Greg Alba & Tara Erickson react to Percy Jackson and the Olympians (Episodes 3 & 4) — the next thrilling chapter in Disney+’s faithful adaptation of Rick Riordan’s beloved fantasy series. These episodes dive deeper into Percy’s quest, expanding the world of Greek mythology with new monsters, major character introductions, and the escalating mystery behind Zeus’ stolen master bolt. The series stars Walker Scobell (The Adam Project, Secret Headquarters) as Percy Jackson, who fully steps into his role as Poseidon's son while learning what it truly means to be a hero. Leah Sava Jeffries (Beast, Empire) shines as the brilliant and determined Annabeth Chase, daughter of Athena, while Aryan Simhadri (Cheaper by the Dozen, Spin) brings heart and comedy as Grover Underwood, Percy’s satyr protector and best friend. Episodes 3 & 4 cover “We Visit the Garden Gnome Emporium” and “I Plunge to My Death,” introducing iconic characters and quests from the book, including: Medusa, reimagined in a powerful performance by Jessica Parker Kennedy (The Flash, Black Sails), as the trio confronts their first major monster; The gateway arch battle, featuring Percy’s first major solo showdown and one of the most famous sequences in the entire saga; Growing tension between the gods as Percy begins to understand why he is at the center of a brewing divine war; & Deepening friendship dynamics among the trio as Annabeth and Percy clash, bond, and learn to trust each other. Citizens of the Reject Nation, we are here to watch Percy Jackson and the Olympions season one, episode three and four. We got to get a recap. These provide recaps, right, Tara? I don't remember. Well, I remembered enjoying it and it was ramping up with some good stuff. How are you feeling today? I'm good. I'm good. I'm good. I got my she-jacks the new she-jacks sweater on that's fun um and yeah i don't feel as tired as they normally do so that's a plus all right good that's a good plus yeah it is what about you did a lot of how what's it called wilhelm not willhelm winham the breathing guy the norwegian
Starting point is 00:02:17 breathing guy there's a breathing guy i didn't know i was like does he know did he forget how to say words oh is that what you do like a 10 minute breathing exercise yeah you got to watch the video It calms you down. That's going to wear you out. I did a lot of it, and I feel a little bit better. Really? I don't. I have some medical conditions I was open up to tear about before.
Starting point is 00:02:37 Yeah. And here I am, Mr. Weight Loss guy with a bunch of medical conditions that did not stem from that. How ironic would that have been? Sure, it should be fat. We would have been like, see, this is why you don't work out that much of why you don't have 27 abs. It's not normal human. It's not good for you. It's not good for you.
Starting point is 00:02:57 It's not normal. Anyway, you know, it is good for you guys if you leave down in the comments why you love this show and why you guys should buy a she-ject sweater. Tell us. Rejectation shop.com. Scan the barcode right here on screen. You can get a she-jack sweater like this or any one of the many real rejects apparel. And anything you get from the she-jack line, Terry gets 0.5% of every dollar spent. It's true.
Starting point is 00:03:23 It's true. And she divides that 0.5 up with Roxy. So she gets 0.25. and then of course taxes included so she gets roughly around point 10 point yeah
Starting point is 00:03:32 yeah I was going to say even point one five but point 10 probably makes more sense yeah it makes more sense to the problem but point one five is more realistic number
Starting point is 00:03:41 yeah and another way you can support the channels by going to patreon.com slash real rejects or you become a royal reject yeah
Starting point is 00:03:48 full length threats and watch along where you sync up with your own copy of Percy Jackson and the Olympians available for all you sexy mofos and you also get
Starting point is 00:03:55 50% off any apparel at Rejagnation shop. Which means I get even less. She gets even less because of the discount. Anyway, guys, you're ready to hop into this Tara Erickson? I'm so ready.
Starting point is 00:04:10 As long as she doesn't take it out on me. All right, guys, get ready to sink up. In three, two, one. It's freaking, oh. She's still alive Cool Very cool
Starting point is 00:04:34 All good stuff These are all Easter eggs from the book I bet Oh yeah Which we didn't read I never will Yeah I'm oh that I don't want I don't want whoever that is
Starting point is 00:04:50 It's creepy as hell I'm Percy It's nice to meet you What the i was told a quest isn't a quest until you've said so god she just knocked out she was awake a second ago you in five years terry don't get your car work oh i'm so tragic Spooky green. Ghost stuff.
Starting point is 00:05:27 Oh, my God. Is she actually hot? Oh, she's like the red Christus. Oh, come on. This is not fun. You shall go west and face the God who has turned. He's a New Yorker. And you shall find what was stolen and see it safely returned.
Starting point is 00:05:45 Oh, he's rhyming. Yorkel has confirmed what we expected. Okay. I thought it was going to be a naked woman. Toward the underworld Where you will confront the god Who has rebelled against his brothers The entrance to Haiti's domain
Starting point is 00:06:00 Lies under the city of Los Angeles That's why we're all wrecked Oh man Our most compelling Candidates from which you Will choose two to join you on this quest And ensure that we succeed I've never seen a show that looks
Starting point is 00:06:19 Both cheap and expensive at the same time I'm kind of actually with you on that. It's like both. Like, it totally is. I don't understand how they did it, but they did it. This thing, Seuss's Master Bolt, we need to get it back, right? Yes. And it's going to be hard to get, yes?
Starting point is 00:06:35 Perhaps. Extraordinarily. And if the mission required someone to push me down a flight of stairs for it to succeed. We would do it. We would do it. You want someone who won't hesitate when they do it. Annabeth. Indeed.
Starting point is 00:06:46 The first quest mate shall be Annabelle. Hell yeah. Damn straight. She'll push her. you down a flight of stairs. Let's go. Sheffling his poop. Yeah. That's what we have to do with the bathroom for Aaron every day.
Starting point is 00:07:04 Who'd you choose to go with you? You. Funny. No, seriously, who'd you choose? You, man. It shows you. Give it a program, buddy. Why? You shall be betrayed by the one who calls you friend. A Judas? And fail to save what matters
Starting point is 00:07:20 most. Why go on this question? West. Yeah, that sounds awful. But he's going to be the one to betray you? I'm going to pack the best snacks. I like him. But isn't the Oracle, whatever he says, it's always right? I hope not. I don't know, man. An Oracle sometimes says some shit for you to find your own true self and realize that you had to find your own path and not just listen to M. Waugh. Wow. I don't like the Oracle and the Matrix. Look at him go. Oh, yeah. I love her. Um, $200 in cash and Bag of these. Two Honda. Love it.
Starting point is 00:07:55 I think they're Canadian, maybe. Nice. Some junkie cheese, I don't know. They're golden Drogamas. Nice. For human world. Drogmas for Mythic World. Don't mix them up.
Starting point is 00:08:04 Drakmas for Mythic. Okay, got it. Yeah, I can remember that. No, you won't. I can remember. Drakharius. Serica Harris. Nice kicks, man.
Starting point is 00:08:13 Cool, converse, bra. Interesting. You don't like him? Why not? buddy my cool oh sweet that's awesome that's awesome expensive right expensive shot baby look how expensive that practice i can't even tell about cj practical looks a little bold no cg no cg what an epic shot behind him i can't let anything stop me and i'm afraid if it gets in the way of the quest animeth might try to and told me you'll always
Starting point is 00:08:46 be on her side no matter what and it's okay Okay, really, I get you. This guy is so understanding at all times. Yeah. Just take care of each other out there. A little weird for like a pre-teen or team, whatever age he is. Yeah, your friends are your own age, man. Like, how old are you on the inside? Fifty-five.
Starting point is 00:09:05 So, at the last moment, Zeus intervened to save her life and changed her form. The most powerful being. All right, got it. Okay. Best idea to save his daughter's life was to turn her into a tree. That's right They set that up in the second movie But we didn't really watch it
Starting point is 00:09:22 We didn't get it Yeah Heroes quests are world-defining events That's so pretty They have made and broken empires Look how much better to York is Altered the course of human civilization Change the balance of power on Olympus
Starting point is 00:09:38 Yeah don't ask Greg to come to New York He'll never come back He's a really hard time coming back I hate coming back every time He hates it There's no way this is what sacred smells like we're soldiers on a mission it's not a vacation thank you for clearing that oh my god sorry i assume someone had told you what tell me what percy it isn't just the monsters
Starting point is 00:09:59 who are going to be trying to stop us you're a forbidden child oh zeus might decide to take a shot at you himself this guy is his domain would be serving you up on a silver platter to try to travel through it oh yeah no one mentioned either that's from the book or they needed to save money yeah they were like we can't We can't travel. We can't do a plane. You'll stay right there. Why? It smells terrible back here.
Starting point is 00:10:24 Monsters can't smell you through that. I want to vote. There's no voting. Please. Can you help your... What? I really don't want to be a tiebreaker. Is he just clapping?
Starting point is 00:10:34 I have a better idea. What is he doing? Oh, golly. The road's getting bump. Oh, I see. A little road trip music. Is it music? Is it?
Starting point is 00:10:45 Getting through it. Singing this song. What are you doing? just go in the bathroom bra you got a bathroom it up you get a few rounds in and you'd be amazed at how disagreement's just kind of please don't let us get a few rounds in please no grover everyone's against you on this man chips and soda's okay for you guys whatever yes please our voting system's broken oh god why is she she has an idea how is this gonna help against i mean when you're a kid on the road oh my god amazing villain definitely villain Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, red hair.
Starting point is 00:11:19 Red, red, red, red, a dad has a scarf thingy. Monsters can't be avoided entirely. She also looked hot, even though with glory. You can't trust the hot woman on this show. You really can't, you can't. Before they spot you. Shoverhead and did those Citos. It's true, they are more likely to sense a more powerful Demy God.
Starting point is 00:11:39 Mm-hmm. Child of the Big Three is at the most extreme risk. But it isn't your power exactly that draws them. It's more complicated. than that you smell fear that's bees some are better at sensing your inadequacy some your need for glory it's important to remember that if you've ever got to confront one oh fucking do that in front of everyone yeah right oh nothing will stop to them malali if you guys were better at your job i might not have noticed you here so easily if thalia were better at hers there might not be a family of squirrels
Starting point is 00:12:14 making her their home sick burn bars Either way, now, it would seem that you're exactly what they say you are. The pride of Athena's offspring. Perhaps the most formidable demonic godchild alive. Really? Yeah, I need to, like, see something that really lives up to that. Lure him off this bus where I can take him quietly away from so many eyes. And your quest goes on and impeded it and unburdened.
Starting point is 00:12:38 There's the whole purpose of the quest. Yeah. We both know isn't going to be of any help to you and maybe even a defense. Oh, is she talking about the other one? Grover. Yeah, Grover. Oh. Look, I'm not against the idea of consensus.
Starting point is 00:12:51 I'm just not sure the song is doing what you think it is. Guys, you need to open that window. Now. What? No. Oh, oh, wow. Windows open on a bus. Everyone.
Starting point is 00:13:07 Leader belongs and exit the front of the bus. Can everyone else see her? No, no, no. Okay. He's dallas his rule. Right. Okay, right. So from their perspective, that some dude, does she just come?
Starting point is 00:13:27 Hey! Oh, oh, whoa! The most formidable demi-God. Oh, okay, I'm seeing it now. Somewhere up ahead this turns into a Seder path. What's a Sater path? It's a road through the wilderness. If we stay in the wilderness, how are we going to
Starting point is 00:13:47 find a phone what we need a phone for so we can call cam my understanding this show is extremely accurate to the book oh really more than the movies and so people really love this there's something about it that just kind of reads a little bit i'm trying to understand what the love is for it because i don't really feel like emotionally pulled by anything that really happens right like we're three episodes in it's a little slow it's a little like of a flat line and i'm waiting for it to really pick up in terms of just something being propulsive or having some real momentum or like really pulling us in which they haven't really done yet what was that supposed to me afraid of who i am i'm not afraid you are you aren't just a kid you're a special you are part of something so much big
Starting point is 00:14:31 than that we can understand right now you don't want to call camp fine at least let's call your mom excuse me oh someone's afraid to i'd call my father but we aren't exactly on speaking terms You and your mother seem close, so why don't we ask her for help? Grover, will you explain to your friend that he needs to pull himself together? You can't ask her, can you? Guess on. I don't know why you keep pulling him into this. He's on my side.
Starting point is 00:14:54 What makes you think that? He's my protector. It's his job. He was my protector first. What do you mean first? Grow, Reverse, speak up. All you look and Annabeth had a sater protector. That was you.
Starting point is 00:15:07 Why didn't you tell me? Do you guys smell that? Grover, I'm not kidding. No, neither am I. Just shush. Hamburgers. A campsite. Gover.
Starting point is 00:15:17 What are you doing? Somebody's making hamburgers in the middle of nowhere. That's me anytime there's bacon-wrapped hot dogs. Whoever it is. Here in LA. I can smell them from a mile away. And I'm like, oh, they're this way. That's where my car's part.
Starting point is 00:15:33 Oh, come on. Oh, these hamburgers must be really alluring. Auntie M has a garden full of petrified stone folks. This is someone from our world, all right? Anyone want to guess what Emma is? short for? Spooky. Let's get out of here. Please.
Starting point is 00:15:48 Oh. You should have accepted my offer when you had the chance. Offer, what offer is she talking about? But she didn't. Not today, friends. Not on my doorstep. Oh, she hid.
Starting point is 00:16:00 If you have something to resolve, why not come inside and I'll help? Oh, she's like you. She'll turn you to stone. Look at her. Well, I wouldn't think you would. Damn, that sucks because she looks hot. She failed to
Starting point is 00:16:13 retrieve the son of Poseidon how did you the forbidden child has been claimed how long did you think that secret would keep yeah i mean everybody knows your business around here kid i'm medusa that's her name yeah that's right the snakes in the hair percy don't expensive she's a monster i'll choose who we make our monsters but right now that one wants to tear you limb from limb and i'm offering you lunch choice is yours i'll take lunch oh for lunch man for sure i think we can trust her what my mom used to tell me her story point was always she isn't what people think and i definitely trust my mom so i'm going it'd be funny if one of them was like okay but what kind of lunch i left snacks on the table while i get something proper those are so oh okay
Starting point is 00:16:59 this isn't proper that's how she's gonna kill percy with diabetes you're concerned i would hold a grudge against you simply because you are a daughter of a pina shouldn't be and you and i might have more in common than you think you're just going to stand there the whole time anabath i don't like bullies when one shows up on my doorstep they end up spending a lot more time there than they planned for that's so much isolation it was a curse you are loyal to your mother yes you stand by her always even though she abandoned you do you know the story of how i came to be this way i do you we would like to hear yeah tell us Athena was everything to me I prayed to her. I made offerings. She never answered. I wasn't like you, sweetheart. I was you.
Starting point is 00:17:48 And what could she... But then one day, another God came and he broke that silence. Okay. Your father. You see, God told me that he loved me. I felt as though he saw me in a way I had never felt seen before. Wow, that's all tethered in this very room. But then Athena declared that I had embarrassed her and I needed to be punished. Not him, me. Well, that's unfair.
Starting point is 00:18:12 that I would never be seen again by anyone who would live to tell the tale. That sucks. My mother is just. The gods want you to believe that, that they are infallible. But they only want what all police want. You are a liar. I think she's telling the truth. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:27 Something's burning. Would you give me a hand in the kitchen? I think lunch is ready. Gover. Get ready to run. Run. The second she called her a liar, Medusa's demeanor did change. And I was like, eh, what's going to happen here?
Starting point is 00:18:40 but i i don't know why is she baking so much there's so much food there's so much unnecessary oh it's kind of like i mean a little bit she is but that was a lot she's going to betray you oh she's the one what do you care your mother and i were like sisters in a way targeted by the same monster so i find myself feeling protective of you my mom never talked about my dad that way she didn't talk about her dad that much your mother is she safe no she's not and do you trust your friends to help you to make her safe i could help you remove them from the equation oh wow he's got an inverse offer compared to what anabethcon if you ask me to i like the music oh yeah okay okay he's loyal good job kid oh those wasted hamburgers i know that's delicious
Starting point is 00:19:34 shit old thing of mac and cheese too like what I like the way they're teasing it, though. Yeah, like not. Yeah. A little close-ups here, or there. It looks really great. Oh, no. Oh, you got to find water, kid,
Starting point is 00:20:01 because then couldn't he just go, shit? That's a little spooky. That's cool. Wow. She has really. turned a lot of people to stone down here we split up she can't be watching this all at once i don't think it'd be that simple it could be you guys started to oh boy okay um so we're gonna need a new plan we are not our parents until we choose to be
Starting point is 00:20:28 uh oh you two have chosen oh man a whole bunch characters reside in these boxes a daughter of a self-righteous mother who chose self-righteousness for herself. That is really when I ship your statues to Olympus maybe that will get my point across even better. Let's have a look at you. Let's fight with your eyes closed. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:57 Man and Percy took the chance on her because he trusted. Oh, he's gonna open his eyes. Oh. Oh. Oh. Now. Oh. Oh. Oh, nice, smart. Wow, oh my God, did he just, okay? Did you hear that? Are you okay?
Starting point is 00:21:18 Go get the hat back to make sure she's dead. That quick? Oh, man. Set her whole head. Barely. Make sure is pointing in the right direction before you take my hat off. How do we're not going to know. You could touch the face.
Starting point is 00:21:40 Oh. As long as it's facing. Stone her. Nice. Oh wow! That was a great effect. Expensive right there. He really is the one. We probably should get going. It'll be dark soon. What do we gonna do with the head?
Starting point is 00:22:03 You should carry it with you. I just took down a fury with it and I wasn't even trying. We can't just leave it for someone to find. Yeah, take it with you. Leave the hat on and buried in the basement. What? No. It's a weapon.
Starting point is 00:22:15 Take you with you. Yeah, bring that head with you. Everywhere you go. What the heck? You could have saved your mother. Is your mother still alive? She's with 80s. The hat was a gift from her mother.
Starting point is 00:22:23 It's the only thing she's ever possessed that connects them. That ought to matter to you. No, okay. His mom's alive. Can you imagine how confusing that must be for him? Yeah, exactly. He may have to choose between the fate of the world and the fate of the only person who's ever cared about him.
Starting point is 00:22:37 Why are you talking with this? Grover never cared about him. Because all. I've been trying to keep this quest on track without upsetting either of you. But maybe things need to get a little upsetting before they move forward. I guess so. What are you so afraid of? What are you talking about?
Starting point is 00:22:50 You heard me. You've been fighting with her. You've been fighting with me. Because the Oracle said one of you would betray me. Well, everything is just coming out in the open. You shall be betrayed by one who calls you a friend, and you shall fail to save what matters most. What if they're both like, oh, no problem. I don't consider you a friend.
Starting point is 00:23:06 I was betraying. I'm betraying this book. I don't know what to think or who to trust. well you did good kid you opened up just for ethnic friends I didn't mean it that way I looked at the offer to help request if I gave you up to her
Starting point is 00:23:20 what did you say well obviously no right I killed her sister but this offer dealt me save my mom if I turn to the two of you what'd you say I got off her head yeah why are we asking what did you say
Starting point is 00:23:30 I mean it's like there was like a question that was asked and it lasted like two seconds didn't like really affect how any of your dynamics played out No It didn't even affect Like the immediate adventure we're on Hermes Express
Starting point is 00:23:45 She ships these things all over Someone that goes to Olympus You can't ship Medusa's head to Olympus Why not? Why not? Because the gods won't like it At all? At all, at all
Starting point is 00:23:55 Why are we have to satisfy the gods? Yeah, why? Send them back where they came from Okay, look, this is a bad idea You do that with batter? I just accept my fate Oh, I lost money Medusa tried to derail our quest
Starting point is 00:24:11 She's got serious beef with your mom When you look at it that way It seems kind of like tribute or something That's why she makes a lot of beef This way Part of your mom's still with us Yeah she was You are never going to ship your hat
Starting point is 00:24:27 That's what I was like It's so ridiculous that she even Someone even said like Leave the hat will bury it I'm like what She didn't even seem like conflicted though She didn't and I'm like That's your freaking your thing
Starting point is 00:24:37 You're going to sing the song, aren't you? Okay. Oh, golly. The roads get bumpy. Okay. It's supposed to been around. I mean, the Hamilton went on Disney Plus, so they must be buddies. The best you can do.
Starting point is 00:25:07 Oh, okay, yeah. All right. Well, let's... Let's go to the next episode. Let's do it. Let's see how it progresses. Reject Nation, when we launched this channel, I thought learning how to film and edit will be hard.

Starting point is 00:26:52 percy come on buddy you're made for this kid like when they always cast younger they're like we need to have him have the exact same hair yeah that he had that have 10 years later from now He never changes his hair stuff. One day, it could be really important,
Starting point is 00:27:11 and I may not be there to help you when that happens, so I need to make sure you can do it. Breathe. Breathe. Just breathe, Mommy. That's what you always tell me to do. Well, then you just breathe and start swimming, kid. Come on now.
Starting point is 00:27:25 You'll always be here. No, that's sad because she won't. She's not. Oh. Cool. It's a fun transition. Sad, but good. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:27:40 I remember in the first episode, really liking the mom stuff a lot. Yeah, that really pulled me in, actually. What sort of trouble are you up to now? A forbidden child attracts attention. Did he have this vision when he was a child? Uh-oh. She is coming.
Starting point is 00:28:03 Oh. I wonder why he'd try. Grumped that as a, like a... As a kid? A boy. Hey, you asleep? Talking to the one snoring. You and Dahlia were really close, right?
Starting point is 00:28:16 Yeah. What was she like? Why? She was the last forbidden kid before me, right? She must have dealt with the same kind of stuff. Mm-hmm. She was tough. I mean, she knew she was a forbidding kid.
Starting point is 00:28:26 She just didn't care. Cool. She didn't give a fuck. The way the gods want us to think. Got a burn an offering to get a parent's attention. Got a beat upon Clarice just to get my father to admit he's my father. That's your life. It's a problem with children these days.
Starting point is 00:28:44 They're so spoiled. That's what you said. This is just normal, right? That's just normal. You want to know how I ended up alone on the road in the first place? Yes. I started out as a gift to my father. What is that?
Starting point is 00:29:01 I don't, what? We're born from a thought in her mind and then giving to a partner and she feels connected to it. Weird. What? For a while, I was treated like a gift. Oh. My father cared for me.
Starting point is 00:29:12 Temporarily. I guess so, until he didn't. And to her, I wasn't a gift. That was a problem. So I left. I was seven. It isn't the gods who think that way. It's everybody.
Starting point is 00:29:23 She gets it. She does. You awake? That's a cool shot. I am now. Thanks. Are you okay? He's super grouchy when he doesn't get enough sleep.
Starting point is 00:29:34 Ditto. He'd never been on a road with him before. A little different than Foofee boarding school. Who's Fruffy? You're Fruffy. What's Fruffy? Exactly. What is Fruffy? I think I need to eat. I'm going to bring that in.
Starting point is 00:29:49 What the hell is that? That was weird. How will we have any idea where we're going? No idea. But that's like step 37, and we're still on step four. Cross that bridge when I get there. He's not grumpy anymore. Yeah, he's fine.
Starting point is 00:30:03 Back in Jersey, I told you the Oracle. said this quest would fail and no one's mentioned it since seems like something we ought to be taking a little more seriously seriously look at that are those centaurs cool there used to be herds of them everywhere what happened to them humans what do you mean do they kill him a few thousand years ago the god of the wild pan disappeared and ever since without pan to protect the natural world humans have been trying really hard to chip away at it all right the bravest saders volunteer to become searchers trying to find pan okay none have ever returned your uncle we found medeusus there is so much lore yeah that they just

Starting point is 00:33:02 Sadly, and fly out. You're going to have to bear the burden of your parents' mistakes to death. Oh, she knows. I don't know who you are, but I think I know what you are. We've run across a few monsters like you. We've sent them all packing. We've sent them all packing. Monsters like me.
Starting point is 00:33:20 Well. Oh, yeah. Release the beast. They were my children. Children. Oh. Uh-oh. Mother of monsters.
Starting point is 00:33:30 A kid. Oh, there you go. Is this going to be the... Okay. If I exist for anything, it is to stand in the way of monsters like you. Okay. Oh, it's just a matter of perspective. Are you afraid yet?
Starting point is 00:33:47 It's all right. Fear's natural. It's also essential to the hunt. That's not Angela and Jolie. Idiot. After her divorce. grow because oh that's what a good mother does for her children i like her please don't kill her off she's so enjoyable oh oh is it a squitty thing ow oh dude oh it's tail oh okay so even this monster

Starting point is 00:37:12 No we need to keep in the water She's coming The water That's spouting up Oh Okay I thought maybe we would go to the spout Where is there an altar?
Starting point is 00:37:24 The highest point, the best view. Okay, but what good is that even going to do us? We're going to get to the altar, and I'm going to ask my mom for help. All right. Would she? Guys, did you hear that? Hear what? Never mind.
Starting point is 00:37:38 Just getting inside. What did you hear? She spoke to you. What? Electra did that with me back in the museum in New York. What did she say? Spit it out. I think that was the chimera.
Starting point is 00:37:48 How did the chimera even get inside here? How did any monster get inside here? Annabeth. Yeah, are we not in the right? right place what did it kidnest say to you she said my impertinence wounded my mother's pride and that that will be my doom oh i'm the one who sent the head to olympus i signed the notes and i went along with it it embarrassed her now she's angry what are we gonna do these parents are assholes so what are we going to do about it kidnap they'll be up here any minute and if my
Starting point is 00:38:16 mother is the boy to protect us then we'll just have to fight it out up here okay no no no make it the chimera is the demigod killer someone has to stay back to slow her down and buy everyone some time oh so she's going to stay back okay that makes she's the ultimate fighter help him down the stairs and get him to the river and don't stop not see you get to hades you could just go to that broken fire hydrant right across the street oh the thing short head toward oh yeah take this wait it's not going to work this well okay I mean it's a sword but it won't work oh oh my man yeah I was like he's not gonna work the same for her let's go buddy no kid you're growing on me quite a bit
Starting point is 00:39:12 well he's certainly gonna try whoa it's kind of beautiful that looks cool don't fight it you'll just make her angry that's a great design home it looks awesome incredible amazing oh she's strong we need water oh oh she has fire in her mouth oh god oh no how do we get past this Oh, okay. This is where we look down that hole for the fire hydrant, kid. Oh, the shoes! The shoes! Is he wearing the shoes? Jump! Fly, the shoes. Grover is still?
Starting point is 00:40:06 Grover still has him? Dang it. Or he can burn down that hole. Yeah, that's true. That's true. Yeah, he doesn't... Catch him, Grover. Oh, no, he does have the shoes, right? He was giving shoes. No, I didn't see. red shoes on his feet so unfair doesn't grover know when he's in trouble anyway always whoa oh i don't like this point of view wow wow awesome hey that was pretty sweet that was cool
Starting point is 00:40:50 that was sweet that was cool i actually got some chills right now was cool nice oh oh you're stuck no no oh what are the odds breathe under there dude you are frightened your father sent me to tell you it's all right listen just breathe yeah you can breathe your father is here he's always been here it is so hard for him to stand back to see your struggle it is so hard for us all is it really I'm so very proud okay well why didn't he help then actions are very conflicting with this message agreed trust yourself the beginning of this the mom was saying to breathe just breathe right now there you go nice
Starting point is 00:41:54 all right that's cool all right Tara we've watched Percy Jackson we sure have and the god of thunder and you know stuff stuff
Starting point is 00:42:09 prepper I hope you made us look okay considering we probably upset people by being honest about how we were thinking and feeling during this you know how people are on the internet thank you so i only like your honesty when it's positive i don't hate it
Starting point is 00:42:30 pointed out of positive i think yeah but we have to express when it's not fully jiving but i thought it it's best moments out of this are all in the last like 10 minutes 10 15 minutes i was like i agree that was a very good at least we ended off on a good note there which got me hopeful about what's to come in the future part but uh yeah
Starting point is 00:42:52 All right, sweet. Good to know. But Tara, I'll go to you first, man. What do you liking about it? Let's start there. Well, you know, I like that we've introduced new characters. I mean, Medusa came and went. And now we have Kierna and Chimira. I forget the names.
Starting point is 00:43:13 But, like, I really like her as an actress. I thought the effects were really great, even with Medusa's hair and all of that. and the tiger horn thing is great. I still feel the chemistry with the three kids. I just wish there was a little bit more. I wish the pacing was a little bit better, that it picked up a little bit more,
Starting point is 00:43:40 and there was more of a sense of urgency because they are being tracked by monsters at all times, like 24-7. But I think it's fun And I really liked This ending part of like Just Breathe and it was a nice callback to mom at the pool And I do miss
Starting point is 00:44:03 I'm glad that they put the mom callbacks in there Because I do actually miss seeing him with his mom Because I thought that those scenes And those acting moments were really great Yeah So yeah My favorite edition was probably the Echidna woman Yeah, Echidna is her name
Starting point is 00:44:20 Yeah, yeah, yeah Because her character, at least the portrayal, I feel like she brings a good, lived in essence to it. Like the Medusa, the person plays Medusa did the same thing, but in a different variation. And these actors are tasked with something very, very difficult, which is to either explain their backstory or explain some lore. and it's up to them to paint the picture where we can see it without them having to cut to it. You're a very random example.
Starting point is 00:44:57 I don't know how well you remember Terminator Part 1. But Kyle Reese, the one who's saving Sarah, he's often tasked with these monologues about Skynet and the future and here's where he comes from. And the reason that works so well, is because when he's talking about it, you can see he's seeing and feeling it.
Starting point is 00:45:22 So it easily paints a picture for you as an audience member where you don't feel like you need to cut to whatever they're talking about. And the direction of the way how a lot of this overall tone and pacing is kind of this one level. We're not seeing it. There's not much of an emotional range in a lot of the scenes and dialogue. and it doesn't seem to and sometimes it happens in
Starting point is 00:45:50 bursts or a random moment we're like well there's it's there than this scene but a lot of the time it's not so when there's like an escape scene or a fight scene or they're being tracked there's there's something
Starting point is 00:46:05 within the way the kids are directed that kind of lacks either fear intensity excitement like I don't feel like a heart rate you know when you're in a situation like this
Starting point is 00:46:21 you want to be like oh god do you got to get away from the monster yeah and it's it's one thing if one of these characters is like that because of who they are you know the like I guess Annabeth would make the most sense and the other two could be scared and like we got to go because I get Percy is something
Starting point is 00:46:42 And he's just kind of like kind of takes it all. Then with the same level of energy, he takes everything in. Yeah. Yeah. And that's why I liked his final moments here in episode four because I guess because by giving him a physical ailment to work against, it allowed him to provide a different range to his scene that had a more of an intensity to it. Because, yeah, I feel like that's what these scenes are missing. because the same energy
Starting point is 00:47:14 of when they're just chatting on the bus is kind of a lot of time the same energy when they're being chased by a monster and because of that the show the show needs variation in its energy levels in order to be gripping
Starting point is 00:47:28 and it's never quite reaching that height and I feel like the closest they came was like the last 15 minutes last 10 minutes or I'd say so of this episode 4 because yes that's my main issue
Starting point is 00:47:42 is lack of range and dynamics and direction with that because it'll have its cool shots, it'll have its cool moods, it'll have its great visual effects, it'll have its occasional, really good scene. But more often than not, I am feeling like it's a little listless
Starting point is 00:48:00 in the way some of it's going down and that's the only part. Because people really like love this show and I'm more here scratching my head going, why do, why is it, Why do people love it, you know? Like, I get if you like it. Like, I would say I'm overall, like, fine with it right now.
Starting point is 00:48:18 But I'm not particularly enthusiastic, which doesn't bode well when you want people to keep watching your videos. Yeah. But, you know, it's the way I feel right now, you know. Well, it's like when you read a book, you get addicted to the characters and you're having, like, you remember the lines and the stuff that they're saying and you kind of know what's going to happen. And I feel like maybe people in you saying that this is very similar to the book, that they're like, oh, I know what's going to happen next and like we're going to see the chimera. And maybe that's why? Because they've already gone through this exposition and the lines and what they're saying and how it goes in the book, in their own heads. So they are already feeling maybe that anticipation and knowing what is going to come next. That maybe they just thought, we don't, we don't. We don't have to feed into that emotion because most people who are watching this have read the book or something. But no director and or actor or really a producer at any time should just go, let's not feed into it in case the general audience doesn't, it didn't read the book so they may not feel the anticipation.
Starting point is 00:49:30 It's like, no, you do need to feed that if it's on camera. And sometimes, though, you know, when they want to go for like really serious, that's self-serious, that's self-serious. It can come across is not intense, but dry. Yeah. And I think that's where I'm feeling more sometimes it's kind of a bit of a dry run. You know, like sometimes I feel like I'm watching a proof of concept than I am watching the actual thing that got, you know, produced. Right. You know, right.
Starting point is 00:50:03 I'm watching a thing with, like, potential to be picked up and become something bigger than it. yeah and uh and and there's yeah that's that's kind of my main quam with it because you know a lot of the structure's the same they talk they bump into a monster and now they're talk again we get some lore dump yeah we fight the monster monster talk more dump yeah let's explain more lore you know but there's no I just keep going back to the same words there's no like emotion there's a lack of emotion you know and it just needs range and that's that's the main part that's missing for me is a range dynamic so like when you have grover doing like offbeat comedy it just feels kind
Starting point is 00:50:53 of weird and and it is not there to offset the balance of like percy being intense and end up being super serious you know because they're all kind of the same energy but also because we never we don't really dive in the most that we we've gotten recently is between Percy and Annabeth is when they're at the museum they have a chat he kind of like it's his way of being like charming maybe flirting with her of going like
Starting point is 00:51:20 oh darling I'm going to the potty or something like faking like the mom is there which was cute but I thought well why aren't we diving into that more between Percy and Grover and or all three of them and or Percy and Annabeth of like that they like each other
Starting point is 00:51:37 why are we only talking about how to fight the monsters there has to be some sort of an emotional pull that we're not always wrapped up in that, that there has to be more fun things we can find out about each other of like
Starting point is 00:51:52 wouldn't it be such a breath of fresh air if they were just like on the bus playing a game and it was like have you ever? Like, like are some have you, what's the freaking game? Have you ever? Have you never? Never. Never. However.
Starting point is 00:52:08 Never have a. Bingo. you know what I mean just to get like there's jokes in there that are that that's very easy to write but it's also another way that we can learn more about Percy Annabeth but we're not really getting that we're kind of really talking about monsters a lot yeah yeah yeah yeah it's like there's a there's a personality yeah yeah yeah yeah it's got a lot of information you know but there's a there's a personality traits that and I guess This is why I keep praising the last, like, 10 to 15 minutes because that was great. That's when I'm like, oh, we got intensity. We got some humor. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:48 We got some humor that's actually clicking. We got some character development that's actually working. We have emotional moments. We got personality. We got some genuine tension. Yeah. And right now, up until that point, I kept feeling like I see what they're trying to achieve. And I almost feel nothing, which is not making for the most.
Starting point is 00:53:11 exciting experience and I was really excited for this show because the movies while super cheesy they were fun they were a lot of fun they were fun yeah even though the second one like really know what the hell out of me but for the most part like what and a half of the experience was really fun yeah and and this this one I was really excited because of the the surge of enthusiasm around its release and I'm I guess I guess we're just not quite there yeah but that ending the very very and where he gets picked up by the water. That was cool. That was very cool.
Starting point is 00:53:43 Very cool. We got like three questions from our patrons. We want to read them? Let's do it. Landon Miller, thanks for sending a question. As Percy learns more about his father and Annabeth reveals her lineage, how do you think the show explores the tension
Starting point is 00:53:56 between who you are and who you're expected to be? I think it explores it in a way that is very... Neutral? and kind of, you know, by the numbers, I would say. I mean, if we're looking for something for children, that's what I'm trying to sound like if I'm a kid, will it sing them more?
Starting point is 00:54:25 Maybe. I'm not really sure because there's a lot of talking about who the parents are, but we don't see them and we don't really, we don't see dynamics or interaction or whatever cut to them. So a lot of it is like perceptions from orphans, essentially who are like aware their parents are around but they don't talk to them and uh when you don't have that dynamics it it makes it a little bit harder for that to what you're talking about here for who you are versus who you're expected because right now I'm seeing it from
Starting point is 00:54:57 the perspective of like yeah these these godparents seem like total assholes yeah and outside of that you know the the idea of embracing your own path and destiny and kind of we were talking about with the Oracle saying this is what your life will be and this is what will happen, but you choose your own path. I'm a big fan of that message in all aspects, whether you have supportive parents or non-supportive parents. I'm a big believer in that message.
Starting point is 00:55:25 In terms of what the show's currently doing, yeah, kind of apathetic towards this at this moment. I don't think it's really exploring a lot of tension really at all. between who they are, who they're expected to be. I get it that they're talking about it. To me, there's not tension when they are.
Starting point is 00:55:47 It's really just like, oh, yeah, we kind of, the parents, we don't really, it's whatever kind of a vibe. And I think now, like, who they are is who they're expected to be. We obviously know they're going to, like, grow into it. They still have a lot of learning to do. But it doesn't seem like we'll be going. from zero to 60 or from like oh they really got to
Starting point is 00:56:13 grow into this because we've kind of already seen him at camp they kind of understand who they are. Annabeth has helped him as if she knows more about where he needs to be than he does which is why she's on this mission and then Grover
Starting point is 00:56:29 has just been around for a million years so I don't feel the tension but maybe I will. Yeah fair enough driving ahead i don't think i've ever read a question from you what did you think of percy falling out of the saint louis arch not to sound too nostalgic but i thought that was just the coolest thing in the book as a kid i did not know what the arch was or where it was but the book turned the modern into the mythical that was one of our favorite scenes yeah i genuinely had chills
Starting point is 00:57:01 elicited from midbody when that happened the way it was shot was really cool from like really just dropping it into his POV of letting you feel the terror of when you are falling and it's manic and frenetic and then you just see this like surge of water coming his way. It looked very real. I love the way that was done. And then it cut two in the water.
Starting point is 00:57:28 It was really nice and it complicates that relationship dynamic with him and his father after he was saying my father's never done nothing for me. So I thought that was a really, great moment. I thought it was a really, really cool moment, and the way they handled that was very well done. I don't know if that's even done in the actual movie, but the way it was done here
Starting point is 00:57:45 was great. Yeah, they did a great job and that the, the wide shot, the master shot of him falling and you really get the scope of like holy tamale, that was wild. I really love that. And of course, when he gets saved by the water at the end, because, I mean, as we know
Starting point is 00:58:02 throughout this entire episode, I'm yelling about the fire hydrant. It's wide open. But we didn't tap into it that's all right because dad came through yeah uh and whoever that weird woman is who's uh either juice and dad or just friends of him is like you got to just breathe your dad wants to be here but he's not i'm here uh i like i think i like her i think she's she's cool i don't know who she is yet but i'm sure we will find out but i do agree that that was the whole thing all together with chimera and that fight and how cool chimera looked him falling point of view
Starting point is 00:58:40 wide shot water twirling we're stuck dad's girlfriend comes and tells us to breathe cool kick ass love it kick ass you can read the last one j rushden never misses a die question ever been to st louis or New York City. Well, yeah, we can't. I mean, he has, and he doesn't ever want to come back. And if he does come back from New York, he is, it's not fun to be around him because he doesn't want to be here.
Starting point is 00:59:11 He wants to be back in New York. I am basically all of the time. I'm not refreshed. No. And back for a new perspective. He's always very sad. I'm more like, fuck this place.
Starting point is 00:59:23 This. Yeah. I don't have a very, positive He doesn't. Don't send him to New York. As you do, it's not good when he comes back.
Starting point is 00:59:38 I don't feel like I got injected with new life. I feel like this is what I'm missing. I've never been to St. Louis, though. I have lived in New York when I was 21. How long did you live there for? Only like six months for school. What did you study? Amda, American Musical and Dramatic Academy.
Starting point is 00:59:57 I lived on 91st in Amsterdam. on the Upper East side, close to Harlem. It's like 30 years ago. Uh-huh. About 45 years ago. That's why. And it was fun. Wild times was hard to live there because it was expensive.
Starting point is 01:00:17 Also, I was a student. You live in New York, you live in tiny, tiny place. Like, we basically lived in this, but there was three of us. Yeah. It's wild, dude. It's wild. wild man it's very unreasonable like if you really want to live in New York you got to live outside of the city you do and we lived in the middle yeah it is a remarkably tight crazy the one downfall I got it
Starting point is 01:00:43 but you want to be outside so much when you're there I know like you don't really spend that much time in your apartment but we did always think it was cool that the one guy it was like two doors down from us who was older he's like in his 40s with girlfriend but very nice he would invite us over or sometimes for drinks. And we'd be like, wow, he lives in this, like, apartment by himself. And meanwhile, the apartment is this. It's a box. But we were like, but he's by himself and he can provide us cocktails.
Starting point is 01:01:11 Wow. Like, that's still, I think, how it is in New York. Like, I don't know how people live there. And we lived in the middle of it so that when you walk out, I'm like, you know, 20 feet away from the guy selling the coffee and the card and the donuts. and then I get in the subway it's all right there I'm right in the middle of the juice yeah yeah yeah I know we should stop talking about so he doesn't get too depressed
Starting point is 01:01:38 yeah you haven't been to St. Louis who who wants to go to St. Louis not me I we didn't even know that it is apparently apparently we didn't know where is it where is it Washington DC probably who is St. Louis exactly who is that who's it based off of who's louis why do you build why do you build an arch that doesn't do anything can you really go up in it you think you could go like like an arch is the craziest it's like a wild thing exactly you can build an arch out of the freaking peanuts in the corner right now we can build an arch we're not gonna anyone could do it but big i don't know why people are going to same louis just for the arch deal and honestly it's missing a second arch because that's mickey d's right there those are some good
Starting point is 01:02:25 arches those are the really impressive arches i agree those elicit an emotion and you want to go you want to go in that's what i'm talking about see same page you get it but what do you guys think what's your favorite arch leave your thoughts down below on the top 10 arches you can think of and we'll see 20% of you next week Thank you.
