Starting point is 00:00:00 From Searchlight Pictures comes, Is This Thing On? Directed by Bradley Cooper and starring Canada's own Will Arnett. Is This Thing On is the story of a man's unconventional journey to find himself, seeking new purpose in the New York stand-up comedy scene while navigating his impending divorce. Is This Thing On is a raw, authentic, and hilarious story about discovery, reinvention, and second chances in life. See Is This Thing On, now playing in select theaters everywhere January 9th. Happy New Year people. This table's a mess and we know it. We got ourselves another Avengers Domsday trailer today. We're going to watch it. It's another shorty. John, you good? Good. Love and Thunder!
Starting point is 00:00:41 You're Coy Chandra from DC Studios. That's true. I'm going to automatically hate this because we're not supposed to like what the other company does, even though comic stores sell both. Let's watch this. Father, all my life, I've answered every call. Ghostbusters. John. I wonder Hopkins comes back. Because Odin's always been such a figure in the comics. But now fate has given me something I never sought.
Starting point is 00:01:12 His daughter. Thunder, love. Love. It's beautiful, like, legacy with his father. Now he is a father. A life untouched by the storm. A life untouched by the storm. That's beautiful.
Starting point is 00:01:27 The old father's. Storm breaking. so that i may fight once more defeat one more enemy and return home to her not as a warrior but as a warmth to teach her not battle but still us the kind i never knew my father hate my words Frank Hoden Thor That was a really emotional Like moment
Starting point is 00:01:57 That was beautiful Where was the comedy I thought Thor was a comedian It's got an infinity haircut Too It's got that infinity haircut This trailer Doobstay clock
Starting point is 00:02:09 Say it every time I'm excited Watchman I'm just gonna keep this in frame We got a little transcript here Just to make sure That we got all the lines down here Even though you couldn't hear him say it
Starting point is 00:02:18 I just wanted in front of me just in case so it looks like this movie is going to be a lot about fatherhood you know you got you're starting off with kris evans yeah with the baby they intentionally showed that and now they're going to the next trailer with thor with his daughter it's more and it adds of course continuing off from where we left off with thor lemon thunder but it's also another theme about fatherhood what i like the most though and maybe you'll agree to me on this boy hopefully you do because you are all the credit i would need validate craig and three like this feels the most like it's feeling back to like Thor from the comics
Starting point is 00:02:51 a lot more with this type of dialogue. It feels like Infinity War which to me, I mean visually it's Infinity War Thor which to me felt the closest to the comic. Yeah. Because the comic to me always represents that like Big Norse energy. It depends on who's writing obviously but there is levity in the darkness and this feels way more like
Starting point is 00:03:07 it will land 90-10 which to me is the comics. Like I agree with you like he's got levity but he's not a comedic character and I feel like we lost our way in that at a point because the natural charm of Chris Hemsworth. This to me the poetry, the language, the weight, the gravitas, all of that feels like Thor. And he even said Allfather. Like Odin
Starting point is 00:03:27 is the Allfather. He used it as like a play on words. Like the strength of All fathers is a play on the Allfather. The Allfather brings strength. That is the God that, you know, looks out over the godly kingdom and all of that beautifully mirroring what he wants to bring to his daughter. And I really love the elements of like not being a warrior, but like a different kind of strength. And I think this might be Thor die. Yeah, no. This is him going through the protector side of it. Yeah. I don't know. Do you think he'll die, John? Do you think Thor will die? Do you think they can afford to lose another?
Starting point is 00:03:58 I don't. On the heels of what... That he'll come back in Avengers, whatever. On the heels of what he's saying here and what the sentiment is, and I expect a ride off into the sunset or more like I'm going to pass the mantle and I'm going to go and do what he basically says here. I feel like setting him up to want to, you know, return from one last battle. and be a father and just live that life, I think it would kind of suck if they killed him and then orphaned that kid again. You know, it's like, it's pretty dark for marble. That's a really good plan. I didn't thought of the orphaning.
Starting point is 00:04:29 He just got that kid. Like, and I mean, he says that thing about, like, you know, the fate has bestowed. I'm like, no, gore the god butcher bestowed this on cute. I mean, to be fair. I don't expect him to die. I would be very surprised. I would sooner expect it. Steve, even though that he's got to.
Starting point is 00:04:48 baby too there's stakes all around but weirdly this feels more like a like they're foreshadowing his send-off but not his death necessarily one thing that i didn't put together directly you said during the cap one or sorry the steve rogers one was acknowledging that mirroring iron man having a baby and i think it's interesting that now we have two fathers and will that be something that we look at is like will we have something with the young stock like will something mirror that in her that death Downey isn't her father because we have now Doom looking like the father to this daughter that doesn't
Starting point is 00:05:25 have a father and then we've got these fathers dude all the kids all the kids are going to unite because you know this also spirals like Avengers who are young but like baby like the youthful Avengers Avengers like Avenger babies because two
Starting point is 00:05:38 because two we are coming off of and somehow intermingling with Fantastic 4 obviously Franklin Richards big old baby of import everyone's got babies in the game this time around Steve with the baby Thor with the kid once was a baby
Starting point is 00:05:55 and now Franklin Richards still baby And all of our Avengers All of our Avengers were once a baby too This is crazy Ant Man was a baby not even that long ago In game he experienced babyhood And he's going to be the key This time they're going to have to turn him back to baby
Starting point is 00:06:10 Time moves through him So he can communicate with Franklin Richards In the Quantum Realm and then yeah I think we just solved the mystery of these trailers everyone was once a baby that's true you know what I love of this line here is this really is like poetry what it's been written here it is cool to go back to this version of thor yeah we're making light of it and this is my favorite footage I think this is better than the captain America than the Steve rogers one honestly I think it's it's way more impactful even though it doesn't have the exciting new like someone
Starting point is 00:06:40 returning element however the the way this is written is showing like a paying attention to the way the response of Thor Love and Thunder went down. And it's such a fascinating trajectory where we've had it with Chris Hemsworth specifically because Thor Ragnarok seemed to be the thing that catapulted the presence of Thor and made him like, beloved, on a global scale in a way
Starting point is 00:07:00 no one had ever seen. And then let's do more of that. And now everyone hates Thor on a global scale that we've never seen because it was too much. And now we're bringing it back to where a little bit more akin to Infinity War, but way more, because even in Infinity War, he's like kind of funny, and they show that, I'm sure it'll be a little
Starting point is 00:07:16 funny here. Well, it seems with Rocket are my favorite, because there's humor in the tragedy, and that's to me, Shakespeare and that's Thor. Like, the God commentary doesn't work if he's too extremely dry or too extremely comedic, because if you're too dry, it becomes funny in the wrong way, and if you're
Starting point is 00:07:32 too comedic, it becomes saccharin. And I think that's what happened is, like, when you have desserts as an addition, and I think we had too much dessert with Love and Thunder, I think going back to the meat of this is what we need, and I personally think this was more emotionally connecting, because the writing shown than them just being like, ooh, shiny.
Starting point is 00:07:50 Yeah, yeah. And the one line that he has here so that I can fight once more defeat a new enemy and return to her was actually a cool way to tease the threat level. Yeah. When I caught that into even, oh, she makes him kind of spooky. Because, yeah, this is enough, too, to pull Thor out of a life that he probably might not want to leave for just any old normal enemy. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:12 If he didn't have to. Whereas this is like, okay, this is glorious purpose. We all have to throw down on this now. And even though I haven't seen Thorloven Thunder since the theaters, I guess I never registered that he's retired. Does he retire at the end? At the end, it was almost implied she was going into battle with him. At the very end, they have that freeze frame or whatever where it's like, let's do war together.
Starting point is 00:08:32 We're doing Thor stuff. This is really treated like he's coming out of retirement, and I... The last we saw him, he was not retired. I guess I just didn't register that he had given this up or something. I like this more. I like the idea of him not having... I mean, her name is Love. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:44 So I really hoped that they wouldn't have her. warring. It would make more sense if he decided to go be a father in the woods, which is this feeling. Yeah. And I love the idea of something like Doom being big enough to pull him out of that. Yeah. But I really hope they let, I think Chris Hemsard's such a dramatic actor. I really hope we get time to let this
Starting point is 00:09:00 be a cornerstone in a cast of 80. Yeah. You want him to actually be able to achieve that sort of more Shakespearean level of heft that they tried with Thor initially that didn't quite land that they then found you know, then they overcorrected with comedy.
Starting point is 00:09:16 if they can really find the gravitas here. I mean, if they're doing secret wars, I mean, they are doing secret wars. If you're going to bring Thor and secret wars, this is the version you would need. I've always said the, I think the Rousseau's and Marcus and McPhile have found that perfect Thor.
Starting point is 00:09:29 I think even Avengers won Thor found a way to make the seriousness comedy. Like, does Mother know you weareth her drapes? Like that version of commentary work because he was the straight man to other people's comedy, but then I think that over time, it just became a punchline. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:45 So I think this allows for something that feels like it's actual Shakespeare. Like, I don't know if you guys have seen Hamnet, but that was one of my favorite movies, 2025, because it found a way to modernize the language and to make the weight of it all, but it never felt dry. Like it was a... Hamnet. In Shakespearean language, Hamlet and Hamlet were interchangeable. Oh.
Starting point is 00:10:02 So, like, the pronunciation determined what it was, and Shakespeare's child was named Hamnet. This is this guy, Billy Shakes, wrote a lot of words. Billy Shakes. You know, Billy Shakes. He also invented the milkshake. He did. He did a lot, Billy Shakes. A lot of words we used today, and Bill Shakes.
Starting point is 00:10:19 Noted writer Billy Shakes penned Thor. The original BS, boy, the original BS. What a chaotic reaction to a very, like, all of this was hard. We're like, we're being Ragnarok. Right now. We're the one of the thunder problem. We slap up. We said all the serious talking points we need to say.
Starting point is 00:10:35 Happy New Year, everyone. Keep a lookout for a reaction to something else. And I think Coy's out of town for the fourth one. I hope not. I don't traveling, but I hope it drops. I hope you storm on over here in some way. I hope we find a way. Because I want to see it real bad because this has been a fun.
Starting point is 00:10:50 This actually elevated my excitement quite a bit. Yeah, this is way cooler. The Captain American one to me. Steve Rogers. Yeah, that's what everyone's going to be thinking. That's what everyone's talking about on the internet. Steve Rogers. I like their different tones.
Starting point is 00:11:00 It's nice. Bye, everyone. Bye. Bill the shakes.
