Friends is one of the most beloved sitcoms of all time, running from 1994 to 2004 on NBC and becoming a cultural phenomenon that defined a generation. In Episodes 13–18 of Season 1, the comedy, romance, and unforgettable one-liners keep coming as the gang navigates love, friendship, and life in New York City. Highlights include Chandler (Matthew Perry – The Whole Nine Yards, 17 Again) breaking up with his girlfriend Janice yet again, Ross (David Schwimmer – Band of Brothers, Madagascar) dealing with his ex-wife’s pregnancy, and Rachel (Jennifer Aniston – The Morning Show, Marley & Me) making big decisions about her future after leaving Barry at the altar. Monica (Courteney Cox – Scream, Cougar Town) continues to struggle with her dating life, Joey (Matt LeBlanc – Episodes, Lost in Space) lands a hilariously awkward acting gig, and Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow – Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, The Comeback) provides quirky songs and wisdom from her guitar at Central Perk. Famous moments from this stretch of episodes include “The One with the Boobies,” Chandler’s “Janice laugh” return, Joey’s romance gone wrong, and the touching hospital scenes with Ross awaiting the arrival of his child. Aaron Alexander & John Humphrey react to, review, and break down all the comedy, heartfelt moments, and iconic lines that made these episodes instant classics in TV history. Starting point is 00:00:00 This week's video is sponsored by Acorns, the money app that makes it simple and cheap to make small yet significant investments. No, it's time to hang out with our friends. Let's do the thing. Gang, if you made it to this point in the video, big thank you to all you guys for sticking with us, for having fun, for hanging with your friends. We want to thank our friends over at Prepper for chopping these highlights down and getting invisible onto the YouTube's. We appreciate them.
Starting point is 00:00:35 And I like to imagine that they edit from a central perk style, you know, quaint little cozy cafe of sorts. Yes. So big thanks to them. Leave a like on the video if you could. Subscribe and hit the notification bell. So you'd be notified when the next Friends medley comes your way.
Starting point is 00:00:52 Bring it! Wait, wait, wait, you got to do it in the, clap there you go no one told you subscribing was going to be this way and hey if you happen to be listening to this in a podcast form then leave a little bit of a rating if you could very much appreciate it we got a lot of deep details to dive into
Starting point is 00:01:13 and unpack and break down I don't know if we'll get to everything because we only have a couple hours to talk about this but Aaron just some real basic thoughts real basic thoughts this was great you know we embarked in this show you know a few shoots ago and you can honestly say this has now become like a comfort watch reaction dude hell yeah i agree i agree we watch a lot of movies here and other series or whatnot on the channel but i always look
Starting point is 00:01:45 forward to our friend shoots because now we're like almost 20 episodes in and like yeah these are our friends like i'm happy to check in with them again yeah yeah it's it's It's nice. It's comfy. It's genuinely really funny. And, yeah, I'm happy to be here. John, how are you doing, right? Or what are you thinking? I am doing well as well. I'm fascinated to know because, yeah, they had Helen Hunt, who, yeah, is in a bunch of stuff. She's a twister, of course.
Starting point is 00:02:14 I haven't seen the Twister. Well, you know what? You should maybe watch it someday when they make twisters. I also need to know if. George Clooney was playing the same character that he plays in ER. Okay, yeah, George Clooney and Noah Wiley both. Was George Clooney playing his ER character on Friends?
Starting point is 00:02:39 Because, like, what a bit of corporate synergy. No, okay. That's messed up. Wow. But, yeah, why it happened. Oh, there's a whole article about why this happened. Oh, my God, when Clooney and Wiley weren't saving. lives at Cook County General Hospital is
Starting point is 00:02:56 Dr. Doug Ross and medical student John Carter of Mars on ER to briefly took a break to play doctors on friends. Blah, blah, blah, blah. While the crossover may seem somewhat random one, a random one in the hindsight of 2025, it's not as random as you think. Both NBC shows were coming up
Starting point is 00:03:13 at the same time and filmed at Warner Brothers Studios in L.A. Wiley told people that he and the future Oscar winner couldn't keep away from the friend set during downtime, and that's when someone got the brilliant idea. George and I would go over there and watch them tape. We would wrap and then we'd go over and then we'd go over there and watch them tape their show
Starting point is 00:03:33 just because we were all buddies. And I think the fact that we were hanging out there put a bug in, put in the idea in everyone's mind. So it felt quite natural and quite organic to have all these people that I knew and liked to see them be on these shows that were very popular. We were all working hard and selling them hard and it was a great time. It sounds like it. It's a fun thing. And yeah, it just kind of seemed like some kind of neat meta opportunity to be like, hey, here they are. Why not? Yeah. And, you know, Helen Hunt, I don't know if she was on some, I don't know what she would have been doing elsewise at the time. Except, I don't know, Twisters. A Twister is a 90s movie.
Starting point is 00:04:14 You know, people get enlightened us. I feel a little ashamed for not having that piece of context. But, you know, she's out here. Not Helen Hunt, because Helen Hunt, is Helen Hunt Incredibles? No, that's Bonnie Hunt. Bonnie Hunt. I believe that was Bonnie Hunt. Branies Peach Tea. Granny's Peach Tea.
Starting point is 00:04:36 That's right. That's right. But yeah, this was a very delightful set of episodes. No, it wasn't. It was Holly Hunter. Yes. There's a vortex where Helen Hunt, Bonnie Hunt, and. Helen Hunt.
Starting point is 00:04:52 And who do we? We just... Helen Hunt was in friends. Yes. Helen Hunt and Holly Hunter. Helen... Holly Hunter. Yes.
Starting point is 00:05:03 Helen Hunt and Bonnie Hunt. All walk into a bar. And one of them says, we don't serve hunters, huntses here. Okay. She was in Tremongi. She would rather dozen, which I've not seen since I was a wee lad. I don't remember anything about those movies. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:21 They set me on fire. Ooh, ooh. No, that's that. Yeah, no, that's that movie. Well, not the original cheaper by a dozen. Obs. But, yeah, do you have a favorite one in here? Ooh, that's a toughie.
Starting point is 00:05:36 Okay, what all do we watch again? I like the continuity over the two-part. I thought that was just a very fun thing. It was very kind of, like, oddly quirky and sort of foreign to have, like, a last time on. I mean, the poker one was really cool just to have them all, yeah, like, in one story together. I liked the one with John Levitt. That was a lot of fun. So what was it?
Starting point is 00:05:58 We started with 14? No, we started with... Oh, my God. That was Fisher Stevens. Okay. Another guy who we should recognize from the 90s and beyond. And he's in a bunch of stuff. Oh, my God!
Starting point is 00:06:16 He's the guy from Short Circuit who they put into Indian face. what yes he plays like an indian dude in short circuit it's one of the one of the famous cases of a weird ass casting uh yeah yeah yeah okay hell yeah there he is there he is an indian face with the robot okay fisher stevens oh goodness i think he's like performing a play in big big bear right now like doing an accent in it i think we can look up some freaking i haven't actually seen short circuit but i But I know it's status in, you know, history. He still pops up and stuff, though. So, shouts out to Fisher Stevens. Shout out. Yeah, dude. And, of course, you know, that was a very funny bit.
Starting point is 00:07:05 He was very funny in that episode. So, yeah, we got a lot of gaggle of good guest stars in this one. Yeah, all of them are great, honestly. Yeah, honestly, yes. It's always a little daunting when you're watching them in a big block like this because, you know, there's... They kind of melt. Any binge kind of melts together. But yeah,
Starting point is 00:07:26 these were really fun. And that whole thing where they go on the blind date and then friggin' Janice is back. Yeah, that was also great. And then all of them trying to see each other naked was wild. That was a truly unhinged episode.
Starting point is 00:07:38 And the likes of which I'm like, I don't know if you make this episode today. But you know, it's very fun, very madcap, very wild. We have a few questions from our friends at the Patreon,
Starting point is 00:07:50 our royal rejects. Let's jump into those now. Brandy Davis, just some enthusiasm. We love to see it. Cannot wait for friends to be posted. We cannot wait to post them at the time of shooting this. We're just stockpiling them, you know? So I don't know exactly when these are going to start dropping. I could find out, but either way. I'm glad that you're excited. Let's see. Oh, no, I got to do everyone the... There you go. Jay Rushden. Like, what location is favored in friends?
Starting point is 00:08:21 Mine is the Central Perk shop, obviously, I mean, an iconic location. Yeah, all of them are so detailed, which I really love, that you always catch little things in the background. Obviously, the main two. Central Perk, and then Rachel and Monica's apartment. Yeah, their apartment is epic. It's epic, it's big, and there's always fun little details you catch in the background. That's tough. I might have to go with the apartment.
Starting point is 00:08:50 Dude, the apartment is great. Like, Monica's apartment, Monica and Rachel. Like, I like hanging at Joey and Chandler's, but, yeah. Yeah, their apartment's like the freaking, like, yeah, the balcony with the big window and the purple accoutrements and stuff. The view of the naked guy. The view of the naked guy, iconic. Wouldn't want to live without that in New York City, honestly. No.
Starting point is 00:09:12 R.I.P. Chandler's cubicle. I'm going to miss cutting back and forth from there. Yeah. Now he's got the big old office. It's a nice window. now right so much larger than life um i was going to say any other are there any of the recurring places kind of go to rosses every once in a while rosses once in a while we went to lamal's class we went to the hospital i loved all the establishing shots of snowy new york actually like all those
Starting point is 00:09:39 like evening looking up at a lamp you know lens flare sheets of snow i was like cool i feel it I like it. And I like this sort of post-New Year's winter. But, yeah, leave us your favorite locations, Giga Gang. All right. No, no, no, I didn't do it right. There you go. All right.
Starting point is 00:09:58 Tavia Shields, which character from each would you choose to be or that you think best suits your personality? I feel like this is a question we're going to answer most times. Yeah. Because we did go over this, at least in the previous one. But I feel like it will also change as a we change. This is true. Yeah, I still feel like I'm like a Ross with, no.
Starting point is 00:10:20 Well, I feel like, yeah, I would be like Phoebe with a dash of Chandler. I think he's, is that what you said last time? That's what I went with last time. I mean, like there's a little bit of Ross in me also, for sure. I feel like I'm somewhere between Ross and Phoebe with a splash of Chandler. Sure. We're both similar beverages. They should make friends.
Starting point is 00:10:43 Okay, so when they open the real brick and morgue. Order Central perk, what they should do is add a cocktail menu where you have at least the six friends personified via beverage. Yes. Also, they shouldn't call it expressos. They should call it claps. Like, can I have a mocha with two claps, or not shots? It should call it claps instead of shots.
Starting point is 00:11:11 Can I get two claps of espresso? I get six claps of espresso? Yeah. Okay. Explain this to me. I know there are claps in the theme song. Yeah, because I know there's claps in the theme song. And they're very rapids.
Starting point is 00:11:25 Yeah. Yeah. So instead of you calling them shots, you call them claps. All right. I am going to co-sign this for a probationary period. We're going to try it out. Okay. Collect some market research.
Starting point is 00:11:37 Yeah. If you want a clap of espresso, you let us know. And go into your local coffee house and see if they can acclimate to this term. Can I get a Monty, please? Yeah. All the drinks are named after the different characters, or maybe even specific episodes. Because I know there's one episode coming up, if I remember correctly, through cultural osmosis, where somebody is wearing a turkey. I thought that was going to happen in the Thanksgiving episode.
Starting point is 00:12:11 We saw, somebody made an illusion to someone having a turkey on their head. And I was like, is there going to be the episode? I think I have in that video, like a big reaction when someone says that and then it didn't happen in that episode. And I was like, oh, I must be wrong. I don't know who it is. I think it might be Ross, but I have a vague, either cultural osmosis or deep unlocked memory from childhood. I think Ross wearing a turkey on his head with sunglasses. Or maybe he didn't have sunglasses.
Starting point is 00:12:36 I genuinely don't know. Maybe those big, like novelty ones. Yeah. Does you have a hat? No. I think it's just the chicken leg, the turkey legs. yeah we'll get there that's who we are most like is is turkey head ross joey or chanler whichever one it ends up being yes listen we got we i'm a janis
Starting point is 00:12:56 i'm a peter grip i'm a neh um um ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha la la la la no spon job yeah he's definitely sponge bob uh i am excited to see when a turkey episode kind of comes in. We have, what, six episodes left in this season. That's right. And then nine more years of TV to go. That's right. Let's go, baby.
Starting point is 00:13:24 Friends, family, I wasn't raised what you would call financially literate. At the young age, we did lose her house. I have what you might call money trauma, I guess. So when it came to running a business here, I take that very serious. And I know how to run this business. But when it comes to investing outside of that, I've always felt scared. And that's why Acorns has been absolutely amazing. For you guys who don't know what Acorns is, it's a financial wellness app that helps you invest for your future, safe for tomorrow, and spend smarter today all in one place.
Starting point is 00:13:57 Favorite part, you really don't need to be like a finance whiz. They use words like whiz now. With just your spare change, Acorns automatically invest into an expert built portfolio, and they even have a checking account that invests as you spend. And an emergency fund that grows your money over time. Before we signed up with them, I remember distinctly, one of our hosts, Roxy Stryor, tell me once how her investment in Acorns once really helped get her out of a very bad financial spot. And that, of course, stuck with me, so I went on the journey with them, and it is nice opening up that app. And I really love that you don't need like a big chunk of change.
Starting point is 00:14:29 You could start with such a small amount. First month, I started like with $20. Now I go with $100 because fortunate enough, we can. So Reject Nation, you can sign up now at Acorns.com slash real rejects and Acorns will boost your new account with a $5 bonus investment because we're talking about money I do have to say Pay on client endorsement tier two conversation provided investing involves risk acorn advisors
Starting point is 00:14:47 LLC and SEC registered investment advisor review you're disclosed at acorns.com slash rejects. Thank you again, Acorns for being part of my financial wellness life. Ricky Gardner rate six characters from most favorite to least favorite and
Starting point is 00:15:00 Fave and see how it changes through the seasons. They all change and it's wonderful to see. Also, who do you think will change the most? in the 10 Cs. That's a good one. That's a good question.
Starting point is 00:15:14 That's a good question. Chandler, I think, is a character poised for growth, and that I feel like you have to not let Joey grow too much, given the role he fills. Not that he can't grow. I think Chandler is prime for some growth, because Ross is already like a reasonable. mature guy.
Starting point is 00:15:42 So I would say him. And maybe Rachel? I mean, like, Phoebe seems like a constant. And Monica seems like she's so formed, at least in, like, her functioning in the world that, you know.
Starting point is 00:16:00 I feel like, yeah, it would be Rachel and Chandler, potentially. We'll change the most. We'll see you. So I got to go. So, Chandler, Ross, Phoebe, Joey, Rachel, Monica. That's my order. Chandler's on top.
Starting point is 00:16:22 Ross's second favorite. Phoebe's third favorite, Joey's fourth favorite, Rachel, and fifth, and Monica, six. But that could change again over time. It really could. Like, it's a hard one. Because, yeah, it's like, I like them all, and they're different. That's why I like them.
Starting point is 00:16:39 I guess, yeah, it's like, it's weird because it depends on the context. It's like, how would I rank them for which consideration? But I guess just who I like the most. Okay, rank it is like, since it's a show friends, oh, that changes my order then. Who would you actually want to be friends with? Who would you hang out with? I mean, Joey seems really fun to hang out with. Yes.
Starting point is 00:17:03 You know, Rachel seems very fun to hang out with. I feel like, you know, Chandler, you got to be on his wavelength, then you got to be able to let him be the guy when it comes to the jokes and stuff. I feel like two Chandler's in a room might get dicey. Yeah. You know, Ross seems like a good dude. But, you know, Joey's just so fun. He just seems like this is a fun time to kick it with.
Starting point is 00:17:29 And as we saw in these episodes, he's got a good heart. He's got a good spirit. He's a stand-up guy. Okay, if we're going on, based off of who we'd like to hang out with most, I think Ross would be top, then Phoebe, then Joey. Phoebe than Joey, then. Did I say Rachel? No.
Starting point is 00:17:56 No. I guess Chandler would be third, Rachel, then Monica. Because I feel like Monica would be Oh, but Monica can fucking cook, though. She's a real chef and she's a real friend. And she's a sharp cookie. Yeah. Yeah, that's true.
Starting point is 00:18:14 That's true. I feel like Chandler's a good friend. He'd make me laugh a lot. And we'd have banter. But I feel like he's so quick-witted. I would, like, feel like I have to keep up with him. Yes, exactly. That's the thing.
Starting point is 00:18:27 And you've got to be in the mood for that. Yeah. A little bit. Golly. uh chanler i don't know if i have anything in common with rachel ross rachel and ross are kind of in the middle uh joey monica
Starting point is 00:18:45 i don't know it could change like again yeah it's all it depends of like kind of how you view it because it's like oh who's the funniest or like yeah who am i most like or like who do uh i think yeah it would be like the easiest to hang out with or you know best in a crisis etc etc etc but i would love to hear all y'all's changing rank arenas as well uh there any other whimsical uh yarns you want to thread any other things you want to tell the people um
Starting point is 00:19:13 hmm yeah that's all you need to say gang this has been a real joy uh some real fun money we got a lea gul i like the lea gould shows up on occasion you know like uh yeah ross's dad that was a nice scene A lot of the stuff.
Starting point is 00:19:31 I do like, too. Like, there's a lot of fun, obviously. It's a comedy, first and foremost. But I do appreciate the scenes in which they trip the light a little more serious. Some of the heartfelt moments between Ross and his dad or with Phoebe and Joey or, you know, got some emotional Rachel moments in here, too. Yeah, I feel like those are also quite nice. And it's a nice subversion when you're like, oh, shit, this is just going to be like a real scene. Well, also, who do you think will change the most?
Starting point is 00:20:00 The 10 seasons. I'm rooting. Yeah, I think Chandler and Rachel probably for me, I think, would be the two with the most changes to be possibly made. I feel like, again, Phoebe's like a constant. Joey, I don't think you can change too much. I feel like Ross could change. Ross could change, yeah. Like, to me, he's already, like, to some degree more mature than at least Chandler and Joey.
Starting point is 00:20:30 That's true. And it's weird, and all the talk of, and obviously, I'm not, I've never, like, paid close attention to friends. But the thing that shocked me most about starting this show is, I didn't know that Ross was a dad or, like, going to be a dad. So I was like, oh, they had this whole, like, entangled, you know, marital situation. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. From the outset, you would never know. Yeah, I was like, I feel like to be a bigger part of people's conversations if he was, like, actively a dad.
Starting point is 00:20:59 But who knows? Who knows what the feature holds? We've got 10 years worth of show. Maybe he has a 10-year-old by the end of this. There you go. There it is. We're locked in. Now the wager is on. We're betting like it's poker. We should play some poker later. I did. I did. I went back in the day when we got really into poker in high school, I saved up some money. I went to Oz gifts and trinkets and shit.
Starting point is 00:21:28 and I got one of those big, like, heavy-ass briefcases with the clay chips. Yeah? I was like, yeah. I'm like the girls in the shot. I never played poker. I don't know how. Well, we're going to learn you. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:38 We're going to take your money because we're definitely going to play for real money. Yeah, baby. Gang, leave us your best poker hands in the comments below, and we'll catch you for some more friends soon enough, you know, the one with whatever happens next. Love you all, and we'll catch you next time. You get a clap of espresso. Get six of them.
