Welcome back to Gen V Season 2 — the gritty, high-stakes spinoff of The Boys universe that follows the next generation of Supes at Godolkin University. As our heroes juggle alliances, secrets, and moral compromises, “Hell Week” marks the penultimate turning point before the season finale. In Episode 7, “Hell Week,” tensions reach a boiling point. Hazing rules are invoked as the Office of Student Conduct warns, “students should never be called demeaning names, forced to wear humiliating clothes, or treated like any animal.” Meanwhile, major revelations unravel: Dean Cipher (Hamish Linklater — known for The New Adventures of Old Christine, Succession) is revealed to be just a puppet; the real power lies with Thomas Godolkin (Ethan Slater — Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber, The SpongeBob Movie), burning through Cipher’s body to exert control. This twist recontextualizes his manipulations across the season. Starting point is 00:01:30 Thank you to Hewell for sponsoring this video. More on them in just a bit. Citizens of the Reject Nation, it is time to go back to college again. It is Gen V, episode seven of season two. We are diving into some insanity after a slightly disappointing for me, episode six last week. But an exceptional episode five the week before, we will. see where this one lands how are you gregg i am doing fine right now let's go with fine fine i don't need to give an explanation as to why i'm fine but i am just fine maybe i'll be great after we react
Starting point is 00:02:09 and then show uplifts physicality symptoms but i'm fine how are you john i am also fine i had a a rich weekend of cinema and friendship, and I'm ready to absorb some harsh satire now. Hell, yes. How are you, Coydus? That's a good weekend. I feel fine as well, a little overwhelmed. As of filming this, New York Comic-Con this weekend,
Starting point is 00:02:32 and I got another panel added to my plate this morning. I'm going to have a full schedule. It's very good news. Go see Coy. I'm going to be there three panels now near Comic-com, but that means your boy is drowning. So, very well, but I'm very much hopeful this is exceptional to keep us all from fine to exception.
Starting point is 00:02:49 let's bring it up i'd like to thank you guys all for engagement this video please continue to do so also please check out the patreon because that is how we are able to make these videos frankly with copyright strikes and stuff that is a really wonderful way to support the channel and you can also get 15% off teas like these over at rejectnation shop.com if you're a patron so you guys have been amazing about supporting us please keep it up we really appreciate it without further ado let's dive into gen v episode seven three two dramatic time remember that your value in this world comes and goes with your powers and without them you are nothing i like how this guy shows up in this show and he just takes over the whole thing
Starting point is 00:03:34 it literally is so charming the star of this show everyone had a year and he's like nah makes me sad he'll probably die by the end of the season yeah then what's the show yeah you think that's Thomas Godolkin? The answers to controlling Cypher could lie inside his head. So you think he could stop Cypher? If that's Godolkin, he can stop Holander. I want to shout out comments because I think the theory is true. Oh, it's Cyphers actually Goodolkin, so he's using the Cyphers body. Oh, that's cool. And that was like, that makes a lot of sense with everything we've seen so far. I had not considered that option. I like that comments. marie oh pre-cog called tom criss
Starting point is 00:04:24 oh jesus what where's marie who shots are probably way harder than they look to get done cannot imagine both actors like sinking that what is it i i saw something marie in trouble way in trouble how um blood blood and and she was on the ground Not moving Marie Marie Guys what the What the yelling
Starting point is 00:04:46 A little burrito Has anybody seen Kate She didn't sleep in her room last night Oh no Kate and Marie's gone too That Have we all noticed Our hair looks great
Starting point is 00:04:57 Matter how much sleep we get The spa last night right I need to talk to your grandfather Would he let us take his car I'll get him You want his car How do you think you're gonna find him Only Emma looks like she was sleeping
Starting point is 00:05:09 In the last five hours Oh, yeah, you do Okay, come on Sniper's place is like five minutes from here I don't like parking lots in boys universes Nope Marie we can cut through the trees so no one sees us coming Marie cake we're not talking about this again
Starting point is 00:05:26 If you don't want me here then why did you let me come Because you would have told the others what I was doing But if you heal me then I can make sure the guard doesn't stop us I don't like parking lots Yeah, voyeuristic angle I tried to heal you when your skull was broken I couldn't Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:41 You probably couldn't have saved your sister two weeks ago. Now you can. And you did. Got a point. And is manipulating her. I was so sure. I was better than all of you and stronger. I believed all the shit they told me.
Starting point is 00:05:52 That's how they get you. Ooh. I'm promising you, I will never use my powers on any of you again, ever. Hard thing to believe. Yeah. Now because you're broken. You're making promises. Thrice betrayed.
Starting point is 00:06:05 And I'm just supposed to trust. Sounds like a broken promise. That person as soon as your fix. That's her superhero. name whoa you'll see some how different help it's he in return grab some clothes and get out of the salmira shit oh oh thank god they're safe out of the parking lot oh you know one of those girls who feel more comfortable when a dude's driving are you what no that's a good that's a good joke sam and emma will get to marie fast and tell her what you
Starting point is 00:06:38 saw uh so so sam uh he flies he jumps he flies now he flies now because you haven't spent a ton of time around other soups no not really it's not always like this i mean 80% of the time but does seem like a violent difficult world the existence as soups how long have you had your powers a while since i was little wow i started having these nightmares it was every night for a few days they scared the hell out of me and then wonder if trauma ignited it when I first got mine I I hit them for a while to why I was afraid my dad wouldn't approve and I was right yeah but I'm glad I have them I can't imagine myself being me without them yeah oh whoa that's crazy they just cut too and she had like stream of tears I wonder if the other take was
Starting point is 00:07:28 because I was very yeah you and my sister you guys are girlfriend boyfriend girlfriend or something girlfriend they friend I thought we were why do you say otherwise because she left again yeah all she does is leave to protect me but they didn't say they were broken up where did they get those clothes they mug somebody else in the garage and their size took time to do the hair and everything that's where cypher kept him that's why she couldn't detect the blood in his veins and he stabbed himself you couldn't feel it Oh, damn. I was like, oh, this theory makes so much sense.
Starting point is 00:08:07 It really does. And that's why when Sage was making love, she was looking at him. Because that's who she's connecting with. Yeah. And there are no black people in the background. Yeah, that's the craziest. We just missed him. Oh, Jesus.
Starting point is 00:08:24 I wasn't that far behind Sipher. He must have just taken the old man with him. Why did he take him? I don't know. He's out of his mind. He wants to kill every soup he thinks is weak. That's a pretty Nazi thing to do. Everything is Nazi.
Starting point is 00:08:36 Everything is cool and you're a part of a evil regime. Magnetic pulse interrupts the neurons and I'll short it out by neural electrical activity. And if he commands dogs with the synapses, it boots me out of his brain. Yeah. Yeah, it's over. Oh, my. Oh, my. I think he was, he's talking about the theory.
Starting point is 00:09:03 It's still painful to watch Yeah Totally She probably just ended Oh Oh Oh You got text
Starting point is 00:09:17 You got text You mentioned cameras Look who it is Look who it is Marie came back Just like Sage said She can anticipate It may be time
Starting point is 00:09:30 For a very big sacrifice Oh man If you shaved his beard and changed his hair the right way, he would look like surge tanking. Did you come back here? All he wants is you. We think the man Cypher was keeping in that thing was Thomas Godolkin. Thomas what? You know at the school.
Starting point is 00:09:46 God you. God you. Edgar believes if we can get to Godolkin, he can take down Cypher. You're going to trust that Godulkin's going to help? Look, Godolkin could be the key to everything. Godolkin might be even more dangerous. I don't think we have a choice. No.
Starting point is 00:09:59 Ooh. I knocked him out of me. It's got to be a way I can do it again. He's getting weak. Knocking him out isn't the same thing as stopping him for good. And whatever you did kicked your ass, you look like he couldn't even stop me, let alone, Cypher. I can't... With what he did to Andre?
Starting point is 00:10:14 Oh, my God. He's having a seizure. Ah, dude, how would he possibly make it out of the season? Oh, buddy. Fix him. Oh. Oh, yeah, he can go to his brain. now do that to me yeah everybody got noseblee damn oh shit he gonna do some cool shit yeah is he about to make me know what up
Starting point is 00:10:47 what did you do how the trummers they're gone ha that's a great reaction damn i've been sick for so long i forgot what is like to feel healthy oh golly kate that's a beautiful moment she just healed okay we're in the quad wow so she can heal fast now yeah escalation's crazy on her power set give me behind that tree okay no peek i'm not gonna peek i'm not a purve you're totally peeking your purve yo sam where have you been it's hell week and you're totally shirking bro kind of has some other things going on yeah bro but we make time for what's important which is the brotherhood first and foremost yeah the brotherhood hampel's right i don't know you got like one job man we're giving you a pledge
Starting point is 00:11:37 oh my god to put through hell this week seriously i don't have time make the time it is your time oh my god you should now climb into this guy's this is sam he owns you now you hear me yes sir thank you sir oh no no okay Hempel is... Don't trust Greg. I don't trust him. I don't trust him at all. I thought you were fucking dead or something.
Starting point is 00:12:08 Things are somehow more fucked than before. I'm in. I don't trust him. We need to find Marie, like now. Have you seen her? No, I haven't. But I can do a flyover. I can see if I can spot her.
Starting point is 00:12:17 Here, let me take you up. You love the view from update. Getting homelander-esque. Yeah. Album cover. We'll keep searching the ground if you can take the air. You trust that guy? Die in the diaper.
Starting point is 00:12:29 no no sam yeah why everyone knows that he's deep but thought isn't he what fuck is that dude the guy's been institutionalized half his life you know everyone constantly this head look it's complicated yeah yeah that's honest yeah'd be willing to entertain complicated it's a big diaper it's for men see if he can spy marie i say we split up cover more ground and you and but boy hample ample i'm gonna check safer's room the dorm rooms and i told greg to meet us in the student you're in like 10-ish. Yeah, okay, well, I'll go, um, I'll go that way.
Starting point is 00:13:03 I'll just guy actually. I mean, she might not see it, but I do. Give me some ducks. I was gonna say, I hope that guy becomes useful, but I don't think we'll see. Yeah, I think it's just that one joke, but... There's a cool shot of polarity. We're gonna have to search his whole goddamn canvas. Marie, you're a heartbeat detector.
Starting point is 00:13:20 If he's hiding Godalkin, you can find him. If the campus was empty, yeah, maybe I could pick out an old-week heartbeat, but... Thousands of hearts. You need a heartbeat detector. If Cyprus hauling around a hundred-year-old invalid, somebody saw something. Yeah. And we do have someone who could read every mind on campus. Oh.
Starting point is 00:13:36 That's how she gets fixed. Risk is greater than the reward. I get after what she did to you, after what she did for Vought, but you risked your... To rescue her. She was in El Maira because of us. She deserved to be rescued, but that does not mean that I trust her. It's a good new one. She won't listen to reason on this one.
Starting point is 00:13:53 You've been right a lot of you? Yeah. I'm sorry. You used your powers against us. Against us. Me, Jordan, Luke. He manipulated us into this mess. You're the reason we were in El Maira.
Starting point is 00:14:03 You're the reason. Andre is dead. Marie! Whoa, what a thing to put on. I'm not making any excuses. But the Vought machine makes you do things that you never thought. Oh, of course he would understand. If you want to blame someone for Andre,
Starting point is 00:14:16 blame me. I didn't protect him the way I should have. I knew. He knew about the underground. I knew my powers were killing me, and I didn't tell him. Yeah. I didn't tell him the same fucking thing that happened to him. I can't trust someone like her with that kind of power again.
Starting point is 00:14:31 Anyone notice there's any other thoughts on how to find this. I'm open. It's a good debate. He's just calling the office. Marie, welcome back. Did Polarity tell you my offer, train with me, and you and your friends will have complete amnesty? He told me you want to call the herd, kill the useless soups. Oh, Marie, you're a dourbes.
Starting point is 00:14:58 Angry about what I did to your baby sister. You sliced open her throat. Yeah, and then you fixed it like I knew you would. You would never have achieved that level of power without that seminal moment. So, you're welcome, boo. Boo. You know you're better. You're stronger than the others. Embrace it.
Starting point is 00:15:19 Think about my offer. It's the only road out for all of you. Never seen a Marie is someone telling her. You know, you're strong enough to do this. You're stronger. Well. i heard the training room doors close he's there yeah this whole season's just like marie two more marie you're all you're believing you're more you more believe in your more believe step into your potential don't go to the training room okay you got help me out here what do you see it's tall pillars and then there's there's bars on the window and the seminar come why would suffer
Starting point is 00:15:50 kill her i wonder if she overdoes her powers and it kills her because that looks like her power is manifesting yeah i don't want whatever you are bondage baby they call us bondage And I know you're just trying to trick me. No, it's not a fucking trick. Go away. Well, that's just what someone trying to trick a bondage baby would say. Oh my God. Excuse me, what?
Starting point is 00:16:04 Yeah. Hey. No, Marie. No, K, it's safest place to the dorm rooms. On a positive note, I grew up close. I don't smell like wet donkey balls. Nothing from Greg? No, my God, dude. Not the time to be jealous, Sam.
Starting point is 00:16:15 Greg is a friend. No, but if I wanted to be more than friends, that is zero of your business. Greg could fuck me till he... Ha ha ha ha! This is all new to me. this is all new to me okay like like feeling i guess anything jealous yeah i think i need some time i need some time to work on it to try to be fucking normal oh i'm sorry i'm sorry i'm sorry i'm saying though he's trying though same you're not a really sweet scene too you're just
Starting point is 00:16:47 being you emma my man found her so i'm in our building wait you sure yeah i'll fly you over no that's okay man i got her it's no problem no i can jump way faster than you can fly so this dude is totally working pretty sure flying faster yeah he definitely found her way too fast or they want us to think it's correct but he's not really any but it might push him like sam and them together i think he's dying there must be a basement the heartbeat's coming from below us oh strange wait everybody's here team up you should have just it was safe you're gonna get hurt marie or worse if you go in there something bad is going to happen say you've seen it don't just say the look it's you and you're in a pool of blood and you're hurt you don't know that
Starting point is 00:17:37 um she can see the future but she's a precog who got herself caught by vaught thrown in a cell and her throat cut she didn't know any of that ouch dude before it happened with mom and dad i had a nightmare oh i saw them dying and dead in a pool of blood lived my whole life knowing i could have stopped It's been easier for me to hate you all this time instead of hate myself, but I hate myself anyway. Damn. Wow. That's huge. I'm so sorry that you've had to live with that. I am the only one who can wake up Godolkin. Stop Cypher, stop Homelander. So please, just go. And there is no changing her mind ever. I can't let you go in there. I'm sorry. Uh-oh.
Starting point is 00:18:26 Oh, now she's doing it intentionally. Ah, that's messed up. What are you doing? Whoa. If I heal you, you need to push them. Make them go away from here, will you do that? Oh, no, then they're going to... Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:46 That they're going to be mad or Kate. Kate manipulating them again. Oh. Marie, I said I would never use my powers against any of you. You have to stop. Marie, let them go. Yeah, you also just did the thing. What are you doing?
Starting point is 00:19:00 What are you doing, Marie? Pass the test, Kate. You keep cyber busy. I'll thank you, Doc. Cool. Luke Hahn struck. Guns? Lots of guns.
Starting point is 00:19:12 Lots of swords. What? Is that the shit you're going to use to call the herd? Man. No, they're going to use them on themselves. Cool. Oh! Let's go.
Starting point is 00:19:31 Oh, man. Come on, Polarity. You can't hurt me. I bet if I take your fucking head off, that'll stop you. That you'd be surprised. He is surrounded by metal swords. I was going to say, you could slice him up a good. Why don't you just like use the swords and pin him?
Starting point is 00:19:45 Mary, she really is something, isn't she? Where is, Marie? Not going according to plan, man. Did you scientifically figure out, typically figure out polarity you don't really think you're going to stop me do you all of you don't let him leave this fucking room a team fight all right Greg it's trying to prove your allegiance she said that could always us down like in a basement come on find a way down did they want to inhabit Marie's body oh like put her blood in his veins I figured out your little
Starting point is 00:20:25 Trick, polarity. You create changing magnetic fields to mess with nerve cells in the noggin. What's he talking about? If he tries to control any of us, I can stop it. Yeah. So I guess you don't need to be scared. That's how he did it. But polarity.
Starting point is 00:20:40 I wonder, have you ever played whack-a-mole? Oh, no. Oh, no. Oh, shit. You can knock me out, but the question is. Can you guess where I'll be next? Oh, my God. This team fight against him.
Starting point is 00:20:55 I hate it, but it's cool. Some of us is having the team was a terrible idea. Oh, I love that was Greg. That was Greg of his own volition. Can't trust him. Are you Thomas Godalkin? Wow. Nice.
Starting point is 00:21:15 You should just go for Cypher. Why are you wasting so much time? Dude, you're irritating me. I've surrounded my medals. mash life you're in a room of metal swords and plates and weapons friends of the reject nation i'm sure some of you already heard me talk about this how back in january of 2025 i was over 22% body fat and then by september i got down to under 9% currently working on bulking phase at the moment but a big part of that as many of you know you see me drinking on

Starting point is 00:23:11 And thanks for sponsoring this video. We're trying to stop the man who's been holding you, hurting you. If I heal you, can you help? Oh, my God. This is all Sage's plan. Yeah. Oh no, Marie. Heal him with a false sense of hope, then to discover,
Starting point is 00:23:31 this is the last thing you should have done. Yep. I bet this is what Safer wanted all along. Ew. Whoa. Ow Dude None of you should have showed up.
Starting point is 00:23:54 Yeah, man. Some of the top 10 soups at the school. If polarity, this effect looks amazing, but if polarity dies, I'm gonna be big mad. Yeah. I feel like you're only making him stronger now, Marie. Oh, let's go. Oh, shit. Is that him leaving Serge's body to go back home?
Starting point is 00:24:27 Marie. Marie. Is this it? Is this what you saw? Not exactly. We go. Oh, no. I'm actually kind of nervous.
Starting point is 00:24:37 Yeah. Oh, no. What's baby Godalkin gonna do? Oh, man. Dolcan's ripped yeah man that the dude from Wicked he did it that's ariana Grande's guy we need your help we need to stop Cypher is there anything that you can tell us I can't believe oh my god the pain is gone it's fuck I don't like it no nope nope no thank you no shots oh no no he's just a normal guy
Starting point is 00:25:17 I'm not him please I'm not him look I know this is really insane for you so my friends are big fucking trouble can you help us or not dude another diaper she was right she knew you couldn't stop yourself you had to come back here to be the big hero sage save everyone he believes in culling it's annoying how smart she is I'm Doug My name's Doug, Doug, Doug Brightbill, I got a cat, Buster. Like that we lived out of him, just read, Honda Civic because I had been fired from my job at Blockbuster. Oh, believe you.
Starting point is 00:25:53 No, please. Do you name his cat after Blockbuster? I just want to live because he's falling out of my head. Who's not in your head? Cipher? No, there is no cipher. This is him. He's just acting as a cipher.
Starting point is 00:26:05 Where's Marie? Does not be broken and useless anymore. Broken and useless. It's indiscuous. Our value in this world, it comes and it goes. Like a Voldemort scene. And without them, we are nothing. We have a Nazi reveal.
Starting point is 00:26:24 No, no. It's safer. What? He's safer. That's scary. Nope. Oh, damn. Cool shot. No.
Starting point is 00:26:39 No. Now that you've made a bigger villain. Doesn't the air smell amazing? Couple diaper bros. Fresh cut grass. Is that what I'm smelling? And the air in your lungs, it's... It's perfection.
Starting point is 00:26:52 Truly. We forget what something as simple as the sun touching your skin feels like. It's enough to make you believe there's a heaven. Ha. Why are you in a diaper, bro? I mean, you look way too old to be a pledge. What's your power?
Starting point is 00:27:05 My what? Power. Uh-oh. The culling begins. Oh, shit. It's my feet. I can turn my feet into hands. Oh, that's kind of cool. Technically, my big toes turn into opposable thumbs.
Starting point is 00:27:15 Hmm. You're definitely in the bottom 10% of rankings with that moronic power. Correct? Yeah. Yeah. Bottom 2% probably. There we go. Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:27:27 I hate that. Let's put a stop to this right now. Oh, no. We want gods to walk this earth. It's not circus freaks. yeah gods and monsters what a beautiful day
Starting point is 00:27:43 okay who's next poor bondage baby well he did serve a purpose besides that one joke it's true it can happen to you invisible frisbee and it's like a cape
Starting point is 00:27:58 yeah i like that it's like a villain cape but it's a blanket on a diaper man it's a really fun way to play with the superhero outfit trope yeah written and directed by Thomas Schnautz all right well that was episode seven of Gen V our penultimate episode of season two next week is the finale reveals were revealed rumors were proven true and lots of blood let's see let's start actually before we get to everyone's thoughts I do want to thank Prepper for making this possible it is a R rated show filled with bondage babies and lots of blood not an
Starting point is 00:28:31 easy thing to put on YouTube so Prepper thank you very much for chopping this up to be able to be on YouTube. John, what did you think of the episode? I like the episode. I thought this had a lot of really nice character-oriented scenes while also in a pretty fun and gripping way got us, you know, to the crescendo that will lead us to the end of the season and whatever transition into season three, I assume there will be. Yeah, overall, I thought this was pretty strong as compared to last week, at least for my taste, you know, this felt at least I was always locked into the character stuff and every actor who got like a dramatic you know monologue moment the thing with polarity i thought was great the conversation
Starting point is 00:29:09 between marie and and kate i thought was great um even just getting to see this whole other side of uh dug was uh really fun and charming and uh and yeah this it's funny like you know it's that moment where like now that you see i hadn't heard that theory of what the twist would be and then you know when you hear it you're like oh yeah the signs are freaking all here um but yeah i i quite enjoyed it and it certainly gave me a foreboding sense of what is possible next week with this you know godolkin out on the loose you got nazis yeah greg it's tough when you want to engage with comments because you're supposed to and then the part of my brain's going are now half the comments going to be mad at me for telling you guys the theory that a comment told you
Starting point is 00:29:59 that a bunch of comments said on our video because yes we were fortunate up to get screeners and at the time of us filming this it's only aired up to two by five six is not aired yet yeah yeah six is not aired in real time of us filming this and i think it was around four or five when that theory was starting to populate the comment boxes i don't think it's a i remember it now that i've seen that reaction i think it was in three or four i think it was when we first had the the cypher godulkin like first beat down so i think it is something that's been out for a few weeks it's been out for a few weeks and it's funny we theorized it in Yeah. Yeah. So it's just a fun twist of things to reveal. And yeah, compared to last week, I think it's so much better. It's so much more engaging. Compliments a little bit more things that occurred last week. Elevate them, I should say. You know, Marie leaving off with Kate kind of amount into something.
Starting point is 00:30:59 Good drama. I think. Then they all got back together real quick. Now I got back together. Trying not to sound like an asshole right now. Because, yes, John? Yeah, there's something odd about the plotting, but, like, the emotional resonance is, like, way greater. That's an isolated singularity episode.
Starting point is 00:31:19 It's pretty strong. I like the way the ending reveal plays out. This is an episode that's supposed to sort of leave you with its final moments, and its final moments are very strong. It feels very Baltimore-esque in the way it goes down, like Goblet of Firelike. And I love the performance of the other guy. I don't know if I'm going to love it more than the main guy we've been following. We said that earlier in the episode.
Starting point is 00:31:40 You're like, this show. I mean, it's crazy how he took over during the recap. It's like, well, now he's gone. Yeah, like how much stronger now is him when he's in his actual form? Because it seemed like he was able to do all these things by transferring himself into this random guy's body. So if he's able to do it already, is it just stronger now? Like, I'm curious to see how that plays out the way the cleansing goes. And I really appreciated this scene with Annabeth and Marie and Annabeth confessing that she had actually had a premonition of the whole thing that caused their rift, that caused her divide, that they both equally share this traumatic memory in a lot of ways where they both feel responsible for their parents' deaths.
Starting point is 00:32:26 And yet it was easier to blame. I like those grieving nuanced touches, and it was more of a scene that I'm glad we got because I was wishing we would get it last week. And I like how Marie's rather stubborn. You know, there's like a couple of scenes where its characters trying to convince her to do something, whether it be go heal Kate's brain and why,
Starting point is 00:32:48 or, hey, don't go into that room. I saw a premonition. And in any TV show, nine times out of 10, the character will come around. And in both scenes, which are kind of back-to-back, Maurice, you know, stays for a course and she doesn't let up. So I love doing a characterization like that
Starting point is 00:33:04 that goes against the norm. I do feel like there's something kind of off in terms of like this season as a whole with the way some advancements go and there's some stuff that I feel is very repetitive. But the strengths of the experience of this episode outweigh whatever cons,
Starting point is 00:33:22 personal cons I was feeling that come to mind. That's the end. of my spiel i really like marie's sister anabeth's reveal that was cool i really like when a twist can re contextualize an emotion and we have had maria's our lead for two seasons and the basis of marie to me is guilt like she is always thinking about her family she's always thinking about her sister she was looking for her sister for a year and a half on this show and three years total with you throwing the boys there just as far as our experience with the show so to add the level of Mary Beth knowing and having her blame her sister as a way to cope really is so human and I really
Starting point is 00:34:03 like that twist because I like when a twist doesn't change everything. It just recontextualizes something. And I think that it a really good job there making that emotionally resonant, but also then getting right back to stubborn Marie. Like I thought that was really effective to be like, oh my God, this changes everything. Okay, let's go over there. And it didn't feel like it undercut it. Like they took just long enough. And then it went on. to the rest of the plot so that that was really cool like b plot um it made mary beth's uh introduction how it was and all that stuff really hit for me more um it's weird i you know you guys know i'm a weekly release guy there are some episodes that i wish were like paired but that'd be such a weird
Starting point is 00:34:40 release model i feel like if five and six no six and seven were paired i would have liked six a lot more and i feel like six and seven felt like one complete thing because my big issue with six was you know five was a cliffhanger going into the prison break six was like and we're out of prison like it just happened and then six kind of felt like it was just setting up for marie to leave and then when it's marie left i was like i don't know if i really feel like that would be something she'd do in this episode it does feel like there's a reason for it so that pair of episodes does make my negatives about six stronger but seven to me is still about like the average gen v episode so it is much higher than i've held about six um and this show's good like we cover it for a reason
Starting point is 00:35:22 i'm not saying average is bad but this episode is like back to the the high bar that is bought tv so i really liked those and i like polarity um i do wish they hadn't had a master of magnetism in a room with metal not wield more but um you know yeah that was a that was a huge like okay what's what's it's gonna happen and then it never happened there's almost enough to be like well he's like kind of overwhelmed but i'm like he clearly has like a quick second between getting you know pummeled or shockwaves or whatever they could have yeah there is like an action movie trope or like you know you're fighting jacky chain you do it one at a time and like i felt that vibe but if you add that plus magnets i'm like man there's a lot of metal um but and even why was he
Starting point is 00:36:02 gonna stab him himself he's a magnet anyway um it is a much better episode and it sets up a really cool villain i really think godalkin's a great slow burn i really think going into the finale we've got some high stakes of like a homelander power level marie plus this like infinite power villain And I really, my favorite thing about the outfit is, it's kind of like Magneto's outfit. Like, 60s comic characters wear diapers and capes. And they kind of did that. And that was really fun because it's very GenV, very the boys of them, to turn something like a superhero fit into a joke and then to have a bondage baby commentary on it. So all that stuff really works for me.
Starting point is 00:36:42 Most of my negatives are kind of episode six as negatives that weighed this down, but this was good enough to elevate that. So I like to. i'm kind of wondering if i'm how do you guys feel about the sam and emma stuff i think that's going to be the finale like that emotional because they've had some will they won't days i like that the mirroring of episode four what was the first episode with jung carlo was that that was last week oh last week i like the mirroring of episode six is meat cute between them was him being arrogant and like aloof and then this episode was him growing emotionally so those two scenes were almost exactly the same conversations but one with maturity so i liked this episode being the same talk of like i'm
Starting point is 00:37:25 working on it versus like hey girl um i still feel like there was a lot of there's something skipped over to have gotten to that point though with them i think that's why it's gonna be a three deep thing right like it's gonna be the hey girl and then i'm working on it and then a thing that's what and i think it's greg that's a weird thing about this season is like i like i really liked that scene in the cafeteria where he's talking to her and like, I'm weird and I just want to be normal and yeah, all the stuff we've been through.
Starting point is 00:37:51 And it's this, like this episode and the last episode I think are a good kind of metaphor for the season overall because yeah, it feels like there are the beats feel a little more scatter shot and a little less fine-tuned in terms of pacing. But in an episode like this, there's really great writing
Starting point is 00:38:08 and nuance and acting work and stuff that shows you what the vision would be if it was all done smoothly so it feels like you're kind of oscillating between watching like a really well-rounded show and then watching a show that's like almost there and it
Starting point is 00:38:24 for me survives on the strength of like I like the idea of what they're going for and especially with you know Sam and Emma that's been a kind of slow gestating thing over the course of the season so I at least I don't know I appreciate what they've given those characters to go through and especially Sam and especially this idea of Like, Emma isn't trying to, like, just bring him right back into an old dynamic,
Starting point is 00:38:48 but she is the one person who's willing to be like, hey, you know, like, this guy's been manipulated and, like, you know, imprisoned and abused most of his life. Maybe we should create some grace, you know. And I think that's well handled. I also think that part of it is, like, a functionality thing because I think we all suspect Greg. And I feel like there is, like, a nuts and bolts mechanical aspect of, like, we need this thing happening and then this kind of like vague dream boy
Starting point is 00:39:16 over here so that maybe next week we can have some kind of major conflict or a fight or something between them. I guess, yeah, sure. I don't know. It doesn't seem like they're like an emphatic like main point of what we're doing here. I just feel like that plot point came in out of nowhere with him like wanting to get back
Starting point is 00:39:32 together with her. It does feel a plot convenient. I don't feel like it was like placed in prior to that episode. And now they're like second half of the season riding that. he's like super jealous guy i'm like you guys been gone for like apart from each other for a long time and nothing there was nothing really to rekindle strong that was a yeah rekindling of chemistry or relationally and now he's just back and he's also like seems extremely normal and healed i'm putting a lot of weight in this finale healing at least yeah and i don't know if it's just the idea that
Starting point is 00:40:04 you know there's so much stuff we have we cover and then we come into this weekly because we're not binging this that polarity moment when he's healed i don't know why it feels like it got there her level of strength the show if that's where i'm at odds of myself because the show definitely justifies how she developed her skills to skyrocket to where it's at right now there was something in that moment though where i found myself questioning the the casualness of the level of power of how she did it and it seemed to not really make a moment like a huge this is a thing that polarity's been struggling with for such a long time and it's a quick reclamation to it like he gives such a great reaction as an actor in that moment but it felt a little bit quick for me these episodes are really short that yeah that felt like the end of an episode moment that would be like whoa and then week to week you wait yeah instead it was like well that was just to level up to show she's gonna do it to a do it to a dull And then rediscovering his power and what he can be at at full health instead of just charging in superhero-like. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:41:17 Sometimes I feel like there is some missing beats for me. And it's hard for me to put my finger on the pulse when we immediately talk about it. Some shows that it's easy for me to do. And then other shows, I have a harder time finding the words like I have been today. All I know is I got like inclinations of moments or something. So it's kind of off to me in this moment. and I don't quite know why, outside of taking more time to let this thing, you know, cooking the pot a little more or something. I definitely feel like this season is a little uneven compared to season one and the boys.
Starting point is 00:41:50 But I think moment to moment, the emotions are strong enough in the average episode that it's like that quality. Yeah. But I definitely think when I stop and look at stuff, I'm like, I don't know if that really, okay. But I'm emotionally invested enough that I don't, unless I'm analyzing, feel that. Yeah, I like the tension a lot of the last few minutes, but overall, I'm kind of, I feel a little bit indifferent a lot of the time when I'm watching stuff happening in the show. I'm not quite there, but I understand how you're there. Because there are moments when I'm distracted, and I'm like, that's weird. Well, it's little things, too, because I don't know, like, it's all fiction and power scaling, yada, yada.
Starting point is 00:42:28 But with Marie, I guess part of me each time is like, I, expect her to be more depleted given like the magnitude of what she's doing and granted she's not bringing polarity like back to life uh but that i don't know being that this is like the what second or third time she's you know healed a thing in any capacity i guess i would imagine it to be more of a energy drain rather than like quick we got to move on to the next place let's go to god godokin right you know and she's like kind of that way after she heals him because that's like so extreme but even then she's like kind of on her feet and they just carry her out
Starting point is 00:43:05 but she brought her sister back to life I feel like that would be more harder than healing Godolkin that was a dead person yeah because like neither him or Sefer or Polarity are dead so yeah it's like seems like she had a lot of like damage to repair but you know
Starting point is 00:43:24 like a loss of literal life is like Trump card of all what is do you guys understand understand the power when she when other people are in the room and then other people are starting to bleed I don't understand what's happened I don't know what happened to Kate well that happened too when she was healing Annabeth and then yeah everyone was bleeding and their heads were hurting I don't I don't know what's going on it just doesn't have a control of like the residual blood in the room as she's focused like
Starting point is 00:43:49 it's it's affecting all blood maybe okay maybe it's yeah some kind of like blood bubble yield of energy or some kind of I don't know yeah I don't mean I'm just the debby downer let us know in the comments what you think about the blood bubble let us know what you think about debby downer is greg like in the show a traitor mr mr cynicism over here you still say you liked it mr nitpicky apparently you still say you like it to defend that i do like it you're just looking at the things but it's one of those yeah it's it's a season where it's stronger in individual episodes and moments than maybe the overall grace of the you know episode to episode story it was not as good as five which is my favorite but it was better than
Starting point is 00:44:29 And that was the bar I set. We started this episode fine. And by golly, did we finish it fine? We'll be back next week for the Chen V season two finale. Let us know in the comments below what you think is causing other people's heads to get all rumbly jumbly. Do you think that Marie is going to fix Kate next week? I'm enjoying the Kate arc a little bit more than I'm enjoying the Sam arc. And I feel like they started in a similar place.
Starting point is 00:44:49 They're giving Kate a little bit more time to develop. So I'm curious where that relationship goes next week. Do you think M and Sam get back together? Do you think Mary Beth and Marie get to like walk away into the sunset as brother, sister-sister. Let me know in the comments below. We'll be back next week for the finale. Like this video.
