Gen V Season 2, Episodes 1 - 3 REACTION:    • GEN V SEASON 2 Episode 1, 2, & 3 REACTION!...   Gen V Season 2 Reaction, Recap, Commentary, Analysis, Breakdown, Ending Explained, Theories, & Spoiler Review! Greg Alba, Coy Jandreau & John Humphrey break down Gen V Season 2, Episode 4—the latest twisty entry in The Boys spinoff set at Godolkin University. Gen V (created by Craig Rosenberg, Evan Goldberg & Eric Kripke) explores the morally murky lives of young supes training under extreme pressure at the university. In this episode, Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair — known for her work in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) returns to campus determined to unravel the secrets behind “Project Odessa,” following Starlight’s request. Meanwhile, Jordan Li (London Thor / Derek Luh) begins to reveal clues about who attacked Cate Dunlap, putting both himself and Cate under dangerous scrutiny. Tension builds as the students confront the darker side of what it means to be a supe under the new dean, Cipher (Hamish Linklater), whose agenda appears to push the boundaries of what Godolkin actually stands for. With emotional confrontations, moral gray zones, and visual moments that highlight both power and vulnerability, Episode 4 sets up more than just action—it teases which students will survive the politics of power and which will be sacrificed. Starting point is 00:00:30 It started with a scream inside a quiet Maryland home, a mother trying to protect the family dog and her son in the grip of a violent hallucinogenic rage. By the time it was over, she was dead, and he claimed LSD made him do it. His name, David Minor the 4th, and we talked to him. More on them very soon.
Starting point is 00:01:14 And without further ado, let's watch The Shoe. All right, team, episode four, season two down of Gen V. at this point in the video at all. Thank you. First of all, leave a like if you could. Subscribe. Hit the notification bell so you're notified when the next gen V comes your way. Big thanks to the team over at Prepper, cutting around them cheeks. And if you happen to be listening to this in podcast format, if you could leave us a rating, we'd very much appreciate it. All right, boys, how are we feeling today? Coy. I you know this whole episode had really interesting back and forth cutting around like carrot versus stick that I thought was really interesting like how some people need to be like big up to other people need to be like put fear into to make them powerful so it was really interesting the theme of the episode is everyone kind of leveling up a power set but how it takes different things for different people like we saw Emma couldn't really believe in herself enough to embiggin but she is able easier to get smaller but even in those moments.
Starting point is 00:02:26 moments like praising her didn't work and then you know with Marie it did need that harshness and then we saw the conversation between Marie and Jordan and how you know that was another version of that like love being something nurturing and necessary so I thought that was really interesting writing to go back and forth and this is the halfway point of the season um episode four to eight so what becomes of this leveling up of power like how Marie uses it uh she does seem to be perhaps the only one that could take on homelander and is that something godalkin wants the the the junior godulkin, which we find out in this episode.
Starting point is 00:02:58 So a lot of reveals, a lot of power scaling, interesting episode. Absolutely. Gee, how you feel? I feel like that was some really intense Gen B. That was really good.
Starting point is 00:03:12 That final 10 minutes, I think is some of the best Gen B they've ever done. It was truly suspenseful. And the entire time, you know, I like a twist where the clue was there, the whole way.
Starting point is 00:03:25 even write in the very name and no one was putting it together. And, yeah, like, there was clues the entire time. And the world building that they're doing, it feels like somehow this will actually factor into the next season of the boys, especially because there seems to be some type of direct target towards Homelander. I can imagine that they don't want Homelander to have this level of power anymore. I imagine everyone fears Homelander. Like, he literally goes after his creators and he could take down anyone.
Starting point is 00:03:52 So they, I think they can also prey on the fact that, Marie desires to actually be good and they can manipulate that in order to take down the tyranny of homelander so I could see like certain you know weeds that are coming out of the ground here that are very strong I'll say that you know like I love the themes I love everything about I love the show generally there's something in the way that has some of it's edited though where I'm noticing in certain scenes right I really feel like the different and maybe it's just my the way I'm witnessing it. I feel like I'm looking at a lot of different takes
Starting point is 00:04:30 being stitched together a lot of the time and I wouldn't really call this a nitpick because there's something I'm feeling where certain scenes I'm like I'm aware that people are acting in this scene because of the way the editing is going down and the way the breaths of the takes are that I'm suddenly seeing like
Starting point is 00:04:49 I don't feel like this is part of the same scene or like the same take that's supposed to be seamless and I'm so there's there's like sections like that where it's specifically like dormitory conversations when it's like actors just talking like I love the writing of that I love the intimacy and I love the um installation of belief but like none of that is present through a lot of that's not present about the remainder of the episode I think that those final moments that were incredibly strong and I'm really loving our new villain um as well but yeah that's just a weird little thing that I was
Starting point is 00:05:24 noticing something seems off about it a bit in the editing. No, there's definitely some of that. Or there'll be reverse shots where I'm like, this person's clearly stopped talking before we cut back to them continuing the sentence that has not stopped being said. Yeah, it's weird
Starting point is 00:05:40 because yeah, it's like less the pace and more just like the actual stitching together of moments. I can, I can... There's a lot of masters and there's a lot of singles and some of them are not blending together well for me and maybe it's because I have editing experience that I'm noticing it. Um, but yeah, it's just a little weird thing, but outside of that, it's damn good television and it's really suspenseful.
Starting point is 00:06:00 Yeah, absolutely. And I mean, you know, for, for the midpoint of a season, it's a very compelling conflict. And I appreciate again that they don't seem to be wasting too much time. And part of what's fun about cipher is the fact that yeah, every time you think you've got a leg up on him, he just comes in and is like, yeah, well, I'm going to embrace this and I'm going to acknowledge it. And then I'm going to throw something else at you to disorient you even further. And, uh, is evil professor. for X. Yeah, exactly. He's super fun to watch as just a performance. And also, yeah, his mystery as to is he powered at all? Or does he have some kind of other sinister power? Why doesn't the V show up in his blood? Can he just maneuver that stuff around? It's all, yeah, pretty interesting. And I like the, you know, continuation. I like the confrontations of this episode, especially with Kate and the others, basically having some version of the conversation of like, how are we ever supposed to work together? I think I'm always just going to be upset at you and hate you to a degree, even if you do finally apologize for this thing or that thing. And I do appreciate in a show like this. I know we're here for like, you know, superhero action and, you know, edgy political commentary and stuff. But I do like that this feels more like a college show convincingly and has at least moments here
Starting point is 00:07:16 or there that speak to that and, you know, are little moments of levity or relief from, you know the sharp edges that adorn every part of this world yeah i mean it's one location but you could feel how it's affecting the outside world yeah yeah absolutely and uh yeah the whole like test thing with marie was interesting and then you had to have that come back at the very end with jordan made for a nice little piece of tension i'm really curious if the next episode explained like a detail um analysis of his powers like cipher obviously is a big reveal and that's so funny because all of us went, ah, but, uh, you know, is it projecting into the mind and also receiving data? Is it manipulation where he controlled, uh, Marie's mind enough that she thought she didn't
Starting point is 00:08:00 see the V? Can he manipulate? Like, I'm really curious what the extent of his power is. And I like that we got an answer, but it didn't completely solve the mystery. Like, we got data, but there's still more to be explored. Well, I think he knows the ultimate, he's the scientist, right? So the ultimate weapon would be a bloodbender. And he must have created some type of immunity, again, against that so that way he cannot be harmed by a blood back but it's like i i wonder if marie can even touch his blood basically he's yeah yeah i think that's a fun thing for a foil for a villain too and like him being there since birth gives us a lot of opportunity for him to think ahead yeah because why would he um empower and help this person level up while revealing his cards if she was capable
Starting point is 00:08:44 of destroying him from within right well then it makes you wonder if we're about to get some kind of additional lore expansion of you know obviously they've tinkered and silenced up compound v maybe there are some other either chemical or technological advances that they've made so that you can shield against this power specifically or that power or any power specifically some kind of yeah you know dune style hollow shield thing there's a lot of emphasis on blood specifically like they were able to create a poison that was airborne that specifically would only attack the blood of soups. So there's some type of life. The whole thing with the science seems about a big control over blood primarily. So what happens when you create the ultimate weapon? And maybe
Starting point is 00:09:26 Cypher is willing to die for the cause. Maybe his ideology is just that much of a conviction that he's willing to give his life in order to strengthen her. And I could also see a CRISPR thing, you know, with the science of somehow he protected himself and inoculated himself from it. And that was like just teased. But I am really curious, like the science element of Marie's powers and how that's going to come to play in the boys after this. And maybe controlling the block and heal her dad his dad oh that's a good call and then we can get some some benevolent leverage going or an ally thing happening yeah because right now it's just like levitate and stuff but what happens when you can really what if you could heal the blood yeah you know oh yeah rejuignation it's time for me to tell you
Starting point is 00:10:08 that if you're still overpaying for wireless it's time to say yes to saying no i've joined this family No contracts, no overages, no hidden fees, no BS. That's why I have finally converted to the thing I kept hearing about. The Mint Mobile. Today's video sponsor. With Mint to get premium wireless starting at just $15 a month. And it runs in the nation's largest 5G network. I kept my same phones, same numbers, same contacts.
Starting point is 00:10:35 And I just started saving money. The service, honestly, they're pretty great. I sometimes travel. I worked long days here. Oftentimes, I shoot content on the go. and I've never felt like I downgraded. If you're like me and you're tired of jaw-dropping wireless bills, maybe it's time to make the switch like I did, like we all have.
Starting point is 00:10:55 So if you're ready to say yes to saying no, make the switch to mintmobile.com slash rejects. That's mintmobile.com slash rejects. Link in the description box and pin comment. Oh, and I should probably say this because we're dealing with the financial stuff. Offer payment of $45 required equivalence of $15 a month. Limit time, new customer offer for first three months only, speed may slow, above 35 gigabyte on unlimited plan taxes and fee extra.
Starting point is 00:11:14 C, MinMobile, for more details. Thanks, Minmobile for finally reeling me in and helping me save. And reverse the effects of age. Yeah, there's a lot that you could do. Yeah, absolutely. And I like the, and the cipher mystery has been fun, partly too, because the name is a good mislead because, you know, that could mean that there's nothing there, or it could mean that he can just jump into who anybody wants.
Starting point is 00:11:34 You know, there's a lot that you can kind of probe at if you wanted to. I love the blood theme so much, honestly. Like, as everything was stemming for the purity of the blood when it comes. to like the Aryan race analogy that they were forming yeah yeah it's really it's a pretty the more the more the it's kind of weird because Marie's been the main character this whole time
Starting point is 00:11:52 and then the more the show goes on the more like oh yeah she is I see more now why she is the main character the seeds of they planted season one are definitely fun to go like yeah of course like the cipher thing in this season but like oh of course that's why yeah it's that yeah it's it's so easy to overlook because you're caught up
Starting point is 00:12:08 in the first season going like this is such an odd interesting kind of unsettling power to behold and then you realize like oh yeah you can't use the word life's blood without blood blood blood is the life's blood of all things that are biological uh yeah and then just you know a lot of fun flourishes of nodding to the linguistics of our times and to the debates of our times did you guys uh either of you feel strongly about the I don't know the little consortium of them Emma and Bushmaster
Starting point is 00:12:43 I love that I talked about Bushmaster the Marvel character that they went with that day about that that was great I like her little like Starlighters contingent that's forming this little like a radicalized group of students that wants to do the right thing I think they're fun
Starting point is 00:12:57 and interesting new characters I love that we're both like suspicious of the brother but want to like him I think that's really fun they're playing at that angle I think the most fascinating thing is how much they're playing with the writing of, you know, propaganda and where that's going to pay off at the end of the season because they, you know, turn the number one into a negative very quickly and they make everyone hate them. And, and they also are able to use the news to manipulate the narrative. And, you know, that's always true. But I think especially right now, that's, that's a really common theme in both realities, ours and this one. So I'm really curious how much, you know, firelight and all of these characters are going to, what's going to happen at the end of the season? to GenV about media manipulation that's going to lead into the boys.
Starting point is 00:13:41 Because I feel like something's coming. Because I feel like, yeah, last time we had a very physical viral lead-in, and this time it could be a, yeah, more ideological or societal lead-in. And I mean, I don't know. I have no idea what to expect from the end of the boys, but part of me is like, are they going to send
Starting point is 00:13:56 Marie in season five of the boys to take on Homeland? Yeah, that's what I'm curious. It's the last season of the boys. Like, I don't like to think so far ahead that I'm not not enjoying GenVie. the cost of the boys i'm just very aware that season five is the end so something big happens here what could it be who knows you guys got any straight thoughts oddly like it's kind of a straightforward episode you know what i mean like compared to i'm wondering what the uh the arcs are of some of them you know it was kind of it's like whatever shows do is season one establishing the
Starting point is 00:14:33 arcs of where you could always, it's easier to see where an arc would go with a character emotionally. And I'm like wondering that for Emma. This is just more of her believing in herself even more. I think by the end of the season she'll be able to control her powers completely. I think she finds herself. Yeah. Yeah. I feel like because I like the lacing that they've done with that because it's easy to pick up.
Starting point is 00:14:54 But, you know, it's like, oh yeah, now it's less about the physical and more if you feel empowered, you get big. If you feel small, you get small. I think they should kill off a main character. I think they might because there's been enough There's been enough times that I've been like, are they going to kill Jordan? Are they going to kill me?
Starting point is 00:15:08 Yeah. Well, it's like part of my, the producer brain in me is going, well, because of what happened with a real life actor, like, oh, yeah, they probably won't kill off one of the main characters due to that,
Starting point is 00:15:21 because they wouldn't want to lose another cast member. But I feel like you would actually disarm the audience more. Yeah. If you did kill off another main character. Show what the stakes really are? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:32 I think it would elevate it in a way that would make this like twice as dispensful. But they don't really have like other characters that would supplement that for interest. Sam wasn't even in this episode. Sam wasn't in it. Yeah, Sam wasn't in it. I don't. I'm full of like recurring people who don't even show up that much anymore.
Starting point is 00:15:51 Well, the other two girls, I like, I like them. I'm not like, I don't feel strongly. The starlighters? Yeah, I don't feel strongly about them. I'm more like, yeah, I like them. You know, I'm not, say I love them, you know. I'm getting endeared to girl with tail, chameleon girl, and, you know, Bushmaster, we pretty much just met. Yeah, I tend to have a hard time adjusting when you take a main character and you're like,
Starting point is 00:16:15 all right, now she's going to be off away from the main cast for a lot of this. Yeah, she's going to do with this whole new set of characters. We're not doing the ensemble thing anymore. Or at least not for this character. Yeah, and she was already kind of off to the side a lot in the first season, you know, when she was like Bonnie with Sam, you know, so I would like her to be more lumped in with the main characters. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:32 We didn't even see the dad of, uh, of, uh, of Andre. Polarity. Yeah. He's just out here teaching his class. Um, but yeah, that finale was really awesome. I had, I, like, Jordan could die here. Yeah, I really thought it could happen. And I was very impressed by that.
Starting point is 00:16:46 Yeah, I was worried for sure. Which is nice. It's nice to believe that that could happen. Midseason, not like a finale moment. Like, I liked that I was invested enough midseason. Like, they could kill somebody. Yeah. That's the benefit of the boys world.
Starting point is 00:16:58 Yeah. I feel like anything can happen. I love that camera moment. Like, I thought that was so fun. just lie. What Hamish Linklater is doing, look at this performance is just a joy. Well, that's cool too because, yeah, like the reveal of his power is very sinister, but it also
Starting point is 00:17:10 like compliments the fact that he just seems to be like incredibly astute all the time. So it's like, it's scary enough when he just presents you with like this crazy line of logic that you're like, damn, you really thought this all the way down the line didn't you? And, uh, and yeah,
Starting point is 00:17:26 the way he always seems so unbothered by like, you know, we live in a world of cameras and like, oh, is this my, my good side you know like he's so great at like not even letting you realize that he's begun sort of a facetious you know roasting of you in a sense uh as he unfurl uh untangles your plan well he knows that even with whatever whatever information they get they can't do anything with it nothing can is strong enough to convict him of anything yeah i'm very curious to see how he behaves when they do finally get some kind of leverage
Starting point is 00:18:02 over. Yeah. That rage in the opening was impressive, man. He's such a good actor. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. He's very fun, but he's also very scary, and that's how we like him. Gang, what are your thoughts? Season 2, episode 4, the boys halfway mark, are you excited?
Starting point is 00:18:18 What are your predictions for the finale? Leave it all in the comments, and we'll catch you next week for episode 5. Be well, people. The tiny community of Peel is situated deep in the woods of northern Wisconsin. It's so small that it's easy to miss
Starting point is 00:18:36 on a map, just scattered homes, gravel roads, and dense, silent forest. It's a place where people choose for the quiet, the isolation in the distance, a place where life moves at a very slow pace and secrets can stay hidden for a long time. On the morning of Sunday, the 8th of March 2015,
Starting point is 00:18:54 the stillness of Peel was interrupted. At the Oneida County Emergency Dispatch Centre, the phone began to ring. Before the operator could answer, the caller hung up. It happened again, and then again. Three calls, all from the same number. Then came a fourth call. And then finally, there was a voice.
Starting point is 00:19:13 It was a little girl. And she grabbed the knife that was on the shelf, and she came after me with it. Listen to this episode on the Ashley Martinson case, as well as over 300 more episodes on Morbidology, available on all podcast platforms.
