Starting point is 00:02:10 Social media is where all this stuff is going on. Okay, so let's see. Here we go. I think it's the pretty reckless that do this song. Is it making you want to die? We'll look a lot of things out. Somebody will leave it in the comments. If it is the pretty reckless, then it is.
Starting point is 00:02:30 is the girl who played Jenny Humphrey and Gossip Girl. I got to look into some things. I got to look into a lot of different things. We have so many things to look into. But let me just get your general thoughts on the movie. I think you loved it as much as I did, but what are you feeling right now? Oh, I freaking loved it.
Starting point is 00:02:45 It had heart. It got us into the characters. I cared about them. I cared where their lives were going. They didn't need to take a lot of time to get us into those characters. And then once they're introduced, it's like giving us what we're here for,
Starting point is 00:02:59 which is like the action adventure, amazing stunts, showing us master shots of those stunts and like the of them so we can actually see them stabbing each other, her jumping across the room. And like the gun fights, they didn't do a lot of that shaky camera. It's a lot of close-ups, cut, cut, cut, and we don't really know what's going on. We saw everything.
Starting point is 00:03:21 And I really appreciate that about this movie because that takes a lot more set up and a lot more time in regards to stunt and training to get that on camera the way that they did it. I really, really appreciate it. And it's, I love that they made us think that, um, what's his nuts
Starting point is 00:03:38 place was going to be on our side. But then it turns out that, you know, at the end, they're leaving us to, to have a setup for two, which I really love because they must have had a lot of faith in this movie. Well, I mean, it could have ended on that and then not done a second one.
Starting point is 00:03:56 But I think to me it shows that they had faith in this movie, possibly already another idea for Kickass 2 to leave us on that ending where he changes his uniform and there's more superheroes out there, which I thought was just a lot of fun because it's setting him up to be the villain. I loved everything about this movie and Nick Cage also wild when he does his yelling and he goes, he's in the, he's in the warehouse dying, he's burning and he goes child I just Nick Cage is just
Starting point is 00:04:30 one and only love him I love everything about this movie I'm a kick ass girl now I like that also we continue to further prove that in order to be a superhero you have to have a dead parent
Starting point is 00:04:45 exactly DPC girl gpc forever listen the fact that his mom dies of an aneurysm so he gets to be a superhero her mom is already dead now her dad dead she's double DPC like you that's some orphaned superhero you're that's why she's the most kick ass like you um and now christopher mince plaz has dad be dead now you get to be superhero too like every movie ever is like this is the only way that you get to it's Batman man like
Starting point is 00:05:15 come on this is what has to happen this is what happens to Superman this is what happens to all of the people or if you're spider man i'm looking at you aunt may you got to to have that major loss if we're going to root for you. Totally. Every Disney princess. No, but this took a lot of tropes like that and then made it really original. It was fun. It was goofy.
Starting point is 00:05:37 But then there's some really serious heartfelt moments. It's kind of like if the boys wasn't as R-rated and had a baby with the Incredibles, it would be this movie. I totally agree. I agree with that. Yeah, I was thinking like, what would I have a baby with? Incredibles is a really good thing. like more of a family unit kind of thing or the minion or doctor uh wait the minions but what's the i never saw the minions okay uh despicable me despicable me a little bit but i think incredibles is a better
Starting point is 00:06:08 choice uh well just different girlfriend um all that music was great i am waiting right now in these credits to see if uh that song really was by who i thought it was there's so many things that i want to look up Oh, God, when bad reputation came in, yeah, make me want to die. Taylor Monson, that's exactly what it is pretty reckless, yeah. See, you got it. And I knew it. Taylor Momsen is a beast, and I actually saw her perform live. She's such a tank, which she's like a little girly girl in the show,
Starting point is 00:06:34 and then she's a total rocker chick, and I love it. Love that. Okay, so I have things that I want to look up. Let's see if my phone made it through this to see. Look it up, girl. Okay, we got some percentage, so in general, I want to ask you this, favorite character? Oh, hit girl. I mean, how could it not?
Starting point is 00:06:52 It has to be hit girl. I mean, she's just, she is such an amazing actor in this. I mean, everyone did an amazing job. There's not one person in here that didn't make me laugh when they were supposed to, didn't do, didn't work with the tone and the pacing in the exact way that's supposed to be delivered. But for her to come in and be the age she is and understand the nuance, nuances of her lines and her performance, I mean, 10 out 10. I forgot that you just saw this, so it's way more relevant to you. And I should have answered this way when you asked me about who Matthew Vaughn is.
Starting point is 00:07:32 Remember at the beginning? And I said, he did do Kingsman, but he also did X-Men first class, which you just saw, right? Oh, yeah, I saw. It was a few weeks ago, and you guys know what my memory is, but yes. Okay. Well, that was Matthew Vaughn also. Love it. Yeah, he's done a bunch of stuff.
Starting point is 00:07:47 This, honestly, I like Kingsman a lot, but this might be my favorite movie of his. This was so good. I also am curious if this was Chloe Grace Moretz's first role, because this is definitely the youngest. I feel like I've seen her. Youngest I've ever seen her. Okay, I need you to guess something before I actually go into this. Chloe Grace Moretz was born in 97. That would make her 27 years old.
Starting point is 00:08:12 I think that's right. Yep, that would make her 27 years old. How many credits do you think she has an IMD as an actress? probably she's 27 but she did this movie when she was 12 or 13 looks like if she was born in 1997 this came a 20 okay this came out in 2010 I'm going to say 125 never mind she's 76 which I thought is the most I've ever seen of somebody at that age it's so much like because I assume she just was skyrocket so I just watched diary of a wimpy kid with Greg and she was in that too in the first one and she was great but this
Starting point is 00:08:47 was before that. So this is the movie she did directly before that. However, so this was earlier than that. However, she was in several things before that, including 500 days of summer, which is a movie that I love and I don't even remember her in it. I don't remember her either. When I tell you she was in at least 30 movies
Starting point is 00:09:04 before that, I don't even know what to tell you right now. I'm not surprised because you know what, with her performance being this good, I believe in the credits they would have had to say, and introducing. Right. She did two Desperate Housewives episode. She did a movie she did a big mama's house too she did room six she was in an episode of my name is earl she was in a movie called the cure the eye my friends tigger and pooh's friendly tales oh my god
Starting point is 00:09:29 she's been working since she was like four i mean she must have been okay so she's her first on-screen credit is in what year two thousand and four so so she was 97 to 2000 that's three she was three she was seven years yeah seven when it came out right when she filmed it she's always six she's phenomenal uh she is so good she's crazy good she's like upsettingly good in this and i can't even believe like we're going to just be watching her for years and years to come what an absolute stud of the star agreed ladies and gentlemen i'm excited to shout out today's sponsor because it is an app that i have been using since before we partnered with them which just makes my job easy and i just get to share with you something i really do
Starting point is 00:10:15 love and that is the acorns app because money's involved i researched them extensively to make sure like they've got to be legit right you can find so many positive reviews on them there's one person here they themselves gave me a very positive testimony about how it helped get them out of a bind once that they were in and i can say that you know i don't want to actually show my but i have the app just as evidence because one of my favorite things about it is how easy they make it for investing that's something that i think is really important it's really hard to get ahead in life for something like me who doesn't have a 401k who really does need to invest money so that way I don't have to just work for money but have money grow for me, have money work for me. It's an absolutely amazing start. The best
Starting point is 00:10:55 part is you don't need a lot of money to do it. You can literally start with your spare change. They make it easy to automatically start saving and investing for you, your future, your retirement, your kids, whatever it may be that you want to invest money for. Like I say, you don't need a lot of money. You don't even really need expertise, which is the best part. Acorns recommends an expert built portfolio that fits you and your money. goals. Then automatically invest the money for you. So it takes a lot of this stressful decision-making fatigue out of the process. I just love how I can let it do its thing and then I can just check it with my half like a month later, a couple months later, see how they're awesome dollar roundup
Starting point is 00:11:30 or whatever my money investments I've gone into. Literally it's just awesome to see it grow. Plus now you can open an Acorns later IRA and get up to a 3% match on new contributions. So it's extra money for your retirement. Cannot stress it enough. It's made investing, especially as a jumping off point, super easy super stress-free super straightforward it's all about small steps today making a big impact on your future because from acorns muddy oaks do grow grow grow your roke so you can head at acorns.com slash rejects or download the acorns app and start saving and investing for your future there's a link in the description box and pin comment a little disclaimer too i got to say because you know finances involved pay non-client endorsement compensation provides incentive to positively
Starting point is 00:12:07 promote acorns investing involves risk acorns advisor llc and c c register investment advisor view important disclosures at acorns.com slash rejects i highly recommend this app so please go ahead download it thank you again let's see what else is going on with this movie now that we've looked into that a little bit i also want to show you what stanley tucci looks like so that you have a way so i know yeah um but i'll show you that in a little because i love stanley tucci and i was like what is this guy's name well you know mark strong actually better than you think that you know mark strong he really didn't look. He works all the time. Mark Strong. Yeah, the bald guy in this. So in this, the reason why I think you didn't recognize him as much is because in this, he has hair on the side. And in what we know him as now, he is like, fully bald? As bald as bald could be. Okay. Wow. Nothing is working back here right now. And my phone is about to die, which is an absolute bummer. But you want to use my phone? No, no, it's okay. So obviously he knows Matthew Vaughnwell because he was in Kingsman. Yeah. But recently the thing.
Starting point is 00:13:06 that I think you would know most for it. I think you saw Shazam. Yeah, I did. So he's Dr. Savon. He's the main villain in Shazam. Yeah. He is newly in The Penguin, if you're watching that show. I watch the first episode.
Starting point is 00:13:20 Okay, so he played Carmine Falcone in that. He's been in a bajillion things and is not Stanley Tucci, but I see where you're coming from. And this is what he currently looks like, which it looks very different than there. Super handsome man. Yeah. Okay. Let's now go to some taroteroa.
Starting point is 00:13:36 the uh about this movie and see what we can find out and learn um are you ready to this after being rejected by every studio they approached matthew vaughn raised the budget at a dinner party and made the movie independently von ultimately sold the movie to universal for more than he had originally asked them for ha ha ha ha ha ha ha in your fucking face universal sorry I wonder why every studio was like no to this. This just seems like such a great pitch. So good. Before ending up in Lionsgate Studios, the producers of the movie tried several other studios
Starting point is 00:14:14 who all had the same ultimatum. We'll take it if you drop Hit Girl or make her 19. No. The fun of it is how young she is. Exactly. That's weird. Idiots. Yeah, that's really weird.
Starting point is 00:14:28 Hit Girl's first entrance wasn't working as well as it could. So it was Chloe Grace Moretz's own mother present on set throughout filming who suggested that they revert back to the comic book and have her daughter use the word cunt. So it is based on a real comic book. Love that. Nicholas Cage modeled his speech mannerisms for Big Daddy or original Batman 1966, Adam West.
Starting point is 00:14:53 That makes sense. According to Matthew Vaughn, Cage started acting out his lines this way at the first costume fitting. Vaugham was happy for Cage to continue with his performance. performance in the film, citing his irritation with the gravely voice Christian Bail used for the Dark Night. I love Christian in the Dark Night, but I know he's not everyone's favorite Batman at all. Oh, this is funny.
Starting point is 00:15:13 Mark Miller actually prefers the film version to his own comic book. I love that. What a good compliment. Yeah, what a compliment. In response to criticism towards hit girls' character, Chloe Grace Moret, stated in an interview, if I ever uttered one word that I said in kick-ass, I would be grounded for years. I'd be stuck in my room until I was 20. I would never in a million years say that I'm an average everyday girl.
Starting point is 00:15:37 Moretz has said that while filming, she could not bring herself to say the film's title out loud in interviews, instead calling it the film in public and kick butt at home. Oh my God, I love that so much. Chloe Grace Maretz trained extensively with the Toronto Circus School before filming began so she could do most of her own stunts. Chloe did? Wow, that's awesome.
Starting point is 00:16:00 really cool really cool the comic montage of damon mccreedy aka big daddy's past life was illustrated by artist and co-creator john romita junior i loved the way that looked so great job after kickass first meets hit girl we see a big daddy standing in front of a billboard featuring claudia shiffer which is the wife of matthewon oh cool nicholas cage came up with the character's disguise that damon mccreedy would have a mustache while big daddy would have an even larger mustache via adhesive extension. That's so great. It's such a small little thing that, of course, Nick Cage will be like, but this. I can't believe we didn't notice this. The credits give descriptive names to several of DeMiko's, I forget how to say his name, goons for correct character attribution. Five of these goons listed as posh, scary, sporty, ginger, and baby were named for Spice Girls.
Starting point is 00:16:58 Oh, I love that. That's a good little Easter egg there. Oh, this is cool. The Marv logo that opens the film was designed by Matthew Vaughn's children. Ha! Cool. That is great. Because he wanted to make a no-holds-barred, ultra-violent comic book movie,
Starting point is 00:17:12 Matthew Vaughn deliberately chose not to seek funding from any of the major studios. Well, it sounds like he also was turned down. Yeah. That way he figured he would be free from unwanted interference and studio notes. All's well that ends well. Makes sense. The reason this movie is so good because it didn't have to endorse studio. notes because they're all not all of them but a lot of them would have muddle it down i think and it
Starting point is 00:17:34 wouldn't be as cool as it is you ready for this one matthew vaughn did the movie for free but only on condition that he be given the missed mobile after filming was completed in reality he actually finds the car too powerful to drive the mustang that's hilarious i love that and that that is a totally decked out Mustang because yeah the front of it it was a Mustang which they had to do that They had to make the cars come up like a Ferrari. I think the Ferrari, the cars, the doors come up. And that does not happen on a Mustang. Two other people that were considered for the role of Big Daddy,
Starting point is 00:18:08 which was played by Nicholas Case. Do you want me to tell you, who do you want to take some guesses? Oh, I hate guessing, so. Well, give me 10 more seconds. One of them's from Boston. Oh, like, I was going to say Ben Affleck or, like, Matthew, not Matthew McConaughey, the other one, like his best friend. That's who you're thinking of, but it's Mark Wahlberg.
Starting point is 00:18:27 Mark Wahlberg. And the other one was 007. Oh, oh, I love Pearl Bronson. Bronson. His last name is Bronson. His last name is Craig. And it's Daniel Craig. Oh, Daniel Craig.
Starting point is 00:18:42 I was thinking the older 007. Pierce Brosnan. Bronson. Bronson. His last name is Bronson. Just bury me six feet down, you guys, my brain. Okay. Brad Pitt, who is good friends with Matthew Vaugham,
Starting point is 00:18:56 was originally going to play the part of Big Daddy. So that's another one. But instead decided to do Inglorious Bastards directed by Quentin Tarantino. But that's interesting because we saw him on as a producer. Yeah. I love that he came through for his friend, though, just as a producer. Christopher Mintz Plaza originally auditioned for the role of Kickass. Oh.
Starting point is 00:19:13 Yeah, I could see that for sure. Hmm. A lot more stuff going on here. But I think that you guys can do the rest of the searching on your own. Tara, any final thoughts on Kickass? There is a Kickass, too. by the way. I want to watch all the kick asses.
Starting point is 00:19:29 So please like comment and subscribe so we can. I love it. I love it. I'm on board. I want to watch all of them. Yeah, I'm with you, baby girl. I want to see these. That's what Nicholas Cage calls Chloe Grace Moretz.
Starting point is 00:19:40 And yeah, I love that. This was great. I see Kickass 2 right there. Yeah. Okay, so on the cover, we see Chloe Grace Moritz. We see Erin Taylor Johnson. But the other two characters look different. Well, on the right, do you think that's Christopher Mitz-Plaz?
Starting point is 00:19:54 Oh, you could be right. I'm not sure. It's far away. But on the left, I don't know. I don't know either. Introduce the newbies. Maybe they use some of his friends. We don't know.
Starting point is 00:20:03 That'd be cool. But excited to see it, as long as you guys like us enough to do so. Yeah. We'll see you guys later, Rejects.
