More on them in just a bit.
Let's do it.
All right, Ford versus Ferrari, commencing in three, two, and a one.
All right, that was Ford versus Ferrari.

We would appreciate it.
Boy, I really enjoyed this one, Tara, great deal.
But we're going to, I think we only have a few questions here.
So we're going to quickly kick this off with the Patreon questions and we appreciate our royal rejects.
So let's start it off with Brian Reed here.
How accurately does Ford versus Ferrari portray the real-life rivalry
and personalities of Carol Shelby and Ken Miles?
And where does it take dramatic liberties?
I mean, as I pointed out at the very beginning of us doing this reaction,
I didn't know this story at all other than these are cars.
So I can't properly answer this question.
Did you know anything about this story or no?
Nope.
What I will tell you about this is I think that,
I think one of the themes in this film, Tara,
is friendship being forged through friction.
And I think that's what Carol and Ken is.
And I appreciated that a great deal.
And I think that's the heart of this movie,
is their friendship, their on-screen chemistry.
Matt Damon and Christian Bale are such incredible actors.
and watching them
and to me too
and I you know
this is just my opinion
I didn't even think the film was really about
like the Daytona race or the Lamon
like yeah it was definitely in the background
for sure and it was an important part of the film
but to me was like
them working out problems
you know finding ways
to get through things and like
their friendship
like correlated through all that
and like that was like the heart of the film
for me and like that's the thing I appreciate
the most and they were so good
I loved all their interactions
with each other and the pacing
of the film too was so dang
it was really sharp with
such a good sharp inter-excus
me sharp dialogue
and frenetic pacing too
like the two and a half hours I really never felt
for one moment so what about you
yeah my assumption is like
at the end right it told us that
the Shelby is the first and
kind of I think only American car
to have won Lamonts which is
By 1968, Shelby Mustang is one of the most sought-after cars ever in the universe.
I mean, it would be my number one pick to have that.
That's a classic.
It would cost you a lot of money if you have it in peak condition.
So I assume, you know, on that part, that it's very realistic, right?
They're giving us the facts at the end.
But going off of the personalities, like, I didn't, I don't know.
Like, again, same with him.
Like, we don't know who they were.
but um my assumption is they obviously took dramatic liberties where i would say they probably took
a dramatic liberty is maybe with um ken's personal life like i don't know if he had a wife and a kid
but also like when shelby takes the screw from ferrari or he takes the stopwatches i would love
to know that that actually happened at lamon and that he dropped one of the um
one of the washers um one of the bolts it was a bolt one so that it would distract them or whatnot that
would be that's such a great great story i don't know whether or not that's true um but i'm sure
that they took some dramatic liberties but not my assumption that Ford and Ferrari their names are
on here their cards are displayed from back in the day that the liberties that you take when it comes
to the vehicles cannot be that large right we're going to
have to probably stick to our guns here and display what actually happened between these two
companies and with these cars. But there's also, you know, that is why people like those little
fiats. Why? Because they're made by Ferrari. That still exists to this day. They still make those
cars. And they still will make, you know, a Shelby Mustang. It doesn't look as cool now. But it's still,
you know, a sought after vehicle, and I appreciate that.
So I'm sure that it does have, to answer your question,
even though I don't know, Brian,
a lot of accuracies when it comes to the vehicles.
Yeah, but it definitely made me intrigued,
and I loved watching whatever was historically accurate
and whatever they took liberties with.
I thought it was a well-laid-out story,
and I really appreciate.
And again, the chemistry between Christian Bale and Matt Damon.
They're such good actors, but they work really well together.
So I loved it.
It was great.
And I really liked the actress who played The Wife.
I thought she brought great depth to the films.
Molly was great.
She was fantastic.
Alex Mesa, where does this rank amongst racing movies, including F1, but maybe not the Fast and Furious franchise?
Well, maybe only one through three.
We haven't seen F1 yet, have you?
No.
I have not seen that either.
I've heard fantastic things, so I'm excited for whenever we do react to that.
Well, you said not Fast and Furious.
because yeah that kind of goes off the rail
and race cars and racing
in terms of that but
I mean this is definitely
up there because it's I would say
this film too it's like
it's a character driven film disguised
as a race car movie to me you know what I mean
so I'm trying to think
though because I love Days of Thunder
and I love the spacing
right now just my mind is so foggy what was
the movie called with Chris Hemsworth
and Laada
Lauda what was that movie?
remember we reacted to it yeah i can't remember and ron howard directed and god that's going to kill me
uh because i really like that one even though i can't remember it but i'm going to look it up right now
because it's going to kill me if i don't remember it hold on give me one sec i will find it right now
what is that movie called that one was called where are you where are you rush remember that one
rush.
I was a good one.
That was a really good one.
God, this is hard,
Derek, because a lot of people are going to say,
if I pick this one, it's recency bias.
Might be this one.
This was really good, but again, I love the style of Days of Thunder, too,
because that one's like Top Gun on the, with race cars.
But I love Rush, too.
That's a fascinating star.
They're all so good.
I don't know.
But again, if I have to pick one, I guess it would be this one.
What about you?
Yeah.
Gone of Cic Seasons is not really a race car movie,
but there is a lot of racing in it.
They do have a Shelby Mustang in it.
There is a lot of character in that film versus like this film is a lot more like history and drama and like about actual racing.
So I don't know if we can compare it.
But I would say against, because you said one through three, which I agree, I really love Fast and Furious.
one obviously that's what started the franchise off um i think there's a lot of great racing in that
movie and they really do show um a lot of the cars in especially in one versus like i get why
you said one through three we're getting into like Tokyo and drift and we're trying to show the
world but it's a lot of like souped up Mitsubishi's with like and you you don't really get like
like this film where you're like american muscle kind of a car which is just
played in Fast and the Furious One.
So I would say those are sort of like mingled in there with this movie.
Although I think the cinematography, the point of view on the camera is really great in this
where we're really getting a clear point of view from the driver's view and you feel the speed.
There are parts in Gone in 60 Second Seconds and Fast and Furious One where you do feel the speed as well.
this movie though specifically stressed me the F out
especially towards the end of the race
when we're hitting 220 miles an hour
you're up at 7,000 RPMs for a long period of time
you never know what's going to happen
so you know this movie did a really good job with that
yeah absolutely and I'm with you I really
I know it's not a racing car film but I
know it's not really critically hailed
but I love gone in 60 seconds a lot of there's a lot of fun
moments and then it's got the 67 Shelby Gt 500 as you mentioned as well uh what's another race
there's another race car movie that was just on the tip of my tongue too uh i lost the thought but
if i think of it i will mention it but thank you for the question Alex we appreciate it

Randy Cruz, thank you for the question, Randy, and for being a royal reject.
When it comes to Mangold's biopics, historical dramas,
do you think his approach in this film where it focuses on a specific event
or something like Walk the Line
where it does most of Johnny Cash's life story
makes it a better film
it's been a while
I literally the last time I saw Walk the Line was in 2005
but I think I understand the brunt of your question
is because again that Walk the Line
is pretty much the whole
you know his whole backstory
it's most of his life whereas this is like
focusing like on a one or two year span
well I mean
I think we like for for this film I think it was smart again to focus on you know their friendship and and you know that one or two year again point I think if you would have done like a whole backstory on like both of Ken Miles and then Shelby I don't think that would have been the smart choice I think again focusing on their friendship and seeing the contrast in them because you know Shelby is a very like he's like he's got this quiet resilience to him and he's very
restraint versus the contrast of like the way christian bail came off at least in ken miles he's got
this raw unpredictability about him and i think they just like the they just really compliment each other
so well and i think that was a great way of just focusing the narrative on that versus walk the line
where you know you're focusing on it's the film is just about johnny cash so i think that was smart
to you know show the whole his whole life story in that sense as opposed to we're just going to show one event of
Johnny Cash. I mean, you could have done the film that way, but I think James Mangold was smart
to picking a certain event and focusing on the friendship when it comes to this film versus,
you know, walk the line. Again, it's been a long time. I remember enjoying that film,
but I think that was the wise choice for this film, but what about you? So I think when you talk
about a specific event, it does make storytelling better, but it's because the characters
and the story will change, but what happens at the crucial part of it is that specific.
specific event, right? It's that like dark night of the soul is a little bit when we go to
Le Mans and how are we going to handle this. And that is what good storytelling gives you is that
you're on the edge of your seat and you care about these characters and you want to know
where it's headed. And you're fighting for your team that the writers have set up for it to be
Ken and Shelby. You're fighting for them to win. And I think that,
that, yes, going about it with a very specific event in mind,
you're not going to get lost in the minutia of how do we tell this story.
It's much easier to go, well, here's the story.
Now let's just find the best way to show it.
And that's what makes people who show more history slash drama films,
which are could, I'm sure they would also be great at documentary.
It's a different style, but it's also a different way of storytelling.
because we are taking from history and trying to give to an audience a story that's already been written,
but showing it to them in the best way that we can to make it palpable.
And I think that Mangold does a good job of that.
Thank you for the question, Randy.
Jay Rushden.
Okay, the spoof concept was Volvo versus Volkswagen was Battle of 80 Mile-per-Hour cars.
What absolute worst, what absolute worst, absolute worst car you owned and what your dream, what is your dream car?
Funny enough, it was a Ford was probably, there's a Ford Explorer, I think.
But it wasn't, I wouldn't even consider, you're just asking what was the, the car that I would, I guess, was valued the least amount.
But I still enjoy driving that car for the two days I drove it for that car accident, I guess.
but a dream car
hmm
that's a good question
what is my dream car
I guess maybe
and I love the fourth mission impossible
movie which I know
Tara and Aaron just reacted to those
go check out those mission impossible reactions
I would say the I8 BMW
I do love that car
I would I'd be I'd love to
to own one of those
I'd be a cool one
but I'm a very simplistic person
even if I had so much money
I might just have like a couple
couple cars just like something to view at as long as it gets me from A to B and doesn't give me
a ton of problems honestly I'm I'm happy what about you I didn't really have any like bad
cars my first car was in 1963 VW bug which is very cool and vintage it was bright orange and it
was a stick shift which pretty dope the next car that I had was a Ford Focus and I uh it was
still a stick shift because I wanted to control the RPMs and go super fast.
In that vehicle, I did get stopped by the cops.
Well, I've had, I've many tickets.
I'm a lead foot.
I like speeding.
But I was clocked at 135.
And that is, you go to jail.
And thank God.
He was like, I'm going to put it as 117.
And I was like, God bless you, sir, because then you just, you have to go to court and you have to look at a death book.
And it's like a whole thing and pay a lot of money.
But my point in that is that I've always tried to like test drive car.
I mean, sure, if money was not an issue, I would most likely get like an M5.
My friend had a beamer for a while.
and if I would take him to the airport,
he would let me drive his beamer.
And oh, holy to Molly.
Those are really engineered.
Like that is the driving machine.
Like how we both think beamers.
But the M5, the M series is one of the most expensive cars out there.
And it will be, especially on top gear, I've watched it,
a Ferrari on the line.
And M5 is one of the fastest cars you can get.
and it's weird because they're wildly expensive.
And I see a few in L.A.
That I'm like, that's Wackadoo wild to me.
Whether it's an M3M4, like,
there's still $100,000 plus for a vehicle.
And these people are not driving it the way it should be driven.
Like the way that they talk about it
in the beginning of the film, they're like,
you don't belong in this.
You belong in a C-Bring or something.
you really resonated with that line right um yes i did um so uh yeah that's that's my answer your question
i would i would also really like like like i already said 67 68 shelby mustang would be great
super vintage that that would be a lot of fun i think that has mainly been my like dream car for
very very long time um so i liked watching this and it was funny it took
took me a good 20 minutes to get there, but then I was like, oh, yeah, his name's Shelby.
Ah, that's how we got there. And that was like a really fun discovery for me, because that is one at the top of my list.
I'm glad you said that, because I don't know if I would have, my mind is so foggy right now.
I don't know if I would have gotten there, but I'm glad you said it.
But, yeah, any final thoughts before I look up really quickly?
And then, because I know we got to get out of here, but I'm just going to quickly look up.
What do you want?
Rotten tomatoes?
You want trivia? What do you want?
Oh, yeah, let's do rotten.
Right.
I'm going to say that critics gave it an 81.
Critics are weird.
They don't really go too high.
I'm going to go 81.
Could be off.
And I'm going to go audience 84.
Hmm.
So the critics.
I think it's lower for the audience, but I don't want it to be.
So the critics were 92.
Oh, good.
And the audience.
was 98. Oh, awesome. This is a great movie. Because you know what? I give it a 98 too. Let's
freaking go. This was a great film. Yeah, no, I really enjoyed it too. Again, the two actors,
absolutely phenomenal. They are so good. You don't even feel like it's actress performing. You feel
like it's probably the real guys. Again, I don't know their personalities in real life
didn't really know much historical things about them
other than, like you said, the Shelby.
But I didn't feel like, again,
I was watching actors performing.
And that's always a sign of an amazing performance.
And I thought the story was extremely compelling.
The pacing was very tight-knit, very frenetic.
I loved watching it.
Great direction by James Mangold.
Fantastic score by Marco Beltrame.
I forgot the other composer's name.
Great supporting cast.
The actors played Molly, John Bernthal,
Even Josh Lucas, I didn't like his character,
but it was a great performance by Josh Lucas.
He's a great actor.
And even the little kid, I love the relationship between father and son.
The ending really got me extremely emotional.
So phenomenal, phenomenal film.
Ditto.
Really enjoyed it.
Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
We'd love to hear what you think of this film.
Is it when a James Mangold's best films?
Are there other race car films besides F1, I assume, when it comes out on digital,
we terror myself or whoever is going to be reacting to it.
Probably be watching it.
Yeah.
Let us know if there's any other films besides F1 that you would like us to react to or just films in general.
We'd love to hear your thoughts.
And if you stayed with us as a song, we appreciate it.
Take care.
Stay safe.
