This week's video is sponsored by Rocket Money, a personal finance app that I've been using for about a year and a half now before we ever partnered up with them.
After the reaction, I'll tell you why I love them so much and what they are.
On to the video, Reject Nation.
When there's something strange in the neighborhood.
Who are you going to call?
Say the line.
Andrew Flash.
No, dude, you say going.
He says Ghostbusters.
Let's do it again.
There's something strange in the neighborhood.
Who are you going to call?
Ghostbusters.
I said it.
All righty, guys.
Let's get into it.
If you got some thoughts.
All right, guys.
Got thoughts, Greg?
Well, if you're listening to us on Apple and Spotify, we just watched Ghostbusters Frozen Empire.
Okay, some positive.
Let me just try to lean some positives.
We get some positives.
You don't think of a total asshole.
You hate everything.
I loved a lot of the visuals.
You told me halfway through that it's the director of Monster House.
Correct.
And Poultergeist 2015.
Well, let's stick with the former.
the Monster House is a visually stunning movie
amazing camera work and truly like
it's truly like a haunted horror movie
I really I really like that movie a lot
and you could see a lot of that animation director
flourishes here with the camera work
that was one of the things I remember Monster House being like
oh yeah the camera works amazing here and then with a lot of the visual
aesthetics like it's a good looking film and I think
in terms of Ghostbusters it's probably the most
visually striking
but that
does weigh thin
it stays strong
that element stays
strong throughout
and the performances
are actually pretty good
other than Bill Murray
who I still feels like
doesn't really care to be
just phoning
I'm here
let's do this
I'm not really
invested
but I'm so happy to see him
of course
because like Dan Aykroyd
Ernie Hudson
they're characters
they give performances
and they're actual
characters in the film
whereas Bill
Murray's. Oh, you hear the behind the scene stories. And it just, it does seem like, yeah, I just want to, I'll just get my money. Um, but and everyone else, even though the, I was actually hearing a talk about it from the Duffer brothers. They're the guys who created stranger things. Funny enough, they have film Wolf Park. I don't know what that is. Um, both certain things is a hit Netflix show. And they're talking about how a lot of the times when you have too many plot lines and too many characters, you try to give arcs to everyone that actually can undercut. Um, on.
their arcs. I understand that. And watching this movie just kind of made me remind me a lot of what
they were talking about. Absolutely. Because this isn't a TV show what we're watching. We're watching
a two hour, less than two hour movie. Good point. And they're trying to give, they're trying to
give arcs to like everyone. And, and, and then you end up having this like movie with a lot of
plot. And they just like, let's just throw a podcast in here. Let's throw this person. And then by the
end, when they're all there, you're like, half of you guys don't.
need to be in this movie like most of you guys don't need to be here yeah and you're actually
taking it and and and when they the amount of artists I try to give take away substantial
impact for the other ones because like you know we've seen the trajectory of ghostbusters
it was like a fun spooky sci-fi supernatural yes fun spooky spy-fi comedy sci-fi supernatural comedy
and it was like one and two and then part three afterlife takes a little bit more of this
like intimate small town family vibe that goes in a very different tone but that really worked
for a lot of people and then this i think did not ultimately succeed at being the blend of both for
sure it actually felt like a lot of it ended up feeling flat even though i was really trying like
the first hour i was like keep looking at the screen and then i was like yeah you know what
I am not feeling the movie.
At the end of the day, it should be an emotional experience.
Whether you're having fun or you're being scared, you know, or connecting in some way, I guess
I wasn't connecting with the characters of the movie as an experience overall, even though
while I can watch and go, it's pleasant.
It's nowhere near as bad as anyone made it out to be.
But in terms of the sequels, I would say this is the weakest entry.
That's a very good point that you said the.
What are their names? The fluff. The tougher brothers. I'm sorry. I haven't seen the show. So that's like I am. I know everyone's probably shocked. I keep saying I haven't seen that show with you especially. But no, that's a very astute and interesting point that if you try to create arcs for so many different people, so many different characters, it undercuts, you know, what else is going on. I think that was a, you know, not to compare anything, but I think that was a major issue for me personally. I still enjoy the film, but it's a major issue that happened in Spider-Man 3 for
instance, you know, when you're trying to do too much, it just undercuts a lot of what else is
going on. So I agree. Like, for instance, you got Finn Wolfhard, which he's a great actor,
and I enjoyed his performance in the film. But, like, again, what was he doing in the film?
Like, his arc is he wants to drive? Yeah. I mean, in that relationship between him and
Lucky, like, it was very, you know, underdeveloped in the last film. And I wanted to see more of that,
you know, in this film. And I wanted to see the four of them.
as well in this film and didn't get much of that and I was glad that Gary and Callie were and more
included in this film as well but I'm like that was an interesting inclusion to have them be part
of the actual Ghostbusters as well okay fine but I thought there was going to be more focus on those
four especially what happened at the end of the last film and then again podcast I like the
relationship between him and his interactions between him and Ray but it just it didn't amount to
anything you know what I mean and then the whole thing with Phoebe and Melody I totally
understand what they were going for and I and I respect the ambition but at the end of the day for someone and again I know the argument can be she's young and you know she felt lonely and I totally understand that but she's also we saw in the last film she's extremely highly IQ and for what she was doing there that's that was just really dumb and I get it sometimes when we're lonely we make stupid decisions then also too you know at her age I understand but come on it's Phoebe um but uh positives like you I love the visuals
I think we all know I love the references.
You love the references.
Yeah, but that's, and again, the film was, for me, like, taking away my critical side,
I thought it was actually a very fun and entertaining film when you, again, taking away the critical
side of an element of things, I actually had a good time.
Having said that, I had a great time watching the first film and the second film and afterlife,
but there were still critical things I enjoyed about the film as well.
So, you know, taking that into account, you know, there were things about it that I didn't enjoy.
But I appreciate that it was still fun and entertaining, but yeah, I agree with you.
There was just too much going, too many subplots, too many, they were trying to do too many
arcs for other characters like Gary trying to be the step.
I didn't mind them going that, but again, it just amounts to nothing.
I mean, they were trying, again, I love also, too, that they tried to make this more of a horror
film.
Like, you know, that's something that they didn't really, you know, delve too much deep into
in the first and second film.
There were those elements, but they didn't delve too deep into those.
and I appreciate that they were really, like, from the tone of the beginning, I'm like,
this really actually feels kind of scary.
And I appreciate them.
I just wish they would have gone, like, I just, again, it's a very difficult thing.
You know, it's easy for me to just criticize, but balance is very key in that, in that sort of aspect from the drama and the comedy and the horror.
And I just didn't feel they stuck that landing personally.
No, it's like you just, you nailed, you spoke on every genre that this movie is aiming for, drama, comedy, horror.
And I felt like the drama didn't really hit.
And it just kind of slugged along and the comedy was at times funny and that was yeah the horror was probably listed the most response and was very cool to look at but was the movie ever really scary visuals horror wise there was a couple times where like tone and I was like oh shit this feels kind of scary but like holy shit yeah yeah yeah so it.
And that's what I mean.
I'm talking about impact in and of itself because they have all these characters
here and I appreciate the intent of trying to combine the universe of our new characters
and instead of making just cameos of your former ones, actually make them characters
and set it back in New York.
Like there's a lot of intention that I see here.
And I think they just, they're not a television show.
So you don't have the screen time to flesh out.
everyone or make everyone feel like even it's not even like giving them arcs like a lot of times
they're wasted here that's the thing there's so many wasted returning care most of the characters
are returning but jeanine wore a uniform gray sure and she got to hold the weapon at the end
it was cool it was it was it was just a lot of wasted characters and i agree i agree and that
ultimately is the part that kind of weighs down for me being like i had fun watching it the whole time
I was like, this is a fine, really good-looking movie, you know?
And to me, that is a, that is a disappointment because I thought there was a lot of the ingredients there.
And I can't really, it's not like a chaotic mess in the way how, like, Madam Webb is.
It just falls a little flat.
And it's because they do have too many things to focus on.
And nothing really gets enough time to flesh out.
And even the, like, there's not a natural sense of wonder or heart.
And I think that's really important to Ghostbusters.
A lot of people think, like, no, it has to be really funny.
It has to really do this.
Really, it's the heart and the wonder that is the most important ingredient.
And sometimes certain things can just feel a little bit rush.
Like when he becomes the fire star, and again, I understand he's had that.
He's had it within him his whole life.
I get it.
I'm like, damn, he got good at that really damn quick.
And the situation was dire, I get it.
But okay, I just, I'll buy it.
I mean, not fleshed out well enough.
Yeah.
So should I read a couple really quick trivias?
Yeah.
Music was also really good, and, yeah, I like some of the references, too.
I mean, really quick, before I read these, would you be okay if they continued with another one in this series or reboot?
I think they're trying to build up a universe.
I mean, you know, I understand it.
In fact, they have a ghost score production.
Yeah, of course.
But do you want to see a continuation of this series personally?
I think they need to reevaluate what they're doing.
And I don't think you need any of the old guys back.
Okay.
So it sounds like you're open to a redo, but I mean, excuse me, a continuation, but just like, let's get our shit to you.
either please yeah yeah i didn't think they had a good balance of like the old and the new um i feel you
because every time they cut back to another character i was like oh yeah they're in the movie you know
that's how it was every time they cut back oh yeah they're in the film i feel you
reject nation when i heard that this company wanted to partner up with us yet again i was
so enthusiastic about it reason being i had already been using their product for well over a year
by the point we first ever collaborated with them so the fact that we get to have this on
partnership just makes me a happy camper. And that is, of course, for the app Rocket Money. Now,
if you guys don't know what Rocket Money is, don't worry, I got you covered. I'll tell you about them
in just a little bit. But before that, I wanted to share with you guys why I love this app so much.
It's actually a very personal reason. You see, like many of you guys, I too grew up in a home
where money did not come easily, needless to say. The predominant conversation in my family
household was undoubtedly about financial struggle, financial worry. And that does a number on you.
So it certainly seeped into my adulthood when I was trying to learn how to become financially
independent. And to this day, as someone who talks a lot about working as mental health,
who's proudly going to therapy, no matter how much lack we might have in money one day
or how much success we might have in money sometimes, I still have to have this ongoing
conversation about my relationship with money. I'm half Filipinos. My mom's always talking to me
about taxes to this day. I think, though, it does start with how you manage the finances you currently
have. See, before I ever acquired any type of reasonable living money, I heard someone speak about
how you have to learn what to do with a dollar now. Essentially, the talk was about don't wait until
you have like a bunch of money and then start figuring out what to do with it afterwards. Like,
you got a bunch of toys to play with. If you want to acquire more in life, you have to first figure
out what you're going to do with what you currently have. And that's why I love this app. It's applicable
for any financial stage you are at in life. Come to think about it, it would have been very beneficial for me
when I was in a real struggle boat years ago. So in summary, as someone who is constantly having an
ongoing working relationship with how to handle money, Rocket Money has helped make that relationship
a lot healthier in my life. So what are they if you don't know what they are? What they are is a personal
finance app that simplifies managing money by canceling unnecessary subscriptions, lowering your bills,
and crafting a budget that fits your specific lifestyle.
I'm telling you, Reject Nation, there's no greater feeling
than when you look at the following month
and you see that, oh my God, I have saved money.
I've spent less, and progress equals happiness.
The best part is rocket money does a lot of the heavy lifting
by analyzing your spending,
then customizes notifications to stay within your budget goals.
It's not just about saving money.
It's about actively seeing and feeling your financial progress.
my favorite qualities about their service too is when it comes to monthly subscriptions.
We've been blessed to be able to expand the team and hire more people, but with that in mind,
that also comes with a lot more expenses. So as this business has been growing, having to track
exuberant amount more has been just as important. So now I have to track a lot of these
business expenses, then I've got to track my own personal finances. So in general, it's
already been helping out a lot with that. But as you want to make things more efficient, you
often find yourself signing up for a lot of apps for free trials that you quickly forget about.
next thing you know, you're paying a hefty fine for it.
I'm sure, even if you don't have a YouTube channel, there's some way you can relate with that.
You see, because they track your monthly subscriptions, and they make it super easy to cancel the ones you do not use.
A couple of clicks, and you're putting money back into your pocket.
So if you're like me, you found hidden subscriptions or pay for services that you totally forgot about.
Rocket money was a lifesaver in uncovering those and even negotiated some of my bills to about, like I'd say, down by 20%.
So if you want to join me on this journey of consistently taking care of your finance,
Do not want to start later.
The best time is to start right now.
So please do yourself a favor.
Check out Rocket Money and see how much you too can be saving.
That way you can stop wasting money on things you don't use.
Believe me, when it came to my accountant and tax season, that was a really big note.
Visit RocketMoney.com slash Rejects.
They've helped me and I'm confident they'll do the same for you.
That's rocket money.com slash rejects.
Your wallet will thank you.
Because Rocket Money has over 5 million users and has saved a total of
$500 million in canceled subscriptions, saving members up to $740 a year when using all of the
app's features. So a great way to support your lifestyle and a great way to support the channel
is by going and downloading the Rocket Money app yourself. And if it does help you,
please go ahead, draw me a message. I'd love to hear if there's some way by just conveying
this message, it has helped you out too. Thank you, Reject Nation. In the background at the new
facility, the slime blowers used in Ghostbusters 2 can be seen. One of the engineers is spraying
another, perhaps to test the effects of the slime.
We did mention that a couple times, I believe.
When Nadim asks, if anyone has a lighter, Ray replies that he stopped smoking in the 90s.
Well, this may be a burden to their current predicament.
It's a callback to Ray's bad habit where he can be seen smoking throughout Ghostbusters,
the first film, and smoking a cigar and Ghostbusters, too.
Yeah, I remember that.
That's a good call.
When Gary says he picked out a film for the movie night, he holds up a VHS copy of Cannibal Girls,
1973. This was the second feature film directed by Ivan Reitman
who directed the first two Ghostbusters films. He's also listed as
producer on this film, which is dedicated to him. The title Cannibal
Girls can also be seen on a movie theater marquee in both
Ghostbusters 2 and Ghostbusters After Left. That's right.
That's a fun fact. That is a cool one.
I'll do two more. According to McKenna Grace,
according to McKenna Grace, it was somewhat more difficult
at least for her to work with the surviving original
cast compared to Ghostbusters Afterlife
where the original actors came in late
in the film and were only on set
for two weeks to shoot the climax. In this
installment, the original cast were on set for about
90% of the shoot. Grace admitted
that while it was fun working with them and
hearing their stories, she also felt a little intimidated
and worried about screwing up in front of the guys
who started this whole thing 40 years ago.
I don't feel like they're 90% of the movie.
They're on that 90% really?
That's fucking weird. Okay, last one.
Like maybe Dan Aykroyd.
Yeah, I was going to say, yeah, for sure.
Bill Murray has frequently been cited as a reason any kind of sequel to Ghostbusters 2 took so long to make.
The actor's reputation as a loose canon and his desire to distance himself from the franchise for many years
let many fans to believe that movies such as Ghostbusters afterlife and this film would never be made.
However, director Gil Keenan suggests that getting Bill Murray back for this film was quite easy.
Revealing, and I quote, well, you know very well that Bill and I have a history
because we made a movie together in 2007,
a movie that almost cost you your life.
That was the Hall H experience,
and we won't go in too much.
But it opened the door for Bill and I
to have a relationship that has remained dynamic over the years.
We've stayed friends.
We've kept in touch.
When I reached out to him to say
that we're creating a story for Peter Vankman in this film,
he was really enthusiastic.
Yeah, there was a really major story
for Peter Vankman in this film.
You're going to do a polygraph test or whatever
for Nadine's,
character and then you're going to come in at the end he felt like a cameo everyone else like a
character he still felt like a cameo okay um all right good to know though that sounds like some
studio shit happened yeah the fact that he was pitched on that and that is definitely not the movie
okay i think this movie needed to be like two and a half hours um i with everything that was going on
i i agree with you yeah it's the missing plot so yeah i mean overall i don't know i i'm like a
five out of ten i guess i'll just be cool cooler than you i'll go six out of ten okay sure that's fine
it's cool the references you are you are cooler than me now i do it it was a frozen
reference i'm cool you're cool i get it man that's that's that's that's that's hilarious like this
movie yeah like camille nangiani i just don't want to be scary like this movie
How many people get your comedy?
Only Greg gets my socially awkward, dry sense of humor.
I get you.
I get you.
What did you guys think of Ghost Wester's Frozen Empire?
Did you like it, love it, hate it?
Gotta have it.
Coldstones, leave your thoughts down below.
We'll talk you all soon.
Tyler Haig.
Do you remember?
Did you remember when we?
Google chat it
Oh hey
We were young and had no real patrons
Nothing rhymes with innocent
What rhymes with innocent at the man
Innocent in my screen
Innocent
Ralph Innocon
That's a stretch
Innocent rhymes with
Wow this is a real M&M one
Like you really got to cram a bunch of shit
Nothing rhymes with innocent.
That's why it's the most...
Insulin.
Insulin.
Like penitent.
Kind of, yeah.
God damn it.
Tyler, I want to get a life-sized chocolate out of you and eat you.
That would be so fun.
Oh, you would be delicious.
I'm honestly so hungry.
I was like, ooh, it's so delicious.
It's a creamy Tyler egg.
Yeah, yeah.
Dark chocolate outer core and then there's like a big vanilla fill.
How great would that be?
Can you imagine having that as a Christmas present, Tyler?
Pass the cream Tyler's.
One day, I would love to do that for you.
Just a life-sized version of Tyler Hague is this big chocolate that all the children
around the corner can come in and bite into you.
You can invite all the kids and you could personally, you know, find the kids at school
and be like, hey, kids, you want to come to my backyard and take a bite out of me?
Yeah.
Hop in my van will go there now.
Oh, man.
It's going to be such a sweet gesture.
Yeah, man.
Kids are going to love you.
They're going to want to hang out all that time.
Oh, do you could just be like,
just don't tell your parents says you want to surprise them.
Yeah, yeah.
And you're concerned about their diets and their teeth and stuff
and their parents might get mad.
So it's easier not to tell them.
Oh, dude, enticing them with candy,
but you're not telling them it's candy.
Oh, you think it's something sinister,
which you know.
They're in for an actual treat.
Yeah.
There will be no misunderstandings on the matter at all.
Everyone loves free candy.
It's a scientifically proven fact.
And everyone is, like, if that's one way you want to open people up to anything else you have to say,
just tell them that back at your home in a second location, you have free candy for them.
Now, look, I don't have children, but if I have an understanding of what parents want for their kids,
it's to meet some nice strangers once in a while.
Yeah, find a new uncle.
That's you.
You could be that uncle via the chocolate that take a bite out of.
Uncle Tyler.
persistent innocent
that's close
closer than what we've got it's closest so far
and that's progress next month
check back in we'll finally have that rhyme
that
