thank john and andrew for joining me today how are you gents anytime coi i'm doing well i'm ready to to find out what happened in all the the political intrigue of last week
Oh, I was thinking of the eyeballs.
There's so much eyeballs.
Like, what's happening in all the eyeballs?
Yeah, I feel like a quissat's Hatterok.
I'm in the future, but I don't know what's happened.
Got it.
Yeah.
Andrew's been practicing these works.
I've been saying, yeah, for like two weeks now, John, actually.
I have not slept.
That was so much.
I was like, what does it even mean?
And then I was like, oh, right, I'm rendering RAM.
All right, we're going to find out what Andrew already knows.
Hey, two, one.
Oh, he's about to pull that issue.
I, Lude.
Yes, he is.
I get a sandworm for you.
Oh, wow.
Oh, boy.
Well, that is personally what I was hoping episode five with me,
which is back to the power of what the midseason felt like.
That penultimate was pretty great.
If you're listening on Spotify or any sort of podcast,
we just watched episode five of Dune Prophase.
Only one more left next week.
One more.
That's a lot to wrap up in one episode.
It really is.
I have a lot to say, but I want to hear from you guys first.
Andrew, what do you got?
Yeah, I enjoyed it.
I thought the most interesting thing, I mean, amongst a lot of interesting things.
Volia's, I feel like she's losing her grasp on everything, just in terms of, like, all the students are starting to leave the school, I guess.
And also, too, people are questioning her, the sisters are questioning her.
You got...
Well, I mean, Mother Superior?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, Valia, right?
Volia, yeah, I just mean she's...
She felt the least control of subsist.
Yeah, yeah, that's what I meant.
and like...
Until you, too.
Yeah, well, I mean, like, you had the...
Well, like, you had the fremen, and then the...
I feel like the, like, from the body language,
I feel like the face-changer one, you know?
I feel like she...
Face dancer, right? Is that what they called it?
Whatever.
Someone in the comments was like, that's a thing,
and I was like, I read the books.
Yeah, yeah, exactly.
I feel like, too, just from her body language,
that she's, you know, questioning her as well.
So I feel like she was losing grasp and control,
but I like to all the different...
manipulation again from everyone
is trying to like get on
the chess pieces or like you know
the maneuvering through everything I thought that was
fascinating as well
yeah no it's interesting
stuff I love the inclusion
of the mother of Constantine
with Taboo she's a great
actor yeah yeah for sure
so I'm curious to see where we go with
that and I
didn't realize like again that
shield was going to be so protective as well
it's interesting because it's slowly
He said he should have died.
Yeah, I'm thinking it's concussive, preventative, right?
Because in the movie, like, when they go slow, can get through.
But I'm guessing the impact, it was able to, like...
Yeah, there's just so much...
Yeah, so much force.
He's probably all ricocheted off.
And dude's got control of heat.
So maybe he's used to a little toasty.
We see him cook people.
For sure.
But I think what I just said, though, I'm curious how the last...
I'm looking forward to the last episode, but it's a lot to...
It's going to be a lot to unpack in the last episode, I feel like.
So I'm...
This doesn't feel like a...
a show that's going to be finished on it.
That's what my
that's what my worry is absolutely what my worry is going to be.
But I did like all the stuff too with
Lila and all that. Like I love her
performance. Like she felt completely
different, which is obviously the point
than she did from like her meager
former self when she was playing Lila.
So I thought great versatility from
that actress when she was
playing Mother Raquel or whatever her name is
and the other memories that she was
encompassing from the
former ancestors that she was doing so that was great i'd love that and i really feel like
ballia could be and even tula could be in severe danger once she's kind of unleashed in the next
episode possibly yeah i agree oh yeah no i think they're both at at high risk volley obviously more so
and it's been funny to watch yeah or fun interesting to watch her descend in a way like she always
has her sense of resolve and that i mean she wasn't even in like a ton of this episode but
like every little moment
as each episode progresses
you feel the desperation
just a little bit more
ever since that whole
ever since she was shaken up by Desmond
now everything feels like
every time she describes
a contingency plan it sounds like she's also
trying to convince herself of its viability
we planned that
yeah like with the squeak
contingency for a contingency
of a contingency
I meant to do that thing that happened at us
that he lived through this explosion
we've got plans for that
you know and then she's like I love that
whole thing between her and her nephew
and him like
that was great because to introduce
that concept that
deceit whatever it might be
through just him and Desmond at first
so you're like okay like maybe he is
like with that character you believe
like I could see why he would
turn away from
Valia's influence
and help Desmond at the same
time, I can see how he would double agent this, and I don't know which side he's going to ultimately
wind up on, and I think that's fun. And then Tula certainly, like, is in her own way losing control
of everything back at, you know, the sisterhood H.Q. But watching them, yeah, go back and forth with
the Acolyte who isn't having the dreams, and everything with Lila and the other, you know, Mother
Superior who's there, or the other, you know, lady of great status who is always there. Not Maggie
Smith, I will call her. I was thinking so many things.
times. I'm like, she'd be a great
what's her name? Maganagall. Yeah. There was some big
Maganagal energy in this episode.
Absolutely. Good Grandma Wendy. Yeah.
And yeah, like, you know,
the various other things, like this, I would
agree, is one of the stronger episodes of the season.
You know, the Constantine
stuff, he's one of those characters
that's kind of hard to
it can be kind of a thankless character,
I think, to play because it's like, angst guy.
I think he's doing a great job.
Yeah. The actor, I hope, if you're watching this actor,
great work but such a nini
and that's the strength
he's a stubborn yeah no but his
but his acting is good
yeah he's killing it as a nini and he's
not just it's not the
I wouldn't necessarily say that his defining
trait is coward as I think it's just that he doesn't
have a place or perceive
himself as having a place and he's angsty
about that lack of place
and I get why and I think
it's a better version of this than I've seen
in a lot of other shows where this character would be
flat out annoying right
But, you know, there's, I'm curious and potentially excited to see that character perhaps rise into a bit more of an interesting type of role rather than, you know, what it's been up till now.
I think he's going to help his sister out in the next episode with something with Atreides. That's my guess.
my thoughts real quick
I really like that the Harkinen
guy
his arc is seemingly
more interesting that I had feared
much like the cowardly character
Constantine I was afraid that
introducing the Harkinens he'd be kind of one note
and only serve the purpose of that one
like scapegoat betrayal and I
really like that in this episode there's a lot more
to him because I was worried that
the Harkinans and the Atreides
are the roots of
what I know of Dune so I
was afraid that we'd be so focused on
this stuff that they would be kind of background
characters so we'd be like oh cool they're involved
I really like that especially at that
reveal at the end I again we don't know
this collective lore I know it's in the books
but I didn't know that Desmond Hart was a
you know like I said Biggie for core
it's really interesting to see
this culmination in the Hark and
Trades be so vital so I love
that we've got an Atreides that I think
is going to end up winning even though he's currently
suspended in the air and all that stuff like
him surviving feels very
pointed and important, but I also love
that the other Harkinen is on
a mission that seems like it's going to do something
other than him just have that one moment in the courtroom.
So I really dug that. Desmond Hart
is as ever very interesting.
This episode felt like the culmination of a lot of
arcs in a penultimate episode. My biggest
concern is you touched on a little bit.
I don't think this show
has done as well as it needs to
do a season two, at least from
like at least from just like
the optics on other review
channels, other reaction channels, like you
see, you know, if we get
5% of the
100% of people that are watching it, that's
you know, I don't know what the ratio is, but I do
see the numbers on reactions
versus other shows. I don't, we
don't have TV guide anymore. We don't have
like Nielsen ratings. I have no way of knowing
how this is doing. That's why streamers
should have agreed to sag contracts about
revealing stuff because we don't know if shows
will continue if this made money.
And the actors aren't getting paid because it's on stream.
But it is, it is
interestingly tricky with
streaming not having the back end knowledge for going forward.
Like, I don't know whether I should expect a cliffhanger or not.
I don't know if this was considered a limited series when it was incepted versus is it going to be a limited series.
So it doesn't feel like one of all.
There's so much, there's so much doing the finale.
And that is, you know, not to denigrate.
I love that Max made a swing to make something bold and heady and super dense and something with so much lore.
I'm just worried that if it doesn't feel like.
it comes to a conclusion with the numbers not being we don't know what they are it's just
concerning so i i miss tv getting more time to breathe and and flesh itself out i miss you know
22 episode seasons i miss uh i miss there being a time where you could fall in love with the show
and then it get the time to find its audience we don't live in that time anymore so my concern is
that we're on episode five i now really like the my point of all that rambling i really now like
the modern version of these characters not just the flashback versions but it took
until episode five.
I said pretty clearly in episode four, I'm like, oh, no, I like flashback them.
Now with episode five, I like both ages of them, and we've got one more hour with them.
So I, is my main concern is that whether that feels like closure, whether that feels
when we got her journey, I'm now invested, perhaps too late.
So I'm really curious what happens next week because of that connection to these
characters.
And I think it's more a symptom of societal expectation on shows versus the show's
fault it is a slow burn sci-fi and i think that is really hard in 2024 to make and to do so i want
to thank everyone responsible for giving me these five hours i'm very hopeful for the sixth hour
this episode was dope rejagnation i'm here to interrupt this video just for a little bit to let you
know that for a limited time at rejagnation shop.com we have exclusive apparel just like the one i am
wearing right now on my body this is a reject sweater the brainchild of the she checks terra ericson
and Roxy Stryor. They really were like, you know, we don't want to just only do a Christmas
one. We want it to be a full holiday celebration. I absolutely love this design. I've been
wearing this sweater an awful lot wherever I go. It's a fantastic thing for you to gift yourself
or to gift to someone else this holiday season. And the other things that were launched were
the brainchild of one Aaron Alexander, something that I was jealous that I never thought of. And that is
the Scarbucks coffee. They got the Scarbucks hoodie. They got the Scarbucks coffee mug. There's also
the Rejects mug as well. There's also an addition to that, the Agatha Bruce hoodie. I absolutely
adore all these designs. I am so impressed with the three of them. We're able to concoct along with
the amazing artists to help support them, of course. We really care about finding material that fits
very comfortable. Is it comfortable or comfortably? Language. And on top of that, too, designs that we
really feel resonate with us and can also resonate with those who watch us. You beautiful reject
citizens. There's a barcode here that you can scan if you want to go to the shop or you can go to
Rejectation Shop.com.
Treat yourself or treat someone else.
Either way, it's a great way to support the channel
and to support your wardrobe collection.
Yeah, I agree.
And I've still enjoyed what I've seen,
and I agree with everything you said.
I also, too, would have loved
if they would have made the Machine Wars as well.
I would have been all for that as well.
I feel like that's more of a common trope,
so maybe that's why they avoided it.
Yeah, no, no, no, I get that too.
I get that, too.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, of course.
I totally get that, and I get that comparison as well.
But, yeah.
I really dug the spice.
in its like
I love a land of scum and villainy
and I really just love the idea of like
spice being this great treachery
that's traded and used for thousands of years
like I really love that as currency
it's one of the reasons I really love Dune is like
the underbelly of drug culture being used
in a way that's like you know going to this club and everything
and then like it's just a really fascinating
world now that we've gotten to live in it long enough
that like I'm invested in this era of Dune as well
I hope we get more but yeah I really like this episode
I feel like everyone's duplicitousness was really brought to a head in this episode.
I feel like you mentioned like there's the them, the betrayal, and then there's the emotion.
Like I love that there's all these different spheres of them that this episode really kind of shown a light and who everyone was.
I love that peacocking Desmond Hart got to come out to play.
Like he's been like little like I'm a little mischievous boy.
And then this episode he's like, I got pockets on my belly.
Like he's just strutting around peacocking with his boys.
There's just so much that like even Mark Strong who's we as a.
you know, movie and TV watchers, Mark Strong has this command in his presence.
Every episode we've commented on how cool it is to see Mark Strong play something different.
He's not in control.
He's not the leader that he should be.
He's not these things.
I love that this episode, he's playing the general Mark Strong type role, but he's still playing it with cracks.
And we have lived long enough with him to see that he's like doing his bravado, but we know the real him.
And that's really cool to see.
Like this episode really feels like what I've wanted it to feel like in the modern day the whole time.
But you had to get here.
It's a sloper.
So I really dug it.
When you get a good sense, I feel like of that thing they always talk about with like,
ooh, the Benjessera, they're planning things over centuries and ages.
And it's like between different characters, I feel like you kind of feel just instinctually
the different like rings of time and proportions of time.
Yeah.
You kind of feel like, okay.
Because that's kind of why I got confused at the beginning of the review,
because it's like the stuff happening at the school is all kind of, you know,
it all affects her, it's related to her.
It's due to big aspects of her leadership.
But that also is more immediately in the moment affecting Tula,
because Tula is the one like he's actually in the house,
doing the research and working with Lila and all that other stuff.
And you can feel that they're both working towards the same end,
but on two different scales of time.
And like that stuff is really cool to feel in a show that obviously is supposed to have that kind of instinctually in the DNA.
And yeah, you know, the whole, you know, I like that.
what's her name at the bar got some
the fremen yeah she got some good moments
immediately became a favorite
yeah yeah yeah she's been like background
cool but this episode was like oh that's why I've been
like that's cool character yeah like this episode
really launched her into importance
and that was a great reveal I liked how
with the tradies and like there's that whole
theme in this about betrayal
uh and the sister garb coming out of the
yeah yeah yeah for sure for sure
yeah I really dug this I'm excited for the finale
we'll be back next week with the episode 6
finale and friggininez
I was going to say I love that scene where she
interrogates her one yeah that was great
actually you know because I'm really curious about
what's going to happen with her because obviously like
to be Constantine
to be his sister's protector he's also
got to ingratiate himself to dad which is going to
initially drive her away so it's like
you know again that scale of planning
is like kind of tricky to
parse in the here and now which
adds to the fun of finding out
next week who is going to go
and yeah I'm curious to see
where she heads
now in light of this and what that
might mean for what Constantine is trying
to do and what his mom is trying to set them on.
I think they team up, take out the family.
I could see that, yeah, for sure.
I think Mark Strong gets taken out by his,
he's been full of doubt this whole time.
I think they use that as a weakness.
I think Constantine messes up
and causes something to go wrong.
I think we end it with Desmond
and Mama Bear in power
and daughter and handsome,
McWest Bentley in power and
and the Atreides Harkin and stuff
ramps up in some way. Yeah.
Those are my thoughts. And I know we've always said
sisterhood above all, but I think this episode
also reinforces that Valiya just
does not care about anyone. Anyone at all.
Because we talked about
contingency about, you know, from
contingency to contingency. Oh, I knew
that might happen, so I have this plan over this
plan. But again, like this
Fremen who's a sister to her
or a sister, she
just lost her entire business.
It took her years.
Oh, yeah, yeah, it's okay.
It was worth it for the cause.
It's like...
That is totally some mother's superior shit, though.
That's like...
No, no, no, I get that, but I'm like, no ounce of remorse or anything.
I'm like, nothing at all.
Like, that's...
She didn't have remorse when her own literal sister killed my own family.
I love that evolution.
No, no, for sure, for sure.
Yeah, but I think that could be her undoing possibly.
Oh, I definitely think it is for sure.
Yeah, I think that's a seed planted.
Yeah, for sure.
So...
Dune 5!
Awesome stuff!
Really dug this one.
We'll back next week.
