Starting point is 00:00:00 Amazon presents Laura versus Fruit Flies. Swarming your fruit and terrorizing your kitchen, these little freaks multiply at a rate that would make a rabbit say yo. Chill. But Laura shopped on Amazon and saved on cleaning spray, countertop wipes, and fly traps. Hey, fruit flies, your baby boom ends here. Save the Everyday with Amazon. Welcome aboard via rail.
Starting point is 00:00:32 Please sit and enjoy. Please sit and stretch. Steep. Flip. Or that. And enjoy. Via rail, love the way. One day, you're negotiating with suppliers.
Starting point is 00:00:47 The next, you're installing a shelf in the back room. Running a business means moving in many directions all the time. TD's new small business banking accounts are built for how your business moves. It's how we're making banking, more human. Men. Non-space jam-related anthropomorphic animal athletes of the reject nation. Today, I have a question for you. Are you ready to witness the greatest of all time?
Starting point is 00:01:14 Because we're watching Goat today, guys. I'm super hyped. I have not seen this, but I have happened to love all of Sony's recent entries into animation. There you go. Spider-verse being the main ones and then, you know, the smash hit that is K-pop Demon Hunters. So, you know, with a studio making so much magic, so much gold, you can't go wrong. But before we dive into the magic that is goat, let's check him with how our feeling with my boy, Jonatello. How you doing?
Starting point is 00:01:41 Oh, I like that. I like that. I like that. I'm excited. I don't know anything about this movie other than it's a, you've mentioned Space Jam, but I was like, oh, yeah, it's a sports movie, right? It's a sports movie that also happens to be with animals, specifically a basketball movie. Yeah, so it's Space Jam. So I just found that out right now.
Starting point is 00:02:00 Also, the only thing I know about it, a few of my favorite comedians, Bobby Lee and Andrew Santino, voice people. Oh, really? Were animals on it? So. Oh, you watch Bad Friends? Yes. Oh, my God. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:11 Hell yeah. That'd be fun. So that's it. But otherwise, how about you? How are you feeling? I'm feeling good, man. Yeah, I may have shot another thing related to this by the indication of my shirt. And, yeah, it's been a good day.
Starting point is 00:02:26 It's been a fun day full of laughs and just ready to keep the train going. So without further ado, let's get goaded. Woo! There we go. Finished film. All right. A little quick, a little hour and a half you pooh. You guys, if you're listening to this on Apple and or Spotify, make sure you're going to get
Starting point is 00:02:50 five freaking stars. Also, if you're watching this on YouTube, make sure you like, comment, subscribe, and ring that bell when the game is over so you can get notified when new videos are coming out. Also, if you notice, we've got a reason. reject he's on you can get those over at rejination shop.com in addition to going to our patreon where you can get full length watchalongs of the full goaded experience as well as many other things we watch over at the patreon including exclusives that you can't get over here on youtube from greg and john doing stuff that only the people over there have access to but also
Starting point is 00:03:27 if you are a patron and you go to our shop you get 15% off on all merch available over there, including the shirts we have on and all the other beautiful designs we've created over the years. Oh, your Daredevil one. Oh, yeah, so I have a new Daredevil shirt out. That was co-created. That was helped created through Alex and another artist.
Starting point is 00:03:48 And yeah, go check that out. It's dope. It's awesome. It's Sycoran cheese. And yeah, last but not least, though, we also have questions from our fans, from our patrons that you can have access to and be able to join our reviews at the end once you sign on. So yeah, without further ado, before we get to those questions, let's check in with how our feelings post-goat reaction.
Starting point is 00:04:14 John, how are you feeling, man? Yeah, let's get the obvious out of the way. I was entertained. It was fun. It has some charm to it. But I'm going to be honest, felt kind of rushed, felt like all over the place, felt like our main character will, kind of didn't have a struggle significantly other than maybe some little bit of pressure
Starting point is 00:04:38 or having to act upon pressure might be the weakness. Otherwise, it was like the smooth ride for him, which felt strange. Honestly, it was cool. I'd watch this with my niece or something. You know, like, otherwise, fun little sports movie, tropey as hell.
Starting point is 00:04:58 Nothing, it doesn't make the experience lessened by any means. It's just when you compare it to something like the first space jam that has like so much nostalgia. And obviously an IP of the Looney Tunes, right? Yeah. It has more weight to it. And you get the real legend Michael Jordan in the movie. And then you compare it to other animated movies generally that has a lot of heart. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:22 I was hoping for my heart strings to be pulled a little bit more, but it kind of didn't get there. I was hoping with the mom. And then they just said she got sick, which sucks. Don't get me wrong. It was just, I was like, oh, I thought it would be a heavier hit. Fun sequences, nonetheless, in terms of like the roar ball, different stadiums being like different video game levels, which is a little inventive. But like I said earlier, the one thing that I have to constructively give it is that it's a little tropey and predictable. I think we were calling.
Starting point is 00:05:59 Like, this is where it's going to happen or whatever. Oh, yeah. When things are going to go and when things are going to go in, like, okay, what's going to be the thing to tear them apart? Yes, yes, yes, yes. But otherwise, yeah, it was, it was, I will give it. It was entertaining. I had some fun to it. My biggest, like, my biggest praise for it, and this is just personally, and you probably know, I've mentioned this already.
Starting point is 00:06:21 Bobby Lee and Andrew Santito being voicing the commentators. I just, I would laugh because I could see their humor kind of going back and for hating each other if you watch the bad friends podcast um otherwise yeah it was charming how about you how did you feel about everything um you know it was it was interesting because i remember seeing the trailer uh for this movie and i guess kind of feeling a little um underwhelmed by good uh good uh word yeah the the concept of the film because i feel like the trailer kind of gave what the conceit was, you know, being like this literal goat who's the underdog and then has to rise to the top because he is, you know, underestimated by the world around him. And I feel like
Starting point is 00:07:08 within that premise, there can be something that is interesting to be mined out of that. But I think with making a concept like this more interesting, you have to be willing to give your character flaws. Yes. And I felt as though he was largely a perfect character. Right. And I didn't really feel a sense of kinship or struggle
Starting point is 00:07:32 to the character because I feel like the movie didn't want to invest in how he can change over the course of time. And I think of other movies like a K-pop demon hunters with Rumi and like overcoming her insecurities or Miles and him kind of you know not wanting
Starting point is 00:07:51 step up to the plate and I feel like granted that's not the type of story this is but I feel like you need some sort of internal hook to really endear you to your character and I think the only one that really had an arc of a substantial size was probably jet going from
Starting point is 00:08:07 you know this person who's letting their insecurities drive them with fear of being like a washed up athlete or and feeling irrelevant you know and you know that's a very real thing that happens in the sports world and people who have entered careers from a very young age
Starting point is 00:08:24 and wanting to push harder to defy the insecurities and belief the world's kind of projects onto them and, you know, doing very selfish things in response to that. And yeah, overall, I feel like the other members are really just about believing themselves for the most part. Like with the ostrich, you know, she had a lot of self-doubt because she was on social media too much and then with the giraffe character who wanted to be a rapper,
Starting point is 00:08:54 but was very kind of coy about the fact that he did that at all. Right. So, yeah, and I'll say on that front, I felt like it left me feeling like a stronger sense of desire. Like I wanted to feel more invested. I wanted to feel more, yeah, more endeared overall to, you know, are underdogs here. That said,
Starting point is 00:09:23 I thought the animation was beautiful. Yes. I felt like this was a happy marriage between the styles of something like a mutant mayhem with the Ninja Turtles movie and something like a spiderverse and the way that they were able to
Starting point is 00:09:37 construct these shots that felt very dimensional, for lack of a better term. No, yeah, definitely. And the way they play with depth of feel, that was very fun. And I felt like, yeah, the movie was very colorful and yeah I respected on a visual level like if you turn the
Starting point is 00:09:53 sound off as a very pretty movie to look at yes so yeah I thought that was really cool um not a lot some of the humor work for me not a lot of it kind of felt like an example of an animated kids film versus a family film yeah it felt like more of a kids film with like little jokes for for adults rather than
Starting point is 00:10:11 a movie the entire family can enjoy yeah that's true um but yeah underwhelming is something I'd agree with uh I didn't even think about that adjective and I was like, that's perfect, because I was expecting a lot because visually it gives you a lot, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's almost promising that way.
Starting point is 00:10:24 And then the trailers and whatnot, and obviously the Sony logo hooked you in with the, you know, the legacy of what Sony has become in recent years with the Spider-Verse films, with Mitchell's versus the Machines, with a K-pop demon hunters. So you are expecting a certain level of heart and storytelling that's married to these visuals. But for me, it just didn't reach that level. And, you know, that's okay. we have a ton of animated films that we've watched for the channel and a ton of animated films to come up from Sony. So I just, I don't think this is a bad film or just, you know, left me, left me wanting a little more. Absolutely. That is a okay. Hopefully you guys enjoyed it and had a good time with it and let us know what your favorite things about this film are. I think, yeah, there's probably maybe some things we didn't pick up on or maybe some details portwise that we didn't really take full account of because maybe that's just not.
Starting point is 00:11:17 a world we inhabit with a lot of our personal time but yeah without further ado let's jump into the fan questions yeah it all right um bubba bum
Starting point is 00:11:27 yeah okay we're going to start with ADHD overlord to me the style of this movie was easily a 9.5 out of 10 the design of the cities the stadium the furniture
Starting point is 00:11:41 and the fashion are all just are just that or Yeah. Our just. Our just, yeah. With that said, which city would you live in? Oh.
Starting point is 00:11:53 Which stadium do you want to visit more? And which team would you support? I think in terms of lived in, I don't know, because we didn't really spend a lot of time with the other ones. It was just the stadium, right? Yeah, we didn't spend a lot of time in the world itself. Yeah. It was just like his small little neighborhood. But I thought the design of his neighborhood was very cool.
Starting point is 00:12:14 That's probably going to be the easy answer. In terms of the stadium, I would want to visit. I think the cold one where it's like a block of ice, I think that looked coolest. Maybe because I like the color blue. That's my reasoning. It's really shallow. But the last level, I keep calling it a level.
Starting point is 00:12:38 The last stadium where Maine, our main villain, plays, I guess that was a cool. visually but i would imagine it's really hot how about you how you have any you know i like feeling safe when i play sports so i already have knee issues so i'd probably pick the the jungle one with like the vines and stuff
Starting point is 00:12:57 even that you know my trip and bust an ankle so you know so i feel like out of the options available um i would probably pick that one because yeah it seems like it's least likely to kill me fair uh so yeah which one would you want to pick
Starting point is 00:13:12 ADHD overlord let us know in the comments There you go. All right, Rudy Rogers. Hi, John and Aaron. Hope you guys enjoyed the film. I thought it was a real visual treat. As to me.
Starting point is 00:13:28 Sony Animation, having been a whole lot of success, they recently become possibly my favorite studio. Cool. Of its hits, which one has been y'all's favorite so far or over the years? Examples. Kva Demon Hunter, Spider-Ver's Mers, much as well as the Machine, or even the older classics like Clyde with the Chants Meatballs.
Starting point is 00:13:49 Much love and appreciate everyone. There we go. You want to take this one? First. Do you know what yours is? I know what mine is. I think so. It's Spider-verse.
Starting point is 00:14:02 Same. There we go. Spider-Verse. Yeah, that is the best thing they have put out. Hands down, both movies, and I cannot wait for the third one. We got freaking, as a time of recording this, like a year and,
Starting point is 00:14:14 and a half a little over a year before the the third one finally comes out so yes uh i am waiting with with bated breath until absolutely i could confirm that this is possibly one of the best trilogies right of all time yeah that's what i i mean yes the third one being beyond right that's the name of it beyond the sped ever again if it uh you know it um sticks to landing yeah i would have the argument of like the best trilogy one of the best trilogies oh 100 percent But I have to give some credit to Mitchells versus the machines. That's a good one. I haven't seen it in a long time, but I remember it being very good.
Starting point is 00:14:51 Yeah, I remember it being like, what is this? And like it's a Netflix release. And it just flew under the radar, but was this like underdog of a story, ironically, in terms of how well it was. And I remember it was an emotional family story. Yeah. I'll give it credit, but Spiderverse for sure. I have to shout out K-pop Demonhunters. I saw the movie here with Roxy, but Spider-Verse, it's kind of.
Starting point is 00:15:14 a dead given you know yeah you know what i think would have i don't know if it would have paid to the family friendly crowd of the movie but i wish they didn't kill the mom off screen that blow if she's a character in the movie and she just like dies before the third act or something right right that's a good point oh yeah i think i feel like you just needed more stakes overall i agree but um yeah let's you know it's not what the the person asked but i think it'd be fun to like rank them so i probably yeah oh okay i probably go across the Spiderverse
Starting point is 00:15:45 as top as it right now right below that I'm going into the Spiderverse below that I'm going K-pop Demon Hunters
Starting point is 00:15:52 below that rituals versus machines it's been a minute since I've seen it but cloudy with a chance of meatballs
Starting point is 00:15:58 right and then go on this show oh my gosh I don't know I have the same ranking but I would switch one and two
Starting point is 00:16:10 because I think oh really you like into more than across I think across is I enjoyed it a lot. Significant.
Starting point is 00:16:16 It's half a story. Right. It's like that Empire Strikes Back kind of like, I mean, that's not a good argument because Empire is one of the best Star Wars. If not best, I should make an addendum. It's a complete, it's a complete arc, but half a story. Yes. Yeah. The cliffhanger doesn't really help it.
Starting point is 00:16:33 However, like, watching into the Spiderverse again recently, I was like, damn, this is really good as an origin movie. Oh, it's great. It has an argument that's switched back forward based on, you know, my feelings or like on the but I would agree with your list. Well, I haven't seen Cloudy with a chance with me. But you put K-pop over Mitchell v. Machines
Starting point is 00:16:54 Oh, yeah, I forgot you did that. Because you're giving it high praise just a second ago. I have to watch Mitchells versus the machines again. Because I saw K-pop recently. I don't want it to be a recency bias.
Starting point is 00:17:09 Oh, my gosh. Aaron. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. Oh. He's on the spot. It's okay.
Starting point is 00:17:17 Well, how about this? We'll go on to some other questions. Let's do it. Give you some time to cook on it. Sounds good. Okay. Pierre the Reject. Who are some of your favorite basketball players growing up that you idolized?
Starting point is 00:17:30 Pierre the Reject, I'm going to keep it a stack. I'm going to keep it a bean with you. I've not grow up watching basketball all that much. There you go. Mine would be some very basic-ass answers. Go ahead. You know. No shame.
Starting point is 00:17:41 Love, love. obviously love Kobe. There you go. He's great. One of the goats. Absolutely. You know, we love Michael Jordan around here. We love Shaq. There we go.
Starting point is 00:17:52 Yeah. These are very. It's pretty cool. Popular names. Yeah. Steph Curry. There we go. Obviously.
Starting point is 00:18:01 Yoming. Meta World Peace. Okay. Hey, that's kind of, that's more in baseball. No pun intended. What's is? Dwight Howard? Yeah, Dwight Howard.
Starting point is 00:18:20 He's got some great shoulders. Gabriel Union's husband, right? No. That is Dwayne Wade. Dwayne Wade, him too. Him too. Yes. What about you, man?
Starting point is 00:18:32 Like, I mean, because I grew up around my family watching basketball. I was never a basketball player nor a big NBA fan. However, I have a significant. love, like an extreme love for Michael Jordan, like specifically, right? His, did you watch Air? I was just supposed to ask you that. You did. I saw it in theater.
Starting point is 00:18:53 It was great. Oh, beautiful movie. I love Air. I'm a, hold on. Let's see if I can do this. I'm rocking Jordans right now. Yay. And I got a few Jordans, but not a sneaker head.
Starting point is 00:19:05 You're going to say something? No. Okay. But yeah, Michael Jordan. He also has this, it's crazy because he arguably is the goat. Uh, um, no, yeah, I mean, that obviously was appropriate, but, um, he had this one campaign. I forgot what shoe it was for, but he had, uh, among the, the campaign for 12s or 13s of his shoe, he had this, uh, like the motivational seven strings of a champion, uh, advertisement campaign.
Starting point is 00:19:42 and one of the quotes, I almost live by now, and it's kind of like competitive. Yeah. You owe it to your opponent to fight to the finish. You owe it to yourself to finish every fight. And these quotes are like, damn, those are freaking dope. That's a bar.
Starting point is 00:19:57 Yeah, so anyways, long story short, Michael Jordan, for sure. Yeah, of course, I love Kobe and obviously being in Los Angeles. Angelino that he means a lot. But again, I don't watch a lot of his games. My family is a Laker fan. for Laker fans. But his unfortunate passing kind of did strike a chord.
Starting point is 00:20:17 Yeah, he was huge before he passed. And obviously, I love just, you know, enhanced, or his passing was enhanced that internationally. Yeah, Michael, for me. You were saying during the reaction that one of the things Jet was saying was actual Michael Jordan story. Yes. Can you say what that was?
Starting point is 00:20:34 Absolutely. Okay, so Michael Jordan had a, it's known as the sick game. and so there was a documentary in 2020 called The Last Dance and basically it was the documentation of Jordan and the Chicago Bulls rise to prominence, right? And it covered the 93 to 96th, three pete, but also Michael Jordan's history. And among the 93 to 96 championship, there was something called the Sick Game,
Starting point is 00:21:01 where Michael was sick, but still scored significantly. and won the game when he was under the weather. And the legend has it where it was like, I don't know what, but there were some weird synchronicities where the night before, someone had delivered food to his hotel room. And he had this weird gut feeling like,
Starting point is 00:21:28 I think because the opposing team wants us to lose really badly because we're on this hot streak, I have this weird feeling it was tampered with. The food was tampered. And he still ate it, and got sick and still won the game. And like there's this very famous photograph of he hugging Scotty Pippen, his teammate, because he was so sick. But still amazing high score.
Starting point is 00:21:54 And so in the movie, Jet kind of refers to that as she has her own kind of story like that. And like, hey, rumor has it. The delivery had a maga, mag. my mind. Not that. Magma. Maga! Trump, poison, jet.
Starting point is 00:22:13 You heard it here first. Fake news. That came out. That was a Florida. What's it called? Something slip. Anyways. Freudian.
Starting point is 00:22:24 Freudian slip. Yeah. So basically, it seems as if this, whoever wrote the script or the dialogue kind of, it was like Easter egg reference that, that sick game. so yeah there you go yeah cool beans yeah thanks for sharing that story absolutely yeah all right on to the next question cody annos i hope i say your name right uh what other
Starting point is 00:22:47 sports would you guys like to see animated with this crazy interpretations of the fields like goat with different environments good question that's a really good question ooh dodgeball oh that's a freaking dope answer oh my gosh i would love i would love another dodge ball movie and I would love to see it animated to the most ridiculous degrees. Absolutely. Are you, correct me if I'm wrong, sorry, I just don't want, you have history in football, no? I did play football in high school, yeah. Cool.
Starting point is 00:23:18 Would you watch football in football? Or is it that too? Like, yeah, I watch a football movie. I feel like, I have a ton of them, right? There's a lot of football movies, so, you know, a lot of these sports movies have, like, a similar formula to them. Doesn't mean, you know, they don't work to different degrees. I watched another sports movie
Starting point is 00:23:34 fairly recently with Roxy that I really, really loved. Oh, nice. Okay. And yeah, you guys will find out what that is when it comes out. I don't know, so I'll tell you off camera. But, um, yeah, I feel like Dodgeball is just unconventional
Starting point is 00:23:46 as a sports concept. We've only seen one movie made of that. Yes. In animated form, that'd be dope. Um, this is so weird. I, I guess this would be a martial arts movie, but martial arts. And it'd be, I mean, and then different like,
Starting point is 00:24:01 that counts. Different, different, like, different, I think that that would look like a moral combat movie or a street fighter movie, right? Or like a Capcom versus Marvel movie. However, like, I guess that's very tropey. The dodge ball thing, that is like smart because there's only one dodge ball movie. Yeah. So and there's a ton of like martial arts movies.
Starting point is 00:24:20 There's a ton of football movies we've said. So my answer is cheap. No, it's so valid answer. It's so great. Yeah, yeah. Cool. Let us know what you guys want to see other sports movies. You want a lacrosse movie?
Starting point is 00:24:30 You want a golf movie? Lickson. It's all weird. Bowling! Bowling would be fun as well. Sure. Yeah. For a second,
Starting point is 00:24:37 a torrential or different environmental bowling movie. Yeah. Cool beans. All right. And before we get to our last question, have you thought of your list?
Starting point is 00:24:46 Oh, you suck. I think I would have to put K-pop over Mitchells just because of recency bias. Wow, Mitchell fans. He said he hates you. No! Oh, no!
Starting point is 00:24:58 I'm just about to read it. Jesus, Oh my God. No. Yeah. I mean, I got to watch Mitchells again. I remember tearing up for Mitchells, though. K-pop, I don't remember.
Starting point is 00:25:11 I remember being like, whoa, this is really smart and inventive. But Mitchells, I actually got, like, emotionally moved. What's higher, though, Cloud of the Chance of Meatball's a goat? I don't, I didn't see Cloud of the East. So I don't know. I don't know. So Go above Cloudy with a chance to go. I didn't say that.
Starting point is 00:25:32 Isn't it? Dan Levy? Did he direct it? I don't know. Oh, then. I don't know. Who knows? Maybe we'll watch it one day on the channel. I'm down.
Starting point is 00:25:40 Hey, Cloudy. I haven't seen this. I don't really remember. So let us know if you guys want to do that. Let's do it. I'll be super down. All right. So without further ado, let's get to our last question by the one and only, Jay
Starting point is 00:25:50 Rushton. Jay Rushton with a question to ask, what animal would you be in goat? And the most NBA players are rabbits due to offspring. Oh my God. Oh my God. You went there. You did. Oh my gosh. Jay Rustin. I see what you did there. I did another reaction recently. Ironically, with Roxy 2. It hasn't come out yet. So you'll see what that is. But it deals with like what animal would you embody? So it kind of applies. I thought about it. So this is kind of a a cheat answer but i think i just think i think this animal is cool it has nothing to do with how it represents me by any means yeah a wolf okay i think that'd be cool i dig it yeah how be you i'll be a spider monkey oh hell yeah yeah i want to be wiry and and agile and be able to there you
Starting point is 00:26:49 go through any environment and still people's food out the street not really not that last part but all the other stuff i said nice cool well all right you guys let us know what your favorite sports movie is. Let us know what animal you would want to be, what type of style you'd want a sports movie to be in, and all the other things we talked about here today. Yeah. You know what? Stay golden. You're the greatest of all time, and keep shining.
Starting point is 00:27:15 We'll see in the next one. Doses. Have you ever wondered why songs on the radio are popular? Why does certain movies get made, even though the premise seems completely random? Why are concert tickets costing you $3,000? But nobody
Starting point is 00:27:34 makes any money touring. Well, on my podcast, breaking down the biz, we answer all those questions and more. I'm Seth Schackner.
