Greg Alba & Michael Tessler react to Fallout Season 2 Episode 2 on Prime Video, where the wasteland expands and the stakes get personal. In this episode, Maximus and the Brotherhood of Steel become central to the story as old loyalties fracture and new threats loom. We’re introduced to dangerous corners of the Commonwealth, meet Kumail Nanjiani’s mysterious character, and witness unforgettable moments straight from the Fallout game mythology — including iconic creatures like radscorpions and Deathclaws stalking the wastes. Norm teams up with a crew of survivors after awakening, and we see flashbacks to Maximus’ youth around Shady Sands, adding powerful emotional depth to his arc. This episode also builds on what happened in Episode 1, where Robert House made his chilling debut and Season 2’s larger world began to unfold. Starting point is 00:00:27 This week's videos are sponsored by Price Picks. Easy to use fantasy sports betting app. More on them in just a bit. Goal's just a bit. Goal's just a want to have fun. That's really funny. Yeah, well, you can buy it now at 50% off. I lied.
Starting point is 00:00:57 Wow. We don't have sales. Our goal is to make less. We can't afford it. Our goal is to go bankrupt. We have no money. At 95% off. We're covering all the costs.
Starting point is 00:01:10 Terms and conditions. Well, okay. Well, Praper, thanks for editing these down. I'm sure you did a great job. I could see into the future. I'm a clairvoyant. Why have they cut all of my jokes out, Craig? Because I told them, too.
Starting point is 00:01:23 Those are my pre-notes. I said, keep me laughing at his jokes. So there'll be two of those reactions. and the rest cut them out. Anyway, we just watch Fallout 2 by 2. If you're on Apple or Spotify, we're reviewing this right now, reaction on YouTube as per usual.
Starting point is 00:01:41 Michael Tesler, Michael Tesler, I always have this notepad ready to write stuff down, and I rarely do. I wrote Commonwealth relics of a war because I felt like these were words I'd forget. What I learned in boating school is. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:01:59 You were about to ask me something. Yeah. Yeah. You know. What did you think of this episode, Craig? No, no, too bland. Too bland of a question. How do you feel compared to the last episode of where we are going?
Starting point is 00:02:14 You had thoughts about where we would go with Maximus. Yeah. A lot of this was Brotherhood heavy, introducing Commonwealth and a potential civil war. And I know this is an element that you were getting giddy about during. And how was it? paying out for you so far well uh first off i felt like this episode felt more like the first season than the first episode of this which uh of this season which i appreciated um and that it felt like a continuation of a lot of the themes that we're playing with this episode covered so much it's hard
Starting point is 00:02:51 to remember that we started with shady sands and being you know there at the moment of impact that played out, I thought, so brilliantly in setting up Maximus' arc for this season. He finally sort of achieved what he was hoping to achieve. Now he is in a position where his philosophies and who he really is are being put to the question, which I love that through each one of our three main POV characters, we are exploring the moral dilemmas and the choices of a player, but in different ways. I would even say now we have a fourth in the form of Hank.
Starting point is 00:03:33 Yeah, I completely agree. And I'm glad that they're doing that, and they're not just leaving him as a sort of a fifth in the form of norm. Oh, yeah, unless we forget. We'll see where his arc takes him. I mean, maybe he is the true star of the show. I like seeing the parallel, just dawn on me right now, of how they're paralleling.
Starting point is 00:03:53 a bit of a journey between Hank and Norm of what they're both doing. Oh, interesting. Yeah, there's certainly a meekness to both of them that one has overcome and one is overcoming. And that's a tough shadow to... I mean, do we know how much he knows
Starting point is 00:04:12 about his father? I'm trying to remember from... I don't think he learned the whole truth. He was unpacking all of like Vault 31, but there's a fun duality kind of happen. happening with them because Hank is a false leader towards the people in the vaults, but also he's secretly what appears to be working for Robert House, right, at the Vault Tech guys.
Starting point is 00:04:36 And then you have Norm, who is taking on this leader, managing role for Vault Tech when he's not to lead these people and stuff. So there's, in some ways, he's more like his father than Lucy is. And Lucy is the one who has the close connection and seemed. to be the one who's a really good point. Like Lucy's the one who has taken on the role, the guide that he has instilled the lessons, even if that wasn't who he really was underneath.
Starting point is 00:05:04 And Norm is sort of evolving to be, even though he's much more good-hearted, some of the actions he's taking show a little bit more of that, that willingness to be a little bit more mischievous and a liar. To do what it takes. Yeah, do what it takes. More like his dad. Well, and it's interesting too because I'm not sure that I've,
Starting point is 00:05:23 by just yet that Hank serves a house I think Hank serves Hank even though he called some oh you mean and then you know you know and I mean
Starting point is 00:05:33 that's the I think and that's also perhaps where the two of them exist in a similar trajectory to where there is a certain selfishness whereas you know we have in the form of his sister somebody that is
Starting point is 00:05:49 in every sense of the word selfless perhaps to a fault or a vault one might say waka waka no I I totally
Starting point is 00:06:03 I totally agree I love how they are playing into you are seeing everything that is wrong with the brotherhood while also you see the potential
Starting point is 00:06:17 of like what it can be which is a great sort of common theme that I think they've managed to capture from the games because like Maximus every player the first time they see power armor they're like, I don't care what I have to do
Starting point is 00:06:31 I'm going to get that power armor and the easiest way to get the power armor is to go through the brotherhood and I think there's something really interesting happening obviously the setup for the commonwealth and even seeing the commonwealth representative
Starting point is 00:06:45 I didn't get the character's name but jump off the vertebrae at the end Oak male I guess we can just call by his human It's very, just to draw the eye and make you go, Camille Mongeon! Exactly what it would be.
Starting point is 00:06:57 But I think the, his like swagger and sort of the instant, that is in so many ways everything that Maximus wants to be. And I wonder if he is going to fall into a sort of another
Starting point is 00:07:13 false idol sort of situation where definitely. He sort of continuously puts these people on the pedestal instead of being the person on the pedestal. himself this episode is brought to you by prize picks the app that finally let me crash my wife's fantasy sports click yes i used to overhear her and her friends bonding while i sat in the corner
Starting point is 00:07:36 my arms folded come to my home and i can't be included trying to pretend like yeah i know what yards after catch means it's felt left out man and then i discovered prize picks so here's the deal it's daily fantasy sports not gambling no playing against sharks or betting against the house it's just you versus your own sports brain. You pick more or less on two or more player's stats. Like, will Luca Donchich score more than 30 points tonight? Will Christian McCaffrey rush for less than 85 yards? Sports things.
Starting point is 00:08:06 And if you're right, you win. Another thing, too, it's fast. You can make a lineup in under a minute. Play in 30 plus states. And you're not stuck to just NFL or NBA. You've got MLB, NHL, college football, even e-sports. Basically, if it has stats, you can play. And basically, I know.
Starting point is 00:08:23 can hang out with my wife and her friends 10 years in the making and when i get one right it does feel good so fellow reject what you can do today is you can download the price picks app use code rejects to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup that's code rejects to get $50 in lineups after your first $5 lineup prize picks it's good to be right he's someone who's constantly looking for a father yeah even when he calls him bad guy brotherhood dude what is this fucking the elder the elder yeah but he calls him son at the beginning and his face has a little smile he wants the approval he he he we've established the law obviously he's been looking for a connection to brotherhood he's been looking for that and he's been looking for a guide some type of north star to rely on yeah and looking for some type of mentor father is the thing he lost and he's been kind of in search of ever since and i i think
Starting point is 00:09:22 not just the father figure but what the father figure represented which is a way of living, a way of life, a philosophy and it's tough because to his point and I mean he said it directly in this episode to his knowledge
Starting point is 00:09:38 this is the best there is. There's not another alternative. The best I can do is try to make this just a little bit better. And I think that seeing the different factions and the different viewpoints this season is inevitably going to have that personal impact on Maximus's journey and character growth.
Starting point is 00:09:58 I have to say, I think in terms of shows, and tell me if you disagree, I think in terms of shows that show different character POVs and are in that sort of world-building stage, that this is top tier, like Game of Thrones level top tier from jumping from one to the other, and nothing ever, despite the absurdity of it all, everything feels very real. And very, you know, I mean, even in, like, how they set up shady sands and seeing that, like, it felt so tangible. Like, you can see it. You imagine it that felt genuine and lived in. And I feel like they've done a good job of that so far for all the other, you know.
Starting point is 00:10:39 And it's something we've talked about in the past. I feel like Walking Dead really struggled with trying to figure out how to take that leap. Definitely. You know, so in terms of the characters that you are like, this is my reason for wanting to watch every week. Like, who's... Waltz and Goggins out easily. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:58 I mean, yeah, it's like they paired up the two that are... I love Maximus. I do. I love Maximus. And I like the storyline that we're getting with him. And I actually find what we got with him more impactful than what we've got with the Gould and Lucy so far, honestly. I feel like there's been like information dispersed
Starting point is 00:11:19 and good teases of dynamics to... come but there hasn't been much of a real strong evolution outside of some of the more surface stuff of you know budding dynamics and quipping and the potential to learn about hope humanity and for her to become a little bit more like him and get a little bit more cold than the soul kind of reminds me of the rough start to the dynamic in the first season of ossoca in a way like i feel like they're they're saying the things but i'm not feeling just yet. Which is interesting
Starting point is 00:11:53 because in the first season I thought it was it was so much it was so important the biggest strengths was watching her point of worldview get like slowly
Starting point is 00:12:03 shattered over time from her experience with him and it seems like the little bit of that has been sort of walked back this season maybe that's what I'm feeling
Starting point is 00:12:12 where I'm like some of that growth isn't there but I also have a hunch that the setup that we landed on this episode with where she is
Starting point is 00:12:21 and the fact action that she is with, which I'm so curious as a non-fallout. Well, I think the thing that's missing for me, honestly, with Lucy is that we, she had such a specific journey in season one and where it ended with her having to shoot her ghoul mom and then her dad being confronted with the truth. And it seems like her personality is just right back to where it was before. When I'm like, oh, I kind of wanted to see who we just are was a couple days ago, carry on that personality more.
Starting point is 00:12:51 Yeah. what's the fallout of her of all those revelations and of that growth and maturity and and maybe what her demeanor would be like now versus just go back to default person on which i guess in some ways arguably more human yeah but i think it just this just happened maybe that's exactly what they're playing with like maybe at some point early on this season we are going to have the needed breakdown that she didn't have time for because She immediately had the action of I need to find my father. That's fair. But who knows? I have to say, like at this point, with the intentionality of everything, the intentionality to detail, how all the different dots can act, I have a hard time imagining that they aren't going to make us rue those words that we just... Yeah, yeah, perhaps. But that's just the optimist to me.
Starting point is 00:13:48 Okay, dokey. Yeah. Creature was cool. Lobster King. What was it called? Lobster King. Rat lobster. Is that going to be our next t-shirt?
Starting point is 00:13:57 Lobster King. What was it? It was a rad scorp. A rad. A rad? Like radiation. Scorp. Like scorpion?
Starting point is 00:14:05 That's a scorpion on a lobster. And it pincers. Like a scorpion. Like a scorpion. And it had pincers. Like a scorpion. Yes, Greg. Well, you know.
Starting point is 00:14:16 It looks like a lobster. Yeah.
