Tara, will you look up if it's the same actress from the beginning as it is from the end while we start on the, to the left of me? Andrew, how'd you feel about this movie? I enjoyed it. It was definitely gruesome. It was brutal, but I enjoyed the performances from Not Page from Alice. I'll take it. He's so confident. He's like, we've been falling in page for a while. I know, and I was like, Did I say something about fall? I'll just ride with it. We just said Paige. She's got purple hair too and I'm on heavy drugs.

So, you know, I put two and two together. She was right. I'm okay. I'm okay. Paige is absolutely right. Yes, the dead-eyed character to the beginning of evil dead bird who emerges from the lake is Jessica. It's the same girl gets possessed at the end. Interesting. They did not look the same to me.

So I guess that was afterwards. Yeah, the lake must have happened after. There was also a part at the very end. Sorry to shame you. That's okay. There's also a part at the very end of Rise. Remember when they were in the parking garage? And there was a girl who I believe was getting into a red jeep.

She was going on a trip with her friends. That might be a little bit too. But I think these kind of Easter eggs and things that you can notice. I think you might be right on that. That sounds great. Okay. But yeah, just continuing on, I thought the performance from Alice was incredible, especially everything she had to push through her vulnerability, her emotional depth throughout the film,

and just everything she had to continuously battle through her resiliency throughout the film was incredible. The practical effects. I do like that this film, because you were talking about there was a certain scene where you're like, that's like an allegory for depression, which I thought was a great point. I think, too, this film is an allegory for unchecked grief and what can happen if you let it. it go unchecked and I think. And the blame that you start placing, yeah. Sure. And I think that if you choose love and resiliency, that can kind of be, you know, something to fight towards unchecked grief. That's the ultimate, the ultimateizer, if you will, against that. So I did like that message

in this film. And I don't know the word you used. It's the ultimate what? The ultimateizer. I don't know. I just made it up. But. Oh, cool. Yeah. I like to learn new words. I thought I missed a vocab word. It's a new word I just made up. Yeah, I like that. I'm going to use it.

Yeah. But yeah, I did. I like this film a lot. There was, like I said, it was much more brutal and intense than the other ones. The other ones, I like when they dip into a little bit of humor. So that way we balance it out a little bit because I am a scaredy cat. But, you know, the way that this film, I just let us know right away from the tone that we're not going to try to balance too much with the human. there's going to be a slight bit of humor,

but it's going to be more on showing things, like from a violent perspective, not actually through our dialogue. I was like, okay, I know what I'm in for. So, but I'm going to get more from you in a minute, but I want to hear from Paige. How did you feel about this? What's your initial response to the movie?

Yeah, I liked it a lot. I think it was like you were just saying, pretty non-stop ride, which always makes me kind of hats off to editing and pacing of the whole film, really. Like, once we were in, we were not stopping. Definitely did not feel.

feel like two hours to me at all. I wonder if this is the longest of the movies. Yeah, I don't know. You might be right on that. But I think the pacing for that alone, like, that's just excellent. Of course, the practical effects are out of this world, as always. I am a creep and usually start to laugh during that. Yeah, you did.

Where do you think about the plot of this one? I love the, you know, I still have to say, I think it's three, the Jane Levy one, is my favorite plot-wise because they go from a standpoint of we know we're going to be with an addict going through withdrawals in the cabin the whole time. And to me, that was the most realistic of this franchise. Not that it has to be, but that's just something I really appreciate. I appreciate that it's always in a home, too. We've been in the original cabin. We've been in a high-rise apartment. Now we are in a family home again, which I really like. And I also am realizing later on in this franchise, they really start to pull from the family ties stuff, which I think is

really clever. The first few, we were just with friends in the cabin, and there was a lot of, like, feeling bad for your partner and them being vulnerable, and maybe they haven't turned, and so of course you would go help them. But to go from the family standpoint, even more of, like, okay, your mom is possessed, but it's still your mom who's been struggling with dementia for years, so you haven't heard say your name or your husband who's probably abusive, but now you'll make out with his gross bloody mouth. Like, it's, to me, is still very grounded, I guess. Very human.

I feel connected to it. I understand why everybody was doing the things they were doing, even if they were gross and disgusting and killing each other. Tara, it's been a minute since we watched the other ones. How are you feeling just, like, got insing on how this compares? Did you enjoy this one? Did this make you want more of the franchise? Yeah, I love this movie.

I think it's probably one of my top favorites of the Evil Dead. The long shots in this, the cinematography, the fact that we're staying rolling on shots, I don't know how many extra extras they had to have in that long shot at the end where we're focusing on Alice and she's crawling. It was amazing cinematography.

It reminded me to John Wickford where I think about those shots all the time. The practical effects in this movie are outdo most everything. Today in 2026, I have always a bad feeling going into a horror movie that it's going to be constantly filled with a lot of CGI and I'm going to clock it immediately and it's not going to be able to, I'm not going to be able to suspend my belief as well. This movie, it's so grounded in the practical effects and because the script and the actors are good on top of it, to me, Evil Dead Burn is one of the best in the franchise, phenomenal. and I like to call back to the evil force camera move. Cameras load of the ground.

It's going toward you. We only got it once at the beginning when it's coming towards Alice. But that was a really good callback to the very first film. So cool. And the weapons. There's some Easter eggs in here with like the weapons and the blood and obviously the evil force camera,

which I love because we're taking from this amazing franchise, which to me, this adds to evil dead top, top of my list, which I think me and Roxy watched it a while ago that it's sometimes hard for us to remember all of the horror franchises we've done. But Evil Dead Now with this film, that franchise is at the top. It's super consistent is the thing. Like after doing the Nightmare and Elm Street movies and after doing the Friday 13th movies and after doing a lot of different franchises where there's so many movies that are amazing

and so many movies that dip, it's really cool to see franchises like this. And for us, Childs Play franchise that don't, dip. Like they just continue to put out really great films. And yeah, there's not one of them in the bunch that I don't like. I don't know where this would stack for me. It is a kind of simple story. Like we have taken, I don't want to say bigger swings in the franchise, but like we have

had some more plot heavy or character heavy stories. And this one was kind of like easy to fall in love with because we love her. You see that she's abused. We catch up with these characters early on. We see these two couples and they are brothers and they're coming home because one of them has passed. And we don't have all these other characters at the funeral. It's just a family. And we're not dealing with like a lot outside of that.

There wasn't like all of these things that came back into play. Like, will she run the restaurant or what that will look like? So we kept it really tight and small. And then because we did that, we were able to use the budget for sick shots and amazing effects. And so that really worked for me. think it looked great. There were moments where I was wondering if they were going to do something a little bit more, like I think that's why I was grasping at, is she pregnant? Or will somebody from the restaurant come back? Or what does this mean for this and this? Because it was a smaller

story, but I don't think that that's a bad thing. I just think that it left me wondering about the world or even like that moment at the end. She's like, who did that to you? She's like my my ex-husband and it's like you know we always wonder these now what what does life look like now and what do you go back to and you're you said you're going to spend time with your family in France and stuff so yeah I thought it was very good um but there was one percent of me that was thinking there was going to be another layer to this that never came I don't know that that's bad or good that's just kind of like how I experienced the movie um does that anybody did anybody else have those feelings throughout or were you guys like this is

totally sad, itching, scratching my entire itch. If you grew up on these characters, it's time to roll out. I mean, I was pretty satisfied, but I also think that it was one of the more emotional evil deads because of the mom factor. And also when she says, not enough and rips into his face, hell yeah, sign me up forever.

Yeah, okay. I can understand what you're saying. And I have the same sentiments as Tara because of the emotional and physical abuse that she was adhering to with the, well, now she I like that she got to a point in an arc where she finally called him her ex-husband, and as you pointed out, not her late husband. Yeah, not her late husband, rather. So I like that she got to that point. And, yeah, I thought that was pretty fulfilling,

and that served as a good arc for me. So if they would have added another more layer to the character, I would have been fine with it, but I was good with it too. What they showed in the mid in the post-credit scenes, I'm curious if those are the... That's where we're headed, maybe? Yeah, those are the two characters, at least Deadites, that we're going to have in the next film. Is Alice going to be a part?

We're going to see PTSD? Like, we're going to have a, since we're having returning Deadites, are we going to have a returning character? I don't know, just stuff to think about, but I finally realized where he was from. Daredevil season season. Born again. He was the one of the villains. No, I think I recognize him from something else.

So not Wednesday. Yeah, Wednesday. That's what it is. From Wednesday. I haven't seen Wednesday, so that's why. The whole time I was like, I know that this is a TV guy. And Daredevil, yes, but Wednesday, I should have been able to clock that.

Because I was like, I definitely kind of recognize him, the main dude. And then I also felt like I recognized our main girl. Alice. No, sorry, not our main girl, Alice. The other girl, the girlfriend. I actually don't even see. Yeah, Thea. I don't know.

Is that? Yeah. I guess that's her. Oh, yeah, that's her. Sorry, the picture is in black and white. So I didn't. Oh, from the night. Night Agent. Okay. Yeah, I really like that show. She's also on Chief of War, which I watched. Yeah. I love, they pull in TV actors to this franchise a decent amount, and that's my jam. It must be so much fun as an actor when you're, you know, playing your normal character and then you get all the makeup of the deadites. Right. You get to do it. I had that thought for her. I was like, I was almost like, I wonder if she is a stunt girl that got her big break because she had so much cool stuff, really. She had some really awesome physical things.

Our main girl was in Dune part two. Oh, is she? Interesting. Who was she in Dune? Where is it? She shock. She shocky? I will have to look that up.

Okay. I feel like that's something you should know. I should have known. Was there any specific camera shot or practical effect where you guys were like, oh my God, beyond gross or that shot. Holy. The drone shot. The ear, man for gross.

Oh, yeah. The ear punctures. I'm with you in the ocean. The dentures. I love the dentures. Paige is over there We'd set to highlight of her life laughing all the way through

Paige you're sick and twisted though I'm in agreement with you on both those shots but I think cinematography-wise that drone shot where we were coming near the car and then going out that was very cool in the car crash yeah how do you guys feel like this ranked

with the other ones in terms of like I'm looking up on rotten tomatoes right now I'm curious where if people I didn't hear much about this movie from people have you guys been hearing from people that was very good. I heard that it was incredibly graphic, which it definitely lived up to.

Okay, sure. Evil Dead 2 got the, oh, wow, Evil Dead Rise got the... So Evil Dead 2 has 88%. Evil Dead Rise at 85. The Evil Dead at 85. Evil Dead at Burn, 71. Okay, so this is the closest. Oh, this even goes into the series.

Army of Darkness at 68. Evil Dead. The 2013 guys. The 63. So they all have. They're all fresh. Yeah, yeah, and I get why. I mean, I think it would be crazy to watch this movie and not say that it was good.

Yeah, and it's got a high one. Yeah, 71%. That's kind of exactly where I think that I would, I might put it a little higher than that. Yeah, I'm closer to the audience, the popcorn meter, which is 74. That makes perfect sense to me. Well, I'm curious, what did the rise? What did the audience give rise? Okay, let me do some.

I really like rice. I like rice a lot, too. It was the first time we were out of the cabin, too. That rise was so good. But the tomato meter on that is an 85 and the popcorn meter is 76. So do you guys want to hit a little bit of trivia? Sure. Yeah.

Let's see what we got. Tara, I think you're a trivia reader for the day. First one's going to be about the teeth. Let's do it. Evil Dead creator Sam Ramey selected Sebastian Vanisak as director. I don't know if I'm saying that name right. Please forgive me. If I'm not as director being impressed with his work on infested,

Vanis XX stated his intention the film was to create a visceral sensory experience. that punches the audience in the gut. I want people to feel physically drain when they leave the theater. Like they've been through an emotional, intense journey. He so did that. That's exactly how I feel. Like, the other ones didn't feel as much like I walked out being like, uh-huh. Totally.

Torturous. Speaking of visceral, I mean, Sam Ramey's the guy in Drag Me to Hell with the Cat. He recreated that shot with the dog. Thank you, Sam Ramey. Oh, God. I hate that. But I'm glad that same Ramey's the guy. you know basically pan picked him i would love to watch him infested um it says that a picture

of bruce campbell which i don't think any of us saw along the family pictures going up the stairs he was in a in a 19703 oldsmobile yeah um and which has appeared in many of sam ramy's films i'm bummed that i didn't clock that me too i was looking everywhere must have not looked hard enough i wonder if there's any spoiler ones this is impossible to do well it's on my lap let's see how we do okay can you click that? All right. So director Sebastian said he was forced to trim a brutally graphic scene. Wow.

Or the deadite. Thea gets her head brutally crushed by dishwasher door to avoid receiving an NC17 rating and to secure an R rating for the theaters. Vanisag described the deleted footage as a really, really hard scene to watch. As he explained, the scene was way longer than that. I had more close subs. And it was even more intense than that, but nobody will notice because this scene is pretty horrible in the movie right now.

In the first cut, I had something like, 35 hits in the head and close up. And it was a very long and silent. And so that's why the censorship was like, oh, that's a bit too much. Well, I do think it's really interesting because brothers that are raised by this father, this father clearly they were implying that he's abusive. And we know that the one brother was extremely abusive, hence the scar and the boiling and the head budding.

And then we watched this other brother who couldn't even kill his dad when his dad was killing his girlfriend and we called him like oh he has a gun but he would never be brave enough or whatever but then we watch what he does in that moment which of course is not abuse with the washing machine but it's just like it was clearly

something was inside of him and like from childhood it feels like that totally didn't want to let out well and to speak to like how generational abuse works too like you could do it to this woman and not to your dad yeah yeah yeah totally totally

The special effect right here where they're saying from Lucian Buchanan with the head, the car thing, it took weeks to make that. The rods were made out of paper straws. They were sprayed with metallic paint, which I think is wild and very, very fascinating. She had magnet in her mouth and on her tongue to keep it there so that they could, which is super freaking cool. By the way, my favorite scene probably in this movie, that car scene. The airbag going off, all the use of the seatbelt. Yeah. So what are the standout?

That was a really good one for me. The car scene is your number of years. And I always appreciate something that's done in daylight and still is that effective. There's also nice to get out of the house for a second. Yeah, totally. It was very cool to watch that. And I felt very claustrophobic in that and very stuck for sure. Honestly, I'm going to go to the very beginning on the boat with the way the practical effects just set the tone for the film.

I thought that was really. The boat was, I mean, with the fishing line around his face too. That was so creative. Yeah. That was really good. If we're talking, I mean, the one-earth shot is going to be my favorite. I'm like, that's just amazing cinematography in a horror. You don't normally see it.

But for kills, Jack Hammer's fun. It did say in the trivia, it's the first time they didn't use a chainsaw, which I think that's cool. But there was a different, I said creative kill like three times in this movie. And I can't. Oh, the grandma gets a friggin, shard a glass of the eye. and then he's going down the stairs in the chair. That was great. That was great.

That was awesome. With a frame around her neck even too. Yeah. So good. Did you guys see that trivia about, uh, was it Alyssa Sutherland? No. From Rise? Nobody knew about it.

Yeah, it said it was kept completely under wraps and nobody would know for the stinger. That's amazing. Um, does, do you guys think that that means that's the direction that the franchise is heading in? I would like to think so. It's why I put that sting. her in there with her and then and also the grandma and the mid credits if we're just gonna totally not. Because it's cool.

I mean, it is cool for sure, but I mean, I think that'd be a fun direction for sure to go on to. She did die at the end of rise, correct? Isn't it at the on? Is anybody really ever dead? Right, but that's what I'm saying, maybe the next one we're going to go

revisit all of our dead characters. Yeah, yeah. Because we jump around in time. Like, I thought that the boat thing was before, but It was after, so I guess we don't know when or where. And I don't even remember during this. Did you guys see anybody use cell phones or any kind of technology? Like, do we have any sense of when this one was? We don't really.

Oh, you're right. Yeah, so kind of intrigued by that. Because we never saw really a TV, but we are noting the TV stuff. The one that broke, when it broke, I said, reminds me a smile. You're right, you're right. Playing the home video. And we were noting that stuff in the attic was old, which is from back the day. So, yeah, I don't know.

Any final thoughts on Evil Dead Burns? I'm freaking loved it. I'm still going to go with like the OG Evil Dead. Yes, sign me up. But this one to me, I'm still like, wait, what? It only got 71% from the critics, 74 from audience. I really enjoyed it. And I'm like, for the cinematography and the practical effects,

like please keep making movies like this because I know that it's going to be, it's sort of a dead craft where they're just going to, I mean, the movies use too much CGI. I'm just really happy that we have this movie in today's day and age, and I hope that they keep making him this way. Yeah. I really enjoyed it from the practical effects of cinematography, the allegory of depression, of unchecked grief,

how that can build up and boil up in between you, and also just abuse as well as generational abuse. I mean, these are awful things. And I thought that was hidden within a well-placed, and well-crafted horror film, and there was a lot of scares. Really good stuff for the cinematography. All really good. Really enjoyed this one a lot.

Agreed. Nothing I didn't like for sure. Again, an hour, two-hour-long movie, two-hour-long horror movie that I was fully, fully present for the entire time. Impressive. I completely agree with what everything, everything everybody said. The last thing I will say is, if you are a she-ject, the word is ear drum. I won't be explaining myself, but that's the word. Do with that what you will.
