No, but actually, do you know anything about this movie at all?
Yeah, there's a clown.
Really?
Art, the clown?
I think it's really cool.
I don't know.
Let's go meet our friend Art.
Okay, so I forgot that now we, now to talk about it.
Yeah, I'm excited to talk about this movie.

RejectnationShop.com.
Pick up your shirt today.
Okay, we just watched Terifier.
What year did this come out?
2016, I think.
This came out in 2016.
Gregory Alba, do you like this movie?
I think.
I think I like this movie, too.
It just was like next to impossible to watch.
How do you, in right mind, recommend this movie to somebody?
I don't know.
I like the, there's something about the, just the affect of it that I really enjoy, of its commitment to its ugliness and
brutality and its overall just like vile tone that it has the entire like the first half
I was actually like this is actually kind of fun and then after the the the uh the sawing in
half of the woman upside down then I was like okay this isn't so fun anymore this is you said that
out loud you were like this isn't funny more and I was thinking when were you having fun art was
kind of fun he was kind of fun before he is a clown mime so I do get it I
think that this may they did exactly what they wanted to do with this movie like how i feel
is i think exactly what their intention was yeah so that means that they accomplished what they
set out to do which is what what means it's a good movie you know like that this is what they
wanted um i just thought it was absolutely vile and disgusting and and there were so many
scenarios that like the script wise i'm like that didn't make sense that dialogue doesn't
make sense that choice doesn't make sense but it's not the purpose of this the
purpose of this is to terrify the crap out of you and it worked yeah it's a repulsive horrifying
experience i i do think the characters um there was a little too much of that same beat of like
i'll give him like one or two times i understand you we need it gets knocked down you just a chance
to get away you get away but like every character every single time has happened so much where
you hit him he goes down he goes down and then you're like i'm gonna run away second girl terra
when she literally is like,
get up, come on, let's go.
I'm like, what are you doing?
What are you doing?
Why are you trying to engage in a fist fight with this guy?
It also just doesn't check out for her character.
It's not like we've seen her the whole time,
be ready for a fight.
Yeah, that was like the dumbest part of the movie to me.
What did you think about,
what do you think about the ending,
what it means moving forward?
So we know we start,
which you called really quick,
that this is a flashback.
So we start with,
what's Tara's sister's name
I think it's Victoria
Victoria we start with Victoria
and she has the interview
and she murders somebody
so and we end this movie
with Victoria going into that interview
but with art being alive
are they
a tag team now
or like is she
did she learn from him
did she just lose her mind because of him
what do you kind of make of this
I think
that's kind of the
Halloween ends
you've seen that that kind of tries
doing a similar type of commentary
of when you survive the killer's wrath
that you become you yeah you sort of become
the victim becomes the killer
afterwards so it's showing more of like
the horrifying virus effect that
this art the clown guy has I think
of of someone who can
not not just an artist around to terrorize now
now the terror it kind of duplicates
and I think that's kind of creepy
what do you have an interpretation?
Well I'm with you except usually
and this there's nothing usual about this movie
but usually one or the other would have survived
so you know like if she was going to become a killer
she's now like the terrifier but they both survive
so he's still the terrifier and she's just a
one-off killer yeah this movie kind of this ending kind of does what the Halloween franchise
talking like the OG franchise but what that evolved into but they all did it in like the last
five minutes of this movie where they're like oh it's arts kind of supernatural that the flickering
and everything it's a very big indication it's supernaturally resurrects and then there's someone
else who survives is passed on there's also because they kind of like did this amalgamation of all
the Halloween movies stuff like that it took five movies to get to they did it in like one ending
I want to look at who the guy who plays art is,
and I also want to see what the budget of this movie is.
Please do.
I do think that the movie definitely had room to not just exceed effectiveness,
but be like a really good movie.
It was unrated.
That makes more sense.
Because there was times I was like, wow, this is shockingly violent.
I like because I appreciate elements about the structure where you do kind of cut back and forth between victim and art and not just adopting one sole perspective normally the movie like this you would just take on the perspective of perhaps the victims and then you only see art via through the victim's eyes or the people who are being stalked their eyes and I like how they cut back and forth and eventually just because the movie becomes this thing where obviously is like oh everyone who just encounter
is going to die you never really have a i don't know i didn't really get that hope that anyone was
really going to survive no me anything from this and i do think with some of this except for the fact
at the beginning we see the girl and you kind of called that but i wasn't thinking that at all
yeah there's so it i think that intro is kind of smart um because it does show you the terror that
this art the clown character will inflict and also it does keep a little bit of a puzzle box to
who is the survivor you know that makes you kind of watch you're watching the movie going who's
going to that way you're not just watching people be slaughtered you're also kind of guessing here
um because like there's something about lack of budget that i think the lack of budget really is
effective for this experience it's yeah some of the some of the stuff with the dialogue and
and then also um i do think could have actually been perhaps more invested in the care like like
Like, really like the characters first before.
I feel like that's kind of like a key rule for any horror film.
It's if you're going to be killing people a lot,
if you've got to really be invested in who they are as people.
Do you have a guess of what the budget of this movie is?
I would guess $750,000.
So I think that every complaint that I possibly have goes away
when I hear what the budget of this movie was.
Is it six figures?
It is not.
It's under six figures.
Yes.
Oh, wow.
Okay.
That makes more sense.
This was a 35,000.
thousand dollar budget oh amazing that's amazing especially for the practical
this is a favor of movie this is a this is called in the favors an
terrifier two apparently has a 250 thousand dollar budget uh-huh and grossed over 15
million yeah this movie grossed um worldwide 400,000 so that's huge yeah and terrifier
three apparently has a two million dollar budget wow they got real money for terrifier
three i wonder if that would actually dilute the experience it is possible
but I will say $35,000 to make this movie.
I mean, I would have said for sure
there was no way that this was under 100.
Yeah.
That's very impressive.
It is very impressive.
Because it did feel sort of akin to
like some of those really great YouTube short films
I've seen before.
But an expanded version of that.
You know, there's a bit of that.
like kind of watching Robert Rodriguez do El Mariachi flare to it,
which now the budget makes more sense.
But a very DIY sort of experience with a group of people
who are really on the same page about doing it together.
So, yeah, actually, that does, in hindsight,
make me appreciate it more.
I guess he did another movie before this called All Hallows Eve.
I've heard of that.
That featured Art the Clown.
So this is the second time.
So this is coming from Wikipedia,
but it's the first film centered on Art the Clown,
Second feature-length film to include the character after the anthology film All Hallows Eve,
the fourth and fifth installment overall, including two short films and anthology installments in the Terrifier franchise.
What's the name of the short films? Do they have that there?
No, but I can look. Leone wrote the film specifically as a means of showcasing the character art and his practical effects work, such as the controversial hacksaw death scene.
Leone has expressed regret for leaving the protagonist underdeveloped.
Leon film Terrifier on a low budget 35,000.
It had an Indiegogo campaign, although it ultimately did not reach its goal.
That should be motivating for a lot of filmmakers.
There's a lot of filmmakers who don't reach their goals.
Like, can't make the movie.
Really and truly, I'm super with you.
No, I don't see the names of the...
Because when I was watching, I was like, I feel like I've seen like this guy in a short film before.
When I was watching art at certain smiles,
Okay, let me look for David Howard Thornton and see.
His performance is brilliant.
Really brilliant.
Like, there is a variety to this performance.
Oh, he's not listed as a...
And as much as there's been, like, killer clown characters as such a trope in the horror genre,
I really felt like he brought something very unique.
And that helps make this movie stand out.
He, there was this thing called Nightwing Escalation, which he played the, it must have been like a fan made kind of thing, but he played Joker, which makes sense because he's giving Joker vibes.
Okay.
And he was in an episode of Gotham as an orderly, which that totally fits his world.
Sure.
I'm surprised because I watched all of Buckkus, which is also Peacock, which is the Pete Davidson show.
And he plays Art the Clown in that show for an episode, but I don't remember that.
That's fine.
Yeah, that is fun.
he was really really good do you have any theories on how old this man is i would say somewhere
in his 40s yeah yeah he was just too good yeah it's too professional yeah you feel like he's one
of those like those uh character actors who probably is like doesn't get enough work yeah i mean
he was just he did such an excellent job his movement was really truly wild uh i can i cannot get
over the budget of this movie.
I really can't.
Let me look and see if there's any trivia on this.
David Howard Thornton was the sixth person who auditioned for Art the Clown after
Mike Giannelli retired from the role and acting altogether.
Oh, so it was a different character playing fun.
During the audition, he began miming, tasting his beheaded victim's blood, but then added
salt to it to improve its flavor.
That is what won him the role.
That's clever.
That's funny.
the ambulance that drives past dawn as she listens to the radio broadcast in her car was unplanned that was a real ambulance that drove by oh no way that's wild um so david howard thornton who plays art was previously uh he had mime experience which he utilized in this brilliant yeah that's that was the that that makes that really helps make the movie yeah uh director damien leon created art the clown because he felt that the 2010s lacked
an iconic horror clown.
However, he purposely made art as different
from its penny-wise as possible.
For example, Art doesn't have hair,
whereas all black and white uses weapons
and doesn't speak.
Yeah, kind of the gun maneuver was a nice subversion.
Okay, so the latex face mold
for Art the clown was the same
used by Mike Giannelli in All Hallows Eve
in order to keep the look of the character
consistent between the films.
Okay, so we just didn't watch All Hallows Eve.
yeah i don't think you need to no no it just not like i was like i'm missing context here
i was i ever felt that no it's just interesting that there is a not rated movie with art the clown
before this with a different actor oh but it does star that um reporter oh that's fun right
that's a good tie-in oh that's a cool tie-in yeah maybe there's more to her
interesting well a lot of interesting stuff did you like it at
The same answer as you.
I think so.
Yeah.
I will say, like, there's, like, I like, like, it's just on my own time.
I've been, I'm catching up with the final season of American Horror Story, not the final, but the latest season.
I saw it.
TV girl.
The Emma Roberts one?
Yeah.
Of course.
I like it.
Yeah, it was good.
I like American Horror Story.
I do too.
And I've been watching the third movie to the Rob Zombie trilogy, The Devil's Rejects.
It's called Three from Hell.
So I like, like, you know, grimy horror movies and shit.
I really do.
At the same time, this was, this did reach a point where I feel like if I was by myself, I might have been like, you know, this is just not making me feel good.
Not like, I'm not liking it, but it's just like, I need to take a little breather from this.
I'm going to turn, I'll finish this later.
Like, I does have that point in the movie where I guess.
It's right when there's a saw going between somebody's legs and I'm like, yeah.
What's to reach there?
I was like, this is a,
this is not fun at all now.
Yeah,
it got really unpleasant,
but I appreciate the,
for $35,000, man,
this guy knows how to make it work
with low to no budget.
Holy crap.
I thought it was,
I thought it would be in the six figures
solely because of the practical effects.
Yes.
The practical effects alone was so good.
You know,
he just didn't pay himself.
He did all of it.
I'm a practical effects artist.
He must have edited it.
makeup effects artists go into directing a man do they save a little if you're a visual effects artist or a makeup effects artist when you go up to directing man do you save a lot of money but you also don't make any money you know unless the movie makes the money you take the risk yeah exactly you don't get the payment but you make a serious profit yeah for sure comes out and yeah this is a yeah he was the editor too he's the director he's the writer he's the producer oh no he's not the producer director he's the writer he's the editor i will say i think in terms of editing
while story elements, of course, could have been enhanced.
Oh, she's the casting director, the red-headed girl from the...
Oh, fun. The journalist?
Yeah, it looks like that.
Let's see.
Well, the editor...
Yeah, the journalist. She's the casting director.
I think, like, they had a consistent pace to it.
You know, it never floundered into one direction or another.
And there were times of, like, just pure genuine tension.
I did think as the movie kind of got in the last 20 minutes or so, it started to lose that
because they're just like, all right,
whoever shows up is going to die.
Yeah,
like the friend who came that was called
and then he goes and gets the key underneath
and then he immediately dies.
It was like...
All right, yeah.
Okay.
But there were others like when the mom lady
goes to like coddle him,
art,
I thought there was a lot of tension there
the first time in the...
Yeah, but I'm still...
She was the character that I felt like
was the least fleshed out for me.
So we're supposed to just believe
there's a crazy lady
that lives there with a fake baby,
but he's never tried to kill her before.
And he's...
I think this was his first time in the build.
I think this is for some...
But she's like, oh, then there's somebody...
It was her response to it that seemed like he's been there before.
Yeah.
I was more surprised that the rat guy hadn't bumped in her or something.
Yeah.
Yeah.
The whole thing.
Like a little bit too coincidental.
But again, those are some script issues that I had that are totally...
I wipe it away because $35,000.
This man wrote, directed, and edited and did all the special makeup effects for this.
Like, come on.
Yeah, and there's a rather solid, consistent look to it.
There's something about maybe it was like a color.
I don't know if it was the in-camera way they shot it.
I feel like it was maybe some post-production editing thing they did
where they really have bumped up like the exposure and the –
not the exposure, but the contrast.
Because everything kind of had that like almost blown out effect to it.
But it gives it a consistent look throughout.
It's making $400 plus $1,000.
It's a lot of money, yeah.
like off of 35,000 that's a lot of money and then two more movies yeah even if you did 100,000
it's still like a lot of money it's listed that there's a fourth one coming yeah it was after
terrifier two not terrifier one but terrifier two when suddenly this started becoming like a big
conversation damn and and but watch but I hear terrifier two is like hardcore and I can
are we going to watch it correct uh maybe you guys
tell us in the comments. Let us know. Do you want us to
watch Terrifier? Two, are we going to be able to handle it?
Give us a heads off. Legit nervous about
actually watching it. Me too. Let us know.
And same thing with three when it comes out.
Yeah. I've never been nervous to put on a
movie here before. I'm still holding myself.
I'm still holding myself. Thanks for
being terrified with us for Terrifier. Greg,
any final thoughts? No, man.
If this gets enough views, I guess we'll watch
the second one. First thing I'm going to do.
I'm going to go home. I'm going to open up my laundry
machine. I'm going to check under my bed. I'm going to double lock and triple lock all of my
doors because this was a spooky one. Okay, later rejects. Bye.
