THE CLASSIC UPDATE OF SHAKESPEARE'S TAMING OF THE SHREW!! 10 Things I Hate About You Full Reaction Watch Along:   / thereelrejects   Gift Someone (Or Yourself) A Stranger Things RR Tee!... https://shorturl.at/hekk2 Vecna: The Mind Slayer tee by @G9DESIGN & Dr. Stranger Things tee by @SASAMIIKU — perfect for hardcore fans & collectors alike Greg & Aaron trip the light ROMANTIC as they reunite for a 10 Things I Hate About You Reaction, Recap, Analysis, Breakdown, & Spoiler Review! Aaron Alexander & Gregory Alba dive into the sharp, romantic, endlessly quotable teen classic that helped define a generation of 90s/early-2000s cinema. Join Aaron & Greg as they revisit Gil Junger’s modern retelling of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, starring Heath Ledger (The Dark Knight, A Knight’s Tale) in his breakout role as the rebellious and charming Patrick Verona, and Julia Stiles (Save the Last Dance, Dexter) as fiercely independent Kat Stratford. The film also features Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception, Looper) as Cameron, Larisa Oleynik (The Secret World of Alex Mack) as Bianca, and David Krumholtz (The Santa Clause, Numb3rs) and Allison Janney (I, Tonya, The West Wing) in unforgettable supporting roles. Aaron & Greg break down the film’s most iconic and beloved moments: Patrick’s legendary “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” serenade on the bleachers, Kat’s emotional reading of the poem that gives the movie its name, Bianca punching Joey Donner in the face, Cameron’s sweet-but-awkward attempts to win Bianca’s heart, and the Stratford family’s hilariously strict house rules. They explore how the film blends whip-smart humor, heartfelt coming-of-age storytelling, and timeless themes of trust, identity, and self-expression — all wrapped in peak 90s energy and one of the greatest high-school soundtracks of all time. Starting point is 00:00:00 It started with a scream inside a quiet Maryland home, a mother trying to protect the family dog and her son in the grip of a violent hallucinogenic rage. By the time it was over, she was dead, and he claimed LSD made him do it. His name, David Minor the 4th, and we talked to him. Listen to Invisible Choir every other week as we uncover the most haunting true crimes you've never heard of, available wherever you get your podcasts. What is happening there? Citizens of the Reject Nation, we are here to contribute to the minefield of reactions to 10 things I hate about you specifically.
Starting point is 00:00:54 You, if you were. Aaron, there are hundreds of things I hate about you. sucks you know what i don't hate about you what is that your honesty i want to ask how you're feeling today how are you feeling weird loaded question considering i just learned what happened uh just be honest i'm a little bit in a shock i found out uh someone i used to be a football team with uh is no longer with us sad circumstances and yeah i'm still processing that got some other news about something else has happened so yeah i think i'm in the mood for comedy today to get my head out of the immediacy
Starting point is 00:01:31 of the things I've discovered today that happened within the life of me and the people affected by that those things. But yeah, other than that, okay, how are you? A little speed racy thoughts. It's a little,
Starting point is 00:01:50 I had a moment with Aaron and goes over there. What did you say? I forgot. Oh, I got it was a whole thing that they didn't even say anything. It was something completely unrelated. It was like, I had a thought, and I thought he said something about it, but my mind just zigzagging a lot. So I could use this moment to slow down and sit here.
Starting point is 00:02:08 But the movie that people really love, I haven't seen it. Yeah, I saw it in middle school. Funny enough, I have more nostalgia for a TV show that came out. There's a TV show about this? Yeah, there's a TV show. They made a TV remake, so to speak, on ABC Family, that came out in, like, the mid-2000s, like 2008. So I have a lot of fondness for that show.
Starting point is 00:02:28 I've not watched that in many years. And I was like, there's a movie? So around the same time I watched it. But, yeah, I've not seen it since. I'm really excited to watch it, especially for you guys. And as an adult, to see how it hits me now. All right. Well, I'm excited to learn about it.
Starting point is 00:02:40 Here it's based on Shakespeare. I also heard that. Yeah, Coy reminded me in that right before we started filming. So I'm curious to see how that plays true and see if I know to play well if I've seen. You know which one? Taming of the Shrew. Oh, yeah. I don't know anything about that.
Starting point is 00:02:58 Yeah. Don't ask me a single thing about a Shakespeare book. I will not say, my days of pretending or attempting to be smart are far behind me. Poor actors should have more Shakespeare. Ah, who cares? Boring. Quentin Tarantino's dialogue is more interesting, right, guys?

These delusionals are your white rosters. They're big Marley fans.
Starting point is 00:06:28 They think they're black. That's great. These guys, wait, let me guess. Cowboys. Yeah, but the closest they've come to a cow is Big Donald's. Is this what 21 Jump Street is referencing? I mean, a lot of, like, high school and college movies do this. Poggy Lowenstein started a rumor that I buy my eyes out to an outlet mall.
Starting point is 00:06:50 So they kicked you out? Pustle Takeo. But don't worry. He'll pay. Now over here. The girl of history. Ooh-lal-la-la. There's the wind flowing and everything.
Starting point is 00:07:05 Does that Gabriel Union there? I burn. I pine. I perish. Of course you do. Shakespeare. There's a difference between like and love. Because I like my sketches, but I love my proud of backpack. Damn. Forget her, incredibly uptight father, and it's a widely known fact that the Stratford sisters aren't allowed to date.
Starting point is 00:07:26 Yeah. Whatever. I never went to high school, so I don't know how incredibly hiding all this is, but I imagine it is... He's so romantic. Romantic? Hemingway? He was an abusive alcoholic misogynist who squandered half his life hanging around Picasso trying to nail his leftovers. Liberals. As opposed to a bitter, self-righteous hag who has no friends?
Starting point is 00:07:50 Nice, bro. guess in this society being male and an asshole makes you worthy of our time oh what a miss the oppressive patriarchal values that dictate our education good hey hey is there any chance we could get cat to take her might all before she comes to class wow someday you're gonna get bitch slapped and i'm not gonna do a thing to stop it okay i want to thank you for your point of view i know how difficult it must be for you to to overcome all those years of upper middle class of bourbon appraisal. But the next time you storm the PTA, crusading for better lunch meter,
Starting point is 00:08:27 or whatever it is you white girls complain about. Ask them why they can't buy a book written by black men. Oh, no. Expressing my opinion is not a terrorist action. The way you expressed your opinion to Bobby Ridgeway? By the way, his treval operation went quite well. I still maintain that he kicked himself. People perceive you as somewhat tempestuous.
Starting point is 00:08:47 Hainous bitch is the term used most often. teachers employed the way they talk to students you might want to work on that as always thank you for your excellent guidance looking good ladies see he oh she's out of reach even for you no one's out of reach for me you want to put money on that he's got gorgeous here yeah yeah this is gonna do for fun yeah i'm suave have good hair at least he's got a token Latino friend instead of a token black friend She smiles And look at her eyes, man
Starting point is 00:09:21 She's totally pure You're missing what's there Aw, you're a dude out of time Guys like Joey Realize that they want to She my friend is what we will spend The rest of our lives Not happy. Put her in your spank bank
Starting point is 00:09:35 Move on Don't impose your beliefs You're wrong I'm wrong You want to take your shot Be my guest She's actually looking for a Are you serious?
Starting point is 00:09:45 Wenzay Adams' boyfriend in the second movie. Do you speak French? Well, no, but I will. Oh, that's what that is. Yeah, he's been like, he was just an Oppenheimer, too. Oh, snap. Oh, no. Hey, ladies.
Starting point is 00:09:58 Then we can bro. Would you, uh, sweet young things like a rap? Oh, no. It's your virgin brain. Oh, love. Stay pure, girl. that's a charming new development it's disgusting
Starting point is 00:10:15 the move head from sphincter then drive Julia Stiles' character is totally my kind of woman you okay yeah just a minor encounter with the shrew that's your girlfriend's sister you gotta tame that shrew
Starting point is 00:10:28 stay cool bro oh my god dude oh my god what just happened your poor friend Okay, you're doing it. You're doing well.
Starting point is 00:10:44 Those are real stunts they're doing. That's gnarly. Okay. You almost had it. I've got a lot worse for you. That was a genuine surprise. If this was today, all the kids would have their phones out. Good for you, man.
Starting point is 00:11:00 Ah, that's cool. That sounds great. That is the way to handle that. Hello, Katerina. Make anyone cry today? You speak like a wealthy man. Sadly, no. but it's only 4.30.
Starting point is 00:11:14 Hi, Daddy. Oh, their sisters. And where have you been? Yeah, they said that earlier. It said the sister of the shrew. The shrew sister, just whatever. Pay attention to dialogue. I got in.
Starting point is 00:11:25 Honey, that's great, but isn't Sarah Lawrence on the other side of the country? Thus the basis of its appeal. I was going to miss her. I thought we decided you were going to stay here and go to school. You dub like me. Be a husky. Er. No, you decided.
Starting point is 00:11:40 Okay, so what? You just pick up and leave. Goddamn patriarchal system. Now don't get upset, Daddy, but there's this boy. Who's a flaming imbecile? Please, I think I know what he's going to ask you. And I think I know the answer. No, it's always no.
Starting point is 00:11:53 Always no. No dating till you graduate. Number two, no dating till you graduate. This morning, I delivered a set of twins to a 15-year-old girl. Do you know what she said to me? I'm a... I should have made my skeezy boyfriend wear a condom. Damn.
Starting point is 00:12:08 Close. No. Huh. Huh. Listened to my father. She did not. Well, that's what she would have said if she wasn't so doped up. Correct.
Starting point is 00:12:18 Your sister doesn't date. And I don't intend to. And why is that again? Have you seen the unwashed miscreants that go to that school? Okay, here's how we solve this one. Dad Jalooley, Stiles. Outspoken, liberal. That's how the guy who put me in my place every second of the day.
Starting point is 00:12:37 New rule. Bianca can date when she does. But she's a meat. What if she never dates? Then you'll never date. Oh, I like that. Daddy. Can't you find some blind after
Starting point is 00:12:49 take you to the movie so I can have one date? Whoa. 1999, baby. Couldn't with this quick? Roxanne, Corinna, and Andrew Jarrett are having an incredibly her and his public breakup on the quad.
Starting point is 00:13:00 Again. Why are you sitting there? Okay, I thought that we'd start with pronunciation if that's all right with you. Oh, two to ring. Not the hacking and gagging and spitting part, please.
Starting point is 00:13:11 Uh-huh. Well, there is an alternative. There is? Yeah, uh, French food. We could, uh, eat some together, uh, Saturday night. Oh, this is so embarrassing. You're asking me out? That's so cute.
Starting point is 00:13:23 Oh, my inner grins. Listen, I know that your dad doesn't let you date, but I thought that if it was for French class, that... Oh, wait a minute. Curtis. Cameron. Damn. My dad just came up with a new rule.
Starting point is 00:13:36 I can date when my sister does. My sister's a particularly hideous breed of loser. No. But there are lots of guys. Guys, I wouldn't mind going out. It's a difficult woman. You think you could find someone that extreme? Yeah, sure.
Starting point is 00:13:48 Why not? Oh, dude, you're being used. Would any of you be interested in dating, Catarina Stratford? Hmm? I love that. I like that. I love this.
Starting point is 00:14:00 Maybe if we were the last two people alive, and there were no sheep. Are there sheep? Ah! There's a surreal absurdity to it all. Did I or did I not tell? you it was pointless no one will go out with her i would what the hell and what about him him no don't don't look at him okay he's a criminal i heard he lit a state trooper on fire oh my god
Starting point is 00:14:28 he sold his own liver on the black market for a new set of speakers that cannot be true Wow, the punk kid put it out That's crazy Oh my god I mean we could pay them Do we don't have any money Yeah well what we need is a backer What's that?
Starting point is 00:14:57 Someone with money who's stupid Somebody we can manipulate Actually, I thought that I'd run an idea by you just to see if you're interested I'm not hear me out now you Oh no But uh she can't go out with you because her sister is this insane head case and no one will go out with her, right? Oh no You need to hire a guy who'll go out with her someone who doesn't scare so easily
Starting point is 00:15:24 That guy? I heard he ate a live duck once everything but the beak and feet What's in it for you? I'm walking down the hall and I say hello to you you say hello to me Yeah, yeah, I get it. You're cool by association. I'll think about it. What a wild con. I have a dick on my face, don't I? That you do, my friend. You see that girl? Yeah. That's Cat Stratford. I want you to go out with her.
Starting point is 00:15:52 Sure, Sparky. Not my problem. Would you be willing to make you your problem if I provide generous compensation? You're going to pay me to take out some check. I want you. back then that's a lot of money 50 bucks and we got a deal fabio but she have to successfully get her to agree to go out hey there girlie oh no that's the approach sweating like a pig actually in yourself now there's a way to get a guy's
Starting point is 00:16:20 attention huh do you even know my name screw boy no a lot more than you think hmm very doubtful you thought it was gonna be easy no no he's got earned that 50 Have you ever considered a new look? I mean, seriously, you could have some definite potential buried under all this hostility. I'm not hostile. I'm annoyed. You forget, I don't care what people think. Yes, you do. No, I don't.
Starting point is 00:16:44 I really don't think she does care. You don't always have to be who they want you to be, you know? I haven't to like being adored, thank you. Where'd you get the pearls? Yeah, you look for validation. Their mom's. And you've been what, hiding them for three years? No, Daddy found them in a drawer last week.
Starting point is 00:16:59 Oh, is that why she's distant? his mom died. Start wearing them now? It's not like she's coming back to claim them. Damn. They look good on me. Trust me, they don't. Nice ride.
Starting point is 00:17:09 Vintage Fenders. Are you following me? Stocking. That's the way to go about it. You're not afraid of me, are you? Afraid of you. Why would I be afraid of you? Well, most people are.
Starting point is 00:17:17 Well, I'm not. Well, maybe you're not afraid of me, but I'm sure you've thought about me naked, huh? I want you. I need you. Oh, baby, oh, baby. I really like their chemistry. Oh, he's just blocking her in. Oh.
Starting point is 00:17:33 What is it, asshole day? You lies? Yeah. Oh, you're gonna do it? Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:17:44 Oh, hey. Bitch. Damn. Whoops. Whoops. Whoops. My insurance does not cover PMS. Well, then tell them I had a seizure.
Starting point is 00:17:57 This is about Sarah Lawrence. Are you punishing me because I want you to stay close to home? Why'd she leave? I'm your father, that's my right. So what I want doesn't matter. You're 18, you don't know what you want until you're 45, and even if you get it, you'll be too old to use it. I want you to trust me to make my own choices,
Starting point is 00:18:16 and I want you to stop trying to control my life just because you can't control yours. Oh yeah, well, you know what I want? She had a line, but she's right. Did you just maim Joey's car? Yeah, it looks like you're gonna have to take the bus. As the fact that you're completely psycho managed to escape your... attention i'm totally on julia style's side i just thought my price wow hundred bucks a date in advance forget it we'll forget her sister then the man is mad thirsty
Starting point is 00:18:41 hope you're smooth as you think you are verona very curious to know how accurate this is to the actual shakespeare play i'm pretty sure shakespeare's play did take place in a high school back then i've a culturally diverse high school too right but this is like i see the like machinations of a i forgot the term of her like shakespeare comedy but it usually is a big ensemble with a crazy domino effect like this my man cameron here has a major jones for bianca strath what is it with this chick she have beer flavor hey i what a statement look i'm in on this for the cash donna comply wherever he wants there will be no plowing patrick uh patrick he is a magnetic performer i can't keep my eyes off him boge lowenstein is having a party
Starting point is 00:19:30 it's the perfect opportunity for what for you to take out Pat I'll think about it it's so wild his voice kind of reminds me of Chris Hemsworth a little bit yeah
Starting point is 00:19:41 and to think that he did the voice like the Joker is mind blowing oh dude that's an inaccurate statement wow what a shit Shy! That's awesome.
Starting point is 00:20:03 Damn, how many levels is this school? Clearly a massive high school. Kind of looks like a stylized like a castle in a way when you saw the exterior. And I really, really, really want to go. But you know, I can't. Not unless my sister does. Yeah, I know. I'm working on that.
Starting point is 00:20:18 But so far, you know, she's not going for my guy. Whoa, what a set is this? That's crazy. I found a picture of Jared Leto in a drawer once, so I'm pretty sure she's not harboring same-sex tendons. Roletta who would also one day become the Joker. You're asking me to investigate
Starting point is 00:20:36 the inner workings of my sister's twisted mind. We need to go behind enemy lines here. Class schedule, reading list, date book. Oh man, this is just a story of everyone using each other. Black panties. What does that tell us? She wants to have sex Sunday, that's what.
Starting point is 00:20:52 She could just like the color. My wife is black lingerie to work. She's been working later. I love this one question before we start Should you be drinking alcohol When you don't have a liver What? Nothing
Starting point is 00:21:08 I love this running joke Of all the rumors about him So you're telling me I'm a non-smoker Yes But just for now Cat likes pretty guys He's pretty
Starting point is 00:21:21 Pretty pretty Look at him in his luscious locks Are you telling me I'm not a pretty guy I just wasn't sure I didn't know You're a gorgeous guy There's a list of CDs So I'm supposed to buy her some noodles
Starting point is 00:21:44 And a book and sit around listening to Chix who can't play their instruments, right? She has a pair of black underwear If that helps You're so weird, dude Whoa. Yeah, now we're back around following him. Yeah, I don't know a lot of 90s bands, or at least smaller ones. Oh, he's genuinely smiling.
Starting point is 00:22:17 Look at him, he's a little smitten. She goes right to him. If you're planning on asking me out again, you might as well just get it all. just get it out of you mind you kind of ruining this for me ah surrounded by your usual plant of smoke I know I quit you know these guys are no bikini kill all the brain coats

Starting point is 00:23:46 of your decisions would like to be pregnant every time you even think about kissing a boy I want you to picture under your halter top you are so completely unbalanced Is that a real thing? I've never seen that before.
Starting point is 00:24:03 No drugs, no kissing, no tattoos, no piercings, no ritual animal slaughters of any kind. What are you doing here? 9.30, right? Oh, looking fly. Whatever, I'm driving. You knocked up your sister. That's great. Sweet.
Starting point is 00:24:26 Looking fresh tonight. Ew. Is that? Did your hairline just received? Your sister? Look how big that, dude. I'll stay away from your sister. We're in 90s.
Starting point is 00:24:40 But I can't guarantee she'll stay away from me. Boy! Who invited Mr. Beast? You guys, please, take it on tight! Oh! Yeah, look who found me. He's chained her, like, property, like a trophy. There's something I need to tell you.
Starting point is 00:24:58 Look, I am busy and joel. Dude, she's here for you. Quit being a bitch. I've been looking all over the place for you. I'm getting trashed, man. Isn't that what you're supposed to do at a party? I don't know. I say, do what you want to do.
Starting point is 00:25:11 Funny. You're the only one. Oh, man. He's actually caring about her. No. No, yeeks. So, you really look amazing. Oh, that sounds so real.
Starting point is 00:25:29 Oh, he was really nervous there. Yeah, after, let's go. We're all congregating around Mr. Cuerva. Um, I'll see your own, okay? Oh, that's sad. Oh, no. Oh, dude. I can see an alternate universe where he is the,

Hey, Cat, why don't you let me have this one, huh? No, this one's mine. Gratitude is the right attitude. Oh, oh. Oh, no, whoa, whoa, whoa.

Starting point is 00:27:28 Cameron, I'm a little busy right now. Can you give me a second? He really cares about her. Pull things up. What are you talking about? She never wanted me. She wanted Joey the whole time. Cameron, do you like the girl?
Starting point is 00:27:39 Yeah. And is she worth all this trouble. Joey is not half the man you are. Secondly, don't let anyone ever make you feel like you don't deserve what you want. I love this fucking guy. Who is this guy? Snaps, man. It's kind of wild.
Starting point is 00:27:58 I know that I have this movie in my database that I watch it, but I don't remember anything about it. So why'd you let him get you? Who? Joey. I hate him. Well, you've chosen the perfect revenge. Mainlining tequila.
Starting point is 00:28:11 Listen to me, cat. Open your eyes. Oh, no. You better return the money, dude. Your eyes have a little green in them. Oh. Cute. Oh.
Starting point is 00:28:26 Where is? I did not see any pute come out, but I felt it. Aw, I'm petting her hair. A bunch of us are going to Jarrett's. Ready? I have to be home in 20 minutes. Well, you know, I don't have to be home until two. So.
Starting point is 00:28:43 Wow. That's crazy work for her friend to do that. Do you want to go? Sure. At Chastity. Hey. Wow, what a bad friend. What a terrible, terrible friend.
Starting point is 00:28:53 Hey, you got a fun tonight? I guess it worked out. Hey, Cameron, um, do you think you could give me a ride home? I'm not throwing away my shot. You don't strike me as the type that would ask your father for permission. Oh, so now you think you know me? I'm getting there. The only thing people know about me is that I'm scary.
Starting point is 00:29:12 Yeah, that's what they say about him. No offense or anything. I mean, I know everyone digs your sister, but she's without. Without? You know, you're not as vile as I thought you were. Too smart. Oh. Oh, good man. Good man. Good man. Oh, no. She won't want to be a little resentful. She feels rejected.
Starting point is 00:29:38 It's like, what the hell? He would chase me all this time and I'm going to kiss me? It's not about that. It's about the principal. 90% of my kisses were with the girls who were drunk. It's completely sober. You never wanted to go sailing with me, did you? Yes, I did. Eh. No, you didn't. Like this parallel word drawing. Okay, no, not actually.
Starting point is 00:30:04 Well, then that's all you had to say. Have you always been this selfish? Damn. Damn, reality checks all the round. You know, just because you're beautiful, that doesn't mean that you can treat people like they don't matter. Finally learned that lesson last year. I learned French for you, and then you should blow me off so you can...
Starting point is 00:30:20 Oh, ho, ho, ho. Oh, yeah. She's not a drink. oh just how is it you don't know it's real
Starting point is 00:30:35 she could have felt emotionally manipulated oh yeah got to do like a fist pump or something and I'm back in the game there's another version of this movie where he gets indoctrated into the red pill society back in the game
Starting point is 00:30:56 fellow reject Greg from an Alternate timeline is here to let you know that we have launched three new Stranger Think shirts in honor of the final season. First one up, universal inspired monster poster of Vecna. This is from our friend Janine. I came up with this idea a long time ago. I love those classic universal monster posters. I'm just so happy to see this brought to life.
Starting point is 00:31:16 I'm going to get a printout of this. The second one up that we have here is from the mind of Aaron Alexander from the artist, Sammy, who we worked with plenty of times, Dr. Stranger Things. Need I say more? Come on. How come no one's come up with this yet? And the third one, I'm wearing it right now. Reject things.
Starting point is 00:31:30 Thanks, Alex, for coming up with it. And thanks, Andrew, for snagging my size. And, of course, we have our classic ones up there as well. We have a ton to peruse through. Anyone you buy is an amazing way to support everyone here who works in front and behind the camera. You can scan this barcode right here on screen. If you're interested, go to the link in the description box and pin comment. If you end up not buying one, that's a okay.
Starting point is 00:31:50 I'm just glad they exist so now I can be wearing them. Let's get back to the video, people. Let's open up our books to page 73. Sonnet 141 and listen up Shakespeare For Dan thee a thousand errors no But tears my heart That loves what they despise
Starting point is 00:32:04 Who in despise the viewers Please the dope I don't more teachers rap I want you all to write Your own version of this sonnet Yes miss I have an opinion About everything Do you want this a niambic pentameter
Starting point is 00:32:16 You're not gonna fight me on this No I think it's a really good assignment You just mess with me aren't you No I'm really looking forward to writing it Get out of my class Out get out! I just can't pull it. It's so funny.
Starting point is 00:32:37 Wow. How the tables have turned. What do you care? I thought you wanted out. Yeah, well, I did, but that was until she kissed me. Where? In the car. Oh, my God, this guy.
Starting point is 00:32:53 Well, you don't know. She could need a day to cool off. oh hello it's really impressive how much story they're able to tell in different dynamics in like a little over an hour can you even imagine who the hell would go to that hand to played his mating ritual without it feeling rust or anything you're concentrating awfully hard considering it's gym class oh I want to talk to you about who did she hit oh look you know the deal I can't go Your sister is going. Since when? Oh, let's just say I'm taking care of it.
Starting point is 00:33:30 ROTC in the background. You, uh, you sick of, let's say, 300? Oh, dude. Damn, no, she's going to find out. It's going to be so bad for you. It's doing a really great job, though, of like, the way the characters are opening up the doors of exploration, of, different transitions in their lives like having bad consequences but for exploring the arts or going to parties for being active in class after the rejection and then just
Starting point is 00:34:05 for Gordon Levitt's characters find like the flip out he found the love like some of these beats would happen in the finale but for them to happen at the midpoint is kind of unusual yeah no the the flipping of the dynamics and how everything has changed is yeah it's really well done really well handled later in a movie and then they'd wrap it up in a finale but it's given time for the characters to truly evolve you're just too good to be true can't take my eyes off of you oh what a gesture oh that's great Is that his actual voice? I hope so. This guy should have been the Rizzler.
Starting point is 00:35:06 Is that a guy, and if it's more all right, I need you, baby. To one alone and I love you, baby. Is that a police officer for security? security guard on campus this is awesome I thought for sure I was busted when I was glaring out of that window I tell you, so how did you keep him distracted
Starting point is 00:35:35 I dazzled him with my wits so what's your excuse for acting the way we did you ever done this? Uh yeah Bubbao Park a lot more exhausting than it looks pretty fun they have like swans there we're very curious to know where this is
Starting point is 00:35:51 so you're disappointed from the start and then you've covered right something like that then you screwed up you never disappointed me oh you got a level with her man you on this brother up for what you didn't get out of the boat aren't you oh no pain ball everyone paintballing yeah yeah many years here like well over a decade ago never done it it looks he was painful i mean This version looks fun. This does look fun. Water balloon paintball, yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:27 I prefer this over the gun one. The gun one's so painful. Yeah. This is why I don't understand why people do it. It's not enjoyable at all. No, you didn't tell her the truth. The only surprise. Oh, dude, you didn't tell her the truth.
Starting point is 00:36:56 I wonder if him and Julia Stiles hooked up in real life. I wouldn't be surprised, like, the camera's on point. Was that all in one shot? I'm not tripping? Like, kissed her than they got up, pulled back and played more? It took six weeks to get that done. Oh, that choreography. State trooper.
Starting point is 00:37:13 Fallacy. A dead guy in the pocket. Rumor, the duck. Here's safe. I'll be rude choice. Fact. But he deserved it. He tried to me in the lunch line.
Starting point is 00:37:21 Fair enough. The exit. it's real i uh lived in australian until i was 10 okay american god damn it erin this whole movie i've been fucking confused like is he sucking at this accent i'm happy they clarified that
Starting point is 00:37:35 tell me something true something true that's your chance i hate peace the same dude something real something no one else knows okay you're sweet and sexy
Starting point is 00:37:47 you're avoiding completely helpful me you are amazingly self-assure does anyone ever told you that i tell myself that every day actually go to the problem with me is that a request or it come on go with me no why not because it's a stupid tradition come on people won't expect you to go why are you pushing this who what's in it for you oh no no so now i need to have a motive to want to be with you oh he's deflecting
Starting point is 00:38:16 you need therapy you know that has i never told you that jeez answer the question Patrick really ask nothing there is nothing in it for me
Starting point is 00:38:24 just the pleasure of your company okay lies oh now you're broken so who is
Starting point is 00:38:34 so wrapped up I forgot about them let's talk to demand a question Cameron how me demand
Starting point is 00:38:42 you to to sort with you what oh I think she learned The truth. I'd like to discuss tomorrow night with you.
Starting point is 00:38:51 Now, as you know, it's the prom. Damn. What the fuck did you just burn? How did she do this? I don't know. She did a clash out. Happens at proms? Yes, Daddy, we'll dance, we'll kiss, we'll come home.
Starting point is 00:39:06 It's not quite the crisis situation I imagine. Don't just make her wear the pregnancy suit again. I'm down. I've got the 4-1-1, and you are not going out and getting jiggy with some boy. I don't care how dope his right is. Why can't she get jiggie? You know, I'm the only sophomore that got asked to go to the prom, and I can't go because you don't feel like it. Joey never told you that we went out, did he?
Starting point is 00:39:27 Oh. In ninth for a month. Why? Because he was like such a babe. But you hate Joey. Now I do. So what happened? Oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:39:40 Damn. Right after Mom left. Everyone was doing it, so I did it. Afterwards, I told him I didn't want him anymore because I wasn't ready. and he got pissed and he dumped me What a brick After that I swore I would never do anything Just because everyone else was doing it
Starting point is 00:39:55 And I haven't since Oh, that was the incident, huh? How is it possible that I did not know about this? What a twist. I warned him that if he told anyone The cheerleading squad would find out how tiny his dick is Huh Why did you help Daddy hold me hostage?
Starting point is 00:40:09 I guess I thought I was protecting you By not letting me experience anything for myself Not all experiences are good, Bianca Trying to be controlling like your dad I'd love to do that with a Tesla tire I said in it I feel like that'd be There's a joke here somewhere
Starting point is 00:40:34 Imagine it would swing for you Yeah, there is Bye dad, I'm going to the prom Funny sweetie What's that? A palm dress I seem to be hearing that word a lot lately Oh
Starting point is 00:40:46 Hi Wow I am Say how did dad Wow Garsh Bye daddy Stop turn
Starting point is 00:40:57 Collaborating listen Cameron asked me to go to the prom And I really really really want to go And since Cat one I guess I'm allowed to Nice to meet you Let's go Damn
Starting point is 00:41:06 I know every cop in town Bucco Wow You too where'd you get a toxic at the last minute oh just something i had you know lying around there's like 45 deleted scenes i was gonna say did they make up off of green
Starting point is 00:41:25 nothing they're just decided to move past it anyway all right i'm really sorry that i questioned your motives nah you should have you'll forget them wow ready for the prom yes he's joey about to embarrass them
Starting point is 00:41:42 probably oh my god shows up expecting oh he's gonna to embarrass them no i'm mr stratford i'm joey i'm here to pick up bianca but he did it just for the money yeah this is gonna be so bad man. What are you doing here? I'm sucking.
Starting point is 00:42:20 You're the only sophomore of the problem. Joey just picked me up. Damn, girl, you got to be more than seconds. Have some self-respect. Joey else left you for one reason. He even had a bad going with his friends. He was going to nail you tonight. Oh.
Starting point is 00:42:32 What's Beyond you doing here with that cheese dare? I didn't pay you to take out cats with some little pumpkin snake. Ah! Oh, no. Ah! that would be the most heartbreaking thing that was very well done but also my heart hurts that would i would be the most heartbreaking oh man if i was in her shoes i would yeah can't walk that back it's real tough i don't think i could ever forgive that yeah you miss with the wrong guy
Starting point is 00:43:06 now you're gonna pay hit him hit his perfect face all right that's enough okay you cross the line Oh, come on, get up, you little punk. Hell, yeah. Bianca, I'm shooting a nose spray ad tomorrow. Yeah. Nice. Yeah. Oh, that's awesome.
Starting point is 00:43:40 That's, that was a great team. Oh, that's so cute. Oh, that's so adorable. It wasn't like that, okay? Really, what was it like? A down payment now and then a bonus for sleeping with me? I didn't care about the money, okay? I cared.
Starting point is 00:43:55 I cared about you. Uh-huh. You are so not who I thought you were. You got to elaborate. You can't just stop. Uh-huh. So you sure you don't want to go sailing with us? It'll be fun.
Starting point is 00:44:06 Hey, they're actually doing it. I don't know if I ever thanked you for going last night, but it really meant a lot to me. I'm glad. Bye. Bye. You're not mad at him, and he'll. I hope so.
Starting point is 00:44:20 I'd be a little bit mad at him too. Yeah. I hope she knows his part yet. Where's your sister go? She's meeting some bikers, big ones, full of sperm. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. The part where Bianca beat the hell out of some guy. Bianca did what?
Starting point is 00:44:36 What's the matter upset that I rubbed off on her? Oh, impressed. Aww. You know, fathers don't like to admit it when their daughters are capable of running their own lives. of running their own lives it means we've become spectators bianca still lets me play a few innings you've had me on the bench for years when you go to sarah lawrence i won't even be able to watch the game oh that's what it was all about when i go oh boy don't tell me you changed your mind i would
Starting point is 00:45:00 just send him a check and then he got the attention from his daughter he wanted anyone braving up to read there's allow i will we go. Also a guy, he'd like he was in their class, because he only was in there at the beginning. I hate the way you talk to me and the way you cut your hair. I hate the way you drive my car. I hate it when you stare. I hate your big dumb combat boots and the way you read my mind.
Starting point is 00:45:35 I hate you so much it makes me sick. It even makes me rhyme. I hate it when you make me laugh. Even worse when you make me cry. Aww. I hate it when you're not around and the fact that you didn't call. Whoa. I don't hate you.
Starting point is 00:45:52 Not even close. Not even a little bit. Not even at all. Aww. Oh, he's going to cry too. Yeah, that was really touching. His last like 10 minutes have been so sweet. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:08 For the 10 things. Yeah. For the 10 things she needed to know. Oh, that makes the title so much more sweet. I like how they naturally infused poetry to be a big meaningful part. 100%. Use all the money to buy the guitar. Is it for me?
Starting point is 00:46:30 Yeah, I thought you could use it, you know, when you start your band. Aw. Besides, I'd some extra cash, you know, some asshole pay me to take out this really great go. Is that right? This fucking movies get it, me, man. Yeah. It's not every day you find a girl who'll flash someone to get you out of detention. Oh, you got that.
Starting point is 00:46:55 Oh, that's so cute. You can't just buy me a guitar every time you screw up, you know. Yeah, I know. But then, you know, there's always drums and bass and maybe even one day a tambourine. That was nice comeback. I'm crying. that is sweet adorable
Starting point is 00:47:17 yeah very very adorable very cute so we're how the movies started off like so quirky and then it becomes like more natural as it goes like more real
Starting point is 00:47:33 it started like so surreal and so odd who is this band the guy The comments are going to let us know, but that's really badass for them to play on top the building like this. Yeah, that's a cool way to go out, man.
Starting point is 00:47:50 Patrick was his name's whole time. Couldn't have never could have ever fucking committed him ever Patrick, Cameron, Bianca. Beautiful jock is a character name. What it must be like to be cast is that? Or cowboy. Not just be a
Starting point is 00:48:07 jock, but a beautiful one and to book that role. There we go. Oh. Ew. Okay. Oh. No, I'm really looking forward to doing it.
Starting point is 00:48:28 Go see Ms. Perky. What? Now. Now, Perkies. Hey. You're getting around, Mr. Cueva. Yeah, I forget there's no. about these scenes.
Starting point is 00:48:42 It's right here. Come here. No, I wanted you for so far. Whoa. Did he actually hit him? What are you kidding me? Could I get a prophylactic? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
Starting point is 00:49:06 I forgot. guy else of jandy's in the movie that's great what a fun way to hit that deleted scene yeah right it's on the bloopers of deleted scenes and it also that's clever because it also gives you wrap-ups to some storylines yeah some buttons to some storylines we didn't see a button on yeah i've never seen that before a deleted scene a way to use outtakes as a narrative completion yeah it's a fascinating way to do it and it fits within this weird surreal almost meta very self not meta but a very self-aware world yeah that was neat all right ladies and gentlemen we just watched 10 things i hate about all of you that was better and better as it kept
Starting point is 00:49:58 going like the first 20-ish minutes i was like oh i feel like this is going to be fun it'll be okay but as it kept going i found myself like falling in love with it and i would say like i was love this movie by the end of it first i was really kind of concerned that i wasn't going to i wasn't concerned that i wouldn't dislike it i was more of the mindset that i might just not enjoy it by the way every saturday we have a comedy romance movie reactions i forgot to mention i also got forgot to mention prepper thanks for writing on these highlights you guys rock my socks so yeah i mean i previewed some of the questions that our royal rejects gave us and i feel like we'd go over a lot of what we want to talk about based off some of these great questions that we actually have
Starting point is 00:50:40 But I wanted to get some of your quick thoughts first. Yeah, I thought it was really fun and charming. Not only the characters, the dynamics, but the way that it was filmed was really engaging and surprising in the amount of camera work that was on display here. Yeah, I didn't remember anything about this from when I watched it in the middle school or the show, but I am thoroughly happy that I got to watch it again with you and with you guys. I really enjoy myself. And it makes me want to rewatch the show so I can see how the different actors portrayed and how, Different scenarios kind of unfold differently. I think it unfold the same.
Starting point is 00:51:13 It was a show, not a television movie, it was a show. Yeah, it was a show on ABC Family. I could say it could be a show. It's a giant ensemble. It's a whole world. I would love to see, like, episodes dedicated to the Bob Marley crew. That's what I want a show of for. Yeah, man.
Starting point is 00:51:29 I know that there was another show I used to watch called Greek, and one of the actors from that show was on the adaptation of this. Oh, fun. Yeah. I could see how this movie has stood the test of time. go for sure because even characters who weren't interesting become more interesting the heart envelops over time
Starting point is 00:51:45 it's one of those movies that because so much is going on it feels longer than it is but in a good way yeah it's a really good point it's really good point i found myself wrapped up in it sometimes when i'm having a day like today i'll find myself getting distracted or i'll get some anxiety because i'm aware of how much i have to do after which is one of those days i have right now
Starting point is 00:52:07 but I did find myself like weirdly transported into this high school world that that was crafted. Yeah, no, it definitely got me curious to see what, how accurate this is to the actual Shakespeare
Starting point is 00:52:23 play. And yeah, if it has as much charm, obviously Shakespeare is a classic, but yeah, it made me curious and see if I'd view in a different lens. I'll never read it or watch it. knowing me but hey let's go to some roll rejects questions let's get it because trust me they got some stuff that we are going to like to answer let's start off with a couple simple ones uh t m hope you enjoyed this movie how do you think heath ledger and julia styles made their chemistry feel so real compared to other teen rom-coms do you have any immediate thoughts uh i imagine they probably spent some time together outside of the immediacy of the shooting
Starting point is 00:53:07 You know, ensembles like this typically have some sort of camaraderie, maybe they even dated. I don't know, but it definitely felt authentic and felt very real. And I appreciated it because of that. Yeah, you definitely felt the tension, both in the light moments and the conflict that they had. They definitely have that sexual tension between them. So, yeah, I thoroughly enjoyed it. They were great, and I'm happy to hear that that's the universal opinion of people and these two in this movie. I feel like they're actually written really well.
Starting point is 00:53:39 That too. They're the characters or they have something dramatic in their past that has shaped them into who they are. They're a bit of a reject, if you will. There's someone who stands out amongst the crowd and they're also very honest individuals with themselves as much as possible. And they're strong.
Starting point is 00:54:03 They stand up for what they truly think. feel they're not subjected to what other people think about them and they represent two different sides of that and the writing did such a good job at showing at really highlighting where they're similar and where they're different and their similarities are so strong and i feel like heath ledger and julia styles who are both obviously amazing actors julia styles i really feel like deserved a bigger career than when she ultimately is like she's a known actor but i don't feel like she ever quite rose to the level of fame i feel like she's she could have been at like the you know where any actresses are now that are really popular or like a margot roby or an amy
Starting point is 00:54:43 adams or something like that because she's an amazing actor yeah but i i really got the impression that these two really knew these characters you know a lot of other rom-coms i feel like because they're rom-coms they sometimes just treat it like it's a rom-com so we don't need to put that much homework into who these people are the impression i got was they really put homework into who they are. There's such a relaxation and naturalness about the way they both play these characters that I found to be really
Starting point is 00:55:14 magnetic from both of them. It's really easy to look at Heath Ledger and give a lot of the praise to him specifically because of him being such a standout performer. But both him and Julius Stiles, Julia Stiles, I think, really found the right, they really knew
Starting point is 00:55:30 the direction of this film. They knew when to show these different shades and I feel like it's because the typical movie of a rom-com would do the funning games
Starting point is 00:55:45 of them trying to get together they start getting together in the finale towards the finale and then the all-lossed moment happens where she finds out the truth but they took different zigzags along the way like at the party
Starting point is 00:55:57 where she gets drunk and shows herself and then he doesn't kiss her then they're apart like they meant they knew how to make this feel a little bit more like a cat and mouse game and more real as opposed to your typical beat sheet of a film. Yeah, no, the push and pull was, was really an engaging part of the story because we really are rooting for these characters, but obviously they're flawed. And yeah, they did feel really lived in. And you believe these are real people that
Starting point is 00:56:21 existed. Despite of, you know, maybe how quirky it was in the beginning, you found a sense of grounding with each of them but also their relationships and even though we only have a little under two hours with them the fact that they feel so lived in the little bits of history we do get with them you can for sure see how that impacted the way they moved through the world yeah they don't play with each other they don't play it like extra heavy or something you know it feels very human in the way they do it i read merry souls mary souls i loved this soundtrack do you do you like the Ska slash Seattle Coffee House
Starting point is 00:57:00 Indy Chick music vibe that predominantly featured in the movie which is your personal favorite musical moment Greg? Well it would have to be Heath Ledger scene 100% which is not at all which you're inferring
Starting point is 00:57:14 that moment was super sweet and touching and you know this guy is spending all his money on her and it's a big romantic gesture and you could see if there's one scene that showed the jokerisms of him it was probably that one scene and her like feeling like charmed by it but in terms of the musical moment i actually thought the credit scene was like the coolest moment of them you know on the rooftop and the way they were showing like hey we've kind of been transferred to the society at this one location
Starting point is 00:57:42 and the the band was the theme song the kind of music the orchestra of this whole time you were here as this type of music so i i thought the credit scene was actually like my my favorite one personally yeah i think that from cultural osmosis and like maybe the small thing i remember is probably that that song and it's the thing that's one of the most anonymous things with this movie i think it's yeah consider the theme song of the film but yeah i think that they did a great job of showing a diverse array of sounds that kind of hail from that area so i guess that kind of answers where this takes place but yeah i'd have to agree with you that i think that in spite of all the fact that we got all these wonderful bands and sounds from the Seattle area or the ska sort of genre.
Starting point is 00:58:33 I felt like Keith Ledger's performance was the most captivating, and the thing that really endeared you to their relationship, or at least in part, I felt like he did a really good job of showcasing the spontaneity and the sincerity of his affection for her, and you could easily believe that this is something that would win her over. Granted, I know a lot of people don't love grand gestures, but for those that do, this was a really sweet thing. I used to want to be the top of a dude, like, do a grand gesture. I have, like, an entire football field, like, asking someone to pop. So this is, like, vicariously living a dream of my own, a youth, of the youthful time of when I was in high school.
Starting point is 00:59:15 So it's really cool to see something like this and for it to play out in his favor. But, yeah, I'll say that's the best moment musically of the film for me. curred all around Keanu Chanel she gave us a few options here I'm gonna go with the top one because this seems like a fun one
Starting point is 00:59:35 they ask if it doesn't take too much time what are 10 things you love about this movie it could be 10 each or 10 together whichever is easier and more efficient well I'll tell you it's more efficient 10 together it's more efficient so let's do this list together buddy
Starting point is 00:59:48 all right what's the first one first thing you say you love about it the first thing I love about this movie is the way that it's shot I feel like they have fundamental ways of doing transitions. The first one that comes to mind is going to be when we're walking through the hallway into the concert in Heath Ledger. It starts with showing his face and it transform to his POV. And then we go cut behind him where he's into the concert itself.
Starting point is 01:00:12 That shot was really dope. Yeah, yeah. The camera work really stood out in this one. They cared to like craft something together. Yeah. As much as based on a play, it doesn't translate like that at all. That's based on a play. and there's other characters, I think, to highlight.
Starting point is 01:00:27 I would say, David Krumholtz is his freaking name. David Krumholtz was hysterical. A lot of these characters are essentially art types that you see in high school movies, and he is that, like, the funny friend, the main character, and kind of the dweeb, who the other girls, like, shoot down, and, of course, he'll get with the super nerdy girl.
Starting point is 01:00:45 Like, there's art types, but I felt like he brought so much more to that role that I thought was super funny. Yeah. Yeah. I guess so three, I really appreciate and love the dynamics of how each character's motivation was influencing the direction of the plot, you know, whether it be revenge or trying to acquire somebody's true love or monetary reasons. I feel like the way that those motivations played out would cause them to act and how those motivations change over the course of the film or didn't change. it allowed the plot to move in a really kinetic way that I found
Starting point is 01:01:25 endlessly entertaining yeah yeah it was like really I was saying it during the credits like it was a film that was surprisingly oddball and quirky and didn't quite feel real and then it becomes more real without it transitioning into something that feels tonally not complimentary
Starting point is 01:01:45 to what we experience in the first half of this movie they've managed to find the realness over time as a really well-crafted experience i'm going to be cheating here i'm pretty much just going to go through cast members uh the dad the dad relationship uh walter larry miller the performer i thought he was another very funny character he was like a perfectly cast dad who has like a simple objection again that's like another character that could be an archetype you know the overprotective father with his girls and he's going to be you know a bit of a hard ass about stuff but you know it's fucking this is like 30 years later this movie's out 30 40 something
Starting point is 01:02:24 like that and somehow it still feels like it feels like a refreshing version of a copy of character that I've seen a bunch of times and then to get like the super heartfelt moment to show that his overprotectiveness and his his controlling ways are all from a place of where he's seeking love from them he's missing the little girls within them and then to get that reward from cat at the end there from giving her what she really wants I thought it was just a beautiful way of supporting a father supporting
Starting point is 01:02:56 his daughter yeah 100% so that was four right that was four my friend so five I will say the adaptation as a whole obviously this is known to be an adaptation of the training of the shoe granted I don't know that story or it's
Starting point is 01:03:11 intricacies very well but obviously it has the framework of something like this movie, and I feel like they did a great job of making something that is Shakespeare in Old English, very accessible to a modern audience by putting
Starting point is 01:03:28 it within the context of being high school rather than like ladies and lords. I feel like they really were able to ground it in a way where it made it palatable for audiences that maybe not are so into Shakespeare. Granted, these are all human stories, and
Starting point is 01:03:44 the way we kind of intermingle with one another are things that are universal to human throughout history, but the fact that they were able to kind of put it within the context of like this Seattle setting within a high school was a stroke of genius. Yes, yes. For six, the other dynamic I would really want to highlight
Starting point is 01:04:04 is the sister dynamic between Bianca and Kat. A lot of the times when you have siblings in movies who are very different from one another, it often doesn't feel like they've come from the same household. And this one, they do. They are very different, and it's one of those movies that over time you begin to see how they are similar. And you really see how Kat is actually a sister who does care about her younger sister. That's why I loved about the experience with them is that they unveil more about what's already been there since the beginning of this movie
Starting point is 01:04:39 that we just didn't quite see yet as their relationship tightens over time. and it's hard to nail down a sibling dynamic in general where you're writing two very different people, but this slight difference in age gap, and it doesn't matter if you grew up in the same household, you can wind up two very different people, and they really felt like they were actually sisters to me. Yeah. In spite of being completely different people. Yeah, so I really love that dynamic. So I would have to say to kind of build off a bit of what you were saying.
Starting point is 01:05:15 saying seven would be the twist with cat. I felt like giving that information, the fact that she was someone who slept with, what was his name, Joey at her ninth grade year, and she did it not long after her mom left. She was in pain looking for validation. And that experience sort of hardened her
Starting point is 01:05:40 through the rest of the story and kind of use that as a way to showcase why she was being protected with her sister was really unexpected. And I thought it made a lot of sense for her character and only added to the depth of why she moved through the world in the way she did. So, yeah, I thought that was a stroke of genius.
Starting point is 01:06:01 I don't know if that's something original for this movie or that's something from the Shakespeare play. But, yeah, I really like to love the director. I agree with these sentiments. eight i would say the handling of a giant ensemble a lot of time it's easy for characters to feel neglected or worse when your main characters feel like they didn't get enough attention because they had too many other characters cooking in the kitchen here and this movie does not suffer from that and they knew how to use the supporting players around them to elevate you know
Starting point is 01:06:38 like the Joey character is probably the most like one note character of them all and like there's zero depth to him but they use him appropriately as they're some kind of antagonist. The teacher, Mr. Morgan, I thought was a really funny edition as well. Like they knew how to cut around to everyone to elevate it with the humor but also to push our main characters forward. Joseph Gordon Levin being part of that cast like I said it at a certain point like I don't really care about this guy. I'm like 40 minutes in this movie. there is a switch that happens where i did find myself very much connected and caring about what he's going through so the the whole ensemble and the ability to orchestrate this in a way that does feel like you are getting the whole high school experience of what through these guys high
Starting point is 01:07:25 school experience without it sacrificing the main stuff you want to be here for i never felt like they should cut out someone in order to give more screen time to someone else i i like the way they handle the ensemble a lot yeah uh no i think it's nine i think so all right i'm gonna say patrick i loved him i loved the way he was able to be somebody who he'd believably see as a rebel and you know somebody that if you didn't know him could believe all the the rumors that were being said about him but someone who also was very thoughtful and and very caring and protective and yet rebellious. And even though he did something for monetary reasons,
Starting point is 01:08:15 the fact it was very believable the way he was able to evolve over the course of the story or transition into something that was more genuine and sincere. And it's funny watching Heath Ledger in his youth and seeing how charming he is in this film. And it's funny because in a weird way, you're like, he's so good in this movie. Yet I can, though I don't agree,
Starting point is 01:08:38 I can understand why people will be like, the 10 things about you guys, gonna be Joker? What? He's so charming and good-looking. How's gonna be the Joker? But obviously he is the most iconic version of that character today, even still almost 20 years later. And I think that just speaks to his versatility as a performer and his ability to be so present
Starting point is 01:08:57 in any scene that he's in. Even if he's just like moving stuff in wood shop or dancing to when the girl's affection, I feel like he's just such a magnetic performance. former and this character only adds to how magnetic he is while playing Patrick. Yeah. Yeah. He's pretty brilliant.
Starting point is 01:09:17 And the last thing I would say is I love how much it embraces its themes of love. This movie has different versions of love. They got sibling dynamic love. They have parental love. They have contrasting
Starting point is 01:09:32 different variations of high school love between Patrick and Cat, between Cameron and Bianca and between Michael and is her name Mandela right there got the MDB pulled up Mandela where the girl who he falls in love with the Shakespeare love oh yes Mandela yeah like the different variations and it also shows it in a way with depth and the dark shades that can sometimes come from it and the you know the sacrifices and how it's not always perfect it can be a little bit messy. It can be ugly. Like, it's not treated with, it's a very romantic movie without it
Starting point is 01:10:10 feeling overly sappy or even overly romantic. Like, it does it in a way that somehow, even though it's larger than life than a lot of other rom-coms, it feels a little bit more believable than your typical, like, okay, there's blood apart, you know, 20 minutes before the finale, and then the man shows up at an airport or some big event, and he declares his love in a giant public setting with a big audience watching you know they they they they dodge cliche routes while still giving you what you want you know like it's it's an it's an interesting experience because like they technically kind of just do everything a rom-com would do but they do it in a way that still surprises and still feels rewarding so yeah
Starting point is 01:10:55 appreciate the way they honor all their themes and it's it's commitment to its soul i would say tomorrow. It started with a scream inside a quiet Maryland home, a mother trying to protect the family dog and her son in the grip of a violent hallucinogenic rage. By the time it was over, she was dead, and he claimed LSD made him do it. His name, David Minor the 4th, and we talked to him. Listen to Invisible Choir every other week as we uncover the most haunting true crimes you've never heard of, available wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 01:11:33 Appreciate that. And then we got a few more here. And, you know, we've said we can't take all of them. That's just one of the things we're not able to take all of them. But let's see what else we can take. All right. So let's, I don't know, this was one of the first ones submitted. You want to read Alana Picos?
Starting point is 01:12:00 Sir. Hey, guys. Fun fact. I'm Lana from Hawaii, but I went to high school in W.A. That's Washington. Yeah. Washington, Seattle makes sense. North Dakota.
Starting point is 01:12:12 Yeah, baby. Growing up between two states, and I went to high school near the high school they used in this movie. A lot of my sister's friends were extras in the dance scene at the end. Cool. Curious your thoughts on Heath in the movie. Such a vast difference from his later performances. And do you all have a favorite Heath Ledger performance? outside of the joker this one well we talked extensively uh about heath ledger yep i if you would say that
Starting point is 01:12:41 i would actually say you know the one that was introduced to with him was the patriot oh i never seen him is a mel gibson son two australians playing americans this is well i know obviously he was australian in this movie but did he have like a good american accent on that one yeah i didn't suspect he was Australian. Oh, okay. And he's really great in that movie, really cared about him a lot. He was, I think that was, I wouldn't say his introduction for a lot of people, but for more like audiences
Starting point is 01:13:10 who craved like the bigger cinema films, that was an introduction. Like, that was her first time seeing Heath Ledger. You know, a lot of, like the Patriot audience is not the same audience as 10 things I hate about you. You know, they're very different and who Mel Gibson was at that time was a huge household name, you know? Right.
Starting point is 01:13:26 Like his name would draw in box office. So that was my introduction to him. and it's really stood out. He's done some other movies that I think are great and definitely like stronger or like a broke back mountain and stuff but you know
Starting point is 01:13:40 to the heart I would say I would say that you should watch broke back mountain that's a good one you should watch it not here and then I'll yell at you yep let's go
Starting point is 01:13:53 let's see here let's see here what do we got what do we got uh row this is the Heath Ledger
Starting point is 01:14:07 tune Captain Fernandez if either you had watched this movie when it was first released do you think you would have been able to predict just how big Heath Ledger was going to be based on his performance no not at all
Starting point is 01:14:19 like he's great in the movie but this movie I don't think is to the point where you're like this guy's going to be a superstar yeah it's sad because like yeah he's great in this movie and like wow that dude was really great actor, but I think the thing that would have shot him in the stratosphere and changed the course of his career would have been Joker. Yeah, it was already happening with like Brokeback Mountain.
Starting point is 01:14:39 And like Brokeback Mountain, he was getting so much praise for because he was trying to, he really wanted to stay away from being pretty boy, you know. Yeah, he was a monster's ball in a small role. It's a Hallie Berry and Bobby, Bobby, Billy Bob Thornton. And yeah, just watching his transition. No, I don't feel like this would have been the one. But it is kind of cool to go back to the. In fact, the thing that was like, I kept tripping out about us
Starting point is 01:15:01 because I just watched Dark Night and Dark Night Rises. So I was like, this is crazy. Just watching like these two interact. I had no idea. They, I didn't know Joseph Gordon Lembo was in it, first off. I didn't expect that they would have so much screen time to gather. Yeah, dude. So though, and the fact that, like, Joseph Gordon Levitt has aged beautifully.
Starting point is 01:15:20 Him and Gabrielle Union, my God, they look almost, like, he just looks like a younger version of a man who looks perpetually young. Yep. Great skin care. he does look like young forever and so like seeing them interact was was kind of tripping me out it was also tripping me out because it kind of looks similar like they could have played brothers i could see a that sort of made you there 50% of the way so i don't have to pointlessly argue with you about something that doesn't matter they're brothers i say okay all right
Starting point is 01:15:53 there's a lot of these questions uh you know that are about like how do you do compares to the played stuff I'll tell you I'm going to have a lot of you want to be able to tell you so let's let's go with this one all right hey guys so when I was younger
Starting point is 01:16:09 I thought Heath Ledger and Joseph Gordon Levin were brothers hey oh my God what do you know I did not even see that question that's funny about that statement yeah because they look so similar to each other not knowing their actual names at the
Starting point is 01:16:23 time but my question is this being one of my favorite movies of What movie roles from each actors other than The Dark Night? Did You Live By Them? Thanks for reading, P.S. Greg. I was the guy that shook John's hand at the Dune IMAX Green. Nice. Heck yeah.
Starting point is 01:16:42 Nice. Thanks for being here. Well, we have stated the Heath Ledger ones. Joseph Gordon-Levin. I think I know which one you'll say. What the thing of that is? 500 Days of Something. No, Looper.
Starting point is 01:16:55 Oh, yeah. I forgot about that movie. No, it's 500 days of summer. Or he was young Bruce Willis. I have not seen it in a long time, but I remember liking it. And I also really liked him in Brick, but I don't remember anything about that movie. I was like Ryan Johnson's first movie. Yeah, both.
Starting point is 01:17:10 Ryan Johnson did Looper, too, huh? I believe so, yeah. Yeah, those are two movies that I know I liked a lot. I couldn't tell you, like, almost anything that happens to those movies. Like, I know Bruce Wilson interact at one point. It's part of the movie. And in Brick, I know, like, some guy keeps punching. him at one point in the scene outside of that i don't know i don't know what like the mystery is i don't
Starting point is 01:17:32 remember what yeah uh i remember just going on having a lot of like makeup on him yeah i remember brick being the one where that transition started happening for him as oh you're this guy's like a real actor and you know like inception though for some reason was the one i think that started really changing a bit of the like this guy can be a cool like handsome leading man kind of guy I remember like he had a swagger and he had the cool fight scene. Yeah, I remember liking him and Don John. I haven't seen that movie. Don Juan.
Starting point is 01:18:02 Don Juan, yeah, because he directed that one, I think he wrote and directed that one. Oh, hell yeah. There was a point where Joe's going to love it was like the hot thing. Yeah, what happened, Joe? Yeah, man. Where'd you go, dude? Yeah, what'd you go, buddy? What'd you go?
Starting point is 01:18:13 He's doing it record stuff. He's empowering of the youth now. But if I had to pick one personal one from Joseph Gordon Levitt, boy that is a toughie i guess i would actually go with inception because i just thought he was so cool i've seen in forever what we do for a rewatch
Starting point is 01:18:36 like i can break i'm sure if i rewatch brick or um looper one of those would probably take the prize but i just don't remember them well enough to tell you like why he's good in those movies even though i know he is no same it's just the feeling he has leaving it yeah that's mainly what I remember with movies
Starting point is 01:18:56 is the feeling I left me with not the actual facts of the experience yeah it's a weird thing you're like I know I've seen this but I can't tell you a single thing about it yeah no I just watched like the Batman with coin I remember most of it but there were like moments and plot points
Starting point is 01:19:12 I'm like whoa I just don't remember that it happened yeah strange nope can't answer that can't answer that we'll just take one more fun one for fun and then we call it a day andrew nick kerson hey guys i actually live close to the house from this movie it's a coma washington it was up for salem 2018 i was sold for 1.5 million damn that's fun that's how much john's net worth is if you got to buy a house from any movie which one
Starting point is 01:19:41 would you want professor x's ex mansion that's a great house it's so big i could have a room for an item like this is where my laptop is you know how cool would that be this is where I keep my gold pen and this is where I put all of my blow-up dolls
Starting point is 01:20:03 this is where I put all the comments I don't like that Andrew makes oh that's tough there's so many houses and so many movies um there's quite a few I don't know why my mind went to the grand Pudovist Hotel, because it's not a house. That's a hotel.
Starting point is 01:20:20 Could be, man. This is a great question that is not going to be real in any of our lifetimes. You know what? I'm going to pick the Grand Poudivest Hotel. I think you're cheating, man. It's not a house. I'm going to pick, you know what? I'm going to pick for the brief time we have to answer this question. I'm going to pick Bruce Wayne's house from BVS.
Starting point is 01:20:44 One of the Lake House with all the windows. nice house it was a great house just very exposed but i guess if no one lives there doesn't really matter he's the only one there his enemies coming well i wouldn't have enemies coming i just i would get it reinforced so things don't break my glass but then again i don't know what would break my glass but anyway that was my nice house i can go fishing and i can look at the look at the things outside without feeling cold on the inside so Bruce way i remember there's that one moment or he was like sleeping with a girl and they never learned who that girl is not a
Starting point is 01:21:17 single i don't know if we saw her face it should just spin off movie about her i would love that a whole break it was martian man had her the whole time that's funny all right guys well 10 things i hate about you what are 10 things you hate about aaron leave them in the comments below and we'll make a video to give invalidation It started with a scream inside a quiet Maryland home, a mother trying to protect the family dog and her son in the grip of a violent hallucinogenic rage. By the time it was over, she was dead, and he claimed LSD made him do it. His name, David Minor the 4th, and we talked to him.
