So whether you're sharing the streaming password in the family chat or trading those late-night voice messages that could basically become a podcast, your personal messages stay between you, your friends, and your family. No one else, not even us. What's up? Message privately with everyone. Well, happy birthday to us if this is already aired.
Starting point is 00:01:35 Here we go. Free guy. Shall we do it? Let's do it. That's interesting. You had Greg Berlanti, does the Aeroverse, DC, and then you had two DC veterans here from Green Lantern. It's all connected, Roxy. Burlanti stays doing like so much stuff. Okay. So free guy.
Starting point is 00:02:01 Man, this movie is underrated. Considered I have not heard, like this should be talked about all the time. Right. By the way, if you guys are listening to us on Apple or Spotify and you are not an NPC or you are an MPC, please drop a rating. You didn't trust me that I was going to do it? I did, but I was, I was helping, I was being a buddy and I was helping you out. I was being a dude, and I was helping you out. I like to, my new thing, I like to give them like a minute a talk before I then do the plugs.
Starting point is 00:02:32 Because I try to drag them along with us. I try to entice them to stay. I say nothing. Continue. I'm just kidding. It's perfect. No, seriously, five stars. We want all the stars.
Starting point is 00:02:44 Also, while we're here, this is the dopest sweater. Will one be coming to Andrew for his birthday? Only Tara and I know the answer to that. Yes, I will. Did you not trust me to plug that in? No, I did. I just didn't know that you were going to do that. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:02 This is Colt of Sheejects. Go buy it. Redignation Shop.com. It is like the most comfortable, the best, comes in five different colors. They're all dope. I think I'm going to get a Navy one next. What color do you want? That color, you just said.
Starting point is 00:03:14 Maybe. I'd be down for this or Navy. You want Navy? The Navy is cool, man. Yeah. I love the purple also. Man, I like all of them. And the blue, it's called flow blue, it rocks.
Starting point is 00:03:25 Go get one now. Okay, let's talk about this movie. I want, like, normally I'll, I say this to the end if I do it at all, but one to ten, what do you rate this movie? I definitely would go with probably like an 8.5 or higher, like an 8.5 or a 9. Yeah, this is like a 9th. Yeah, it was really good. I just loved the whole story structure. Just the idea and the concept of an NPC and living in the game world.
Starting point is 00:03:51 And also to, because I've actually thought about this just in a general thought, but not like on too deep into it. Like when I'm playing video games, like, I wonder what all the other characters are doing when I'm off into like doing my main missions. Like what are the NPCs doing and like what are they thinking about or is it, oh, just going about the programming? But then what happens when like one like thinks for itself and does other things and like becomes the main character? Like what a fascinating concept. And then obviously you factor in like, okay, there was actual programming. coming here with our two main, oh, with two of three main characters with Joe Keri and Joe, okay, which I've never seen them before, so that's why I'm not familiar.
Starting point is 00:04:32 You've never seen either of them. I've never seen either of them for. Joe Keri just started in another baller show, and so did Jody Komer, I'll tell you, but keep gone, sorry. But yeah, no, I thought the whole, again, as everything was developing and we found out that Taika Waititi's character, who, again, he's a piece of crap, but I freaking loved him. so much. He was hysterical. I wasn't rooting for him in any way, but just his lines of dialogue and the way he presented himself, he was making me crack up so much. Perfect casting. I think I would
Starting point is 00:05:02 say just across the board, perfect casting from Ryan Reynolds to the two actors I just mentioned, as well as Taika Waititi, and the actor who played Buddy. I just, I loved all the casting in this absolutely perfect. But again, I just, I love this concept of being in this video game world and having this NPC character just, you know, just discover himself or have, again, this programming and then, like, you know, through Millie, you know, discover, you know, want to become the main character, if you will, and just, and all the visuals that come with that. I just, I found the whole thing just so fascinating. And there was heart. There was emotion. There was amazing action.
Starting point is 00:05:39 The visuals. I got a lot more to say, what did you think of the movie? I feel the same as you. I checked every box. I think that the most important thing that a movie needs to get right is the story because without that you have nothing
Starting point is 00:05:55 and this story was beautiful it was really beautiful I mean I'm not a gamer but growing up I would play with my stuffed animals I was a big beanie baby girl and all different things and like I don't know why
Starting point is 00:06:12 I'd always think that they had feelings and thoughts and when I left the room you imagine them talking talking to each other. You imagine them living life. And we are crossing over into a world in which AI is real. And a lot of the experts are talking about what that actually will mean in terms of development of the AI and eventual feelings and what does that look like. So I feel like this is very relevant right now, but also relatable. And even as you were talking, talking about like what's going on with other people in the game, you're wondering how when you're playing
Starting point is 00:06:45 games. I wonder that in the world. What's going on with somebody right now who's driving down the 405 that I'll never meet and has a whole world, the whole life, they are the main character of their story. So this was really cool. Just unbelievable to see. I want to tell you about the two actors. So you know the movie that just came out, the bike riders? Jody Comer starred in that as well. Yeah, I only heard about it because I saw Koi had just recently seen it. But yeah. Okay. So she started that as well. And she, I, I'm pretty sure she's won a couple of Emmys for Killing Eve, which is her big show. Let's see.
Starting point is 00:07:21 Joe Kiri, I know I just watched him in something else that I feel like maybe you had seen Fargo. He was in the last season of Fargo. You didn't watch Fargo? I just saw the movie, the original film. You know what? I don't even know if I ever saw the movie. That's so good. But I do love the show.
Starting point is 00:07:38 And he was amazing in the most recent season of Fargo. I want to also find out his best friend in at Joe Kiri's friend who was like, I'm his buddy and at the end and it's like, were you? Oh, he was in Britney Runs a Marathon. I loved that movie. And, oh, he is a character in Avatar
Starting point is 00:07:58 The Last Airbender. Oh. King Boomy. Okay. And never have I ever. That's what I watched him in recently. Great show. This is the TV queen right here.
Starting point is 00:08:08 The dropout he was one of the guys in. Yep. he's been in a lot of stuff. So it's really cool for me. Honestly, the only really wanted to check those things is because, like you just said, I'm a TV girl and I love watching movies like this be like, okay, what we want for, after telling the story, they're like, we want good actors. Where do you look to?
Starting point is 00:08:26 You look to television. That's where the best working actors are, in my opinion. And so they pulled people from all different shows, which is really cool. Yeah. Also, as well, I really, I thought it was fascinating, like, when some of the characters were being deleted, literally, when he was severing the servers with the ax, like, I was like, holy shit, I'm actually emotionally invested in characters that legitimately are not real. I know. So I'm like that, that's just, like, a fascinating thing, like, story-wise, like, to get me as a viewer invested in characters that are NPCs, like, not real characters, you know what I mean? And also the thing you were just talking about, too, with, like, you know, when you were playing with, you know, the beanie babies and your toys and stuff.
Starting point is 00:09:10 And then, like, you know, like, I wonder what they do. Like, when I close the room, it was reminded me a little bit of toy story. And again, I love that concept as well. And this was giving me a little vibe of that just with, like, the video game type of thing. And now, like, I love how the people now once they got, like, it was interesting. Like, you almost got a little bit of an audience arc in terms of what I mean by that. The people, like, wanted just to be the person with the sunglasses. who robs around and kills people or kills the MPCs rather and robs stuff and all that but now they it evolved into like after seeing what the guy in the blue shirt guy had done uh now it's like no we're so invested in these characters and and we're so inspired that we just want to watch these characters just you know walk around and move and go back their daily lives yeah and uh what is it light well it was life itself but now it's free life and I love that and actually you know you made an interesting point you're like when they were about to make that
Starting point is 00:10:08 when they did make that handshake deal you can have Free City 2 and 3 and all that and you're like no she should just back or lie about the deal or whatever it makes sense that she would make that deal because everyone knew it was going to fail yeah exactly because I mean he was
Starting point is 00:10:24 messing things up with the server and he was doing things to The part that I was saying she should have lied about was not going after him for the millions of dollars she's owed for the one that already happened Because I wasn't worried about the sequels Because you can't just take somebody else's work And think you can do it as well
Starting point is 00:10:39 It's why people who steal people's scripts Or whatever it doesn't work Because you're not the genius behind it But she's, oh, they're so much money Oh my God, no, no, it's terrible But I thought like, again, something I really love Is in fantasy-based universes or worlds Still making it feel grounded
Starting point is 00:10:59 Like there's a lot of shit in here That still feels grounded from like that that kind of shit where he steals from her. I'm like unfortunately that happens. But also too, like there was a convert just like with people feeling stuck in their daily lives. I'm like, all right, I'm just going to drink my copy, go to work and then just going to do the same thing over.
Starting point is 00:11:17 I'm like, there was an interesting message and they're like, no, aspire to do more. Wake up. Yeah, exactly. I'm like, let's aspire to do more. And I think that's a very inspiring message. I'm so with you. Like, and I love that. I love that art can inspire us to do more.
Starting point is 00:11:31 like watching this movement like yes let's do it yeah i'm so with you to anybody who finds themselves in a routine and it's a routine that they feel stuck in more than like excited about it might be time to switch something up and that's it is a beautiful message okay i found something cool do you want it as a fact or do you want it as a trivia question knowing you i'm asking oh question do you want me to ask it to you or do you want me to tell you um i want you to question, but before I get to that really quick, I'm going to say that the Hugh Jackman one was when they were
Starting point is 00:12:05 going over the Twitchers and the YouTubers. With the black shadow. I think he was that second or third one. I have to get, I mean, you guys let us know in the comments, but I have to guess it was that one. Would you say it was probably that one? I agree. Because I thought it might have been the person at the beginning, but then he would have to be on set
Starting point is 00:12:22 and it would have been a pain in the ass and then why would you mask him? So I think you're right for sure. All right. Okay. Then, because you love Trivia. I got you. This movie was nominated for an Oscar. What was it nominated for? Okay. Also, how exciting that it was nominated for an Oscar. Is it just one Oscar? Yeah. Shit. I want to say acting, but I feel like the Oscars are so biased when it comes to that. I would say editing?
Starting point is 00:12:55 You were so close. Visuals. I was about to say that too. That's achievement and visual effects. makes sense what a nomination um i am curious okay for there was like five people that were nominated damn i mean that's just that's awesome no that's absolutely what did you think about tycho whiteiti's performance i thought he killed it he was so funny so different and i feel he is a true he is a studier of art yes and that's why he's unbelievable director great writer um you know even though i don't love what we do in the shadows everybody loves that show i'm a huge tyca girl so i i was like okay let me watch the first season and it is good it's just not fully up my alley um and then i watched his next show with the pirates what is it called um forgetting the name of it but i was like
Starting point is 00:13:43 because whatever even though tyca shows are not as much up my alley i love him so much and respect him so much i'll watch anything he does because i think he's a true genius um as a writer as a director a performer he is just an artist i met him one time and i feel like i almost passed out um i'm so sorry just before you get in the trivia i just want to say too this movie really gets me so excited for deadpool and wolverine uh i watched a film you haven't seen that i really would love you to to check out gregg and i reacted to on this channel if you haven't checked out real steel with hugh jackman i love that film um but also this film too i think sean levy really understands not only action and visuals
Starting point is 00:14:26 like he's just a visual genius when it comes to that stuff. What else has he done? He's done real steel. He's done this obviously. I think he did night at the museum one and two. It's been so long since I saw those. Wait, this is wild.
Starting point is 00:14:41 He also directed nine episodes of Stranger Things, which makes perfect sense for why he used Joe Kiri for this. He directed the Adam Project. Okay. So obviously he is a big fan of Ryan Reynolds because he's the star of that as well. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:56 He directed four episodes of all the light we cannot see. So I'm guessing he's part of the tribe. He directed some of Kimmy Schmidt, Night of the Museum, Secret of the Tomb. This is Where I Leave You. That movie was brilliant. I had no idea he directed that. Did you see that movie? No, I know.
Starting point is 00:15:15 Oh, it's excellent. What's it called? This is where I leave you. This is where I leave you. It's a really, really beautiful film. Jason Bateman, Tina Faye, James. Fonda, Adam Driver, Roseburn. I just, I remember they made a line about Ben Stiller, I think, right, in the movie earlier.
Starting point is 00:15:32 And he directed Knight of the museum, Ben Stiller was in that. I'm still not sure if they did, if they did make that line. Yeah, well, if they did. But also, we also said he looks like Ben Stiller that we'll give ourselves the credit for that reference. Okay, he directed a movie called The Internship with Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson. Oh, I do remember. I never saw it, but I do remember that. I think that was about Google, if I remember.
Starting point is 00:15:55 He directed Date Night, which is Steve Correll and Tina Faye, Mark Wahlberg, Taraji. He did Night at the Museum, Battle of the Smithsonian. He did Night at the Museum. Wow. And he directed a woman like me, Beyonce's Pink Panther music video. Oh. And he directed The Pink Panther. Oh, I do know, I did it.
Starting point is 00:16:13 He directed cheaper by the dozen. That I do remember. This is, I mean, this is just crazy. He directed just married. I loved that movie. I never saw that one. Okay. He directed an episode.
Starting point is 00:16:23 of the show, Birds of Prey. Oh. He directed Big Fat Liar. Oh, really? Oh, my God. Is that the one with Amanda Bynes and Paul Giamatti? Yeah, I remember that one. He directed it 46 episodes of Famous Jet Jackson.
Starting point is 00:16:37 I watched every episode of that as a kid. I remember that show. Famous Jet Jackson. Yeah, it was a long time ago. Wow. He directed a few episodes of the show Lassie. Damn, he's been doing it a long time. Good for him.
Starting point is 00:16:49 I mean, holy crap. I did not expect him to have been. Obviously, I've heard his name a million times, but I did not expect. He's directed 40 things. He's 15 upcoming projects. You named the big one. Only 15. Oh, do you know he's rumored to direct Avengers King Dynasty on I-M-Bree?
Starting point is 00:17:06 I mean, I keep hearing that Deadpool and Wolverine is supposed to be phenomenal. Obviously, it hasn't come out here. But I've heard from a few people that it's outstanding. So that would make sense if Marvel is like, all right, we love the shit out of this. We want this guy. And he understands ensemble. He understands heart, emotion, action, visual. This is our guy.
Starting point is 00:17:27 If King Dynasty happens. I don't know if that would imagine there's going, I was going to say if they do that, I would imagine there's a recast. But we shall see. Crazy. He also has another movie listed on IMDB that he has in development with Ryan Reynolds right now. The movie is called Boy Band. I mean, him and Ryan Reynolds. Again, I've only seen them do this film before we see Deadpool and Wolverine, but they have a very good, you know, you need.
Starting point is 00:17:52 chemistry together and I think after I'm sure after we see Deadpool and Wolverine we're going to say continue working together you two you're beautiful. Also just as fun side notes he's a producer of spectacular now and a rival jeez. John Levy
Starting point is 00:18:08 what's good my dude he's a hard worker way to go I mean he gets a very good productive quality out there in terms of his movies and stuff I mean TV shows obviously I mean good for him I'm very happy for him Let me hit you with a couple of different things that are fun, and then we will say goodbye to the people.
Starting point is 00:18:27 This is Alex Trebek's final appearance in a movie. Oh, yeah, because we had the Jeopardy thing on there. I know. I said, I was like, it's good to see you. Ryan Reynolds personally talked to Maria Carey for the rights to use her song fantasy in the film. The rights issue was a little complex. However, as the song was directly sampled from the Tom Tom, Club hit Genius of Love, 1981, the live version of which can be found in the Talking Heads concert film, stopped making sense.
Starting point is 00:18:51 So great. TomTom Club was essentially talking heads without its leader, David Byrne. Samples of Genius Love have appeared in over 30 songs attributed to other artists. That's crazy. Didn't you say too? There was a different version in there.
Starting point is 00:19:06 That was a Mariah song, right? It was all fantasy. Yeah. Oh, okay. Got it. But there was a different version that wasn't being sung by Mariah. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:19:15 It didn't sound like her to me. It sounded like a different version. Gotcha. But she also was in, they played it like five times. that song. Shortly after Guy buys his new shoes, a gin bottle-shaped power-up on the floor titled Settle Product Placement is visible over his shoulder. That's so funny. It's likely a reference to aviation American gin, which Ryan Reynolds had a stake in and maintains an ongoing ownership interest. Awesome. That's cool. That's awesome.
Starting point is 00:19:42 Jody Comer admitted that the hardest part for her was pretending to hate Tychoa Titi because they get along very well. I was going to say, how do you? Yeah. That's solid acting because he comes off as so charming and so like, even when he plays a piece of shit. I was like, God, I'm supposed to hate him, but, oh, something inside of me is saying I don't, but I do. Sean Levy originally read the script in 2016 and passed on it. He was persuaded to reconsider by his friend, Ryan Reynolds. Good choice.
Starting point is 00:20:11 That was a good choice. Okay. I wanted to see where, you would think that one of the pieces of trivia would be our, guy. Oh, Hugh Jackman? But I'm not seeing anything. I got to imagine. Again, I know you guys are going to let us know, but I got to imagine was when they were going over the Twitchers and the YouTubers. Let's see. Hugh Jackman, free guy. Um, I guess we're going to find the answer right here. He had a role in it. What was it? Um, the greatest show and star, keeping some very important information to his character's sleep. It's not saying. No.
Starting point is 00:20:47 What? Why is it so hard to find? Seriously, it's right away. Oh, no, it's the masked guy. Oh, the one that I thought. Okay, you called it. Yeah, but it must not be his body. It must just be his voice.
Starting point is 00:21:02 Must be his voice. When we're done with this, we're going to listen to it again just to hear the voice. And it was so funny, I was just like, so taken about it. You know who I thought that voice was? Who? I thought it was actually Tycho Waititi in my head. I was like, I wonder if this is Tycho, Waititi. And then he ended up showing up later in the film.
Starting point is 00:21:20 I was just completely off. Is Tycho, Wittini? He's New Zealand, right? He's not Australian. He's a Kiwi. Okay, we got to get out of here. Oh, that was such a fun, great movie. Yes, I will not leave you hanging this time.
Starting point is 00:21:35 I know. I did that in Pacific Room Uprising. Don't you love us, guys. Please don't forget, like, comment, subscribe, all that good stuff. Pick up one of our amazing she-ject reject sweaters today. just tell us how you feel about free guy we want to see your comments let us know what movie we want us to cover next okay later you jenks
