Thank you to Shopify for sponsoring this video.
More on them in just a bit.
Without further ado, we're going to get into the movie.
Let's go.
And find out what this is all about.
Let's go.
All right, guys, we just finished watching both the original or the theatrical and the alternate ending to the film.
So we have some patron questions.
to get to
and start a soft hair
Yeah
All right
Let's get into
Landon Miller's
Question
This movie's a regular
rewatch for me
It really stuck with me
Ever since I saw it as a kid
I just wanted to ask
What moment
Hate you the hardest
And why do you think
It's stuck with you?
I think it was the scene
Where he was
Either it was between two scenes
One when he
Had to kill Samantha
I was really sad
Or the scene
Where he was in
the shop and he wanted her to say hello and just like his desperation and to connect was really
just really touching and really sad yeah i would i would definitely say the hello part um because it's like
the the time when he saw frank which we all thought was real too they did something of that mannequin
where he kind of moved but when he had to like shoot up frank you're like oh god he's like really
losing it and he treats frank that mannequin as his friend
Like, so I think there's a lot of things in this movie that sort of stick with you.
Should you end up in a zombie apocalypse, you're losing your mind, do you treat mannequins like your friends?
You're desperate just for someone to talk to you.
And yet once that does happen, he kind of has like a weird, a weird response to it at first, you know, which is very normal.
Yeah, I know.
because you spend so long believing something that are wanting something that when it does
actually happen you have a hard time accepting it because you've been so disconnected for so long
and yeah it made sense to me what he would be that way and it's sad and I'm happy that
there is an ending where he got to you know potentially go on and experience some some life
and reintegration into society at least teasing that possibility and you know
know even the confirmation of the girl and her son being there shows that there is life beyond
what you've experienced in the past three years so yeah he did get that hello did that get that
conversation and in both versions but yeah i think that best answers your question as far as
what uh what made us feel our feels the most yeah yeah totally j dell if you were in neville's
position had the entire empty city
to yourself. What's the first thing you do
to stay sane? Build a
routine like he did, try to find other survivors,
or just explore the city while you
still could.
I would
probably watch movies like he does.
If I have electricity, by some miracle,
I'd probably have video games.
And be able to someone's
a routine to not go crazy, but
obviously, you know, only stay
during the day because
the freaks come out at night.
Yeah.
I would definitely be going around the city
Finding every weapon ammo that I could
All the UV lights
And all the food
But then I guess after a while
If I did that
Then I get yeah I would just hang out
And watch TV
And I guess hope that I would find some markers
And some paper somewhere
I'd explore
Yeah
Like a snooze it would be
Yeah but think about it
He went into that other apartment
to look for for items and whatnot.
And there was so much in there.
Oh, yeah.
He could use, which is like, that's kind of cool.
There's so many places you could probably like scavenge and they kind of go through.
I think it would be really dope if I was in his position.
Totally.
Yeah.
What about you?
What did you guys do?
Let us know.
Malik, if you were given Roberts Arsenal supplies and his safe house,
do you think you would have made it as long as he did?
And if given the opportunity, would you've left Manhattan altogether to try and find a human safe zone for a better chance?
In the city, if I had his bunker, yes.
I would probably, you know, I would keep it looky.
I'd be smart about it.
But I would for sure leave the city if I had the opportunity.
Yeah, 100%.
Yeah, like, duh, for sure.
I think, well, it's a weird question, Malik,
because we don't know if we're immune.
So I'd be like, yeah, probably the same.
But if I wasn't, no, dead after five minutes.
Oh, yeah.
Let's face it.
So, but I do think if I was like immune, I would be able to live.
in his like safe house for like a minute i i would very rarely leave unless i really really needed food
yeah why would you ever yeah i wouldn't all right j dale gave us some trivia the production
shut down seven blocks in new york city at a time to film the deserted scenes one of the biggest
tree closures in new york's history for a movie wow okay okay because i was wondering how
they got some of the footage that they got
because it looked really good and the times
they were driving through, it looked practical versus
obviously the zombies of CGI, you know, old school
CGI. But overall, I thought this movie was
great, greatly, like really good pacing, greatly
paced. And I'm glad that it was just like
93, 95 minutes. Plus, we watched the alternate
ending that's fine it would have only added on like an extra five minutes it's like pacing mixed
with they're not you don't have to drag anything out i don't think like anything took too long i feel
like it was very precise and to the point of like we need to watch what happened before and how
does someone get through this and what happens to that that person as they move through life like
this friend of the channel i got to tell you something before we ever started this youtube channel
John and I actually first tried doing t-shirt designs.
Let me tell you, it did not go well.
We did not know how to sell a darn thing.
So we can that.
And eventually, YouTube became a thing.
But in our heart of hearts, we always found our way back to merch.
The difference is time.
Shopify.
It allowed us to actually fulfill the dream we first started on before this channel ever existed.
We've been using Shopify for a couple of years now.
We started using them before they ever partnered with us via a sponsorship.
And we've never even thought about switching.
it's just that reliable and so easy to use.
Now, if you've never heard of Shopify,
it's the global commerce platform
that helps you sell online and in person.
So whether you're starting out with one product
or scaling up to thousands,
Shopify's got everything in one place.
Customizable templates.
Inventory management, analytics, built in marketing tools,
the whole ecosystem.
It's made for beginners like myself.
I still consider myself a beginner,
but trusted by major brands.
Believe me, your customers will feel that too.
So it's secure checkout, fast performance.
and an experience that feels polished from day one.
So if you have an idea you're sitting on,
whether it's, I don't know, comics, candles, pet gear, comic teas,
you can make your dream of reality with Shopify, just like we did.
You could sign up for $1 per month trial period at Shopify.com slash real rejects.
Once again, that's Shopify.com slash real rejects.
Thank you again, Shopify for allowing us to fulfill something we didn't think was possible.
I thought it was really
realistic and smart
Yeah, which ending did you like
Okay, so the alternate ending
I had an issue with
That he would
Be able to
Just drag her out there
And be like
Well, they're not going to eat him
Or the girl and the kid
Because you're bringing one of theirs out
We didn't establish any of that really
In the movie
I did spit
though when he was in that room to be like hold her up to the wall and and maybe they'll be like oh
she's one of us um i think that the ending that they went with was a lot better that was a good move
that alternate ending is um it's it's hopeful and i like that i like that um they survived that she
went on the radio it's a nice call back to that um but yeah what are you doing
I'm just turning it down because I want to watch as you talk.
Oh, okay.
Because I think maybe some stuff we're missing possibly because on YouTube it's nine minutes.
Yeah, but this is everything we watched.
Yeah, this part is the same.
And if you fast forward, it's like all, even when you were fast forward, it was like all the.
Anyway, alternate ending is like they, they, uh, he drags out to, right?
goes plexiglass and then she gets it open he's in there they're coming out yeah anyway i liked the
ending that they went with i think that's the one that makes the most sense i don't believe that we
would take as much time in assuming that this female zombie that he's somewhat cured is going to be
the answer for all of these dark seekers it's not going to be they're going to be like i'm still
going to want to eat your face off the fact that somehow he would have known
known that that was the lead guy's wife or something, we just didn't establish any of that.
I think it's a lot more Romeo and Juliet and realistic to have him have a grenade and go,
you get out, this is what you're here for, take the vaccine.
They're not going to stop.
That is realistic.
They're not going to stop is what he told her.
And that's true.
They need like, they need blood.
so somebody had to come up with something
and him with the grenade and be like
all right I'll take him out great
the alternate ending to me I was just like
I don't know about this
I actually
prefer the alternate ending
okay yeah I think it's because
it re contextualizes
the movie that we've watched
because you realize that
they're more sentient than we thought
not only that
but they've established like a sense of community within their version of life and we never see
them outright attack or go after Neville until he's aggressed them because when he was trying
to kill himself he went after and like mowed a bunch of them down so they were coming after
him to get revenge and when he found himself in the side of the building it was to get Sam I imagine
they thought he was impeding on their territory right so when he finally gets face to face with
one you're like yo you kidnap one of our own and then you see him on the wall like oh my god
i've like killed so many of their people yeah right so i think that that is interesting
makes you question like oh who's actually the monster you know they're even though they're not
what we know is humanity they're found like a new semblance of life within this uh this new state
and you know he's gonna go off and discover his own sense of life and new life in the revelation
of discovery that they have their own version of life yeah so yeah i like i like that take on it
and i'm curious us to know like why they they changed it or what was the i don't know
maybe it was like a test screening thing i don't know but if i was a producer i'd say grenade 100
that makes it like so much more sad and realistic and like harsh and like like would we
really be able to bring her out there and they go all right we're not going to get like kill you
now you're free to go but again that's under the assumption that they've they're savage and
their zombies yes and i know that they're still putting that oh they're sentient they're just
there for their their person or whatever their girl but i'm like well i mean this one this version
is like okay they're they're just zombies are just like mindless kind of doing whatever the other
one seems like okay maybe it's like a little bit more intentional which you know i feel like again
And this scene changes the context of the journey that you've been through.
Yeah, I think both are valid.
You know, one of them is a sacrifice play.
And, you know, this is the ultimate ends to the means, you know, about saving humanity,
which was his goal the entire time.
The other one is we can save humanity and have a new sense of life for myself.
Totally.
Yeah.
But I had fun.
I thought it was a great, a great film.
Yeah, I had a great time too.
All right, you guys, let us know if you like this movie, which version of the ending do you guys
like and what are your reasonings for that.
Tell us.
And yeah, without
not further ado, but
yeah, that'll be it. That's it.
We're leaving now. Bye.
