Starting point is 00:00:00 There is the cold habitual And it is the cold of the cold at his summit Cozlight
Starting point is 00:00:08 T'envee a front of celebrate in a fashion responsible you have to have the age
Starting point is 00:00:11 legal for consuming alcohol This video is brought to you by Hewle and Liquid IV
Starting point is 00:00:17 more on them in just a bit We love the first one I'm hoping we love the second one Shall we find out
Starting point is 00:00:27 Let's freaking go well how do you feel between this one and you know what I actually feel like this was like an absolutely like one of the greatest movies ever yeah like in terms of um this script was so cool and yeah and beautiful and I almost like you and I had the same we had opposite ends of the same reaction with all the mom stuff where I just felt like frozen yeah um not, not, um, frozen like, like I felt nothing for, no, I know what you mean. That's, yeah. Like, you can't help but think, like, what would I ask? What would I, like, like, just kind of like, just very introspective in that moment. Yeah. Um, and, you know, I teared up at first and then it just like hit me like a wave. Yeah. Um, and I just think that they, what they did to get to that moment and how original it is that we start with Ryan waking up in the time loop, but we go to her.
Starting point is 00:01:28 I just thought that that was brilliant how we got to her. And like you said, every time she was getting frustrated, we're feeling frustrated. And I just think that that was brilliant. Yeah. I think that this script didn't know what it had. So it tried to do some things to like punch things up and be like, here, we're being funny. Especially in the latter part of it. Right.
Starting point is 00:01:48 Exactly. Not in the first half, probably not even in the first two thirds. But some lines and some moments where I was like, ooh, but this movie is beautiful. Yeah. It's a beautiful horror. Like, and I know that it's, it describes itself as a horror comedy, but I didn't, some of those, like, you, I love, um, when there's comedies and, and just in general movies, some people are funny and this tried to make everyone funny. Yeah. And it was like, but not every character would be funny and not every character would be doing, but I'm, right.
Starting point is 00:02:19 It got a little bit, like some of the dialogue, just some small moments where you're just like, wait, why that? The thing that bugged me the most is the I want a divorce. because you didn't need to kill that character that character is not relevant to us not funny let them be a power couple or whatever like that was kind of weird and there was a couple of the lines that we pointed out just like yeah
Starting point is 00:02:37 but that doesn't that doesn't detract from the fact that this definitely not still like hands down great incredible but I think that that's what's making this one a little tied with the first one for me is that the first one didn't really have those moments I feel like the first one trusted itself a little bit more right this one had gold and I think that it thought
Starting point is 00:02:57 it was silver and needed to elevate to gold. Yeah. It already was gold. It already was. I agree with that. That's true. So, yeah, it's kind of like, it's interesting because I kind of could watch like 10 more of these.
Starting point is 00:03:08 Yeah. But I don't know that there's any more story to tell. We closed it out with the mom. She got that. And it really is so beautiful, Tara. Like, I'm sure you and I, I'm sure you're having similar thoughts. You don't want a life that's not meant for you. Right.
Starting point is 00:03:23 That's not your own. It's not yours. It's not your life. Because I mean, I think that the biggest really nice moment that they added in here in order for us as an audience to eventually get there with her is when she's looking at her phone and she's like, I don't remember any of this. These aren't my memories. And that helps us get to where if we have to let mom go, it's not going to be that bad, even though it's still really tough. But it's like it's not really her mom, even though it is. And as Carter says, like, you already did that, though. You already had to let her go. Exactly. You've already lived that.
Starting point is 00:04:01 And living through that pain has made you who you are as a person, hands down. Yeah. So I'm glad that we did focus on that. I wish they leaned a little less into her going back for him. Yeah. Because when she's like there's only one reason I'm going back. Yeah. That line kind of bothered me too because that's not the point.
Starting point is 00:04:19 It's not that you're going back for a boy. Agreed. And not that there's anything wrong with love. I'm a lover, a love, ship her, ship her ship. Yeah. I love love. but you're not going back for a boy you're going back because it's your life and this is not and that's not your mom because it's not your memories right and so I think that the point is like
Starting point is 00:04:37 that's an added perk that you get to be with them but you could be with them kind of anywhere the the reason you're going back is because you're trusting that you're living the life that you are supposed to live yeah and when we talk about like things being a little more cosmic that's the part that is the part you're trusting in your life and that even when bad things have happened to you. That's why you are who you are. You are who you are because of the things that happened to you and how you deal with them. So I wish that she didn't say, I'm only going back for one reason. Yeah. That's not the truth. And then I wish that there wasn't that part where when she's talking to her mom and she's just like if you had to choose between because she's really not choosing
Starting point is 00:05:14 between her mom and Carter. She's choosing between her life and someone else's. Yeah. And her alternate version, which is like she can still feel in it, which is why when we, you know, at the table and she's speaking to her mom, it still gets to us heartwise. But at the end of the day, those little pieces that they throw in there for us of like, these are not my memories. What do you mean cinnamon rolls at where? I don't remember any of this stuff with this woman, which really at that point, we can just call her this woman that looks like my mom, but like I don't.
Starting point is 00:05:47 And has similar personality. Right. And can still give me good advice, which is lovely. Yes. And I go, great. ask her about the guy, like let her give you the guy advice that you never got because she died earlier, right? Three years, yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:00 So that's a beautiful input there. But the rest of it is like, that's kind of all you needed. And I agree with you that like you're not just going back for him. For one reason, the guy. Yeah. So it's like if that was, if 10% of this was changed and maybe that conversation with her mom is like, you know, I'm having a really hard time right now. And it was less about the guy, but more about like a trust.
Starting point is 00:06:24 to make a scenario where you're trying to say, like, I feel like I'm living somebody else's life and I want to, I don't know what to do. You know, I think that that conversation is a little bit stronger and more meaningful and powerful. Because as somebody who has lost a parent, I know I keep saying it, but just in case that you guys don't know. Right. I think all the time about the questions that I have for her. And I got to say, almost none of them include boy stuff. Right. And I'm not saying they wouldn't, but like, even when I was in my most serious, relationship it's not what I yearn for my mom to be here for it's the everyday things or like you know so it was that moment when the mom when her mom says I've never told anybody
Starting point is 00:07:04 this but I was scared shitless those are the moments yeah for you don't it's not and of course boy advice yes it could be part of the conversation sure I wish I wish it wasn't her main focus of getting it out so I feel like if there have been 5% or 10% tweaks to this this maybe would have been a top 10 favorite movie of all time for me like yeah because of the every all of the pieces of the recipe were there, but because of some of those things that I just wish were a little different as an individual viewer.
Starting point is 00:07:32 Like maybe this works better for some other people who didn't, haven't dreamed their whole life of what they could ask their mom. Right. But I, for me, that knocked this from an A plus to an A. Yeah. Like, just like a little.
Starting point is 00:07:44 A little tick because it's, I do agree that it would have made it. She's a really strong personality. We see her going. in the first movie from being kind of a B-I-T-C-H, she changes throughout, becomes a bit better of a person. And then in this movie, she's still like that person fighting to get to that life with him, Carter, also getting her mom back. But I think in that conversation and asking her mom, what would you choose between, like,
Starting point is 00:08:16 daddy and someone else that you really loved? And I'm like, yeah, but you're not, you're not really having to do that. I think that she's a stronger character, the way she's written. Exactly. I think she's stronger than that. Exactly. She wouldn't go, mom, what would you choose? She would already know in that moment, I feel like having a smirk on her face, I know what I want to ask my mom.
Starting point is 00:08:41 And it's not going to be what should, what would she choose? It's I'm now going to utilize this information because my memory goes with me for the life that I actually like have that has my memories in it. right so i agree with you and that i just think um that took away a little bit from her strength even if it was something more simple like if you're ever not here one day what is it that you want me what was your favorite moment of ours from growing up or what is something you need me to know about what's going to help me get through the day what's the memory right just anything that it just it made it it it diminished it to me for it to be so heavy about the boy yeah even though I do love love but like the boy's still here you could be with
Starting point is 00:09:30 the boy here yeah you know and exactly and there's more to life than just than just that and I get that they're doing the true love thing of course and I love that and we love that but I use she's also young as hell she's like 19 and I'm agreed yeah yeah like you could be him could not yeah I I totally agree with you where I'm like I get where the movie's headed I get where their brains at this movie has a lot of heart totally yeah it's an amazing movie it's so good the writing is so great when it did get comedic in that scene where she's french and with the guy i'm like that's great they i feel like they wrote that somewhere else and pluffed it in and they're like we gotta have it yeah like i told you at the time i'm like this is not for the rest of the movie and i don't care it's
Starting point is 00:10:13 it's fine because that really did did make us both laugh it was funny which i'm like that actress too i want to look up a couple things yeah yeah because um Because this is a different director-writer? Well, it said this one was written and directed by Christopher Landon. But that's different than the last time or no? I don't remember. Okay, let me look. But she was great, and I love that they brought all the same, most of the same characters.
Starting point is 00:10:40 There's a couple new ones in here. The first one was, so Happy Death Day was in 2017, directed by Christopher Landon, but written by Scott Labdell. Reject Nation, if you haven't heard, I'm going to tell you about a little thing that's been part of my routine these past couple months. Tried neck to spill. Hewle, H-U-E-L. God, that is tasty. Well, I've been using Hewell Update, you guys. On January 25th, I weigh 218 pounds.
Starting point is 00:11:09 As of the day of filming this, I'm down to 188. That's 30 pounds lighter, six-pack Greg in coming. And easily, a necessity. One of the biggest things that I've been doing is making smarter, easier. food choices. Like Hewles Black Edition ready to drink a meal? I've got a ton of these. As a reminder, before I ever partner with them, they sent me bottles to try. I was very, very clear that I would not want to do a partnership unless I actually liked the drink. And by like, I mean taste. I wasn't even into the weight loss thing yet. Yeah, turns out I did. I was hooked. Because it's not just convenient.
Starting point is 00:11:42 It actually tastes good. Like legit milkshake good. Not looks nice on the label, but tastes like Chalk. No, it's good, good. So here's why it works for me. It's a complete meal in a bottle. Packed with 35 grams of protein, slow release carbs, 27 essential vitamins and minerals. You're not just filling up, your fueling up, as we like to say. No prep, no cooking, just grab it, drink it, and you're good to rock. And that's for flavors. I mean, they've got chocolate, vanilla, iced coffee, strawberry banana. If you can't decide, variety box is a great way to go. Fuel makes eating well simple. It takes the pressure off, especially if you're trying to stay consistent. the best part it's affordable each bottle costs less than five bucks if you're finally ready to try it out or if you already take huell and now you want to help support the channel on a little extra bit you can go to huel dot com and use our code rejects for 15% off your first order plus a free gift that's huel dot com code rejects you could also go to huel dot com slash rejects i did that today so whether you're getting in shape or trying to eat smarter huel makes it easy to stay on track thank you hugh for sponsoring this video all right reject nation quick personal update
Starting point is 00:12:47 On January 25th, that was 218 pounds. As of today, I'm down to 188. That's 30 pounds lost. Six-pack Greg is coming in. And while there's been a lot of factors, one of the biggest keys has been keeping my energy up, especially while having to up my cardio. And to help out with that,
Starting point is 00:13:02 I've been drinking a little thing called liquid ivy every single day. Already a consumer before we ever partner with them. Lucky guy, what can I say? I like to take their sugar-free hydration formula. And honestly, I do feel a difference. I just, I'm so appreciate that it actually tastes really good too. And truth to be told, whether I'm coming off a workout or even having a rest day, I still take it. I just feel better whenever I take it.
Starting point is 00:13:25 And here's why it works. One stick. And 16 ounces hydrates better than water alone. Thanks to their specific LIV hydroscience formula. Something I have definitely committed to memory what that exactly all entails. John, just knowing it actually really gets the job done and is healthy. But I do remember that it delivers three times the electrolytes and the leading sports drinks. It's also backed with essential vitamins.
Starting point is 00:13:45 B12 and vitamin C, which are huge for recovery, energy, and staying sharp. And the flavors, as you just saw, raspberry lemonade, is my go-to. Actually, I have a variety pack from the lime. Pretty good, too. Oh, Tangerine. Tangerine is also pretty solid. They're pretty good no matter which one you get. Liquid IV has become a non-negotiable part of my routine.
Starting point is 00:14:03 So if you're doing cardio, strength training, or cutting calories, or wish to feel better throughout your day, hydration really is one of the easiest, most overlooked wins. Some of this weird guy in his mid-30s who really appreciates the value of being hydrate. So if you'd like to support your body and, in turn, support the channel, you can head to liquidiv.com and use code rejects for 20% off your first order. That's 20% off when you use code rejects at liquid iv.com. If you've been thinking about it, this is your sign. Give it a try. It help me stay on track.
Starting point is 00:14:35 It still helps me stay on track. And I believe it'll help you too. Thank you, Liquid Ivy. Oh. So it had a different writer. this one was in 2019 so two years later um and i believe you said that it was written and directed both by christopher yeah i'm waiting for it to load but i remember seeing that yeah which is great which means he went it that he's like i have a story took off let's make it make sense yeah and that's really
Starting point is 00:15:03 cool um and based on characters by scott which makes sense uh he did such a good job with this i'm curious what else this director has done because I would love to watch his other work. He did, okay, paranormal activity. He wrote, oh, I told you freaky. We went over this last time. Yeah, we did. Freaky's so good. That's right.
Starting point is 00:15:22 We forgot. He's really interesting, really, really cool. Let's look up a little bit of trivia on this and see if we can find some fun stuff. All right. For the scenes inside the university hospital, the sets had to be rebuilt from scratch for this film, as the actual hospital used in the first. first film had been gutted oh tough that sucks that really sucks that's got a huge production cost that that that would be like when you got an idea for the new movie and then you're like we don't have
Starting point is 00:15:50 the hospital as the location you're like maybe we don't do it I think maybe you'd have to say everybody moved to hospitals that one had a fire and uh overnight and um totally like that sucks Christopher Landon announced plans for third film as soon as production wrap wow Oh, awesome. Have we gotten that third film yet? I don't think so. I don't know. Like in the first film where Carter announces the story bearing similarities to the plot of Groundhog Day,
Starting point is 00:16:17 he establishes the similarities with the sequel's plot to Back the Future 2. There are small nods to the film like the wood chipper from Biff's tree removal and a clock tower scene. I was thinking about it. Oh, yeah. True. Okay. Tree's shirt says FML on it, but in certain photos promoting the film, this was changed to OMG. Love that.
Starting point is 00:16:38 Let me go to some spoiler ones. Spoiler ones, Jessica Roth, who is Tree, said her favorite death in the movie was falling out of the plane in a bikini without a parachute landing in front of Carter and Danielle. This death was not part of the original film and was added during the reshoots. Oh, that's so fun.
Starting point is 00:16:54 I love that they added that. That's a great one. Really good one. The reveal at the end of Gregory Butler as the baby face killer and an alternate reality is a nod to one of the original endings in the first film where he had teamed up with Lori to kill
Starting point is 00:17:07 tree, including Stephanie Butler in The Killing, is a reference to the first film's alternate ending that was removed after negative test screenings. Oh, interesting. Okay. Okay. All right. In alternate universe, the band T-shirt borrowed from Carter says, dumps to funk concert was in New Orleans and the original universe, the first film that took
Starting point is 00:17:32 place in Austin, Texas. Okay. These are such funny little. details. This has a lot of likes on it, but it's a little lengthy, but here we go. Ryan calls the device he invented Sisyphus. He and his friends call it Sissy for short. Sisyphus is the character
Starting point is 00:17:47 in Greek mythology like tree, Sisyphus escaped death's clutches. And as his punishment in the afterlife, he was forced to roll, boulder up a hill every day for eternity, only to have it roll back from him down the hill before he could get to the top. The story of Sisyphus
Starting point is 00:18:03 is superficially like that of tree, who must relive the same day again and again, only to see something finally go wrong each time before she can get to the time loop, out of the time loop. But obviously, unlike Sisyphus, she manages to finish her task and get freed. Yeah. I love that. That's cool. Yeah. That's really cool. While Ryan undergoes a time loop like tree, the only other character that receives more than one death is Lori, subsequently murdered by Babyface three times. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. That's kind of cool. Yeah. The body count in this is 19. Tree dies eight times. Lori three times. Tumes twice. Tumes guard twice. Ryan Carter, Gregory, Stephanie
Starting point is 00:18:42 once each time. Ryan is the only one who dies temporarily before the day reset itself in the first dimension. Stephanie is the only one who did not die in the first film. Oh. Okay. Yeah. Okay. I want a divorce. I'm curious that guy who I was like, I definitely know him and I watch him on a show right now. Oh, yeah. I was like, I don't know who that is. Samar. What do I watch you on? Oh, he was in Life of Pie. Um, and he played Pie, but, oh, he's the, damn it. I can't believe I didn't pull this, dude. He's one of the lead guys on how I met your father, which is the reboot of how I met your mother that I watched. He is so good on the show. Oh, okay. Um, it has, it hasn't been on. He, it hasn't been on in like, I don't know. Maybe that's been two years that I have seen it. So, why, but he's really good on it. Oh, wow. Okay. I love it. Yeah. he's really really good working that's awesome excited for him yeah everybody in here um seems to have gotten work after this which is awesome yeah which is great because they did all did a great job yeah especially um jessica roth she seemed i don't want me and especially everybody did a great job but she just had a lot of heavy lifting to do and yeah i mean she knocked it out of the park
Starting point is 00:19:53 absolutely i agree with that so oh we wanted to see if there's a third one oh yeah so okay so because i don't know if it's out yet yeah or it might be it definitely might be and we're just totally unaware Let's see, Happy Death Day 3. I'm just going to Google it. Is Happy Death Day 3 coming out? Despite rumors swirling that Happy Death Day 3 is being developed by Blumhouse, director Christopher Landon says the sequel isn't happening.
Starting point is 00:20:19 Oh, why not? But I'm going to be told us it was. Dang. This one might, can you look up if it made money, budget? Budget. I feel like it had to, right? Let's see. Like, I'm going to look at box office yet.
Starting point is 00:20:34 Okay. So it grossed 28 mil in the United States and 64 mil worldwide and had a budget of 9 mil. Oh, so it did, it made it, it made it. I mean, you know you're supposed to triple, but basically it got, yeah, we're good. Way more than triple. Yeah. I mean, you, for just U.S. singularly, but it still does. But yeah, domestically doing 28, but worldwide doing 64.
Starting point is 00:21:00 It's pretty good. That's why I'm like, I thought maybe, um, budget. They thought, no, we can't do a third because it doesn't make sense. But I mean, the way that it ended. Those numbers make sense. The way the movie ended, it definitely did set up for possibilities for a third of them working on this or whatever. But do we want to watch the girl that we don't like in both movies?
Starting point is 00:21:19 We're waking up every day. Right. No, we don't. I mean, I guess we could. It could be funny. They're French things. I don't know. They shot this in 2019, though.
Starting point is 00:21:29 We're six years out. These are, this is a young cast. They're going to look different. Way different. I feel like we're like past the point and it's like yeah Christopher Land didn't write and direct something different I mean and he is which is great and you got to do freaky I watch on his channel and it's so good because I haven't seen it so good any final thoughts for the peeps no I loved it this is a lot of fun thanks Christopher for the movie and the good times it's I loved it as always let us know oh no I've seen it it's fine it's for core it's always let us know what the she ejection was Watch next. It's a whole thing. We'll see you next time.
Starting point is 00:22:07 Later, Rejects. Ethan Chadwick. My friend, you're going to be getting yourself a very specific shout out for being brand new here. E stands for equitable. I feel like this is going to be a mutually beneficial relationship. T stands for telekinetic because you can move. things with your mind h stands for horn dog do i need to say more yeah that's what makes it equitable a stands for anvil which you are as hard as and stands for no means yes oh
Starting point is 00:22:50 which is Ethan Chadwick definitely stands for behave chadwick replace the w with the d and hey chatic then you sound shattery anyway you think i hope this is a worthwhile shoutout you did it man this is a great way to celebrate this is your inaugural like you should have a death day to you about yeah you're going to repeat this shout out and relive it over and over again love to hear it thanks Ethan.
