Starting point is 00:01:29 Let's do it. If you are listening to us on Apple or Spotify, give us a five-star rating. Obviously comment and like this video. If you're watching on YouTube, we just got done watching Dune, part two. Wow. Like, all the stars. I love it so much. I know this is your second time watching, Andrew.
Starting point is 00:01:57 Yes. So how, what are things? that you picked up now? How do you feel about it now, watching it again? I mean, there were definitely a lot more. By the way, if you want cool teas like these, Reject Nation Shop.com, we got some great cheeject here. And also, Aaron's got a new chesty shirt.
Starting point is 00:02:12 It'll just pop right out of your chest, so get it. Yeah, I mean, again, there were definitely things that I remembered Anya Taylor Joy was in it. I remember how menacing Fade Ratha was. Just really quick. I just want to get the little gripes I had. I would have liked to see more. Fade Ratha, that's number one, and also the emperor.
Starting point is 00:02:32 I would have liked to get a little more nuance and, and, uh, wait, Fade Ratha. That's Austin, Elvis. I would have liked to see more of this character. Oh, yes, I was like, right. That's his name. Also, too, again, I still appreciated what we got and it could have felt a little tedious, but this is just me. I would have loved to have gotten a longer war scene at the end there.
Starting point is 00:02:52 Maybe like, even five or ten more minutes would have made me even happier just because, again, I love the scope and how epic looking again, I get that would have cost more money and it could like i just mentioned it could have felt tedious and repetitive but if you watch lord of the rings or you watch star wars like those scenes go on for a long time and i'm not saying it has to copy it or be like that but i just would have preferred just just at least a few more minutes longer yeah to feel the epicness of the battle just because it's been building up to that and again that's not to say that there was an action sequences before that there was i just would have like just a little stretched out longer um having said that amazing amazing film um i love
Starting point is 00:03:30 love, I love also, I mean, besides all the religious messaging in the film, which I thought was great, I just love the whole idea and message too with how you can build yourself back up from, you know, when you've been beaten down. And in Paul and Jessica's case, his mother, they are literally like towards the end of the first film, like, you know, the Fremen don't really believe in them. He fights James. And now they're all viewed as outsider. She becomes the Reverend Mother. People don't really believe in him. You got one, half the side that doesn't, just thinks it's a false profit. Then the other side thinks he could be the one.
Starting point is 00:04:06 And he has to prove himself. And again, the way he builds himself back up through the power of belief. And I just think it's a very inspiring story. And I just, I love the way his character, just how he just develops throughout this story, throughout both films, but especially this one as well. The action's incredible. The cinematography, the lighting, all the shots, fantastic. The action sequences that we did get.
Starting point is 00:04:30 phenomenal, just the way the chore-off, the hand-to-hand. Austin Butler's fade rotha. I mean, there is just so many different things that you could praise. But I want to hear your thoughts, what do you think? Yeah, I mean, I think it's amazing. I think that this is a story about coming into your own and also love helping you find the way. Because of how much Sendea was part of his story,
Starting point is 00:04:54 when she runs in there after he takes the water of life, when they say like he needs the desert of springs the strings spring desert tears. Spring desert tears right desert spring tears sorry yeah desert spring tears um it's like he
Starting point is 00:05:11 starting off in in the beginning it's as though he knew of the prophecy he's saying you're you're telling these people what they think they should be seeing in me and it's as though he didn't really even believe in his in himself and I think the other
Starting point is 00:05:28 side of the story is like a mother's instincts right so as we see them kind of move together we're seeing him come into his own and then also like how the love from zendaya sort of gets him there and then unfortunately at the end we had to have her there do get the water of life to then end up in the most perfect position to finally have the houses unite which was really good. kind of the plan all along, right? Was to basically team up with the Harkinans because they're such a strong base so that they weren't totally taking over Atrates. I mean, that's what his dad wanted to begin with, right?
Starting point is 00:06:11 He was like, oh, his dad, sorry, his dad wanted to team up the Frayman. But I think in him wanting to team up with the Harkinans, it took us a while to get there. But I think the biggest twist is that his mom. is the son, I mean, is the daughter of Barron. Yeah. What in the world are you like, that was a wild twist. It was a wild twist, but they did a good job of setting it up when they showed that Fade Ratha impregnated that other Benny Jesuit said our bloodline is secured.
Starting point is 00:06:44 So they did do a good job of setting up that twist nice and early in my opinion. Yes. Yes, I agree. It did not hit me. Like, when he, when they showed us that, I was like, I just was like, oh, okay, secure. hearing the bloodline, get it, I don't know why I didn't hit. So that twist, once it was revealed, was a reveal to me. I don't know if my brain just wasn't awake at that moment. I don't know, but I thought it was great. I really think that the way that they tell this story from his perspective of kind of, he doesn't
Starting point is 00:07:18 want to be a profit. I mean, the biggest line in this that I think really adds to his character is when he's walking he says they were friends before and now they're just followers because he is now the Messiah and he's trying to say it is different everything for him is different and has changed and there's a big part of this movie where he is sort of fighting against that he doesn't want that he sort of just wants freedom with the Freeman yeah and and just to have his girl and be a Fremen and like just sort of live his life the way that he sees fit and the way that he fits in. I mean, we even saw it in the very first film when he puts on the dust suit or whatever you call it.
Starting point is 00:08:06 He's the one that knew how to put it on right. The lady looks at him as like, how did you know? And he's just like instincts, instincts, right? So we know that it is in his blood. So seeing him taken sort of pulled away from the Freeman cause because he has. to be is a great, like, dramatic storyline. It's just a really great way to show us his growth and how he does come into power, which is the dividing force between him and Johnny.
Starting point is 00:08:43 And because she's like, she doesn't want him to want power. She kept reminding him, but you said you weren't in this for the power. But then he has to step into this role. This is what he was put on this earth really to be. This is the cause he has to follow. I also think, too, that shows the great contrast between him and Fade Ratha. Like, he does not crave that power and desire. No, he just has to step into it.
Starting point is 00:09:09 For sure. And he seems most free and at peace when he's just learning to be one of the Fremen. And, again, he only comes to the defense because of what, again, what has happened to him and his people. The Atrade, his father, the Duke of Atreides, and just the slaughter. and again he loves learning the ways and he's just encompassed by all that and the sense of on adventure and he loves the fremen
Starting point is 00:09:30 but then he's called like it's just it's a call of arms and a call of duty to him and like when he has the visions that everyone will be unalived if he doesn't do something or if he leads them in the wrong direction like that's when he has no choice
Starting point is 00:09:45 versus like Fade Ratha he's someone who he doesn't care who he takes out whether it's one of his own or a family member of his he just wants to rule and i like that that contrast and divide between the two characters you know what i mean you have your yang uh if you will so uh it's interesting to see that but again and it really was heartbreaking to see what happened to chani at the end but he like that's what he has to do in order to rule the houses um and it was sad to see that because we had grown as an audience at least for
Starting point is 00:10:13 me i'm i'm not going to speak for you but i'm assuming you felt the same way that i had grown so invested in that relationship and i like how they really took their time with that obviously we saw a little inclination of chemistry between, even though they only had a couple moments together on film at the end of it, but I really like how they took their time with that relationship in this. Like, when no one believed in him and was kind of making fun of him, like, she's the only one who really, like, saw something in him that he didn't even see in himself. Reject Nation, I never really consider myself a sports guy. I know so many people who are in this sports, so many people who watch this channel are into sports. My wife, into sports. Sometimes it
Starting point is 00:10:46 feels emasculating while she yells at the TV and I don't know what's going on. Why that feels emasculating? That's more to do with me than her that's for sure but anyway the peer pressure got me to find a way to find fun with sports and if you're looking for a fun and simple way to get into daily fantasy sports let me introduce you to prize picks it's america's number one daily fantasy app with over five million active members and honestly it's the only one i've ever used but for everyone who i know who has used fantasy sports thingies before says this is the easiest one they've ever used my wife included and the misses is never wrong all you do is pick more or less on player stat projections like how many yards your favorite qb that's not for quarterback by the way we'll throw or How many points a star player will score? You can pick between two and six players, and if you get them right, you win. Even I can comprehend this, and I'm not the smartest guy. And like I said, it's easy to get started and it's easy to use. A lot of emphasis on the easy.
Starting point is 00:11:35 Here's one easy example. So at the time of recording this, we just bet on Jordan Love, Jaden Reed, and Joe Burrow. Consulted with John. John knows more about sports than me. So really, this was his decision. So let's see if he take this whole operation. Or if we're filthy rich now. Great thing if one of your players ever gets injured.
Starting point is 00:11:49 Price Picks has an injury insurance policy. I could use some health insurance in my own life. So your lineup's stay in play rhymes, bars, baby. And if you miss one pick, you can still cash out thanks to their unique flex play option. It's available in most states, including California, Texas, and Georgia. You can download the Price Picks app today. Use code Rejects and get $50 instantly when you play just $5. There's a lot of fives in this shoutout.
Starting point is 00:12:15 $5, $50, $5 million members. It's like the number 23. But anyway, you don't even have to win to get that. the bonus isn't that awesome price picks run your game get into daily fantasy sports like this expert over here right i agree and i think the biggest thing when i talk about a mother's instinct is that towards the end the emperor says your dad ruled with heart and that's what the emperor didn't like and he's like you can't rule here with heart and here and the the the um
Starting point is 00:12:46 the benny jessarit were like because his mom chose to give heard the love of her her husband a son and air and look what her instincts ended up being the air is it is actually the sort of like the Messiah the Harkinen or whatever you call it I know I get the the Harkinen I think that's what it's called but you you can see that her instincts are sort of like she didn't need to birth a daughter for that prophecy to come true and in that she gave her husband and an heir and a son. And now the Benny Jeserite are seeing a totally different picture than what they imagine because they imagine it's only women. Only women could survive the water of life and all of this. And it's quite a twist to have him there. And I think it's such a nice
Starting point is 00:13:39 way to sort of bring an ending to this story where it's like your father ruled with heart. They didn't like it, he died, right? And now, Paul is now making the choice in that he may lead with some heart in the next movie. I don't think he's totally lost it. But in that choice, when this emperor is speaking to him, what is in view? What is in the shot is Paul with a huge division between him and Chani? And who is right there? The girl that he has, to take hands with in order to sort of unite this world
Starting point is 00:14:21 and bring this this sort of prophecy together and you see that divide to where you go okay not only is it a metaphor for will he rule with heart or not right now he's stepping away
Starting point is 00:14:38 from heart and then the heart freaking leaves the room she's like deuses I need to go ride a sandworm which I understand I thought it was a beautiful way to show us that without speaking all of it, right? Just to show us that what's in frame and then we see towards the end,
Starting point is 00:14:59 you know, that the houses are there and it's wild just to hear the mom at the end where she's like, this is the war. Yeah, no, it's a great setup for the third one. I can't wait to see it. I'm just like I wanted to see it right away. Also, too, at some point, again I'm more excited to see the third one obviously but at some point I would love to react with you to the 1984 one. I don't know how much of this it covered in terms of the first two films but I would love to check that one out but again I'm I love the setup for part three I think the first one did a great job setting up part two so I'm just I haven't read the book I don't think no yeah yeah so I don't know a lot more if I'd read the book. Yeah yeah so oh yeah right with the bear again I don't even know if that's in the it probably is.
Starting point is 00:15:45 But whatever the case, I'm excited and to see where this goes. Yeah, me too. The war with the houses. What ends up happening with Paul and Chani? I'm just, I'm excited. I'm just, the possibilities are endless. I agree. You want to read like three trivia?
Starting point is 00:16:00 No spoilers, though, because we have the next one. Right. Yeah, let me just read a couple of the non-spoiler ones, I guess. A quick question before I read the first one. Yeah. How long do you think it took, because you're really good usually with this stuff? How long do you think it took to put Stell and Scarsgaards body makeup on? in your opinion.
Starting point is 00:16:17 Is he the tall, skinny one? He's in real life. Baron Vladimir Harkinen. No, no, I know. I'm talking about the actor. Scarsgard normally, he's the tall. This is what he looks like. Oh, yeah, him.
Starting point is 00:16:29 Okay. I think it probably, to put him in that full thing. Yes, with makeup. Five and a half hours. Eight. Wow. Stelling Scarsgarde's body makeup took eight hours to apply and two hours to remove for every.
Starting point is 00:16:45 every day of shooting. He didn't drink anything and took emodium pills in order to avoid having to go to the bathroom during shooting days. Emodium pills? It stops you from pooping. I thought you were going to say peeing
Starting point is 00:16:59 because I was going to say, I need to do that before I go to bed because I am up all night doing that. Too much information. I know people. Lady Jessica's facial tattoos are the Benny Jeserate litany against fear. Oh.
Starting point is 00:17:12 I did not know. That's cool. I was right. Greg Frazier, so I remembered that because Greg got on me in the review. I said, I love Roger Deacon's cinematography. Andrew, it's Greg Frazier. Greg Frazier cinematography of cinematographer of Dune part one and part two suggested to shoot the sequence of Giddy Prime, the Harkin and Homeworld, with infrared cameras to give the skin a translucent texture. I love the way they did that with that black and white style. That was just absolutely incredible. Oh, so he shot that with the infrared? I'm guessing that's what it says the Harkin and Homeworld. That was on that... Oh, okay. I'm assuming that's what that was.
Starting point is 00:17:50 Okay, that's very cool. I guess we could do one more, right? Okay. Yeah. All righty. Fade Ratha, Elvis. His fight on Giddy Prime is seen in a black and white infrared color palette apparently induced by a black sun that the planet orbits around.
Starting point is 00:18:08 This is the first time that the Giddy's sun is shown in a Dune adaptation. However, the description in the book of, and I quote, excuse me, planet of the black sun is likely to be metaphorical as all stars emit light and a planet receiving no light would not be able to sustain itself. Yeah, because I was wondering, you know, what is their intention in making it black and white that kept going through my brain? I'm just like, what am I reading here? What am I supposed to be getting from the choice to make it black and white?
Starting point is 00:18:41 But with that information, I really like, because there's always an intention behind it at that time of me watching it. I didn't know the intention. But now that adds a lot that it is the Black Sun type of a planet, which I find very interesting. Also, as to the black on like their teeth and all that. There's little details in us not reading the book and not knowing everything about it that now that throughout this movie, they're sort of throwing upon us in a nice way. So the next movie, just really quickly, it's going to be called Dune Messiah.
Starting point is 00:19:19 No release date. As of right now, it's just in development. It's going to be coming out at some point soon, but just no release date. Oh, all right. Yeah, well, the first one was 2021. It came out, and this one came out in 2024. I'm going to assume 2027 or 28.
Starting point is 00:19:33 Yeah. Somewhere in that frame. Okay. I would imagine something. Well, I hope so. I love this movie. I had a blast. Make sure that you leave a like, leave a comment.
