Tara Erickson & Aaron Alexander return to Quentin Tarantino’s bloody saga with Kill Bill Vol. 2 (2004), the stylish martial arts action follow-up to Vol. 1. Written & directed by Tarantino (Pulp Fiction, Django Unchained), the film brings Uma Thurman back as The Bride / Beatrix Kiddo, on the final stretch of her roaring rampage of revenge against the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad and, ultimately, Bill himself. Kill Bill Vol. 2 shifts from the non-stop action of the first volume to a more character-driven, dialogue-heavy story that still delivers unforgettable set-pieces — from Beatrix’s brutal desert showdown with Budd, to her intense duel with Elle Driver in the cramped trailer (featuring Pai Mei’s Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique payoff), and the climactic, emotional confrontation with Bill. Famous moments like The Bride being buried alive and clawing her way out of the grave have cemented the film as one of Tarantino’s most unforgettable works. Join us as we react to Tarantino’s unique blend of kung fu, spaghetti western, and grindhouse influences, exploring the performances, themes, and iconic fight scenes in this full spoiler reaction & review! let's see there we are
okay
I'll read the first one
Padrig
Elhart
Do you think
Killbell Volume 2
sacrifice action
for character depth
And was that a smart move
Or let down
After the adrenaline
Of volume 1
Is a good question
He's a good question
What do you think
Aaron?
Huh
And it's interesting
Because I felt like
Part 1 was more of a
fun ride but I think everything from the scene where the two girls are fighting in the trailer
onward was great like all that stuff was phenomenal but I will say because the tone was
established for being so high octane and then just the the flourishes of anime and the energy of
that first half I think I probably preferred that overall as an experience but I really dug
all the character's stuff
and finally getting the answers
in the second half of part two.
So that's all I felt about it.
What about you?
Yeah, they took a hard left.
You know,
I think it's a little bit of a letdown
if you're a big fan of Kale Bell 1.
That's some juice right there.
That's some real action.
You're thinking we're going to
get that gratifying,
vengeance, revenge,
type of vibe.
Because we hadn't ticked
everyone off of her list.
So we assume volume two was just going to finish that journey.
It did, but in a completely different way.
Yeah.
The thing that I think I liked the most about this movie was that when she gets to Pai Mae and
we learned that that punching is what gets her to, you know, unbury herself alive.
That connection, very cool.
Mostly it was, I was very engaged.
just say i was very engaged because all the actors are really good but i will say that the pacing
i was uh you do become a little you become aware of it you know and you in one you don't right in this
one you're like where are we going and when are we going to get to the big action yeah i thought all the
stuff at the the strip club was going to be like more important and we just had that whole scene
kind of just to never go back to have michael madson have some lines yeah that's all my
what it felt like of like okay he lost his job and then he dies i don't yeah i don't really get
the point i maybe you guys and tell us in the comments but i was uh like okay thought this was gonna be
more relevant and it was not yeah i i'm like i'm really trying to think it through now like why
did we show that he goes back home darrell hannah he's like give me the million dollars he
really needs it i guess he lost the job but he doesn't really need it because he lives in a desert
in a freaking, I don't know.
Yeah, you're right.
I really tried to work it through right then to go,
what did we miss?
What did he say?
They didn't really miss much.
No?
Yeah.
Well, I mean, for me,
it was a little bit of a letdown,
yes, from the adrenaline of volume one.
I do, however,
really like the storytelling in this one.
Just the pacing was a little slow for me,
not the same movie.
So, yeah, that's where I'm at with it.
Um, you want to read the next one?
Sure.
Mike Joyce, which would you like more?
Kill Bill, Volume 1 or Kill Bill volume 2?
I think overall, as a from start to finish experience, even though it's not a complete story,
I think I enjoyed part one more overall, but all of the stuff where Beatrix and Bill finally
come face to face was my favorite stuff out of both experiences.
Oh, interesting.
Yeah, yeah.
I think the action was great, but yeah.
I think just he was such a captivating performer.
We didn't really get any of him in part one.
But all that stuff, like I love just actors going at it, even though if it's not, it wasn't
like high octane per se, but, you know, getting to the truth, the honesty of what their
situation was, was really interesting to me.
Because it felt like with the first movie, like the whole long scene before we get
to Lucy Lou's character, all that stuff was fun, but I felt like, um,
I feel like the purpose of action is one to be cool, but two, to advance the story.
I kind of like musicals, you know, should tell you something about the plot or do something to advance the story and be cool.
And I felt like a lot of it was just cool, but I felt like the stuff with Bill and Beartrex was cool, interesting, and relevant to the overall story.
And I feel like knowing all of that will change how you view it going back to volume one.
Yeah, I mean, we kind of needed that juice right here where we first are with them at the campfire.
It's the longer scene.
She's smiling at him almost as like she has she admires him.
She loves him in a way, right?
And we realized like, oh, and he got her this opportunity with with pay me.
and I think that gets us, graduates us to the end
so that we do feel when she starts to cry
and she feels like she's happy.
She knows what she's done.
She was very much going to give him
the five-finger fist palm heart explosion thing.
But she's still sad because of that relationship.
We wouldn't have known the sadness as much
had we not been given the story
that they gave us here into.
So we needed that.
And I do agree with you.
you. It was really engaging, I think he had a full probably three pages that was mostly just
his dialogue, which he delivered it in really well. The second she gets a true serum,
I guarantee you, they wrote out that monologue to be two minutes. It felt like a two full
minutes that he was talking and then he said, you can take it out of your leg. I would not be
surprised if I rewatch this and went, okay, it's in there and it gets exactly two minutes. I would
assume they're the type of filmmakers that would be like yeah all right um which is just it's a vibe
and i liked it but i do i liked one better it was just the fight scene is like that's my that's my jam
there i love really good acting i just i think you know from this one her punching herself out
that's awesome i just i really like the gratifying like let's just kill these people and i really
liked that she killed the guy who was juicing her in the hospital and you know we so good and
I mean the five finger thing that was a lot of fun we knew we saw that awesome but I think I'm still I still go
with one um all right Mike Joyce sent us another question would you want to see kill bill three
potentially with umber thurman returning and her real life daughter Maya hawk playing her daughter in
the movie oh she was married to Ethan hawk yeah
Ah, yeah, I forgot about that.
They're not married, though, anymore, right?
That was a long, okay.
I don't think so.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, okay.
I mean, considering Bill's dead,
I don't know where they would go with the volume three.
It doesn't seem like that's the kind of life she wants for her daughter,
given that that's the whole reason she left in the first place.
So would I be mad at seeing more of this character than, you know,
her daughter reprising that role?
Sure.
I would, no, I wouldn't be mad at it, but I'd,
only wanted if it made sense.
Yeah, I would be interested to see where it goes because the little girl who grabs a goldfish
on the carpet and smushes on it, that's what I would want to explore.
Is she a sociopath or is she just a kid who didn't know?
Right?
You're like, oh, fish, I want to play with you.
But we didn't get any of that explanation.
The kid just sat there and went like, she did a weird thing with her hand when they were like,
oh, and you knew it was you took it to the carpet.
and what was it doing, flapping.
Like, she knew, like, it was like, and then you stepped on it.
Like, it was weird.
It was weird.
It was very weird.
Totally kept me, like, ugh.
And then you forget about it because she's just how happy with her mom.
But I'm like, that's where I would want to go.
Is she a sociopath?
And now is it in her, in her blood to be a killer?
She's bred by two killers.
So let's freaking go.
I'd be with it.
You know?
All right.
You want to read the next.
one?
Yeah, saccharin.
Is there a chapter of either
volume that sticks out to you in particular?
And if so, why?
I've always been partial to the cruel
tutelage of Pimei, and I'm
curious what both of you would say
the strongest chapter given
character development, plot, tone,
action, direction, acting,
etc.
Huh.
That's, huh.
I think there was the last chapter
for me.
Because, yeah, I think
finally getting to the point of seeing why this I don't know I like the the complexity of it
because you see that this dude is a powerful person always in control but then seeing the fact
that she she loved this dude but realized that oh if I'm going to have a life for myself
that I need to distance myself from him but also being kind of like sad at the same time
that he's gone because there is still love there was an interesting
flourished to the story
and her character that I'd not expect.
So that was my personal favorite part,
but I think that action-wise,
there's a lot of great stuff between both movies.
Yeah, that scene
towards the end, not the final fight,
but which is killing all the guys.
For peer action alone, that was
like my favorite action scene, but the
end scene where, you know, they're talking
in the different monologues, the superhero
monologue, all that stuff was my favorite.
stuff yeah i'm with you on that i mean because you gave us and rack you're like
giving character development plot tone action directing i'm like oh if it's all together um
you know we didn't get much like i guess character development when we go in that killing
scene and one which is my also one of my favorite scenes it's just so freaking awesome
actually the anime part was my favorite oh okay
Oh, yeah, that was great.
That had a lot of also character development
where we see where they were coming from.
Yeah, and just the way it was creative was very cool.
I didn't know that that was part of this at all.
It was a great surprise, and it was like kind of rum-rum of edges.
But in the way it was executed, it was really interesting.
It made me want to see a spinoff of whatever that was.
Yeah, no, I agree.
I thought, yeah, the anime part was cool.
It's interesting.
They didn't bring any of that back into, but I mean, it's fine.
It's just a, it's a style choice.
Yeah, I mean, put all those together.
I mean, it would have to be somewhere in this, in number two.
Only because I'm trying to add in everything that you gave me in regards to like character
development, plot, tone, action, directing, acting.
Some of the strongest acting, but it's because they solely had time was in two.
We're not just like fighting the whole time.
we're doing a lot of background work um but uh yeah i guess i would say the fight scene and
or i don't know when she freaking kills the guy in the hospital i love it character development
she's like wiggle your big toe wiggle her big toe and then she freaking let's go she wills it
i love that that was a lot of fun oh yeah rejagnation it's time for me to tell you that if you're
still overpaying for wireless it's time to say yes
to saying no, I've joined this family.

a safari what are your thoughts on bill's monologue on superman it used to be a huge debate on the
internet whether the interpretation of the cape crusaders accurate personally i don't agree with it
but i understand why someone like bill would view superman that way also this is a little nitpick
The gay crusader's Batman, but I see the sentiment.
I appreciate you.
I don't think it's a critique.
I think he loves humanity.
I think that's just kind of Bill's cynical take on it.
But I think that he's trying to truly blend in.
He doesn't want to be perceived as a threat, both as Clark and as Superman.
So I think that he does that so he can be more approachable.
And I just saw an interview recently with David Corn Sweat,
and they were debating if they were going to have Superman with a Trump.
in this newest version of Superman in 2025,
or if he was not going to have it in David Corns.
So it was like, yeah, I think he should have the trunks
because he is someone who is all-powerful,
so he wears it to not scare children.
I think that's an excellent,
both narrative reason and actor reason
for Superman to not want to be more lovable
and wear those.
But, yeah, I disagree with the bill,
but I understand why he would think that.
the line that I really agreed with
he was like Clark Kent
that's his costume and I was like
yeah totally absolutely 100%
I'm down with Bill's argument
like with that part I was like
hell yeah that's true
because he was born in his like
basically Superman suit
even though we know he has to
but I really
that was the line that sold me on it
I'm not saying I would
absolutely be like 100%
that monologue is like
explain Superman
because you guys know
I'm gone through
the Superman series
with Andrew
but I did like that line a lot
and I do think
that that is 100% accurate
that one line
about the Clark Kent
I really like that
okay
that's all for our patron questions
what are your other thoughts
on this?
I'm going to look up
some trivia
do you have any
talk us through
how you feel
about this whole thing
I was surprised
to say the least by this movie
given, you know, how exciting
and cool the first half was.
It was definitely pretty slow for me
in that first half of it.
You know, I was like, okay, where are we going?
You know, we're not getting a lot of action
because the first movie kind of taught us,
oh, this is what this is.
There's a lot of flair to it.
A lot of stylistic choices with the audio.
I found interesting,
but this one just had a lot of slow
scenes, a lot of
dialogue, give us
some more insight and more
background into the stuff we
were following, you know, give us more history
into who the bride was.
But overall, I
think that all that stuff, or at least
a lot of it, was
important to get us to where
we were at the end of that scene
with Bill. From the moment she
walks in there and sees the daughter and Bill
on the ground and then her playing along
I was like, oh, this is really different.
This is really interesting.
Through his death, I thought all that stuff was great.
I did think some of the stuff was maybe a little excessive or maybe went on a little long, you know?
Kind of, you know, he's, listen, obviously it's your movie.
It's Quentin's movie.
He can do whatever he wants.
But I was like, okay, let's, you know, let's, let's tighten it up a little bit.
Like the whole shot with Beatrix at the end.
That went on for a few minutes.
And I was like, okay, what's, well, what are we doing here?
What's going on?
And then, oh, she's winked.
Okay, cool.
Yeah.
But, yeah, I think that it was still very well made.
And, yeah, that's one of those things where you got to watch it as a whole experience now,
especially knowing what the ending is.
But yeah, I liked it.
I didn't love it as much as I loved one, but it was still very enjoyable.
Yeah.
What about you?
I, yeah, I mean, one's definitely my favorite.
I do like the character development in this.
I mean, my most favorite thing is just adding up the Pai Mae thing,
her going through hell to learn a useful skill
and then punching her way out of almost being buried alive.
And she does end up getting, you know, her revenge.
It's like she comes back from hell two, three times,
which I really like.
You almost feel like she's indestructible,
which when you look at like a mom,
that's how most moms would be,
perceived almost because having kids is like hard that they're almost you have to be indestructible
um and so i really like the the tag at the end that was like mommy i thought that was really sweet
because she just she went through all this to get to that and she actually won she won she ticked
all those off her freaking list she got there which i think is cool so i'm down with that um i wanted to read
one thing that I found. Oh.
In 2018, Uma Thurman posted footage online of a car accident that occurred in 2002 while
filming this movie. At the time, Thurman had voiced her reservations about filming a scene
while driving a car over a straight dirt road and had requested a stunt performer. However,
since the scene was not considered to be a stunt and the stunt coordinator was not on set
that day, Quentin Tarantino persuaded her to shoot the scene herself. While driving the car man,
Gia, there was an unexpected turn in the road causing Thurman to lose control of the car and crash it into a tree.
Holy shit. Leaving her with a concussion and damaged knees. She tried to obtain the footage as proof,
but Harvey Weinstein reportedly refused to release it unless she signed a document that would release
the company from any liability. Years later, Tarantino finally gave her the footage and helped her come forward in the wake of
multiple sexual assault charges against Weinstein, with Thurman also claiming to be one of his
victims.
Thurman and Taratino admitted that the incident had caused a breach and trust, which affected
their working relationship for several years.
But they reconciled afterwards and have been on good terms ever since.
Wow.
Wow.
That's insane.
That just shows you how much power an EP has, an executive producer.
Okay, when we, every time I go, oh, if we see a writer and they also directed it, I go, cool, it probably will be good because they get their ideas out there.
And if I ever think like, oh, God, that was really bad.
I think, well, maybe they were a bad director, but most of the time it came from above producers are like, can't do that.
It should be more of this and they mess up the story.
That's a whole other thing.
But this is just like the power of them.
They can change the, like, honestly, the script and the either greatness or crappiness of your film, but also just mess with relationships, so hardcore.
And, I mean, that's just him, Weinstein saving his ass so they don't get sued.
But at this point, they were the Weinstein brothers.
They had millions of dollars.
Yeah.
They could have paid her.
They could have, but no.
Oh, isn't that?
They want to abuse their power.
Right.
And now they're in jail.
Isn't that wild?
It really is.
And Uma Thurman, I guess, and Darryana, they didn't get along with each other.
They reportedly instructed the hotel and cinema staff to ensure they were kept separate from each other during the press store for volume one.
They were at odds at the film screening at the Cannes Film Festival.
They ordered separate areas to be created at the after show party.
And then when the two women won best fight at the 2005 MTV Awards, only Darrell attended.
Uma's absence was conspicuous, considering she had gone the previous year to collect the award for a fight against Shiakiaki.
Curriama in volume one.
Wow. Drama on this set.
Drama. Maybe let's go to some spoilers.
There's not a ton of likes on these trivia things.
So I don't know how great they are.
That's why I'm trying to get the spoilers for us.
So we can get some juice going here.
All right.
Okay.
Despite the bride's name being bleeped out and kill Bill,
and for two-thirds of this movie,
her name is spoken or revealed on
more than one occasion. When someone calls her Beatrix and it's bleep, it's simply muffled
and is still audible. And if you're good at reading lips, you may be able to figure it out.
Also, Bill refers to the bride as kiddo in the flashback scenes. While this is both his pet
name for her and common term of endearment, it's also her last name. Yeah, okay. I wanted to
know why. Yeah. The reason. That's what I thought we were getting to. Nope. Not so much.
Just like, hey, you could have got it if you read lips.
Okay, despite the bride having a Hadori Hanzo crafted a sword specifically for her to exact revenge,
she only uses it successfully once against Cottonmouth and the Crazy 88 and Kale Bell Volume 1.
And, oh yeah, and the bride's all over other targets were killed by other means.
True.
Oh, okay, one more.
In the scene where Beatrix kiddo is being buried alive, the master shot has the pickups headlights,
illuminating the graveyard.
On the right of the screen, the exhumed bodies,
oh yeah, gnarled hand cast a bunny-shaped shadow on its coffin.
We might have seen that.
Okay.
Some of these are, they're okay.
They're not the greatest trivia that I've read.
You got something?
Yeah, got some rotten tomatoes for you.
All right, let's go.
Rotten tomatoes for volume one.
Should I guess?
Yeah.
Okay.
I'm going to go for critics.
I will go 76
and I'll go audience 88.
Okay.
For critics, 85, volume 1.
Audiences 81.
No, okay.
Now for volume 2.
Yeah, for volume 2.
Well, the storytelling, I guess, you know,
I'll go critics, 70.
Flat 70. I don't know.
Okay.
And I'll go audience.
73. I don't know.
Critics, 84.
Okay.
Yeah.
Percentage lower.
And audiences were 89.
Really?
Yeah.
They liked audiences like part two more than part one, which is surprising.
Hey, wow.
Look at them go.
They like that emotion.
They like that storytelling.
They like the tone.
I will agree with you
that building up to how the hell
she got unburied alive and she has gone
through hell and back and she finds these people and she
still ticks her boxes. I really
think it's the mommy thing in the end.
Yeah. Right? That's a really good way
to loop it back around because we kept
hearing, you know, she's pregnant, it's her
daughter, where are we headed? She's a killer.
Bill's a killer. We've got to kill Bill.
We don't realize who we really get to the
end of two that that's really
what we were fighting for the whole time.
Well, she didn't know that. Yeah.
She's fighting to kill Bill, but they don't touch it or address it since the end of part one.
Totally.
When she finally sees it, it's very rewarding.
It comes together.
Yeah, I think that that's a, it is a really pretty bow tie and really sweet at the end.
Yeah.
It's cute.
Well, I mean, I loved both of them.
One is just my favorite because I just like to see revenge kills.
It's just like so satisfying.
But this one had a great story, and they did a good job, so I'm not surprised why the rating was super high.
That's what I got to say.
I had fun with these.
I mean, Quentin is...
He's such a stylistic, like, style-type director that it's only him who makes certain moves
with certain camera angles and zoom-ins and the way that he crops a frame, why, and crops out.
I know that there's reasonings behind it.
I don't have enough time to really dissect it, but Quentin does his thing and I enjoy it.
Yeah, I'd say the same.
I'd be curious to watch it.
a behind the scenes or a director's commentary
about these movies
