Episode Date: November 28, 2025GETTING READY FOR WAKE UP DEAD MAN!! Knives Out Fill Movie Reaction Watch Along: / thereelrejects Gift Someone (Or Yourself) A Stranger Things Reject Nation Tee! https://shorturl.at/hekk2 Kni...ves Out Reaction, Recap, Commentary, Analysis & Spoiler Review! Andrew Gordon (CinePals) & Tara Erickson dive into Rian Johnson’s Knives Out (2019), revisiting Benoit Blanc’s iconic introduction before Knives Out 3: Wake Up Dead Man releases. We break down the Thrombey family, the twists, the donut-hole monologue, and Marta’s (Ana de Armas — Blonde, No Time To Die, The Gray Man) unforgettable journey. This mystery classic stars Daniel Craig (James Bond, Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Logan Lucky) as Benoit Blanc, Chris Evans (Captain America, Snowpiercer, Scott Pilgrim), Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween, Everything Everywhere All At Once), Michael Shannon (Man of Steel, Bullet Train), Toni Collette (Hereditary, The Sixth Sense), Don Johnson (Miami Vice, Watchmen), Katherine Langford (13 Reasons Why, Cursed), Lakeith Stanfield (Atlanta, Get Out, Sorry to Bother You), and Christopher Plummer (Beginners, The Sound of Music). We revisit the best scenes: the will-reading chaos, Ransom’s “eat shit” moment, Blanc piecing together the timeline, Harlan’s death twist, and the legendary final shot with Marta holding the mug. With Knives Out 3: Wake Up Dead Man bringing back Daniel Craig plus new cast members like Josh O’Connor (Challengers), Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla, Civil War), Andrew Scott (Sherlock, Ripley), Glenn Close (Fatal Attraction), and Kerry Washington (Scandal), this is the perfect time to reanalyze the murder-mystery masterpiece. Full reaction, breakdown, theories, explained — let’s solve this case together! We will shout you out individually.
So that's one of the fun perks here.
So let's get right into this from J-Dell.
Thank you, J-Dell, for being a royal regent
and for asking us a question.
We appreciate you.
If you were invited to the thromb...
Sorry if I mispronounced their last name.
Thrombie Mansion for that wild family gathering,
which character do you think you'd
actually accidentally end up siding with the charming manipulator the clueless air or benoit blank himself i
always wonder which side of a mystery i'd fall on realizing i might have just made myself a suspect
actually i think that i would side with the clueless air because she's clueless so like you can
manipulate her or i'd have a one-up on whatever's going on meaning like she's
She'd be slightly clueless, but also maybe dumb enough to cough up some information.
Yeah.
That's how I'd roll.
For sure.
I think I would side with Marta, not only because she's super duper attractive, I think the humanity and the moral center of her character and just what a kind.
He'd sidle up because she's hot.
I mean, that definitely, I think not only she's very hot on the outside, she's extremely even more so hot on the inside.
I really identify and resonate with a human being like that
that just treats you as you should be treated like a human being
and I just I really liked her character so much.
She was the heartbeat of the film
and I really loved her performance so
yes it does it does help that she is very attractive of course
but like that getting me to notice someone based on appearances
will make me just notice you but keeping me around
is what is what's on the inside.
Is her hotness?
Yeah, for sure.
But I think that's why I really cared about her character so damn much.
And I think that's also why Harlan was, he was willing to give her the fortune,
was because she just was a good human being.
She was just a good human being.
And he treated her, she treated him as such.
He didn't, it wasn't, oh, you've got all this money.
I don't care that we're actually, it just goes to show that family is deeper than just blood.
And I think that was just like really executed on such a brilliant way in this film.
And it doesn't matter if you are blood.
It's how we, it's your actions prove that you are family, not not your blood ties.
So that's who I would side with.
Thank you for the question.
Tim Porkroll.
Hello, Terran Andrew.
Knives out as one of my favorite movies of the last decade.
The way Ryan Johnson subverted expectations with a twist about Harlem was masterful, in my opinion.
How do you feel about this structure for a mystery?
crime novel, crime movie, and does it make you excited to watch Glass Onion and wake up
Dead Man when it comes out? I didn't even know there was a third one. I didn't know there was a third
item. Yeah, Glass Onion, now I'm super excited to watch. I did love the structure in this, the way they
were doing the nonlinear storytelling. I have not watched a murder mystery film in a good while,
so I have no basis of just giving like my opinion on like, how did I feel about how it was
structured in comparison to other murder mystery films because it's been so long. I do want to watch
Clue if Greg would allow Tara and I or whoever to react to. I think that would be fun just to see
the comparisons of a film from 1985 to now. But what I will say is I thought that the way Ryan Johnson
was able to subvert expectations. I know that's a word we throw around a lot with Ryan Johnson,
but it was done in a brilliant way because he didn't subvert to subvert. It actually flowed very well
with the narrative here
and also with the flow
of what the characters
were trying to achieve
like we thought
he was actually going to die
and he actually genuinely
cared about this person
Marda and didn't want her
to suffer the consequences
for something she had nothing to do
with this game
that was going on with the family
of not giving a shit
about Harlan and wanting the money
all to themselves and she didn't
and he didn't want her to be a pawn
in that game and to suffer the consequences
and to see that type of
and that type of friendship really goes a long way.
And I like the way the story was structured
and the nonlinear storytelling was so easy to follow.
And the editing in this film was, it's not easy to do.
Like to figure out where do we need to piece these things together
to make sense for the audience?
Because it was really done in a brilliant way, in my opinion.
But what about you?
Yeah, I agree with you, Tim.
I think in this genre, it would probably be like top 10, obviously.
Also one of my favorites.
because of just how well it was written and directed.
I think one of my favorite things was when they popped into a handheld camera when the family was like on top of Marta.
It was just a really, really great move.
And I mean, along with the rest of it, there's like I understand why it's an Oscar nominee.
I didn't even know that.
Cool.
awesome thank you tim and tim by the way terran i love those shirts that you got us for stranger things
those are awesome appreciate you so much all right from kev b what hints did the movie drop along
the way that made benoit blanks final reveal of the murderer feel both unexpected and totally
believable i'll just one i'll quickly go that i should have paid attention to and didn't
is the one that they dropped for us right in front of our face terra is where they said you're back
You're back again.
I'm like, oh, because it was so brilliant because it's like, it's the grandma.
She's old.
It's, I guess it's hard.
That's Harlan's mother, right?
Mm-hmm.
God dang.
Thank goodness she was able to live such a long life at that age.
That's awesome.
But the fact that you got to imagine she's probably got dementia or Alzheimer's, whatever, and she's so oblivious.
So the fact that she's saying, uh, ransom, you're back again.
And like, she's, she's mistaking Marta for.
for ransom and you're like you're thinking nothing of it but the again is where you need to pay
attention to and but you're not thinking about that because you're just hearing ransom it's the
trickling of words right and i thought that was so brilliant the other thing is you know when
tara and i were reacting as well i i thought it was a trick you know where i'm like there's no way
that what happened with the thing and then you thought that no she just accidentally did and
i guess it was a combination of we were both being right but i'm sure you
this is one of those films, Tara, that we could probably rewatch a two, three, four times and
there's so many different things to pick up on. And I love those kinds of movies where you can
pick up on different things, the more you, on repeat viewings. Yeah, I think the way he's subverted
expectations with the meds is because they fell on the ground. She grabbed them quickly. We're
doing a very close, close up B-roll shot on her just going boom, bump after it falls on the
ground. So it kind of puts your head as an audience member of like, oh, it would be very
very easy for her to mix them up because they had fallen on the ground.
But in regards to, you know, him, it obviously flew right by my head when
grandma said, you know, oh, it's you again.
Because she said she might have had one other line before that.
And it's like your head as an audience member also goes to she's old.
She's crazy.
She doesn't know what she's seeing.
Did he leave?
Was he back again?
Like, we're not really very.
registering all that at least i wasn't so it was great for sure thank you kev b we appreciate you so much
lizzie jay uh this movie is one of my favorite thriller mystery movies because of the subversion
of expectations from the kit go and the memorable twist in the end keeps me on the edge of my seat
every time what do you think of the different take on a mystery movie where it is usually the
exploration of a who done it and in this case it is how small will she get away
with it.
It is how will she get away with him?
Right, right.
I think what I appreciated about this movie
in regards to a murder mystery is
I think there were some themes that we were going
like entitlement and about just being a good person
and I like that the film explored these themes
and also too I think there was a fascinating one
with Harlan as well like he was not being treated
properly by his family but at the same point like he
It seemed, we didn't spend a ton of time with him with his character, but it seemed because he was so buried in his work, I'm not imagining he had a great amount, and he had a lot of money to provide for his family, which is great. You know, security is a great thing to be able to provide for your family, no doubt, of course. It's better than not having security for your family, for sure. But at the same point, you've got to provide that level of love and care, and also when they needed a good kick in the pants, which he did provide when they needed it, but also.
So it seemed like he enabled them so much and gave them so much that when they needed the kick in the pants, it's like they didn't know what to do and they were so reliant on him that because he wasn't there for them emotionally.
And as a father in that sense, so I think like grounding the film in that sense and not just the murder mystery really made me so invested in the rest of the film as well.
yeah i agree all right thank you so much lizzie we appreciate you all right from jaden
roads this is a fantastic modern day murder mystery also chris evans is absolutely amazing
agreed i'm curious if y'all agree do y'all have any other favorite murder mystery movies
it's been oh i i haven't seen clue i we mentioned that earlier we would love to react to that
I'm trying to think, just really quickly, guys, I'm sorry.
Let's just quickly type in murder mystery movies because I, I know Tara always says, guys, like, let us know of the.
There was a movie Tara called Once Upon a Crime, I think it was called.
It came out years ago, like in 1992.
Oh, Shutter Island.
That was a good one.
It's a good one.
Usual suspects.
Silence of the Lambs.
Okay.
Oh, Memento.
I saw that so long ago.
I don't even remember how it.
Seven I never saw.
I know the line what's in the box, but I never saw seven.
I would love.
Those are, yeah, those are a good one.
Seven's great.
Yeah.
Oh, now you see me?
Yeah, I guess I could.
Oh, yeah, it is a murder mystery.
I guess so, yeah, for sure.
That's a great mood.
We did those together, right?
Now you see me?
I think so.
Yeah, we did the one and two.
I can't wait for us to do three when that comes out.
All right, well, I would go with those.
But once upon a crime, I think that's like a comedy version of a murder mystery.
That had a lot of celebrities at the time in that one.
I have to rewatch that one, but I would love to hear.
if any of you've seen that one, but do you have any specific ones or just the ones we just named?
Just the ones we just named.
For sure.
Anyways, let us know in the comments section, what are some ones that you love?
And yeah, thank you so much for the question.
We appreciate it.
Fellow reject, Greg from an alternate timeline, is here to let you know that we have launched three new Stranger Things shirts in honor of the final season.
First one up, universal inspired monster of Vecna.
This is from our friend Janine.
I came up with this idea a long time ago.
I love those classic universal monster postures.
I'm just so happy to see this brought to life.
I'm going to get a print out of this.
The second one up that we have here is from the mind of Aaron Alexander, from the artist Sammy, who we worked with plenty of times.
Doctor, Stranger, Things.
Need I say more?
Come on.
How come no one's come up with this yet?
And the third one, I'm wearing it right now.
Reject things.
Thanks, Alex, for coming up with it.
And thanks, Andrew, for snagging my size.
And course, we have our classic ones up there as well.
We have a ton to peruse through.
Anyone you buy is an amazing way to support everyone here who works in front and behind the camera.
You can scan this barcode right here on screen.
If you're interested, go to the link in the description box and pin comment.
If you end up not buying one, that's a okay.
I'm just glad they exist so now I can be wearing them.
Let's get back to the video, people.
The anomaly, C.J. Warren.
Knives Out was a great strong cast, much like the Rejects.
Oh, I appreciate you.
How do you think a Knives Out mystery with the Rejects would play out?
And who do what role's best?
Thanks, you guys rock.
I'll let Tara answer this one because I suck at these games.
She's good at improvising on the spot.
How do you think of Knives Out Mystery?
Okay.
So who do we kill?
We're going to kill Greg because we want the business, right?
That's funny.
We want to raise.
Okay?
So we get rid of him.
We pin it on John because he's the closest one with Greg because we're like,
oh, we're like all these years together and like fighting.
okay and like he's here and he does tech so it's like a good way for him to like cover it up right
and then how do we get how do we put him in there oh oh okay so we wait till john leaves a computer
we log into the real rejects email we write a nasty like nasty emails like continually like i we
would have to all get on the same page and say hey when you see john on the computer make sure he
like has a Google page open
then have the other host
call him in and be like problem with
tack and then we go
and we write a bad email but it has to be
can't just be one got to be multiple
like got to be for months at a time
somehow we write
these seething emails
and then John and
Greg they're getting in fights right
now it's like high tense because Greg's like
why are you being a dick
and then
then somehow we got it
We poison, we poison, Greg.
I don't know how.
We just, we just poison.
We do rat poison, something like that.
So he dies, but he's put on John.
And then we have to do a thing where the will doesn't go to his wife.
And I don't, I'm not quite, sorry, Olivia.
I'm not sure.
We also have to cause a divide with Olivia.
We'll find a way to do that, not via emails too obvious.
Oh, here's what we'll do.
I got, I already got an idea.
we're going to send flowers to their house and it's going to say to uh mary i've had a really lovely time
getting to know you on the side oh my goodness really glad olivia hasn't found out yet i'm getting
ready to leave her signed gregg wow i've got this is already a great script i've already got it
handled. They're going to get divorced. Then somehow we were like, well, the money has to
go somewhere. Tara, can I ask you a question? Did you just improvise that on the spot or have you
been thinking about this? Of course. I've just making sure. That's hilarious. That was impressive.
I'm not going to like that. That was Ryan Johnson levels of impressive. Yeah, I'm good at stuff like that.
That's why I said, I'm going to leave this one to Tara. She's the master for this kind of a question.
You're welcome.
Yeah. All right.
Thank you so much for the question.
Good answer, Tara.
All right.
We are on to TJ, I believe.
Thank you, TJ, for being a real rechecked and for asking us a question.
We appreciate you.
If you were in Marta's situation, would you have gone along with Harlan or told people what happened at the get-go?
What would you have done in her situation?
I would have gone with Harlan.
I would have done exactly what she did.
Yeah, she was, listen, she was a very respectful person.
She really appreciated Harlan.
Harlan was a dear friend of hers and she was just trying to be honorable and respectful towards him.
So I think like Terry just said, I probably would have done that as well.
And it was also, I like that the film gave obstacles in this situation because she throws up whenever she lies.
Yeah.
And that line that he gave, you don't have to lie.
Just tell fragments of the truth.
Such a brilliant line to overstep that obstacle.
Totally.
So, yeah, I'm with terror on this one.
I would have done that because we don't want to incriminate.
ourselves for something we did not do
and then go Slayer mode.
So I'm with terror on that one.
Definitely do what Harlan said.
And it's in honor of respect of him as well
because he wouldn't have wanted that.
Yeah, he was very serious.
Yeah.
Like do what I say and get out.
You got to go now.
That was impressive, by the way, of Harlan to be,
and I know it's like you got two things you can do there.
You can either be calm, cool,
and collected like Harlan was,
or freak the F out with less than 10 minutes
to possibly live.
So I thought that was really impressive on his end.
Yeah.
totally thank you so much for the question uh hope you guys this is from resident z hope you enjoyed
the movie and also hope you guys didn't stumble onto the twist silly question if the thrombies
happened to be your family would you even consider attending a get-together they weren't that
terrible like at the top it was like they were bad because money was like immediately an issue
for us like immediately we were thrown in knowing that like it was going to be a problem but like in
the beginning it was sort of like yeah they're all a little bit bougie and they've they've you know been
they're yeah raised with a silver platter kind of a deal but like they didn't it seems like if you
got to know them you would know how to deal with them and you deal with them like you deal with
anybody in Beverly Hills just like in a certain way right so I
feel like you could go to a get together and have fun and drink and you just don't you just don't
get into questions with the Nazi in the corner or like about money I think fair enough I would also
say too I'm a very direct person and I'm not a pushover so I try to stay away from people I don't
like because if I get near people I don't like I'm going to be honest and be myself so having
that comes with even with family does that even happen with you you don't seem like
You'd be, what do you mean, be honest?
Like, you're not going to.
Well, I'm saying if, like, you were.
Would you say passive-aggressive things or what?
No, I'm going to be even more direct.
If you're a nasty, disgusting person, I'm just, I'm going to stay away from you.
Otherwise, I'm going to be real with you.
I'm not going to put on a facade and be fake with you.
No, I don't think.
Yeah, yeah.
I'm just, I don't know the thrombie is enough to know, like, their entire backstory and all that,
but I knew enough about them throughout this film to know I didn't care about them to spend time with them.
Right.
Yeah.
Having said that if they're still my blood relatives, yeah, I would get together with them,
but I would be very cautious of how much time I'm being with them and like just hearing some of these conversation.
I'm like, yeah.
But yeah.
Yeah.
Anyways.
But overall, I love the movie.
I thought that it was really, really great.
Obviously, I think it's a great like murder mystery thriller written really, really well.
There's really fun metaphors in the writing, especially from Benoit.
Like, it's insanely creative.
Yeah.
And love the way I already talked about.
I love the way that it was shot.
And I think more specifically, whoever Ryan Johnson works with in casting, he does a really, really good job.
Absolutely.
And whoever casted this did a great job.
Like, literally no one seemed.
weaker in part of the cast than any of the others.
They were all up here, like top tier.
For sure.
Even the investigators, because I've seen that happen in feature films where you can get a really great cast.
They all know what to do, what the tone, the pacing, they probably only need two takes.
And then they try to add in like, oh, it's a smaller character, so it's not that big of a deal.
That guy's not a name, the one that was nerd alert.
Yeah, fanboy.
I don't think he's a name.
I'm sure he works a ton.
But I think when he did come in,
it was believable.
And so I liked the way that this was cast.
Absolutely.
Yeah, no stone left unturned when it came to casting,
when it came to production design,
when it came to storytelling,
progression of characters and arcs.
I thought everything,
and the murder mystery, of course,
I thought everything was just executed
so meticulously, so beautifully.
And I like the themes in this film.
There was just so many different layers
that I really appreciated.
And to your point as well,
I really thought Daniel Craig,
because I have not really mentioned him at all
in this entire review.
He was fantastic.
I love the eccentric,
how eccentric he was, his character.
I love the accent.
It didn't.
I know for a fact that he's British.
So, you know,
having that knowledge and then hearing this,
sometimes when you hear actors do that,
it works,
and there's other times,
they're like,
not working on that one.
Him and the dialect,
or him or her on the dialect coach
is not working out.
And it didn't distract me one.
But in fact,
it actually really worked.
And watching, he was also, he was very charming at times too,
and just watching him, like, working out the details and all that.
And then with the reveal of, like, oh, I knew it was at the beginning that you were the one
who snuck in here and, like, I love all those kinds of little reveals coming out.
And then when you rewatch the movie probably, you're like, yeah, that's why he probably
hired her as the investigator to help him, like, because she knew the truth on a lot of things.
And also, he knew that with the throw-up thing, he was just brilliant.
And I love intuitive characters who are so resourceful like that.
And he was just a blast to watch.
Even though you always felt like the stakes were higher
because he's going to clue in and find someone who did it,
it's so much fun to watch with him.
And like that donut analogy on the smaller, like so many great lines from his character.
So great movie, great murder mystery,
who done it film.
I love the themes that we were getting into again with entitlement and all that.
And just about, you know, the family that we raise on just like how we can
view them sometimes on just about money and that's all we view them and then also what money
can do to us and making and greed and all that i thought it was a very fascinating film it is it is so
let us know in the comments is this one of your favorite murder mystery films are you looking
forward to us doing glass onion i would imagine i didn't even know that third one is coming out are
you looking forward to that one as well and yeah take care be safe and uh watch your money
Thank you.
