Without further ado, let's continue to get a rivalry. And yes, that was a reference to episode
three I gave you.
You guys, that was awesome. That was great. I was beautiful. I love love. I love. I'm
excited for them.
What a beautiful arc for Hunter.
What a great arc.

Andrew.
Aaron.
How are you feeling, buddy?
Man, that was so heartfelt and so touched.
That was great.
And I understand now that ambitious and bold take to interject the storyline between Kip and Hunter in episode three.
And as heartbroken as I was that we didn't get the ending that we wanted.
for those two characters by the end of episode three.
I think that was the smart and wise choice
so that we could get where we wanted to here
at the end of episode five,
not only for those two,
but so we could arrive where we wanted to
with Ilya and Shane as well
because they were not in a place too
where they felt that they could publicly, you know,
feel that they were ready to come out as well.
So when they saw that Hunter was ready to take that step
on the biggest stage,
like he wasn't just publicly coming out,
as a professional athlete
like he was doing it the moment
that they won the
I think in the NHEL
it's the Stanley Cup or whatever they call it here
I mean so the entire world is basically
looking at this so when he's doing it in front
of the world basically as well as the sports
audience I mean that's a pretty big step
forward and I like that this episode
really focused on a lot of things that
not only were being said but a lot of things
that weren't being said
and it's just a it's a very
touching episode and
And I love that Ilya as well, not only has to deal with the death of his father, but he's being a lot more vulnerable, and he's reciprocating a lot more of Shane's feelings and vice versa as well.
And Shane is also letting him know that, you know, how devastated he was about the freak out that happened in the last time and that he feels so strongly about him and that he really knows that he is gay and wants to be with him and that he's falling so head over heels for him.
and yeah
I might be
recency bias
I don't know
but this
I know episode
before
this was my
favorite episode
but just
the progression
of this entire
episode and with
the book end
of this episode
this
it might be
my favorite
episode so far
I'm really
leany
episodes three and five
for sure
but this one
might have stamped it
I have to think
about it
some more
but three and five
for sure
yeah
but what an
incredible ending
and I think
it just
does not go unspoken
for just how brave that was of Hunter
just I
think better to
I like that old saying better to
have loved and lost than never
to have loved it on like I think just to
see everyone celebrating with all their
loved ones just made him feel like
hey look I won the Stanley Cup or whatever
this cup is called and like
but I feel so empty inside
I feel nothing right now and then he
when he saw Kip there like he's like
no I want to celebrate with the person that
that means the most that makes me feel something alive inside and that just i love that he took
that step forward and uh you know damn the damn the consequences of what anyone's going to think
or do i don't give a shit i'm going to be with the person that that uh i care for and love the most
and i love that that's such a beautiful and heartfelt message but erin would you think i loved it
i thought it was great um yeah i'm kind of with you on that i feel like episode three up to this
point has been my favorite episodes without a shadow of a doubt but i feel like this one rivals it so i think
to uh to split the difference or to to be fair to both episodes i will say that was my favorite
episode for for hunter and kip for scott and kipp and this is my favorite episode for for
alien Shane agreed good point um but yeah i really really love this episode not only for
how supportive the women in their lives
what the hell is happening
what is happening oh my god
oh my god
hi
hello holy shit
hey hey
oh wow oh wow
this is insane
this is
wow we're keeping this on camera
we're keeping this alive
there's a man with with bagpipes
here and a kilt
This is crazy.
This is insane.
And Michael's here, too.
This is a triumphant thing to have for this episode that we're watching.
Yes.
This is beautiful.
How topicals.
This is a rejoicing celebration.
Happy freaking New Year, everybody.
This is a momentous occasion.
Hunter and Kip.
Hunter and Kipp.
Hunter and Kipp!
Yes.
Michael, have you seen Heated Rivalry?
Have you seen the show Heated Rivalry?
We're on it.
We just finished episode five.
Oh, yeah.
Okay.
Do you think, Chicken Wang?
This is beautiful.
That was actually perfect timing for what just happened.
I know.
We couldn't have scripted that any better.
I was like, I hear noise.
That was not, I was like, that's not my phone.
We had no idea that was what to happen.
That literally is not scripted, but that was perfect timing.
That was crazy.
um where the hell was i yeah i don't know i'm flabbergasted yeah um we were yeah i don't know
if you guys can hear that in the background but it's a great day it's a great day for music
it's great day for love yeah and the expression of love which this episode is about the
accepting of at least internally and to you know uh scott and kipps perspective or or storyline publicly
I thought it was great, man.
I think this episode did a really great job of showcasing where both Ilya and Shane, I'm sorry, Ilya and yeah, Shane developed too emotionally the acceptance of their feelings for one another and the embrace.
And I thought it was a very, um, very impactful choice to let the drama and love and intimacy, emotional intimacy of their relationships, take press.
over the physical intimacy that were that was very prominent in episodes one, two and episode
four and I I liked it because that was the way in which they were able to express
themselves in secret and the safety of how they knew how to they didn't know how to accept
what they had for one another as real or as as as pure Shane didn't even know that he was
fully gay into the experience with with Rose.
and Ilya finally is at a place where he doesn't have to be this, this cash cow that he was for most of his life, for most of his professional career.
And he doesn't have to live up to the expectations of what he perceived he had to because of his brother, because of his father.
And though he's sad that his father is gone, it gives him the freedom to now embrace who he actually is in the life he wants to live.
And I feel his sense of sadness and I feel the pressure that he had to go through because of the culture he comes from being in Russia and how much that could damage his not only physical and personal safety, but his life and reputation in his career, at least in Russia, you know, this is 2017.
So we're entering an era that is more progressive and more accepting not to where it is now.
but still, this is the beginnings of, you know, people starting to be themselves and starting to be able to live out loud.
And I really enjoyed it.
I really, really enjoyed that they are now finally at a place where they can say they have feelings for each other.
Yeah, this is a fantastic episode and fantastic bagpipes to celebrate the acceptance and reclamation of love in a loud.
supported kind of way.
So amen, happy for that.
And I agree with what you just said.
We're going to get in the questions in like two seconds here.
I think also, too, it is a more progressive time being 2017.
There is a line from Alia, too, where he said that his father is just more old
fashion, not only on top of the culture, but that about his dad, too.
Yeah.
Man.
Freaking A.
So those are our quick thoughts.
Yeah.
And without further ado, let's get into the questions.
All right.
Nicky San Risa
How
Now that you've been
A little low
Let me start that over
Now that you've seen
Episode 5
How has that change
Or informed your opinion
On episode 3
And how it fits
Into the rest of the story
The fandom tends to be
Mixed on episode 3
But I love it
And feel it's pivotal
To Shane and Ilya's story
Thank you for reacting to the series
And I enjoyed your reaction
Thank you
Thank you.
Appreciate you Nikki
I'm surprised
People are mixed
I mean, again, it's all subjective.
It's how you resonate with it
and how it makes you feel how you feel the story progresses
and the characters get their emotional arcs.
But I love episode three as well as Aaron,
and I think it's very pivotal to this one
because we see that in episode three,
that Hunter and Kip, first of all,
that that relationship is very wholesome.
It's not toxic like Ilya and Shane.
At that point is.
And so it's nice to get a break for a moment,
momentarily,
relationship. I also thought it was a very bold and ambitious take to go to just these two characters
we had not really spent any time with. So that was, what an incredible choice that was, and to get me
hooked onto that right away, but also to the fact that there's a possibility of losing someone
you care for so much if you're not ready to take that bold step forward of being with them,
being public about it, right? Because you have to keep it so private and you can't let anyone know
about it and you have to tell the other person you can't let anyone know about it either except the
one or two people who have figured it out in your life and that's not that's not love right i mean yeah
it is love in the in the the wider scope it's not really love so i think there was a greater deal
and message there and i think there was an incredible emotional arc when it came to hunter's character
and it also took the step forward that ilia and shame needed because we've seen not only their
growth and evolution just as characters itself
But their relation is slowly coming more to the forefront when it comes to public.
Like, they're slowly touching each other in public.
They kind of kissed each other on the ice, not on the lips or anything.
Just like, you know, when they made a good, yeah, on the cheek.
Like when they were on the ice, they're touching each other on the hands.
And then he showed up to the hospital room.
He's like, yeah, even though he's on morphine and stuff.
So like, they've been edging closer there.
But now that Hunter gave them that step forward to be like, oh, my God, we can do this.
It's okay.
Like, I think it was extremely important to have Hunter and Kip be there and then for Hunter to do that.
So that's just my thoughts, but I think it would have been very unwise not to have that episode and not to have Hunter and Kip personally.
But what about you?
Yeah.
I already liked episode three enough as it was at the time of us watching it.
That was my favorite episode because it was one that was very well executed.
He felt the chemistry between those two immediately.
and it was a lot more sweet and sincere and, you know, there was this very much a, I guess, I don't mean conventional in the negative sense, but there was this meat, cute sort of rom-com sort of thing happening with them, and I really appreciated how pure their relationship was.
so for us to then see how that relationship compared and contrast to our main two with Shane and Ilya and then see how that storyline came full circle and how them being in a place where they can publicly claim each other's love in a very big way and almost an unintentional or I guess intentional blasting it out to the world kind of way it gives Shane and
these guys who are just now
coming to terms with the fact that
they do have deeper feelings with each other
the courage to be able
to embrace that
love a little bit more because they both feel they
don't have
maybe not the same degree to lose
and I feel like for Ilya maybe he
feels like he has
less to lose with the
death of his father because even though
the country will still may have
a reaction he doesn't have to deal
with his ramifications of
his family because he's distancing himself from them because he's felt so so used by them and he felt
the pressure of that so i think they did a really good job of of showcasing that and i would like
to see whether we see it the next episode or see it um in the next season that these two couples
can meet each other and maybe talk about their relationships i think that would be very very cool
to see. But yeah, thank you, Nikki, for sending in that question. Really appreciate you.
Okay, from, hold on, I can see at the bottom you're saying, my name is pronounced
Matilda. Okay, thank you for saying that. And thank you so much for being a royal regic
for asking a question. We appreciate you. Scott's coming out is beautiful and romantic,
but sadly, it's also idealistic and unrealistic. No real NHL player has ever come out.
someone will have to be the first one to do it and the environment is not welcoming at the moment do you think this will change and could more media like heated rivalry help in some ways you know i certainly hope so and it was very cool to see somebody not only reveal that they are gay to the public setting like that but then to kiss and embrace them in a public
setting and such a moment of victory and I don't think it obviously it should not affect
somebody's perception of them being able to play and do their job they're a person who
love somebody and you should be allowed to love who you want to love and embrace that
without it causing up a stir for some people that have no business being in your
relationship in the first place they don't know you from gym on the street you know so I felt
like it was something that should be more common, that should be something that we are
as a society allowed to accept and embrace.
And I hope that maybe this show does, you know, inadvertently give the people who don't
have the courage to come out the, yeah, the courage to do so in real life.
And it would be awesome to see a moment like that.
play out in the National Hockey League.
Sure.
Yeah, let's let's embrace love in sports.
Let's make, let's embrace being able to be ourselves and break what we perceive to be the, this, the, the, the constraints of masculinity.
You know, we can, we can evolve.
We can evolve.
What about you?
I'm totally with Aaron.
I hope this show helps that as well.
and I know there's probably going to be some people that say to me,
hey, we just want to watch sports, let's keep it about that.
But, I mean, we see a lot of times when players' spouses come to support them.
We can see them like on the big screen and stuff like that.
And that's great.
I have no problem with that as well.
Or when they go to sports award shows, they're there with them.
I just don't understand why it's a big deal that if someone is gay,
that if their spouse or their lover is with them, it's not a big deal, whatever.
You know what I mean?
So I don't see the contrast or the difference there.
So I don't think it should be a big deal.
You love who you love.
And I don't think it should be, we should heighten such a, in terms of the negative.
So I'm hoping that this show brings it in a positive light for players who, you know, are gay and feel, are afraid to come out.
So I personally, you know, I'm saying that here comfortably in the studio where I have nothing personal to lose, but I'm hoping that something like this is welcoming for others who are in that position where they do feel there is a possibility, like what are the consequences and the ramifications, but they do get some vindication and knowing that hopefully it is okay that people are. There are people like Aaron and myself, and I'm sure many incredible fans like us here at Reject Nation that are not going to talk.
ostracize or just be like yeah do you guys who love each other great that's awesome you know they love
each other yeah I'm end of that thank you for the question we appreciate you thank you for the
question C R thank you for sending any question we really appreciate you uh why do you think
ilia immediately called Shane after seeing Scott's a big public display of affection for Kip what is his
thought process behind seeing that and immediately deciding to come out to uh come
out to the cottage. Well, what they're planning
is they want to go against each
other in the next Stanley Cup
and then they want to have a public display
of affection and outshine
Hunter. That's, no, I mean, they saw that
what Hunt, I mean, my interpretation was they saw what Hunter
did and took that big, bold step to
come out to the world.
And these are, they
obviously share a fondness. They
are in love with each other.
And who's the first person you call when you see
that? You're going to call Shane, right?
so I think he was
scared to take that step forward
but when he saw Hunter taking that step forward
now he's ready
when he saw Hunter doing that
so I think that was the thought process
behind Ilya and
yeah it's just no longer afraid
and also too with the death of his father
and now he doesn't have to conform
to what society wants anymore
he can be his own man
and not have to worry about what others think
and I like that
yeah yeah I kind of
I echo the sentiment that Andrew said
I felt like everything in this episode from the conversation that they had at the bar top where, you know, they're teasing that, you know, maybe they can start talking to each other once again to then Ilya's father passing and professing his love for the first time to him in Russian.
I felt like everything leading up in the domino effect of them coming to terms with, you know, Shane being.
accepting the fact that he's gay and Ilya accepting the fact that he loves him that he loves Shane
there was just the cherry on top of like okay I will come to your cottage I will spend time with you
we will actually try to embrace each other and this can be something that is beyond just the physical
thing that we've been sharing for all these years and I thought that was beautiful I thought that was
great because neither of them knew that Shane was gay and I'm sorry neither of them knew that Scott was
gay and they felt like it was something that was so taboo no one would ever accept them
no one would ever allow them to work again they would lose everything but for him to be
the first one ever to be that way to to show his love in a public setting I felt that
kind of opens the domino in the floodgates for anybody to be able to do that whether it's
in hockey or in any other sport I think that's that's great and I'm excited to see
the fallout so to speak or like the falling action of that that proclamation of love hopefully positive
hopefully positive and i like how too rose when she had that discussion with shane um where she said
earlier do you think there's other gay hockey players as well like there was kind of a a it was
symbolizing but it was also a little bit of foreshadowing for what was going to happen later in the
episode with hunter so that's a great great that was a great interaction
too. I like how observant she was,
but also understanding, and she, like,
genuinely cares about Shane
and wanted to still be in his life
and wants to be best friends with him.
Yeah. That was sweet. I like that.
Yeah, that was great. I think, yeah, I think
Ilya thought, well, if this guy
who's as well-established hockey player
and now the champion
of, you know, the entire league
in this year can do that, then
so can I. Yeah. We,
we as the stars are allowed to be happy.
We are allowed to
yeah we are the the role models the leaders are allowed to live out loud and live the lives
we want that is a Aaron seriously great point like it's one thing if just any player doesn't
and it's like mid mid tier superstar whatever and that's still a big deal but when it's like
the MVP of the championship one of the best players that's also another big deal too so that that's
a very astute observation my friend yeah us as the captains yeah sure can set the example yeah
But yeah, that's our third question.
So, yeah, thank you, CR for setting that in.
All right.
Another question from CR.
Thank you again for sending in the other question as well.
Also, side question should Rose and I'm so sorry if I mispronounce her name,
Svetlana, combine their joint sleigh and get their own heated rivalry spin-off as a reward for being the best girl best friends to emotionally stunted boys.
what do you think would you be
dead for a spin-off list? Sure man
why not? I don't know
what the spinoff would be per se
but you know I like those characters
are very supportive they're very well cast very charming
so yeah let's make it happen
heated I don't think it would be called
heated rivalry but whatever it is
you can keep the heated part and then change the second
part. Call the show yeah sorry sorry
go ahead. No yeah
heated beards I don't know
called a menage eto
just those two going out
after men
bearded rivalry
I like those characters
a lot
I love how observant they are
I love how charming
they are
charismatic I love
just how wholesome
they are
and they're just
very good people
in general
and just very
understanding
and I would be
and very attractive
me at as well
so I would definitely
if they went
a spinoff route
I would be so down
for that I don't know
what the story line per se
would be
but if they came up
with I think
Aaron and I and everyone here always says
you always have to justify
having a season of anything
whether it's a spinoff or whatever
so if they feel that there's a need to justify
a storyline I love those characters
enough that I will watch it
so I'm so down
I mean I think it would be
fun too if they really did go that route
you would not have them
be prominent characters but I think it would be fun
to have Ilya and Shane
just get some cameos in there
as well. Yeah yeah
Just to really feel that continuity of the world building.
For sure.
For sure, for sure.
All right.
And CR with one last question coming in before we wrap up this video.
Do you think Shane understood more of Ilius' secret declaration of love than we think,
either literally from the Russian or even just emotionally from Ilius' vone slash intonation?
I would have to imagine that because he knew the state, Ilya, felt like,
he didn't know how to express himself even though he didn't know exactly what he was saying
my hope was that he was secretly did know and he did learn russian and he just didn't tell him
that would have been great that would have been a wonderful surprise but i feel like even
through the language barrier you're able to tell that he's really giving something heavy off
his chest and through the tonality can tell that he was really confessing his pain but also
confessing his love and he doesn't maybe not know the degree in which that is true but i feel
like even through the the language barriers he can he can feel it i totally agree with you i
mean yeah i i don't know if he tutus is the language because he doesn't i don't think he understands
russian but i was saying it while we were reacting in real time i don't think he understands what he's
saying but i think he he he feels what he's saying yeah and i think he could feel like the frustration
he was venting out and just that nobody in his family views him as an actual human being.
They just view him as a piggy bank, but also, too, viewing how much he loves Shane.
And he was afraid to get that off his chest.
And he knew that because Shane is also like Rose and I'm so sorry, I can't remember Ilya's friend's name, is very observant as well.
And I think that Shane was in an understanding place, especially in that moment, even though not understanding, just feeling the moment and knowing that I think he was.
really did at least for my interpretation feeling the love in that moment that he was telling him
that yeah yeah that's great and yeah i feel like we're on the same page about that yeah great
episode though seriously i'm excited to see the finale what the fallout as aaron said here it's i'm
hoping and praying it's it's mostly if not all positive from uh not only players around the league
but from fans around the league and also Shane's parents as well how they i think that's going to be a big
thing too to how Shane reacts as well as like telling his parents like I'm gay too like how what their
commentary is on on the situation so there's a lot of different things that I'm very fascinated to see
what happens in the next episode yeah also what happens with with the two of them when they spend
extended amount of time together because they've never done that before they just had like you know
text messages when they're in each other cities and you know one-night hookups not even spending the
night so what's happening if there's you know they've only spent the night in all these years what
almost 10 years they've only spent the night together one time so what's going to happen when
they're together for multiple weeks at a time or at least multiple days at a time uh so yeah i'm excited
to see what that is like but yeah that'll be it for us today guys with this episode and we look
forward to seeing guys the finale and yeah until then stay lovely
