Starting point is 00:01:03 It's time to go to school. Kindergarten Cove. Yeah. I would never have guessed like kid movie romantic lead action Arnold. No, we've encompassing all the things. And at the start, he was pure Arnold. Right. That was a really great arc.
Starting point is 00:01:22 That was good. That was a good movie. I understand why it's a classic now. Yeah. I feel bad at points I talked over Exposition. I apologize. I got excited. but that's how good it was.
Starting point is 00:01:31 I was so enveloped in moments that it really, I don't know. A lot like my cousin Vinnie felt it was earned in its legacy that I missed out on and some movies it's hard to rediscover. Like if you didn't grow up on it, you're like,
Starting point is 00:01:46 eh. Like it's not the great. Yeah, whereas this was, you know, heartwarming, pleasant of the time but not dated. And it felt like it's weird because I feel like this is a hyperbole that gets overused now, but they don't make them
Starting point is 00:02:01 like this anymore. It's set all the time. It's not usually said about the genre, because I don't even think people talk about the genre. No. Like, it's a really unique thing to have so many setups and moving parts and this music. They don't make movies that, like, I don't even know how I'd describe this in the
Starting point is 00:02:17 theater. This wouldn't get a wide release. Oh, definitely not, no. Today this would be like a direct-to-streaming kind of movie. Yeah. And yeah, and I don't even know, like, what the audience, how do you would market a movie like this today. Yeah. You know, because Scored it. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:02:31 Who scored this movie, man? PBS themselves scored this movie. Yeah, how would you describe the genre? Oh, like, a heartwarming action comedy? There wasn't even a lot of action. So, like, maybe just heartwarming comedy. But it was action enough that, like,
Starting point is 00:02:47 is this one that turned down? No, no, no. The other one. Yeah, that's one. There we go. We're learning how to produce here. I'm real rejects without people. That's why no one's over here.
Starting point is 00:02:56 I got to flail. Yeah, I'd say, like, heartwarming for sure but there was some action in the beginning the first 20 minutes was almost all action true yeah okay yeah
Starting point is 00:03:05 like action comedy heartwarming heartwarming action dromedy yeah they don't make them like that because we don't know what to call it no it's its own genre
Starting point is 00:03:14 but that that is really unique I think to the 90s because if we look at my cousin Vinny that wasn't action but it was uniquely comedic drama procedural like the
Starting point is 00:03:24 I think they trusted audiences more to be more things yeah I also What was it was rated art? No, it had to be PG-13. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:32 I feel like this would be PG today if they did it. This would definitely not rate it. It'd be less edgy. Definitely. There was some edge here. They'd probably like put the rock or like Alan Richards.
Starting point is 00:03:41 Vin Diesel and the Rock had what? The Rock had, um, tooth fairy. I thought that was Vin, right? He was Pacifier. Oh, thank you.
Starting point is 00:03:49 Yeah, one was one. Yeah. So those are probably the closest thing akin to these. Yeah. Like 2000s is like the farthest we would go. Yeah. And I don't, and those are probably mirroring them.
Starting point is 00:03:58 totally because you can look at like there's that scene in walking tall have you seen walking tall it's an old school rock movie like when he was just starting out yeah with when he had hair and there's there's a scene where like uh arnold like passes the torch of action start him like there's an arnold cameo and there's literally a moment where he's like it's all yours or something like and i was like oh and i rewatch it like 10 years ago and i was like oh like there's actually an acknowledgement of it oh wow so i feel like those two movies were definitely in the spirit of this okay but i haven't seen this yet and i haven't seen i don't think i've actually seen either of those but when i think about
Starting point is 00:04:28 the like poster and the vibe from the trailer that's very much this rare you know kids movie action star thing yeah yeah it's definitely a rarity these days this looks interesting there's commercials on now guys this commercials on now we're watching on it's on Netflix yeah it's definitely like a rarity seeing movies of this genre and you know it's it's rare that you see something that's both accessible to kids but also appeals to adults yeah that has heart in the live action vein, because you don't see it too often. Like, maybe Spider-Verse,
Starting point is 00:05:03 but, like, that's, that's a comic book movie. That's Spider-Man, you know. Yeah, because the IP is what sells things now, not the movie star. Right. So it has to be superhero slash space drama for Guardians or superhero slash heist movie for Ant-Man, but the IP is the thing.
Starting point is 00:05:21 You can't make a comedy drama kids movie that Arnold sells. Right. So I don't think you can do this type of thing because the hero element. Like you can't make a, I mean, a Young Avengers is not going to be quite this. It's just, I don't think this kind of movie
Starting point is 00:05:36 is what would get people to spend 15 bucks at theater anymore. No, no. Like I said, this would be like a streaming kind of movie. Yeah, and I personally don't find that they invest quite as much like heart effort and time into the average streaming movie.
Starting point is 00:05:48 There's outliers and everything. But I don't find that, you know, we'll see a Netflix original that's going to feel quite like it has this going. No, no. I think that this is something that is very much unique like that I wonder if
Starting point is 00:06:01 you know if like maybe this would be like a series I don't know I also I mean I love all the relationships and I think that's a big strength of it is the relationships are so immediate that it's almost cliche but then they earned the cliche just like the music like yeah there's so many moments with the principle where you're like ha that's the cheesy trope
Starting point is 00:06:20 but it like works because you're so invested the relationship between the two of them like I kept stressing I don't think you could have so immediately forgiven him without the way they'd written precisely that ending and like I love the third act reveal of the mom having a controlling element of him that establishes like why she'd go
Starting point is 00:06:36 into drug dealing like it gave her a backstory in one scene. Yeah and it's not something that's necessarily needed but it adds a lot of flavor to like the larger lives of what these characters are when they're not on. Yeah. Which I really appreciate. You know, I like that we get to all these extra details
Starting point is 00:06:52 that add these these things to just make us more endeared or more make them feel like more real. Like at lethal weapon, I care as much about the Murta's as Riggs and Murtae himself. Like, I care about the family. And, like, there's details about their house
Starting point is 00:07:05 and details about, like, stuff, magnets in their fridge and, like, you care about the cat. Like, you're invested in the family and therefore you care about the movie more. I feel like that's what we've lost. Yeah. Why do you think they don't make movies like that anymore?
Starting point is 00:07:15 I think that audiences don't have the patience for more. Like, I feel like they care about, like, give me two leads. Give me three leads. Like, we're so move the plot along that people don't want. on errant sides.
Starting point is 00:07:27 Well, do you think that's what it is, or do you think that's what studios think that's what it is? Because I think it's a combination. Because if you look at, like, Twitter, there's that discourse of, like, why are things got sex or why is this scene? And there's that, like, Oppenheimer thing. I keep seeing pop up where it's like, uh, have you seen Oppenheimer? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:42 There's a scene in Oppenheimer where Killian Murphy is sitting naked and it reveals, like, a vulnerability. And then there's the sex scene in the courtroom that shows, like, betrayal and fidelity. And it's a sex scene. So there's all this talk of, like, that's an excessive scene, not necessarily. no no it's exactly a vulnerability it's exactly like it is the most necessary but since it's not a scene that is exactly to the plot that is the a plot a lot of people are like cut it right and i think that has gotten exponentially more problematic so it's like we don't want as much investment in the bad guy we don't want as much investment in the love story we don't we just want to like is he a teacher and then he saves a deck like i i think we've i think the internet has aggressively shortened our attention spans in any medium And therefore, like, we want a script to be a certain amount of lean, a certain amount of subtext, a certain amount of, but things like Dune are helping. Things like, you know, Oppenheimer are helping, but they feel more rare.
Starting point is 00:08:36 And then we be cut in the opposite end of that spectrum is like we get things like Madam Webb where they don't care of us. Don't have anyone doing anything. Anyone do anything. And half the dialogue's explanation already seen on screen. Exactly. It doesn't trust the audience even know what they're doing. Like, I am now standing up. Okay.
Starting point is 00:08:49 And you're like, yeah, I get that. But I feel like that's, you're right. That's the other extreme. And I'm worried that we won't get things. that are just movies. I don't want everything to be like the next thing, the next thing, the next thing. I want to just like, I would have left this in the theater
Starting point is 00:09:03 and been like, I feel good. And that would have been everything. Yeah. Also, something movies don't do anymore. It's like the fact that it's just like a solitary experience. I don't want more. I don't need another one. I love what I got.
Starting point is 00:09:13 There's probably kindergarten top two and it's played by some action star of the 2000. And it went to straight to DVD. Yeah, yeah, I'm sure that's out there where it's like substitute teacher A. Or, you know what I mean? But Stephen's a goal. Right, right.
Starting point is 00:09:24 The first grade teacher. It's like the next year And like some of those students saw some stuff They're like stranger There's like a callback Right, right That'd be it But or one of those kids grows up
Starting point is 00:09:34 To be a first grade teacher It gets Like you see that The kid that got beat Goes into policing Because he loved his mom And wanted to see no one get hurt Like his mom did
Starting point is 00:09:44 And then he's got to go undercover And be a first grade teacher Okay First grade teacher 20 years later Arnold's got a scene Where he's the principal now It's one scene
Starting point is 00:09:53 That's all they can afford It's Alan Richardson He's playing Yes Alan Richardson is the first grade teacher. But I do think, like, the scene with the lasers, they wouldn't use that anymore. Like, I don't think some of those scenes in, not saying this won't ever happen again. I hate the, like, they'd never make city slickers.
Starting point is 00:10:11 But I'm saying, like, we don't see it as often. I feel like there were more movies per year that were better. Yeah. And, like, there's outwires. I think 2023 was one of the best movies in cinema in years. But that was due to so many variables like the strike. and, like, the pandemic, like, the year got pushed to where that a lot came out. But I just, I don't feel like there's many classics because everything is still available.
Starting point is 00:10:35 Like, I talk about all the time how streaming has made everything available. So nostalgia is a commodity, not a thing that actually happens. We can access everything. That's why, like, if you look at, um, dazed and confused, that would be set with the class of 2007 today. Like, if they made days and confused today, the distance between when that came out and when that movie was set is the exact distance from now, 2007. So it would be the class of 2007. I would not be able to tell that much of a difference Other than people not having as much cell phones
Starting point is 00:11:00 Clothing is so similar, music's a lot more similar We haven't changed that much I think because we're in a state of arrested development With entertainment because everything is accessible at all times Kindergarten cop was something that had to record it off TV It might have been a VHS you own But that would cost you a 40 bucks Because that's how much things worked
Starting point is 00:11:14 I feel like we have so much access to so many things We don't have time for things to become classic Because we move past them so quickly Big thanks to G-feel for continuing this awesome partnership We've got going on I've joked about, well, a truth, actually. I've consistently taken less pay in order to get a bigger bulk order of G-fuel. Reason being, I actually sought this partnership out myself since I'd already been a long-time G-fuel user.
Starting point is 00:11:35 And you may have already noticed whether before or during filming, there's a good chance I or my co-hosts are being energized by G-fuel. And as someone who's become especially passionate about mental and physical health, especially during our 10-12-hour workdays, this has been a lifesaver. It really does stand out for being healthier than other options. No sugar, no gluten. And more importantly, no crash. which helps keeps me focused and energized. And there's a few of the hosts here who generally don't like energy drinks. But now, every day, they take from the stash.
Starting point is 00:12:00 And I'm happy they like it, but I hate having less on my shelf. I've got to learn to say no. But lately, I've been more into the tubs than the cans. Weird sentence to say, but it's true because of the efficiency. Also, the variety for blending options. Because they have a wide range of flavor. Sometimes I use it for pre-workouts or blending into my shakes. Usually I can just take my time drinking it or down really quick,
Starting point is 00:12:16 especially for that essential afternoon boost. And what's more than one I've become especially reliant on lately, are their hydration drinks. I use them about one to two times daily. They help replenish electrolytes, have no caffeine, but still help with that focus and energy. Honestly, these drinks have been a game changer in our lives. And sincerely, they've helped me reduce stress and boost overall well-being. Because here's the real deal. If you value your health and are looking for that consistent, clean energy to power you through the day, G-fuel really is the answer. All I can say is trust me, once you try G-fuel, you'll notice the difference in your energy level, focus, and
Starting point is 00:12:46 just overall performance. Don't just take my word for it. Give it a shot and feel the change for yourself so you can visit the link in the description box or the pink comment gfuel.com slash discount slash reject nation to get 20% off select tubs thank you again gfuel it's been a great like year so partnering up with you drink you every day yeah no there's like this um this thing of like i don't know i feel also living like an age of like constant nostalgia like there's a nostalgia for like the last year yeah yeah yeah what was that movie that was set during uh have you seen a dumb money uh i i saw a little bit of it so it's about it's about the GameStop stock.
Starting point is 00:13:21 It feels like a period piece. Exactly. Just two years ago. We have nostalgia for right now. Exactly. Because there's no nostalgia, it's all nostalgia. Also, we're living through like a period of constant trauma. So I feel like there's a nostalgia for like, oh, remember the 2010s?
Starting point is 00:13:35 Yeah, they sucked. But like they were better. But like we didn't idolize. I don't know. That's another longer video. But I do think kindergarten cop is an example of when we took the time to let things be classics. Like we took the time to let things have their own pace. and rhythm and not have to set stuff up
Starting point is 00:13:51 and just be a really well-written story and a thing that doesn't have to be so well-written. It is better because of it, but not every movie's going to be able to have that many side characters and moving plots and A plot, B, plot, C-plot, because it trusted the audience to love these characters. Yeah, also something that this movie did that thought was really
Starting point is 00:14:08 smart is because we're so accustomed as an audience to seeing Arnold at this point in his career be like the tough guy all the time to contrast that with seeing him be like light and fun and very, like, sensitive. sear, I think that's also what elevated the movie to be more enjoyable because he is someone who is not particularly known for that type. And the fact that he's able to do that and sell it
Starting point is 00:14:30 brilliantly only added to the enjoyment of the film. Yeah, I feel like this is what jingle all the way, like why jingle all the way exists. I've not seen that way either. I remember some of it. It's so vague in my memory. I just remember he was hunting a toy for his kid. Like that's all I really remember. But like that I think this allowed him to show a sensitive side. And I was really impressed at his acting in this. He got cast effectively against type, but that's the only way the movie sells is what if Arnold was a teacher. This wouldn't work with just Joe Schmo off the street.
Starting point is 00:14:57 So casting against type and letting him be the action star in the beginning that was effectively Terminator. This was Breaking Bad. It went from Scarface. I mean, it went from the guy from Chips to Scarface. This was, what if a guy goes from Terminator to a kindergarten teacher? Yeah. Yeah, yeah, totally.
Starting point is 00:15:11 Kindergarten cop is breaking bad. That is my review. Confirmed. Kindergarten cop is Breaking Bad for teachers. he broke good kindergarten cops breaking good that's what this is so uh it's still relevant to the movie but like as someone who's obviously like super big into comic books as well do you feel like do you watch movies and you just wonder like who would this guy play if you were in a you were a comic book character i do um i do accidentally like my subconscious i have so many characters in my head that i am always
Starting point is 00:15:42 thinking of like comics because i'm always in them so like inherently that pops up yeah i'm like I don't know who, like, seeing Arnold in the 90s, I'm like, who would Arnold play if you were like a comic Oh, man, Arnold in the 90s would have been a great cable. Ooh. Like, I know he's not old, but like, if you aged up cable, like if you aged up Arnoldably, like, that era to let him do the action or everything else, I always think of like the way he's moving his Terminator was like a really cool
Starting point is 00:16:05 cable. That's a great choice. Yeah, that's what I would have gone with. Damn, no matter. We don't have that. I also love, like, doing time period casting. I think it's really fun to, like, think of, like, what people would be in that time. like they're like michael j foxes peter parker
Starting point is 00:16:18 oh like you know what i mean like i would love if we'd had Val Kilmer was Cyclops to me forever oh that's been so good like there's certain characters I'm like that would have been great like 90s Denzel could have been Nick Fury oh in a second or 2000 Zenzel as a bishop oh imagine like
Starting point is 00:16:35 post training day into the Equalizer era that time frame Denzel is Bishop oh shit okay that'd have been cool I still want Method man you'd be meth like you don't meth man today I want the man is Bishop so bad
Starting point is 00:16:47 Is he still acting? I hope so He wants to play Bishop So I want him to play Bishop Does he really? Oh he's lobbying He's done full photo shoots And Bishop Garb
Starting point is 00:16:55 Really? That man wants to be Bishop so bad Oh wow The editors right now are like What do you guys do Well kindergarten cop Getting back to the As we wrap out
Starting point is 00:17:03 Kindergarten Cop breaking good The sequel to Breaking Bad But with Arnold as a kindergarten teacher It was a genre that I don't think exists as strongly anymore I'm sure there are outliers It is a type of movie That I miss very dearly
Starting point is 00:17:14 It is so heartwarming and fun And I really, this is one of the movies where I say this more often as I get older, but I don't have kids, but this is something I look forward to showing my kids. Like, I really loved the heartwarming and the nature of it all. And it feels like a really good family movie at a certain age. Like, not too early. But, like, as you get into it, and I really love that this type of thing exists. So let us know below what you think of kindergarten cop.
Starting point is 00:17:35 You love it overall? I love it. Yeah, it was great. Had a great time. Let us know what you think. Let us know if there's anything else you want us to watch. If there are other movies like kindergarten cop, we have other blind spots, especially with like 80s, 90s, 2000s action
Starting point is 00:17:45 that have this heart. Let us know in the comments below. Please share this video out and keep making them. Much love to you patrons over in Super Sexy Reject Nation and so much love to all you rejects in general. This was fantastic. Who is your daddy? What does he do?
Starting point is 00:17:57 And I finally found out what it's not a tumor is from. Much love, Reject Nation. We'll see you soon. Gabriel, my friend. So we got this memo way too late. You said that, hey, it's my birthday coming up. In March, and it was like a couple weeks ago. I am sorry.
Starting point is 00:18:19 We just saw it now, and we are getting the shout out to you so late. But I wanted to say, happy belated birthday. It is the season of spring break, and I can only imagine what a nasty person like you is doing on your spring break. You're probably going to church. You're probably praying to the Lord and Savior. You finally did it. We convinced you. We did the act of evangelism and convinced you to finally get your ass seated at the pews of the Lord.
Starting point is 00:18:52 Yes, Fissures of Men, baby. I am so proud of you, my friend. This is the way you get to heaven afterwards. All right. So, Gabriel, I hope you're having a fantastic time. I hope that for your birthday, you got lots of cupcakes and a lot of holy water, too, that you were able to turn into wine. That's what a lot of people don't tell you, Gabriel, is that once you, once you're going to be. convert you get the powers of jesus right away and so i'm excited for you to use these mystical
Starting point is 00:19:18 powers for your own self-benefit let's face it man if you could walk on water you're not doing it to heal anyone you're doing it to impress the ladies am i right i mean that's how this is what you got to do or guys i don't know which way that's the way that's the way hesus rolled in that's the way you're going to roll gabriel so gabriel happy belated birthday i hope you had a wonderful time hope you didn't party too much and i hope you're able to celebrate with a lot of loved ones, most important one being your new Lord and Savior, God. Reject that.
