Episode Date: April 2, 2026

Gregory Alba and Roxy Striar dive deeper into the Théâtre des Vampires as the mystery, manipulation, and mind games escalate, bringing you their Interview with the Vampire Season 2 Episode 3 reactio...n, recap, commentary, breakdown, analysis, and full review!! This episode dives deep into Armand’s (Assad Zaman – Hotel Portofino, Apple Tree Yard) past and his complicated connection to Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid – The Newsreader, Belle), revealing how obsession, power, and manipulation shaped the Théâtre des Vampires. Through Armand’s retelling, we see the origins of his fascination with Lestat — from his defiance of vampire laws to the dangerous allure that destabilized the entire coven. As noted in the reaction, Lestat’s presence alone “breeds obsession,” completely shifting the balance of power . What's good, good, about this episode? How'd you feel? You seem, this one didn't seem to do it for you as heavy. Am I sensing that correctly?
Starting point is 00:03:37 I thought. This was a really good episode. Oh, good. Good. So how'd you feel? What'd you like? Why'd you sense that? Maybe it's just like tired.
Starting point is 00:03:45 I'm not tired. You're tired. I'm Lestat. Go to hell. Yeah. Well, we're both there in this episode. Are you happy that we got Lestat back in some capacity? Yes.
Starting point is 00:03:59 Are you happy? Yeah, I am. I am curious where he is. And like, I don't know. I can't tell whether this show wants us to want Armand and Louis together. Because I don't. Do you? No.
Starting point is 00:04:16 Do you think the show wants us to? I think we're supposed to feel a little torn. Okay. But I don't. I'm just waiting for the stat to come back in some fascinating. I know, me too. How do you feel about that? I like Armand.
Starting point is 00:04:29 This episode made me like him. I like him in the past. I don't like him in the present. I think in the present he's kind of boring. Like in the interviews? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:39 I don't like their dynamic. the present. They're just not as interesting to me. What do you like about him in the past? The sullid attitude, the sadness, the, the fact that he was like a coven leader, but completely apathetic about it, the shared trauma over the stat. Did you like him with the stat? I did.
Starting point is 00:05:04 I kind of did too. It's not, that's not what you said when we were watching it. What did I said? You said you earned into it. Something along those lines. Well, I guess I just think he had more chemistry with LaStat than he does with Louis. Yeah. Well, I think LaStat just brings that out of everyone.
Starting point is 00:05:21 Yeah, everyone's got chemistry with the stat. He goes everyone, they gets obsessed with the stat. So yeah, I liked them a lot more in this episode. And I was really drawn to what might happen at the end there, like if he was going to burn the whole thing down. But we saw in the newspaper there's a fire. And he can make fire. Yeah. I don't know when that.
Starting point is 00:05:42 if that aligns but we also like I have no semblance of an idea of when Claudia is no longer well yeah that's what I'd be it's like I thought we wanted to see the death of her this episode and also um the way this episode was shot too I love it's like unique camera angles that it did like when when I went into Lestat interrupting their time at the jazz bar it's like disoriented POV shots or when they go behind the curtain kill there's a lot more like interesting camera techniques that I think they do here where they're having a lot more fun but this was I was very compelled by by the uh interruption here of armand in a way that was not as interesting in the prior to episodes like the coven was more interesting than armand but armand
Starting point is 00:06:27 himself is a presence that I'm starting to I believe the power he has in the past in the in the present he just seems like a weasel I'm curious who he put in the walls that was Santiago's maker I want to know more about that story there because he's seems like him and Santiago have some tension and I love Santiago. I'm so much more interesting your thoughts on everything though honestly. I don't want to really hear my thoughts. Why? Because I'm bored of myself.
Starting point is 00:06:53 I want to hear about your thoughts and your feelings. I'm dead serious. What do you want to know about? I'll just say stuff that you haven't said once you get everything you want to hear. You want to say out. What do you want to know about? I want to know. Will you show me?
Starting point is 00:07:07 I want to know about these strangers like me. Where are you truly at with Armand here? Okay. Are you liking the season overall? I really miss having Louis and Lestat be the season, but I really am engaged in the Claudia storyline and having her have that family in that coven and also I'm a theater nerd, so I like that aspect.
Starting point is 00:07:36 So yeah, I am liking the season. It's not as strong as season one was for me to this point, but we're only three episodes in and we're doing a lot of laying groundwork. I'm having a hard time figuring out the Armand thing because it feels like he's here to stay and I kind of feel like they're like, get on board, but I'm just not. And I, yeah, I feel the same way that Daniel feels all the time. Like, you guys, like, what clearly list that and Louis were the ones in love. And like, also Daniel in this episode, even though when he was covering for what he's doing,
Starting point is 00:08:07 he's like, where's Claudia right now? It's kind of like, can somebody answer where's Claudia? Like, what is going on? So, yeah, I liked it. I liked this episode. Maybe I was projecting on you. I liked this episode, but I didn't like it as much as last week's episode, I think. When we learned about the plays and the theater and all of this, it had more shock value.
Starting point is 00:08:28 And this one, it felt more like the romance of, but not Lestat and Louis. Also, hearing about the Bruce storyline was very upsetting. and we already knew about it, obviously, but her opening up and giving him details. And then Louis deciding to not tell Claudia the truth. It's kind of just like, oh, man, for real dog, like you're going to definitely cause some issues here, which you kept saying, like, you're setting her up for failure.
Starting point is 00:08:53 Yeah. Which definitely is. I like the discovery of last week, but I honestly think I like this episode more than last week. I got that. There was like an emotional intensity. And there's more of the death. there is more at that which is always a delight but even towards the end there like i was really
Starting point is 00:09:11 pulled into what's about to happen you know i i felt the suspense and the tension of everything that was cascading and i got really pulled into like what choice is armand going to make here i feel like next week will be gangbusters because of that yeah because we don't know what armand's going inside but is he going to burn the building is he going to what is he is he going to leave with louis i know you feel to think he definitely chooses Louis over the coven, but I don't know. I think he does. I think this episode illustrates kind of a false sense of power that Armand projects. I feel like it comes down to the mirroring of when he's talking to Lestat at the play.
Starting point is 00:09:52 He's in the Taya above balcony. He's like, my child, but clearly Lestat, in the Lestat way, manages to hold the emotional power over Armand. And then when he's talking with Santiago and he's on the top of the... the balcony again while he's having an inner mind conversation while the guy's just doing his lines santiago in that moment seems to be holding the power again over armand so i think armand is constantly not this episode showed me that i think all those feelings are like he's kind of a weasel he's not really like the power guy i think this episode was kind of maybe i'm totally interpreting it wrong i i got the impression that he's not really as powerful as he thinks he he is like that
Starting point is 00:10:35 But that scene with the Lestat thing. Well, La Statt thing. Oh, yeah, I mean, he's got a physical sense of power, but he immediately,
Starting point is 00:10:41 he starts to lose it rather quick. Yeah. In terms of, like, the, the emotional hold that Lestat can do over someone. Yeah. Well,
Starting point is 00:10:49 I do think one of the things that the show is playing with and is setting us up for is, even in this episode, Santiago, specifically asks, Claudia, what powers did your maker give you?
Starting point is 00:11:01 Yeah. And we also see that Armand has powers, has powers that Lestat hadn't come across. And we know that Santiago can fly and certain vamps can fly. And then we also saw that thing with the eye twitching. So I don't know that we've seen the extent of all the kind of powers that vampires can have. And that's why I just keep thinking there's some kind of compulsion aspect going on with Armand and Louis. Like Armand has something over Louis, which is why we're feeling this fakeness, this sense of whatever, whether it's like,
Starting point is 00:11:33 because he's threatening Claudius still or he has something over him or he has an ability to control or mind like something. It seems like there are more powers than have been introduced or that are on the table yet. That's true. Or not. You don't know. Are you compelled by that? The power of Christ compels you.
Starting point is 00:11:56 It does. There's a lot of anti. There's a lot of going against organized religion. As somebody who's gone against organized religion, how do you feel about that? It's eye opening. I like it. Yeah. It's telling.
Starting point is 00:12:13 I was a very dedicated Catholic boy. I've cried over God. Can you believe that? I can believe it. I do like that vampires were all kind of of different beliefs about God and not, you know, that they don't know either fully. Yeah, well, I like the manipulation at that top there, the shame. That's a very Catholic kind of, I don't know if they're going for Catholic. That is very like Christian-oriented type of weight is like, well, we are the embodiment of sin.
Starting point is 00:12:41 We serve God through Satan. Yeah. I love that. It's so twisted. But even right there, like he surrenders the loss of the coven to Lestat early on. But he kind of claims that he brought him in to do it on purpose. He's like, yeah, Lestat was just voicing thoughts that I had for half of a century. Because he wasn't strong enough to do it.
Starting point is 00:13:03 That's what I mean. Armand's not as strong. Or he didn't even think it when he brought him in. It was just bullshit. Yeah, one of the two. Daniel's little journey. What are your thoughts, Roxy? On Daniel.
Starting point is 00:13:13 Daniel and this RJ guy. I would like to know more. I like giving Daniel more to do because he really is one of my favorite characters on the show. And so we've heard about how his wife left him. We know about his disease. We've gotten these bits and pieces. We know he was in San Francisco. We know he had that bite immediately.
Starting point is 00:13:34 So I like to give his characters more to do what this is. I don't really know. And I want sushi. I understand, man. About the sushi? Yeah. Daniel. And the sushi look very appetizing.
Starting point is 00:13:47 You don't do it anymore, do you? I do not. But I can go for some brown rice 365 cereal from Whole Foods right now. Maybe half a cup. Avocado and brown rice cereal. Yeah, that makes it sushi. No, it doesn't. I had avocado earlier.
Starting point is 00:14:06 With what? Sourdough bread and eggs. It's almost sushi. It's like the yolk. Oh my God, it's so good. We don't have any questions from the patrons for this one. No, there was an error that occurred in the scheduling where they said there's questions out for two by four. That was a mistake.
Starting point is 00:14:24 It should have been for two by three. So if we read your questions for two by four, we will get spoiled. You're spoiled so we cannot. So there are no questions today. Yeah. It really votes well for us since we have to go somewhere today. I do read all the comments. Are they hating you?
Starting point is 00:14:39 No, they've been so lovely to us. But somebody this week in the comments was like, I'm worried they're going to get spoiled in the comments. I, like, read for Greg and Roxy. I read for our names or, like, little short things. Anything that has a chunk, I don't, I'll, like, read the first line. But I never, I haven't gotten one spoiler from this show because I kind of know how to scan and make sure that I'm not, like,
Starting point is 00:15:00 reading about the show. So just write nice things. Don't spoil things in the comments. Most of you guys don't. But in general, nothing's been spoiled for me. And they seem to be really kind about us and they like us. So I like them too. I like all of you.
Starting point is 00:15:19 We love the rejects over here, Reject Nation. All right, Greg, let's get out of here. Go to our event. If you want to know what the event is, follow us on effing social media and you'll see it over there. Okay. Anything else? Yeah, we're the most tan people here. Look at us.
Starting point is 00:15:34 Look at us. Look at us. Yeah, we're very not vampy. Look at the... I know. Look how... Look how tan we are? I go running in the sun now.
Starting point is 00:15:43 How can I be Lestat like this? Although he did have like rosy cheeks in today's air. Your hair. Yeah, but it's now kind of brown. I need it to be blonded again. Yeah, but the way it falls... I want to go blonde again. The way of parts and falls.
Starting point is 00:15:54 I could just see it if we paled you up. I think I'm going to go blonde. Why? I miss it. Okay. Whatever makes you happy. Lestat makes me miss it. I'm going to shave my head again.
Starting point is 00:16:03 Oh. Roxy really didn't like. No, that's not true. Whatever makes you happy. Yeah. I just think the curls are so great. We'll see. Whatever makes Olivia happy is actually the truth.
Starting point is 00:16:14 Who gives a shit what makes you happy? She doesn't like when I lose weight and she doesn't like my hairs. Does she not like when you lose weight because you're hangary or because she doesn't like the way it looks? She doesn't like the way it looks. Oh. I'm team Olivia. All right. Later rejects.
