Greg Alba joins Tara Erickson & Andrew Gordon (Cinepals) for their reaction after they covered Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, War For The Planet Of The Apes, And 1968 Planet Of The Apes! The story takes place 300 years later. The world is now ruled by apes, and humans have been reduced to a primitive state. The protagonist, Noa, is a young chimpanzee on a quest to find the truth about his world and his people. He discovers an ancient human artifact that could change everything—technology that could give apes the upper hand in their struggle against the remaining humans. The antagonist, Proximus Caesar, a power-hungry bonobo, wants to use the human technology to rule over all apes, resembling the Tony Soprano of the ape world, only with more fur and less pasta. Noa sets out on a journey to find the truth about the artifact and his people, meeting a colorful cast of characters along the way, including Nova, a feral human girl who becomes Noa's companion; Raka, an orangutan who helps Noa on his quest; and Trevathan, a human advisor to Proximus Caesar. The twist reveals that Proximus Caesar is a descendant of Caesar, the original leader of the ape revolution, akin to Darth Vader of the ape world, only with more fur and less breathing problems. In the climax, Noa and his allies face off against Proximus Caesar and his army in a battle reminiscent of "The Lord of the Rings" meets "Planet of the Apes," but with more bananas and less jewelry. Noa defeats Proximus Caesar and destroys the human technology, preventing a new era of ape dominance, and becomes the new leader of the apes, restoring peace. More on them after the reaction people.
What do you guys have to say about this journey?
It's a Caesarful day, and I'm very excited.
I love that.
He's doing miming.
Get your damn paws off of me.
You dirty.
You damn dirty.
We understood that reference.
Wowza. If you're listening to us on Apple or Spotify, please give us a five-star rating, leave a comment, leave a like.
Don't forget to get your Reject Nation Chop Gear, you guys. I love this movie. I liked it. In the
beginning, I was like, it's a little, it actually wasn't slow, but I was like waiting for the action,
and it all paid off because they took their time and set a foundation, and I really like this movie,
and that they're setting us up for a sequel.
Go.
I really like this movie
because they're setting us up for a sequel.
That's my opinion on the movie.
That's not all of my opinion.
I don't want to like go into an hour discussion
and be like, well, what are you guys' initial thoughts?
But I love this movie.
I thought all of the acting was.
I think Andrew and I are both curious
to hear your hour long session.
I thought the acting was phenomenal.
And I think the heartfelt way that our lead was that no,
Noah comes into his position that he is our new Caesar taking over these people who take
Caesar's crest and call it something else that's very, very greedy that they're just looking
for this stuff in this fault.
And I'm glad that we succeeded.
But the only way that Noah could have succeeded was with the help of another human with
May.
So it's going to be hurtful if Noah and May in the sequel, if they see each other again and May's
side is that the humans are now taking over again. And if it backtracks to where now they're
putting the apes back in cages like what they saw in the book, which is why obviously Noah has
hesitation, except I like that he still was like Raqa said these things. Raka, Raqa. And he gives
the necklace to May. And it's as though to say, remember, meaning me and you lived here together.
And it was fine. I helped you and you helped me, although she did kind of drown them.
But in the end, it was helpful for all of them altogether.
So I really liked it.
In the beginning, I was like, when are we going to get to like full on action?
But I liked specifically seeing them grow up and seeing what the bond was.
Because in the end, when we see Eagle Clan kill that guy, it's so good.
And then you realize why the kids and the whole Eagle Clan is all about getting these eggs, climbing to get them.
They have to get bonded.
They have to grow these eagles because that is their protection.
And we never saw them until the very end, which was a great reveal.
I mean, you did call it in the beginning, but I really love that.
And we're still apes together strong.
Apes don't kill apes.
Did apes kill apes?
No, eagles did.
Boom, baby.
Boom.
That was well put.
Kind of.
I stumbled in the middle of it, trying to get my thoughts out.
But you guys feel me.
I understood.
They get it.
I actually, you know what?
I thought this was ambitious, and I thought it was an interesting way to continue the story
because I think it would have been a little bit repetitive if you would have just kept in
Caesar's clan and gone from there, as much as I would have loved to have followed from there.
You know, world building with a new set of apes here with Noah and with Anaya and Sunamah.
Sunya, sorry.
You know, man, I always mispronounced.
but yeah I thought that was very ambitious and I really like I really you know got emotionally attached with Noah fairly quickly
and I really appreciated the development throughout the film with his character just how he had to undertake this leadership role again fairly quickly just with what happened with the destruction of his village his father you know getting killed right in front of him and then going on this journey and I thought it was interesting too because you know they didn't really have a lot of
lot of, I mean, they had only had limited information. They didn't even know who Caesar was. And then,
you know, they had this, and then there was this dictatorship, basically, you know, where they
twisted the name of Caesar for nefarious reasonings. So I just love this whole idea that you
have this figure of Noah here, like, rising for good in, in Caesar's name. And I thought that
was such a beautiful and smart move. And again, I just loved this character. I thought he was,
you know, he was stoic, he was smart, he was fearless. And I think, you know, he had a lot of
qualities, you know, especially throughout the development that a good leader has very much like
Caesar. But yeah, no, and then some beautiful cinematography as well. I really liked the music
in the film. I think it was the same composer as the Daredevil series, which I thought really
elevated the film because there was a lot of
suspenseful moments in there, some jump scares.
I would say one major negative
was a lot of the night scenes.
I couldn't see shit.
It's hard to see.
Yeah, I mean, there were definitely times where it was a little
bit of a slow burn, but I didn't mind because
you know, again, there was a lot of world building
and they were really taking their time
developing the character of Noah, which I liked.
I'm with Greg that I didn't
think William H. Macy. I understood
what they were attempting to do with
William Mitch Macy's character, you know, a guy who, you know, was just a survivor at any cost and
teaching Proximus, you know, about Caesar and just the history of the world. And, you know,
he twisted that in such an evil way. And I get that. But I just like, Greg, I thought he was
kind of a waste of a character. But I was happy to see William H. Macea because I love him.
But, Greg, what are your thoughts?
Yeah. No, it was a good time, guys.
okay thanks guys for being there
I had a
I had a good time
I'm glad I could join you both
it was
the Planet of the Apes franchise
is a really fascinating one to me
because after the
1968 one
there is a mixed bag of sequels
needless to say
some are really
not very good
and then there's
you know the
the new trilogy
and the last two helmed by Matt Reeves
which are like so top tier planet of the apes films
that it is kind of a daunting task to then go
all right let's do another one after that
because those were so good and so beloved
and just like they're those are so cinematic
you know and going into this
having enough distance from them I was able to really go
with an open mind and not just try to draw comparisons the entire time even though me starting
this off is instantly comparing it because it's hard not to when you when you when you when you
kick it off with the death of caesar the funeral mourning him then to kind of be reminded of those
films and then you start you and so much of it is about dealing with the aftermath and the
trajectory of season and I liked a lot of the ideas that they were dealing with um I feel like
sometimes they're like the social political commentary stuff maybe could have dived a little bit
deeper in or committed more to it at times because there's stuff like that seems a little bit
anti-gun and and anti-fascism in an obvious way and and also like the the idea of how you know you often
hear the teachings of like Jesus Christ for example and then
you know, as centuries go on and different denominations form and wars are fought in the name
of Christ. And then you're like, this isn't really like Jesus taught, you know? And so I like,
I like kind of like that religious aspect that they were, that they were dealing with. I thought
the movie actually had a lot in its mind more than spectacle. And so I appreciated a lot of what
they were going for. Overall, I would say I like the movie a lot. I wouldn't say I necessarily
loved the film.
I do think that it did have some pacing issues because while it was like a little bit
slow at times, I don't mind slow.
I think War for the Planet of the Apes is a pretty slow film, but there is something
that it's so striking about that movie's mood and atmosphere that this movie doesn't
quite have as strong of a grip on, but it's still really good throughout.
Like throughout, I still thought it was really good.
And I was thoroughly engaged from beginning to end.
Like, I like the new characters.
My favorite was the character who got killed off rather early on.
He was, like, my favorite character.
I thought he brought such life to it, you know, whereas everyone in, I keep wanting to call him Eagle Fang.
What are they called?
Eagle Clan.
It's funny.
I was thinking about the film.
Eagle Clan.
While I can distinguish and tell them apart, they're so similar in their, in their,
in their behavior and their mannerisms and the way they the the the speech pattern you know so i think
racka really provided something kind of refreshing and i thought proxamas was uh while a bombastic
bolstering performance still sort of felt um the dialogue given to him was a little bit more and like
i kind of just like a generic villain and so i wasn't so there was those like elements of it where
I felt like they were sometimes aiming really high, but I like, I love the expansion on the
world building.
I love the way the world looks where it's like a beautiful, apocalyptic landscape with the green
ruins overtaking everything.
I like that this one had a great sense of wonder to it.
Yes.
The arc was awesome.
The action scenes were great.
And, you know, in a planet-based franchise where there's like so many films, I, I,
one of like nine or ten films or something.
And this is what I would say is on definitely one of the
stronger ends of the Planet of the Apes films, you know?
Yeah.
So I really, how many are there's a five?
I want to count.
I want to know this number five plus the trilogy plus the remake plus this.
What is that?
Nine? Ten?
Some of there.
Yeah.
I think this is definitely on the stronger end of the Planet of the Apes franchise.
Yeah.
And so, yeah, overall, I like, and I liked the human girl.
What was her name?
Yeah.
She was good.
Reject.
When I heard that this company wanted to partner up with us yet again, I was so enthusiastic about it.
Reason being, I had already been using their product for well over a year by the point we first ever collaborated with them.
So the fact that we get to have this ongoing partnership just makes me a happy camper.
And that is, of course, for the app, Rocket Money.
Now, if you guys don't know what Rocket Money is, don't worry, I got you covered.
I'll tell you about them in just a little bit.
But before that, I wanted to share with you guys why I love this app.
much. It's actually a very personal reason. You see, like many of you guys, I too grew up in a home
where money did not come easily, needless to say. The predominant conversation in my family
household was undoubtedly about financial struggle, financial worry. And that does a number on you.
So it certainly seeped into my adulthood when I was trying to learn how to become financially
independent. And to this day, as someone who talks a lot about working on his mental health,
who's proudly going to therapy, no matter how much.
lack we might have in money one day or how much success we might have in money sometimes.
I still have to have this ongoing conversation about my relationship with money.
I'm half Filipinos. My mom's always talking to me about taxes to this day.
I think, though, it does start with how you manage the finances you currently have.
See, before I ever acquired any type of reasonable living money, I heard someone speak about
how you have to learn what to do with a dollar now.
Essentially, the talk was about don't wait until you have like a bunch of money and then
start figuring out what to do with it afterwards like you got a bunch of toys to play with
if you want to acquire more in life you have to first figure out what you're going to do with what
you currently have and that's why i love this app it's applicable for any financial stage you are at in
life come to think about it it would have been very beneficial for me when i was in a real
struggle boat years ago so in summary as someone who is constantly having an ongoing working
relationship with how to handle money rocket money has helped make that relationship a lot
healthier in my life so what are they if you don't know what they are what they are
a personal finance app that simplifies managing money by canceling unnecessary subscriptions,
lowering your bills, and crafting a budget that fits your specific lifestyle. I'm telling you,
Reject Nation, there's no greater feeling than when you look at the following month and you
see that, oh my God, I have saved money. I've spent less. And progress equals happiness.
The best part is rocket money does a lot of the heavy lifting by analyzing your spending,
then customizes notifications to stay within your budget goals. It's not a lot of the heavy lifting.
not just about saving money. It's about actively seeing and feeling your financial progress.
And one of my favorite qualities about their service, too, is when it comes to monthly
subscriptions. We've been blessed to be able to expand the team and hire more people. But with
that in mind, that also comes with a lot more expenses. So as this business has been growing,
having to track exuber an amount more has been just as important. So now I have to track a lot
of these business expenses. Then I've got to track my own personal finances. So in general,
it's already been helping out a lot with that. But as you want to make things more efficient,
you often find yourself signing up for a lot of apps for free trials that you quickly forget about.
Next thing you know, you're paying a hefty fine for it.
I'm sure, even if you don't have a YouTube channel, there's some way you can relate with that.
You see, because they track your monthly subscriptions, and they make it super easy to cancel the ones you do not use.
A couple of clicks, and you're putting money back into your pocket.
So if you're like me, have you found hidden subscriptions or pay for services that you totally forgot about.
Rocket money was a lifesaver in uncovering those, and even negotiated some of my bills to about, like I'd say,
like down by 20%.
So if you want to join me on this journey
of consistently taking care of your finances,
do not want to start later.
The best time is to start right now.
So please do yourself a favor.
Check out Rocket Money and see how much you too can be saving.
That way you can stop wasting money
on things you don't use.
Believe me, when it came with my accountant and tax season,
that was a really big note.
Visit RocketMoney.com slash rejects.

they'll do the same for you.
That's RocketMoney.com slash reject.
your wallet will thank you.
Because Rocket Money has over 5 million users

and canceled subscriptions,
saving members up to $740 a year

So a great way to support your lifestyle
and a great way to support the channel
is by going and downloading the Rocket Money app yourself.
And if it does help you, please go ahead, draw me a message.
I'd love to hear if there's some way
