Starting point is 00:01:21 Burlington, Marks, Rebaughes, wow. Are you ready to watch Descendants? Have you found it yet? No, I've been searching for it. I'm sorry. This entire time. I believe in you. We've got 11 minutes, Tara.
Starting point is 00:01:40 We're going to make this. We're going to be so qualitative in this time. You're listening on Apple or Spotify. You better rate us high, baby. We just got done watching Disney's Descendants. I enjoyed it. There's a lot of Easter eggs in this. I like it.
Starting point is 00:01:53 A lot of Disney Easterings. And I've got a Disneyland pass, annual pass holder right here. I enjoyed it. I really did. In the beginning, it was a little slow. But then it started to pick up once you said when they got with the other character. When it wasn't just them for and the parents and when they started meeting all of the other kids, that's when the juice really started to get started. But every single song in this, bingo, baby, loved it.
Starting point is 00:02:19 Yeah, man. That's probably the best way to summarize it because we said we're going to do four in the intro, all four. Yeah. And then in the first like 20-ish minutes, I was like, maybe we should reshoot the intro. Right. Because I'm not sure this is the movie for us. I agree. Like, it was, in the first 20 minutes, I was not jiving with the film.
Starting point is 00:02:40 And like, the songs were always good when they were popping in, but I was like, do we have to wait for a song every time to enjoy this movie? Because I, it wasn't, it was like, it wasn't hitting it. It was rough. It was rough. I agree. And then when they, it was like when act two really kicked in. So act one was rough. But when act two really kicked in, it was around the time when the tourney thing happened.
Starting point is 00:03:03 Yes. With the first time with the tourney, then you started seeing them hang out with all the other kids. Yeah. Where suddenly I was like falling in love with the movie. And I found myself really enjoyed. From that point on, the movie never lost me. I was hooked. I was enjoying it.
Starting point is 00:03:19 It became so freaking funny. I was really buying into the stakes and the wonder of it and every character became very likable where at first I was like, I don't really feel like anyone really has any chemistry. And then suddenly everyone started having chemistry. Right. I thought everything just started clicking so strong
Starting point is 00:03:38 right at Act 2 when the movie really found its groove. And the love story I felt for, I really, I found myself really, really enjoying this movie a lot. I loved it quite a bit, actually. And I will still. I still hate Chad. Chad get out of you. I know. What a jerk.
Starting point is 00:03:54 He's so, he's so mean. Oh, I hated him. And we all were like on his side, like under the bleachers until he's like, do all my homework. Yeah. And then he got worse even after that. And he kept getting worse. Like he, Chad, I mean, he's a Chad. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:04:08 Chads are Chad's or Chad's. Chads are bad. Chads are bad. It's not, it's no, it's no bueno. I did not like him. But, um, I loved, uh, all of the actors in this. I believed all of them. And I really love the lead that I was, I think we both were surprised of like, why don't we know her?
Starting point is 00:04:25 She's very, very, very good. Yeah. She's great. I understand why she was cast as a lead. So is the lead prince. But everyone in this was really great. But obviously the leads are in those, in that position for a reason. And they really showed off their skills.
Starting point is 00:04:40 And the fact that they could both sing is awesome. I mean, everyone in this even Doug at the end, he starts dancing and he's like pretty good. Yeah. And I'm like, oh, yeah. You know, all of these. kids in this are very, very talented. They're obviously. They're all so much older now.
Starting point is 00:04:55 They are. They are. Oh, his name is Boo Boo. Look at him now. Oh, yeah, you're right. She looks like she's like 20. I know. 25 maybe.
Starting point is 00:05:04 Oh, my God. Oh, my gosh. She looks so different now. She looks way different. Oh, my God. When was this movie made? I mean, it came out in 2015, so maybe it was made in like 2013. Okay.
Starting point is 00:05:16 Yeah. So she's like. is she like 20 plus? I mean, she's probably 28 now. Yeah. 27. Wait, let me do math. 2006, 2016.
Starting point is 00:05:34 What year are we in? We're in 2024. Yeah, she'd be, so she's almost, she's 28. She's 28. Oh my gosh. Don't rely on us to do math. Rely on us to watch stuff. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:46 She looks so different. She's beautiful. She's gorgeous. like, guys, if you went on to IMDB and you looked at Dove Cameron, her headshot is like, like, it's like, what is happening there? Oh, yes, he's the kid. He's in the movie Grownups, the Carlos guy. He plays Adam Sandler's kid.
Starting point is 00:06:05 Okay. Boo Boo, Stewart. He's in the Twilight movies. That's what. And he's Warpath in X. Yes. That's right. He was, he's great.
Starting point is 00:06:13 And what about the other girl? Oh, we're looking up the prince. He was in Love You Like That. I don't know what any of these are. I don't know what that is. I never seen it. Okay. So. And what about?
Starting point is 00:06:24 Sophia Carson? Yeah. Yeah. Where do we know her? What is she in? All about Sophia Carson. Descendants isn't. A bunch of Descentus.
Starting point is 00:06:33 The Muppets may am. I have never seen any of this. We don't know. Pretty little liars. I never watched that show. But did you? Maybe that's why. No.
Starting point is 00:06:44 No. Me neither. Me neither. I heard it was good, but I remember watch it. Okay. well, this was really enjoyable. The songs were great. I love the dancing. Everyone that they cast, obviously, he's very, very talented. The script could have used some work, obviously, in the beginning where I was like, why are they taking their time at this house? And it did seem a little bit like improv where I felt like all of those actors, all of the evil parents are all very well-versed actors who've been working for a long time. So I wouldn't put it past them to be like, here's an outline. You guys do what you want. Just be like evil. You know what I mean? And them going like, okay, we'll just make some choices and him like just shooting them
Starting point is 00:07:24 because it didn't feel like it had, I don't know, it didn't feel very cohesive in the beginning. But then once we got moving with that choreography of them dancing and moving through the world and once we got them in the school and meeting people, then I felt like we were really on top of maybe a storyboard. Like I felt like the storyboard started then. And before it was just like, well, just let them do their thing. Which is still cool because I love all those actors. Kathy, Nijimi, however you say her name. Who is that?
Starting point is 00:07:56 I don't know her. She's from Hocus Pocus. Okay, I know that. Who's the Maleficent woman? She's amazing. Maleficent is Kristen Chenoweth, who is obviously the lead in Wicked, the musical, but she's also in a bunch of other stuff. But mostly, I know her from Wicked.
Starting point is 00:08:10 Okay. She's a 10 out of 10 Broadway star. Okay. Well, that shows here. My God. She's phenomenal. It was her and Idina Manzoe and Wicked. Got it.
Starting point is 00:08:21 They were best buddies. Anyway, yeah, this was fun. I'm excited to watch the next one. I hope that it, they've learned by watching this one that it moves just as fast as the later part of this movie that when we get into the second one, they kind of like, it moves more. Well, this movie's almost two hours and I feel like most of the runtime is really good. Yeah. I think, because act one is only like 20, 25 minutes.
Starting point is 00:08:45 Yeah, you're right. And then, but the majority of it, once it found its footing, I thought really, really became smooth because the characters are great, the lead you really root for. Yeah. And, like, she is so such a, she is so natural. I agree. And she has, everyone here has, like, I thought I was just expected, like, pure Disney channel acting. And some of them were, like, real performances here. And I thought the performances were really strong.
Starting point is 00:09:10 And I like, I like the story a lot of the, of kids born from villains. So you automatically form your identity from your upbringing, which a lot of people do. And this is about forming your own path forward. So I think it's a really, it's a really cool message. I like stories about acceptance, but it's a unique setup to telling that tale. And I do notice that they kind of like held back a little bit on showing us some of the, I guess there are some aspects that I feel like maybe might get more heightened in the sequels where you do get a little bit more of the fantastical side of the, because you got all these kids who are like, I show, I'm the daughter of Moulon.
Starting point is 00:09:47 Right. I'm the daughter of this person. But they just seem like normal kids, which I understand is the point. But I feel like they might have dialed some of that back and wrote it into the plot to justify it for production budget purposes. Right. And I'm wondering if in the sequel, they'll be able to lean more into that, the way how you saw. And have more time with it. Yeah, the way how you see a little bit more of the fantastical characters, like you mentioned Aurora and all that.
Starting point is 00:10:10 Because right now they just seem like, yeah, we're just saying you're this person. And that's it. showcasing, you know, the side of them that we know of them, like represent, represent them a little bit more. Yeah. And so I think starting off with Beast was smart because he is just a human being by the end of that story. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:29 So that was a smart call because Bell is not a fantastical character and Beast is not a fantastical character by the end of it. So that's a really good setup. And then I think when you got all these other people who are like, I'm the son of Cinderella. I'm this person. People come from these fantastical worlds And they talked about restricting magic And I feel like in the sequels
Starting point is 00:10:48 They might perhaps have a little bit more of that Because I did feel like That was something that was becoming apparent to me That was missing out on at first And but then they leaned They primarily leaned into it with the villains and the kids Which is what you should do for the first movie And I thought they made the strong choice
Starting point is 00:11:06 But the movie was really funny too I thought it was like a really funny movie I was surprised by like how funny this movie was Yeah. And it got funnier as it went on, which I appreciated. I also really like the metaphor that the kid saw the best in the villains because he came from Bell and Bell saw the best like in the beast. I really like that that trait there. And I like that, you know, they chose, they all chose good at the end, which I really enjoyed. And there, you do get to see it in the middle of the movie of like, do we really have to steal the wand? I think Boo Boo Boo is his real name. Like, and you see it. And then she, she, she, she, does him like a mean talk up she's like you're mean you're awful which is is very funny and um that happened like in midpoint which i really enjoyed but them choosing all to be good at the end was really sweet i liked it and it didn't feel melodramatic it felt like right and i liked it and i liked all the things that she had to say about each other which kind of convinced them like we don't
Starting point is 00:12:05 need to do this to make our parents happy they should just love us anyway which is kind of what Mulan's daughter when they're baking is like, oh, I just thought like villains' parents still love their kids anyway, and that none of them said a word, which was so sad, that it was like, wait, oh, you maybe never felt love like they did in a way, but not really, which is really sad. That was very eye-opening. I like that they kept Maleficent actually evil. Agreed. You know, they could have easily done what the Maleficent movies did, but they actually committed to,
Starting point is 00:12:38 she is the villain of the movie and she's not going to show a soft spot to her daughter at all. I did have a big question mark of like who the heck were all this like who was Jafar's woman that gave the kid who was the husband who were the men, not the husband,
Starting point is 00:12:53 who were the men that provided the seed to these women? Like you see a lot of like I'm the I'm the son of person and daughter of this person. I'm like, who are the parents? Who are the parents? Who's the other partner who involved in this that allowed that to happen? You know? because they all just abandoned and they're only raised by them.
Starting point is 00:13:11 It's like they have to be somewhat good if they ended up being a single parent to them in some way, right? I agree because it's like, it's like if you think about Disney, if they added in a parent and made it funny, like it was like Snow White actually slept with, I don't know, sleepy, I don't know. Then you would be like, I wonder if they're thinking like, oh God, but then it's like a Marvel universe thing where we have to keep it. like not just in the descendants world if we have to carry that throughout like Disney. So I feel like Disney is probably like, no, we're just never going to explain it.
Starting point is 00:13:44 But maybe the next one say, well, I don't know. We'll have to see. Yeah, I've heard like the second or third. It's one of those franchises where people are like, I've heard people say that the second or third one's the best. I forget which. Really? Okay, I'm excited.
Starting point is 00:13:56 Yeah, but I'm excited to continue it. Me too. Yeah, I feel like this is one of those that has so much potential to just get even more impressive. And yeah, have a lot fun. And the music is great. So make sure that you guys like this. Leave a comment.
