like mal like most of the actors primarily I just felt like they didn't really give much to Jay this time around athletic guy Jay but I feel like what they did with Mal
Starting point is 00:13:48 Evie and Ben I think they really even the performers I felt like the performers had less Disney-fied acting and it felt just way more I remember saying that about Mal in the last one
Starting point is 00:14:00 but I think even especially for Evie and Carlos like they just really made them sound so they were so much more human and less Disney acting than before. And I think the chemistry, I think the chemistry all around
Starting point is 00:14:14 is really great with everyone too. I mean, just carrying that over from the last film. Yeah. But I think like, yeah, the dance, the main thing that you want that has to really shine too is like the dance numbers,
Starting point is 00:14:25 the music numbers. And I think they really upped it from before. And they gave stuff that I think is going to be very, very memorable. So yeah, I still had, I saw a really good time with this one
Starting point is 00:14:33 and I'm excited for part three. Yeah, me too. I feel like with the choreography and the songs in this one is going to be like hard to top because they did such a phenomenal job. Some of those songs kept going and going and going in the fight choreography that I'm like, wow, this is longer than we would see in like a bigger budget movie.
Starting point is 00:14:51 True, yeah. They were really committed to that. I agree. In multiple songs, too. I felt like they did craft a movie around wanting to get to the musical numbers and certain sequences in a really smart way. Mm-hmm. And it showed.
Starting point is 00:15:05 And yeah. And I thought this made Ben look. I think I like what they did with Ben a lot. I think they made him an even, like I liked the actor a lot in the last movie, but Ben the character, I like a hell of a lot in this one. Me too, way more. He really proved himself as like a growing leader. I was really drawn to that.
Starting point is 00:15:22 Yeah, because in the first one, they're like, he's a good king and a good kid. And I'm like, now he's actually a good king and he's showing it. And I think for a sequel that, because I mean, if I recall, it's the reality is Sarah and I watch it like a month ago. Yeah, it's been a while. And then we uploaded it. And I was like, oh, shit, we have to watch the rest. So we're, we're, we didn't, we haven't seen the movie in like a month.
Starting point is 00:15:46 The, the, if I recall, the way the movie did end. Yeah, they are accepted, but they still have to sort of conform part of their imagery in a lot of ways. Yeah. To be a little bit more outer on, um, um, society. Yeah. And I think the message of like, no, they should be. It's okay for where they came from, guys, and we should, that there's good to accept from that because the end of the day they wouldn't be who they are if they weren't from there. Right.
Starting point is 00:16:15 And I like, I also liken the plotting how they go to get Mal to bring her out of there, but it doesn't become like, screw the aisle, you know, they have to, like, Jay goes back and realizes some great things about his roots. That's why he wants Lonnie to be part of the team. Ben learns a lot, and has his eyes open. Evie's like, oh, this little girl. and the inclusion of other things about being, just accepting. And I thought that was smart because there wasn't like too knocked over the head when they were there. When they do come back, it does fit and it's organic. So I think there is a more, the mature writing and storytelling is really, I think, stronger in this one for sure.
Starting point is 00:16:54 Yeah, they really hug the purpose of her foundation when she switches, you know, out of the dragon and she's in her purple dress with their purple hair. Mal is who she was from the aisle, which gives all of them. and I think that gave the perfect transition to Evie going, I have someone from the aisle. And I hope that, you know, obviously I believe that Dizzy will come in being exactly Dizzy doing, and what I hope is that in Descendants 3, all of these like a blonde people or people of, I wanted to say Armageddon, people of Aeron are going to Dizzy and getting there,
Starting point is 00:17:31 like we're going to see all this like pink and purple hair and they're going to be wearing Dizzy's jewels and it's going to be. more aisle-like, but also a mix of Oridon. And I love that because it's saying you can be exactly who are, you don't have to confine to the Oradon like look or type or whatever, which it was in the first one. We felt that way that she would have to be very princessy and you have to confine to this type of life. And now we're seeing that more of the VKs are having an influence, but not in a bad way,
Starting point is 00:18:01 in a good way, in a sense of style, and independence and be who you are, but you can still be fit in in this place with being exactly who you are and come as you are type thing, which I like.
