What's up?
Message privately with everyone.
So are we ready for this?
I'm ready.
I like to take Manhattan.
I like to take Manhattan.
That was the eighth one.
At some point you and I are going to have to do a ranking of all these,
which is going to be so crazy hard.
But we will do it because I said so just now.
What did you think of this?
You know, I'm like formulating still.
Me too.
I really, I liked it.
I liked the kills.
I do find it odd that it took us so long to get to Manhattan.
I was, I was interested to see where that part of the story was going to take place.
And it's funny, it took us a while to get there.
But I'm okay with it.
I kind of, the way the title is makes it seem as if he's going to be like going through Manhattan.
And he's really not.
He's kind of just still in swampy areas, which is okay with me.
I like the kills.
I liked the art lead characters.
I like that.
There was some melodramatic moments in there that I didn't like the script's dialogue and the pacing and the tone of it,
which I think is a direction thing because it was written and directed by the same guy.
But there was also good parts about it too.
So I would say like, I liked it.
It's not my favorite one, but I liked it.
I have multiple truths at once.
Yeah.
Number one, this made me exhausted.
Yeah.
Number two, I dug it.
Number three, this was a creepy one.
Number four, I wish it had a different title because I don't think I would have been bothered by them, by them not getting to Manhattan sooner.
Right.
If it wasn't called takes Manhattan.
Like, I wish it was called like on a boat, loose on a boat or like something, just something that didn't have to do with Manhattan necessarily.
Yeah.
And then it'd be an added bonus that we end up there.
But I do feel like they heard us that we wanted something.
completely different.
So we were on a boat and in Manhattan, and that's cool.
Yeah, I agree.
I was glad to see him in different locations.
I really liked our main girl.
I think she was a stud.
I love the realization that her
in the water, and that's the things that she's been seeing.
But I thought we were going to have a direct correlation
to what happened with our parents.
I felt like they were setting us up.
Or like, whatever happened with her parents had to do with Jason.
Right.
And that's why she's having these nightmares.
Them just being in the car accident and I felt like was kind of a
waste of screens.
Yeah, kind of.
But I did enjoy this one for sure, and I'm glad that we got to see different things.
I want to look some things up about it.
I hate, it did make sense how they looped it back around that, like, of course,
she has nightmares because Swampoy pulled her under after Uncle did that dick move
of pushing her in the lake.
So I liked when she's like, you don't remember me from the lake.
You didn't get me then.
You won't get me now, kind of a thing.
But, yeah, I.
It's funny, there was more characters.
I was right.
Okay, Batman, 89.
There was more characters in this.
The last thing I'll say is that there was more characters in this that were not a very
likable than in the other ones.
In the other ones, when we're at the camp, kind of all the characters seemed to be pretty
cool.
There's like one that's like, well, I guess it really was just the blonde girl.
She was a real doucheeruny, right?
And the rest of them were kind of okay.
So I will take that back.
Our main girl was in Major League back to the mind.
which is interesting.
Okay.
Okay, so let's see what else she did
because I really liked her.
I think you did too.
She's great.
She has 34, 27 titles as an actress.
Okay.
The last was in 2011,
The Cynical Life of Harper Hall.
She was in an episode of Get Real,
one episode of Will and Grace.
But no, really,
she was in six episodes of The Single Guy.
She was in a TV movie called Asteroid,
in a TV movie called Project Alf.
She was in four episodes of Home Improvement.
It's just weird to me
One episode is step by step
I can't believe that she did this
And that was her performance
And then not much
No
She kind of was on some popular shows right after
Jump Street the next year after this
Her first credit ever
Is for Friday 13th party
Good for you girl
And she absolutely annihilated it
So that doesn't feel fair
She did good
I feel like she should have become like a big star after this
This Rob's eating her head and guy
this seems to be his like one in uh biggest one by far oh really his first movie was a TV movie called
what is Brazil then he did two episodes of the friday 13th series and then he did this movie
um but then after that i don't recognize any of these titles except for some TV shows oh really
yeah so this was kind of it's this was the thing that
that he did.
Interesting.
Because he's a very,
he's a very cute guy.
And unfortunately,
I said the director.
Oh,
the director.
You were talking about hidden.
Okay.
Oh,
got it.
Interesting.
So after this,
he did a few TV shows,
but that's about it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Huh.
Let's see the guy.
What the hell was his name?
Sean.
Okay.
Sean,
the actor's name is Scott Reeves.
He was in,
okay,
he has 35 credits on IMD.
do I recognize any of the stuff shorts in an episode of the resident um and 14 episodes of
Nashville oh I love that show you recognize I love that show 3 and 4 episodes of general
hospital good for him he is got such a good looking face um and 565 of the young and the
restless okay so he's a soap boy tough by an angel an episode yeah so he went did soaps he yeah he's
working. He has a face to like that I'm like you belong on a soap. That's great. But look what he
ended up. You guys cut it in editors cut it in. This is what he ended up looking like.
That's not what I would guess. That's not what I expected. It's still cute, but not what I
expected. Totally a cutie pie. The guy who played Julius, let's see, he has 17 credits as an actor.
That's it? Wow.
Two episodes of Eastwick.
Okay.
Right after this,
an episode of a different world.
Huh.
You did an episode of Freddy's Nightmare,
the Friday the 13th,
I mean the Nightmare and Elm Street show.
Right.
Okay.
Oh, I guess actually he did Nightmare and Elm Street
before, Freddy's Nightmare before this.
Okay.
And an episode of Night Rider before this.
So really not that much after this.
Interesting.
This is so weird.
It's weird to see that a lot of them
don't work because you'd think this would be a big movie, but I guess, I don't know, at this
point with the eighth one takes Manhattan.
Yeah, that it was a career starter that we would think it might be. Let's get to some trivia.
Did you know?
Kane Hoder says that one of the most fun parts of his tenure as Jason were the scenes in Times Square.
He says the spectators were lined up and down the block watching him filming, I would think,
and he didn't want to take off the mask to destroy their illusion of Jason, so that every once in a while
he turned his head and look at them and watch them all go crazy.
Love that.
Love that.
According to interview in Fangoria in 1989, Kane Hoder vomited on Q in the final
scene after drinking several pitchers of water.
This was not a special effect.
God bless you.
You, like, I would have been like, I want to raise.
I'm not going to drink, like, gallons of water and then, wow, that.
You thought of a sewage.
He projectile vomited that water out.
It was literally coming straight out towards the camera.
That's insane.
That's crazy.
Wow.
Okay, let's get to this, because this is what you and I kind of have qualms with.
Rob Heaton originally wrote more of the movie to be set in New York.
He had written scenes with Madison Square Garden, Brooklyn Bridge, Statue of Liberty,
the Empire State Building.
But despite the fact that this movie had the highest budget of a Friday 13th movie at the time,
which was $5 million,
Paramount told him that there wasn't enough money to film so many scenes in New York, so he was
forced to rewrite the film and spend more time on the cruise ship.
Even most of the scenes set in New York were filmed in Vancouver.
We could kind of tell that.
Yeah.
He didn't says he agrees with fans who complain not enough time in this movie is spent in New York,
given the title.
Exactly.
Like, change the title then.
Yeah.
Despite the nature of the film and adverse filming conditions, Kane Hoder provided several
moments of levity, which were appreciated by the cast. Following several death scenes, for example,
once director Rob called Cut, Hoder would do a brief disco dance in full Jason costume and
makeup, making the cast laugh. That's sweet. I like that. This is another thing we talked about.
At 100 minutes, this is the longest running time of the Friday 13th films. Yeah, it didn't feel
that way in a bad way, but it is a little bit like when you feel the time, which I did in this one,
Normally they would have ended by then, but yeah, it felt like it was 20 minutes longer than all the others.
You know, we talk about the animal stuff a lot. This is relevant to that. In the original script,
when Jason makes it to the dock, a dog starts barking at him and he kicks it.
Nope.
Kane Coder, who was playing Jason, felt that kick and the dog was going too far. So the scene was dropped.
Oh my God. I love this man. That's too far. Thank you. It is too far.
I would be so, I would be like, nope, I don't even, I don't, I would, it would make me.
not that much of a fan anymore.
So I'm glad that he said that.
So we mentioned the budget was $5 million.
The film grossed $14.3 million.
And at the time, it was the lowest grossing film of the series,
which is what led to Paramount selling the series off to New Line Cinema.
Oh, that's too bad.
That doesn't look good for writer and directors,
which is I'm not surprised why he maybe didn't make too much stuff after this.
Well, we're busy bees and we got to go, Tara.
But let's get out of here.
So long, farewell, amigos.
That's us say goodbye.
That's not the lyrics, but you guys know.
Later, reject.com.
Yes, for sure.
Later.
Bye.
