This week's videos are sponsored by PricePix, the easy to use fantasy sports betting app. More on them in just a bit. I am beyond excited for Elysium. Whatever the F it is. So now we're excited. 3, 2, 1.
Starting point is 00:01:27 Wow. That was great. Elysium, am I right? Elysium. Now we know. Now we really know. Because we didn't know. We really didn't at all. And it's weird because I love movies that are written and directed by the same person. Yeah, they've got a vision.
Starting point is 00:01:42 Yeah. That's why I love this. Man, this was so great. We're going to talk all about it. First, I do just want to say thank you to Prepper for helping edit us down. I also want to say that if you're on Apple, Spotify, 5 stars, YouTube, thumbs up, leave a comment. We read all of them. Also, follow us at Real Rejects on all social platforms.
Starting point is 00:02:08 Okay, I'm looking at these credits now. Okay, they're the only two got billed before the title. There's a lot of phenomenal actors in this. I've got to go back, look up there, IMDB, but, all right, Tara, let me ask you this. I know we're on the same page about this movie because I feel it, you feel it, but tell me what are your, before we get to the Patreon questions, What are your overall thoughts? I freaking love this movie. I definitely got goosebumps at the end.
Starting point is 00:02:41 I think one of my favorite things about this film, they had great effects, fun kills, people exploded. It all looked good. But there was no exposition. So when you just write something and you assume that your audience is smart enough to just follow the bits and pieces to see where we're headed, that's what I like.
Starting point is 00:03:02 and I think they did that and they did it successfully. There was any handholding in this movie, which I think is great. The casting was awesome and a really good plot. Like Rocks was saying earlier, you know, he would have given up way early. Just like I think any of us would if we didn't have like a reason for other people to live.
Starting point is 00:03:23 We just be like, all right, I'm dying of radiation. Bye. I mean, and the motivation that they gave him was really great. and the fact that his, the callback of his sacrifice with, look how beautiful we look to them and he's holding, you know, the earth thing and then she obviously gets it.
Starting point is 00:03:42 I just think it's really, it's beautiful. I loved it. Yeah, I'm with you. It was a really beautiful movie. I think it's very poignant to our times. Very early on you mentioned, and I agree about the parallels of this and our own borders and immigration
Starting point is 00:03:57 and calling human beings legal versus illegal for being alive and existing and wanting to be in certain locations is not only problematic but I think that movies like this really help put a spotlight on that because I don't think anybody watches this and is on the side of Jody Foster.
Starting point is 00:04:15 Right. And yet oftentimes people do side with politicians who want to who want to do with district borders to such an extreme. So yeah, I thought that this is a really, really excellent movie. I feel like this should have been
Starting point is 00:04:30 nominated for an Oscar. I'm with you. Good I thought that this was. But I want to know what the fans have to say. So would you mind going over to the patrons, Patreon.com slash The Real Rejects. That's where you can ask these questions to us
Starting point is 00:04:45 and we use them to guide our reviews. So as Terra pulls that up, I'll vamp, which sounds like this. Vamp. Elysium. Do some vamping. Rhymed with I'm sleepy some.
Starting point is 00:05:00 which is because we work a lot. That is not always hot. Okay, we found it. Here we go. All right. Thank you to our patrons. There's a couple of questions coming in for this one. I'm kind of shocked.
Starting point is 00:05:19 I feel like we would add so many questions for this subject matter. I agree. But let's see what you guys got. Hawk. How do you think you'd fare if this happened to our world? where the rich left the planet for a space station. I feel like we're getting pretty close. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:36 The rich are going to Mars. The rich do be going up into space. Yeah, it's true. Remember how much fun of Katie Perry everybody made? I do feel like, just like for the shame factor, rich people wouldn't be leaving the planet in the same way, but maybe it was. Totally. How would we fare? I guess it depends on how wealthy we were at that time.
Starting point is 00:05:57 Yeah, right? I mean like I don't blame anybody for going to the space station I know you know like if you think your planet is fucked and you can go let's get it out of here I blame them for not allowing the other people to be there with them I agree thinking that they're elite and better than so that's lame it's totally lame I'm like well if the rich left the planet for a space station And that made the lower and middle class more like rich. Because we get rid of the rich people. Now it's kind of even.
Starting point is 00:06:39 Might be pretty good. Might be pretty good. I don't know. Might be cool. I don't know. That's my answer to you, Hawk. I'm a little confused by this next question. Let's see how we do.
Starting point is 00:06:51 Okay. Jay Rushden. Question is best description of this movie an odd, weird plot. The movie is, it's definitely a bit out there. It's more sci-fi, a different kind of plot. I didn't find it hard to follow. So I didn't find it that weird, just different. The best description of this, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:07:17 Action, sci-fi. Reject Nation, thanks so much for tuning into this video because today's episode is brought to you by prize picks. I first learned about prize picks via through the misses because she's super into fantasy sports and honestly, kind of makes sense or sponsor in real rejects. Because what we do here has always been about experiences. Not just watching something, but feeling it. Being locked in, being present. Just to be clear, this isn't about pressure or chasing wins. It's about choice, engagement, and adding a little extra fun to something you were already watching. I get it. Try
Starting point is 00:07:48 something new, can be intimidating, whether that's starting a new routine or jumping into sports for the first time. But in life and on prize picks, it always feels good to be right. Price picks strips fantasy sports down to its simplest form. Trust your instincts. No drafts, no season-long commitments, no-no. You just pick more or less on player projections. And suddenly every game hits a little harder. Right now with high pressure NFL playoff games every weekend.
Starting point is 00:08:16 And elite NBA action almost every night pantomiming. The action never stops. And Price Picks lets you take control or just enjoy the games differently. They've added early payouts. So if your player gets hot, you can. cash out before the game even ends. You can choose flex play for flexibility or power play for bigger payouts. And even if your fantasy league is already over, prize picks lets you keep playing even through the playoffs. Right now they're available on all 50 states with fast, secure withdrawals and easy deposits.
Starting point is 00:08:46 You can download the price picks app today and use code rejects to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup. That's code rejects to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup price picks. Good to be right. Yeah, for sure. I mean, I know that's probably not what he's asking, but now we know the lethal part means if anybody tries to access this from your brain, you'll die. And that is what happened. I felt like this was, yeah. Is he asking for a plot?
Starting point is 00:09:14 I don't really get the question. Sorry, Jay. I don't know. Best description. Are you, maybe he's just saying it's an odd, weird plot. Is that a good description? And I'm like, eh, not in my book. I'd say sci-fi.
Starting point is 00:09:28 action drama because it kind of it gets you in the fields which i like it gets us to care and there's a a lot of a heist movie as well exactly and there's movies where that we watch that we are like we didn't care but they they did make us care at the top which is which is good about him about you know fray and then obviously we find out fray has a daughter because of that just the very beginning it's it's a good film yeah i i think that uh it could have been trash. Like with just this plot, it could have been trash,
Starting point is 00:10:04 but it took itself very seriously in the right way. Like the actual script, the dialogue was so strong. It wasn't over the top, like some kind of, you know, just action,
Starting point is 00:10:18 big blockbuster, no point of view. Yeah. This really did have a point of view. Actors with great chemistry. And, yeah, I thought that the,
Starting point is 00:10:28 I don't, honestly don't think this could have been much better. I am curious about, let's see if there's any, because those are it for our Patreon questions. Let's just check in really quick and see if there's any trivia in honor of Andrew. Or I also want to just see, was this nominated for anything or kind of like, how did this do? Yeah. Because why do you think we haven't heard of this?
Starting point is 00:10:51 I don't know. That's not done very well. Strange. And I feel like due to our questions, a lot of people probably have. haven't seen it either. Oh, this was Neil Blomkamp who did District 9 also, which I haven't seen what people love. Great movie. Yeah, and a lot of other good things. Okay. So, should I watch that for the channel? Yeah, I hope they put us on it because I don't remember it. I just remember the title, District 9, and going, great movie. Huh, no, none of the nominations that I think
Starting point is 00:11:24 that it should have had. Did it have sound design? No, no nominations. Oh, no nominations. I think it should have. Okay, let's see. In 2015, director Neil Baumkamp expressed his dissatisfaction with this film. In an interview shortly before he released Chappie, he claimed to have felt that he could have delved further into the film's story. Huh. That's interesting. The biography of John Carlyle displayed by the computer indicates that he was born in 2010, which makes him about 144 years old.
Starting point is 00:11:59 Oh, okay. That makes sense because you don't die. Right. Shalto Copley presented an American and Eastern European and a British version of Kruger to Neil Blomkamp before they agreed that Kruger would be from their home country, South Africa, and speak with the accent of a very specific area in Johannesburg. Accordingly, Kruger's men are played by fellow South Africans,
Starting point is 00:12:27 Brandon Arendt, who appeared in Blomkamp's movie District 9, and Josh Blacker. They all incorporate numerous Afrikaans slang words into their dialogue, Boat, an informal derivative of brother, Boikki, meaning little boy and lecker, a slang for approval. I noticed that they were using slang that I didn't know, but I thought that was cool. That was cool. John Carlyle wrote the reboot sequence in assembly language. What he is writing is valid code and can.
Starting point is 00:12:57 work. Oh. That's interesting. Okay. Wow. I love that. Oh, okay. This is the first one that I'm like shooketh about. Uh-oh. Eminem was offered the lead role in Elysium, but he turned it down because director Neil Blomkamp would not change its location from Los Angeles to Detroit. I'm sorry, Neil. What were you? I'm glad that you said we're not going to change it for you. M, but you got Matt Damon. I am a little confused that it was him and that he put his foot down. This is coming from IMDB trivia. He wanted it shot in Las in Detroit.
Starting point is 00:13:44 Yeah. Or not shot. It wasn't in Detroit. Like it took place in. Right. Oh, God. I don't know about where shot. That seems ridiculous.
Starting point is 00:13:52 That's hysterical to me. That's kind of that. Alice Braga. let's see she was the main girl oh she's Isabella and Predators did you remember her from that
Starting point is 00:14:06 yes that's who I know she's in that and I think she's in the expendables I am legend and repo man and dark matter that's what I and then murder at the end of the world
Starting point is 00:14:20 she's in a lot of stuff we like her dude we do like her well we love that movie I am curious about rotten tomatoes Let me just look and then we'll get out of here Yeah yeah look it up
Starting point is 00:14:34 Listen Elysium Rotten Tomatoes What do you Let's see Okay so it is fresh 75 It's lower actually It's 64
Starting point is 00:14:45 I feel like that's super unfair This movie's amazing Yeah what's a Why didn't the director love it Why didn't the people love it? Yeah 58% on the popcorn meter What?
Starting point is 00:14:55 Y'all this is not a 58% movie this movie is a fun time better than a fun time, poignant. Yeah. I'm confused. You guys let us know in the comments. Did you like Alisium as much as we do? Or were you screaming at the screen the whole time that you didn't like this movie?
Starting point is 00:15:09 Yeah, tell us. Anything else you want to say, Bib? No, man. All right. Loved it. Much love, reject. See you next time. Bye.
