Starring Michael C. Hall (Six Feet Under, Gamer) as Dexter Morgan, Season 5 follows the aftermath of Season 4’s devastating finale as Dexter grapples with grief, guilt, and the sudden responsibility of rebuilding his life. This season’s central arc features Julia Stiles (10 Things I Hate About You, The Bourne Ultimatum) as Lumen Pierce, a traumatized survivor whose partnership with Dexter begins to blur the line between justice, revenge, and redemption. Their bond takes critical turns in these episodes as Dexter tries to channel Lumen’s rage while maintaining his fragile cover. Blending psychological tension, noir atmosphere, and moral complexity, these episodes deepen the season’s themes of trauma, transformation, and the cost of vigilantism — pushing Dexter into one of his most compelling partnerships of the entire series. Starting point is 00:02:17 of that for so but i'm sure all you guys are doing great so you don't have to endure and see my legs we love it there was no traffic on the way over here and i'm really enjoying this season actually a great deal So season four was beyond epic, tragic, beautiful, and so many other ways I could describe in this season so far has been meli-calling and very emotional as well. So I'm curious to see where we go from here. But how are you doing, Mr. Bang? I'm gruevy. It's the start of the day.

And without further ad do, it's Dexter time. All right, it's Dexter episode 5, season 5,
Starting point is 00:04:07 First Blood. Here we go. First Blood. Hey, doing some blood spatter here. That's right. We all have something to hide some dark place inside us. We don't want the world to see. Oh.
Starting point is 00:04:25 So we pretend everything. Everything's okay, wrapping ourselves in rainbows. And maybe that's all for the best, because some of these places are darker than others. It's like a kite? Carefully. Some of these places are darker than others. I want to believe that smile that watching your mother die hasn't changed you the way watching mine changed me. Oh, golly.
Starting point is 00:04:52 Sweetheart! Oh, buddy. He's got a scratch. Looks like someone was playing a little rough. Oh, I hope Harry did that. That's a little too familiar. Let's get a Band-Aid on there. Or Harrison, I mean.
Starting point is 00:05:04 I always keep saying Harry. But I use a scalpel. All you have are your fingers. Oh, he's pointed right at. Wiped clean. Not even a year old. You're already destroying evidence. And having to flee the scene of the crime.
Starting point is 00:05:18 Looking at you. Sneaky, Harrison. Every time you see me, you look disappointed. Oh. Like you were hoping to find an empty table. Guilty. I still think you need to consider my advice. What?
Starting point is 00:05:31 Leave town. Whoa. Go home to people who care about you. That pile of sugar. I told you why I can't do that. If you stay in Miami, you'll never get past this. If you had something horrible happened to you, could you just forget about it and move on? Hmm.
Starting point is 00:05:47 Interesting question. I don't want to. What if you couldn't? Cool. Poor thing. Oh, bad, bad, bad, bad. mollockness of that. If you really want to help me get past this,
Starting point is 00:05:59 help me find those guys and kill them. Let's do it together. I saw you kill Boyd. You knew what you were doing. It's not talk so loud in public. Going after those men won't help you get past this. It'll only make it worse. How could it get worse?
Starting point is 00:06:12 It'll open up something inside you. You don't want to know is there. It's called a dark passenger. Trust me. Trust you? I don't even know your last name. Unless you know about me, the better. Better for who?
Starting point is 00:06:23 Unless you know the best. If you're not going to help me, why do you keep coming back here? I'm trying to help you. I just want to lead her on a path of revenge and vengeance. Minneapolis. Yeah, I use some miles. How generous. You really want to get rid of me, don't you?
Starting point is 00:06:45 I want you to get on with your life. She took the ticket. Maybe this is one problem I can check off the list. I don't think so. I don't think so. And maybe it'll snow this week It snows often in Miami, right? That is good sugar
Starting point is 00:07:00 You know, this wasn't even my call LaGuerreta said I had too many days I had to use him or lose him That's bullshit No argument here He's a good cover I gotta go He doesn't want to tell her
Starting point is 00:07:12 He got suspended Especially her When's my partner He should be here, not you No offense Look, what do you want me to do The right path What he's looking for
Starting point is 00:07:21 He can't let me be here Oh my Oh If it's okay with you We'd like to ask your son Some questions Oh I still can't get over That throat slip with the machete
Starting point is 00:07:33 See? Yes Yes doc We were wondering if there's anything You can tell us About the man who Injured you She needs to stop feeling guilty
Starting point is 00:07:42 She saved his life He's seen him around But he didn't know who he was I've heard Algo Like they were doing Actually translation back and forth He doesn't remember
Starting point is 00:07:53 or anything else. He was really scared. Fuente said he was going to kill him. Damn. I can imagine your heart's racing and you're not thinking. Thank you. I wonder. Oh, you think he knows more than he's laying on? He had a mark in his hand. What, like a little? A small one. Like a tattoo? Yes, like a tattoo. Can you draw it for us?
Starting point is 00:08:15 You want. Oh. Lumen needs to stay away from the darkness. I, on the other hand, always need names for my table. And there are a few people more deserving than Boyd Fowler's accomplices. Nothing in Boyd's arrest record even hints he had help. Zero to go on. Oh, crap. Yours. Thanks. You didn't have to do that. No, it really is yours. You left it on the hood of your car. My head's in 50 places. Masuka didn't even begin to keep up the caseload. Well, good luck getting the midget pouring off your hard drive. You might have shown it to me. Oh, oh God. You didn't come home last night.
Starting point is 00:08:51 Where were you? No, it was late. And, I didn't want to wake you, so I just crushed her friend's off. What friend? What are you mom now? Oh, boy. Boy, we are being very dismissive. Give me your opinion as a female. As a female.
Starting point is 00:09:05 As a woman. McCart. What about him? Do you find him attractive? What? Would you ever? I would rather put a campfire out with my face. Yes.
Starting point is 00:09:16 Yeah, dear. I checked him with Sierra. She's going to stay on the ATM video surveillance while I tracked down the tattoo. Do you see that again? Oh, golly. She still looks like a UFO to me. Who the fuck knows, right? We need to talk to an expert.
Starting point is 00:09:30 An expert, huh? I know a guy. Hope's never even. Oh, my God. What the hell? What the... My man. Oh, my God, dude.
Starting point is 00:09:44 That was not what I was expecting. When did you get this? I've been adding to it over time, but, uh... This underwear, too. The main work started about two years ago. I was having a bit of a crisis. Oh, my God, yes. I adore this.
Starting point is 00:10:04 I adore this. Michael Angelo. And yes, I'm serious. If your tattoo were done by anyone local, Michael Angelo will know. Or Leo Nardo. Donna Tello. Raffa yell.
Starting point is 00:10:16 That's the hardest one to make work. I like what I said. I like it, though. From the outside, a normal home. is indistinguishable from the home of a monster who puts women in barrels. Thanks for validating me. I appreciate you. Words of affirmation go a long way in friendships and brotherhoods.
Starting point is 00:10:33 There must be something around here that will point me to Boyd's accomplices. Just do it. Find it. Listen to the tape. Not playing anymore, John. Somebody's been here. Uh-oh. Someone's spooked. Oh, great. Maybe Lumen? Blood.
Starting point is 00:10:46 You think it was Lumen or someone else? Could have been, but it could have also been, you know, one of his guys trying to burn. their evidence yeah they didn't burn a lot of evidence left a lot it looks like they were going through Boyd's files I think she was looking for I'm pretty sure was her but I'm usually wrong so happy to admit it whoever Boyd was working with must have panicked I'm trying to cover up any trace of their existence amateurs apparently being observant amateurs being observant John means you've seen it apparently no match There's a whistle.
Starting point is 00:11:23 Oh, and I looked her up. She is not Friday. I'm going to get going. Captain America and Iron Man. Sonia, can ask you a question? Sure. You ever noticed Harris in being... Violent?
Starting point is 00:11:35 Aggressive? Aggressive? What do you mean? Scratching, stuff like that? No. He's a very gentle child, really. Why? Oh.
Starting point is 00:11:44 My little brother used to bite people. Bloody little cannibal. Now he's a vegetarian. Works for Greenpeace. It's comforting. Yeah. Anyone can change. I could change.
Starting point is 00:11:55 You could change. No match for Daddy in the criminal database. You are absolutely right. Maybe he drives. Let's check the DMV. Got a corona there, Donald. Yeah. One half pounds.
Starting point is 00:12:09 Who do we know from Minnesota, John? Oh, dude, you. I never would have guessed. No, guys, I haven't seen it. You're good this man. Not really. I took the bait and you're good. It's pretty, yeah, I thought it just...
Starting point is 00:12:25 Whoa. Where did it happen? Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Whoa. This got really bleak and dark very quickly. This seemed like a product of a stable mind. That's the eye spit on your grave season.
Starting point is 00:12:43 The closet was the only place she felt safe from them. She's remade it here. Wow. Dexter, are you listening to me? Yes, I'm listening. She's not a killer. She's not you. She's coming undone.
Starting point is 00:12:55 She needs help from Dexter. This is a letter she took from Boyd Fowler's house. From his ex-cellmate, Robert Brunner, getting paroled next week, need a place to sleep. Sleap. She's found a target. You don't know what she's planning. I know this isn't going to end well. She keeps going this way.
Starting point is 00:13:11 She's going to get herself killed. Or thrown in jail and you're going to be right there with her. Yikes. She's going to bring you down. This is a whole theoretical trove of... Teach her the proper way that you couldn't do with McGregard. I know what you're doing. You're looking for the men who hurt you.
Starting point is 00:13:25 What, you're spying on me now? Are you gonna do if you actually find one of these guys? It was the one-armed man, right? Maybe what you won't. Are you gonna kill them? Is that it? I'm sorry. You don't get to tell me what to do. Have you noticed they changed positions? I asked for your help. You turned me down.
Starting point is 00:13:39 For your own good. You saved my life. I'm grateful for that. But what I need from you right now is to leave me alone. Don't touch me! Yeah, not the move. These men put five women in barrels. They're not gonna want to be fat. Please.
Starting point is 00:13:53 Let me help. Stop this before it's too late. Not going to stop. She's too determined, dude. They've ruined her life. Yeah, it's a solid debate. She's not going to stop until she finds Brunner. So embrace that and help her.
Starting point is 00:14:05 I mean, yeah. It assumed her life with this awfulness. Yeah. What about Quinn? The vacation he's being forced to take. She's feeling short-handed without her partner. And to tell you the truth, we need him. See you in.
Starting point is 00:14:17 Not my call. That all? He can tell when she's lying. Is there anything I need to know about my case with? Did she have to do something? Is there anything I need to know about anything else? Oh, no. What did she have to do to get rid of the case?
Starting point is 00:14:31 I'll see you tonight. Um, I might be late. Oh, no. God, this is not good. Oh, my God, we are doing this now. Don't for a second think it's because she likes that boy. She does not. What is, and yeah, what a compliment to the other plotline.
Starting point is 00:14:52 years for sexual assault, Elton 3 for good behavior. Oh, good behavior. Have you ever seen his scars like that? Yes, on Lumen. Oh, boy. Total Bridge is the perfect place for Brunner to hide in the dark, but not from me. I've got to get to him before she does. Dude, she could just feed you people.
Starting point is 00:15:08 Good to see you. And this is the detective I was telling you about. Detective Morgan. Ashante. We interviewed this kid who saw this on the hand of a suspect we're looking for. Any idea what it means? crude, simplistic, but it's definitely an eye. An eye for an eye.
Starting point is 00:15:25 Some kind of evil eye, all-seeing eye. I symbolize the third eye in our minds. Like, they got Horace, and also, just like the back of a dollar bill. Hmm. Have you ever done something like this? Well, if I had, I would have remembered it. Uh-oh. Anything else you can tell us, we're kind of desperate here.
Starting point is 00:15:44 Without it in front of me, that's the best I can do. Get me that hand. Come see me anytime, okay? Okay, thank you Okay Okay It's okay New ship
Starting point is 00:15:56 Poor Julia Tuttle The mother of Miami They named this bridge After her in her honor Oh Jesus Now it's crawling With piles and stupenders Oh bad news
Starting point is 00:16:06 You mind if I watch The kid fuckers stay over by the tracks Why is that act Ouch so familiar It's not why I'm here Why is that Stuck up little co-ed and I had a legal disagreement
Starting point is 00:16:16 Concerning the meaning of the word consent Bruh Take a load off. Appreciate it, brother. Where'd you do your time? Okachovie. All that stretches in that shit hole.
Starting point is 00:16:26 I told everyone I was in for armed robbery to keep a target off my bag. Woof. You from Miami? You used to be. Guy bunked who lives down here now. Thought I let him show me the town and have some fun.
Starting point is 00:16:37 Did that funny clue. That was jolly. Once my parole's done, fuck Florida. I'm going north. Give me some of that farm fresh. I feel like you're going six feet under. A couple weeks ago
Starting point is 00:16:50 Had this hot little blonde on all fours Oh boy Oh boy Believe me that bitch got every fucking inch In my mother fuck Wow Good cut too Jesus
Starting point is 00:17:05 He's a On parole What are you saying Think Are you listening It's gonna have a paper trail Okay Oh, God.
Starting point is 00:17:20 He's wearing an ankle bracelet, it couldn't have been him. She got the wrong guy. I was ready to kill him. I mean, he does not seem like a good guy at all. He's ready to kill him. Cool, cut. Amazing transition. Where's Sonia?
Starting point is 00:17:37 I sent her home. She said you were going to be working late. Oh, good on mine. I grabbed a beer. What's he doing here? Oh, shit. He wanted to... Hang out.
Starting point is 00:17:46 Borrow. book he reads he reads yeah he does here i love this kind of dramatic tension thanks well vacation reading what she's just leaving what she said what she said oh so awkward i will call you in the morning joseph joseph okay dabra kind of worn for gloves oh no shit good night thanks for the book No, God, he's an imp. Sometimes, Quinn. Are you and Quinn? Really, Deborah?
Starting point is 00:18:22 We're, buddies. Hey. Oh, wow. Very direct. You need Quinn for that? What will rub off on him? Just keep Quinn away from my son. Fine.
Starting point is 00:18:34 You know, you're wrong about Quinn. He's... Oh, yeah, he's an all right guy, except for when he's about to expose you. Why so late? Budgets are due at the end of the month, so... I'll set the table Thanks Oh boy
Starting point is 00:18:50 Did happen Oh my god This is an ongoing thing He's just gonna extort and blackmail And abuse her that way That's crazy work I really need to find her It's important
Starting point is 00:19:03 She was asking about Tuttle Bridge I told her that is the last place she wants to be Selfish narcissistic pieces of shits With power like that Oh my god, oh my god, dude. What are you doing? Taking you out of here. Give me the gun.
Starting point is 00:19:32 Give it to me. No idea what those animals did to me. Oh. He's wearing an ankle bracelet as part of his parole. If he leaves this place, it gets reported, I check. He was here the whole time. Oh, crap, dude. Coverbren has never seen you before.
Starting point is 00:19:47 He's never touched you. Never hurt you. You're about to murder the wrong man. Oh, this is so twisted and weird. I just want to feel better. I want all this to go away. Yeah, sister, I feel you. I don't see how I can.
Starting point is 00:20:03 Oh, no. Back to your family. If you don't put this behind you, I swear what you're feeling now will only get worse. God, I wonder. Okay, okay, okay, I'll go. I don't know. You smell that? Uh-oh.
Starting point is 00:20:20 Uh-huh. Oh, shit. Uh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Yeah, buddy. I could smell it through the screen, John.
Starting point is 00:20:35 Uh-huh. Ooh-hoo-hoo-hoo. You need to tell Masuka and Dexter that they need to bring a bug kit and some fucking crackers oh crack you good? That was disgusting yeah oh shit I hate it I hate it
Starting point is 00:20:54 hey let him go this is a sting let him go oh shit you idiot what would happen if you barge in here I know wow give us a minute Jim
Starting point is 00:21:10 you just don't learn Do you, but he's just him. I mean... Are you Peter Weller? What's that? Hey! Robocop, baby! What?
Starting point is 00:21:20 Did I was... What am I supposed to think? You barely talk to me. The late nights, they're sneaking around. Communicate with him, and he wouldn't have thought that. How'd you find us? Wait, I don't even want to know. Oh, shit, this is bad.
Starting point is 00:21:33 IA. needed my help to bust a narcotics cop on the take, and I said yes. Why? To close the books on your bar fight! So I want to hear about... Sneaking around and late nights. That's sweet of you, but just talk to him. Communicate. Why didn't you tell me?
Starting point is 00:21:47 Why didn't you trust me? Maria, I thought you were being blackmailed into... The remains have already started to mummify, but the wounds are consistent with the machete. I can make sure when I get them back to the lap. The only weird thing is we can't find any Santa Claus Morty, Mumble Jumble. Santa Claus Werte. Oh. The eye.
Starting point is 00:22:08 I see you. Get a tramp stamp of the eye. from nightclub it was a fucking nightclub it's a nightclub what's gotten into her I'm gonna go deal with the press unless I'll be back dexter
Starting point is 00:22:24 good to be back lieutenants this tension between them you don't have to wait I don't mind I can pay you back for the ticket I'll send you some money except I still don't know who to send it to uh oh
Starting point is 00:22:38 Dexter Morgan Oh, I trust her. It's not necessary. No, a ticket. I came to Miami for a fresh start. Ugh. Somewhere warm. Doing the right thing.
Starting point is 00:22:51 Your parents will be happy to see you. I tried to call them, but I couldn't. Oh. What would I say? Yeah, I don't even know where you possibly begin. I can't tell them what happened to me. I can't tell anyone. Hey, you got to get a complex PTSD there.
Starting point is 00:23:09 You're the only one who knows. Say, you got to be out. You have my number calling you. You know who you're written. Who you want to tell. Watching friends the other day, and Rachel ran straight to the gate. I'm like, oh, yeah, it was a different time. How long ago was that, right?
Starting point is 00:23:24 The 90s. Jewelry belts. That was that side of 2001. Now, this is this side of 2001. Except the map, ma'am. Oh, no. Is there that a problem? I can't let you through your gate list.
Starting point is 00:23:35 You can send to a hand search. I hate this. No, this is very bad. There's a one-on-one-one touching her. This is B-I-D bad, but at least it's a lady. I need you to stay still. Ugh. Spread your legs.
Starting point is 00:23:48 Oh, no. Oh, I hate it. I hate it. Distorted vision. Oh, no. This guy looked like Darren Malacki in a second ago. Oh. Whoa.
Starting point is 00:24:10 Oh, dude, no. Oh, what a shot. Oh, oh, oh. Could have making this feel like an eternity, too. I don't know. I'm so uncomfortable right now. Oh, wow. So asked me how my day was.
Starting point is 00:24:30 How was he that? It was better than your slacker. Because I know where Carlos and his brother have been hanging out. It does look a little like George McPly. I bet I get some steaks and beer and we celebrate. Well, there's nothing. He's tell me he's not there with another woman. We're going to get a reveal shot.
Starting point is 00:24:44 Now get your ass moving. I'm starving. On my way. Thanks for the quervo. Oh, what the hell? What the f? Everybody happened. Fuck those A.A. rats. And your boss. What?
Starting point is 00:24:55 He's the reason I'm here. I'm paid leave. Oh. That bitch put handcuffs on me. And then that known ass McCourt parades me around that station like I'm the goddamn carnival prize. They can both go for a dog. Cop a plea.
Starting point is 00:25:10 with cracking walnuts up their ass. I want to fight this thing in my ass damn dime. Oh my God, dude. Go Peter Weller. Might have a job for you. What? Really?
Starting point is 00:25:21 And what would that be? Looking into someone. Who? Guy I work with. Interested? Oh, my God. You fuck with the bull. You get the horn.
Starting point is 00:25:30 You understand. A horn. Single horn. How about you don't like to eat you stay out of the kitchen? Also. It's a line from Robocop. These days.
Starting point is 00:25:40 These guys love each other. Dexter Morgan. Dexter. The fuck kind of name is Dexter. Oh, it's the shot we opened on, right? Yeah. Is there darkness in Harrison? Or is it just my own fear being reflected back?
Starting point is 00:25:53 It's a different color temperature on that other shot. I just know he's the one who scratched Teddy. He was right next to him. Did you read about what happened to his mother? That boy will never be the same. There's nothing wrong with my son. Oh. Yeah, you guys are mean.
Starting point is 00:26:09 I'm sorry for everything. than the worst hair. Oh, buddy. You'll always be my son, whatever we have to face. We'll face together, okay? Ow! Lull! You got to trim that boy's nails.
Starting point is 00:26:22 Yes. I've been in Minnesota. It's a beautiful city. A lot of fun. Are we in this? Welcome to Miami. I don't think she's in Minnesota. Yeah, I was about to say...

That was Tales of the Crip, John. I love it. Everything is.
Starting point is 00:28:22 Illuminated. Isn't her name Illumine? Yeah, the spelling threw me off. I gotta see that movie with Elijah Wood. Everything is illuminated X. I've never seen it, too. I've always tried to keep the different parts of my life separate. Is that a framing hammer?
Starting point is 00:28:38 A father made that much more difficult. And as a husband, I failed, but I'm a very neat monster. Oh, goodwill. Rita! Who won't make the same mistake again? I packed up Rita's wedding dress. I thought Ashter might want it someday. I was going to say, you should...
Starting point is 00:28:56 The realtor suggested we paint the walls white. This is not a house I'd ever want to learn. You have to disclose that, don't you? The hope is that a ridiculously low listing price will help a buyer see past that. I don't care. how low the prices. I would never want to live in a house. Any idea where you want to live? Has that tainted had?
Starting point is 00:29:13 I'm sorry. That was a stupid question. You should take the apartment. Oh, boy. No, it's yours. No. I insist. It's really always been yours. I'll move out. I thought you already did. I didn't move in with Quinn. Bars. Well, you're never around.
Starting point is 00:29:29 I'm at Quinn's, but I don't live there. Is there a distinction? No clothes in any drawers. There's no his and her toothbrush action. Quinn's place is all Quinn A vast empty space I don't remember Rita in these Because they belong to Lumen
Starting point is 00:29:46 Me either Lumen is home in Minneapolis Another part of my life packed away That's a good cover Soon Lance Robinson will be on my table Oh this guy Lance trolls the internet Engaging in casual encounters
Starting point is 00:30:02 With innocent men Oh Who never suspect those encounters Could turn deadly Oh no This is my favorite music here That always comes up Four times Lance deliberately pushed
Starting point is 00:30:14 Someone's fantasies too far Ew Ew He'll be an easy kill Just like old times Just like old times Tonight's the night Turn up
Starting point is 00:30:26 Oh my Oh my goodness Do those get itchy I must wonder I remember when you were doing that to me For the Beirojuice makeup, I could not keep my eyes. Oh, going on in the sky. I could not keep my eyes still, or without blinking.
Starting point is 00:30:44 Yeah, that's tricky. Mr. Fuentes brothers do show up at this club, which is highly unlikely. It means that someone is possibly lying on the floor of their living room without their head. We're working the only thing we have. All you're doing is drinking and dancing on the taxpayer's dime. Bro. I would have expected more from you, Morgan. Let's just try it for a night or two.
Starting point is 00:31:05 See what happened. Did you even know this operation is? happening. Of course I knew. Why wouldn't I? Well, it seems you've been spending an awful lot of time lately with internal affairs bailing your new husband out of hot water. Uh-huh. Working club mine is a valid allocation of my squad's
Starting point is 00:31:19 resources. It is your squad, Lieutenant. How you manage it is up to you. Thank you. But if another murder goes up on the board, it's your ass on the line, not mine. Our asses are all in the grinder right now. We're married. Oh, here's what's bothering me. You weren't looking off of me out of some sense of compassion.
Starting point is 00:31:35 You were taking care of yourself. Ooh. God forbid your name should lose some of his shine. Damn, dude. Calm her out. Oh my. Sort of not a good time. Is Peter Weller over?
Starting point is 00:31:49 Yeah, he's fucking Peter Weller. Where's Quinn? And what have you done with him? I know, I know. Just give me an hour. I think he's just having a meeting with him, maybe, no? No, they're doing it. Okay.
Starting point is 00:31:59 Who's naked in your apartment? Peter Weller. We're prepping him for his union rep meeting tomorrow. Sorry. All clothes are staying on. I'll just... Beat me there. He's got one of the best voices of all time, Peter.
Starting point is 00:32:14 All time. All time. You are our target's sister? Yeah. Your boy's squeaky clean on paper. He's only been out of the country once, Paris. Hey, Lila. I tell you, it's all too neat and a little too phony.
Starting point is 00:32:31 Ah. You see drug dealers with the very same profiles all the time. That's exactly what I'm thinking. I mean, what's he hiding? Wouldn't you like to know? What's he hiding? So you think about midnight then? I'll try to make it sooner.
Starting point is 00:32:46 Can you say bye-bye, daddy? Hi-dai. He said die-die-die. Don't be silly, he said bye-bye. Harrison's first word. There's a good boy. I hope so. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:33:00 Ooh. It must be 10 inches of pure steel. Oh. you betcha oh oh damn quick in the quick it to the point loom and pierce oh what ignore dex well you probably think she's in minnesota again oh boy oh dexter he's in dark passenger mode can't talk this is the life harry wanted for me carefully divided this is in the motorhome right Yeah. What the film?
Starting point is 00:33:38 Whoa. Dexter, I shot one of them. Oh, shit. I killed him. Oh, shit. You're in Miami. I never left. Oh, God.
Starting point is 00:33:53 There's so much blood. Holy shit. Dexter, don't hang up on me. Please, help me. Don't move. Don't do anything. I would assume one of the guys who did nefarious awful things. Wow.
Starting point is 00:34:05 Oh, my God. This is so... Oh, my God. He keeps catching and releasing them. That's the sixth girl that's hit on him. Let's focus on camera three. Uh-huh. Stay single as long as you can.
Starting point is 00:34:19 Yes. Says the newlywed. Don't mean my... You've been married for five minutes. What happened to the honeymoon phase? I blinked. All goes downhill after the honeymoon phase, right, John? I blinked.
Starting point is 00:34:31 Just go if you want to go. You're unresponsible for you. Everything you do, they're so cute together, John. I didn't think it would be so hard to kill someone. Whoa. Shit. He was right here. Are you sure?
Starting point is 00:34:43 Yeah, I was worried about that. He was dead. You forgot the bodies. Apparently not. Don't get mad at me. This isn't how I was planning to spend my evening. Me neither. Would you do me a favor?
Starting point is 00:34:53 What? Stop talking. Lost a lot of blood. At least a pint. Damn. That is a lot. Oh boy. You're a terrible shot, but you never shot a gun before. You didn't anticipate the kickback.
Starting point is 00:35:03 Kickback. One of the many things you didn't anticipate. Give me the gun. Yeah, the kickback. You must have hit him once. I've never gone to a shooting ranch. Have you? Where's the point I've been backed? I think I should at some point. Yeah, one day. Hey.
Starting point is 00:35:16 Those Spider-Man blood drops. You went to the bar, you waited for one of them to show up. Where? What bar? Hurricane 26. Ha! Hurricane 26 is all the way over on Ocean Avenue. How'd you get all the way out here? That's what I've been trying to tell you.
Starting point is 00:35:32 So go on. I pulled out my gun and I forced him to drive. This place seemed deserted, so we stopped, and I marched him inside. Then you shot him. No, I asked him for the names of the other men. He called me a... Then I shot him. Yep.
Starting point is 00:35:47 How'd you know it was one of them? I just knew. You recognize his face? No, they kept me blindfolded most of the time. You could hear his voice, maybe. Oh, this is rough. One of the guys had this smell. Like, when I got in the car with this guy, there it was.
Starting point is 00:35:59 The exact same stench. You shot someone based on a feeling and an odor. I shot the right guy. It's called a hunch. Did you check his wallet? No. Should you take his cell phone? I think you gotta teach her in your ways.
Starting point is 00:36:11 I'm new to this. You don't even know who you shot. I shot one of the creeps who... You don't have any proof. I'm the proof. I have the... My memory. My experience.
Starting point is 00:36:20 Yeah. Hardly the most reliable tools. Fuck you. Fuck you. Fuck me? Wow. Wow. I can find him on my own and kill him.
Starting point is 00:36:30 Like you killed him the first time? Like, who-hoo. I have no idea. There is a feisty conversation. This way. You sure know a lot about blood. It's my job. Hypothetically, I can see how you and Quinn make a lot of sense.
Starting point is 00:36:50 Oh. So you would advise against it, but we make a lot of sense? What can I say I'm a romantic at heart? Two things can be true at once. Get your head out of your ass and do something nice for her. Yeah. Buy your card for some flowers. Get her a puppy.
Starting point is 00:37:04 A puppy? Buy her a wire. Who are you? No, no. Angel. He didn't call anybody. Who even uses a payphone anymore? Adam. We don't have cell phones.
Starting point is 00:37:18 We've got a break. Yeah. What are you doing? It's luminal. Luminol. No relation. Yeah. The hydrogen peroxide and sodium hydroxide.
Starting point is 00:37:32 react with the iron present in hemoglobin, exhibit a blue glow. See? Why do you have that in your purse? A crime scene. Guys, you gotta be in so many different places. Are you a police officer? Baywater Marino Warehouse 12, isn't it? That's here.
Starting point is 00:37:51 Here. Oh, I hate this. Oh, this is bonkers. He don't have to hide her. Oh, fuck. No, we still have time. Patrol can't move until homicide arrives on the scene. That's at least 15 minutes from now.
Starting point is 00:38:06 How long have you been a cop? I'm not a cop. What are you? Complicated. Uh, complicated. Are you slowing down? This way. Uh, uh.
Starting point is 00:38:23 This started out as an ordinary day. In one second, everything changed. Lumen happened. Lumen. How are you here in Miami? You were getting on a plane to many. I tried to get on that plane. I couldn't. I had to stay. Yeah, that TSA agent interaction.
Starting point is 00:38:37 The guy I shot tonight, he would take these three fingers. You don't have to tell me. And shove them in my mouth. It tasted like metal. Ugh. He would keep them there so I couldn't scream. Oh, God. The other guys would just stuff a dirty rag in my mouth, but not this guy.
Starting point is 00:38:52 He liked to hold me down himself. Ew. Oh, that's cruel. I saw everything. Depraved. Oh, you were blindfolded. Shit. Is this your monster? Oh.
Starting point is 00:39:12 Couldn't help noticing... You've been hanging out with a fool. How do you know? Ouch. Yasmine. My favorite flower. Oh. Oh.
Starting point is 00:39:22 Oh. Oh. You want to get out of here, Yasminita? Oh my god. Bro. Damn. Don't waste time. I don't like it.
Starting point is 00:39:32 I don't like it. I don't know. So, Angel, what are you doing, man? Oh, my God. This guy. Oh, yeah. I've seen him a bunch, too, before. She shot me.
Starting point is 00:39:47 I have no idea why. You know exactly what you did to me. I've never seen this woman before in my life. You're a fucking liar. You're fucking crazy. Oh, my God. You know exactly who I am. She's crazy.
Starting point is 00:39:58 We got a mental situation going on here. Here. You in the corner. Do you believe him? She needs help. This woman needs help. Oh, this is hard. I have to take this call.
Starting point is 00:40:08 Stay there till I get back. Don't leave me alone with her. Do not move from this spot. This is bad. This is... Oh, God. Everything okay? No, die.
Starting point is 00:40:20 Oh. Lost my partner, what'll I do? Lost my partner, what'll I do? Sleep to the loo, my darling. Meet me in St. Louis. You want me to stay a few more hours? I'll be home as soon as I can. There's no place I'd rather be right now, believe me.
Starting point is 00:40:40 There's no place like home, John. Die die. I love you. Tai die. Oh. What are their names? I'm not ruined. They're talking. Wow.
Starting point is 00:40:50 Wow. He knows who they are. Who are they? Oh. Shit, no. Me, my life. Bro. She shot me.
Starting point is 00:41:06 She's alive. You hear me? Yeah. Thank God you left your phone out. This fucking bitch is alive. Ooh. Oh, my God. That was not a good move, my man.
Starting point is 00:41:22 I mean, good for us, not for you. That is a lot of blood. Yeah. Christ. I'm glad this guy was never my dentist. Like more of a Corbett, Corbin
Starting point is 00:41:35 Bernson. Oh. Die, die. Oh, shit. Next now. He's going to feel that tomorrow if he feels anything at all.
Starting point is 00:41:48 That was unceremonious as hell. Yeah. Didn't witness her mother's murder, but she was born in blood. Wow. Like me. Yeah. Some experiences are so big
Starting point is 00:41:58 they change your DNA. What now? Sure. Homicide will be on us soon. Close this area down. Make sure everything flows through the grave. Oh my god. Called in some gunshots but didn't actually see the shooter.
Starting point is 00:42:13 Where's the body? Haven't found it yet. Then what are we doing here? Set a CG blood pool. A homicidal situation requires a body. Why don't we let the EMTs handle it? Your average person won't survive this amount of blood loss. There.
Starting point is 00:42:29 Oh, no. I could be wrong, but the actor who was the DDS? I think he was in. I'll be home for Christmas. I get it. We can't wait. Will you two guys follow us in in case his bleeder's alive? He's in a bunch of stuff.
Starting point is 00:42:40 Oh, he's in a bunch of stuff. Oh, he's in a bunch of, I'm just, the thing I just remembered him being, and I think it was that. Yeah. This was quite a long trip of looking for the blood and finding where he was, so it might take a while for them. This dude is a half a little. I'm dead. Hey, fuck why, are you taking the scenic route? Sorry, I was with Harrison.
Starting point is 00:43:03 Said his first words. Day, die. I remember your first words. Shoes. Man, I could imagine she would cuss. Oh, no! I think this way. Yeah, we're gonna keep going to find us.
Starting point is 00:43:18 We'll do. Oh, shit, he's got that guy in his trunk, too. Oh, good. I'm gonna get more M99, dog. The good thing is he's locked up, And for now, I mean, I have it from here. Do you want me to go now? Yes.
Starting point is 00:43:34 No, I'm not leaving you. Yes, you are. I can help you move the body. It's a sign of love cleaning up someone's right off of it. Oh, shit. Oh, my God. No, no. No, he broke the window.
Starting point is 00:43:54 This is nuts. Fires rip through buildings all the time. no matter how closed off parts of them are life is the same way yeah cannot be contained there's an unhinged beauty oh my god i hate it i hated so much i hate it i hated so much shit dude holy crap dude wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow Oh, my God. Cutting it so freaking close. Just duck into the next set of drums.
Starting point is 00:44:34 Oh. Oh. Dexter's car. Oh, no. Oh, no. You will not believe what I found. Oh, boy. Did he put the other body there make it look like it was a double homicide or something?
Starting point is 00:44:52 Yes. Oh, smart man. What in the mother of fuck went on in here? I don't exactly what happened. Two gay guys? Auto-erotic mummification. Yep. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:07 Mr. Plastic Man, shot Captain Bloody Underpants. Thanks to Masuka's keen expertise, Debrough will be able to close this case. Evidence will go into a banker's box and be filed away, eventually transferred to a storage facility in Bradenton, and that is where it will stay. away forever in the dark. I love Masuka so much. Oh my God, dude.
Starting point is 00:45:35 He's been waiting everything were that simple. He's been waiting to give this dissertation. Thank you for the visual. Asphyxation heightens high, but it's not without its risks. Yeah. By the way, I wouldn't touch the nozzle of that hose. Oh, my God. The blood is consistent with Masuka's theory.
Starting point is 00:45:57 If there's any follow-up, I'd be happy to do it. Oh, boy. You just landed. I have to relieve Sonia. Yeah, we're good. Drive safe. What a night. What a night. You sure you want to do this?
Starting point is 00:46:10 I'm here, aren't I? Where have I seen this actress? Yeah. I'm here? This is Yasmin Aragon. What is she doing on my couch? Miss Aragon is friends with Los Emanos Fuentes. Wow.
Starting point is 00:46:23 She also has a boatload of drug charges against her. Seems like a trade is in order. Damn. So are we going to do this or not? Made something out of the sting after all. Yeah, that was smart. I like how they've spurted. He's so chuffed.
Starting point is 00:46:44 I saw that she was wearing a Santa Moulter necklace. So I introduced myself. If we agree to drop her drug charges, she thinks she can get the frontage brothers in the club. That is, if you're willing to give us another chance. Oh Sorry about everything My man I temper about what I said earlier
Starting point is 00:47:05 You were right Oh buddy You were right I like the sound of that Yes I really like being married to you And I you It's something I never thought
Starting point is 00:47:17 What happened to me Because I've been so busy Making a name for myself And now I'm this close to making cabs And I would never do anything to stop Not on purpose I know No
Starting point is 00:47:27 but get a stink on you that I start distinct We'll stock up on the organ And cologne We'll get that Mando Sponsorship Dr. Squatch Aw
Starting point is 00:47:40 You kids are going to be all right You got glitter on your face Yeah Hazard of the job I'm not sure it's in the job description that you have to put your face in McGee's tits Oh you know the first rule of working under cover is to bond in
Starting point is 00:47:57 You disappeared. I did, didn't I? Huh? I have feelings for you. Ooh. You know? I try not to. Aw.
Starting point is 00:48:08 I like you, too. Oh, my God. More than life. But I'm still going after your brother. I mean, you're the one who keeps putting the brakes on. Yeah. Oh, if I don't want to do that anymore. Oh, shit. Oh, shit.
Starting point is 00:48:23 Don't go do it. If this is going to end badly. Oh, this is going to end badly. Like, please just tell me now. Morgan, I just said, I want to be with you. I mean, what more do you want? No. Sometimes you mumble.
Starting point is 00:48:38 That's kind of hard to understand you. How's this? No mumbling there. No mumbling there. He's just mumbling with his tongue now. I tried to send this woman 1,500 miles away, and she boomeranged back into the house. I shared with Rita so much for keeping the different parts of my life separate.
Starting point is 00:49:00 They're at the old house. She's taking up a half. Oh please don't. Oh my god. Yeah. Jesus. PTSD for you. I found some in a box. I also found this robe. Is it okay? If I borrow it? It was my wife's. The tub's not draining. Sometimes the thing you get stuck. Oh. PTSD. Are you okay? Do you need to sit down?
Starting point is 00:49:51 Yeah, for a minute. She knows that, that feeling, that look of PTSD. I know you, what you are deep down, aside from your police job and your extracurricular activities. You're a father. Aw. I saw the pictures out there. Three children? One now.
Starting point is 00:50:12 The two oldest are with their grandparents. Yeah, but I like how he acknowledges that they're still his. Yeah. You have a son? Harrison. Oh, buddy. He just started talking. Oh.
Starting point is 00:50:25 Today. Die, die. Die day. It's just the two of you. And an Irish superhero nanny. Yeah. Good old Sonia. Never thought my life would turn out like this.
Starting point is 00:50:40 Yeah. What a life. I had imagined a totally different life for myself, too. I always did everything by the book, you know. Go, go, go. Never stopped to think. Oh. There was high school.
Starting point is 00:50:53 and college and graduate school, Owen. Owen. We were going to get married at the house that I grew up in. On my wedding day, I tried on the dress, and I looked out the window at the backyard where the aisle was, and I saw everything that that aisle was leading to. Oh, no. Babies and matching dinner wear, Sunday barbecues.
Starting point is 00:51:16 And I couldn't breathe. And I remembered the movie Runaway Bride. I actually thought, This is what I get for trying to live my own life. Oh, poor thing. Do you have any idea what I'm talking about? A little? Yeah, dude.
Starting point is 00:51:33 Anyone can understand. I think it's Dexter. Tonight I felt this like this... Relieve. Yeah. And it's because he's dead. Wow. And I know that it's not going to last. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:51:50 And when it wears off, I'm going to have to find the rest of them. Because that's the only way that I'll find that peace again. Oh, no. I don't even have a name from what I'm feeling. Oh. The dark passenger. Yeah. I can't get revenge for Rita's death,
Starting point is 00:52:09 but I can't help Lumen avenge what was done to her. Here we go. How many more were there? Oh. We're on a mission. Here we go. All right. Pan out episode.
Starting point is 00:52:23 Wow. We're doing this, John. Wow, wow, wow, wow. Miguel Prado's failures are going to be your success. Guest starring Peter Weller. Oh, my goodness, gracious, gang. We have done it again. Just want to hear him say to Peter Willer.
Starting point is 00:52:39 What are your prime directives? Serve the public trust, protect the innocent, uphold the law. Yeah, clearly. And, you know, take a little cash under the table while you're at it. That's the robot cop I like to follow. You know, Polvarovin would definitely tell him to say, say that. Okay, John, because that's what the Robocup would do, especially now
Starting point is 00:52:57 in today's society. Of course. Is Paul Verhoeven like Russian? The Russian, I think he's, where is he from, is he Dutch? Go look it up, I don't know. I need to know actually right now. Look up what Paul Verhoven is.
Starting point is 00:53:14 All righty, gang. We have done it. If you made it to this point in the video, first of all, a huge thank you to the folks over at for uh this season in particular i have to imagine is going to be quite a challenge to get visible on youtube so uh mightily mightily appreciate their uh you know efforts their hard work and uh as well if you happen to be at this point in the video if you could leave a like and subscribe
Starting point is 00:53:42 and when you subscribe hit that notification bell so you can be notified when the next batch of dexter episodes comes you're away and last but not least if you happen to be listening to this in podcast form on any podcast platform of your choosing. Leave us a little bit of a rating if you could. Andrew. John! We got a couple questions today,
Starting point is 00:54:02 but here at the end of the episode, how are you feeling, sir? I'm feeling, John. I'm feeling some cathartic episodes here. Even though we still have a resolve to get to when it comes to Lumen and Dexter. I really enjoyed these episodes. I'm liking this,
Starting point is 00:54:20 I want to say, mentorship type of role that Dexter is feeling he needs to embrace when it comes to her. Kind of like Harry had to do when it came to Dexter of someone who was born in blood and had to train in the coat of Harry and now Dexter is going to have to do that with Lumen. Now, there's a different dynamic here, though,
Starting point is 00:54:42 in terms of this was a mentorship of father and son and now this is going to be a mentorship at least how I'm interpreting it. I could be wrong as I usually am. more of a romantic type of mentorship as well as someone who's trying to get what really i'm definitely feeling romantic tension yes oh okay she was in the bathtub she reminds her of rita in certain ways yes i'm definitely feeling romantic tension in a way and she's julie style she's really hot so fascinating yes i am fascinating i know jem thanks for reminding me appreciate you affirming that
Starting point is 00:55:18 yeah so i think that that is going to happen could be as i just pointed out totally wrong and if that happens i totally fine with that as well if it's just a if there is no romantic thing that happens and it's just going to be a friendship type of mentorship i think that will be as satisfying as well but i think there she also just mentioned you know about owen and how she wanted more in life so i think dexter could provide that hole in her heart that she never got, even though when she thought she was going to get something more in Miami, she found darkness and awfulness, but there could be some light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to Dexter coming into her life. It could be in the form of a mentor and
Starting point is 00:56:09 someone who's training her to contain the dark passenger and to get a cathartic feeling of, we're going to get peace and relief here. And I'm going to teach you. to contain the beast, even though it's been born. But I think also, as well, it could be in a romantic sense. So that is my thing. And I think also we saw some other areas that are very fascinating when it comes to dramatic tension. Obviously, the tension is ramped up when we are talking about Quinn and Deborah.
Starting point is 00:56:42 They are now officially official. I don't know if they posted that on their Facebook, but it looks like their lips and their words have made it official. and it's only a matter of time before Deborah finds out that Robocop is trying to get Dexter on, well, at least on his dark passenger side, that he's not who he says he is because he's too squeaky clean on paper like drug dealers, right? So once Debra finds out it's going to happen, I would imagine, at some point in the next few episodes, it's going to cause a little bit of a rift, if not a big one. Relationship. Oh, yeah. So that's one thing
Starting point is 00:57:22 this show does a great job of is dramatic tension in relationships, I feel. And I'm very curious how that one's going to go because Deborah, as we have mentioned so many damn times,
Starting point is 00:57:35 she's very direct, but she's also very emotional. She's emotionally charged just in general, and she really cares about those she bonds with and to see someone that, and she wears her heart,
Starting point is 00:57:49 in her sleeves, not literally. Otherwise, you know, she'd stain a lot of her shirts. But I will say that when she finds out that Quinn is onto her brother or attempting to, that's going to not feel good for the person that's supposed to be her partner and her actual partner, not her work partner, but her romantic partner is investigating or going after her brother. I can imagine she's not going to take kindly to that. No. So I'm very fascinated by the drama and the dramatic tension we're going to see as a result of that and then the angel and I know you're trying to get some words in here John I'm rifting here buddy the there's just so much fascinating shit going on here the the angel and la guerta storyline as well
Starting point is 00:58:39 is extremely interesting as well with non-communication neither them well I guess Angel has been married before, but La Guerta is not. She's also someone who takes extreme pride on the work she does. So the fact that Angel's got a bit of an attitude because he also, like Deborah, wears his heart on his sleeve, he's very emotionally charged as well. And when someone talks about someone he cares about in a very negative way, he doesn't take too kindly to that.
Starting point is 00:59:11 And La Guerta, while she does come from a compassionate and loving place, She was also looking out for herself in that way. And I think in any strong positive relationship, or I think the key to many, I think the key to a relationship succeeding is communication. And the fact that she was not feeling her feelings and communicating with him was the problem with why he had, doesn't give him the right to snoop in her phone,
Starting point is 00:59:35 but because she was not communicating, I think led to the domino effect of him doing that. If she would have communicated with him, that wouldn't have happened, not justifying what he did, but that led to that. So this is all very fascinating. It makes for great TV.
Starting point is 00:59:48 And I'm really enjoying season five. So far, I believe we are at the halfway mark. If not, John, you can hit me over the head with a hammer. But I believe that's where we are right now. And I'm so far, I'm locked in. I'm very invested in this season. I think it's really interesting storytelling. I'm loving the exploration of the character so far,
Starting point is 01:00:07 especially Lumen. Crazy-ass storyline. Julius Stiles is acting her frickin ass off. and I'm really enjoying it. Donald, how are you feeling, buddy? I'm feeling good. Yeah, I mean, this is, I'm feeling good. It's definitely like some really heavy subject matter
Starting point is 01:00:24 and not that Dexter hasn't been throughout this whole time, but, you know, the kind of violence that we are talking about, by and large, especially via Lumen, but through other characters as well is, yeah, like among the harshest, nastiest kind of subject matters there are in life. And so it's been fascinating to watch. And, yeah, I'm really enjoying Julia Stiles and the way in which they have drawn her situation and this complex PTSD that she's experiencing frequently and, you know, the way in which there's so much about, you know, it's, we've gone through this in culture even recently, you know, the idea of, you know, these.
Starting point is 01:01:13 things that happen in closed rooms where there's not a lot of, you know, secondhand evidence to go off of aside from, you know, two people's accounts and so many things get lost there and you have that thing, you know, toward the end where they've got that dude tied up in, you know, the warehouse and he's pleading his case. He's like, I'm a dentist. I have a wife and kids. And I think that scene was really nicely handled in that it allows you to kind of revel in the sad, frustrating, you know, yeah, heat of that kind of moment and the fact that, yeah, people can put up a very convincing front. And for so many women and victims in this position, you know, all you have to go on is your instincts and your, you know, sense and, you know, these sometimes less than concrete,
Starting point is 01:02:07 but still very sort of convincing, you know, details and things. It's just a fascinating thing. And, yeah, he turns out to be everything that she said he was. And so, yeah, I think they've drawn the sort of difficulty of the whole situation in a way that at least so far has been, you know, pretty decently observed. And I think the debate between, there's more stuff about Lumen, so we'll get into that with the questions. But I think the debate between her and Dexter,
Starting point is 01:02:37 has been a fascinating one and yeah very unique like I just love the way this show continues to seemingly react to what came before every season's felt sort of different tonally and structurally and I also feel like they're good at you know continuing to have this feel like one long gestating unfolding story about Dexter and you know the people he runs into in the different situations and ways in which he finds to try and approximate you know regular human living all the stuff with juggling Harrison, wondering what he's passed down to him. The stuff, you know, with LaGuarda and Angel, I thought has been nicely, obviously, they pitch it toward Angel's perspective so that we have less reasons to believe that something
Starting point is 01:03:17 horrible isn't happening here. But I liked the way that that played out and played on our suspicions and whatnot. And, you know, their whole resolve and, yeah, everything with the sting. Deb and Quinn is a fun one. It's just a fun, you know, interesting dynamic to throw into the mix. uh, Masuka getting to both, uh, indulge in his, you know, tattoo expertise as well as his kink expertise. Very funny. Love that for him. Uh, yeah, there's another couple of great episodes. And, uh, and yeah, very fascinating and grossing and interestingly observed from an emotional
Starting point is 01:03:56 standpoint. And I think that they're doing a good job of painting right now within the mess that a lot of the subject matter can represent. But, uh, we got a couple questions here. that are going to take us to the depth of a lot of the biggest media stuff. Emma! Thank you for chiming in. Appreciate you very much.
Starting point is 01:04:19 Another short one today. What do you guys think of the Deborah and Quinn relationship? Do you like it? Do you think it'll last? Or do you think Deborah's relationships are all doomed to end brutally? Also, Masuka's description
Starting point is 01:04:32 of the crime scene, Dexter set up always makes me laugh. I adored that. So much. You know what, Masuka describing anything makes me adore anything he used to say. But that was especially awesome. That was a gripping sequence. CIS Lee is great.
Starting point is 01:04:49 I've never going to watch Cobra Kai the same way when we get to season six. I'm like, just start making sexual innuendos. What is it? Sung Young Lee or whatever. I can't remember his name right now. I'm such a bad karate kid fan right now. Kim Sung-young, thank you. God dang, what's wrong with him, spacing out.
Starting point is 01:05:11 Do I like the Deborah Quinn relationship? It's interesting. I like parts of it, and there's other parts. I think I'm so stuck, Donald and Emma. I really, I wanted Lundy and Deborah to last so bad. That's my favorite relationship. Justice for Lundy. I know, I know.
Starting point is 01:05:30 Damn you, Christine Hill. I really am just, nothing will ever be. that for me and when it comes to Deborah Emmings and there are parts of this relationship I think like are wholesome and I think that they complete each other in areas I just think there's too much they're they are partners in work so I think that makes for messiness and I know Angel and La Guerta are in a
Starting point is 01:05:58 relationship as a relationship they're married so it can work but at the same point I think it can get dicey, so I worry about that. And the elephant in the room, he's not going to stop investigating, Dexter. I think, not a thing, I know that's going to make for a problem. So when you ask Emma, is it going to last? I don't believe so. I'm, as usual, I hope to be proven wrong.
Starting point is 01:06:31 Because I just want Deborah happy. I feel like there's moments in time during the show where Debra is happy, but it doesn't always last very long. And that's what makes me sad for her character. She gets Lundy. Yay. No, he leaves.
Starting point is 01:06:51 Then she gets, what's his name from Arrow? Yay. Lundy's back. No. She just does. Anton, thank you. She doesn't. Yeah, that's, that's,
Starting point is 01:07:03 It's like, but the heart wants what it wants, right? But point being is, I, Deborah, when it comes to relationships too, as well, she just doesn't get to be happy, it seems. By any, you don't even get me started. Yeah. So this is a very tragic character when it comes to relationships. I'm hoping it gets to end in a happy fashion for them, but the fact that the man, her partner is investigating her brother,
Starting point is 01:07:30 I don't see that ending well personally. As much as I would like it, because there's times where I really like, aside from the relationship, there's times where I really like Quinn. There's times from like, he's a dirty cop in areas. He just cuts corners and he does shady shit. I understand why the system is kind of messed up, doesn't pay them well, etc. But there's other times from like, I really like this guy. He's cool. And, you know, he's the human torch and he's on stranger things. So there's other things about him I admire. I just want Deborah happy But I don't see it lasting between the two of them What about you? I mean I think yeah The Deborah Quinn First of all
Starting point is 01:08:11 Masuka's description of the crime scene A plus epic And a really fun Like that was a really intense Kind of culmination Like oh my God So many moving pieces Are all colliding right now
Starting point is 01:08:21 And Dexter is having trouble juggling I like that they give him Increasingly difficult things to juggle And this guy escapes And he has this like Sort of harrowing takedown Pulling him off into the shadows and then quick thinking turns it into a way
Starting point is 01:08:33 to wrap all these loose ends up in a way that I thought was very fun and very rewarding. But yeah, I like the Deverecuin relationship a lot. I think it's fun dramatically. I think Desmond, got Harrington, does a really nice job. He feels like a real guy.
Starting point is 01:08:52 Like, I like everybody on the cast. I like, you know, the various flavors of characters. But, you know, to go from somebody like Dokes who is a bit of a larger-than-life personality to this new guy. Like, he does feel more like an actual... Not that I've met many actual detectives, but he just has this kind of like spontaneous demeanor
Starting point is 01:09:14 and, I don't know, the flavors and dimensions he's allowed to show and his, like, little asides, these just like little laughs or grins or things, you know, that he does or these little intense looks. Just a lot of flavor there. So, yeah, I like, you know, the kind of... long gestation of this over time. They're sort of odd couple
Starting point is 01:09:33 bickering and ultimately learning to trust him after all the internal affairs stuff from before then that comes back in a roundabout way and then that pulls him. He's always kind of being pulled back and forth between being more of an ally versus being more of an adversary in terms
Starting point is 01:09:49 of just the rest of the circumstances and certainly I think all the stuff with the Peter Weller character will add a new wrinkle, a new wrench into all the things that are happening currently. I think they're really fun together. Obviously, I don't want him to find Dexter out. Obviously, I'm dreading whatever conversation comes when Deborah finds out about that. But yeah, I think he's really interesting and I like the combination of him with a lot of characters. And I think that, yeah, he and Debra in a lot of ways work, but I can also see how this could be doomed. And I guess at this moment, I'm sort of worried about it and not optimistic about it in the long term. But at the the same time part of me is like maybe because I'm feeling that way this could last because you know certain characters where you're like oh good debor's finally found somebody who's good
Starting point is 01:10:38 for her and who's reliable and whatever else and then things get in the way and after lundee obviously I don't know if the next person she meets is going to be the one or anything like that but you know it seems like the slate has been wiped a little bit so I'm worried for deb very much so but I hope that this one isn't as brutal I'm not sure honestly I imagine she might be in a position to walk away of her own accord rather than it being some kind of messed up circumstance out of her control. But it is going to be a real big bummer when, because she's all about loyalty or largely, you know, values loyalty. And for him to be investigating both a member of our own team, not let alone my brother, that's not going to be a good convo. I mean, to your point, I agree with you.
Starting point is 01:11:23 And to your point, look how Laquerta reacted what she found out he was investigating. Dexter and that's just a team member and that's not her brother. Well, and she admires Dexter, but that's not her brother. Well, yeah, we're a family and internal affairs seems to be like an issue regard. Like it's it's an ugly conversation to have to have
Starting point is 01:11:43 regardless whether you're trying not to involve them, whether you're trying to involve them. And after everything in the past with him and the internal affairs agent and Deb from season three or whatever that was, uh, yeah, it's interesting that now he is investigating one of his own, you know,
Starting point is 01:11:59 And he's not wrong, but... He's not wrong. That doesn't matter. It's still a brother. Good drama. Yeah, it is. Christina. Hey, John and Andrew.
Starting point is 01:12:10 Hey, Christina. How's it going? I've been watching the Dexter reactions from the beginning, and I've been waiting until we got here to submit a question. Oh. So glad you submitted.
Starting point is 01:12:19 Thanks for time and it. Finally. I remember season five getting so much flack when it came out with season four being such a big act of all I can imagine. Yeah. I think this is great, but I would have been
Starting point is 01:12:29 Imagine when you follow the dark night no matter how good it is, you know? We are following it, and I think it's great. I think it's great, too. Season 5 is personally one of my favorite seasons, and Lumen is one of my favorite characters of the entire series. I know a lot of people who say this.
Starting point is 01:12:45 I think as a woman, I find Lumen's journey and wanting justice, such a powerful message to watch. What do you think of the relationship that Dexter is forming with Lumen? Do you think Dexter helping Lumen will also help him? that's a great question do you want to take this one i love what they've set up here in a lot of ways and i i really appreciate you chiming in and sharing that and yeah i i know especially women in my life who watch this show seem to have an affinity for this season and i could definitely
Starting point is 01:13:15 100% see why and like i i know people in my own life who have had experiences not too far maybe not quite as like violently grisly as what we've glimpsed with lumen but certainly in the same ballpark of horrific as what she's experienced and you know being there throughout the time as they've coped with those things and the things that they've shared um you know it's a tough thing to do to depict uh in a show like this without making it seem like a geek show and without you know treating it like some kind of pulp subject matter uh and so yeah i really like what they're depicting here and that it seems like a really messy situation for for Lumen, it seems like a really hard,
Starting point is 01:14:01 you know, emotionally anguished state. And you want this release and that whole thing she's talking about at the end of the episode about, like, I feel this piece momentarily. And it's only going to last a little while. I know I've got to hunt the rest of these people down. And there's, I have to imagine, a very cathartic thing happening for people who have lived through any shade of
Starting point is 01:14:21 this kind of abuse, you know, watching a character. Yeah, who is kind of taking up a crusade, you know, not on behalf of them, but, you know, like in a way that resonates uniquely with a certain group of people. And, yeah, so far from my limited perspective, I like the way that they are representing both the difficulty of the entire position, trying to get people to believe you, trying to get people to help you, trying to get any kind of relief, justice, retribution. It's so freaking difficult. And I think for Dexter as a character, it's very interesting because it gives him a chance to, you know, he's had people influence him. he's had mentors he's a father now to be them the mentor to somebody um and also finding somebody
Starting point is 01:15:05 with like a truly righteous mission and as much like i i appreciate you at him trying to preserve her and not wanting her to get caught up into this web of death and and you know violence but at the same time you know they do seem potentially like a good match and again you know the worst kinds of people are the ones that they you know murder is bad there are lots of bad there are a lot of different kinds of bad but this is arguably the worst you know is what we're kind of looking into here true and yeah I'm fascinated by yeah I've already mentioned what I think about this relationship but just going a little deeper into it I love what they're doing with her character I think the way she depicted of her experiences what she goes went has gone through
Starting point is 01:15:51 julia styles again acting her ass off phenomenal and tragic what i like not having seen it but like listening to her exposition was heart-wrenching terrible i could just in my mind i didn't want to see it but i could just based on what she was describing i think for dexter this is a fascinating thing because he's never going to get relief or he's never going to it this is somewhat cathartic for him but he's never going to get over what happened to rita obviously but there's a little bit of self-healing here in that he feels guilt because of course he there were times he could have taken out the trinity but he had several opportunities to and as a result of not doing it
Starting point is 01:16:38 rita is now gone he didn't know that was going to happen of course if he did he would have done that it was a domino effect the point i'm trying to make is i think the fact that he can not only as john just pointed out he's setting someone up on a righteous mission for the wrongs that were done to her that's i think that's all well and good but i think also putting someone in a position of power to where they never have to feel helpless or be a victim as well, I think is amazing. That's what Rita was. She was brutally, senselessly taken from life, and I got to imagine the Trinity did these awful things that happened to Lumen as well. On top of that, I'm pretty sure that's the insinuation. I mean, not the same MO, but certainly an intimate
Starting point is 01:17:23 violation. Yeah, they were violating they were naked in the bathtub. So I got to imagine awful things were happened on top of the cutting. So my point being is that I'm sure if Dexter could have armed Rita to the teeth in terms of being prepared in this type of way to
Starting point is 01:17:39 fight a guy like the Trinity, I know it would have been tough, but that would have I know that would have helped matters and I've been awesome but. Well, Rita is someone who suffered a lot of abuses and has had to overcome them. And so yeah, it's like Like, in accepting the idea of, like, I might kind of act as an avenging angel for someone like Lumen.
Starting point is 01:18:01 Sure. Symbolically, you're kind of, at least, you know, Rita went through that, and so there is a kind of symbolic connector point there. Sure. And again, he's not going to get over whatever happened to Rhea, but I think this is a somewhat cathartic and self-healing way to get over that as well as help another person. So I think he's killing a few birds, though, with one stone type of thing. thing and I think this is such a meaningful and has so much emotional weight between the two of them and their relationship. So I really am digging it so far and I think it's beautiful. And there's a lot of, just as I pointed out, a lot of emotional weight so far throughout their interactions. And I also, I like, I think the way they're able to balance it out with some levity and some humor, I think is really well done as well. Yeah. And I really appreciate, yeah, just the debate of like, I don't want you to move into this realm of killing and added whole new layer of, you know, layer of. darkness to your soul, but then also just this, you know, nagging sense that you'll never get relief and that whole PTSD attack at the airport. Like there's so many, yeah, like really evocative and really permeating things that they're playing with here. And I think the idea of him, you know, using his inclinations for this purpose is interesting because, you know, like with Miguel Prado, there's an echo of that where it's like, oh, we're going to take out these criminals. And here it's like, we're going to take out these, yeah, even like, yeah, like, yeah, again, the,
Starting point is 01:19:23 worst kinds of people and I'm going to use this fixation not solely selfishly but for some kind of greater good Miguel had trauma for sure from his dad but he was a narcissist and he did it for to to further his career and in that sense where this woman has trauma and is doing it to heal yeah so that's the difference but thank you so much christian for your question j rush what up jay closing us out question boxer shorts are briefs for dexter what masuka was wearing that's what dexter needs to wear yeah there you go he needs a little cheetah print thong or whatever that was man thong i want to see dexter wearing that i feel like dexter's more of a boxer shorts guy between the boxer briefs but yeah we're going uh speedos for everybody and then we got to have a competition yeah there you go iron man competition yes all right gang
Starting point is 01:20:16 This has been a tremendous season so far, a tremendous couple of episodes. Loving this season so far so much. I'm fascinated by what unfolds next. I understand it had the weight of having to follow the dark night or season four. It's not an easy task to do, but I'm really enjoying it a great deal. Is it season four? No, but season five is terrific so far. Yeah, absolutely.
Starting point is 01:20:41 I'm really enjoying it still, really enjoying what they're going for, really enjoying the guest stars, curious about where Peter Weller and all that stuff's going. Yeah, I'm loving this still. Going in a robotic suit after he did. Yeah, there you go. It's the secret Robocop origin story.
Starting point is 01:20:55 I knew it. He's going to go down under that bridge and just shoot every guy in the crotch. Yes. Look up that short if you haven't seen it yet. Oh, I got to see that now. Oh, yeah. It's wild.
Starting point is 01:21:05 This effects team. Yeah, they took that scene and they extended it and added a whole bunch of really specifically graphic imagery to it. And then after he shot, him he said to them all you've suffered emotional shocks i will notify a crisis center yes anyway thanks for joining us thanks guys we'll catch you on the next one be well die die
