Let's watch us, ladies and gentlemen.
Well, ladies and gentlemen, we just watched Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2, Diary Harder.
Rick Rules.
Too diary, too hard.
Too diary too.
Well, well, well, well.
Roxy, you seem to be a lot more
remote of this time around compared to the last time.
Is it true?
I'd say so.
I feel like it really hit its stride here because there was...
I love relationship building movies.
This really had nothing to do with the plot, which you pointed out
halfway through.
I love sibling stuff.
you know my two siblings are my two best friends
and growing up they hated me
so I saw a lot of myself
in this and
it was super cringe which like I said
is my favorite genre of anything
like cringe TV is
my go to and you don't find
that many cringe movies
and I feel like this really was one
of them but family friendly cringe
but like you just can't even look
weird gross stuff with gum
and bird poop and like
just nasty stuff and
It makes you feel like your inner child or you're like, ew, cooties.
Yeah, it's like embarrassing.
Yeah, yeah.
I just think that they do such a good job.
I like the actors.
I like the music.
I love the drawings.
I'm really into this.
I know you weren't as big of a fan of Roderick in the first movie.
He grew on you a lot, huh?
A lot.
Yeah, and that's kind of like he was in his awkward years and he's still in them, but he's starting
to be a big brother.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I like this one a lot, too.
I think these are both.
It's different.
I still think I probably prefer the first one overall as a movie.
But I do like the continuation of it.
I like the way that they find natural growth ways of going about it.
Because I didn't think like a movie about Roderick or more focused on him would be that interesting.
And even though from the very beginning you're like, okay, yeah, it's going to be about them learning to be better brothers and learn to actually realize they love each other.
I think that lesson is actually really good.
And I think the first one is probably more boy folk like boys or guys can relate to that more.
And I feel like just because it's a sibling dynamic, even having the Holly Hill character who's like, yeah, your brother, I have sisters.
It's very similar.
I think just naturally a sibling dynamic can be relatable more for both or all genders of the spectrum if you have siblings.
And he's a middle child.
I'm a middle child too.
Yeah, and we got that middle child syndrome.
of. I preferred this one
to the first one, even though the first one I think
is a better movie. The first one's a
tighter script. And I am
curious about the turnaround of this because the first
one I believe was 2009.
This one's 2011. But kids
at this age grow so fast and they look the
exact same age. So I feel
like they maybe had less time to
work on this script. But
it really, to me, still
was able to shine because of the
character development and
the arcs of these characters as opposed
to the last one where we had clear goal and motivation like you said be popular yeah this one like
we're still trying to be popular but we're also trying to get the girl we're trying to navigate
middle school and we're trying to deal with our parents and we're trying to hide the fact that we've
had the party which there's like a lot of little stories it's not as focused no it's it isn't it's a
little messier a little rar a little realer and to me because of that it felt more lived in and
funny yeah i think just the cast is so good so good everyone was already great in the last one
and they seem even more natural this time around.
And it feels like a genuine continuation.
You know, sometimes a part two can just feel like a rehash.
I don't feel like they repeated like any bits.
No.
Sometimes the sequel will do that.
They'll have like things that maybe there was and we just miss them.
But I usually feel like, oh, there's a call back to the first one, call back to the first.
Other than the whole passing along the cheese touch thing at the very, very beginning in the movie, this movie is not going out of its way to be like, remember the first one?
Remember the last one?
Like they just actually continue.
You get to see Rowley's dad, him and the magician at the end.
Yeah.
I did think it was very touching because, like, sibling dynamic, sometimes they can't.
I've seen the siblings where they do get along extremely well.
They are like best friends.
But I feel like more often than not, you do find a form of contention.
Especially as kids.
Especially as kids.
And sometimes like it carries on to adulthood.
You've got to work through things.
I just shot a podcast with my brother.
And we even talked about like that a little bit.
When are you dropping it?
I don't know yet.
I got to get a couple of other ones at the bank first.
so that way I can have a consistency.
Wait, I interrupted you.
You say you talk about how sometimes you guys have that and then.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, like we've had that.
And especially in the age gap, like my brother and I are six years apart.
And then within the, I don't think he likes people know in his age, but now it's out there if you figure out my age.
So.
Well, you're 22.
I'm 22.
So he'd be 28, 28.
Yeah.
Yeah, he's a solid 28 years old.
Yeah.
Everyone wants you know that.
I helped, didn't I?
He totally helped.
And we totally made it believable.
Yeah.
I picked a realistic.
Yeah. I definitely look at 22. The brother dynamic here. I feel like I really, there's a lot where I do can click with that. You said you were having like memory flashback sort of in a way of stuff with your siblings of when you were down. And yeah, it's like it's interesting because my, my whole, my brother and my sister are my two best friends, but they have very different personalities and so do I. We're all extremely different. And one of the things about my brother is he like,
really
like how do you describe
it leans into you he's
he is brutal
like if he will beat a dead horse
if there's a joke that he thinks is funny
I can be crying my eyes out
and he will not stop my whole life
he's always been like that
but but if he sees
that somebody else is doing something evil
to me he'll kill him so it's like
it's interesting that like
when Roderick's being mean
to Greg
then he just gets meaner but when Roderick sees that Greg is down because of a girl
he's like let's go out let me help you like and it kind of reminded me of like my brother will
torture me like really torture me and then if he sees that like something happened and I'm
actually hurting he really tries to lift me up oh that's nice yeah I feel like my brother's more
there for me now if I'm if I need help um when we became an adult that moved out of the house
as kids it wasn't really like that but as an adult he's way more like that that's really
i hear you yeah yeah yeah yes sibling dynamics man they're interesting to navigate and i like that this
movie this series of movies is tackling that i'm nervous you're not gonna let me watch a third one
that's a fear of mine as long as this does all right that's a fear of my like you want people to
like comment subscribe you want people to be you gotta meet both ways we got to be interested in the audience
to show up as well
I wonder if they do, because what is the demo for this?
Like, I am kind of curious.
How did these do on Rotten Tomatoes?
Who watches the, like, is this just for kids?
I don't know.
Let me do some soul searching on.
It seems like a solid family franchise because it's not too kiddish.
Right.
Nor is it, like, go too far and above and beyond to feel like, oh, it's too adult for kids, you know?
I feel that.
I think it's in the right sweet spot.
And where does Hartland sleep consistently?
What do you think of Peyton?
I thought she did a great job.
She was really endearing.
It's interesting now to see her kind of as this like rough around the edges, girly.
And here she's just so cute, see girl next door.
I'm surprised there was no wraparound or what happened with Holly Hill.
I'm kind of surprised with that too, but we know we have another one.
Yeah, I think there's like four of them, four or five.
Yeah.
I have no idea this.
Okay, so the first diary of a wimpy kid, guess what it has on rotten tomatoes?
I'm not going to give you any hints unless you ask.
70?
54 what and the audience is 49 what how many how many ratings are there
107 for tomato meter 100,000 plus shocking I'm shocked by that too
uh did these not do well I don't know I feel like audiences nowadays maybe the time
it came out because I feel like a movie like this nowadays that's just sets out to be like
really good-hearted family entertainment fun I feel like people respond better at these now
what do you think about Roderick rules I think it's way lower I imagine it's like
35, 47 on the tomato meter and 62 on the popcorn.
Wow, it's higher on the popcorn meter.
Yeah.
How many, how many on the audience?
25,000 plus.
Okay, so like a quarter of that.
Yep, and 99,000 for, I mean, in 99 period for the reviews.
Okay.
Let's look off on the third one then until we.
You don't want me to look?
No, no, until we watch it.
But are you curious if it's good?
Yeah, but I don't want to have any pre-conceding.
All right, I won't then.
I like that.
That just interests me because I,
can't imagine watching this movie and not the both these movies and thinking they were not good
this one has way left of a story and if you're a stickler for plot and like structure of a
script that's what i thought was so fun about it it played by its own rules it was for kids it's
loose yeah i think uh i think i laughed more in the first one i don't think you laughed significantly
more than this yeah i really did yeah i think you laughed way more this is why i'm a tv girl
as you know it takes me a minute i like to live with you
with characters for a while before you can laugh with them kind of i'm like i have to suss out a situation
um so i love television because you live with people for longer and you get to know them and you know
their quirks and their habits and their wants their desires uh and i love movies and the best of
movies do do that by the end i'm really feeling but tip it a lot of times i'm laughing harder or
feeling more in a second movie than i am a first even if the first movie is better yeah and what i
liked about it too is it it keeps it there is almost a television comparison to it because
they keep it with even though you get a couple of new characters holly hill being the main
new character it's not a sequel that lives and dies on its new characters it's just about like
they in fact they actually might even make it more contained than the first one by make but it's
primarily in like the house and it's just with the two the brothers and i like that they just
focus on that you get to flesh out the parents even more the mom especially flesh her
out more yeah there are there are a lot of loose ends like as you're talking about and I'm
thinking about we don't see what ends up happening with the the gym teacher you know like
what ends up happening there with Holly we don't really see um with uh his other two friends
reg reg reg reginald Greg regal the redheader again uh I forget redgillie whatever it is
him um and
the kid that was invisible like we don't tie together the things at the end it's very loose
the whole thing is really loose yeah i just liked it's kind of ADHD brain animation too they
upped it this time yeah that's cool there's a lot more expressive animation felt more like skits
it reminds me of did you ever watch lizzie mcguire no oh okay then i can't bond with you on us i'm
sorry she's little sketches and stuff hmm well yeah i think it's a really fun franchise
me too think people who are
you gotta judge a movie based on the
audience and on the audience is
targeting and the intention and also
like uh what like
what the movie's setting out to do and
where it's I think if you judge it on like
a film of like
that caliber I think it's a film
it's good though like it's just as an actual movie
I'm surprised by how low a rating it I feel really
good right now yeah no that's what I mean
it's a feel good movie yeah
I just feel good I like
watching these yeah it's fun
I'm glad we're doing it for drama Tuesday.
Is this our drama?
Amazon said it was a drama the first one.
And so I was like, all right, perfect.
This sounds like a sweet spot.
Family drama.
I know.
Now part two is listening as a comedy.
I don't know what to do.
Elliot.
Yeah, that makes, I don't know what prompted that.
I said, Greg.
And then my finger was out.
Elliot
ET
Just follow your instincts
That's what they say
follow your instincts
I was like this is loose
I'll be loose
Yeah here you go
Don't click that out
All right yeah
No that's a great clip out
Right there
Roxy says
Be loose women
Alrighty
Be loose everyone

What did you guys think
of Robert O'Cools
You prefer more than the first one
Is the third one
A good one leave your thoughts down below
Should it have been called
Roderick Rocks
yeah actually
you hear me
I guess Roger rules kind of
because it's his rules but like
Roger rocks
I thought it was going to be about
rules
I didn't think it was like
I didn't think it was about he rules
I thought it was about like rules
that he has I think it's a
but he does have rules actually
he does establish three rules
yeah but then also
he rocks
yeah
okay get us out of here
all right bye
Thank you.
