Roxy Striar, Tara Erickson & Andrew Gordon react to Episode 2 of IT: Welcome to Derry—titled “The Thing in the Dark” (Season 1, Ep 2) — the chilling continuation of the prequel horror series set in 1962 Derry, Maine. In this episode, the fallout from the disturbing events at the movie theatre deepens: Charlotte Hanlon (Taylour Paige – The Toxic Avenger, Maestro) and her husband Leroy Hanlon (Jovan Adepo – Babylon, Creed II) face growing tensions as they settle into Derry, while Lilly Bainbridge (Clara Stack – series newcomer) contends with her terrifying vision of Matty’s disappearance. Meanwhile, the sinister presence of Pennywise (Bill Skarsgård – Barbarian, Hemlock Grove) looms ever-closer, lurking beneath the surface of “everybody knows your name.” With its layered horror, socio-historical background, and creeping dread, Episode 2 amplifies the fear of what lies beneath the town’s veneer—and sets the stage for the next chapter in this terrifying prequel saga. the bell ring the bell also thanks prep for helping edit down these videos super appreciate
to you all right guys let's get into it what do you think who wants to go first go for it dude
I was really sad and disappointed where was my purge Roxy you know we were just too
not not suspenseful there's got to be the moment the buildup
Yeah, I don't know.
Okay, I'm just saying, just saying.
I really enjoyed it so far.
I think we all had the same thought process of...
You have to pass my phone so I can look up that dude while you're...
Be right back.
I understand how ridiculous that is, but I actually can't function without knowing for any longer.
So keep going on.
I think we all had the same cautionary apprehension at the end of the last episode where you off to a lot of the kids that we, or teenagers, that we were already invested in.
So where are we going to go from here?
And so far, I'm really, I know we haven't spent a lot of time yet with Will and with not Scotty.
What was the other kid's name?
I know they've said it like five times.
The one who was like looking at Marge in a age.
Rich? Yeah.
What was it? Rich?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And then he's like, get out of here with the smoke bomb.
I know we've only spent a little bit of time with them.
But I'm already liking this new group of kids that we've gotten to know.
And I can't wait to explore these characters even more.
so i really really like will a lot he fascinates me so much in that he's not willing to adhere to
pressure in terms of like most of the kids go to sports for instance and his thing is science and
like it really excites him and i love that he doesn't as i just mentioned fall under peer pressure
of if what most people will perceive as weird i embrace that weirdness so you know i i take that
with a great deal of pleasure
because I myself feel like I am very weird
and I'm proud of that as well
so I think Will is such a relatable character
in that sense
and I think when it comes to
just the times we're in
the fact that this is a horror show
in general and the world is
kind of encompassing the horror
that people had to go through
at the time minorities
in the 60s I mean still have to deal
with that nowadays too but it's like
They're trying to pin on someone who was not even at the location.
And it's just really disgusting to watch.
And, yeah, I think that's, like, the real horror of the show,
like just how people of color were treated at that time.
But it adds a grounded realism to the show.
So I think the show is being handled in a very mature way.
I think it's executed very well.
I think the script is fantastic so far in the two episodes.
But also at the same time when you get really frustrated with characters
that we really do care about, like with Lily when she had to say that, yeah, he was there.
It's like she was emotionally manipulated in that moment, and also we got to remember at the same
point, yeah, she has agency and she's a smart kid, but she's also like 12, 13 or 14, however old,
she was a police officer manipulated her in that moment where there was no adult there to supervise
and help her out. So I'm not justifying what she did or said, but I have perspective enough
to sympathize with her, and that sucks. She was entrapped by an adult, a piece of shit,
adult there who was threatened in his own right by the councilman or whatever who threatened his
job so it's just and she ultimately ended up in the same and she ended up there either way so it's like
but that's kind of the lesson of life i think is yeah do the right thing because you might end up in
the bad place no matter what right you got to yeah you got to do stand up for what you for what's right
i totally agree that is a good lesson there it's a cautionary lesson as well so totally what do you
think, Roxy? Well, I wanted to say
Great Call by you. It is
Luke Fox on...
Lucia's Fox? Yeah, but he goes by Luke, I think, on the show
on Gotham. If I
remember correctly on Gotham, let me see how he's actually
credited, because
Lucius Fox... Oh, no, I think even by Luke Fox
and Batwoman. I confuse
all my DC shows.
They all merge together, but
I love Gotham. I watched every episode, and
still, you pulled that, and I could not.
So what does that mean? I've only seen a season
and a half, too. But it's actually
not what I was remembering him from when I kept being like,
I've seen him something more recent,
where am I pulling this from?
He was in an episode of Feud,
which is a show that I absolutely loved.
He was in 16 episodes of Perry Mason,
and he was in Godzilla versus Kong.
But what I was thinking of is him and when they see us,
which is another amazing, amazing show that he did.
So he's been in a lot of stuff.
He was also in Detroit.
He was in underground.
He's been a ton of things.
And then our main dude,
not our main dude,
but the military guy who, like, knows what's up and is really good at his job.
He, his name is, I don't know how to say, if it's Joe Vaughn, Adepo.
And he has been in a bazillion things.
He was in fences.
He was an overlord.
He's in Babylon to catch a killer.
He was in three-body problem, which I really enjoyed that show on Netflix.
So why we keep recognizing him and people is because they clearly all book a lot.
Yeah, he's great.
I really like him.
He's a greatly.
Clearly, clearly, extremely well-cast show.
How did I feel about this episode?
I feel like I am curious why we spent so much time on some of the people in the pilot.
You know, I was a little, the show is doing great.
I'm really enjoying it while I'm watching it.
Yeah.
But we have, now we are in the end of episode two.
The end of episode one, we spent a significant amount of time with people that I really cared about,
that now we are maybe not going to see again.
And I understand it adds to the trauma
of the people who are surviving.
But I feel like it was enough adding to the trauma
just with the death of Maddie.
So, you know, I didn't feel like we needed
to kill more kids in order for me to get there
and make us attached to more people.
But maybe we do.
Maybe, and we'll feel that later on.
I just think we only have nine episodes
and I really want to get to know our people.
And we started introducing more characters in this one
that I'm like, I wish we had been able
to spend a little more time with them,
especially on a show like this
that isn't a binge model
when you really have to wait
every single week.
I really want to know our players
and because we haven't gotten
to Pennywise yet.
So the suspense is building
and they're doing a great job with that
but part of me is like
are we using our time wisely
which ultimately we will know at the ending.
I think because I'm coming off
of other HBO show
I'm coming off watching Peacemaker Season 2
where I feel like that show
didn't use its time necessarily
as wisely as it possibly could
because we did some meandering
and we did some side quests
and then some of the stuff
that really hit home at the end
I feel like we didn't focus on
enough at the beginning
that might be top of mind
for me right now
but it's not really fair
to put that on this show
because in general
if you ask me how I'm feeling
when I'm watching this
I'm enthralled
I feel like it's really really
I'm watching this like
holy crap
I can't believe
that television has gotten
this good in 2025
but this is
to me it looks as good
as the movies
I mean it's really incredible
to watch
and I'm invest in the story
so really really liking it
has have my hesitation
but those might be personal hesitations.
Yeah, that makes sense.
I think what I like the most about this
is the really disgusting effects that they gave us,
especially there at the end with the dad.
I mean, that was just, that's disgusting.
And it's so very much, yeah, that too.
I mean, that's already just like,
why do I need to see more of a woman a vagina?
I know.
I'm not in the mood.
Gross.
Honestly, I wasn't in the mood before and then we had it again.
And another umbilical cord,
and I don't want to see it.
I don't want it, but you're giving it to me.
And just, like, it makes me want to vomit, but that's the point I think of the show.
Oh, there's, you know, the effects are so good that they're just really, really disgusting.
I think the character that I really like right now, but I also feel just so badly for is Ronnie.
Also, Lily, as the lead, she's great.
Like, you look at her, you put her in a pickup shot, and I, she's right there.
she's grounded she's doing her job and she's young like i'm like yeah give her give her the work i also
really like ronnie but i feel just it's tragic like that's tragedy her dad is going to jail her she's
like left her grandma who's going to be heartbroken because her son's there now she finds out
lily didn't tell the truth made a mistake she was like i was tricked nobody even really
ronnie doesn't even have that many friends i was just like it's sad as hell in here totally
Just really, it's just sad.
For sure.
So I don't know.
One new friend at least.
I know.
Oh, with Will.
That's true.
I like that interaction.
Thank goodness.
That was a good one.
That was a good one great friend.
Yeah.
Yeah, you're right about that.
Thank God they went into, like, detention together so that they could form that bond.
Yeah.
And that he really felt like he wanted them to both get in trouble.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I did.
I did.
Right now, I did.
That was such a great interaction, too.
You know, like when he was talking about.
his science book
I was like oh my god he's showing
himself his true self to her
without caring because before he was like
no no no it's fine oh
and then he was like
like word vomit science
which I really I like that
a lot. Reject Nation you know those
nights when you're starving
fridge is empty and you absolutely
don't want to cook or leave
the house or heck you might even be at an
office and you got a limited lunch hour
you don't want to spend any of that time driving
on the road.
This time is precious.
It's situations like this
when Uber Eats saves M-Wan.
I saw so many people using Uber Eats
before I officially got on board
and using Uber Eats is super easy.
What's awesome is you can discover new deals
every day and choose from hundreds
of restaurants and local stores.
You just browse, order, track, and enjoy.
All in just a few taps.
At the studio, I can feed the whole team
during a late night shoot without stopping the work.
Get back to work and I'm going to order you food.
And at my home, I don't have to pause the movie
we were watching. I could just order from my phone. Ah, stress-free. No dishes, no traffic, no. What do we do for food?
It literally turns it into food is already on its way. And ladies and gentlemen, if you've never
tried Uber Eats before, now is the perfect time. You can use code Real 15 to get $15 off your first
order of $20 or more. Once again, code Real 15 to get $15 off your first order of $20 or more.
First-time customers only terms and fees do apply.
in the description box in pink comment or the easiest way you can scan this QR code right here on screen and make your first order today so um i'm loving what they're doing so far i'm with you on that yeah no i think in order to self-heal you need a very good supporting cast or rather support unit around you so i think that's going to be very important especially with ronnie and will and rich i would imagine too lily at some point there's going to have to be a forgiveness arc when it comes to ronnie and also when it comes to
to Lily having the
perspective of like, hey, I made
a mistake, obviously, you know,
no justification, but I understand that
I was manipulated into saying what I said,
but, you know, having the force sense to understand
that and apologize, of course,
and hopefully get her dad out
of prison. I don't know how that's going to
work in the time we're in right now, but
especially, as I've pointed out,
quite a few times that
it seems that Pennywise
has this entire town in a day,
as we saw when Charlotte
the mom, Will's mom
they saw kids
like beating up on another kid and
nobody reacted in any way
shape or form and it's the 60s
but even so I feel like people
would react to that so
instead of boys will be boys I agree
they're like it's not
they're all in a trance they're like yeah they're in a trance
like they were beating the crap out of this kid
they even know everybody in town and I'm that one line
where he's like oh no I'm just mean I know everybody here
yeah yeah this and these movies in the show just really do a good job of play or pennywise does a really
chaotic job of playing on people's fears i mean you got with with uh lily and on playing on guilt for
instance and and really recreating that in a creative and sadistic way with the pickles so that was
yeah it's very and then the mom with i we're not going to go into the graphic details but i'm like
that's just sadistic and mean and that's what penny wise is and it's why we hate him but it's also
why we appreciate the character in a effed up way so i just can't wait to at some point see
bill scars i'm curious when that's going to be but i'm definitely into the show and i really
like will's dad a great deal i think that's one of my favorite scenes i pretty much enjoy
every scene i've seen of him but just seeing how resourceful intuitive he is like to pull the
files and uh be smart enough to know like this guy's not even going to be able to like
I'm going to, yeah, I'm going to go to his vulnerable spot talking about his mom
because I know he's not going to like someone like me talking about.
His mom hit him where it hurts.
And let's see him try to load the gun because I know he's not going to be able to.
I already pulled his files.
I can love that.
That was such a bad scene without even, he didn't need to be violent or do anything.
It just showed how smart he was.
It's the best scene in the show so far, I think, because it's a show don't tell.
We are able to really see.
I am curious now about James Remar's character on whether he's actually.
a good guy because that's the way that
the show set it up, the fact that he did that
and he put him through that and then didn't come clean about
it until he gets called out on it and then
brings him into the operation. I think it's very
smart because we're looking at the show
thinking, is this a villain or is this
really, and did he do this because he's a person
of color? Or did he do this because
this is what you do in the military and he needed to really
check because of the brain injury? And a lot of the other
characters on the show right now are very black and white.
We know who's good. We know who's evil, especially
like the person in the cell, right?
Even though he didn't do this,
he's a racist POS.
We know that.
A lot of the people in the town
who want the dad of Ronnie
to be arrested, racist POSs.
We know that.
We know who our good guys are.
We know who our bad guys are.
So it's nice to have some characters
where it's like,
you did a bad thing.
Are you a bad guy?
I'm not sure.
I think he comes off as very soft-hearted,
but he also comes off as self-serving.
So I'm curious to see where we...
But is it self-serving
or is it world-serving?
Does he think, you know, like...
I guess we're going to...
Yeah, we're going to find out because...
Not justifying what he did, it's wrong.
Of course, of course.
And the fact that he didn't tell him in any way, like, hey, this was...
I'm so sorry we had to do this.
This was just a test.
He had to find out all this information in order to say, yeah, so take that seat like we want...
So I don't trust him as of right now.
Yeah, I don't trust him either, but the more we're talking about it, it's interesting.
It's the opposite of what happened with peacemaker.
The more we're talking about it, the more invested.
I actually am in the show,
the more I feel like they really are setting up.
But I do think that when you're not doing a binge model show,
if you're not going to introduce Pennywise early on,
you probably should have given us three episodes in one week
instead of making people come back a week, wait a week in between
for us not to have our main characters come through
to the second episode and not have Pennywise,
but really, who am I to say that by the end?
It might feel like great.
Well, there's tons of people who may have not watched the movies.
I don't know why they would end up watching the show.
show, but that happens all the time. So if they are not engulfed in the lore of what it is,
and they're like, there's voices coming from out of the sink, and why are these people seeing
things? Is this nightmare in Elm Street? What the, is this? What are they, what horror movie
are they stealing from? Because we specifically have not seen Pennywise at all. I do agree.
Exactly. But it was just kind of like, that's it, right? And that's a nice callback to when we saw
with the weird teeth and his eyes were in one or two or whatever.
We saw his eyes in something.
But I'm like, there's still going to be.
I think people that are going to go and watch this show because it's on HBO
and maybe have not watched the movies.
And I guess we'll see how long they stick to it.
I don't know why you would want to do it if you haven't seen any movies.
But I think it's definitely going to be plausible.
And I do agree with you that in that case, Pennywise should definitely be present.
I just want to say one last thing because we do got to get going.
I thought it was really interesting writing
when it came to how Marge was
acting towards Lily and like, hey,
you got to stop acting like a loony because we got to be
friends with these girls and they're not going to like that and all
that. And it's like, well, you're not adhering
to my feelings right now.
And then Lily did the exact same
thing to
Veronica. It's like
you're not adhering to her feelings
and being a good friend and I understand why you don't want
to go to the loony bin. You're trying to protect yourself.
And also this cop coerced you into doing
that. But I found the parallels and the
writing there was really good point uh well done there do you really good point do you just one thing
before we go because we haven't talked too much about it the the the creature that we keep seeing
oh the baby thing we didn't even see that in the movies right right so not to the best of my
knowledge yeah to your point Tara I'm curious of people who have never seen the movies think that
that that's right like that that's the monster of the show right um and and and that takes
different forms and is taking over the mom or whatever because right we we haven't even had reference
so far.
Right.
Really, yeah.
We know that the credits.
I mean, the intro credits.
Well, we know about this, the Andy Mushietti's goal, though, is that every, it's
every 27 years that Penny Wise comes out, right?
So we know that this one is in the 60s.
Then season two is supposed to be 27 years earlier, and season three is supposed to be
27 years before that.
Oh.
So that is his plan for this franchise right now.
I had no idea.
It's supposed to be, okay, great.
Then I'm glad we're talking about it.
It's supposed to be three seasons.
And that's how we're supposed to be.
but we're going to keep going back and back and back.
Oh, wow.
And so I am kind of curious if this is where we're starting,
then what actually is going to be that origin story they're planning on telling
because this is not the origin story considering we're...
I would imagine season three we're going to get the definitive origin story of Pennywise.
I was just guessing as we're talking about.
Right, right, because otherwise what he would have said,
we'll do four seasons.
No, he has said this is my plan.
They've only greenlit one season,
but his plan is to do three seasons and keep going back every season.
That sounds awesome.
I'm down for that.
That's pretty cool.
Yeah, I'm mostly curious at the end,
you know, the car they pull out with a bunch of skeletons.
Like, what are we looking at?
What's the force they're talking about that's behind it?
I mean, our assumption is like, okay,
Pennywise does create a huge fear that could kill a man in his tracks
without, like, weapons.
So I don't know if that's like, oh, from back then they saw Pennywise,
and I don't know, they all died in the car.
We'll see.
I'm intrigued.
Do you guys have any last thoughts before?
we get out of here no just excited for next week can't wait to get to know more about the kids hopefully
lily doesn't have to spend too much time at juniper hill whatever that's called yeah we're gonna see
some pennywise fear up in there can't remember one name of a kid does remember the mental institution
sums up what does that say about me the tea says you're awesome we love you guys we'll see you on the next one
Thank you.
