The Reel Rejects - IT: WELCOME TO DERRY 1x06 Breakdown & Review!!
Episode Date: December 1, 2025HUGE REVEALS THIS WEEK!! IT: Welcome to Derry Full Episode Reaction Watch Along: / thereelrejects Roxy Striar, Tara Erickson, & Andrew Gordon dive into Episode 6 of IT: Welcome to Derry, the... supernatural horror prequel set in 1962 Derry, Maine and developed by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs. After Episode 5’s long-awaited Pennywise reveal, the back half of the season shifts into higher gear — escalating the town’s paranoia, government interference, and the kids’ desperate fight to understand what’s living beneath Derry. Episode 6, “In the Name of the Father,” is officially confirmed as the next installment and continues the fallout from the Neibolt Street events. Public previews indicate a heavier focus on Dick Hallorann as he’s forced to rely on his psychic “Shine” in the face of mounting evil, while the approaching tragedy of The Black Spot looms larger over Derry’s future. Episode 6 leans into deeper IT-mythology — including hints toward Pennywise’s unsettling human identity “Bob Gray” and new visions that blur the line between memory, fear, and manipulation. Key cast members driving the episode include: Bill Skarsgård (Barbarian, Hemlock Grove) as Pennywise / It, now emerging more openly as the town spirals; Jovan Adepo (Babylon, Creed II) as Leroy Hanlon; Taylour Paige (Zola, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom) as Charlotte Hanlon; Chris Chalk (Perry Mason, Gotham) as Dick Hallorann, whose connection to the Shine ties directly into Derry’s evil, & More. With Pennywise’s influence spreading, Derry’s institutions fracturing, & the kids pushing closer to the truth at huge personal cost, Episode 6 promises more lore, bigger scares, and a nasty ramp-up toward the season’s final catastrophe. Fellow reject, Greg from an alternate timeline, is here to let you know that we have launched three
new Stranger Think shirts in honor of the final season. First one up, Universal Inspired Monster
Poster of Vecna. This is from our friend Janine. I came up with this idea a long time ago. I love those
classic universal monster posters. I'm just so happy to see this brought to life. I'm going to get
a print out of this. The second one up that we have here is from the mind of Aaron Alexander, from the
artist Sammy, who we worked with plenty of times, Dr. Stranger Things. Need I say more? Come on. How come
no one's come up with this yet? And the third one, I'm wearing it right now. Reject things.
Thanks, Alex, for coming up with it. And thanks, Andrew, for snagging my size. And course,
we have our classic ones up there as well. We have a ton to peruse through. Anyone you buy is an
amazing way to support everyone here who works in front and
behind the camera. You can scan this barcode right here on screen. If you're interested,
go to the link in the description box and pin comment. If you end up not buying one,
that's a okay. I'm just glad they exist so now I can be wearing them. Let's get back to the video,
people. You're just going to get into it right now, so let's go three, two.

start guys don't all jump at once yeah seriously well I think it's because that ending
was really messed up.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Oh, man.
All right, I'll jump in.
Get her done.
Episode, very good.
Yeah.
Show, very good.
Show very good.
I heard the eye patch.
Don't forget it.
Yes.
If you learned anything.
I'm really, I really think that they're doing a fantastic job.
Now that we are where the audience is, we're watching in real time with them, I think that
what's been interesting to see is the, this is performing extremely well, but a lot of
people have complaints about the effects.
And I actually have no complaints about the effects.
I think the show looks amazing.
I think it sounds amazing.
And most of all, in a show like this,
I think this can go by the wayside sometimes,
but they don't hear it.
The performances are amazing.
Every single time we have those one-on-one scenes,
I'm like, I don't know.
Each actor elevates the next actor,
including the little kids.
Like the chemistry between Will and Ronnie
and between Richie and Marge is so palpable.
And, yeah, I'm just, I love each storyline.
Every time we go to the adults and, like, how we should parent our kids, I'm into it.
The Madeline Stow Twist, while it kind of took us by surprise, it makes sense.
It kind of checks out, and I think all three of us can relate to have dead parent do anything ever to
see dead parent day again, turn you into crazy person.
Totally.
And we see Pennywise has turned people into crazy people over way less.
So all of this is kind of just working for me.
I know we only have two more episodes to wrap out this, not just this season, but this
entire timeline of it.
Right.
So I am curious how we're going to bring it all home.
And this mob cliffhanger, we've been doing more cliffhangers, is, is stressed.
stressful AF. So yes, yes, yes, across the board, this is really working for me. And I think
exactly the desired effect is what is happening. Yeah, Tara. I mean, I think right now my favorite
storyline is Rich and Marge. I love that whole thing because we're adding in a bit of lightness
of like this like kid sort of love and one dream mixed with like, of course, we're in a
shitty situation. Like a lot of people's lives currently now at the end of this episode are
are in danger. Everyone is, like, not everyone, but most of them are in this actual club,
which now I'm like, oh, holy shite. And I really like, I've really liked Lily's performance,
that actress. She's doing a really, really good. I think she's pretty advanced. I mean,
I think all the kids are, are really, really great. But I also really like the storyline with
Will's dad and the mom and the mom going, like, we're leaving with her without you. I like that.
because there's a lot of times, even back then, during that timeline,
we're all saying that, like, oh, hitting your kids, spanking your kid,
all this stuff, right, different timeline that I think that a mom would just stay,
and I like that she's like, F off, we're going.
Like, she understands that he has a strong heart, and it's not like he, he's beating him up, right?
It was just a thing that got to him, he got out of control.
But I do like that she's putting her foot down and she's leaving because I feel like
I'm a lot of times, like, complaining about weak women in a script, and I don't like that.
So I do like the way that this is where this is headed.
And also, Madeline Stowe is a very strong character, too.
Like, she's deciding to make her own fate and dressing up.
Like, she's cuckoo bananas, but she's paving her own way.
And I'm like, the twist, I liked it.
I'm with you on that.
I'm like, yeah, I'm loving it.
It's a great journey.
Yeah, I think with Madeline Stowe, too,
we just really got to see just how incredible she is with her performance
because she really came off as so genuine and so caring,
especially with her relationship with Hank,
and just how caring she was towards Lily and Juniper Hill,
wherever it's called.
And then we saw, like, how sinister and how scary she could be
without actually physically doing anything in that scene,
just the way she emotes and her tone and how soft-hearted and scary she sounds
when she's speaking in that scene.
It just speaks to how good of an actress she is.
And she was, like, scaring the shit out of me, literally, in that scene.
Did you watch Revenge?
I've never seen that before.
She is, it's kind of a similar character, actually.
Yeah, this is where she excels in my humble opinion.
This is, like, kind of crazy.
When we saw her initially in this, I was like, I don't know if they're going to be able to utilize her full range because she just seems like a sweet person.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah, this is my cast her.
She's extremely versatile.
I mean, I've seen her.
The only other thing I've ever seen her,
and I think I pointed it out a couple episodes back
when we first saw her was last of the Moicans
and she was really wonderful there.
So, yeah, she's really a great actress.
But I'd love to, maybe one day I'll watch Revenge.
But one of the biggest concerns that Roxy Tarr and myself had
after episode one were like, all right,
first did we believe what we just saw?
And then we had that same concern after,
as we were going into episode two,
we really like these kids.
we have invested in them and they just killed off most of them, right?
So how are you going to get us on board with a new group of kids?
And they have excelled at that because we are obsessed with these kids.
And it's not just the rapport and the chemistry,
but they're all such great actors.
And I think from a perspective standpoint, too,
they really make you understand what each of these kids are going through
and just their journey throughout the season.
Lily, with her father and just how everyone thinks she is,
cuckoo bananas, as Tara would say, right?
And you really feel for her.
And then there's that whole...
I think what's one of the most fascinating dynamics
is her and Ronnie.
Because, you know, what's his name?
Chief Bowers?
He literally put her on the spot
and forced her to give up Ronnie's dad,
which sucked for her.
And she's just a little kid,
and this guy's putting her on the spot to do that.
Otherwise, you're going back to a mental institute.
Yeah, and your kid.
Yeah, and not justifying what happened.
It's very tough than a kid in that position.
You know, she didn't know how to right away react in that situation.
So I get it.
It's a tough position to be in, especially at that age.
But, you know, she's had a very difficult journey throughout.
And I'm curious to see in the last two episodes.
I mean, we know two characters who are going to survive when it comes to Ronnie and Will
because they have to have a child, Mike, who we're going to see in It volumes one and two,
chapters one and two.
So, yeah.
When I said the thing about the survival,
All I mean is that the premise of the show is kind of interesting,
not just a show of everything it related
because we know it's only every 27 years.
So even if we didn't know that we were going backwards,
which we do know because it's already been announced
that that's what season two is going to be,
there's only so much you can do with a set group of actors
because you have to recast
because you're not going to follow them
during the time that Pennywise isn't there.
So it's actually really smart to make this show
because the stakes are so high,
we could theoretically kill off a lot of people.
Anyone at any point.
Because there's no season two of this cast.
Exactly.
And we's, yes, sure, sure, sure.
As opposed to like a Game of Thrones where like, yes, of course, we have big kills,
but they majorly impact the next season and who wants to watch when you know like your favorite
actors are gone or whatever.
That's just not what this show is.
Us with Last of Us.
Right.
Or The Last of Us.
That's a better example, you know.
Like I think that this audience understands, yes, there's certain people who have to live
because they end up having children.
So, of course, we know that they live,
but we could wipe out 90% of the people
and it would be okay.
I'm not saying we should,
but when the mob is coming
and we see an entire group of people,
by the way,
this being in this time period that it is,
and a bunch of white people
are coming into a room full of a bunch of black people
and they're all coming with guns and masks.
Nobody is effing safe.
Yeah, and they already proved that
in the end of episode one
when they wiped out most of the kids, right?
That we saw that we were already so invested.
in and we thought we're going to be the main
group of kids, not only from that episode,
I think from the posters as well, it was like,
holy shit, the stakes are always high. You don't know who's going
to be taken out, as well as the fact that
we knew in the films,
the Losers Club, they're the ones who are
going to take out Pennywise eventually
as well. So that was interesting, too,
what you said about some people, and
again, it's all subjective, however you feel,
that people are complaining a little bit about the
CGI and the visuals. I... Not a little bit.
A lot. Have you been seeing that?
I have not, but I, I
personally I think it looks fine.
Tara and I had some complaints about the
climax of the second film when he
becomes really big and towering.
We thought it was a little off-putting, but
I think it looks really good here.
Are they complaining about how Pennywise looks?
Everything.
The teeth, everything, yeah,
the abobo.
Okay, I'm not bothered by it.
I'm not bothered either.
I don't know whether
it's like the size of the screen people watch
this is a problem with television these days and movies I guess but we're all watching on such
different monitors at this point and when we're watching a show to this scale we're watching
on a beautiful television but of course the lights are on in here so that you guys can see us
some people watch on their phone some people watch the pitch black some people watch an
HD some people watch not so you know like I think it's very challenging to make a show today that
everybody thinks looks good and while we're watching this I haven't had one qualm with how it looked
And then meanwhile, I talk to some of my co-hosts on other shows,
and they're like, what are you talking about, Roxy?
It looks horrible.
And I'm like, horrible.
What?
For sure.
What am I missing?
So I think that that's very strange.
You guys let us know in the comments.
I'm curious how you think this show looks.
I think we can all agree that, or most of us that we're liking the story, but it's a lot
of people who aren't looking at the effect.
I need to know what you guys think looks horrible.
Are you guys, I need specifics here?
Because have I blacked out?
Because I would obviously tell you I had before.
if an effect looks like absolute shite.
I'm like, that doesn't look good.
We all have.
We all have.
But I'm like, wait, what?
I need you to be specific so that we know.
While we're on this and you just mentioned it's all the booze that we've drank,
that's why we think it looks good.
For sure.
I actually want us to break down this booze scenario for a second.
Why did he give him the truth?
It feels like there's got to be something more to that.
It didn't feel to me just like, oh, their kids.
Let them have fun because you're not their parent.
You didn't say anything.
Like, like, it'd be one thing if he was like, you guys want me to spike it a little bit?
Right.
You know the same environment.
Like, he literally drugged them.
He did say this is what freedom tastes like.
Yeah, after.
Yeah, but the kids don't have, no.
Yeah, you're right.
I don't know.
It's a different time.
I'm not with it.
It's just a different time.
I don't know how much he put in it in it.
He goes, he goes, oh, you're good old Will's comrades or whatever.
Yeah, yeah.
So I think with that lie that I had just remembered that I'm like, ah, I think he's
doing it because maybe he's just like
let him have some fun. It's
weird time. But I do agree with
you that I would, I know
right? I thought
initially when we put these kids in this
scenario like as a writer I would have the kids
seek it out themselves. They see a beer
they grab it. They're like let's have a little fun.
Or ask for it. Exactly. What's that
brown stuff? The fact that the guy
didn't say anything, it is a little
weird. I get also the freedom
line and that he's like, ah, you're
a friend here. So I'm
I'm interested to see if that affects them in a negative way once this mob comes in or in a positive way where they're like, we're going to F you up.
I don't know.
He's like, and she's like, and her hair's all messed up and she's like, did you see how they ratted it up?
Great makeup, great, great, like all of that.
But where's the eye patch?
Thank you.
Where is it?
Asking the hard hitting class.
She's saving it for when they go down to see Pennywise.
No, that's heartbreaking that she didn't wear it.
Because she didn't have it.
Imagine, okay, you have a crush, you're this age.
I don't know how old they are, but you're this age.
You have a crush on a girl.
You have a crush on a girl.
You go into your attic.
You find a family heirloom.
Yep.
And I give it to her.
You give it to her.
And then you guys go out dancing and she is still in that ragged.
I'm heartbroken.
Heartbroken.
Exactly.
Yeah.
I'm saying.
I will agree, too, with Tara and you, Roxy, that is one of my favorite moment, or just
that they're dynamic this episode.
I love too that Marge
She feels so lost and broken
In terms of like what has happened with her eye
And also the fact that she's been trying to get with the popular kids
This entire season
And I'm afraid
And yeah
But Rich gave her the confidence
You know
To let her stand up for herself
You know
To not judge her when with that
I just thought it was so beautiful
They make a legit good couple
Like a legitimately good couple
They're so adorable together
But not judging her
and not freaking out on her to let her have her moment like that against those horrific awful popular
girls you know what i mean if this is what popular hell no i'm turning it down i'm gonna be with
this kid he's awesome and just the the the crew around me that i have but that's camaraderie
like that's true friendship and i love seeing that and also like this is not to call out terror but she
was not a big fan of march understandably so with how she was treating lily and trying to i was with
i was with no i was with i was with you too but like to get us like to go on a complete
turn around and be like now on Marge's side
I love when movies and TV shows
can do that have you be so frustrated with a
character and now have you be so
completely on their side now. It is
kind of interesting how isolated
we have left Lily in this episode though
because all the other kids are
riding together and
obviously we had that moment early on
with the boy Mike
where he tried to kiss her she didn't
whatever so she had a little that little love
interesting and now
she doesn't and she's so
low and she's got the Madeline stuff
but I do want to see her dynamic
with the group still
as Lily did really try to
get Marge to stop hanging out
with the mean girls and it didn't work
and it took Richie coming in
so I am kind of curious
what that dynamic looks like now and
obviously we have two episodes to see that so
I'm really worried too
just you know how it works
in movies and TV shows when a character says
four or five different times I'm going to
be fine I'm going to be fine with
Always be together.
I'm safe forever.
It's just a death sentence in movies and TV shows.
Hopefully we are wrong.
Hopefully he's completely fine.
Everything is good.
And then also we got to get the other shoe to drop for him to find out that the woman he is in love with has this dark, sinister motivation as well with her father.
And is she with him because of that?
Right.
Like, is she using him in some way or is.
Because we all thought that the woman, the man, Madeline Stowe was with, you know, we see.
in the shadows, and he's like, don't burn my steak again.
Right.
And he's kind of a dick, and she's cheating on him.
And we're like, oh, so she's cheating on him because he's a dick.
But perhaps she is not innocent in this scenario.
And maybe she hasn't been treating him well.
I don't know.
That's such an interesting question, right?
I guess we're going to find out.
Do you guys have any final thoughts on the episode?
Dick Hollering, perhaps, maybe about the dad is Leroy?
What happened there?
Just what he's going through, the hard rock and the,
I have a question for you guys
Before we get out of here
Because I know no spoilers on it
But right now
Our two throwback shows
That are airing simultaneously
Are this in Stranger Things
Yeah
Do you guys feel like this is going
To toe to toe with Stranger Things
Or do you guys feel like
Obviously we're more invested in Stranger Things
For all the seasons
But I feel like the audience
Is such a smaller community for it
And such a wide range
For Stranger Things
But I do think
you know somewhat going toe to toe but I haven't heard anyone saying that the effects on
Stranger Things are crap but you are telling me they are hating it so now I'm thinking not at all
even though I didn't notice it on this on this show um yeah nobody's been saying that with
what I will say with the latest season a little bit yeah a little bit toe to toe with the latest
season because I I I'm loving it and I'm also loving this but there are
are other seasons of Stranger Things that came before that started off with a little bit more
of a bang, a little bit more juice in there.
So right now I would say, for me, it's a little toe to toe.
And I wouldn't normally say that.
I'd say Stranger Things is up here.
Maybe it is around here.
Right now.
I mean, hard to beat out Stranger Things.
The thing is ultra popular, right?
But all I would say is I'm enjoying the boat so much.
I think there's a lot of inspiration.
that Stranger Things does get from a Stephen King type of novel, you know, with a bunch
of kids working together to work, beat something that is ultimately trying to divide them
and get on them through their fear.
There's just a lot of parallels, obviously, with the age group, the gang.
Exactly.
The bribes.
The bikes in the yard, like, all of it.
The whole entire vibe.
I think it's bad.
Yeah, you said that.
And one last thing I would say, like Will Mike?
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Exactly.
Exactly. And one last thing I would say here.
Bar, Marge.
The actor who plays Dick Hollering.
He is doing such an incredible job.
So you really feel the torment and the pain that he is going through not only from his past,
but just everything he's experiencing with Pennywise throughout.
I mean, just drinking and smoking, trying to numb the pain through alcohol.
Drink, drink, drink.
Yeah, I mean, understandable.
Like, that's a real world thing that we can resonate with.
But it's like he has got the shine and a psychic ability to,
be able to see these things so and he is trapped in that and i could only understand or only
somewhat understand what he is going through just from a visual perspective but it's going to be
interesting to see in the last two episodes because i got to imagine we know where he ends up but it's
going to be fascinating just to see in these last two episodes how he's going to have to just
throw all that out the window and be a strong force here for not only the kids but just to stand up to
penny wise and i'm curious what happens i think we're going to need a bigger box yes we are that we
will definitely all right i think that's it uh thank you so much for joining us we will be uh dropping
episode seven next week so make sure you stay tuned for that and appreciate it see you guys later take care
