Thank you to Hewell for sponsoring this video. More on them in just a bit.
Check it all out.
We're going to watch the show now.
Let's do it.
We just finished episode Quattro of The Show.
What was the title?
I love the titles of these things.
Twice born.
She's born.
That's right.
Lila.
Got a couple of different.
This is good.
They're good at putting a lot of, you know,
instances of the meaning of the title into the episodes.
this episode included.
Let's see.
We're going to do a rock paper scissors on who wants to go first.
Two out of three.
And two out of three.
All right.
Rock paper, scissors, shoot.
All right.
Rock paper, scissors, shoot.
All right.
Rock paper scissors shoot.
Well, rock paper scissors shoot.
Okay.
I got one.
One each.
Be who, who, he.
That is the most fun.
Yeah.
Coitus.
That was like five and a other way.
exact same.
Yeah, geek checks.
We think alike.
That was a whole saga.
What you got?
I thought this was not as strong as episodes two and three for me.
I would agree.
A little bit stronger than one, but I think one had a taller order of having to get us immersed.
But I think that this was overall kind of a bridge between the finale and Act 2.
To me, it feels like Act 1 was largely handled in the first episode in some of Two and Three.
but a lot of two and three was flashbacks to
endear us to the characters more
so this kind of felt like the act two
in a single episode but in that
it kind of felt like it was just moving certain elements
for it. It felt like when you watch
I don't watch a lot of people play chess
but if I were to... You're on a YouTube
just watch a chess mask. No not I got to New York
I fly in New York and I just stand in the park
and I just go like ah. Quay's searching
for Bobby Fisher. Now always
always I am. No but I think it would be like
the middle of the chess game where it's
just moving the pieces to the inevitable
now we are all at a position of like power moves
and this feels like right before the third act
which I think episodes five and six are going to be
like a one two punch of finale
but as such and I forgive a lot
this episode did drag for me a bit
because it was that connecting those things
I'm not as invested
in the present cast as the flashback cast
so I think some of that is causing me
to be a little bit more like
I always find the power in a vacuum concept very interesting.
Like there was a lot of commentary on like what you do to keep your power,
what you do when this falls apart.
There was a lot of maneuvering.
But overall, like things are about to happen.
And until it does, I'm like, okay, I know it's coming.
Yeah.
I agree with you about the whole chess and playing checkers and all that.
I thought that would go to the park and observe.
Yes.
It's a fun afternoon.
Yeah, yeah.
No, but I like.
watching the strategic plays being made but also too i like seeing all the characters being put in
pressure situations and how they react to it you have the uh mark strong son like dealing with a pressure
situation his sister coming to him and then he kind of folded right there you have uh baron harkin
and he's put into the the pressure situation he kind of folds right there so it's interesting seeing
these characters be put into these positions yeah everybody has like some kind of big like prove yourself
moment they have to do for sure and again i i get it's tough positions i really like
That scene was really cool.
I loved that.
Just seeing because you have so many different facets of situations that are going on in that one scene.
So I was like, wait, what's going to happen here?
And that was a really cool resolve with what happened with Desmond Armand.
Like, okay, how's he going to get out of this?
And then obviously they said it.
How's old Desmond boy is going to get out of this one.
But it was, no, I actually did like that resolve.
And again, just seeing how resourceful his character is.
And again, he set up everything.
Obviously, he had the queen, is that right?
Or the emperor's wife.
Oh, yeah, yeah, I think it's empress or queen or whatever issues.
Yeah, yeah, he had her blessing to send out this team for the machine sympathizer.
So we all, I like how they planted that seed.
And then obviously right at the nick of time, I was going to, would be a travesty for him if they showed up 10 or 15 minutes later.
So that was like perfect timing, I will say.
But again, I did like the essence of that scene.
And again, just shows like the threatening manner in which he did that in front of everybody gave, again,
Mark Strong, the push he needed.
But, you know, with that, and also, too, I thought it was interesting, too, because I was just talking about, you know, with these characters in the pressure type of situation, you could tell, like, how tough of a bind the brother, or the son, Mark Strong's son, was in because he wanted to be there for his sister.
Yeah.
But then on top of that, he's like he didn't want to disappoint his father, too.
So it's an interesting family dichotomy to be in.
So I thought that was interesting drama right there.
And then going to the Harkin family, when you see, is it, I always say her name.
Bada, yeah.
I thought that was interesting, too, with her uncle, who I thought was her father this whole time.
Uncle Daddy.
Great uncle.
Yes, I thought that was really, I liked a lot of that.
I agreed with a lot of what he was saying, because if she would have just bled, and I get it, the vendetta with her brother.
And I know he made the case, like, if you would have just let bygones.
You get both of their POV.
Yeah, no, no, no.
But I thought he made an interesting case, but I would also say to him, like, if you didn't treat her like this this whole time, he wouldn't have been maybe doing this.
Yeah, no, he's a great guy.
We should all be an uncle as good of him,
or hope to have an uncle as nice as him.
He's got the mug.
But, yeah, no, if she would have just let bygones be bygones
and also not send Tula, right?
If she would have not sent Tula out to do this whole...
Tito.
To let Tula do this whole vendetta mission,
which that's one of my favorite scenes, by the way,
in all the episodes, how that all happened.
That whole episode is awesome.
Yeah, that whole episode was awesome.
Yeah, it was incredible.
But if she wouldn't have her do that whole thing again,
I'm curious to see if it really wasn't Atreides that did that.
to their brother but whatever um the point is if she would have just let things happen like
and naturally not done all that like would there still be this uh i think within a couple hundred
years the whole thing would have died down between the adraeas and the heart condition right they
even said like we should not let our grandfathers be our sense of duty yeah so but i think that
was a very like it was a tough conversation i think it was kind of like her having that tough
conversation was a little bit cathartic for her but also too like pissing her off as well just because
she hates his guts but also
I thought that was kind of a respect level too
in terms of me watching this character
even though I don't like him
just like you know she could like
destroy you in any which way with the voice
and she's got this source of back in his chair
yes exactly I'm like
back in her around yeah
now just circle in the table
yeah yeah so I found that scene to be very
fascinating too like this guy has
I mean even no fear of his
his niece right now
and she's been mother superior for
yeah yeah
But he doesn't care.
Like, he still sees, like, his weakling of a niece with sorcerer powers.
That he's always hated that ruined his family.
Yeah, exactly, exactly.
Thank you to Hewle for sponsoring today's video.
Now, guys, I'm going to give you all the God's honest truth of how this sponsorship came to be.
Sponsorship came to be.
We got contacted about basically partnering up with Hewle.
Before we agreed to anything, the very first thing I said was I would like to try the product first.
I did a Instagram post on our Real Rejects one.
It was the first time you see me trying the Hewell product.
Basically going, like, hey, we might not partner with them.
This is not a paid Instagram post, but I just wanted to try it since a lot of you guys
asked for, like, health recommendations now and the know kind of what I take only because
of the fact that I'm vegetarian.
I have very limited protein options.
So I gave it a shot and ended up loving it.
Primarily the chocolate one.
Wow, this is really, this is a really great one.
One of the best things about it is that, yes, it's prepackaged.
And a lot of times when it comes to, like, the prepackaged bottles, I'm not a big fan
of them normally, which he got me drinking on camera.
is one of these, which takes a very long time to put together and can often get messy.
It's just not aesthetically pleasing, but I'm trying to pack like a lot of vitamins and fiber protein.
The best part about Huell is a lot of what I try to pack it to this one giant shake is already available in this little bottle.
Often taste better than what I can actually assemble myself.
It actually tastes great.
It's got a high protein intake count as well.
And you know what?
Brad new bottle.
If you guys can see, it's filled to the top.
This is how good it tastes.
Now, normally what you want to do is spread it out, but if you want it in one go,
it is just as good.
It tastes really freaking good.
Thank you so much for sponsor in this video.
The one thing they want me to say is this is you can get 15% off Huell today with code
rejects at Huell.com slash Rejects.
Fuel your best performance with Huel today.
They are great, and I am already almost out of the many bottles they sent me.
If you guys do go check them out at Hewell.com slash Rejects.
You'll see they've got a whole bunch more items available as well.
And if they taste anything as good as this, I'm going to be a very happy customer for a very, very long time.
So, join me on this health journey.
So, John, what did you think of this episode?
I agree with things that the both of you said.
I think there's, yeah, this is, I definitely felt the time a little bit more in this episode than especially the,
any of the previous three, really,
because the first episode you have the benefit of, like,
oh, this is all new.
But, yeah, I felt the time a bit in some of this,
and I would agree that I have a,
you know, obviously the flashback stuff functions
largely to endear you to characters.
And so, like, yeah, I find the present timeline
in characters interesting to a degree,
but I'm more like, I care more about the young iterations
of especially Volia and Tula.
Which is so interesting.
Yeah, I'm the same,
And it's interesting.
I'm like, can we go back too well to not show?
Because I like that part of the show, but it's not the show.
What the show's about is...
Well, and I'm curious about a lot of things because I really like them on the present timeline as the actors.
And especially thinking back to episodes one and two, I was like, especially Tula, like, you know, because of what Valia has to do, she has to be more stoic.
It's a little harder for her to have emotion on the main timeline.
I get it.
I think some of her interactions with Tula helped to bridge that gap in the process.
present and I think Tula in previous episodes has some really effective moments as an emotional
character that here I feel like we're to that point in the show where there's a lot happening
and you know we've got the entirety of the chessboard in this episode we have both the kind
of spiritual slash nightmare side that's sort of the wraparound for everything we have this dream
and then you know we ultimately bookend into Lila coming back and you know all this unrest is
happening within the sisterhood is sort of an isolated thing but then also you have the
convergence of all the other houses and stuff like that and so there's like a bunch happening
and i feel like you know maybe we'll get to the end of six episodes and i'll be like yeah
it was a good choice of length but i feel like especially in this day and age when we don't do
the 24 episode default season anymore uh and the shows are allowed like to to give credit
where it's due like this show is pretty consistent in terms of like each episode is about an hour
and that's good and proportional but i do wonder if in the economic
of storytelling mechanics versus character stuff,
it could have maybe benefited from like an eight episode season
or something, just in the sense that you have to live up to
with a show like this,
Game of Thrones tends to be the go-to plug-in
for like, what do you have to live up to?
You have to have a level of writing
that makes the political intrigue tense and interesting,
but that also allows you time to spend in the world
and the life of the characters
so that you can see from their eyeline.
and then you have your pulp cool
supernatural shit
also happening over here
and I feel like in an episode like this
it kind of shows that like I could
have maybe used a few
more moments with a lot of characters
to just like kind of live in their
life and their moment like I would care
a lot more about
the princess
like I like her and I like the
I like a lot of the performers and I like a lot of like the
moments and the isolated
scenes but I feel like there's something
that could be more rich about the writing
in terms of both
when and how they allow you a slice of life
with certain characters or at least some
meaningful moment that isn't just about
the plot. And it's like on the flip side
I admire an episode like this because I was like, yeah, this is
pretty, you know, competently
ironed out in terms of like, okay, here is all
the competing motivations
and ultimately it's leading
to this big convergence
where some shit's going to go down
and we don't know exactly what because everyone's
planning something for this meetup. And that's cool.
But I also feel like in an ideal world,
I would have been locked into kind of every different perspective on that.
And I definitely don't care about every character enough to be as invested in the chessboard
or in the culmination of everything as I want to be.
And I think that was by with this issue didn't really hit for me.
It's like, when everyone's in that one room and I know stuff's about to go down,
I should be like, oh, and instead of my, oh, like, oh.
Yeah, and I was like, interesting.
I was in growth.
I was intrigued, yeah.
But I wasn't like, oh, my God, I'm tense.
It's like my, I feel like you actually maybe out of the most, out of the three of us got the most of that, like, hearts, you know, the rise in your heartbeat, the feeling of the- I'm easy to impress guys.
Well, no, like, I'm glad if it gets you there to that point.
And there are moments where the show for me does.
It has my interest, but it doesn't have my attention.
I agree with you guys, though.
It's a good metaphor.
I definitely agree with a lot of what you guys are saying, and I did feel the runtime for sure the most out of the four episodes.
It definitely dragged quite a bit.
I will say too one other thing I did love and again we've seen them do you know the way they manipulate things
I love the way she got baron harkening into the house you know how she was spreading the rumor like
I thought that was really cool like her maneuvering skills and again just the way she placed the chess board
and then again Desmond Hart just like strangulates her her plan right the last second and I love that line like what do I do know she just did it for you
like yeah she had some good lines in there as well momentum breaks through and fits and bursts that's that's
That's part of the thing.
Oh, yeah, it was definitely, I had moments of like, yeah, yeah, but it wasn't enough that it built to a thing for me.
Yeah, yeah.
No, I would definitely say this is, and again, I'm not just agreeing to agree.
I would say it's probably the weakest episode of the four, or even though I still enjoyed it.
Well, that's the problem area.
I think a show like this falls into and with rings of power, we have certainly been on the journey of this very conversation of like the troublesome thing is, I feel like largely this show has been pretty good.
Pretty good.
Pretty good.
The trouble is it's Dune, and it has to live up to great.
Yeah.
We just got the undoable movies.
Right.
Which truly, like, to this,
Dune came out in February, March.
Still my favorite movie of the year.
Sure.
That's crazy.
I still forget that it was this year.
I know.
We watch so many movies.
That it's impossible to quantify.
Yeah.
I think I hit my 200th movie,
the last movie I watched for the year.
That's it?
I know.
Slackin.
But all that TV as well.
Yeah, yeah, right.
That's a lot to live up to.
Yeah.
That's a lot to live up to.
I'm talking 2024 movies.
Yeah, no, no, no.
I've watched 200 movies of this year's movies,
and Dune is still number one.
So, like, this hard to...
And last thing, too, I did find it very fascinating,
seeing Desmond Hart when he was using the full force of his power there
and, like, on four people at once.
Yeah.
And seeing him bleed out.
Yeah, and then obviously, I'm curious to see where we go
with collecting his DNA and seeing, like, the reveal of who he really is.
Yeah.
I am curious about that.
I think the next two episodes are going to slap.
I just think, yeah.
It was at the cost of this one's pacing.
Right.
I think, too, the next couple episodes, I would imagine.
There's still going to be the political stuff, but I feel like we're throwing down.
The stronger of the two elements, at least, between the political intrigue and the sort of metaphysical intrigue.
I think the metaphysical intrigue is way more interesting.
It's like the texture and the flavor is kicking over there.
Whereas in the political side of things, it's a little more like, I've seen versions of this before.
So, yeah, I'm hoping.
that hopefully the next two
because some of the board has been cleared out
and because this is so kind of
entered the realm of you've got the
cosmic space witches and you've also got
this like
you know Lisa Nalgaib guy who's got
magic powers and shit and they're going to
converge and no one knows what to do about each
other and like the game board
is changing and I feel like that's a
pretty intriguing setup and I am very
curious I mean
sorry I am curious too
in terms of the family drama with the political
stuff in terms of Mark Strong's family.
Like, yeah, he might have gained control of his
political power and all that as the
emperor and all that, but I feel like he's
losing control of his family.
Like, I mean, he's like, 100%
has no control.
No, no, but I mean, like,
my favorite part of the Mark Strong character
is the entire show, he's basically
sitting around going like, I don't think now is
the time, we shouldn't be hasty about this
and then someone goes, makes a decision.
They're like, hey, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
We did this shit for you.
My grandpa and my dad did a lot. I'm figuring
it out. Yeah, and then people come back to him.
just like, stand here, take the credit,
and we're going to climb to the top of this
just to shut up and take the credit.
But that's going to be interesting to see in the next episode.
You're going to see that dichotomy between the sister and the brother.
Like, where were you in the courtroom?
And then you're going to see the dad and Mark Strong and his daughter.
Like, what are you doing?
I kind of think so.
You know, the family drama stuff is going to be.
The house of cards is set nice.
Yeah, yeah.
I just got a little, it was a little tedious,
some of the placement of the cards.
That's all.
It's just set up.
And there are times when you really want to care a little bit more.
Yeah, yeah, fair enough.
Voo in the bar and then blue eyes is watching over them.
I should be like, oh man, oh man, this is risky.
And, you know, in that moment, I was like, oh, that's right.
They're kind of together.
I just want to be fair to the other episodes.
Because, like, if something, if it's all great, then nothing great.
And this one just didn't hit quite like the last two did.
It was a nice, for me, the show was a nice, like, climbing toward episode three, episode
three, we're like, all right, sweet.
Now we're locked in.
And this was like, okay, we're back down to like, it's a pretty good version of what this
could be, but it's not yet.
And I think the next two will escalate.
So find out with us.
Yeah, thanks for joining us, guys.
Leave us your thoughts on the episode.
Do you think this is the best episode of any show in 2024?
That's right.
Except the penguin.
Everyone seems unanimously agree it's the best show.
John has not seen the penguin yet.
I finally finished it.
Oh, thank God.
I'm right behind you.
Everyone in the comments, let John know that he needs to watch the penguin.
Yes.
Tell me how good the penguin is.
In fact, boost this video by leaving tons of penguin comments and go.

Congrats to my studios today.
We'll catch you on the next one.
Let the spice flow.
