Ladies and gentlemen, we're here to wrap up the Ice Age franchise with Ice Age 5.
I left a comment saying, is it worth doing?
And I'll tell you, Moose said, not really.
there was one who was like actually it's my favorite and it only took one and we've come this far
might as well wrap it up Aaron you excited for this journey I am ice warm that's what I like to
hear but I'm ready I'm doing it for you learning how to speak English ladies and gentlemen
leave a like subscribe if you want Aaron you excited I'm here okay let's do it guys
well, Aaron has very unpopular opinions today.
Apparently, he likes this more than all the other Ice Age movies outside of part three.
Sorry, I'll break it to you guys.
That's just surprising.
Aaron comes here and does.
He likes all the ones that people don't like and he dislikes all the ones that people do like.
He's a contrarian, and then he wonders why people hate him vehemently.
Bring it on.
He doesn't quite get it.
Come on.
He doesn't quite get it.
Hate me.
But here it is.
Hate me on Juneteenth.
It's okay.
This is a fun movie.
I'll defend this movie as part of the, in the Ice Age franchise.
I don't totally defend this one.
It's okay.
I think it's great.
I loved it.
I loved it.
Thinking back, okay, so right at the bat, I'll probably put a three, five, two, one, four.
That's how I'd rank the Ice Age movies.
This is a lot of fun.
This was weird.
And I thought that they changed up the franchise in a way that brought new life into it
by adding some diversity with even says science fiction in this one, which is crazy because
none of the other ones are sci-fi, but they're like, how we're going to up the ante will still
maintaining the heart of what we know the Ice Age franchise to be, because I feel like that's
the thing that really makes this whole thing is the fact that we have family, and it started
off as found family, then it became literal family, and then on the top of that became a literal
family with everybody having their respective love of interests, and it just really worked.
Granted, I don't think everybody got the time that they deserved, but I think the way that they
up the animation style, up the comedy from the last one as well, I think the way that they were
able to tell a interesting story while having it be very funny and having it deal with these
themes and the elevation of these themes that we've explored in the previous movies.
I just think it was great overall, you know?
I like the fact that it's able to have its juvenile or more innocent humor while also allowing the franchise to mature and allowing our characters to mature because, yeah, this was a return to form in the sense that the last one was very much a kid's movie that had like some things that adults could enjoy, but this was very much a family movie bringing it back to what we all like about Ice Age.
And I'm surprised that this one doesn't get as much love because this was great.
this was so much fun buck bring back was incredible because he's so much fun bring so much life
you know the whole thing with manny's family and and buck kind of really drove the story and
everyone else was kind of like more of the background i would have loved to see him Diego get more
stuff to do and have him be more integral to the plot but yeah just old hey he's he's going to be
a dad one day maybe the the next one and i'm wondering how they're going to up the ante because
you know that we're getting granny out of the franchise and all she's back because everyone's
young again um yeah i'm excited to see if they ever do a next one i don't know if they
was what's been what like almost 10 years eight years now yeah's for a while yeah i uh i very
much enjoyed it Greg what'd you think uh dude yeah man for sure i'm right there with you on all
accounts those are all great uh solid opinions and thoughts and uh couldn't have said it any better
myself you said things well
did i take it all well i take all the thoughts no man
you only taught for a woman in 33 seconds wow
yeah it's concise
that's very concise
sure that's the right word there
concise
concise is that how it says it's just concise
there's a concise i don't know i don't know i mean i didn't
study english that shows in the way you talk i didn't
talk i didn't go to talc
talk what is that one
it's the correct pronunciation
in the Latin word for talk.
Are you D-Sing right now?
Is that real?
No, it's real.
Talc.
Is that how the British say it?
No, it's not the British.
Latin.
Latin.
Talc.
Talc.
Why don't you say it like that?
Sure at all.
I would have bought you.
I would have believed you if you just stuck with it.
Yeah, I kind of walked away from this movie sort of going.
I wonder why people really don't like this one.
Because it's not just that we have low expectations.
And then we, as I really didn't want to watch this.
I'll tell you.
I didn't now want to watch this one today.
Like, even if you watched our reaction before, I went in, right before the reaction happened, I said that something tells me this is not a great one just because people are, no one's talking about it.
And so I get the impression that's not really a good one.
And while it started off fine, I progressively found it to be a bit of a chore to watch.
Whereas this one, I thought, started off really good.
kind of waiting for the other foot to drop the entire,
or the shoe to drop the entire time.
And I thought it maintained what it was setting out to do from beginning to end.
Like it, it, it, so instead of, like, finding, like, what's good about it?
I found myself going, what is it that people really don't like about it?
The only thing I can really conclude is that, yeah, it's not really as solely
focused on our trio, like the other ones sort of aim to do.
And at the same time, it is such a departure from what has come before in terms of
its genre that it is so wild that is so zany and but i feel like it's so committed to that
while keeping the the character-driven narrative was primarily manny and his whole thing with
the son-in-law as as something to serve a little bit more for the heartfelt side of things so while
there's a lot going on uh i thought they executed it in a way where i did sort of like the cacophony of
things i did like how insane and rapid and zigzaggy everything became because i thought they were
committed to the new voice that they were establishing yeah versus you know just hitting like
outline notes or perfunctory notes like it never felt perfunctory like i actually felt that they
went creative with this and they did i'm totally forgetting the name of the nil the grass
dyson show right now what is that universe show damn it i've seen a few of the episodes uh it's that's what
they were making, especially at the very end
when he's like, because that's how it starts off.
He's like, the episode's software
he's like talking to the camera
and there's stuff going on in the background.
What is that show called?
It's such an aliens.
No, it's the super fit.
The universe.
God, what is that show called?
Universe with Neil deGrasse-Nehle-Degress-Tis.
Because it's a, he did, he's, he,
it was an original show and then
he did the remake one.
What is that show?
Cosmos.
Cosmos. God damn it.
Yeah, Cosmos.
Yeah.
And I like, I like the, they clearly had the, the cosmos inspiration there.
And then what they did was Scrat having his complete side adventure where they really embraced the sci-fi side of him and this like contained bottle of him in a spaceship the entire time and watching the physicality.
And Scrat is again, even in part four, I thought Scrat was really funny.
And they still managed to go so, like his flesh comes off at one point, you know.
It's just the skeleton.
They go so crazy here in a way where, again, the word is that beyond committed,
it felt genuine in the approach that they were actually taking versus just dishing out
another Ice Age movie for the sake of dishing out another Ice Age movie.
I felt like the director, the way how, I wouldn't put, no near put it on par with like
Ninja Turtles or Spider-Verse, but the way how the direction of those movies have a voice,
I felt like this movie had a voice via its direction as well.
So, yeah, I mean, like, I wouldn't personally rank it as high as you're ranking it.
Like, I would definitely, this would probably be third for me out of the five.
Okay.
Like, I would say three, like, I really just think one is very focused, and I love the heart of one the most.
So I would say, like, but, you know, I feel like as a movie, I would say three, one, then this one.
And I would put it above two, definitely part two, and I put it for sure above four.
Like, four is probably the only one of these five that I don't like.
Yeah.
Whereas this one, I'm like, no, I actually really like this one a lot.
And I'm so surprised by how much I liked it because I, like I said, I can't wait for the other shoe to drop.
But even as they, because the movie never stopped leveling up.
No.
You know, it just kept getting weirder.
And it doesn't like, it doesn't like start weird.
and then it just becomes a stagnant line.
Like towards the end, they, like, go into, like, Crystal Geo City.
And they have, like, different animals, and this woman falls in love with freaking Cid.
It's just, like, it keeps getting, like, this snowball effect just doesn't stop.
And I love that.
I love how creative they were, too, just how weirder can we get about this?
Instead of, like, let's start off weird and then become mundane.
they they kept it going uh to and i like how they had like actual science terminology yeah you know
that they kept infusing and with with bucks like craziness to it so yeah like there's not much
of a diego presence Diego jennifer lopez is cat don't even her name but of jennifer
lopez not really much of a presence and um you know sit it's been relegated to this side
punchline for since like part two he's been relegated to that and uh this is
been like manny's movie this whole time but i thought it was really good yeah man manny is
definitely the heart of it and i like that it's able to up the ante while maintaining that that heart
and i think the thing i said during the reaction itself was the fact that we had that whole thing
about manny being protective over his over peaches in part four but he was gone most of the
narrative and then just resolved that and like a quick wrap up at the end and i feel like the
fact that we had our ensemble and our additional characters with them the entire time only
allowed for that whole story to play out more consistently and more heartfelt overall i think the
fact that we got to see them be and we got to endear ourselves to peaches as husband or or
fiance or whatever uh only added to that yeah and the fact that we were able to see these other
characters, granted not Diego, but see the other characters kind of along the ride really made
that experience more fun as well. I just think that this movie really does a good job at one,
you kind of said something earlier, but like, um, I said a lot of things, said a lot of things
earlier, but change. Yeah, I think you said like letting go or like, or releasing power. I think it
does a good job of, um, allowing us to embrace change, you know, from the fact that, you know,
he had to let his daughter go to
like them letting the crystals go
and then
I guess Scrat never embraces change
because he's always like hunting that nut
and then you know I guess
Diego and then one and
it's mainly the two things right there
and then you know them going on this perilous journey
because the other ones were like okay we got to save Sid
or we got to get back to our land
or we got to migrate to find new land
but the fact that like we're literally going to save the world right now
It was just the craziest plot that this place could possibly go to.
Yeah, so I feel like the first movie was more of like trying to go for.
What was the world really like, you know?
Yeah.
And then by the time I got to three, they were like, let's just start making this our own world.
Right.
And then here they just went buck wild and let them just become their.
They just embraced exactly what I think they always sort of wanted.
Like this was not restrained, you know.
No, yeah.
Yeah.
It was unrestrained and up the ante without losing the plot, like, literally.
Because the last one, they were up in the ante shore, but all of the hard end, the reason why we cared was out of the window.
But they find a way to marry those two things.
They're just kind of loud.
They're just kind of loud.
Yeah.
It was like, all right, I guess we got this pirate thing and, like, he somehow found the family and that were in danger.
I made an association with that movie.
It was a lot of it.
Yeah.
Yeah, it felt like the perfect marriage between, like, producer notes and actual storytelling.
Because I imagine, like, the pitch for this movie, like, all, let's do Ice Age, but, like, with space and sci-fi.
And then we find, like, the actual people, like, okay, no, let's bring the heart into it to take what the producers wanted and then infuse that into the story overall.
And the fact that we were able to do that, and I wish there would have been more 3D elements into the movie, because I feel like that one scene where Buck was, we were reintroduced to him.
and like it's like the whole one track shot of him with like the egg and like a musical number
i thought that stuff was great i would have loved to see more of that kind of visual language on
display but you know i think that that that just added to the experience of it i would have
like to yeah play with that a little bit more uh i think that that would have added i'm just repeating
myself but uh what else what else when it was there the direction when it was there that i think
like the cinematography of it was really solid i thought they had a lot
lot of great like they a lot of these ice stage movies are shot like kind of up close and then this
one they actually shoot it in a wider frame so you you get more scope totally and yeah what
that's crazy it's got like terrible reviews this feels like a review bomb no it's got 39% audience
score uh yeah i i i don't they hate it i don't i i want to look at the audience reviews i'm like
i don't understand why um is this rated worse than the last one this is the
worst rated one in the audience
I'm so surprised
the critics hate it too that doesn't make sense
I mean of course the critics hate it but the
critics don't like the ice hit movies
um
no potty humor
unfunny uh what okay I guess
I guess the humor of wasn't jiving with you
I don't know I thought that was the other thing I was like I thought the
movie stayed consistently funny
it's yeah I thought it was very
very like I was surprised by how
every joke's gonna land but I was surprised by how
funny the movie
mained up until the very end of the movie i agree it's a good enough movie it seems like the thing
that is like bothering people the most is like the humor did not actually um really click with people
that seems to be the main thing i keep catching here and then a lot of the big ratings are like
i don't know why people hate this movie yeah yeah arguably the worst in their franchise cap no way
wanna sikes was funny in this movie come on why did uh some people are not a fan of buck being in
this one either. Fuck is great. He's the best
part. He's missing from four and that's why
that one sucked largely. Yeah, I like
this one quite a bit. I really
like this one a lot. I'm kind of surprised.
I also like the use of color in this movie.
It was very diverse and it popped.
Yeah, man. Cute but a little boring.
What I cannot
pinpoint what the hell people have. It's wrong
with this movie. Where is the creativity? This is like
one of the most creative ones.
It's oozing of creativity.
Y'all are tripping, man.
I don't know, but we're definitely in the minority,
because even in the comments for the last one,
a lot of people were like,
don't cover this one.
I'm like, oh, what?
Yeah, so we're in the minority here.
That's insane.
I feel like those people didn't watch this one,
because this one was fun.
And it's not because I thought like this was,
I thought the fourth one was going to be bad,
and I didn't like that one.
And then I thought this would be worse.
And I was like, I actually like this one a lot.
I like this one, like genuinely like it.
And I kept scratching my head going, what's wrong with this one exactly?
So, yeah.
All righty, guys.
Well, that's it for the Ice Age franchise.
We're not going to do that Buck movie.
I'm just saying right now.
That's not happening.
Don't ask us.
It's not on the table.
We're not doing it.
All right.
It sounds very tedious to me.
But this one was good.
Yeah, I like this one.
I know, but no, I think we're watching the Ice Age ones.
All right?
I was going to stop at three.
We've come this far.
We did.
We've got to do Descendants with Terror now.
Ooh.
You seen those movies?
No.
I saw the first one.
It's pretty bomb.
Oh, okay.
Yeah, it's a pretty good movie.
Wow.
Exciting.
All right, guys, well, what did you think about this one?
Honestly, do you like it?
I thought this was really good.
It was great, too.
So leave your thoughts down below.
Be sure subscribe.
Leave a like.
And thanks for joining Aaron and I on this Ice Age Journey.
I'm glad we could finally watch this franchise.
Another one off the bucket list.
This is what my bucket list consists of.
Not traveling, not skydiving, not helping build orphanages or something.
It's watching movies that I have to catch up on before I die.
That's my bucket list.
Andrew Hayes.
You know what, celebrity, you remind us the most of Danny DeVito.
There's only one option.
I guess there were two options.
Danny DeVito is the better.
Who's the other one?
Fern Troir.
No, no, no, no.
That's mean.
Danny DeVito is not legally there, but he's almost...
It's an honor to be like a legal little person.
He's just really tiny, like Andrew Hayes.
Yeah, he's a tiny, tiny.
He's an East Coast, loud, boisterous guy.
Short person, just like Andrew Hayes.
You know, it's like, you're tiny and you're a little stocky, but you got a big ball of energy.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
You're just like Danny DeVito.
And you're wrapped up in all the different facets of, you know, cinema.
You know, you're out here.
You've directed stuff.
You've acted in stuff.
You know, you watch tons of movies.
For a second, I thought you were shot out of Danny DeVito, but you were, yeah, actually
Shadden and Andrew Hayes.
Andrew Hayes is also a multi-hyphen.
And I bet they both eat at Jersey Mikes.
Yeah.
I bet they both eat in Jersey mics.
You also try to kill McCulley Colkin by breaking into Lockton.
Oh, wait, that's so much.
You're all so funny.
And, like, a clown.
to us certainly
he could be Joe Fetchie
I feel like Dan DeVito
and Joe Pesche is a little tall
he's probably a little tall
in Jay DeVito. Pick which
one you like more. Which are where you are
Joe Pashy's actually a pretty good
favorite. It's a pretty good one. It's probably more
accurate in their voices. You've evolved
from Danny DeVito. You've grown
into Joe Petching
over the shadow, man. Yeah, absolutely.
Oh my God.
And now you're scary a little bit
now that I'm thinking of you that way. See the thing is
like, I'm not scared of Danny DeVito, but I am scared of Joe Pesh.
Uh-huh.
You know?
Even though, you know, he does at times every once in a while display some kind of like
tender familial energy.
Very true.
But never without that sense that he could smack you upside the head at any moment with
one of his big gold rings.
Oh, absolutely.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Anyway, Andrew Hayes.
Thanks for being you.
We love you.
