The Reel Rejects - Lestat Went FULL Rockstar & We Lost It! THE VAMPIRE LESTAT EPISODE 1 REVIEW!!
Episode Date: June 10, 2026SAM REID HAS TRANSFORMED INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE!! Vampire Lestat Full Reaction Watch Along: / thereelrejects Check out the DC Studios: Showcase Podcast HERE https://app.magellan.ai/...listen_links/... The Vampire Lestat Episode 1 Reaction & Review! Greg & Roxy are back for AMC’s Anne Rice Immortal Universe as Interview with the Vampire Season 3 transforms into The Vampire Lestat with Episode 1, “Detroit”! Sam Reid returns as Lestat de Lioncourt, and this premiere goes FULL rockstar vampire madness. We react to the new punk aesthetic, Lestat performing in public, Daniel Molloy filming a documentary, the Louis and Armand auction scene, the fallout from Daniel’s Interview with the Vampire book, and Lestat trying to take control of his own narrative in the most chaotic way possible. This episode gave us Sam Reid as rock god Lestat, Jacob Anderson’s return as Louis, Eric Bogosian as vampire Daniel Molloy, the Detroit concert sequence, the Dracula’s Daughter hotel chaos, the bloody coven fight, and that wild Gabriella de Lioncourt ending with Jennifer Ehle. The Vampire Lestat Episode 1 is a huge tonal shift from Interview with the Vampire, but still keeps the same themes of memory, unreliable narration, love, trauma, and gothic vampire insanity. What did you think of The Vampire Lestat premiere? Are you into the rockstar direction for Lestat, and where do you think this season is taking Louis, Daniel, Armand, Gabriella, and the rest of the Anne Rice Immortal Universe? Guys, we just watched the vampire, the stat.
Thank you so much for everyone who waited patiently with us.
Hopefully we'll get a proper schedule.
We don't know really what the upload schedule will be,
but we're figuring out.
We're figuring it out as we go.
So thank you guys for being here.
And thanks to all the patrons to support us
to season one and season two of this wonderful series.
There you can get the full reaction.
Watch along.
We're syncing it with your own copy.
We're watching the top prime video right now,
where if you have an AMC or,
yeah, AMC plus subscription,
it comes out.
Saturday, like, Saturday, no, Sunday midnight.
So right when Saturday becomes Sunday, it comes out on AMC.
Oh, that's cool.
I didn't even know.
Yeah, I found that out the other day.
And then 6 p.m. at air is PST, California.
Anyway, I'm promoting a streaming service unnecessarily.
Roxy, I'll go to you first.
You were like, this is so different and you seemed horny.
How are you feeling?
Did I?
I really feel.
I think it's accurate.
I feel like I said,
oh my God,
four thousand times,
but it's so interesting.
I actually,
I'm so glad that you,
I don't want to say forced,
but really did force me
not to watch that trailer.
Because this was not,
you know,
I get why it's called
the vampire listat
and not interview the vampire.
Like it's the same show.
It's a different show,
though.
And it was so fun to be,
modern day,
switch over to finally
seeing the stat with Daniel switch formats so we're not sitting down in this long interview in
Dubai like away from everybody but we're in the thick of it we're in the heart of it and we can't
flash forward we can only flash back and to be with the stat and have our timeline kind of confused
because first we're with Daniel but then we go back without saying we're going back to figure out how
we got Daniel and we go back to Halloween and we're like we're messing things around and then we're
watching the stat try to place his timeline as
he doesn't know when or where or what because not only is a vampire,
not only does have a lot of trauma,
but he's also got drugs involved,
and that will make you certainly rearrange things in your head.
All of that, I'm like, I feel guilty because for five minutes of this episode,
I was like, am I going to be into this season?
And then I was like, how dare I question them?
This is like everything that a third season should be,
keeps you on your toes, changes up perspective,
don't know what's real, what's not.
But just, yeah, brilliant job by them in this first episode back, really into it.
How about you?
I thought it was amazing.
Yeah.
That was into it right away.
That was like, boom, this is like a rock and roll documentary.
This is like almost famous with vampire.
You know.
Don't remind me about Almost Famous.
We had a whole thing recently about that.
You and I love Almost Famous.
I feel like that reporter dude who's like brought on tour to monitor.
And they're making a documentary.
and it keeps the themes going of like what is true what is the real like unreliable narrators
perspectives matter i love the i love the humor because the first two seasons is main is obviously
from louis perspective so that adopts an incredibly different tone because they're trying to
paint a very specific narrative to maloy and he's unpacking truths and it seems like we're
doing something similar here with the stat because you know sometimes something happens where it
causes this type of vulnerable exposure so i love how he kind of goes into shock and then forms
his band to try to take control of a situation as he's just like crumbling and he's got a much
darker sense of humor he's more um uh god what's the fucking adjective for it you know he's more
that vampire who likes to get down and dirty and have some fun and he's obviously
obviously an escapist when it comes to his emotions despite being around for so long.
So when he's doing the drugs and everything, it's a hodgepodge of different timelines and trauma,
all sort of converging into one while trying to like maintain control of this narrative simultaneously
and then seeing how he can take advantage and redesign this image that he,
it's like no one even knows that list, who the stat is.
But this book fucks him up so much that he feels the need to like reclassied to like,
claim its name. It's just so silly. But I love it. I think I think the style is really cool.
But I get why the book would mess him up that. Exactly. Yeah. Totally. You're reading about your life.
Totally. Somebody's claiming something that's not true or not how you recall it. And they did it without your
permission and you already have a complicated pass with them. And, you know, I would just, when he,
when he's spiraling, I was like, oh my God, regular breakups are hard. Let alone, oh, God,
I so the way that I related to him in that moment
because as somebody who has an ex
who put out an album about me,
that was so fucking false
and you're like listening to it
and you're just like, how is that your take on what happened?
How?
Just I'm obsessed with,
for anybody who's ever like been confused
about how a situation went down
and then they're like, wait,
and then you start questioning yourself.
Just this was so, I can't believe
I'm calling the show relatable,
but like and then the spiral of being like what happened first and again anybody who's like gotten mixed up in messiness allegedly whatever in their past like it kind of gets confusing sometimes i just so spot on i could see how you could relate with it for real i was like oh my god i love this man yeah well i love his i love his sardonic i love his cynicism of today because the show the show also because of the time period and it's less
Statt, who's been such vampires observant.
And, you know, you usually get kind of that humorous observation from Malloy, but he
doesn't really, like, get into the trenches and participate.
He's not an active participant, whereas Lestat is an active participant amongst society
in the way he does, in whatever way he does it.
But I love all the modern day commentary that he has about people and algorithms and the
way, just the way everyone seems to function.
And it's like, yeah, he recognized the falsities of it all.
and he knows how to take advantage of it.
Like he literally finds a way to climb to like super massive stardom
because he understands the way the world works so well.
But not the same level as jelly roll.
I want millions of followers, you know?
Like I love that.
I love that moment too.
And it's interesting because I think even like another relatable factor of this is Greg,
like for my and your generation who came up without social media.
And then there was obviously the huge wave of social.
media. Imagine him, he's been around for 200 and whatever years, like to watch the way society
is now and then to have to placate and adapt. Yeah. Especially if like now everybody who wants
fame, okay, and he's always won in fame, but just in a different kind of way, like to go from being
on stage in Paris, that kind of fame, to this and like trying to figure that out. Oh my God,
it must be such a mind trip. I'm so excited for the season. I do hope one thing, though,
What?
Lestat and Louis in the same room.
We had so much last season, no Lestat and Louis.
Are we going to go all season, Sands Lestat and Louis?
I think we definitely will.
I think this world is so interesting because in season two,
it was so much about Louis grieving Lestat,
and you feel that loss of Louis.
Whereas, like, here we know that they even start off with, like,
the auction and Louis.
is still in connection with LaStat.
Totally.
Thank goodness for that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
There's still, I mean, before the book comes out,
but it seems like that probably causes a riff between them in some way.
And so it's like we're not,
it's not really,
I didn't really feel myself missing Louis in this episode.
I was,
like I agree that I think we will get there.
Yeah,
I was totally fine with the amount in this episode.
I'm just curious because we didn't see the trailer.
Yeah.
Do you think Louie is going to be more involved in this season than LaStat was last season?
Yeah.
Yeah, definitely.
I think he was second build here.
And the episode still started off with him.
So I imagine he would be around.
I think the book thing is going to lead to, like,
legal problems and defamation problems and stuff.
I think it's going to lead to some, like, real shit and real confrontations.
And I think we're still going to get, like, a bunch of crazy flashbacks.
I feel like all this hodgepodge of memories is not just shot for this episode.
I think these are sequences that are pulled from events that we will actually explore in later episodes.
Shout out to that editor.
That's a lot of footage.
Yeah. Oh, my God.
Yeah, that's an impressive.
Yeah.
That's an impressive editing task.
And the violence was cool, too.
How'd you feel about the, I don't want to brush past the violence.
So actually, I'll save my question.
No, it's okay.
Would you want to ask?
Rejignation, we're back with another shout out for DC Studio Showcase, the official podcast.
Of course, co-starring fellow reject Koizondro.
I actually just finished watching their episode with Millie Alcock, where they're, of course, talking about Supergirl.
And to me, it is a perfect.
example of what makes Frankie and Koi such a great pair. Because that's a lot of you guys know,
Koi brings that sharp comic and film knowledge, you know, deep trivia, heady analysis,
energetic vibe, masculinity. While Frankie, she brings this like empathy and sincerity and emotional
connection. And it's this balance of intellect and empathy that I really feel like makes their
interviews special. Often two different yet similar perspectives that truly respect each other. And so to have
this DC Studios podcast that covers everything for like DC for the comics,
films and TV shows. To have these two at the helm, I think it's just such a great pick. And like last season, they had huge guests like the cast of Superman, James Gunn and Jim Lee. And now, of course, with Millie Alcock already out, season two is going to be stacked. They got more coming from Supergirl. They got Clayface Lanterns. So you can expect interviews from like Supergirl director Craig Gillespie. And of course, you know, Lobos, Jason Mamoa. Where they're going to be sharing onset stories, personal insights and how they bring these characters to life. Plus, surprise guests pop it in all season long.
So you can check out the DC Studio Showcase on the official HBO Max YouTube channel using this QR code here on screen or the link in the description box and pin comment.
And you can listen on HBO Max or wherever you get your podcasts.
New episodes drop every other Friday.
So subscribe so you do not miss one.
That's DC Studio Showcase wherever you get your podcasts.
How did you feel about the reveal of who he was texting at the end?
When he's like not much of a reveal.
I don't remember.
Am I supposed to know who that is?
No, I don't think so.
like you we saw in the flashbacks i mean we saw like little bits but i they said something something
mother you and i both are like oh then we're like that's probably not what that means but yeah i i'm not
aware as of this moment of the significance of that person yeah i have no idea who that is but um
i mean it's this is his tale to tell you know like so we're going to find out some louis introduced us
to new characters so now let's that will introduce us to new characters and
He's been such a mystery.
And I like that this show, actually, this episode managed to maintain his mystery without spoiling it.
You know, it's kind of like watching early days of Tony Stark in some way.
Like, you're just watching a dude who's like crumbling and a total narcissist.
But you know, he's like, there's some softy underneath there, you know.
He's like, I'm not doing well.
It's like, yeah, very clearly.
Other prediction question for you, not to be a dead horse.
And I know, I know, I know.
do you think we're going to get any
Claudia this season?
No.
You don't even think there's going to be flashbacks
to like.
Oh, a flashback?
Yeah, I think we'd probably get a flashback
at least.
I'd be happy if she came back.
But I don't think she's going to come back.
I'd be happy if she came back and she'll be probably
back in a flashback.
I think we're going to re-contextualize some moments.
Yeah, that's what I'm curious about.
Like, how much are we going back
in like, it seemed like a lot
of the images we saw
primarily were from
the 2020s.
But there were some things that it was like, is that,
Magnus?
Is that like, you know, how far back are we actually going to go?
There were flashbacks that seemed to be directly alluding that we're going to actually see Magnus.
Yeah, I think so too.
I think there was one that he was, his origin about being taken.
I'm like, I'm pretty sure we saw a visual of exactly that scene when he was taken.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So, yeah, I thought it was great.
And it's also like fucking hilarious.
It's so funny.
It's so funny.
Especially after Louis season, which is like,
He is so, like, dark and brooding.
It was just like,
the greatest ever, but it was like,
oh my God, this is so, and this was just like,
fun, drug, sex, rock and roll.
But that's,
POV would be that way.
Yes, of course.
That's why it's amazing.
Yeah, it wouldn't be as like super,
I'm sure we'll get somber and serious moments,
but I feel like for an introduction,
for like what feels like a pilot for a new series,
I thought it excelled so well.
Would you think about the new intro?
What do you think about the,
actual songs.
Yeah, I mean, I think
I think the intro is great.
It's good.
The Inquoddy's the
spirit.
I think the episode actually
mirrors what the intro's vibe is.
Sometimes you get a really cool intro
and then the episodes of television
don't actually mirror the intro.
Agreed. And I think like the hypnotic
vibrancy of it does
and manicness and
editing flourishes do
carry through.
And,
And the songs are cool when I'm listening, like when I'm really getting the lyrics, you know, that's when I really, like, I don't know if they're like the exact songs I would just personally listen to.
But in terms of lyrics that complement storytelling, I enjoy, are these songs you'd actually just listen to?
Kind of.
Yeah.
It's not in the same way that when we finished Hasbin, I was like, get in the car and download these songs.
Yeah.
But I'm, I'm a rock girl.
I mean, like, on this channel, well, you do too.
You like rock, too, but I feel like that's my soul.
So you've been hearing the two vampires, the local vampires.
That song sucks.
I'm like, no, it doesn't.
It's telling his truth.
But, of course, some of the lyrics are a little spot on the spot on with like literally blood sucking, coming, whatever.
But I kind of dug them.
I want to get in the car, download them.
I did see that he was, Sam Reed was performing this week, and you could go see him.
Oh, yeah.
I mean, that sounded definitely like it was his voice.
Yeah, for sure.
And people were saying the show was amazing.
So, curious, like, how, did he help write any of these songs?
You know, I've thought, this is the problem with the show.
Now that we're in real time with the audience, Greg, I like want to look that up.
But I don't want to see any other.
I love how protected and insulated.
that you and I have been from the outside world.
Yeah.
Not that anybody could spoil, but just, like,
it's nice to experience this very organically and raw,
but I am curious about certain things.
I did want to look up who that one actor was in the band,
who I certainly recognized from somewhere.
Let me look.
Curls?
Yeah, the guy with the curls.
Oh, what do I even type into IMDV?
Vampireless stat, right?
The vampire-less stat.
Let's see if I can find it.
Oh, my God, when you type in the vampire with the vampire list, a video from 2011 comes up on IMDB.
That's it.
You try?
No, it's just interview with the vampire.
Oh.
That's so weird.
So IMDB has not updated it.
Well, I think it's because they said, like, the show formally known as or whatever.
That's just not.
Okay. Joseph Potter.
How do I know you?
Joseph Potter.
No, I definitely know them.
What is it from?
No, I don't know any of these.
Do I know you personally?
I'm telling you, that dude looks so familiar.
Huh.
Wait, Joseph Potter is the guy.
Oh, no, that's not a...
Oh, no, no, sorry, it's Noah Reed.
I was like, well...
Oh, Noah Reed.
See, the last name.
Okay.
Oh, from Schitt's Creek!
That's fucking Patrick!
No, I think you were thinking of this guy,
Seamus Patterson.
Noah Reed.
Oh.
That's him from Schitt's Creek.
Craig is Patrick.
No idea who that is.
No, not him.
Go back.
I know, but this is the curly guy.
No, he had short curly hair.
No, we'll read from Schitt's Creek.
I am so embarrassed right now.
I am so humiliated.
Those of you guys who are screaming at me, you are so right.
You don't understand how much I love this guy on Schitt's Creek.
He is, Dan.
Are you going to watch show?
No, one day, probably.
but I won't remember what you say right now.
Okay.
He is the major love interest.
He has the best wedding on television that you've ever seen.
Okay.
He's simply the best.
See if you guys catch that reference.
The fact that I couldn't clock who that was is fucking shameful.
Put me in TV jail.
And he's going to have a huge role on the show.
This guy is a stud.
All right.
I'm there with you.
I'm so upset with myself right now.
Dude, that was all great information.
That is embarrassing.
You should be.
Anyway, guys, what do you think of the vampire, the stat?
We'll be more on top of the other episodes.
I'm embarrassed.
We might get lucky.
So thanks, Roxy, for being Roxy, and for recognizing this guy from Schitt's Creek.
Not Seamus Patterson.
No, what was his name?
Noah Reed.
Noah Reed.
That was humiliating, Greg.
That was as embarrassed as Armand.
should be showing up.
Okay.
Bad.
That was bad.
Queen of the Damned.
She was Queen of the Damned?
Who was?
Oh.
As in the character that
A Leo played?
I don't know.
There's a movie called
Queen of the Dam that I've never seen.
But I think that one
is also the Anne Rice.
That's the Anne Rice world.
Oh, really?
Yeah. I think
Lestad is in that movie.
I think this guy
the stat on the Stuart Townsend. Wow. I didn't know that. I know like obscure yeah I knew like obscure facts but I've
never seen this movie. Huh. Wow this should we watch it? I don't know this trailer does not look very good
just these flashes.
It looks corny as hell but all the kind of right corny I enjoy. But love alia.
Dan, this looks like wonderfully corny. It looks like an action.
Greg and Roxy watch Queen of the Damned leave it in the comments like
please forgive me about chit's creed it's rated r for vampire violence all right guys 2002 baby
we don't have questions to us no we don't not today not today but thanks guys for being here
we'll see you guys soon peace
