Citizens of the Reject Nation, we are back for Invincible Season 2, Part 2, Episode 1. Invincible Season 2.
two, episode five, rejoined by Aaron Alexander, who I've been covering this show with since day
one. Aaron, you excited, my friend, and continue this journey? I am so excited. I've been
watching the whole dang show over again so I can be freshed up and memorized for this
here shoot today. That's what I like to hear. I'm ready to do this, Aaron. You ready?
Yes, sir.
Holy shit. Oh, wow. What a great episode.
top to bottom man yeah this was a really cathartic surprise and it was rewarding i thought from top
to bottom a very rewarding experience because it just kept escalating my biggest the biggest surprise for
me was what they one of the things that i think uh i respected the most was with the lizard people
because they were there in the in the first uh the last season they were briefly there and even when they
got introduced here i was like you guys just seemed so boring yeah sometimes they like cut to these
kind of characters uh where they have like the guardians to like fight them and like they're
they're like semi cool to look at and they're kind of just there to show some development of them
fighting like that's what they have to do they have to fight these characters and my mind was instantly
going to why are we wasting our time with this we have like so many things set up we have you know
omni man we have the village from i war we got them in space we got the the multiverse guy who we led
this with we got all these things happening what what are these guys here and and then when it started
going into action i was uh surprised by wow they just killed off a couple of them uh when it seemed
like they should have the easiest time uh it was violent they escalated the threat of them
instantaneously some of the deaths of it were surprising like duplicate in the last season i think
it was just like the the fourth episode maybe was it when and she was talking about why she went
with Immortal because he was the only one
who could understand how many times she's died.
Yeah, that was the last episode.
And to have that conversation in your prior episode,
and then to make one of your essentially characters
who you might easily look at and you know their life
is not infinite,
but because of the amount of times they stick around
and you see them,
you're so used to watching their clones or duplicates dying
that you kind of associate them as infinite.
It's in to kill them off.
It does do something on,
I think on a subconscious level that escalates the threat of them and then the stakes.
And then as they've been humanizing Rex as well, I know it's like probably everyone's thinking
about like the filter might guy and baby, but to me, I'm like, oh, that's one of the coolest
things I love about this show is when they can surprise you in a way with something I don't
really care about at first. And then they make you to be, wow, I'm really invested in this.
And I'm like, oh, I'm actually rooting for Rex.
Who's kind of just funny. And this time, like, oh, I'm rooting for him.
Now, but yeah, now there's so many other things to touch on here.
Aaron, what's one of the takeaways you have?
Oh, man, I thought it was great.
Watching this immediately coming after rewatching season one and the first half of season two
after not watching it for like a year plus and like some months really taught me like how
clever this show is.
I already knew it was clever, but like it's more smart than I thought it was in the sense
that everything that happens that's not related to like the major plot but it seems like a subplot
it's either doing one of two things or both it's setting up something for later whether it'd be
like a villain or a plot point or it's furthering the character development of the people that
were following and this like how we're talking about with the lizard league that's very much
what was happening with the rex here and what was happening with mark when we did like stuff like
Doc Seismic or D.A. Sinclair.
So watching this stuff really just adds to that.
And yeah, even the stuff with what's going on on the ship right now is also adding to their
character development.
We're not sure to what end as of yet, but obviously this show has multiple layers to it.
And we still don't know why.
What's his name?
Sterling Kay Brown's character, the multiverse dude, is going to come back.
that's going to come back in a big way on the next few episodes here.
The thing I like about this show the most is it's attention to the details.
You know, it'll set things up like very slyly, very slowly.
The whole thing we're watching right now with the Martians, that was like teased very
smally in like episode, I want to say two or three of season one.
Even the shapeshifter, the new Martian man, he didn't have any lines in season one, but he was just very slowly teased, very smallly teased with him just like moving the American flag into the proper place.
And that stuff was great.
I really like the continued time we're giving to Debbie and the supporting characters because, yeah, it's invincible isn't just about Mark.
It's about everybody here.
It's about the Guardian.
It's about Adam Eve.
It's about Cecil.
It's about Donald.
Donald.
And, you know, his fears, I'm very excited to see where that goes because he's just
having this revelation of I'm not who I thought I was or I'm not existing how I thought
I was existing.
Even the organization I work for, that's known for having secrets, have their secrets.
Playing to me, because I don't even, because I don't even, because.
watching it recently seeing that the he couldn't see the white room that was due to
they're like being like fluoride in the water like some chemical in the water were that's uh
affecting everybody on earth so uh has like this special light that blocks them from seeing what
happens inside of that room so they gave donald something to block him from seeing that
because the fact that he works there and can't see it is kind of crazy and yeah i just like
the development of where we're going you know i know that uh
watching the first couple episodes of the season.
Like, we're like, okay, like, this is good.
It's like a little slow.
Like, where's Omni Man?
But they found ways to build around that and find new threats to continue to make
the show more interesting because it starts from a foundation of character.
And because of that, we're able to build things that make us invest in the plots of what's going on.
And also the stuff with Alan, like we haven't spent a lot of time with him,
but I'm excited to see where that's going.
And I think those are very clever gamble that Optimus Prime.
What's his name?
I don't know the character's name.
I thought that was very clever.
What he did was taking the gamble on the fact that he didn't know if he would survive.
But because his race, Allen's race of people, built him in a two to be the ultimate warrior,
that he had this healing factor.
He banked on that fact.
So he could in turn have him recruit Mark to join the coalition.
to fight against the Vilder Mines, which I thought was super dope.
And also a hilarious reveal because all the Viltramites have mustaches for some reason.
And I don't know the lower reason for that, but I think that's great and hilarious.
So I'm very much enjoying this.
We're only, what, six episodes in?
No, five episodes in.
And yeah, it just continues to escalate the stakes just like season one.
So I'll look forward to seeing what's going to happen next.
Yeah, I think this show is dealing a lot with, it has like existential dread tone to it.
There's a sense of, a constant sense of melancholy that permeates through everything.
And I think decisions that are made can be very surprising.
Like with Thaddeus, that's the optimist crime.
Peter Korn.
That is.
With his character, it really seemed like the big reveal was that he's in the informant.
And he's the one, he's trying to kill Al.
I'm like, that's so clever, I think from a producing.
standpoint and a storytelling standpoint because that is such a surprise you think that it's going to be
this huge build up with that and they completely veered you into a different direction i'm just excited at
the thought of like peter the voice of peter calling getting to voice a a viltramite i think it's an
like an excellent prospect to behold but then no so these questions of humanity in life that
you can see sprinkled in when it comes to having the baby around and
And having to separate yourself of like the nature versus nurtured.
There's so much about there where we keep the people are questioned or suspected.
Like pre-judgment is like often cast, especially with the role that, you know, Mark has to play that.
And while when watching it, we were both Aaron and I were like, I thought there'd be a little bit more of a struggle when it comes to Debbie with the baby.
but it also kind of just goes to show more of her humanity and empathy that just because
this is Nolan's baby she I'm kind of back and forth in it part of me it really loves the choice
that she doesn't seem at all like she was resentful towards the situation and shock and dealing
with the ramifications of the revelation but she wasn't um they didn't have like that moment
or she's like looking at the kid you know just like taking care of
care of the kids and it seems to really bond with the kid as well but there there is a constant
nuance throughout like and what they're doing with donald to kind of just to hammer home that
point even more so that of that existentialism is a very fascinating subject like even when you think
of like the muller twins as these clones where the i never really thought of invincible in that in that
aspect that there's a series as a show that deals with that and i feel like thematically that's so much
what this entire show is really all about you know like what is the point of life in so many ways
watching omneman's change after being on earth for so long and conquering other planets and
it goes to this one planet and look how we perceive life now and those then we were talking about
how those i forget the names of every specific creature or character but the bugs the bug people
Fraxins. Thraxins.
Threxins.
They have how they most likely appreciate life because of the brevity of life that they have,
that it puts things into a perspective where they just naturally have a more gratitude way
and a better perspective and don't waste their time on the little things with emotions
that can get in the way of being in the present moment.
And for Omneman to be influenced by that way of society makes more sense to be influenced by
the society about human beings tend to react to life.
So I think there's just so many great elements of choice and consequences,
purpose.
A lot of the things that I think superhero narratives usually touch on,
but in ways here that I just find a little more interesting than most,
like I really do think this is arguably the best superhero show.
have said that before and I do I do consider that.
The only part is sometimes if I had to give a nitpick with this show is sometimes I do
think that they throw in one too many jokes when they don't need to.
Like sometimes it's like, yeah, it's kind of fun.
Sometimes it's hilarious, but sometimes it I'll notice like, yeah, it's, yeah, I get it.
Like this character jokes around or whatever, but there are times where I'm like, you kind
of like dial it back a tiny bit.
It was because I've found that this show itself has been very, it's evolving.
It's maturing.
When it was already a very mature show, it's maturing even more.
Like they take this time to be somber and patient and more introspective.
And that's when I feel like season two has been exceptionally shining, not just due to my own personal preferences.
It just seems like that's where the creatives are most interested in telling their story right now.
Yeah.
And then other times I do think that.
Although in this episode, like with Rex and being all jovial and stuff,
and to put you in the mindset of,
there's no stakes to this thing with the lizard people,
then, oh my God,
there's like all the stakes of the lyrics.
But I think that's because of the jokes.
So, I mean, it's very minor.
It's only like moments when it happens.
It's not an overall thing.
But yeah, I think it's a great, great freaking episode.
I don't, it's like the main things, right?
Adam's like, back in the field.
She's back in the field.
Fast in the field.
Fast in the field.
Fast back in there.
It's like, out of work for like a day.
Yeah.
Citizens of the Reject Nation, or should I say Royal Reject, because that is who we call
those who check out our RR apparel at RejectNation Shop.com.
We come out with new designs every month or every two months.
It is personally my favorite way you can support the channel.
Reason being is because we are involved with every one of the exclusive RR designs that are
up at the shop.
Every month it's been growing every month.
getting more and more royal rejects, and I really love to hear how people are finding the shirts
to not just be cool looking, but also fit nicely and feel comfortable. I cared about that more
than anything else. I'm a hairy guy, so I'm really like sensitive of the fabric. We got a bunch of
designs already, such as our Super Marvel bro shirt. My sister actually designed this one.
Deadpool Wolverine inspired, my personal favorite one. But then we also got our number one bestseller,
The Last Daddy T-shirt, which has Pedro Pascal from The Last of Us inspired carrying baby
Grogo. We have Loki's glorious balloon. We also have our Doctor Who shirt, which is full of a bunch of
classic Doctor Who quotes on the Tartis. We have Space Babies of the Galaxy. We got ourselves some
Star Wars-inspired shirts. We got a boys-inspired shirt. And we have a House of the Dragon one as well,
pointing those out because obviously we have new seasons of those shows coming up. And then, of course,
you got a bunch of other designs as well, like our Batverse one. Who influences the
influencers? Another Last of Us inspired t-shirt.
Of course, you know, the classic Reject Symbolism T-shirts as well.
Either one is an amazing way to support the channel.
And like I said, you get to look good while doing it.
So thank you guys so much.
Do consider going to Rejectnationshop.com.
And also, tag us on social media.
If you end up buying a shirt, please tag us.
We'd love to see it when people do end up buying the shirts.
Thank you, Royal Rejects.
See you guys soon.
I'll say just like to quickly add to what you're talking about with Rex.
I kind of like that there's humor with.
him specifically. I think like the most humorous characters in the show would probably be him
and William. But the fact that he's had this slow growth from being like the worst in season
one, episode one to now where I think this is going to have a cause of major shift in his character.
Like maybe he'll still be joking, but nowhere near to the degree that he was before. He lost
his friends. He lost the, he was about to lose the battle, lost his hand because he was reckless and
didn't think that there was going to be a threat. And I think that's going to cause a major
shift in the way that he moves forward.
I'm excited to see you with that change of development.
I completely agree with you.
I think sometimes the, I'm not going to like, I think my point is one of those things that
can be way more magnified than what I'm actually leading it into, you know, like,
no, I wouldn't want this show because a lot, the jokes are so within the characters.
Right.
And not every joke, like in real life, needs to be one that generates a laugh, you know.
Sometimes a joke is just a joke.
and it doesn't mean people need to laugh at the joke.
It's just something that a character is saying.
So, yeah, and I'm saying, like, it's so fleeting whenever it happens.
And I was just trying to think, like, what is, like, the one tiniest thing I could think of?
And perhaps when they do cut to the guardians of the globe, sometimes they're fighting, like, these big villains are in the city.
And I don't know, they all kind of just bleed together at a certain point.
I would say if I had to pick something small, some of the,
the logic established doesn't hold up because that's more specifically the stuff with Rudy
and they showed when he first got his body and he was going to send the mallers back to prison
that he could control a giant mech and then he had two other droids that he could
deploy or deploy so I'm like if you know there's a threat that's coming that has millions
of aliens on it wouldn't you want to like utilize that technology to like help you guys out
So I don't know why one feels the need to be in the suit
If he has if he's the most important person there
With the brain of the operations
And he already had the ability to deploy suits
Why wouldn't you just continue to do that?
But I don't know
Maybe the show will explain that
But I think
Again I think that kind of goes to the humanity side of it
Is the his journey that he's been on
Is you know
When the season started out
There was that moment where he didn't know how to
handle the feelings of fear ever yeah true and he has to learn how to use emotions to better himself
in battle versus detaching and separating himself remotely so i think there was purpose to it it's still
very i think both can be true like i still think it's very valid what you're saying that yeah he
probably could have brought some like big arsenal with him because his arsenal is like iron man style
words. It could be like put her in a suitcase.
Where's the Iron Legion? And it just
and it like, you know, grows.
I don't know the terminology to any of that
stuff. Say nano.
Nanotech. Yeah, everything's nanotech.
I don't even think it does. It's nanotech, but it's something.
Anyway, yeah, I loved it. That was amazing.
That was an amazing episode.
And I love the patience on it and the payoff as well.
And the reveal too, of course, with the alien.
I love how you made like this giant catacons.
chalismic mistake, but the way they were teasing him, you were wondering, is he, is he
him malevolent intentions? He seems like a little bit odd, a little corky, but is someone
you should be threatened by? Is he dangerous? And you're like, I was just kind of an idiot.
He's wanted a chance of a better life, you know? He was, he was stuck there. I wasn't taking
seriously. So, took the opportunity. And yes, great action to you. I love when the show goes
hardcore violent.
But it constantly,
still to this day,
surprises me when like,
like limbs,
bones being contorted,
oh no.
Yeah.
And his legs just like screws me up,
snap.
Awful.
Yeah,
they're good at the bone crunching.
They're really good.
And like there's so much like,
like blood,
like floods of blood.
The audio design is crazy.
Yeah.
Yeah, it's amazing.
Love it.
Love the blood.
Give me the core,
baby.
Give me the gore.
All right.
Thank you guys so much.
being here. What did you guys think of the first episode back with season two, episode five,
season two, part two, episode one, season middle? Leave your thoughts down below. And hey,
I can't wait for episode six when that comes out in three months. See you guys soon.
