Thank you so much for joining. I love her. I love that her name is Crippin. I find the best way to describe it is if you can imagine your
Starting point is 00:04:03 body as a highway and you picture the virus as a very fast car. Imagine the damage of that car could cause. Then if you replace that man with a cop. Like Osmosis Jones? The picture changes and that's essentially what we've done. How many people have you treated so far? Well we've had 10,09 clinical trials in human cycle. Wow. Sheesh. So you have actually cured cancer. She hesitated a little bit.
Starting point is 00:04:29 Yes, we have. It seems great in theory, but something tells me this is going to go great. There's no great for you. Yeah, right. Dang, that's a lot to happen in three years. Because, I mean, if you're repurposing a virus with another virus, some things can go terribly wrong,
Starting point is 00:04:46 and then if people could die. Yeah, a little bit. especially since viruses mutate yeah whatever this is wild though oh it was christmas time look the christmas decks still up this is a christmas movie oh oh i've never seen new york so empty and quiet yeah weird i have whole tarps over whole buildings that's that's a lot of material you didn't get that much material oh cool car willard oh puppy it's a man in this dog oh my god he's so cute oh it's a shelby Wow

Starting point is 00:18:45 Because that thing can turn into something. We saw the wolves do it, the dogs. This low light with the darkness is very effective, very, very tense. Always. In every horror movie, when they just do the flashlight to light up the world, I hate it. It's so intense. Whoa, that's a lot of money. Not useful now, but.

I don't like it. Keep experimenting on her. I really don't like it. Day 1001, blood tests confirmed that I remain immune
Starting point is 00:22:57 to both the airborne and contact strains. Mm-hmm. Vaccine trials continue. I'm still unable to transfer. for my immunity to infected hosts. Crippin virus is... Crippin virus. Elegant.
Starting point is 00:23:10 That's the name of the doctor in the beginning. Oh, yeah. Just fishing in the dark, son. Behavioral note, an infected male exposed himself to sunlight today. Mm-hmm. As possible, growing scarcity of food is causing them to ignore
Starting point is 00:23:26 their basic survival instincts. My God, his stomach is so wild. I'm gonna say you hungry, girl? I haven't eaten. Oh. Social de-evolution appears complete. Typical human behavior is now entirely absent. Damn.

Starting point is 00:25:47 Wow. Eesh. It's my birthday. We are fully confident that Dr. Neville can see us through their day. I'm a survivor living in New York City. I will be at the South Street Seaport every day at midday. if there's anybody out there you are not alone this fish pond what the hell that's moving that had moved yes it did yes it did oh snap if they're out during

It looks like a mannequin. It does, but like I swear when he looked like the head moved. What the hell are you doing out here, Fred? If you're real, you better tell me right now.

Starting point is 00:28:30 Dumb. That was real dumb. That was really, this is not good for us. This is not good. I'm okay. That was extremely unfortunate. I ought to probably lifted myself up that way. I'm not falling on my back like that. Yeah, protect him, buddy. Yeah, you better get in the sun. I guess if that's what you're doing, what are we doing here? We've got to get in the truck. Yeah.

Starting point is 00:37:22 Robert knows Shrek is love And that Shrek is life Oh, he's in his own house? Yeah. He's in his own house? Yeah. Okay. So she brought him. That's right.
Starting point is 00:37:40 He's interesting how prominent the audio of Shrek is. Oh, he's went cuckoo. Oh, he went cuckoo. He saved him. No, okay, never mind. Oh, yeah, somebody saved. Somebody did save him. I know, but at first, that was his kid and his wife.
Starting point is 00:37:56 And I was like, he dreamed the whole thing. But no, he didn't. Okay. Is that the chick from Suicide Squad? She's from a lot of things. She works a lot, but I can't think of her name right now. Who are you? You're a nurse?
Starting point is 00:38:10 Or a doctor? I'm Anna, and that's Ethan. Hmm. We came from Maryland. We heard your message on the radio. We were at the pier at noon. We waited all day. Oh, that's why she had the light.
Starting point is 00:38:23 She was ready. There's a whole colony of people there who didn't get sick. The virus. Who didn't survive the cold? There's a whole... Oh, whoa. Deep. Bud deep.
Starting point is 00:38:35 Bro, clearly not. People are in front of you. They're right in front of you. I just need a minute. Okay. Just... It's been through a lot. I was saving that bacon.
Starting point is 00:38:51 For what? I just, I'm gonna go upstairs. All right, just, let me go. Go finish your bacon, Ethan. Good kid, way to grab a weapon. Incredible. Are you talking to me? Huh?
Starting point is 00:39:12 I don't have any friends. And I'm not going out there by myself. Hey, winter, I got a great idea. I'll stick with you. They're like, what the? Fuck. Who's this port machine think he is? Andrew, come on.
Starting point is 00:39:27 They're not so good with people anymore, are you? Obviously, not. It's been three years, pretty unsocialized. Where have you been? I was on a Red Cross evacuation ship out of San Paulo. Five of us were immune. I said five. Yeah, where are the other four?
Starting point is 00:39:42 The Dark Seekers got them. Oh. Dark Seekers. You are the Robert Neville, aren't you? Stated your name. on your little radio every time if you leave tomorrow at dawn we can make it to vermont straight shot so if you're not leaving this is ground zero why would we need to be in ground zero bra i'm not gonna let this happen but it's already happened bobo
Starting point is 00:40:07 you're cuckoo bananas now you can't it's literally what you said three years ago on that dock oh what is growing around her it freaky Scare me. Sorry. I called down twice. Oh, thank you. That's a heavily sedated. Don't go near it, though.
Starting point is 00:40:33 It's not. No, this will almost certainly kill it, but it's possible by drastically reducing the body temperature. I can increase the compounds effectiveness. Okay, I like that. Oh, those are all... Oh, he's got a bunch of them. He's gotten a lot.
Starting point is 00:40:49 She's beautiful. What's her name? Willow Smith. Her name was Marley. Marley's such a cute name for a girl. Yeah, we named her after Bob Marley. Who? Have you not heard of Bob Marley?
Starting point is 00:41:07 Come with us, Neville. Yeah, I would still want to go over the compound tower, colony, or are she saying? There's no colony in. you gotta prove it to him call on the radio or something there is a colony I know okay how do you know Anna so you've been there
Starting point is 00:41:31 I just know how do you know how could you know because she has faith God told me God told you yes I know how this sounds sounds crazy but something told me to turn on the radio
Starting point is 00:41:46 yeah she found you all right let me tell you about your God's plan six billion people on earth KV had a 90% kill rate. That's 5.4 billion people. Damn. The other 588 million turned into your dark seekers. And then they got hungry and they killed and fed on everybody.
Starting point is 00:42:09 Mm-hmm. Every single person that you or I has ever known is dead. You know, I put it out there. Bro, she's right in front of you with her freaking kid. he's afraid to hope also just lost his dog so yeah in his state of mourning what you mean what is that it's the same every night buddy was it still dark when you brought us home last night we're bleeding there was light on the horizon oh you she didn't put vinegar on the doorstep turn it off turn it off oh no they saw the blood oh shit oh shit okay now what do we do
Starting point is 00:42:51 Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, UV lights. That's right. There we go. That'll at least deter. Oh, God. Or not. Oh, nope. That's a lot. We are scrood. All right. What's our backup plan here, buddy? Explosion? Anna. Are we going to get up there and she and the kid are not going to be there?
Starting point is 00:43:29 And he stitched it up himself. I'm going crazy now. This movie is making me crazy. Do they escape? What is this? What is this? What is this? What is this, though?
Starting point is 00:43:41 What? Do one make it in? Ah! Oh! Ha ha! Couple made it in. Oh, snap. Shit, shit, shit, shit.
Starting point is 00:43:59 Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Okay, come on, come on, kill him. There we go. Oh, oh my God.
Starting point is 00:44:17 You better still have that screw. driver oh no okay yep you're a terrible shot oh god that was bad god shoot him this is christ you're shooting him in such a close range you're shooting him in such a close range you should be able to hit him like I'm just like I'm just like Like, you've been practicing, right, buddy? Now we shot the window out. That's not good for us. Can't stay here now.
Starting point is 00:44:57 It's all fun to save place in a closet somewhere. Maybe they're in the bathtub. Maybe he warned them, the bathtub. Oh. Ew. Oh, my God. You're crawling out the... Oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:45:10 Oh, smart. Smart. You're just going to try to tear your way through the next building. Don't make a sound, kid. Come on, child. Headshot, headshot. Come on. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:45:34 Find a freaking lead. Jesus. That took way too long. We can't stay here now. This is when you say, okay, come on, we're going to Vermont. Yeah. You okay? Yeah, we got to get the fuck out of here.
Starting point is 00:45:49 Yeah. Oh. It's weird how they all look the same. They got some differences. It just all happen to be bald. Uh-oh. Come on, sir, and forget. Oh my god.
Starting point is 00:46:17 Oh my God, that's why he was pulling at the roof to let him in, smart like that. Is she cured? Is she carrying? Oh, my God. Okay, well, how do we get those fuckers to be cold enough for the thing to work? Oh, not for long. We are, oh, my God. I can save you.
Starting point is 00:46:45 I can say, I can help you. You are sick. Well, not anymore. They're ruining everything in there. Let me save it. This is where we die, buddy. You don't have enough ammo in there for you guys. Maybe hold her up and be like, I'm one of you.
Starting point is 00:47:07 I mean, he's going to get through. What are you doing? Here comes the sun. Oh, okay. I thought maybe because the sun will hit them, but now there's like a butterfly look at that it does I was kidding
Starting point is 00:47:23 I was like I just ignored you I was like I don't know what the fuck he's talking about no it was like the zombie idiot idiot yeah idiot idiot that's her husband he's trying to send a message because she made a butterfly
Starting point is 00:47:45 she has a butterfly Oh, boy. So dumb. I think this is why you're here. Oh, to take the vaccine and then he dies. They're not gonna stop. Stay until dawn. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:48:03 Oh, a secret grenade. Nice. He could have made it in there. He could have gotten there with them. I mean, I guess he could check it out, crawl in the hole, but like, I don't know, I don't know. I took the pin out, the grenade when I got it. Oh, what do you say that song?
Starting point is 00:48:27 Whoa. It's a cool shot. That looks like Vermont. I've never been, but that's what it looks like. Beautiful. She was right. She's looking at a couple. I know it.
Starting point is 00:48:47 She found it. The continuity of that car being so clean, it does bug me right now, but it, like, that's okay. It's not even continuity because we hadn't seen before. It's just set deck should have dirtied it up, I think. It's rolling through the car wash during zombie apocalypse. Priorities. Like, that car's way too clean.
Starting point is 00:49:13 The couple lot of day. Oh, wow. Look at it. This is definitely like the last. was right here look that yeah a deadly virus burned through our civilization pushing humankind to the edge of extinction oh what a sweet little border collie on september 9th 2012 he discovered that cure and at 852 he gave his life to defend it or his legacy this is his legend wow of it light of the darkness damn okay oh those are the quickest movie of
Starting point is 00:49:46 ever watched okay guys so we just finished watching i am legend thoroughly enjoyed it it was a very quick reaction very quick movie very well-paced but um before we get into some patreon questions and potentially looking at the alternate ending terra how are you feeling i feel good it's a great great movie good stuff i mean are we going to watch this now or after the patron questions what are we doing okay let's let's get it now we're gonna like yeah it's i am legend just for the editors it's a fandanga movie clip it's just i am legend alternate movie ending so you guys can find that and it's four minutes we'll start it now watch the alternate ending right now here we go open the door please open the door for them
Starting point is 00:50:43 Interesting. I need to get a syringe. Oh, he's going to, like, prove. Oh, they, like, knew each other? Okay. This is love. I'm taking it. Oh, wow. Okay.
Starting point is 00:51:16 Interesting. Hmm. I'm sorry. All the ones he experimented on. Aw, little lion cubs. Keep your radio on. Listen for our broadcasts. You are not alone. Alone, there is hope.
Starting point is 00:51:44 Man. Keep listening. You are not alone. Okay. I like this. All right. I like it. Do we get a lot of questions?
Starting point is 00:51:57 Let's find out. All right. All right, guys. We just finished watching both the original or the theatrical and the alternate ending to the film. So we have some patron questions to get to. and the start of soft hair? Yeah. All right.
Starting point is 00:52:15 Let's get into Landon Miller's question. This movie's a regular rewatch for me. It really stuck with me. Ever since I saw it as a kid, I just wanted to ask what moment hit you the hardest and why do you think it's stuck with you?
Starting point is 00:52:30 I think it was the scene where he was, it was between two scenes. One, when he had to kill Samantha. I was really sad. Or the scene where he was in the shop and he wanted, heard her to say hello and just like his desperation and to connect was really just really touching
Starting point is 00:52:49 and really sad yeah i would i would definitely say the hello part um because it's like the the time when he saw frank which we all thought was real too they did something of that mannequin where he kind of moved but when he had to like shoot up frank you're like oh god he's like really losing it and he treats frank that mannequin as his friend like so I think there's a lot of things in this movie that sort of stick with you. Should you end up in a zombie apocalypse? You're losing your mind. Do you treat mannequins like your friends?
Starting point is 00:53:21 You're desperate just for someone to talk to you. And yet once that does happen, he kind of has like a weird response to it at first, you know, which is very normal. Yeah, I know. Because you spend so long believing something that are wanting something that when it does actually happen, and you have a hard time accepting it because you've been so disconnected for so long.
Starting point is 00:53:46 And yeah, it made sense to me what he would be that way. And it's sad. I'm happy that there is an ending where he got to potentially go on and experience some life and reintegration into society, at least teasing that possibility. And, you know, even the confirmation of the girl and her son being there shows that there is life beyond what you've experienced in the past three years so yeah he did get that hello did that get that conversation and in both versions but um yeah i think that
Starting point is 00:54:19 best answers your question as far as what uh what made us feel our feels the most yeah totally jdell if you're in neville's position had the entire empty city to yourself what's the first thing you do to stay sane build a routine like he did try to find other survivors or just explore the city while you still could i would probably watch movies like he does if i have electricity by some miracle i'd probably have video games and be able to someone's a routine to not go crazy but obviously you know only stay after in the day because the freaks come out at night yeah i would definitely be going around the city finding every weapon, ammo that I could, all the UV lights, uh, and all the food.
Starting point is 00:55:13 But then I guess after a while, if I did that, then I get, yeah, I would just hang out and watch TV and I guess hope that I would find some markers and some paper somewhere. I'd explore. Yeah. Like, what a snooze it would be. Yeah, but think about it, he went into that other apartment to look for, for items and whatnot. And there was so much in there. I think he could use, which is like, that's kind of cool.
Starting point is 00:55:38 There's so many places you could probably like scavenge and kind of go through. I think I'd be really dope if I was in his position. Totally. Yeah. What about you? What did you guys do? Let us know. Malik, if you were given Roberts Arsenal supplies and his safe house, do you think you
Starting point is 00:55:52 would have made it as long as he did? And if given the opportunity, would you've left Manhattan altogether to try and find a human safe zone for a better chance? In the city, if I had his bunker, yes, I would probably, you know, I would keep a Yeah, be smart about it. But I would for sure leave the city if I had the opportunity. Yeah, 100%. Yeah, like, duh, for sure.
Starting point is 00:56:15 I think, well, it's a weird question, Malik, because we don't know if we're immune. So I'd be like, yeah, probably the same. But if I wasn't, no, dead after five minutes. Oh, yeah. Let's face it. So, but I do think if I was, like, immune, I would be able to live in his, like, safe house for, like, a minute.
Starting point is 00:56:34 I would very rarely leave unless I really, really needed food. Why would you ever? Yeah, I wouldn't. All right. J. Dale gave us some trivia. The production shut down seven blocks in New York City at a time to film the deserted scenes. One of the biggest street closures in New York's history for a movie. Wow.
Starting point is 00:56:54 Okay. Okay, because I was wondering how they got some of the footage that they got because it looked really good. and the times they were driving through, it looked practical versus obviously the zombies of CGI, you know, old school CGI. But overall, I thought this movie was great, greatly, like really good pacing, greatly paced. And I'm glad that it was just like 93, 95 minutes.
Starting point is 00:57:25 Plus, we watched the alternate ending, that's fine. It would have only added on like an extra five minutes. It's like pacing, with they're not you don't have to drag anything out i don't think like anything took too long i feel like it was very precise and to the point of like we need to watch what happened before and how does someone get through this and what happens to that that person as they move through life like this um i thought was really realistic and smart yeah which uh which ending did you like okay so the alternate ending i had an issue with that he would be able to just drag her out there and be like well
Starting point is 00:58:10 they're not going to eat him or the girl and the kid because you're bringing one of theirs out we didn't establish any of that really in the movie i did pitch though when he was in that room to be like hold her up to the wall and and maybe they'll be like oh she's one of us um I think that the ending that they went with was a lot better. That was a good move. That alternate ending is, it's hopeful, and I like that. I like that they survived, that she went on the radio. It's a nice callback to that.
Starting point is 00:58:47 But, yeah, what are you doing? I'm just turning it down because I want to watch as you talk. Oh, okay. Because I think maybe some stuff we're missing possibly, because on YouTube it's nine minutes. Yeah, but this is everything we watched. Yeah, this part is the same. And if you fast forward, it's like all,
Starting point is 00:59:06 even when you were fast forward, it was like all the, anyway, alternate ending is like they, they, uh, he drags out to, right? He goes plexiglass and then she gets it open. He's in there. They're coming out. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:59:23 Anyway, I liked the ending that. they went with. I think that's the one that makes the most sense. I don't believe that we would take as much time in assuming that this female zombie that he's somewhat cured is going to be the answer for all of these dark seekers. It's not going to be. They're going to be like, I'm still going to want to eat your face off. The fact that somehow he would have known that that was the lead guy's wife or something, we just didn't establish any of that. I think it's a lot more Romeo and Juliet and realistic to have him have a grenade and go, you get out, this is what you're here for, take the vaccine. They're not going to stop. That is realistic. They're not going to stop is what
Starting point is 01:00:13 he told her. And that's true. They need like, they need blood. So somebody had to come up with something and him with, you know, the grenade and be like, all right, I'll take him out. Great. The alter ending to me, I was just like, I don't know about this. I actually prefer the alternate ending.
Starting point is 01:00:34 Okay. Yeah. I think it's because it re-contextualizes the movie that we've watched because you realize that they're more sentient than we thought. Not only that, but they've established like a sense of community within their version of life and we never see them outright attack or go after Neville until he's
Starting point is 01:00:59 aggressed them because when he was trying to kill himself he went after and like mowed a bunch them down so they were coming after him to get revenge and when he found himself in the side of the building it was to get Sam I imagine they thought he was impeding on their territory right so when he finally gets face to face with one you're like yo you kidnap one of our own And then you see him on the wall, like, oh, my God, I've, like, killed so many of their people. Yeah. Right. So I think that that is interesting.
Starting point is 01:01:30 Yeah, it is. It makes you question, like, oh, who's actually the monster? You know, even though they're not what we know is humanity, they're found like a new semblance of life within this new state. And, you know, he's going to go off and discover his own sense of life and new life in the revelation of discovery that they have their own version of life. Yeah. So, yeah, I like that take on it. And I'm curious us to know, like, why they changed it. Or what was the, I don't know, maybe it was like a test screening thing.
Starting point is 01:02:03 I don't know. If I was a producer, I'd say grenade 100%. That makes it, like, so much more sad and realistic and, like, harsh. And, like, would we really be able to bring her out there? and they go, all right, we're not going to get, like, kill you know, you're free to go. Well, again, that's under the assumption that they're savage and their zombies. Yes. And I know that they're still putting that, oh, they're sentient.
Starting point is 01:02:31 They're just there for their person or whatever, their girl. But I'm like, well, I mean, this one, this version is like, okay, they're just zombies or just like mindless kind of doing whatever. The other one seems like, okay, maybe it's like a little bit more intentional, which, you know, I feel like, again, this scene changes the, the context of the journey you've been through. Yeah, I think both are valid. You know, one of them's a sacrifice play. And, you know, this is the ultimate ends to the means, you know, about saving humanity, which was his goal the entire time.
Starting point is 01:03:03 The other one is we can save humanity and have a new sense of life for myself. Totally. Yeah, but I had fun. I thought it was a great, a great film. Yeah, I had a great time too. All right, you guys, let us know if you like this movie, which version of the ending do you guys like? And what are your reasonings for that? us. And yeah, without
Starting point is 01:03:21 not further ado, but yeah, that'll be it. That's it. We're leaving now. Bye. Adios.
