Roxy Striar & Tara Erickson dive into one of the most infamous sequels in the Halloween franchise with Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989), directed by Dominique Othenin-Girard. Picking up directly after the shocking events of Halloween 4, the film continues the story of young Jamie Lloyd, played by Danielle Harris (Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead, Hatchet II), who is haunted by visions of her murderous uncle. Still traumatized and rendered mute after stabbing her foster mother, Jamie once again becomes a target of the unstoppable Michael Myers. Donald Pleasence (The Great Escape, THX 1138) returns as the obsessed Dr. Sam Loomis, determined to end Michael’s reign of terror once and for all. Ellie Cornell (House of the Dead) reprises her role as Rachel Carruthers, Jamie’s foster sister, while Beau Starr (Goodfellas, Due South) is back as Sheriff Ben Meeker, leading the fight to protect Haddonfield. Wendy Kaplan plays Rachel’s friend Tina Williams, who quickly becomes another central figure in Michael’s path of destruction. This sequel is remembered for its brutal kills, its atmospheric Gothic tone, the infamous “Man in Black” subplot that set up future installments, and Michael Myers’ relentless pursuit of Jamie through the chilling finale at the Myers house. Though divisive among fans, Halloween 5 remains a cult classic for its suspenseful chases, shocking deaths, and eerie portrayal of Michael as an unstoppable evil force. Join us as we break down the kills, analyze the performances, and discuss how this entry shaped the future of the Halloween franchise! Thank you to Liquid Ivy for sponsoring this video.
More on them in just a bit.
Okay, Tara, it is horror Thursday.
And on this horror Thursday, are you ready to be a horror with me?
All right, been on that note.
Count to sit.
Three, two, one.
I click.
All right, Citizens Reject Nation,
Thank you for watching Halloween 5, the Revenge of Michael Myers,
with us. If you are on Apple or Spotify, don't forget
that 5 star if you're on YouTube with thumbs up.
Thank you to Prepper for helping edit us down.
We appreciate you, especially for these horror franchises.
It can be very difficult.
So you guys had your work cut out for you.
We are going to start today with some Patreon questions.
If you guys want to ask us questions,
join our Patreon. You get to ask questions to us.
We kind of use these across
the board for our reviews now
because you guys ask such great questions. We love
answering them, so we're going to jump right into it. Here we go.
Jaden Rhodes.
Jaden says Halloween 5. I got two questions.
questions. The first, is there, is there are few bits. The first is there are a few bits that I have
seen others compared to Looney Tunes or Three Stooges, mainly Michael going down the river and the two
cops coming out of the house. I'm curious if y'all feel the same. Let's stop at that one.
I did not connect that, but I did, we did call it out that it did feel comedic to us,
the cops coming out of the house. Yes, the cops did feel comedic.
little stooge's like.
Yeah.
But him going to the river
didn't feel funny to me at all.
No, I thought
that it was creepy as hell
the way he got in
and just was like float.
I was like, ugh.
Like I was, yeah,
I was freaked out by it.
Yeah, I'm with you.
The second question from Jaden
is also Dr. Loomis
seems to go full crazy mode
during scenes in this movie.
I'm curious if y'all like
those scenes because the majority of people
I've seen don't like
this version of the character.
it was definitely jarring man yeah like i i thought it was a weird choice because we've seen his character
but i understand why he would be going a little crazy but it didn't feel true to the character that
we know so far so it felt like either a weird actor choice or a weird direction choice or but
it's hard to kind of tell with these things what happened yeah i agree because um i didn't like the
choices i thought that it was a little out of the realm of what dr lumis would be doing and how he's
been betrayed before I my assumption is the director was like now you got it you got to like yell at her
because you're pissed you've got so far shaker you need to yeah you got to catch michael um so i wonder if
if the actor kind of thought back about it or thought that that was odd because it is very different
for dr. limous i didn't didn't love it but i didn't hate it mark leach i enjoy this film for what it is
but the messy behind the scenes is very noticeable.
The original idea was for Jamie to also now become a serial killer.
But the idea was scrapped.
Which version would you prefer the scrapped idea of the one they went with?
What do you think is going on with the man in black?
So I agree that I think after four they decided she was going to be a serial killer
because we saw her standing there.
Yeah.
And this one, there was that kind of connection.
But I didn't find this to be super messy.
I just felt like they were like, oh, we want a future of this franchise
and making a kid a serial killer might not work super well here.
Right.
So I get why they went with this version.
It would have been cool to see the other version, though.
How do you feel about that first part of the question?
I mean, I would have loved to see the craft idea.
That's what I was the most excited by because I thought that ending made the last movie.
And I was really excited to see where it would go.
Like, do we have her and Michael?
Is Michael now, like, training her?
Like, I don't know.
right right do they team up do they team up like how interesting is that to see that you know the kid
and i'm like oh it runs in the blood it was exciting i'm sad they didn't go with it but that's all right
the man in black i need an explanation in the next movie because i want to know why why are you
saving michael what is what's the deal here and most importantly where'd you get your boots
because they're cute yeah i love i i don't know what's going on with him and i don't i wonder if i'll ever see him
again. It seems to me though that you and I kind of liked this more than a lot of people.
It seems from the comments and the question so far that maybe this isn't a popular one,
but I did really enjoy this. I liked it. I thought it was scarier than the last one.
Yeah, me too. Michael Medina Carthorias. Chejacks, love y'all. The Jamie Lloyd character here.
The Jamie Lloyd character here and the Tommy Jarvis character from Friday 13th, Tommy.
Series of a lot of similarities. Both characters appear in four, five, and six of the franchise.
and they were about the same age
that is
what's his name
who's the singer with the angels
right
sing oh
yes
it is I think so
okay um
you know what I'm talking about
yeah
you're talking about the name
like the Tommy thing
the actor who plays him
is the guy who now is a singer with the angels
right it is
What the hell is his name?
I'm not going to know that.
Oh, no, no, you do, you do, you do.
I do.
Yeah, we've talked about it a million times.
What the hell is his name?
I know his name?
Yeah, yeah.
I mean, I've said it 80 times on this show.
He's very, very famous.
He was also on Gremlins and a million other things.
And he's a singer and he is very controversial figure because he has all these angels that he
sleeps with.
Yeah.
You don't know?
I don't know his name.
No.
I'll have to look it up.
I'm blanking on it right now.
That's crazy.
I know his name like the back of my hand.
So that is, I've interviewed him multiple times.
Anyway, both characters appeared in four, five, and six of the franchises are about the same age.
In the first appearance, they both became institutionalized and developed homicidal tendencies.
What do you think of this killer related, connected to a child trope and a horror?
I think it adds fear or tension because you don't want to see the hurt, the child hurt.
Yeah, I mean, I would definitely agree with that.
you are a little bit more on the edge of your seat because you're like,
is this franchise actually going to start killing some kids?
I don't know that I would put it past them to, like, not.
Like Billy in this one I thought was screwed.
Yes, me too.
I thought he was definitely dead.
So, yeah, I totally agree with you.
It definitely adds tension.
And I love that you connected,
the Jamie Lloyd and the Tommy Jarvis character,
that the both characters appeared in 4, 5, and 6 of the franchise.
And I'm like, oh, they were at same age.
Okay.
So that's not who I was thinking of at all.
Tommy Jarvis is this guy.
I was thinking of Corey Feldman.
Oh, yeah, Corey Feldman.
You do know his name.
No, but now that you just told me, I envision his picture in my brain.
The little kid.
Yeah.
So maybe, but this is who Corey Feldman grew up to be.
So I think that they're saying that characters are in them, even though the actor is different.
Of course, because he grew up.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I can't believe I can't just come up with Corey Feldman.
Yeah.
I can't believe you've never heard that me before.
Yeah.
Yeah.
With the angels, you know what?
Okay.
Yeah, we're on, we're back.
We're back.
We're back.
I agree with you.
I think that it does make, I think that it's actually kind of a good trope because
it does throw all the rules out the window because it's like, so are we like just willing to kill kids?
Yeah.
Yeah, but also have kids be killers.
Right.
Crazy.
It's scary.
Yeah.
All right.
Rejugation, we'd be coming off summer.
I'm still going to be working out five to six times a week,
filming constantly and trying to stay dialed in with my energy.
But honestly, you know, fall hits,
and suddenly everything feels a little bit harder to keep up with.
Still, I want to take my health seriously.
I've dropped nearly 50 pounds this year and dropped down from over 20% body fat to now 8%.
And a big part of that has been finding smarter ways to help fuel up.
That's why I still use and was already using before we ever partner with that.

Kebby, how well do you think the movie
maintains Michael Meyer's sense of menace and did any moment surprise you or add new layers
to the familiar suspense? I think that we, as we said earlier, this one was scarier to us.
Yeah. So I think that it had his menace maintained very well. And when was that surprised me,
yeah, when the girl's boyfriend wasn't actually Michael Myers, it was him trying to sleep with her
in the hay. Yep. That was a good, that was a great, like, switch out where I, we definitely thought
it was him and it wasn't.
So they subverted our expectations in that moment,
which I really appreciated.
The trivia coming from Kebby is this movie
had a bit of a bumpy ride during production.
We got to look into that.
It was supposed to pick up right after four,
but the script wasn't ready when the filming started.
That meant a lot of last minute changes.
That's probably why all the ADR dude.
It's so dumb.
Which led to some confusing plot holes and continuity mistakes.
That's probably why the man in black
and also the foster parent situation.
Right.
I'm curious about.
The crew had to move fast to keep the story on track.
Still, the movie gave us memorable moments like Evil Clown Mask scene.
What was the Evil Clown Mask scene?
Oh, where she was in the car with her boyfriend.
Oh, yep, yep, yep.
Yeah, that was gross.
Which, despite everything, became a favorite amongst fans.
I am shocked.
It's not that there weren't holes in this because there were, but I just really, I did enjoy this movie.
Yeah, me too.
Evil Clown, I'm assuming you mean the guy in the car, the spits or whatever.
even though he wasn't spitz.
Was that a clown mask?
It was a creepy.
See, that's what I'm saying.
It was a gnarly mask
and I'm really trying to think of my brain.
Was there a different evil clown that I'm missing?
I think that's what you're talking about in the car
and that was a creepy-ass mask.
I didn't realize that this,
I mean, you guys did that the production was such a mess.
I think it's ridiculous that you would start filming
before the script is done.
And that means like the script isn't even done,
which means you haven't even gotten a first, second, third pass.
You're literally already shooting.
It's going to go to shit.
Yeah, the more I'm thinking about also, like the guy in the boots, the man in black,
the fact that we have nothing with that, the fact that we didn't get Jamie Lee Curtis,
the fact that we, the, what was the other thing that I just?
Oh, the foster thing was like the foster thing.
Yep.
Loomis was aggressive.
Yeah, yeah, that was weird.
Brian Reed, how does Halloween 5 expand?
on the mythology Michael Myers compared to the earlier films.
Do you think that the introduction of the Mysterious Man of Black helped or hurt the series?
We have to see where we go from here, right?
Yeah.
If he's never mentioned again, it hurts it.
If he is a big part of the future, then it helps it.
I agree.
If he's just put in here and we don't see him in the next film with a good writing explanation
as to why he's the man who's been following around Michael Myers and saves him, breaks him out of jail,
I'm going to want, it's going to hurt the series if that is just, that just makes five a total disaster.
This was still better, though, than the worst Friday the 13th and worst swamp things.
I'm with you.
Swamp boy.
What's it called?
Nightmare on Elm Street.
Yeah.
And Friday of 13.
This was better than the worst of those.
I agree.
I agree.
I didn't even dislike, I like this.
It was scary.
Yeah.
Right?
We thought that the vibe was scary
And I like that
But I will say that if we don't get to see
The Man in Black come back
That's crazy
That's wild wild, yeah
Jay Rushden
What is your take of Michael
Trying to pass on the curse here?
Is that what you,
is that universally what we decided
He was trying to do
Is pass on the curse?
I mean, well, that's what we originally thought
When she touched his hand.
Right, but when he finally
just tries to kill her
I felt like he wasn't trying to pass
like hers anymore he's just trying to kill her yeah so I I didn't I didn't yeah I didn't get that I didn't
I didn't get that I we thought it like oh she touched his hand but not because he wanted to pass it
but because she touched his hand got the juice the murder juice center I didn't get that he's
trying to pass it on but that's me I'm getting the sense that these is one of those this is one
of those movies that the more we break it down the worse it gets totally you know what I mean
totally like the more we keep asking questions yeah they're like
pass it on like what
because it's like wait but then he did try to kill her and like
why'd she get into the coffin
coffin and like uh yeah
like why'd she get in there
where'd barely go
we don't know
and how I actually don't want to think about this movie anymore
because I liked it and I can't think about it anymore
because I liked it I know and actually
maybe we should never think about it
it again
you know we can't we
we need to not break it down because we're going to find
too many plot holes like you guys have already
told us exists so yeah everything you guys are saying i'm like yeah that is true yeah right and we
we were just sort of in it for the ride because i like michael we were glad that michael was back
and i like this little girl her acting chops were like she is phenomenal phenomenal like literally
but she's you dude you guys like it's crazy like in the beginning i was just like staring at her
being like she's so good and you're like and you went dr lumas is being weird and i was like
yeah he is because i wasn't even yeah yeah i wasn't even focused
on him. I was just focused on her because she's just
she's so good and she's so young
like I'm choosing to focus on
the positives today. So are you. Let's see
what happens with Halloween 6. Is that even what
it's called? Are we going to get
Jamie Lee Curtis back in this franchise? I know
when does she come back? Really
strange. Thank you guys for going on this journey with us. Tara,
any final thoughts on this? No, I'm
down. I liked it. We had fun.
I don't mean to rush through the review by
any means. I just legitimately don't think
we should break this down anymore and we should remain
in our bliss. I agree.
Our Halloween bliss.
Yeah.
We like this movie.
Is it flawed?
Yes.
Good music look good.
Yeah.
Whatever.
Halloween.
It's a vibe.
See you for six.
Later, Rejects.
