Starting point is 00:01:21 Let's see what this reboot does. Let's do it. I was like he'll probably pop back up because he didn't chain him up to give him weight to make him sink. And the swamp gives him powers, bro. Yeah, swamp boy, he never dies. We know that.
Starting point is 00:01:38 I just thought maybe he'd sink for a while. I can't get over how good that movie was. This was fantastic. This was fantastic. It was fantastic. So good. I loved it. It's a deviation from the Jason that we see
Starting point is 00:01:51 because he keeps her captive, which we haven't seen in that way. But it was true to the character because of the mom angle We have a lot to talk about right now. Before we do, do not forget, rejectnation shop.com, pick up this shirt. Please do that.
Starting point is 00:02:05 Go follow us on social media at the Real Rejects, at Real Rejects, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X, the artist formerly known as Twitter. Okay, Tara, my girl. Did this live up to a reboot type? Was this better than the original? How are you feeling?
Starting point is 00:02:21 I was not expecting the reboot to be this good. I mean, it's definitely to me better than the OG, but the OG stands out in its own way because of that it was the first of its kind. So it's like the OJ earns the copyright of this whole, this whole franchise, which I like. But this one blew most of them out of the water. I think it's due to the money that they had
Starting point is 00:02:49 with Michael Bay being on their team, great producers, still being produced by Sean Cunningham, which means we're still calling from that OG, like Friday 13th stuff and I think that the pacing of it and the way that it was shot was shot in a way that's obviously more 2009 but works with better kills better blood everything was just upgraded when you have Michael Bay money things just can they can just be better and that's what that was blue most of them out of the water do you mean most or do you mean all I kind of mean all because I'm trying to I have it from jump for me uh
Starting point is 00:03:27 I have a hard time with the memory. I'm trying to just think about it. I honestly, I remember my dialogue going like, the first one's cool. The rest of them after that, not, not didn't like blow me away. This one I think is the best. Do you like it more than Freddie versus Jason?
Starting point is 00:03:48 Yes, we just watched that. And I know we just watched it. And like, well, good to my brain. I get it. I get it. I thought they did a fantastic, job with it. Really cool, innovative kills, true to the storyline. We still got a bunch of titties going on. I love the, like, love dynamics. I love a sibling relationship. I think that it was so cool. We had something to fight for. I love an ambiguous ending. Did they make it out?
Starting point is 00:04:16 Do they not? What's happening there? Totally. Jason's still alive. It was shot to perfection. Sounded great. I'm so curious. I want them to do a remake of Freddie versus. versus Jason because you know what? I liked Freddy versus Jason. It's in my brain now. I liked how many fights we got between Freddie and Jason, but I think that the way this was shot and the way that was produced is unlike any of the others. I need to see on Rotten Tomatoes, how did this do? Because do you think, are you guessing the people like this or didn't like this? I mean, if you all didn't like it and you've seen all the other ones, I don't know what you're doing. I got to assume it's at least 75. I would
Starting point is 00:04:56 hope it's more. I would assume it's at least it's 75. It's not like it's like it's like, wow, blow me out of the water. Great dialogue. Oscar award winning. It's not that. I have to tell you something. You and I had a completely opposite experience as the audience did. Really? This is a 25% on the tomato meter
Starting point is 00:05:12 and a 47 audience score. What? Why? This was good. This was good. The pacing was good. There was the consensus. Though technically well-constructed Friday 13th is a series rehab. that features little to distinguish it from its predecessors. I feel so opposite about that because it was different.
Starting point is 00:05:31 He was out for vengeance, really, in this one. We see him torturing people and we see him take somebody captive. That's so different. It added such a nice new flare to it that I cannot believe that it got that low. I know horror movies don't tend to do well, but even the audience score being that low is ludicrous. That's crazy. I mean, even if the arrow through the head, we get it.
Starting point is 00:05:54 saw an error through the head and two or three. But it wasn't exactly the same kills. Like, it's still, I get it that it's pulling from all the OGs, but it's a remake. Like, I don't mind that. It's well, like what it said, well constructed. It's an easy thing to watch and enjoy, in my opinion. The director of this movie is Marcus Nispell. He directed Chainsaw Massacre 2003.
Starting point is 00:06:20 Okay. He did. I don't think I've seen that. You didn't see Chainsaw Massacre? You got to do that one. Yeah. Really good. He did Conan the Barbarian in 2011, which was after this.
Starting point is 00:06:30 Prior to this, he did a movie called Pathfinder in 2007, starring Carl Urban and Clancy Brown. What did he do after Conan? This. Oh, no, no, after Conan. Or after this. After this, he did Conan. Okay.
Starting point is 00:06:44 And then he did a movie called Exeter in 2015. Okay. Starring Stephen Lang. So. And that's it for him? Poor stuff. No, he's been working. working for a long time.
Starting point is 00:06:55 Okay, okay. Do you want me to tell you more? No, I was just, did he do anything after 2015? You mean what's his most recent project? Yeah. He did an episode of Fox 26th, Houston. Don't know it. Okay.
Starting point is 00:07:09 No, like the news. Got it. So he's moved on to the news. Yeah, after 2015. This is interesting. Yeah, that is interesting. Yeah, when you get that bad of a review, you're kind of. But that's crazy because it is so good.
Starting point is 00:07:27 Like, I found this movie to be truly, truly excellent. I really liked it a lot. I thought it was amazing. I don't know if the fans are just, like, bitching about, like, they're stealing from OG. I'm like, they know it's a reboot, though. Like, forget about it. Let's see. Let me give you some fun facts.
Starting point is 00:07:45 Richard Burjie wasn't cast as Sheriff Brack until 12 hours before they needed to begin filming his character scenes. Wow. Gives hope for the rest of us. Including the 2009 remake, Jason has killed around 200 people throughout the Friday of 13th series. Sounds about right. Adrian King, star of the original 1980 film, was approached by producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller to do a cameo appearance during pre-production. A few days later, the producers called her back and told her they didn't want anyone from the original film to appear in the remake. That sucks.
Starting point is 00:08:16 I'd be so bummed if I were her. Yeah. So you get a call two days before, you're all stoked about it. That sucks. Victor Miller, the screenwriter the original Friday of 13th, said the script was written in such a way that it could be deemed a sequel
Starting point is 00:08:29 as opposed to a remake because that meant they could pay him less if the movie qualified as a sequel. This explains why the plot of the film is more of an amalgamation of the first four films as opposed to a retelling of the original film. Miller took legal action
Starting point is 00:08:45 because he felt the script they showed him was more of a remake, but the story he came up with was condensed for the first few minutes of the film. He lost the battle. He was paid less. He was surprised later to see the film advertised as a remake. Dang. Money disputes, man. That's cut throat. With $42.2 million had the biggest opening weekend of a horror remake beating out the former record holder, The Grudge. Okay. So it did well? Apparently. But okay. Great. Actress Willa Ford was given 10 days to learn how to wakeboard for her
Starting point is 00:09:22 roll she said wakeboarding itself wasn't as nerve-wracking as having to do it topless yeah yeah i can only fucking imagine yeah um isn't willa ford a singer that's how i know her name i think right i think maybe you're right let's see willa ford songs um yeah i want to be bad make you feel so good i'm doing all my coo about to To break the rules, I want to be bad. I don't think I know that song. Oh. Okay.
Starting point is 00:09:59 She's so disappointed. She's saying the whole thing, too. Yeah, yeah, the whole thing. What are you going to do? What you're going to do is nothing. On hiatus from their show, both Jared Padalecki and his supernatural co-star Jensen Ackles starred in two remakes of 80s slasher films with Jared doing Friday 13th and Jensen doing my bloody Valentine.
Starting point is 00:10:19 I've never seen that. Me neither. remake. Jared was also starred in 2005 remake of House of Wax before Supernatural aired. Oh, okay. That's cool. Cool. This film was the first time Paramount had any association with the Friday 13th series since 1989. Wow. That's why I was able to be called Friday 13th. Right. Because remember they lost those rights. Right. That's cool. Producer Michael Bay allegedly walked out in the movie premiere stating that the movie featured too much sex. Too much sex.
Starting point is 00:10:50 Michael Bay said that. Interesting. He didn't like that much nudity in there. But he was like a nudity kid. Yeah, interesting. The film was, of course, released on Friday the 13th. It was February 2009. Clay and Whitney's last name is Miller.
Starting point is 00:11:07 This is a reference to Victor Miller, the creator of the Friday 13th series. There's so many more things, but those are just some of them that I'll leave you guys with. I can't believe we're done with this. dude that makes me sad yeah i feel like we need another one like like i hope they do another one that'd be great those 15 years ago but should i look up is there any plans for friday 13 by yeah look it up but judging by how badly everyone hated that one they're probably paramount new line are probably
Starting point is 00:11:38 like all right that's the end of the road for it yeah especially something great um as in may 2024, Horror Inc., the original owners of Friday 13th film franchise, are planning to expand the Jason Universe into new entertainment. This includes games, immersive experiences, and merchandise. Yeah, all right. So no movie. Calling a Jason Universe. Okay.
Starting point is 00:12:00 More to be announced throughout 2024. That's crazy. Jason Universe. I know two people you could cast in your new Jason movie. Yeah, baby. Taryn Roxy. Thank you guys. Seriously, going on this ride with us has meant everything.
Starting point is 00:12:14 We are going to be doing tons more in the horror world, plus all over the place. And you guys have just been the best, simply the best. Thank you for doing this with us. Any final words from Tara? No, I just love you guys. I liked this movie, even though everyone else said it. Yeah, I hope you guys liked it too. Let us know in the comments.
Starting point is 00:12:32 Okay, later, Rejects and Cheecks. Bye.
