Starting point is 00:03:02 I felt good about that. I felt good. I felt good. I really enjoyed this, obviously, always here for Mickey Rourke. He was... You were brilliant. I really am. And I mean, I really do like him a lot, but I think he was just a super fun villain, too. I... I... Yeah, I'm about it. I need to collect my thoughts for a moment, Jackie. I think that...

Starting point is 00:03:28 I can't think about Mickey for too much. Don't think about Mickey. For too much. Don't think about Mickey. I really enjoyed this one. I do think that I enjoyed the first one a bit more, but I think that this one really did live up, and I think it... I don't know.

Starting point is 00:03:43 I really, I really enjoyed it as a sequel. Yeah? Yeah, I liked the overall arc a bit more. I think in the first one, but what I will say is I loved the addition. I loved the addition of Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanov. I feel as though I am, this is the first movie that we've watched where I'm like, okay, it's starting to feel like an Avengers and a real MCU movie. Like before, obviously, this is only the third movie.

Starting point is 00:04:16 Yeah. It was only, but out of the three. But yeah, before it felt like more obviously setting up. up individual storylines, you know? But this one I started to get the real feel of the team is starting to assemble. Yes. Of what it's going to be. Yeah.

Starting point is 00:04:34 And I do, I guess I can't decide. I really enjoyed the first one too. I, because I really just love that he had kind of an unlimited budget. I think that that was what was probably the most fun for me about the first one. Which obviously still carried through here too. do you mean him making the film or do you mean Tony Stark? I mean as the superhero.

Starting point is 00:04:57 Yeah, yeah, yeah. I appreciate that the world is starting to come together. I guess I feel like he's still kind of like the bad boy though. I maybe expected a little bit more of a come up for him and maybe to lose a little bit of the like cocky narcissism. He came right back on. came right back and I felt like he started to lose it in the first one. Right. And then he was like sick here.

Starting point is 00:05:26 So he thought he was going to. And then he got better. And I still feel a little bit like I'm still waiting for a little bit of a come up. But I also can appreciate that I think that's where his, his place kind of is in the group. He's still got to prove himself. He's still got to like show us that his morals are in the right place. You know, because usually. They are like, we're not really giving you the job yet, right?

Starting point is 00:05:53 Yeah, no, exactly. You're still, you're in, but you're not all the way yet. But I appreciate that. I like that. I obviously like a bad boy. Right. Yeah, I think that's cool. I like that we didn't maybe have the full come up.

Starting point is 00:06:12 Because, I mean, yeah, I think we like, yeah, we touch base on this earlier, but the fact that this is only like the third in like how many freaking movies? like it makes sense that we're not getting what we want. Yes. Yet. And he's still just like a very likable. He's still witty. He's still witty.

Starting point is 00:06:31 He's still very witty. He pissed me off. He pissed me off for real. Yeah. The thing about the thing about people. I feel like we have very different taste and bad boys. I'm not into the bad boys anymore. I like a nice gentleman who's respectable, respectful.

Starting point is 00:06:47 To be clear, I married a very nice. boy very nice i don't know almost on the virgin nerd maybe i'm done but you know he's gonna be but you know the the men that have those freaking egos it usually does actually come from deep-rooted deep-seated insecurity right and we did get there too i which i always almost touched on that it's a about his dad yes every movie i'm always like show me your childhood please and i really that we got to see it in such a special way of him kind of discovering home, not home footage, but, you know, lost tapes from his dad. Yeah, the sinister sense.

Starting point is 00:07:29 Yeah, and that his dad, but his dad really had faith in his son and in his intelligence that he was going to be able to shape things for the better, you know? That was cool. Yeah. Was there anything filmmaking lies that, like, stood out to you in battle scenes? DGI is crazy. Yeah. I mean, I loved the, we called this out earlier, but I loved this, the battle scene between

Starting point is 00:07:58 him and Don Cheadle. Yeah. You know. The party scene? The party battle. Yeah. The party battle. That was pretty cool.

Starting point is 00:08:05 Honestly. Just seeing like the, that mansion that we're very familiar, the mansion in Malibu that we're very familiar with and then seeing it in like that devastating of a state of disarray. Also, it was even cool when he was creating the atom and seeing that like cut. everything in half. That was so sick. I actually really loved the um the grand prix battle. I thought that was really cool. That one was terrifying. It was insane. The cars flipping and like cutting so many of them in half and Mickey just standing in the middle of the track and yeah. Do you still want to be a race car driver after that? Yeah. I don't know. Not really. I mean that was like it was your mother.

Starting point is 00:08:45 It was like a childhood dream of mine to be a race car driver. I don't know. why like I'm not even I've never even got a speeding ticket in my life I always wanted to like you know like you could do that for your birthday you can go like do the track yeah I remember taking I'd probably go slow slow and be like am I flying I remember like taking my driver's test and them saying every time that you step behind the wheel of a vehicle you are in like a weapon of mass like they call it a weapon of mass destruction but they were like you are in something that can kill people and I was like yeah yeah anyways Should we get into some questions? Let's do it. Our in our Marvel game where we've had quite a bit. All right. Captain Fernandez writes in,

Starting point is 00:09:28 Hi, Captain, and says, Don Chitle is a great actor, but I preferred the chemistry between Robert Donnie Jr. And Terrence Howard. Their relationship in the first movie had a more lived-in feel. How do y'all feel about the recast?

Starting point is 00:09:39 Very agreed, actually. Actually, I really agreed. I really, really like Don Chiedel a lot. I think that he has a very cool name. I just really like saying Don Chitle. I don't know why. Don't Cheeto, Don Cheeto, Don Cheeto. I very much agree.

Starting point is 00:09:54 It felt like Terrence Howard and him had a little bit more of a chemistry. Do we know why he got recast? Maybe he was just busy. Maybe he was doing something else. Or maybe he pissed somebody off. I kind of want the tea. Recast Iron Man. Yeah, I feel like when we first saw his character on screen, I almost, ooh, I almost thought it was a different character

Starting point is 00:10:18 because I just felt like they didn't have that. You know, like from the Iron Man one, when we first saw that character on screen interact with Robert Downey Jr., we immediately knew that they were friends. And with him, I was like, why do you call him a friend when they don't see? Okay, but here it says,

Starting point is 00:10:34 uh-oh, pay cut demand. Howard stated that Marvel asked him to take a massive pay cut of nearly 90% for the sequel, reducing his offer mentality from $8 million down to $1 million. Budget shifting, Marvel wanted to reallocate, funds to pay Robert Downey Jr. A much higher salary. Okay. Howard claimed

Starting point is 00:10:54 that he originally took a pay cut on the first film to help get Downey cast, which added to the frustration of them, like, then doing it again. Yeah, squeezing them out later. And then let's see. Onset issues, reports in the first film noted some studio dissatisfaction regarding Howard's onset behavior and performance, leading

Starting point is 00:11:10 producers to plan a reduced role for him in the sequel. I don't know if that's true, though, or that could be a rumor that they spread after because they're trying to do pay cuts. We don't know for sure. there have been days where I'm halfway through work, realize I never planned lunch and, you know, I opened the fridge four different times, like somehow a new meal is just going to spawn in there. And suddenly I've spent 20 minutes thinking about food instead of just eating. That's generally one of the reasons why Huell has become such a regular part of my life for almost two years now. My God, I use it during that cut that I did last year that didn't shut up about.

Starting point is 00:11:42 I use them during maintenance. Even on cheat days, I use them, which are a little too often now. I've got dow back some of them cheat days. Since Jackie said Iron Man in Iron Man that Tony genuinely changed because he's now willing to give his life in Iron Man 2, what do you think that change is tested? How do you think, sorry, how do you think that change is tested when Tony starts facing the consequences of becoming Iron Man? Loaded question there, Jackie. I can take a stab at it. Go ahead.

Starting point is 00:14:16 Well, I mean, he genuinely changed because now he is willing to. Well, yes. Well, because in the first film, he was willing to actually, like, give his life and he, like, sacrificed his big weapons conglomerate to changing to becoming the Iron Man so he can actually help the world and help protect the world from the weapons that he created. He had a whole come to Jesus moment where he was like, holy shit, these weapons that I made are killing people. They're being used in a bad way. Very, very great. Great change. And now, I don't know, it was interesting because then as soon as, like, being Iron Man started to...

Starting point is 00:14:56 Actually, Bacoy, you know, that's really funny that I did say, like, wow, he's willing to give his life now. In Iron Man, too, now where his piece is killing him. Yeah. He is, he did a complete 180, and it's like he almost, like, totally regressed. And now he's drinking a lot, partying a lot, being very irresponsible with the suit. not helping anyone iron man has disappeared now so it's yeah he he he basically he i don't even think that change is tested i think that change failed the test and he regressed that's what i'm getting and i almost think he regressed back to his selfish i almost yes i i almost fear that i was

Starting point is 00:15:38 really looking forward to that pepper kiss but i i kind of don't feel like it was earned yet you're pretty quiet during that kiss i don't know if it was earned yet i don't know if it was earned yet i don't know if it was earned I don't know if I felt like it was earned. I can agree with that. Yeah. Don't be mad at me. I think I, yeah, that's what I said to. I was kind of like wanted a little bit more of.

Starting point is 00:15:56 Well, he was like just about to try to fuck Natasha and then like, you know, I'm so glad that didn't happen though. And he was like. But it was almost like he was kind of messing. But he was almost kind of messing with pepper, I feel like. But it's not funny to mess and then also keep secrets from her, not let her in at the fact that you're dying. Like, like she's still furious with. him and then what they just kiss and everything's like puppies and rainbows and we're all like, you know, I'm sorry. Wow, people are going to be, I spoke my truth. Okay. Good for you. I spoke

Starting point is 00:16:27 my truth. Good for you. What do you think, Paige? I mean, I agree. I, I, I, like I said, I wanted him to have a little bit more of a come up too. But I think this is where his place starts in this universe, in the shield, in the team. And I, I think that he will prove himself. I have faith than you, Iron Man. Do we think that that shield and that he used to prop up his atom maker? Do we think that that was a Captain America Easter egg? It was really good.

Starting point is 00:16:59 It was red and blue and how'd you get that? Yeah. How'd you get that? Yeah. I don't know. I'm pretty sure the Captain America time travels, doesn't he? I don't know. I don't know.

Starting point is 00:17:11 Maybe I'm making all this up. What the hell do I know? All right. Jaden Jones. Rhodes. Jaden Roads. Jaden Roads. I said.

Starting point is 00:17:18 Jaden Rhodes. You didn't get recast. You didn't get recast, Jaden. I'm so glad. Jaden says, I'm curious how much of the world building did y'all like from this movie. My favorite part of the world building was including Black Widow.

Starting point is 00:17:30 I'm curious if y'all liked her. And how did this get y'all excited to see more characters in the MCU? I loved her. I loved her, too. I know absolutely nothing about Black Widow at all. I love Black Widows, though. I actually have a Black Widow tattoo. I really like spiders.

Starting point is 00:17:48 I'm really excited. Yeah. Unless I'm wrong, I'm pretty sure Black Widow doesn't have powers and maybe is just like super trained spy. Oh, cool. You know? Because that's what she was doing here. She was a spy. Yeah, I guess so.

Starting point is 00:18:03 He did say you're like a, what, like a triple. Mm-hmm. A triple, not triple, triple, triple, triple disguise. Yeah. Yeah, I'm really excited for her. Obviously, we love Scarlet. Want to see more of her. want to see more of all of all of these characters absolutely absolutely absolutely

Starting point is 00:18:22 i liked the world building i feel like i want i want even more i'm like looking at these now these are some of the people we're going to get to know maurice gray junior hi maurice ladies this was a great character development for tony stark but what did you think of scarlet jamsson's debut as Natasha Romanoff. What I say it right? Romanoff. Black Widow. To me, she stole every scene

Starting point is 00:18:50 she was in. Agreed. I want her in a solo movie after seeing her destroy those guards at the Hammers facility. Does she not have a solo movie? He's saying wanted. Oh, okay.

Starting point is 00:19:02 Okay, good, good. Yes, I agree. I'm pretty sure she has a solo movie. I mean, she's super solid. She's definitely a scene stealer in most everything. She's incredible. I mean, her look is always

Starting point is 00:19:14 so just phenomenal, but she's actually a really talented actress too. Although I don't know if we got to see a whole lot of that in this per se, not exactly like a super dimensional character, but it definitely got me excited. I know I got Jackie excited. Colin Jost, watch your back. She's coming for your lady, Colin. I'm coming for her.

Starting point is 00:19:42 No, I'm really, yeah, no, I mean 10 out of 10. I don't know what else to say. Like love. Love. Love. Literally love. All right. Jay Rushden writes in and says,

Obscure villain. I would call it like, I would say I liked this movie better than... Whiplash is got to be somebody else. Really? It's Whiplash. Hold on. That's the movie where they

Starting point is 00:20:30 play the drums. I know. That's Miles Teller, right? Which Blash villain Marvel. Wait, maybe it's real because it's comic books. It's a techno villain. Primary antagonist. Yo, Whiplash is real. They did not say that at all, did they? Swear to God they did not say that. Wait, in the comic books, he looks like a squid. Squid! Oh, it looks dumb. Tony's way better.

Starting point is 00:20:54 I mean, not Tony, Mickey. I liked this movie better than, is that true? Jackie, is that true? Did I like it better than the Incredible Hulk? I like the tone better. It's more fun. It's definitely more fun. It's more fun.

Starting point is 00:21:08 Incredible Hulk was, had some really great pieces to it, But again, to me, I'm like, we're also just dealing with, like, I know I keep saying it, but, like, Iron Man having this, like, unlimited budget just makes the whole thing more fun. Well, I'm just confused because we also traveled to a lot of more cities and, you know. Incredible Hulk. It just felt like the tone was so different than every Marvel film and trailer I've seen. Yeah, it felt like kind of like a downer. The color grading was really like gritty and desaturated.

Starting point is 00:21:46 And it was just, there's a lot of rain. They really used that rain machine to death. Sorry. Anyways. And, oh, we have a great piece of trivia that brings up what you said earlier. Oh, interesting. Should I read it? Oh, yes, but shout him out.

Starting point is 00:22:04 Oh, hi, Alex. Hey, Alex. Alex Mesa has some fun trivia. for us, something I maybe touched on at some point. I think you did. You brought this up. Interesting fact, coming from a DJ during the birthday scene at Tony's place, the DJ at the party is Adam Goldstein, known as DJ AM, widely admired as one of the best.

Starting point is 00:22:27 He was brought on by Robert Downey Jr. Because he had pretty publicly been 10 years sober after living the party boy lifestyle. And that resonated with our DJ. and his past demons. After filming AM and Blink 182's Travis Barker were the only two survivors in a plane crash, which led to AM's unfortunate relapse after his physical and mental health decline

Starting point is 00:22:52 and ultimately leading to his untimely passing eight months before the premiere of Iron Man, too. Wait, that's really sad. It is very sad. I knew he was in that plane crash. I didn't realize he survived. How do you? it sounds like he relapsed probably

Starting point is 00:23:09 Survivor's guilt and I would have a OD situation Holy crap How do you survive So does that mean Travis Barker was the only one That really they were like the only two

Starting point is 00:23:23 Oh my God Yeah it was terrible How even whoa They didn't even make it off the runway I think Oh my goodness Oh my God I'd never heard about this But I mean I would have been like 10 like 10 years old or something.

Starting point is 00:23:38 This was in 2020. Yeah, I mean, it was the same year. The movie came out. Oh, my goodness. See, and I kept the, I thought that he had died in the plane crash. So he did die, but just. Not in the plane crash.

Starting point is 00:23:50 Just from a... Well, it's probably from Survivor's guilt, and that's really what gets a lot of folks, especially if you already have an addiction past, you know? There's, oh. So sad. Oh, my God. Wow.

Starting point is 00:24:03 And also just kind of the, if you were, so hard to get really, really healthy. And then you're, I mean, you have to be so injured from something like that. And then it's kind of like the, I worked so hard in this horrible thing happened to me. Why did I even do that? It's not fair. The life isn't fair. So what's the point?

Starting point is 00:24:22 Well, why did I make it and my friends didn't? Yeah. Yeah. Travis Barker. Yeah. Travis Barker talks, it's pretty been really public about that plane crash and like what it's done to him. I actually really like Travis Barker.

Starting point is 00:24:35 I was a big Blink 182 fan though. Do you know Blink 1182? Yes, I know Blink 182. It was one of the first concerts I ever went to. I listened to Blink 182. Oh, good. I'm glad. Back then.
