Tara Erickson & Andrew Gordon react to Game of Thrones Season 2, Episodes 5 (“The Ghost of Harrenhal”) & 6 (“The Old Gods and the New”), continuing HBO’s epic adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire. With kings rising, alliances crumbling, and dark magic reshaping Westeros, these episodes mark a major turning point in the battle for the Iron Throne. Following the shocking death of Renly Baratheon, Catelyn Stark (Michelle Fairley – 24: Live Another Day, The Others) and Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie – Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Wednesday) flee for their lives, forging one of the strongest bonds in the series. In King’s Landing, Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage – The Station Agent, Cyrano) uncovers Cersei’s wildfire secret while Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson) faces the rage of the common people during the unforgettable King’s Landing riot. Meanwhile, Jon Snow (Kit Harington – Eternals, Pompeii) meets Ygritte (Rose Leslie – The Last Witch Hunter, The Good Fight) north of the Wall, sparking one of the show’s most iconic relationships. At Harrenhal, Arya Stark (Maisie Williams – The New Mutants, The Owners) plays a dangerous game of wits with Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance – Dracula Untold, The Golden Child*) while forming a deadly pact with mysterious assassin Jaqen H’ghar (Tom Wlaschiha – Jack Ryan, Stranger Things). Across the Narrow Sea, Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke – House of the Dragon, Me Before You) seeks alliances in Qarth, only to face betrayal, stolen dragons, and the cryptic threats of the warlocks. Iconic and highly searched moments include the King’s Landing riot, Arya’s whispered kill-requests, Renly’s shadow-beast assassination aftermath, Jon and Ygritte’s first banter-heavy encounter, Daenerys’ dragons being taken, and Theon’s brutal takeover of Winterfell, setting the stage for the chaos to come. Let's get into it.
From Mad Love, the scene where Aria is serving Taiwan and Little Finger is so tense.
Do you believe that LF recognized Aria?
And if so, what do you think he'd do with that information?
I think he was very close to recognizing her,
but I don't know if he did.
And if he did, that would be a good reveal.
of course, but I don't think he
was quite there
but again, if it happens,
I think that'll be a later on twist
but he was definitely suspicious.
We could feel the tense and the suspiceness
the suspensefulness
rather of the scene was
palpable throughout
the entire time. I was like, I was on
pins and needles. I had a feeling
like he wasn't going to discover her
in the scene, but still
that was neither here nor
there. I was again just like
my heart was racing the entire scene
because Little
Little Finger is a man of
opportunity and yes, he is in love with
Aria's mother and he would
have used that info to
his benefit. So
I'm hoping
and praying he did not see her and I don't think
he did but he was very close and I think he's
suspicious of what he
did see but I don't think he for sure clocked her.
What about you, Tara?
I'm a little 50-50 on it.
Here's the thing. When he
looked at her little finger is very quick and I don't believe he would utilize that information
quickly he would keep it in and play it as a pawn so I'm just still wondering how is he
going to play that pawn which I assume will be revealed in the next two episodes if he
mentions something about aria to anyone or has to do with like the stark's what we
can trade in especially for for jamie um i don't know man we'll see but i do agree with you madlove
that the that scene was probably one of the most tense scenes in like a minute even though they're all
pretty tense um but the funnest scene i will say was with uh yegrit and john snow that was fun
not very intense but it was getting there holy tum
Molly that was freaking wild and I think she's actually playing it the smart way man because
yeah I mean if you can juice it with him he's not going to kill you and he probably won't drag you
you could probably be like can you just let me go I'll stay here with you like I would manipulate
if I was like captive definitely why not definitely getting close to juicing territory at least
comfortability wise but we'll see we'll see what happens I mean we know for sure that
he's got a moral compass he's very compassionate he's a sympathetic person so i doubt either way whether
they juice it or not he's not going to kill her unless it's in a self-defense position of course
so yeah it's going to be fascinating to see because they definitely have chemistry i think there is a
hint of some sexual tension for sure and possibly she is positioning herself to be in the position
of uh not being in a place of as a prisoner so we shall see what's
happening. They always, you know, the show always does a good job of, I can't wait to see what
happens next. You know what I mean? So I definitely am very fascinated by the possibilities of what
comes next. Yeah. And also, I'm curious about Tyrion's saying to save the green explosive fire water
for him specifically. And now that we have seen an uproar of people,
and they're rebelling.
It's getting dangerous in there.
That I'm like, well, what is actually going to happen?
Because we know that, like, Stannis has Renley's armies,
so he has big numbers.
Rob is now, like, wildly pissed and a bit distracted,
but Catlin got him, like, back on his mark.
And I just, I'm still like, I don't think they're going to march together.
And now I'm legitimately, we thought,
that Kings Landing could be easily taken over.
And now with all that fire, water, green juice,
I think that they could burn everyone to the ground.
The thing is, is that green juice emulates dragon fire.
Because the only other thing that can melt Valerian steel
is Dragonfire.
And that green juice, that they're like,
we've been perfecting it for years.
Which is just, I don't.
know man that's scary that could melt all of them all of the ships yeah maybe even the red lady
could melt her i don't know she's got weird wish juice in her she does so i don't know what's
going to happen there and they've got a lot of it 7,811 to be exact and also terrian did ask him to
stop making it for circe and make it for himself so yeah it's again fascinating to see what happens
there uh sansa went through quite a bit of an ordeal there as well she literally almost had her
life ended right and you know with those uh the the homeless people who were starving and just
have such a hatred for joffrey and anybody associated with him and you feel really uh really
awful for sansa because she's only with you know that happened because by association and she
is just putting up a facade as we all know she hates joffrey's guts yeah and she's just playing
the game but i again i this also speaks really
this speaks volumes again to
the courage and nobility
I think of Tyrion
like looking out for her
and obviously he wasn't the one that came in to save her
but he was asking to
like where Sansa like someone goes save her
and obviously it was a cool and great
awesome moment for The Hound
I thought that was great and we could see like too
we've gotten some moments where he is
in a protective state over Sansa
we saw when she almost pushed
Joffrey's like I think he said like
wipe it off or something
like that. So we've seen like moments. He also covered her up after they tore her clothes.
Yeah. Yeah. So I think he feels like a state of
vulnerability just because he's been in a place of vulnerability himself
towards the way his brother behaved towards it. I mean, just from his base and all that.
So, you know, I think he can resonate a lot with what he is going through.
So I think like his backstory is just so fascinating without even actually
we've talked and heard it. But even like without.
even talking about it, like you can feel a lot of it through his actions.
And I think that's really fascinating storytelling for a character like him.
Yeah.
I also think the biggest thing that's happened is that Theon Greyjoy is very much not on Stark's side at all.
He has overtaken Winterfell.
But the girl who is like, she's literally the one who's saving Bran and Rickin right now.
And she doesn't, they were going to kill her.
Like, thankfully for her brain and being like, I will serve you.
That's how she's kept herself alive.
But very rightly so and smartly is like, yeah, just use the guy.
He'll fall asleep.
And then you can sneak out.
For sure.
Also, we haven't gotten a chance to see her fight.
And she did say, just put a sword back in my hand, sir.
And she said, back.
so obviously we did see her slit the guy's throat that's great but i'm i'm assuming she can do
way more than that and we haven't gotten to see that yet and now i'm like wait does that mean
that brann and ricken and hodor are now going to become wildlings like where the
fa are we going dude because we're already in the north and i mean sure we could go south to where
it's cooler but she's a whiling she's not used to that so it's going to be weird
That was an awesome moment for her saving them.
But you know what?
I also found interesting, the parallels and the contrast.
She tried to kill Brann earlier last season when she was a wildling herself.
And now she can't.
What a full arc and circle for her to now save him.
Right.
I thought that was such a great moment for her character.
So I thought that was so cool.
And yeah, again, just it's going to be crazy to see Brian go from, I guess he was like
interim king, right, of Winterfell and now possibly Wildling, because they're all.
on the run. So, yeah, and I cannot wait until we eventually get to the moment where Rob
confronts Theon Greyjoy, because Theon Grayjoy, when he is in control of a situation,
he's Mr. Big, bad, tough guy. But when he's not in control of a situation, he snivels away
like a little weasel. So I can't wait to see that interaction between, and again, Rob is like a
brother to him, even though, again, he's craving this acceptance from his father and his sister.
So I just, I'm really looking forward to that interaction.
Yeah.
When Rob confronts him, I think that's going to be wild.
Yeah, we'll see.
Hopefully we will definitely get that and be rewarded.
But, yeah, they're only sending the 200 men, and he asked for 500.
So that's a little scary.
So I don't know what's going to happen there.
Let's see.
Jay Rushden
Question
What do you name
What would you name
Your Three Dragons
Smog, Toothless
And I would go with Norbert
Yeah
If you know, you know
Really quick
I would need to
Think on it
I'll go with like
Sprinkles
Rambo
That's a good one
And oh, man, you guys.
I mean, I'm trying to think like, oh, what's a really good film?
And, but me, knowing me, will I know the character's names?
No.
No, I won't.
We'll just name what I name one of my cats, Grinch.
So we'll just go to Grinch Strangles and Rambo.
I like it.
I like it.
Great names.
It took a while.
but I got there.
From Tara.
Thank you, Tara, for being a royal reject
for asking us a question.
We appreciate you so much.
Hi, Tara and Andrew.
Did you recognize Aria's new friend,
Joggen Hagar,
the man who killed for her?
He was Enzo Hopper's Russian Guard
on season 14th.
Yeah, he had this shorter hair.
Yeah, you know, and he had a mustache in that too.
Yeah.
I said I thought he was in,
I didn't.
I said I thought he was in Stranger Things,
Stranger Things, rather, Jessica Jones, season two, or season one, rather.
I thought he was Trish's lover.
Yeah, you're right.
It's like, I know I recognize this guy.
Yeah, we just watched him.
Thank you so much, Tara, for pointing that out.
He's a great actor.
He was very memorable in season four of Stranger Things.
And I remember we were getting some questions in Stranger Things season four.
Like, how do you guys not recognize him from Game of Thrones?
I'm like, well, I haven't seen Game of Thrones.
So I'm not going to recognize someone from a show.
foreseen and you're like I haven't yeah and you haven't watched this show in a very long time so it's understandable you wouldn't recognize so but I again it I think it goes back to what I said in real time during the reaction when you put good out into the world even if it comes from an evil place or something good will come back to you and she saved these three men's lives who are not the kindest people but it is serving her well in this time in her time of need rather because she was about to be half
and discovered by Lord Tywin.
So thank God he was there to save her and stop that guy.
Yeah.
The guard or whatever, or not the guard, rather,
whatever he serves on the council at that fortress.
So, yeah, it's, I think this show just does such a great job
of really exploring all these characters.
Like, even if a character isn't like,
the main character, really explore deep into all these other characters.
And they're all so fascinating, honestly.
I really love spending time with all of them.
Obviously, there's one specific one that I love spending the most time with.
But even when we're away from that character,
I love spending time with all these other ones that it doesn't make me go,
wait, I need more Terry.
And even though in the back of my mind, I'm always like that.
But I'm still happy with what we are getting at the certain time
because they're all really three-dimensional.
They're all well-written, and they all have something fascinating to bring to the table.
And I'm glad that they all get their time to shine in the light,
as you would say, on screen.
and I think it's very well balanced and nuanced at the same time.
Yeah, I would say that my favorite part of these two last episodes
is when Tyrion smacks Joffrey, and he tells him he's like a vile, ugly king.
You know, sadly, it's like when he's shipping off Marcella,
you would assume that Tyrion is like, sure, he wants to hurt Circe,
because Searcy is like a cunt, but it's honestly, it's not that.
He literally just doesn't want his niece to die.
And obviously it's going to hurt Searcy.
But her threat at the end, normally when she makes a threat, you know, we've seen her follow through.
She's very fierce and very savage.
Yep.
So her saying, I hope that you fall very deeply in love with someone so that I can take her away.
Don't say it, Tara.
I just, like, can't imagine right now what is going to happen to Shea.
The fact that we have Littlefinger and then Lord Veris, you know, they're around.
They have ears and eyes everywhere.
I'm scared for her, even though I do believe that Veris and Lord Baylish Littlefinger would have Tyrion's best interest at heart.
still like selfish people
that maybe they would hold back
from telling Circe that.
We'll have to see.
I don't know.
Yeah, no, no. I mean, I hope I'm
mostly wrong on a lot of these predictions,
but I think Shea's a goner, and I hope
I'm totally wrong because I love her character, but
this show has a habit of when you
are obsessed and really
care about these characters, that they
pull the rug from under you and take these
characters away from you. Unfortunately, so
I really hope I'm wrong. I hope
She survives, but Searcy did say that.
The show does follow through on a lot of foreshadowing.
We'll see.
So, yeah, once she discovers it, we'll see what happens.
Because she's going to, it's going to happen.
We know Varus knows about it, so we shall see what happens in regards that.
I think also one last thing I do want to point out here is the sexual tension and chemistry
between Jora and I was about say Calisi.
I know she is the Calisi.
DeNaris is just off the charts.
They are so freaking hot together.
And I know they haven't even kissed yet, but I just can't wait to see it happen because you can tell in so much of the subtext of their interactions.
They want each other so bad and they're just waiting for the other one to say it.
So I am just, I'm dying to see it happen already because they are so, they're so perfect for each other.
He's so protective of her and you can tell how much she has the feels for him too.
And yeah, obviously we've got a storyline here in regards we got to get the dragons back.
I'm assuming from that treacherous woman who was working for her.
I obviously will wait and see who that was,
but I just can't wait to see the two of them get together.
I think they're so perfect for each other.
We'll wait and see what happens.
We shall see.
