I'm going to go hungry, guys.
Starting point is 00:01:20 Let's do it, gang. That was fun. It was a lot of fun. Well, Aaron, what did you think? I thought it was great. I thought it was really fun. I think it may be. the best of the three of all animated movies ever all animated movies ever suck it spider man
Starting point is 00:01:36 into the spider verse and across spider verse ice age is now the new top of the buck i say it's down to the dinosaurs ice age three down to the dinosaurs is now the new best movie of all time so i'm sorry guys i'm sorry shrek i'm sorry spider man doesn't get better than this is it all right well pack it up go it's high praise high praise super high praise that's high praise the highest praise deserves an oscar uh but Yeah, no, this movie was great. It was excellent. I like the way that it advanced on what we've seen before. It actually felt like a sequel to the second one.
Starting point is 00:02:09 I like the way we got to see Sid kind of have his own story, kind of go into himself, you know. I'm not going to talk for 14 minutes, so I want you to have a chance to talk to. But I like the way this diversified the franchise. Yes. Yes, Greg. Goodness. Yes. Yes.
Starting point is 00:02:23 And how this goes. I'm supposed to listen. Are you going to circle? I'm supposed to listen for 14 minutes. I'm going to get a couple more points and I'll give it over to you. But I will say, I like that we got to see Diego and, that's right. Are you pulling to me? That's nice.
Starting point is 00:02:37 I like that. I like that. Actually, it's more of like a forward, kind of like a falling into it sort of thing. I wait until after the reaction, though, to fall asleep. That's fair. Yeah. You know, you get some sleep to catch up on. I get it.
Starting point is 00:02:49 You know, you can train it. Not really. It's just something very tired. But, yeah, I think that, first of all, Buck was great. he was really the star of the show. Star of the show of the movie, yeah. Star of the show of the movie. And he killed it.
Starting point is 00:03:07 I love the way this movie played with that perception and so many other things. But I'll give you a chance to talk. Greg, what did you think about it? It's like this movie dealt with like existentialism, belonging, your place in the world, aging, growing up. It held all these different themes about it. All of them are, I guess, encompassing maturity and what's your place in the world? as you mature you know and it's so much about growth and as you're doing a sequel I like that when they do a sequel that's about where do we take our characters now more than just do the
Starting point is 00:03:38 plot because I got such a cool plot with uncovering this fantasy land of dinosaurs because now ice age while always a fantasy you know you're never going to see a mammoth and a saber tooth and a sloth kicking it together and forming a herd however you know this still seemed like it was grounded in some type of ice age of like these are the animals that would be here and stuff and then they just completely open a can of worms here with like fantasy land of dinosaurs so they took it to another like swashbuckling level it felt like out of a different era of how they did it and i like though that how they used the plot to have a narrative for every character who was dealing with getting older and growing up and what are they missing out on in life by
Starting point is 00:04:25 by how they are growing. Is there something like, but really it's like, what do we have here right now that we should appreciate as well? I thought that was really strong to use the theme of dinosaurs of like the dinosaurs here that wants to be extinct.
Starting point is 00:04:40 Like they're in a place at a time right now as are characters in a lot of ways with Diego, you know, aging and being out of his prime and Manny having a child and Sid stealing a kid you know things like that that you do you tell him like buck
Starting point is 00:04:58 bug bug being a character um you know it's like he doesn't belong here but this is where he does belong at the same time you know and so yeah I thought like they did a really great job to have all that subtext to be going along with the fun adventure
Starting point is 00:05:14 along the way you know yeah I feel like that that theme of belonging has kind of been something that's been throughout the franchise you know even from the first movie where you know we have that kid and it's about these three kind of characters coming together and like finding that group and then the second one manny kind of doesn't have his place of belonging then ellie comes to the picture but yeah i feel like putting them in a different environment coupled with the aging thing
Starting point is 00:05:39 really only enhances and furthers that uh that theme going forward i like the way that this movie was able to kind of diversify the way these characters kind of engage with each other like seeing how Ellie and Manning's relationship grows and seeing them as a full-fledged couple going into parenthood. I liked getting to explore more of Diego and Manning's relationship as well.
Starting point is 00:06:01 And I feel the fact that the second movie had a lot of like cutaway stuff in addition to exploring relationships, but this movie was very much entirely about the characters based in their journeys and then seeing those different themes play out over the course of the movie with those different characters.
Starting point is 00:06:18 Like I like the fact that this was able to balance all those things very very well between you know what we got manny dealing with the stuff being a dad and then manny and del ego's relationship and we now have buck in the picture now we have yeah sid doing his thing and then the squirrels and whatnot and I never felt like anybody got shortchanged also kind of speaking to your point of the last movie about the what are the the possum's name do you remember no crassum one and possum there we go um I think it was a very smart idea to pair them with Buck and kind of make them like the secondaries to him because he's very much a dynamic character with like a lot of interesting backstory and presentation. And for them to pay like second fiddle and all these other characters, be you get more of the forefront.
Starting point is 00:07:07 Putting them in a more sparing comedy role makes them more palatable, I feel. And giving Sid something to do other than support, but giving him his own arc and kind of, uh, exploring that and his relationship to loss and feeling lonely and then kind of reaffirming his place within the family as we get to the end of the movie I thought was really cool because he is very much the heart of the franchise you know he's he's silly he's dumb but you know he's he's he's there for his people you know he's he wants to be the dad or he wants to be the mom with these dinosaurs but he also wants to be like the glue of his family and with everybody growing up and changing Diego getting older and manny having his own mammoth family having
Starting point is 00:07:50 that sense of of otherness or sense of not really belonging or wanting his own claim in this world, it was nice getting to see him reintegrate with his family again. That's very true. Thank you to Factor for partnering up with us yet again. Reason why is because I am already a factor customer. He's that sensitive being that is, like you have Diego and Manny who are very much not comfortable expressing their emotions, where Sid is a complete opposite of that.
Starting point is 00:09:48 He is a sensitive one. someone probably the most feminine out of the two out of the three um male characters here and this movie i thought did i said this about the last movie and i feel like they even do it more so here that it really embraces the animation medium of what they can do visually camera wise like cinematography wise and uh like editing wise as well and this time around they did a lot of like POV reliance on things. They would literally like just throw you into the POV of characters a lot of the time. Right.
Starting point is 00:10:25 There's a lot with perspective, but they had these like sweeping action tracking shots throughout that I thought just made it so much more fun. And there was like a really sharp snappiness to this experience. And I feel like even as like the plot unfolds, it's really, it's really well constructed because as a film, it's a really tight movie. at the same time there's like no there's no fat on this at all like it is it's lean and gets to the point but it's also funny and adventurous and cool I think like this one's the coolest one out of the three for sure definitely I thought this was a really funny
Starting point is 00:11:04 I thought it was a really fun time like it was funny and engaging and exciting the scrap storyline was hilarious yeah like there's only I like how they found a way to breathe new life into it and then they kept upping it as that story went because it starts off with like all right a romance where they're competing and then how they end up settling down for each other but then getting domesticated and like I want to go back to the other woman which is the nut was so funny like that they get the nut like a personality this time because the nuts never had a personality and now they gave the nut a personality I thought was so great yeah that was a really funny like it's still my favorite that's the one thing about the ice age movies that I find very
Starting point is 00:11:45 interesting because I don't know if I could watch it prior to this I was like would I want to watch an entire like 60 minutes even of scrap I'm like probably not the impact would probably be diluted over a 60 minute period
Starting point is 00:12:02 but giving him like this companion I was going I'd watch like a whole like half hour at least this is so engaging it was and I like how they seamlessly weaved it in where like the crossing of paths um was really consistent and yeah i thought that was that was a
Starting point is 00:12:21 really funny storyline that they did because it's like there's only so many gimmicks you can give him but they actually gave it a a heart and a narrative yeah yeah and it seemed like the the complex nature of his relationship with this uh this female squirrel and his nut you know because like he wants he wants love but he also loves the nut and what does he love more and then she's playing him as he's trying to decipher what he really want, then she finally gives in and just, it adds exactly. I feel like it adds new life and I feel
Starting point is 00:12:52 like there's even more levels to this we can explore in the future. Because this movie somehow finds a way of upping the ante both with its animation and with its ability to add variety to the similarity of the stakes or like adding new
Starting point is 00:13:07 dimension to those stakes. Something I really liked about this movie is like to kind of expand upon what you said about it not really having me fat is the fact that this movie is able to have its jokes but not have jokes that stop the movie jokes that play into the movie that allow it to stay funny but also relevant because I feel like the last movie had quite a few times where the movie would stop to do like a bit and then continue the story where I feel like this movie even when it did have a bit like the whole part where them like laughing on the little tram thing and buck had to go save
Starting point is 00:13:43 them even that whole aspect kind of allowed the characters to be in a vulnerable space through the laughing to kind of give an interior of where the thoughts were like how manny felt about his situation with Diego and then that kind of playing into Diego being more prevalent or being more part of their family later on I wish they would have got to explore more of that and see more riffed that relationship and but I feel like there's just a lot of stuff going on so we didn't really get to dive into it but I feel like the ultimate effect at the end was getting to that place of him feeling like he had a purpose and a place with him the family again,
Starting point is 00:14:18 which I thought was really good. Yeah, I felt like the humor who had always had like a great rhythm and emotion to the scene at hand, you know, in spite of even if it was just like a joke they wanted to throw in there. Like the cutaway bit when the buck is doing like the investigative stuff and it's got like the film real, age film reel, and like with the broccoli turning to vegetable.
Starting point is 00:14:37 Like it's such a funny bit, but it's adding to the rhythm and energy of this movie ramping up more. and more and more. And, yeah, Buck was amazing. Like, like,
Starting point is 00:14:47 it's like mischievous. You really trust him, how accurate are his stories and you find out it's all accurate. I think it's great. Yeah. And he's funny as well. So yeah,
Starting point is 00:14:56 overall, I guess this would be the, like the first ice age is, is the most simple story. So it's the most focused. Totally. But I would, I would still give it the edge to this one.
Starting point is 00:15:09 I think I would ultimately give the edge to this one. Yeah. I think for my ranking so far would probably be the second one would be in bottom place. Not by much, but I think it would probably be the least favorite. The first one and then the third one for me. Yeah, me too. So three one two. That's how I put it as well.
Starting point is 00:15:25 Yeah. I think there's one more after this. Is there? One more? Continental drift. Okay. Wow, that's a weird number to end it on four. I don't know if there's four or five.
Starting point is 00:15:35 Well, they'll let us know. Confused the hell out of me when I was researching. I know one of them like, looks like the picture was like him in space or something like that or like scrap was in space yeah i think it's continental drift oh okay i mean i hope so because and there's like mini series conno drill oh they must like drift off that makes sense continental drift in collision course that's another one is okay it's a conno drift or collision course are they so that's a movie 2012 hour 33 minutes and then this looks like it's just a scrap movie um
Starting point is 00:16:12 oh maybe and then what's like i don't even see like the main character's there okay so maybe maybe it's just collision course okay no no because they're they're both because that one came about 2016 the other one came out 2012 but is but is this like an actual ice age real sequel or is this some like side well scratch's not even in this picture but it says scrap well no one's in this picture what about the the details does it give cast information I have to imagine because the whole entire, okay, yeah, they are in there. All right, never mind.
Starting point is 00:16:49 Okay, yeah, and then like the continuum. Oh, so there's five of them. There's five of them. We had two more. Damn, really? Yeah. Yeah, they made the adventures of Buck Wild. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:16:59 I was thinking like, they probably did that because he had to have a spin-off. Oh, yeah. He's great. Yeah. Oh, and Simon Pegg returned for it, too. Nice. Oh, yeah. Oh, just just came out like two years ago.
Starting point is 00:17:10 Oh, okay. six movies technically the animation looked like it took a dip but that's probably like made for i mean i think it's probably some like yeah straight to disney plus deal yeah these are long an entire season of a show the scrap tales yeah we've talked about this many times but we didn't i thought it was like a little special i didn't know it was a whole season yeah oh damn okay measures a buck while a mammoth christmas how long is this 24 minutes okay we could squeeze that in I'm squeezing it all in Get the whole franchise
Starting point is 00:17:43 Get the whole become ice age purists This is an ice age channel I don't with the egg There's like an Easter special Egg, egg escapade 26 minutes, wow Do they all return for these? They all return for this.
Starting point is 00:17:58 Wow, this is, hey, this is what keeps the bills The sweep the lights on That's amazing This whole franchise And then we'll watch Max Keepel's big movie Afterwards right I think I vaguely remember that movie childhood yeah we'll watch it all righty gang
Starting point is 00:18:12 that's what they're here for baby thank you guys so much for being here and um if this one performs well then maybe we'll move on to high stage four yeah committed to at least three we'll see right we'll see thank you re-eject nation we'll see you got same
