Aaron Alexander & John Humphrey react to Episodes 7–12 of FRIENDS Season 4, a legendary run that delivers some of the most quoted jokes, boldest sitcom swings, and defining relationship beats of the entire series. Created by David Crane & Marta Kauffman, these episodes balance big emotional consequences with outrageous comedy as the group’s dynamics shift in unforgettable ways. This stretch includes the following episodes: Episode 7, “The One Where Chandler Crosses the Line,” where Chandler’s guilt over kissing Kathy detonates friendships; Episode 8, “The One with Chandler in a Box,” featuring one of the show’s most absurd punishments as Chandler literally sits with his shame; Episode 9, “The One Where They’re Going to Party!” as Ross spirals trying to keep multiple relationships afloat; Episode 10, “The One with the Girl from Poughkeepsie,” where Ross finally has to choose and loses it all; Episode 11, “The One with Phoebe’s Uterus,” which blends heart and humor as Phoebe agrees to carry her brother’s children; and Episode 12, “The One with the Embryos,” an all-time classic that ends with the apartment trivia game and the shocking switch that changes the show forever. Starting point is 00:00:25 this week's videos are sponsored by prize picks the easy to use fantasy sports betting app more on them in just a bit i'm excited me too we're going to get into it we are we have done it we've done it gang gangroonies we've done it we've done it we have officially finish this block thank you For watching. Feelewell, feeling well, feeling swell. Also, if you listen to this on the apples or the Spotify, make sure we can go and give us five freaking stars.
Starting point is 00:01:06 Also, we want to thank the people over prepper for cutting down these highlights. Heck yeah. So you can see them. We're happy you guys been enjoying these. Yeah. I would hate if you were suffering through them. I would be real, real sad, real big sad. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:01:20 I have to change my name to Chappanler. Chabandler Bonk. Chabandler Bonn. Chabandler Dong. Yep. That's my third name. That's your third nipple. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:31 Like Chinandler. Exactly. That's what I name it. Yes. How do you feel about these block, Johnny Boy? I feel good about this block. This was an epic block. This is a very fun one.
Starting point is 00:01:43 I'm very, very, I feel like, again, in the displacement of these episodes across, you know, six or so, sometimes even seven episode chunks, we get lucky in where we, like, get to pick up and leave off so like having this weird not quite cliffhanger but you know this sort of interesting prospect that we're about to maybe i don't know how like it i don't know how long to expect them to commit to these things and you know obviously there's a lot that can happen with phoebe but part of my brain is like i guess they're just going to switch these apartments and she's going to be pregnant for a while yeah it's just crazy i wholly did not expect them to switch apartments i thought that was going to be just a thing which rachel did a kicking and screaming man absolutely if they did it i don't know how we're going to get all that stuff organized in that new
Starting point is 00:02:28 space but i'm very curious to see how it goes yeah yeah this was really fun though i adored that first episode with chandler with ross and the keyboards that was uh and phoebe be like the only person who like really appreciates his weird sound his sound yeah it was very very funny i would say yeah that episode in this one are my favorites yeah really good bookends and too i mean i liked, you know, it was a bit of an emotional. I like when they mix in the heavier relationship stuff with the fun stuff, so you get the saga of Chandler and
Starting point is 00:02:58 Joey and Kathy, I thought was pretty good. We got another Thanksgiving in this run, you know, which I feel like is like that even more than Christmas or whatever, it seems like the tradition of this show is like you get a pointed Thanksgiving episode and then a few Christmas time stories.
Starting point is 00:03:14 Yeah. But yeah, God, I feel like we did. Timothy freaking Richard's son was crazy. yeah uh that a little quick one off that definitely was a bit of a wild card in here uh and the whole thing with monica getting the job at alessandro's after like the the bad review rachel trying to get the blooming dale's assistant job and all the crazy shit with joanna and that character died died it's like unhinged a little bit and it's funny because yeah part like you know we learned stuff in between shoots about trivia and things and i'm like yeah what what caused like why did
Starting point is 00:03:49 they decided to switch apartments was there a practical reason like you know the bottle episode where everyone's trying to get ready was like oh they needed to like do a cheap episode so they wrote a bottle episode and so like sometimes i wonder if they're just having fun and this is what they came up with or if yeah there was some reason they had to do this um but uh the whole gandalf thing and them feeling like oh you know we're trying to relive our old party days and then deciding that it's okay to kind of accept that you know you don't have quite as much stamina but you can still have fun i hope we get to meet gandolph one day yeah yeah i do too i think that would be i mean at this point i kind of expect anything they do to to potentially come back if it wants to yeah um the whole thing with rachel and chanler and
Starting point is 00:04:30 like him telling everyone she's looking for a fling and then recanting on that and being like she wants a committed relationship and all that was like a funny bumper cars kind of a plot line uh and then chandler being like educated by monica and uh rachel on how to make love I've heard the seven thing before Yeah But you're seeing it in context It's so much better Yeah
Starting point is 00:04:55 And you know the conflict of I was kind of expecting Like a crazier thing To happen out of the whole like Joey waiter I got to fire you plot line But it's still fun Yeah it was off it so fairly quickly Yeah
Starting point is 00:05:06 We've got to wrap this up And this wacky game of like Ross Being torn between these two girls And then falling asleep on the train And then there's yeah They're third girl This third girl And two like Phoebe's
Starting point is 00:05:18 Christmas song, I thought was very fun. And then, yeah, this saga with Frank Jr. is back. And I guess I must have just forgotten that maybe they left off with him and Alice actually just deciding to stay together. It's a little fuzzy because obviously we've shotgunned a lot of these. But yeah, I do find it fascinating that
Starting point is 00:05:34 they choose sometimes to do these bigger you know, ruminations on something like that. You might as a young person, entertain being somebody surrogate and like, what's that going to do to your life is just kind of like a fascinating thing to choose to explore here. But also very Phoebe.
Starting point is 00:05:50 Yeah. I would say so. It is very, very feeby indeed of her to do that. And I'm very curious to see where they end up going with that. Yeah. Yeah. Also, will we ever find out what happened to her dad? Because it made it seem like at the end of last season that she went there and the dad knew,
Starting point is 00:06:06 or she had a picture of her and the Phoebe's dad, then we just never picked it up again. I'm like, oh, all right. Yeah, I don't know. It's funny because, you know, obviously it's cool to have Terry Gar around and it's cool now to have Giovanni Rubizi around. And I wonder if they're still kind of holding on to a last reveal or some kind of guest star that eventually they'll, you know, I don't know. I think it's kind of neat that at least there's a couple threads from early on that are still persisting. But yeah, I have no idea if we're just going to drop that or pick it back up at some point. Yeah. The thing in the museum, I thought was really funny with the jackets and Joey working with Ross and them, you know, having this, you know, little revolution in the break room cafeteria thing.
Starting point is 00:06:45 and then and then yeah freaking what was that sorry I got caught up we have like a little breakdown of the episodes here but yeah
Starting point is 00:06:57 and then the game I thought the game was really fun too yeah just that whole like which of us knows each other better and yeah yeah it's weird like a thing to compete so heatedly over like how well you know your friends
Starting point is 00:07:07 and then to like yeah be in this weird wager where now there's like discord among everybody yeah I would never want the stakes to get that high I would love to play like a who knows who game with some friends. That'd be hilarious.
Starting point is 00:07:19 Yeah. I hope, uh, oh, let's see, ranked this episode, uh, the one with the embryos number 21 on the list of 100 greatest TV episodes in 2009 TV guide ranked that. They got there. No, it was readers, was it Reader's Digester TV Guide with the Chinat Lorbonne. I think it was TV guide. Yeah. But either way, this is very, as I can see why everyone says, like, you know, we're in that peak stretch now because this was another hilarious. various episode. I think we have a little
Starting point is 00:07:47 bit of feedback from the people. What the people's saying today? Jump in real quick. Game night, J-14. No, no, no, wait. Hang on. I don't know where it is. The one with the friends. Where's the friends at? Where's the friends at?
Starting point is 00:08:03 Where are my friends? Let me at him. There we go. All right. Oh, we got some. Yeah, I got like five. Mary Soul. This episode is brought to you by prize picks, the app that finally let me crash my wife's fantasy sports click yes i used to overhear her and her friends bonding while i sat in the corner where my arms folded come to my home and i can't be included trying to pretend like yeah i know what yards after catch means
Starting point is 00:08:29 just fell left out man and then i discovered prize picks so here's the deal it's daily fantasy sports not gambling no playing against sharks or betting against the house it's just you versus your own sports brain you pick more or less on two or more their stats like will Luca Donchich score more than 30 points tonight? Will Christian McCaffrey rush for less than 85 yards? Sports things. And if you're right, you win. Another thing, too, it's fast. You can make a lineup in under a minute, playing 30 plus states.
Starting point is 00:08:59 And you're not stuck to just NFL or NBA. You've got MLB, NHL, college football, even e-sports. Basically, if it has stats, you can play. And basically, I now can hang out with my wife and her friends. 10 years in the making. And when I get one right, it does feel good. So, fellow reject, what you can do today is you can download the Price Picks app. Use Code Rejects to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup.
Starting point is 00:09:25 That's code Rejects to get $50 in lineups after your first $5 lineup. Prize Picks, it's good to be right. Here we go. Mary Soul, these questions, these episodes are pure gold. Episode 12 is my favorite, definitely in my top five. since y'all are such a tight knit at Real Rejects group now who would you play the game
Starting point is 00:09:45 like we were just talking about and who among you knows everyone's little stories who works the best who's the most competitive Monica like I'm curious it would be a very fun game to play
Starting point is 00:09:53 I feel like Roxy might have the biggest like lexicon of all of us because she does so much grabbing of clips and things and sort of I feel like it'd be Greg I feel like Greg will probably
Starting point is 00:10:05 win it who knows if everybody's like things because he like checks in He is like the master brain between us all. He is the intersection through which we all have sort of, you know, come to be here. Yeah, yeah, for sure. So, yeah. Who's the most competitive, though?
Starting point is 00:10:20 I don't know. That'd be tough. Roxy doesn't like games, so I'd have to imagine it would be, it would be, uh, and it'd be Andrew or Greg, I think. Maybe Koi? Maybe. If you got really locked into it, I could see. I would want to do a good job just to prove that I care. I'm circumstantially competitive.
Starting point is 00:10:39 I'm only competitive at things that I know I can be good at. Yeah. But if something I'm bad at, I'm just, I have to, I have to say this is just for fun or otherwise I get salty. So I can't, I can't legitimately play a game if it's not something I have some competency in. Yeah, yeah, I feel that. And I can definitely see why this is one of, like, the top most loved episodes is such a great, like, the literal game of the episode combined with the game of what that does for, yeah, the setup of things. all the stakes and yeah it was very fun very fun episode awesome joe movie reviews if you were in chandler's shoes how long would you be capable of staying in a box to be forgiven if you
Starting point is 00:11:20 couldn't do it uh i couldn't do it since i'm claustrophobic i'd probably last a minute literally thanks for your time keep on living the dream and as always stay awesome i guess it depends on the crime yeah i mean like i'm i'm i'm like claustrophobic within reason i guess like that box looked very unpleasant but i feel like i could sit in there for a while if i had to especially that airhole if i can't like if i'm like truly confined and i like cannot extend myself in any way then i might not be so much about it but i don't know that box looked like it would suck but be palatable if i had to grip my teeth do i have do i have like padding in the box because i feel like i i don't think i would get claustrophobic unless i'm
Starting point is 00:12:07 I couldn't, if I couldn't lay down straight, then I might get claustrophobic. I don't think it's about padding because you're supposed to be thinking about what you did. You're supposed to be suffering in there. I know, but I'm in the box. It's just empty. It's just a wooden box. Maybe there's like some packing hay or, you know, straw or some peanuts in there if you're lucky. But I feel like the point is it's uncomfortable.
Starting point is 00:12:29 If I was in his shoes. Supposed to suffer. Yeah. I feel like I could last in the box if it's for a friend, a friendship that I'd, value as much as Joey and Chandler value their friendship. Yeah. I feel like I could do it. Could you do it? Leave us a comment
Starting point is 00:12:44 and prove it. Stephanie Horton. Hey John and Aaron. Hey to you. Thank you for chiming in. This is a really great set of episodes. Here, here it is. So excited to see y'all react to them. I feel like the overarching theme is how far would you go? So how far would you go to date someone
Starting point is 00:13:01 with a bet to show someone you regret what you have done, to show someone you care, or to give a family member, a loved one, a gift to commemorate a special occasion. You can choose whichever version of the question. How far? Golly. How far?
Starting point is 00:13:16 I guess it is a running theme with these batch of episodes. I'm glad of that way. This is an existential question. I mean, goodness. How far do you go to date somebody? As far as I have to, I guess. Yeah, it depends. Show someone you care.
Starting point is 00:13:30 You go as far as you have to go, you know? Show someone you care. Again, it's all circumstantial, but I guess theoretically, everything. circumstantial but yeah i would go as far as i as far as i need to i would do anything for love but i won't do that yeah yeah that part is about as far as i would go i would say but comment below let us know yeah i'll keep uh i'd go as far i'd go i'd go the distance for a family member especially a close family yeah yeah as far as the the the girlfriend thing in the situation I don't know if I'd be in Chandler's shoes myself
Starting point is 00:14:08 But you know to each his own When it's important I can get there When it's like really truly like deep and urgent And important I can get there I would love to be able to go As far as to get that level of delivery upon Even smaller stakes things To show someone I care I'll go as far as time and money allows
Starting point is 00:14:29 There you go How far would you go? Far would you go? last couple evil carry thank you for chiming in hey john and aaron in episode seven we see ross's musical talents do you have any secret talents at all
Starting point is 00:14:42 hope you are well best wishes from england um i i i'm not brushed up on it but you know i used to do martial arts with gregg back in the day and uh i have used some like martial arts weapons and stuff and i once won a gold medal for doing like bow techniques
