Tara Erickson & Andrew Gordon dive into the epic world of Westeros with their Reaction & Review of Game of Thrones Season 1, Episodes 1 & 2 — based on George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels. The groundbreaking HBO series begins with Episode 1: Winter Is Coming, where we meet the honorable Stark family of Winterfell, led by Eddard “Ned” Stark (Sean Bean, The Lord of the Rings, GoldenEye), his wife Catelyn Stark (Michelle Fairley, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows), and their children including Jon Snow (Kit Harington, Eternals, Pompeii), Robb Stark (Richard Madden, Bodyguard, Cinderella), Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner, X-Men: Dark Phoenix), and Arya Stark (Maisie Williams, The New Mutants). Across the realm, we meet the cunning Lannisters, including Cersei (Lena Headey, 300, Dredd), Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Headhunters), and the sharp-tongued Tyrion (Peter Dinklage, Avengers: Infinity War, Cyrano). Meanwhile, beyond the Narrow Sea, exiled princess Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Me Before You) and her brother Viserys (Harry Lloyd, The Iron Lady) align with powerful warlord Khal Drogo (Jason Momoa, Aquaman, Dune). Episode 2, The Kingsroad, escalates tensions as Daenerys is forced into marriage, Jon Snow joins the Night’s Watch at The Wall alongside Benjen Stark (Joseph Mawle), and a shocking act of betrayal pushes young Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) into a tragic fate. It started with a scream inside a quiet Maryland home,
a mother trying to protect the family dog and her son in the grip of a violent hallucinogenic rage.
By the time it was over, she was dead, and he claimed LSD made him do it.
His name, David Minor the 4th, and we talked to him.

Don't we live up, don't we have a prequel show too?
You're like, let's just do season one.
Yeah, we got to do Game of Thrones.
Okay.
So it's season one, episode one and two, we're watching.

thank you do paper as well for writing down these highlights i'm sure it was extremely difficult
with game of throne so we appreciate them yeah pepper's the best all right guys we're going to
dive into our questions because we have a lot first ones from hugo torres game of thrones came out
14 oh my god 14 years ago i wonder you forgot how have you all managed to stay away this long
Well, one answer.
That's for him.
One answer.
Smallville.
I watch a lot of it, as you all know.
Not even a lot of it.
He has watched all 11 seasons like 17 times.
Fun fact, by the way.
I haven't shared this with anyone in my personal life or you are the first to know.
And so is Tara.
I saw the actor who plays Brainiac in Smallville.
And he also plays Spike, I believe, in Buffy.
He was just walking right past me yesterday when I was getting some Mexican food.
I was like, oh shit, there's Brainiac.
There's Spike.
I think his name is James Marsters
If I remember correctly
I was like I actually wanted
I was gonna go say hi to him about
I was on a really important phone call
so I didn't
But I was like I'm the biggest
Smallville fan ever
Nerd alert
I know I should have and I should have
I would have taken a picture with him
And then I would have sent it to you first say
I was with someone from Smallville
And then I would have posted it
But yeah that's why
Lots of Smallville entourage
I rewatch a lot of stuff
So but you know what I get to share
My reaction with you so
he's one of those weird ones
who watch a series of shows
over and over and over and over
over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and I
can tell you by these first two episodes Tara
that I'm I'm sure that this is a show I will rewatch
granted I will probably skip the animal death part
I didn't say away I watched it when it
initially came out which is why I don't
I remember some things of course
but I don't remember a ton but that's why I
am here. All right, second question. Go Paul, go pal, sorry if I'm, we mispronouncing anyone's
name. Thank you for being a royal reject. I'm for asking a question. We appreciate it. I'm so excited
you are starting this journey. A lot happened in the first episode. My memory is a little dim on the second.
How are you feeling about Circe and Jamie? That's the brother and sister. Yeah, of course, of course,
the Lannisters. How am I feeling? Well, they really care about their family in an interesting
dynamic i'll say that uh they're very cruel and awful so far as how i feel about them the performances
are incredible though from the actors and i'm sure you're gonna hear me say that at nauseam again i i i like
to point that a lot when i see actor because i i've attempted acting it's very freaking hard
especially when you're on sets you're with crews everyone just wants to go there get out of
there it's not easy to perform and to perform under pressure so i love
like giving credit where credit is due.
So performance-wise, I think they're fantastic character-wise.
Yeah, they're extremely unhinged.
And also just like they send chills down my spines in all the wrong way.
And you can tell, too, that this whole thing is a game of getting Robert out of power as a king, it seems like.
And they're just positioning themselves for Joffrey possibly to take over.
What it's what I'm gathering how I'm interpreting it so far.
far so yeah um but uh so far again my favorite character is tyrian i love him and i think you know
as the the old quote would go from yoda size matters not and i just i love how wise he is and i love
that he relies on his mind and his wit uh to to get him far and he's it's peter dinkly which is so
freaking good i love his comedic beats and how it's it really adds a lot of levity to the to the bleakness
of uh certain moments of the show so he's so damn good yeah and he's very
opposite the rest of the Lannisters, which I know you can say, well, yeah, look, I don't mean in terms
of size. I just mean in terms of personality, in terms of charm, in terms of the way he presents
himself. He is so opposite. He was even slapping around his nephew because he has been so diluted
in the way he has been brought up and had such bad mentorship and he's trying to steer him
the right way. And I appreciate that because family does mean a lot to him. Yeah. So I think like I
learned so much about Tyrion too. So, uh, yeah. Seriously. And
and Jamie are very egotistical and obviously fucked up.
So I hate them for what they did to Bran and, you know, like she yells it three times like,
but he saw.
And he's like, yeah, I heard you the first time.
And just to be that sort of savage to a child shows who you truly are.
And it's not just Jamie.
It was Searsie saying basically with the other.
undertone of we have to kill him now and then obviously sending a murderer after him later i mean
it's just it's whackadoo and when you think about it it's like have you really kept your affair that
fucking quiet that like what you think this one kid is the only person who knows and are you who are
you just going to kill everybody like uh i i hate them um and if you're a little dim on the second
episode go paul uh that's where they killed lady and it's the fucking worst and just really quickly
too we'll get on the next question you know they're talking about the the hand of the king and how he
they obviously killed him i'm wondering if it was not only to like you know position themselves
for power but i wonder if he found out about just like throwing predictions i wonder if he found out
about the affair too maybe just because just because you said that that made me think that in my mind
i was never i was not even thinking that in any way so i'm just curious if we're going to find out more we shall
we'll see we'll see
Nickerson. I'm so interested in what characters you both are drawn to over time. But in the
meantime, if all of you at RR were gifted to dire wa for her, they might be trying to Jurassic Park
those in real life. What would their names be? Oh, boy. Give us some option. I know. This is more
of like, what would your names be? I would love it. And I've said this multiple times, but it went
sometimes you guys ask questions. What does help if you give us multiple choice? I mean, this is
like whatever in general i agree with that but this one is like a specific thing for us to pick but yes i do
agree with you on that um you know my cat's name was mr bigglesworth and i know that probably
doesn't fit with a wolf but i still love that name and in honor of my cat mr bigglesworth i'm
going to go with mr bigglesworth okay love it love it love it i don't know i think i'd call
it like sprinkles or something was just so much not like not like a wolf you know what i mean um all right
next question tory jerry i feel like most people who haven't seen go t have an idea of what it's
about but are surprised when they actually watch it were you surprised by anything did anything
challenge any preconceived notions of what you thought the show was well it's definitely again
two episodes in obviously so it's as epic as i've been hearing for all these years it's two
episodes in and what surprised me uh what i would say so far is there hasn't been much action so
I was expecting, I'm sure it's going to ramp up.
I have no doubt.
But like the character moments, the exposition, the dialogue is so incredible.
And like I immediately know who these characters are so quickly.
And there's a lot of characters, by the way.
And I know that not only because of what I was seeing, but in my peripheral, I was seeing Tara write a lot of characters names as well.
So the point I am making is when you have that many characters, you have a challenge as a writing team, rather.
how are we going to make it easy for the audience not only to follow all this as a storyline
but make it so that they understand who all these characters are and what their motivations are
and the why and what they're trying to achieve i feel like i personally two episodes in so far
understand all of that and it was a lot and i think they did a great job of capturing all that in one
you know what i mean did it challenge any your preconceived notions that was basically it right
Yeah, okay. Awesome.
Thank you for the question.
All right from Jay Russian.
What up, Jay?
What character are you most like there?
I'm John Snow according to people.
You bastard.
I'm just kidding.
Aria Stark.
You are Aria?
Okay.
Remind me not to get into a little wooden sword battle with you or do bows and arrows with you as well.
You will upstage me, Tara.
I've probably Jaff.
I'm just kidding.
Oh, God.
he's a piece of shit uh you know i would say what's richard madden's character's name uh who that actor is i'm the worst
he's the one uh he's the stark he's the older the other rob okay so i would say rob because like i feel like he's had to he's had to become the man of the house if you will in his father's absence yeah and he's very i would say john snow and i would say like i'm a combo of both of them like just i feel like i'm noble and courageous like not trying to
toot my own horn in any way.
You know nothing, John Snow.
Yeah, but I like to think I am and I'm selfless in that way as well.
And also, too, when need be, I'll be there for my family no matter what and step up to the
plate if need be.
So I would say I would compare myself to those too, for sure.
But I don't know if I'm as brave as them, but I would try to be.
Yeah.
I love Aria Stark.
She's one of my favorites.
Tyrion's probably at my top.
I like to say that I drink and I know things too, which we'll get too late.
which we'll get two later.
But you'll see as Ario goes through this,
she is just a character that I'm like,
hell yeah, let's freaking go.
I think we saw, if I'm not mistaken,
totally a little off topic of her,
I think we saw Aria in the last X-Men movie
we reacted to, the one where they were,
I forgot that I'm totally space again the name.
I think so, because I think I said,
oh, Game of Thrones or something, right?
I remember all the times you said,
Game of Thrones.
I'm like, I have no contact.
other than maybe one actors, though.
Right.
Thank you for the question, Jay.
We appreciate it.
All right.
Mark Leach, Game of Thrones.
Woo, so glad you're starting this show.
Who's your favorite character you've met so far?
I'm guessing it's Tyrion.
You're right, Mark.
Good guess.
Can't we to enjoy this weekly ride.
It's going to be a blast.
Yeah, Bark, we got it went over it.
But you were correct.
That was a great prediction.
That was a great, you know, answer or a question rather and statement you made.
It's Tyrion by far.
I just, I love everything.
I love his personality.
I love his charm, his wit,
and I love the performance so far from Peter Dinklage.
So is that you're also your favorite character?
Yeah.
I mean, Tyrion and Aria will always be probably at the top of my list.
We haven't seen enough from Aria yet, but I was going to say that's high praise from you because I like her a lot so far.
I like how she's like, I would say the only way I would compare myself to Arian and a grand,
she's a lot younger.
I feel like I'm very, well,
wouldn't say she's misunderstood but almost like invisible like like nobody gives her that respect and
she's got to earn it so i feel like a lot of times too i'm like i'm not seen in that way right you know
what i mean so i'm like i could compare in that way so if you're giving her high praise like i like
i like i like i can't wait as the show like develops her character more i'm like you just got
me even more pumped i love that i'm glad all right you take the next one san rack uh thank you for
being a royal reject and for asking a question we appreciate it i can still remember how i felt
after watching the first two episodes years ago,
exhilarated, fully engaged,
so ready for more that I couldn't help but binge, understandable.
How do you both feel now that you've seen the first two?
Any emerging theories?
Looking forward to going on this journey with you both.
Thank you so much.
Yeah, I would describe all the feelings you just said,
and I love these first two episodes again.
I think, like, the idea that you have to have so many characters
in one show and so many different like A plot, B, P plots, C plots to follow,
and everything is so understandable
and not like, holy shit,
Tara, guys, I'm like so freaking confused.
I have no idea what's going.
It's really easy to follow, actually, for the most part.
And I'm very invested in all the characters,
even the ones I dislike.
And it adds a level of tension and stakes as well
because I know how dangerous the Lannisters are,
as well as, even though we only saw for like a minute or two,
the White Walker's like it's like we're not even dealing with that shit.
There's so much in-house drama.
And also we didn't even talk about the sniffling brother of Cali.
see like he doesn't even view his sister as a human being he's just it's just a pawn in his
game of of craving power you see he's kind of like the lannisters in the air it's just the
worst yeah in that sense so uh so many fascinating characters but you know a storyline i was
really drawn to terra uh was the the stepmom and john snow like i totally understand where
she's coming from like and i and i'm also of the belief too the child should never have to pay
for the sins of the father because he did not do anything but also too from the mothers
like I try to be a man of perspective because I'm a very empathetic human being so I think from her perspective my interpretation is this this young man John Snow reminds me of this mistake that he is the mistake and I have to be reminded every day of it when I look at you and it's like it's I get that it's awful but it's terrible it has to it has to be taken out on him and it's like but I feel it from both sides and I think that's great drama and good writing and I'm so invested in
that storyline.
Very well.
And I really like prediction wise, I would love for them to, well, he, I think he respects her and
like cares for her, a John Snow with his stepmom, but I would love it if she could have
the emotional arc to, to not get over it because that's not something you get over,
but at least like view him as a human being.
You know what I mean?
And someone who's part of the family, I would say.
Yeah.
I would say that, you know, with her, she's had enough.
years, I think, to get over it. The thing is, is I like how much support Ned gives to
John Snow. Like, he does say, you are a Stark. I know you don't share my name, but you share
my blood, which was nice to hear. And obviously, all of his half-brothers and sisters love him,
right? And he loves them back. And he shows that love right in front of Kat. But still, you know,
when she looks at him she probably sees the woman that Ned was with exactly and that's that's a tough thing to get over um but i did always find it and probably all always will find it a bit odd um that after all these years and how well he's treated your actual children that you're still that sort of unkind to him it's a bit odd um and i don't dislike cat but it's odd
and I think I've always felt that way
even like 15 years ago like I was like
well the actual F
and
now that you're saying like how do you
both feel now that we've seen the first two
I've obviously seen them 15 years ago
don't remember much
I'm not going to give any theories
because there are some things that obviously
I'm not going to be able
to like forget but it's not
really huge plot points
so I was surprised
at like in this at how much
like I didn't really remember, which is great because it's like a fresh brand new watching.
But I'm definitely also looking forward to going on this journey with you guys.
For sure.
And last thing before we can move on to the final question.
I think even to the writers understand, like even if you hate Kat for the way she is treating John,
you understand why she, like her motivation and why she is acting this way towards him.
Like we can like be in the mindset of where she's coming from, I think.
You know what I mean?
but again I am so damn invested in the show I love the first two episodes so far and I wish we were watching more to be quite honest right now although that ending really made be freaking sad and I'm sure most of you are probably saying quite depressing that's nothing there's going to be a lot more edible deaths like this is nothing I'm sure so yeah we shall see last question from Jaden Rhodes if y'all were in Ned's position would have y'all gone down to kings
landing or would have y'all stayed at winterfell okay so i have been pampered and sheltered and
in comfortable positions my entire life so for me personally i probably would have gone to king's
landings but that's me i'm not i'm not tough you know like oh you're talking about ned i thought it was
johnson that was the question uh sorry my bad um ned if you were ned would you have gone down to
Kings Landing or would you all have stayed at Winterfell? Well, you know, the answer still stands.
I'm, again, I've been pampered and sheltered my whole life and I like comfortable dig.
So I probably, although Kings Landing, I can imagine with the Lannisters doesn't still sound
very comfortable. So maybe I just would have stayed in the comfort. But he didn't really have a
choice. So I understand why he had to go. But I'll just go with, I would have went to Kings Landing.
So it looks like a fun party every night. So, you know, that that sounds good because I'm in a place right now.
life where I could use a fun party and drinking every night anyway. So I'm going to go with
King's Landing. What about you, Tara? Um, so for Ned's position, we can obviously see that King
Robert Barathian is like a brother to him. So when you're talking about a Stark, it's the way that
he, he proves sort of his, his honesty and his loyalty to King Robert. I don't think that Ned would
ever not go no matter how hard cat would probably fight back and say like i i have my my ned here
my king stays here kind of a thing um i don't ever foresee ned saying no even though he does not want to
he is a person of his word and very loyal even in these first two episodes you can see that
that it's he's very much um a brother to robert especially because robert really
wanted to marry his sister they were going to be basically one big old happy family if that had
worked out um so you can you can see why he would i don't know that there would be any other choice but to
go to king's landing yeah of course that yeah no no that is the place he had to go and also he's a man of
the law and his king commanded him to and also to we found out there's this possible sinister plot that
happened to the real or not to the real to the hand of the king so i think also the sense of protection
of protecting the king rather to like he had to see it through even though he wanted to stay
in winterfell so again there's just so many different plot beats and storylines and characters
it's so such an incredible setup in the first two episodes and even to the whole
storyline of just last thing i'm going to say are the entire the storyline that they set up with
I think they said it was Calise's family that are the ones who took out the sister of Ned Stark, right?
I think is what I heard.
So, I mean, that's a fascinating thing in itself because she seems like such a kind-hearted human being.
I could see it from her brother and that's like, you know, that sense of the side of the family.
If they have like that vile narcissistic egotistical view of the world.
So, but from her perspective, like if she commanded an army or was in charge,
I could see more of a, you know, pacifist, more peaceful sense on things.
So I'm hoping that she's one day going to be in command, prediction-wise,
but as opposed to her brother, who's just an awful, awful, awful human.
But, yeah, so again, just so many different moving parts and interesting things that I'm just,
I'm loving the first two episodes and I can't wait to do more.
Yeah, I mean, them establishing in the first two episodes that the Targaryen seemed to be the rightful heir to the throne,
whilst King Barathean is saying he has the rightful he has the right to the throne, right?
So they're obviously, I mean, they're setting it up to like, but how do we actually prove it?
I don't know.
We will get there.
We will.
But this has been a great start.
Good times.
A good start.
Yes, indeed.
I drink and I know things.
You know, you know, we love you guys.
Do all the right stuff.
We'll see you on the next one.
