Aaron Alexander & John Humphrey react to Episodes 7–12 of FRIENDS Season 2, continuing their journey through the beloved ’90s sitcom created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman. These midseason episodes feature some of the most hilarious, heartfelt, and highly searched moments from the show’s second year — as the gang’s relationships, careers, and comedic chaos reach all-new heights at Central Perk. This stretch of Season 2 includes Ross and Rachel’s growing romantic tension, Monica’s friendship with Fun Bobby, Chandler’s office romance struggles, Joey’s acting career taking off, Phoebe meeting her half-brother Frank Jr., and the holiday Armadillo making his unforgettable debut — a run of episodes full of laughter, awkward dates, and some of the show’s most quotable lines. The legendary ensemble cast features Jennifer Aniston (The Morning Show, Marley & Me) as Rachel Green, Courteney Cox (Scream, Cougar Town) as Monica Geller, Lisa Kudrow (Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, The Comeback) as Phoebe Buffay, Matt LeBlanc (Episodes, Joey) as Joey Tribbiani, Matthew Perry (The Whole Nine Yards, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip) as Chandler Bing, and David Schwimmer (Band of Brothers, Madagascar) as Ross Geller. Packed with unforgettable Ross and Rachel moments, Joey’s ridiculous auditions, and Phoebe’s charming musical side, these episodes showcase FRIENDS at its comedic and emotional best — proving why the series remains one of the most rewatchable shows of all time. Starting point is 00:02:12 that goes like baby did a bad bad thing did it a bad bad thing is that a real song it's a real song you must have heard these things in passing I've never heard this in my entire life.
Starting point is 00:02:26 I don't know. I don't know. It's fine. You don't have to love Chris Isaac like we do. Sing to us in the comments, guys. Yeah, sing us your favorite Chris Isaacs. You guys, we're going to answer some questions from the patrons. We are.
Starting point is 00:02:40 I have to pee, so we're going to get to it. Yeah. Don't make this the one where Aaron Pees in the studio. Nope, don't make me pee in my pants. Oh, no, it's okay. We're not going to do that today. I'm just to make sure that we got everybody. and...
Starting point is 00:02:55 Oh, we are Bamba way. All right. All right. We're all set up here. Let's deal this thing. Uh, Nicki Sanarisa. Boom, boom. There we go.
Starting point is 00:03:09 How are you feeling about getting more Phoebe backstory? Which Phoebe one-liner about her past interests you the most? Oh, man. I would have to dredge up her one-liners and stuff. There's so many of them. Shit. There's a lot of good ones. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:22 I did enjoy seeing her backstory and getting to get more insight into her. We don't normally focus on her. Hell, we're freaking two and a half, we're a season and a half in. We still don't know where this girl lives. I know. And I'm very confused about her occupational situation currently because I didn't know she was still being a massage therapist. And I don't know if it's different in the 90s, but massage therapists make pretty good freaking money. I thought they were supposed to.
Starting point is 00:03:48 My friend, one of my best friends are massage therapists. And, you know, do pretty well for themselves. But yeah, we've learned some things. We know she has a sister, a twin sister, a father who's not in her life, a mom who's passed. And I know we've learned some other stuff about her, but again, we watch so many episodes in blocks. It's hard to retain all the information that has occurred over the course of these 30-ish episodes that we've currently watched. Yeah, man. I really wish I had an off-the-dome like, yeah, season.
Starting point is 00:04:22 in one through two offhand Phoebe whatever comment or whatever but oh golly that's a tough one man I did like yeah getting at least an actual glimpse into her life
Starting point is 00:04:36 and I do appreciate that we got like you know her grandma and we at least got to see where her grandma lives and that whole thing with her like you know thinking her dad's the guy in the picture frames is a really cute bit and them you know
Starting point is 00:04:51 trying to go out to his place and her not being ready to go in there and not being ready to confront just the idea of that you know it was a lot of fun and it was kind of touching in its own way and yeah I mean I would love to get more
Starting point is 00:05:07 I think part of the fun of Phoebe is that her back her background is so kind of wild and then this one too was really fun to watch her with this spirit of this old lady like inhabiting her body the one thing I don't remember the exact thing she said but I remember Phoebe had said
Starting point is 00:05:22 something to on the one where ross was having the baby when they were stuck in the closet she said something to like get them to be nice to each other yeah it was like oh i'd never had this but i can't remember exactly what it was so like does anybody compile these like is there they're popular show of all times yeah yeah i don't know i don't want to they date whatever if if we look online i hope they date the quote so it'll get spoiled on future quotes yeah yeah yeah that's the thing you know only that season half in to a 10 year long show has to be so many quotes all the quotes 32 hilarious offbeat quotes from phoebe i just need one of these quotes to being to be something where she says she used to do a thing but i don't think any of these are going to be
Starting point is 00:06:15 that no i don't want to get spoiled i don't want to get spoiled i don't like it yeah next batch of So I've asked this again, and I will keep an extra special eye out for what Phoebe one-liners about her past. Because, yeah, I wish I had an answer for that in a specific fashion. But thank you for chiming in and leave us yours. And maybe that'll spark some convo next time. Tara, hi, John and Aaron. I hope you're enjoying friends this season two so far.
Starting point is 00:06:44 What are your thoughts on the Rosh and Rachel storyline? Do you like that the writers, what the writers have done? and do you agree with Rachel for ending things after finding the list? That was a big bulk of these episodes. This was a very serial block of episodes up until the last couple, which is funny because the last one we watched is the part one of something. Yeah. And I didn't, it didn't, it struck me when we read the title,
Starting point is 00:07:09 and then it didn't strike me again until we looked up the list of episodes just now. And I was like, oh, yeah, it's got a part two. Yeah, it didn't feel like a part one. No, unless there was like a night of TV where they aired, two episodes back to back or something Oh yeah But yeah But yeah
Starting point is 00:07:25 I listen Obviously we have a lot more Show to go But I liked it for a moment I was I was enthralled In them connecting And kissing in the The night time of rain and romance
Starting point is 00:07:39 But then The next day happened He broke up with What was her name again? Julie And you know that she saw the list she was she was beside herself she was so angry and they're still not
Starting point is 00:07:55 dating you know we came so close they were still so far uh listen i would understand you know if i found someone made a list of me of the things that i didn't like about myself that they also didn't like i totally understand that but the fact that he still like wants to be with her he like these are things that are not necessarily deal breakers but things that he's observed and you know we all have opinions positive and negative about the people we are who are in our lives so i feel like if he's really like sorry and he really is you know trying to make amends trying to make it better then i i get it but i'm also like let's just let's talk let's actually just like see what our intention actually is here but you know We got to have drama, woes, and stay single. Got to keep the synergy alive, you know. So, yeah, I'm frustrated yet I understand.
Starting point is 00:08:56 But I'm like, but we could, we could be doing better. We could have better communication skills. What about you, man? What are you thinking? Yeah, it's interesting. I mean, I think they really, they, I like that they gave Rachel the opportunity to argue it back and basically be like, these are the most, these are the things I'm most secure. insecure about and to know that the person i you know have such feelings for thinks these things and was considering them as a reason not to date me or whatever is you know like that was that was
Starting point is 00:09:25 pretty real and i was like okay i get as much as i am like oh come on though like you know it's like it's you're doing the pros and cons it's everybody is not everybody does this but like it's a thing that you would do if you and a friend were trying to work something out and you're like okay well let's just beat out the pros and cons obviously that's not a document that you you're designed to show to somebody you know it's just like a diary kind of thing so yeah like i think it made for uh i think it's nice because it allows you to kind of engage with and argue with what's happening here and yeah earlier on i was like ah you know i feel like you're overacting a little bit to this and then you know her again her articulation of why um clinched it in a character way
Starting point is 00:10:09 where i'm like you know what for who you are i get it and i get why this is a big important thing to you and while yeah like there are parts of me that might be like hey come on he said he was sorry doing all these things to try and you know prove that to you but uh i like the drama of it like the dramatic like it's so rewarding when they finally you know kind of connect in the first episode we watched here you know and then the debate about how to handle it with uh julie and everything like i thought the way they handled this like serial art like this the ross rachel storyline is interesting because in a lot of episodes it's just a thing that we touch on and it's a source of like uncomfortable humor or friction based humor whereas these episodes are very much about them
Starting point is 00:10:55 you know kind of actually confronting the fact that they both have feelings finding out what the timeline of that was you know you think you're right there to getting it you know into a place where they can actually be together and then this happens and it's a really funny gag that leads to it but then you know an actual consequence that comes out of that so yeah i think it's one of those instances of dipping out of the comedy that makes the show probably as enduring as it has been is they take the time for that drama for that sort of like two things can be true at once kind of uh you know trickiness of life uh and yeah i i really like that storyline in the episodes that we saw and i have liked it up until this point and uh i am kind of bummed that rachel is so averse to being with ross another thing with russ was really funny and her realizing that Russ is kind of like a Ross copy I thought was really good
Starting point is 00:11:49 and just the way like yeah I can tell right now that she's she said that thing I'm like I don't really feel anything one way or the other about Ross and I'm like I don't know I can I can feel the character kind of grappling and it makes the conflict feel very alive and yeah right now it's looking pretty hopeless and I know that one of the big things about the show
Starting point is 00:12:07 is the will they won't they so yeah as like this was a really funny batch of episodes but I like that, you know, a good two-thirds of them were, you know, at least marked by this ongoing, you know, more dramatic relationship story. I think it's nicely balanced. Yeah, I wholeheartedly agree. And I'm curious to see the ebbs and flows of what this becomes. And yeah, I'm still along for the ride.
Starting point is 00:12:35 I love these characters. They frustrate me, but I get where they're coming from. Yeah, I think it's fun to be like, oh, or right on the edge, you were going to give you what you want. Oh, no, there's some other conflicts coming in. Like, I can feel them having fun with us. Oh, yeah. And also bringing in a good amount of just real-life relationship nuance, which I appreciate. It's important for a show like this.
Starting point is 00:12:55 100% prove it's, you know, based on real entanglements and experiences. That's why it's so relatable. It's why it's so good. Michelle, episode seven of this season is one of the best of the entire show. I got that sense, especially when we get to those later moments. I was like, oh, this must be a fan favorite. This must be like a landmark episode. And yeah, it lives up to that.
Starting point is 00:13:17 Have you guys ever drunk dialed a crush or have been drunk dialed by someone who is crushing on you? Hmm. Um, no. Uh, I would like to think that when I am inebriated, I have a little bit more sense than not. But I have drunk cults or drunk FaceTime people that I was dating actively, but a crush or or an ex or somebody god know i feel like i have a little more self-control than that but if i'm already comfortable in the thing that's that's happening yeah i'll give you a call i'm a i like to you know be silly and goofy and you know introduce them to the people that i'm i'm with or the
Starting point is 00:13:58 the scenario and maybe even like a a drunk voice note it's fun but never never a crush what about you not really i mean like i i i'm lucky enough uh not i'm lucky enough to have like a pretty good grip on like where my line is yeah uh so i don't really go to the point where i would like drunkenly call someone and not remember or whatever um i i'm more likely i have been drunk dialed by someone crushing on me i am more likely to like send a text or something like that rather than like call somebody i might in my version of this is more sort of like i'm a little buzzed and i feel less you know anxious and inhibited so i'm going to say what's up you know in some kind of colorful way and if something happens cool and if it doesn't find cool that's kind of my vibe
Starting point is 00:14:55 uh you know i'm not yeah i'm lucky to not have had very many like oh god what did i say you know kind of situations no i've had situations where i was like um communicating with the crush well not sober um and that was an interesting experience sure um it was not from alcohol though oh i will not say what it was but heroin yep i'm on that hard isish you know um Yep. No, but yeah, it was fun. So that's the closest I think I can say I've been to this question. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:41 Yeah. Yeah. Well, appreciate you, Michelle. Leave us transcripts of all your guys' drunken dials in the comments below. Angela Vance, John and Aaron. Who's your favorite character, mine are Joey and Phoebe. Love them. Golly, man.
Starting point is 00:15:59 It's hard to pick a favorite. I'm still with Chandler and Ross, man. I love them all, man. I love Chandler and Ross, but I think Phoebe is the best dress of the show. Phoebe got the drips. Drips all day, every day. Yeah, Chandler and Phoebe are probably my favorite, too. But I like everybody, man.
Starting point is 00:16:17 Everybody's great. I like everybody on the show. Monica's even growing on me as well. Monica's been really fun to watch, especially in these handful episodes. When she's trying to get Chandler to a freaking workout, and he, like, A, just like, there was some really fun. When they're doing that bit out the front of the central perk window. She pushes him.
Starting point is 00:16:34 She pushes him. And, like, it's so funny. And then, yeah, him, that was, that was truly wild. Him, like, like, breaking her down just so that he wouldn't have to go exercise. Like, you are evil, my guy. Yeah. Diabolical right there. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:16:50 You just broke into her psyche and just to save yourself from trying to lose a pound. And it's, like, little things like that. Or, like, in the next episode, she's at that job interview with Michael McKee. about the mocklet. I'm like, it's not a serial beat in its presentation, but like it comes out of that last episode. It's weird. Like, it's an oddly subtle approach to being serial in the face of other stuff like Ross and Rachel. It's like clearly very serial. Yeah. And it was interesting that the note of that ending was like sad kind of. Yeah. Yeah. I was like, oh, we're just not ending on like a funny bit. We just went to like black credits out of that. Well, it was weird. It was like
Starting point is 00:17:26 it was supposed to be kind of funny that he like ushers her to the couch. But I was like, no. No, this is just cruel. Yeah, this is insane. You're just like a little dance after? Like, there's a mean streak in Chandler that we need to, you know, exorcise before he gets a happily ever after. Yeah, man. But, yeah, episode seven, the one where Ross finds out was truly like a really great standout. That was my favorite of the block, I'd say.
Starting point is 00:17:51 Yeah. Well, I enjoyed all of them, but yeah, I think that was my favorite for block. Yeah, yeah. I was going to say the one with the list was a fun one, too. And Monica and the mock list. It was a good thread of that. The one with Phoebe's dad, it was really cool to get, yeah, some backstory into Phoebe, or just a glimpse into more of her life.
Starting point is 00:18:10 And then, let's see, were there any other, like, crazy? The bit with the cookies, I thought was fun. We got another Christmas episode in here. That's right, Fun Bobby became not fun. I'm going to miss Fun Bobby. I hope he comes back in more fun than before. Props to Joey getting the days of our lives. I like the Joey on Days of Our Lives.
Starting point is 00:18:30 actually is like kind of decent at his scenes yeah after the whole thing about the play being so terrible uh i like that yeah he at least the whole thing with uh freaking uh brook shields was bonkers it was pretty wild um but uh yeah it was at least like a just a neat excuse to have her here and like doing some comedy um i'm trying to think the uh marcelle thing i thought was really fun i thought the russ bit was really fun uh and the lesbian wedding episode was really sweet like Like Ross, you know, dropping all the pettiness and basically being like, nah, dude, if you love her, like, it doesn't matter if your parents are coming or not. You should go.
Starting point is 00:19:09 Yeah. I loved that. And then, yeah, Rachel's mom getting the divorce. That's a fun one. Marlowe Thomas has got to be, yeah, like a famous actress. Actress, producer, author, and social activist series, That Girl. That girl. And her children's franchise, free to be you and me.
Starting point is 00:19:25 Damn, okay. Yeah, I was going to say, is she the one who does the St. commercials either way very fun to have her and then yeah part one of two with Chris Isaac
Starting point is 00:19:35 and Brooke Shields they've hit us with a few like big cameos in the recent ones and you got Dan Castellanetta who plays Homer
Starting point is 00:19:42 and like another huge swath of Simpsons so yeah man this was a studded bunch of episodes and yeah I feel like
Starting point is 00:19:50 every season we live through like a this really messes with my sense of timing because we go through like a Thanksgiving
Starting point is 00:19:55 and a Christmas and other stuff we didn't have a Halloween this time around much i don't feel like unless it was in the last block of episodes but yeah but yeah it's a fun fun batch this was a good one this was a great one and i love that the kids like honesty and their music i feel okay about our generation because that was our generation yeah kids appreciate that authenticity yeah all righty you guys that'll be each for us today before we do johnny
Starting point is 00:20:27 any final thoughts where we wrap it up? I'm also happy that Lauren that Julie and Russ got together. I thought that was hilarious. I thought that was freaking hilarious. I hope we see them together down the road. Honestly, I do too.
Starting point is 00:20:40 And I think their split screen effects and their doubling stuff was really fun. Yeah, the fact that you touched him in frame I was like, how did that? I was like, yeah, watching... Especially back then on TV shows. Yeah, I was like, this is the 90s because we were watching the parent trap
Starting point is 00:20:52 I remember and going like, wow, these are really impressive. And yeah, there were times where you could tell they were using doubles for stuff. but yeah there were a few shots where i'm like oh they at least yeah made it very convincing with the split screen and the makeup and all that stuff um so yeah it was good um yeah you guys well i'm excited for the next block i'm excited to see what happens of our friends with ross
Starting point is 00:21:16 and rachel and all the things but uh yeah until next time you guys stay groovy stay friendly and see you in the next one Thank you. Thank you.
