Spider-Man. This July...
Starting point is 00:01:06 We're faced with a threat. That can be anyone. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker. I'm just a neighbor. Friendly neighbor. But he hasn't forgotten them. Sometimes Spider-Man has to do the hard thing. That's my responsibility.
Starting point is 00:01:20 Talk to Banner? I didn't know you could get that big. Spider-Man, brand-new day. In theaters, July 31st. Thank you to Huell for sponsoring this video. More on them and just a bit. Young lovers and queer kids Reject Nation, we are back.
Starting point is 00:01:39 It is time to cap off our heartstopper experience with the motion picture event of the summer on Netflix. Puckie, let's watch the movie and see which one of us was right. All right, gee, they lied to us. The movie did end. It was not forever. But I'm feeling quite catharsed here in this world. moment this is very lovely this is very sweet how are you feeling we've just recently finished
Starting point is 00:02:10 season three after a small gap and now we are we're we've we've climbed heart stopper mountain i think it was it was a really good in a day and age where series finalities are usually terrible or not terrible but disappointing is you probably the word for it no one's been quite nailing it lately yeah yeah definitely and the show is not a phenomenon over here in the States or like worldwide, where a lot of these other bigger shows have been, it surprisingly ended pretty strong. I'm going to say quite strong, yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:46 I think there's sacrifices that were made, particularly with the ensemble that definitely doesn't get to be truly experienced. Like the town and all stuff I like is like a little short film, but you know if you had a season of television, like how all the other seasons have been, you get time to spend with the supporting characters. And here, you know, a lot of them get shortcuted now quite a bit, you know? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:11 And a lot of them don't really get like specific. They're really here for like appearances. Yeah. And so like that's the part that sucks with doing a movie. But for a film that was focused solely on the main crux of the journey, which is Charlie and Nick, it's pretty strong. It was pretty good. The show was 30 times 8, 240. Yep.
Starting point is 00:03:32 So what is how many minutes is that? 60 times four, like four hours. So yeah, it's like a season of hard stoppers, like roughly four hours, close to. A couple of movies worth. Yeah. So if you cut out the supporting cast, you get pretty much where you would probably get in a season's worth of Nick and Charlie in a movie. So I see the reasoning of how they would do it. To me, I thought it was actually pretty strong, pretty great.
Starting point is 00:03:57 Once they broke up, I was like, oh, so they will be together forever. yeah you've started to play the map yeah but I was really happy with it I thought they like I like the focus I like the flipperoo's how did you feel yeah I would agree I mean I feel like yeah for what this is in both contexts just as the end point of a series
Starting point is 00:04:18 and as a format shift this went over really well for me I mean like it definitely yeah it's one of those things where like it hit all the feels that it was trying to hit I feel like and it still managed to carry over the stuff that I've appreciated so much about Heartstopper up till now. Like, it's still very alive and very, you know, there are things that are very lovely and cozy and pleasant and there are also things that are
Starting point is 00:04:39 very real and nuanced and hard, you know, and that certainly resonate with real life experience. Like, I can't really, like, I feel like you've kind of summed it up here. It would be nice for the journey that we've had to get an in-depth send-off on everybody. However, I think for what the, I'm curious as to why it ended up as just a movie rather than a series. I can imagine multiple situations. Like whether they chose this, I guess is what I'm curious about. But yeah, I feel like even without that stuff, like it would be nice to get that stuff, but I'm not upset not having it.
Starting point is 00:05:14 I would have, you know, I would, I like these, all of the ensemble. So it would have been nice to get a little bit more of that. But for what this was, I was caught up in it the whole time. And I'm a little sad that we don't get. I mean, it's a two-hour movie or close to. So I'm a little sad that we actually didn't get some. specifics. I feel like Tara and Darcy go furthest to the background and then Tau and L like I liked how they managed to work it in here but I think that's the biggest one where I'm like damn you know
Starting point is 00:05:44 like I would have liked to have seen some because there is a bit of that sort of like time jumpishness in this especially with like a Tau and L that's incorporated and I'm like you know there's been we've joked about this earlier on it's a less of a gap for us jumping in but even still I'm like in the timeline, you know, we're going to the next year of courses and stuff like that. So it's not like in context, big time jump. So that like format wise kind of stands out as like different. Yeah. Yeah. It's like I don't have like a lot of complaints about what is here. You know, it's more just. I'm there. I get what you're saying. What is there is good though. What is here is great. And yeah, it's like if we could have had even more awesome. And it's an interesting place to be in because you're like leave them wanting more.
Starting point is 00:06:28 good. This is one of the stronger finalies of a thing I've seen in a minute. And yeah, it's not quite perfect due to that. But pound for pound, this is one of the most successful finalees I've seen in a minute. When they took a movie structure, the movie's very much structured
Starting point is 00:06:44 like a movie versus what kind of feels like what happens with these words like let's take episodes of television and crammed them into a movie outline, which for all I know is what they did and I have no idea, but it doesn't feel that way. It It feels like they told a very specific story that would be told over a movie.
Starting point is 00:07:02 And because it's like even though they do what they do in Hard Stopper, which they span a whole like semester, they still managed to do something that didn't feel like I was just watching. And maybe you guys feel differently. I didn't feel like I was solely watching just an extended episode. No. Or that like, okay, this is where episode one ends. And then now it's episode two here. You know, I didn't get that impression. I really felt like they actually made a pretty good movie out of it.
Starting point is 00:07:25 And they like shot it differently. It's like the vibe and atmosphere also. doesn't feel like a movie. I mean, like a TV show, because, like, the show element of season one through three has a little bit more of, like, slice of life hangout vibe to it. Yeah. And that's one thing. It's like, with this movie, I think they were, like, having the break up and everything
Starting point is 00:07:44 they needed, like, the stakes to feel a little bit more consequential and shit like that. But, you know, I like the way it was shot and like the way everything was. But that was good. Yeah. That was really good. I feel like the story focus on flipping the narrative to Nick and Charlie. of how Nick and Charlie unfold and how it's more about Charlie trying to learn how to be supportive to Nick this time was a was interesting because his is a lot more abstract and not as like clear cut you know and how to solve this guy's identity crisis problem you know it's like it's such an unknown terrain for him so I whereas like there's there's easier like pinpoints that might be harder to overcome for what Charlie was going through being the first openly gay guy being. bullied eating disorder like there are things you can easily pinpoint versus with nick it's like i don't
Starting point is 00:08:34 really know what's wrong with me yeah i'm suffering from a formlessness yeah so i really did enjoy that and i thought their performances were very very strong terrific and the way that it ends on a note of yeah there's more for the future and you feel like they'll probably be together forever was a nice sentiment i thought it was really sweet rejignation summer is here and that means routine gets obliterated we got travel We got barbecue. Late nights, long workdays, looking up at 1 p.m. realizing I've only been running on snacks and vibes. But something like H-U-E-L.
Starting point is 00:09:09 H-U-L. H-E-L. H-L. is what I love at a time like this. Their black-o-dition powder said it many times, it's freaking true. I used Huell quite often during my cut last year. And to this day, I still have it several times a week. My move is mixing their powder and a variety of flavors with my non-dairy yogurt that I love so much. So it turns into this, like, legit pudding situation. or sometimes blending it with an at-home, I saw you both. I'm so L.A.
Starting point is 00:09:33 The ready-to-drinks are great as well. Like, that's what I was mainly using last year. But, like, this year, Coy, he's been drinking Hewle constantly while getting wedding ready. If you guys follow him on Instagram, you can see a lot of his progress. And you know throughout this year he's been drinking Heul, he would drink it on camera evidence.
Starting point is 00:09:50 So, guys, the Hewled Black Edition is a complete meal. 40 grams of protein, eight grams of fiber. You've got to get your fiber, people. 27 essential vitamins and minerals. gluten-free, no artificial sweeteners or colors vegan-friendly. Under $5 per meal. And if you're using the powder, it only takes like 30 seconds to make or whether you get the ready to drink.
Starting point is 00:10:05 That's even better in a rush. After checkout, you can fill out the survey and say Real Reject sent you a limited time offer. Get 15% off Huell online with my code rejects at the link of the description box and pincom and in the link right here on screen. New customers only limited time. So don't sit on it. Thank you to Huel for once again, helping to support my lifestyle and for partnering up with us yet again.
Starting point is 00:10:27 They had a nice have your cake and eat it too here. Because even though, like, at first I was like, okay, so they're gonna, you know, you're sitting doing some amount of math. I wasn't doing too much math. But, you know, I was like, okay, so they'll let Charlie and Nick suggest a happily ever after. And Tao and Elle will suggest a more realistic ending. But even their ending is like pretty hopeful and suggests that love. And, you know, I think they end it really nicely and that you can extrapolate any number of things and any number of happily's ever afters or happily ever dramaticallys. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:56 you know, that you want to. And yeah, I mean, I feel like, you know, instead of just feeling like, oh, we got to tie up all these loose ends, like the whole thing with Nick, I thought was a really poignant thing to bring in. And I like that this show into movie has been a really, really, to me, nice example of how to mature a story along with the cast, along with the characters growing, aging up, maturing. And to go into like season three, which has a more focused, dramatic set of themes and circumstances. to deal with to then go to something in this final portion that flips their dynamic creates a sort of yin-yang and presents you with an not a harder problem but yeah i slightly more like you said abstract problem thing to have that's still very relatable i thought it was just really graceful really human this whole thing has been like really human and really lovely and even in a show i bet the whole like head boy thing would be much more expanded on but even that i thought was like like that's a plot thread that i could have used more of because that basically gets boiled down to charlie gets elected to head boy his proposal gets turned down he finds a place to do it anyway and it works like the kids show up and so like i love to see that i like that representation but a thematically it's symbolically represents of his character arc is really good yeah absolutely that's something though that like would
Starting point is 00:12:11 have been cool to see play out because we've spent so much time in the school and because the art room has been such a safe haven and there has been this journey in the background with mr ajai and mr ferruc and all that stuff you know there are things yeah there's a lot yeah everything you could say is pretty much they could have done more but what they did was great Yeah, you know, and very heartwarming and props to them for giving the trans, especially the priaping, especially just like the whole, what do we want trans rights? When do we want it now? Just letting that play for a while is a bold and lovely thing that they did. So yeah, I was really, I was really surprised by that because like the L and Tao stuff, whenever they showed up, I was very moved. Like I really grew to love Tao especially a lot and L a lot, them as a, as an interesting couple to watch too. So I don't think this finale movie Tops any of the seasons of the show I still feel like season three is undoubtedly the strongest
Starting point is 00:13:03 It's just really hard to compete Like to compare a movie to a television show It is really it is different And I don't feel like there's like you were saying With Charlie there's aspects to a story That could have been explored a little bit more With the television show That introduced that whole thing with like the Alfie kid and everything
Starting point is 00:13:20 Get a subplot with Derek Jacoby and his boyfriend Yeah, old dudes Or even like a rap up to the brother with David and stuff, you know. That's another thing where I'm like, love that scene. Would have been cool to see that expanded on it. You get one moment where
Starting point is 00:13:35 you're like, okay, there's some element of understanding I hesitate to say healing, but something there, yeah. Yeah, but in terms of like their character arcs, and I don't really, outside of like what he did at school, Charlie, I don't really feel like we missed out on the arcs
Starting point is 00:13:51 and their screen time, like I said, like if we do the math, this is pretty much the runtime you would get of Nick and Charlie in the show and I thought it was like beautifully handled and very real even their breakup scene was it was done in a very realistic way where you just like talk yourself and too fucking like pushing the other person away
Starting point is 00:14:08 sabotaging it just because you're afraid of what might happen even though there's actually nothing wrong with you guys right now there's not really the thing to be afraid of you're bringing your fear into reality yeah it was like it was really sweet it was really heartfelt and hopeful
Starting point is 00:14:25 very wonderfully acted and that was really pleasant time and very very sensual and I do appreciate that I appreciate I'm not even joking a lot more sensual than before yeah and I think that that's also a night again like any anything to do with sexuality and young people is always a hot button but I think that again young people come of age and have sex and this show has been a really lovely illustration of that in a queer context but in any context really and to watch them yeah broach that last season and then have that be one of the more reliable elements of their relationship this season as they navigate this harsher interpersonal stuff is, yeah, just another lovely flavor. Absolutely. They go for it. That's pretty simple story. So I don't have much to say, honestly. You think with like a wrap up of a whole thing,
Starting point is 00:15:11 you would have like so much similar? It's pretty straightforward. And the show's always been kind of simple, you know? Slices of life, boy, slices of life. It's like the season three dealt with so much darker stuff, you know. So it was like this, this was like the story they had to tell to wrap up. their love story. I feel like they did it. Yeah. And given the position they're in almost, there's like a, when it's like the last year or something or people are about to go away somewhere, like time moves faster in a place like that than when you've got time to spare.
Starting point is 00:15:37 Oh, for sure. In some kind of social scenario. So, anywho, gang, leave us your thoughts on Heart Stopper forever. The movie, the series up to this point, anything and everything. Hope you guys have enjoyed. Hope you guys feel lovely. And, uh, yeah, go profess your love to someone special today. And we'll, we'll catch you next time. for whatever comes down the bike. Be well, peeps.
