Starting point is 00:01:07 Tara anything else you want to add before we get started I want to get into it let's do it Logan commence oh my god Oh, my God. Amazing. Wow. Wow. Oh, boy.
Starting point is 00:01:35 Yeah, so we'll wait for that post-credit scene. If there is one. If there is one. But we just watched Logan. So if you're listening on Apple or Spotify, make sure you use those adamantium claws. Give us five-star ratings. Also, rejectnationshop.com.
Starting point is 00:01:51 If you want cool teas like these. The she-jacks got some special ones, as you can see. right here. We've got all the horror villains in it, me and Roxy. It's a great one for spooky season. And the sweater's super comfy too. So go snag one. So should we start talking about it?
Starting point is 00:02:10 Yeah, yeah. Why don't you, as always, want to hear your thoughts? I give this movie 72 million stars. I absolutely adore it. The line at the end is what really hit me. me when he says so this is what it feels like um and that is really the undertone of like we hear it at the end but that's basically what professor was fighting for him to have to have this like take a moment and feel your family i mean the professor was sticking around and really sacrificing other
Starting point is 00:02:51 people so that Laura would survive because he knew that I think that Wolverine that Logan needed her and that she needed Logan and the professor knew that and I just feel like every step of the way in this film from the choreography to the writing to like how intense and smart each character is, especially her, and how all of the characters, like, have his back in a way, especially with him sacrificing himself in the beginning with the grenade. I just feel like it's so brilliantly written that, like, they're such, they're all in their own right badasses. Like, nobody in this is weak or has, like, a side that we didn't really get to see their full strength, which is why I love it so much. And the heart in this movie is amazing. I mean,
Starting point is 00:03:53 the way that Logan is talking to when he calls the professor pops is like it hits home when he dies. You know, that that is his father, his dad all in all. I mean, it's like that's who raised him. And now it's so sad when he dies at the end, y'all. It's just like she needs her dad and I'm just glad she survived and she goes off with the kids and I know that they can protect each other but this movie is great. It's fantastic. I echo a lot of your sentiments and first of all I just want to point out as you all know James Mangold did direct this film. He did The Wolverine which we both enjoyed very much. I didn't like the ending to that film. You liked it more than I did. I said the first two thirds of this is one of the best comic book
Starting point is 00:04:43 films I've ever seen, but you can tell, in my opinion, at least, the studio had some interference with the director and kind of took over from that point. You can tell in this film, they let him do his thing and did not interfere, which I thank them for not doing and letting him do his thing, because this has his stamp all over it. And he did, I mean, first of all, credit where credit is due, all the actors did a fantastic job, because at the end of the day, if you write a brilliant script, you still need the right people to do the, you know, to make these performances come to life so um all the actors which i'll get into in a second they all did fantastic but james mangold deserves so much credit for the screenwriting the story the direction he
Starting point is 00:05:24 really just nailed every aspect of this film uh which makes it so special in so many different ways um but yeah just echoing everything you just said uh you know what logan had to go through just we've seen we've gone through this journey with him just before this all the trauma all the tragedy all the good stuff too and you know he's lost so much and again we feel that at the beginning of this he's still got professor Xavier which he's kind of a shell of himself and he him himself is a shell of himself as well he's got caliban but he's not living life anymore because of again just how much he's lost for a second time now right so you know it's one thing to do that go through that one time which is unimaginable but to go through a second time
Starting point is 00:06:12 it's you know that would break most uh obviously you know logan's not like most he he breaks but he can heal although in this case he's not healing like he normally is because of the poison that's in him um but i thought this was such an interesting aspect seeing him where he is actually dying but again even when he is dying professor xavier like you pointed out just finds it within him like hey even though you don't have much time left on this earth, I still want you to feel that aspect left of life that you have to live, to remember what we did have, family. And that's the most important thing in life
Starting point is 00:06:48 is family and love and warmth. And that's who you are. And I think there was a good arc for Logan in this movie. Because at the beginning, yes, he did have that caring aspect. He still cared about Professor Xavier and Calaband. He was still nurturing and caring in that aspect. but like if something didn't suit him personally he'd walk away from it he wasn't that same logan we remember where he's going to get in there get his claws dirty and protect whoever if it didn't
Starting point is 00:07:13 if it if it's not you know um tangible to his uh uh needs but in this case when it like he could have walked when he saw those drones heading towards laura and the other he could have got he could I mean he was still going to die either way but still he could have gone gone away in peace he didn't because of the arc and journey that we've gone through in this film. Yeah. He cared about Laura. That's his daughter and these kids, what they were made into. And it was like not their fault.
Starting point is 00:07:41 They were just made and born. They just wanted to live in peace and free. And because of, again, the journey we've gone through in the arc that he, and the lesson he learned in this film, he's like, no, I'm going to protect these kids. Yeah. They can't fend. I mean, they can't fend for themselves, but they're a little bit outnumber. He needed a little bit of protection.
Starting point is 00:07:56 Yeah, yeah. But it was just, it was so beautifully written. And obviously, in terms of the. like you really feel the stakes in this film like in days of future past with the sentinels you feel the stakes in this film with x24 with the reavers um with uh obviously then they take caliban so now it's like oh my god we're in a world of trouble now uh with the threat level here um and i thought that was so scary how they used x24 especially with with logan not being in his prime and he's dying now so it's like it really you really feel the threat level that anyone
Starting point is 00:08:25 can go at any which time and they're taking out kids with that family and the father and and and the the wife so uh all and all just just a really beautifully made film a sad film um a film that i love the theme of family as obviously most x-men films are but this film really like hits home in regards to that um this one really hits you yeah and uh and also again we kind of i mentioned it uh and you also mentioned as well i thought the score beautiful by marco beltrombie uh phenomena uh maybe you might not agree with me but i think you jackman maybe i'm going a little overboard in this i think he should have been nominated for best actor like i think he gave back a good of a performance phenomenal job i mean it's it's amazing to see him him work especially in this
Starting point is 00:09:13 film there's a lot more emotion that he had to come with um and i also for the girl i don't know her name she did a phenomenal job definitely keen definitely keen okay um she's great and especially the scene at the end where she had to get emotional. She didn't have tons of lines, but I think that the casting was perfect. She was terrific. And her chemistry with Hugh Jackman, too, and you know what I think to your point, too?
Starting point is 00:09:45 It's great. Before I get into the trivia, too, she had a tough, not only a tough job because of all the high talent that she's with, which can be a little intimidating for someone new in the business, too. It's not easy to do, even if you're experienced, that's still tough to do.
Starting point is 00:09:58 Right. She couldn't, she wasn't talking most of the films. So she had to do a lot of acting with her face. A lot of emoting and a lot of, you know, storytelling with her, like I said, with her face. Very tough job, but you knew what she was thinking. As, like, Tara was able to, you know, so brilliantly express with, you know, her awesome commentary as always, Tara was able to go, I know what she's thinking because of the wonderful performance. Right, because of her performance.
Starting point is 00:10:25 Yeah. And also the fact that Tara is very intuitive. as well. It's a combination of the two. It's a good combo, but she really delivered for us. Yeah. And I just, I adore this movie. Yeah, no. I want a Logan T-shirt.
Starting point is 00:10:39 Oh. So you're no longer a Deadpool girl. I'm just kidding. You're both. I am. I'm all of it, man. You're all of it. You're all of it. This movie's phenomenal. And again, you know, as much as we praise Hugh Jackman for this different performance as
Starting point is 00:10:53 a broken down Logan. Also Patrick Stewart as a broken down professor Xavier again this is fantastic because this is a different like we did see the james mackavoid being broken down in x-men days of future pass but i thought it was brilliant to see patrick stewer because he's so uplifting he's so motivational and he's the he's the comfort that you go to when you break down but to see him breaking down after finding out what he had done and again it wasn't his fault we find out later from you know no uh dr rice or whatever like he had caused everything like with the poison and all that so he couldn't control himself with the
Starting point is 00:11:27 see here. So it was really that guy's fault. But still, like, I love that in the end with Professor Xavier. Like, he still learned to accept that, like, I'm still going to be me and still like, you know, accept who I am. And I love that. Yeah, I do too. They did a really good job of showing us, like, I don't want to be in this X-Men world without Professor Xavier as he is and without Wolverine. And now we have, you know, his daughter. I mean, it's just Bravo. Yeah, agreed. Should we read a few tributes? Okay, we'll just do a few today. Hugh Jackman said this was the hardest Wolverine movie for which he had ever trained.
Starting point is 00:12:05 I bet. I mean, he has to play X-24 as well. Yeah. Oh, true, true. He was an incredible shape for that as well. Hugh Jackman induced dehydration for 48 hours prior to filming scenes of Wolverine shirtless, losing water weight. He added that the method is dangerous and no one should ever attempted at home. Jackman used the same technique five years earlier to create his,
Starting point is 00:12:27 His look for prisoner Jean Valjean and Les Miserables. I never saw that film. So he knows about that dehydration diet. Okay. Yeah. Okay, I'm not going to read this one. It's in regards to Deadpool and Wolverine. I'm just going to skip that one.
Starting point is 00:12:41 Yeah, I don't think of it. James Mangold stated that this movie is set in 2029 to avoid any conflict with the timeline established in X-Men days of future past. But that his goal was to make a standalone movie that was not bound to continuing previous storylines or setting up sequels. I love that. Yeah. Yeah. All right. We'll do like two more.
Starting point is 00:13:01 Excuse me. Sir Patrick Stewart claimed that much of the dialogue at the dinner table scene in which Logan and Charles Xavier told the family about the school for mutants was improvised by the actors at the request of director James Mangold after having filmed takes of scripted dialogue. And I love that. It was again, it was just very natural, even though it was improvised. That's so great. That was really natural. And that's one of my favorite scenes because you finally get to see Logan smiling for the first time. After everything he's been through in this film and the other films.
Starting point is 00:13:30 And he's like got kicked out a few times. I love that. All right. Last one, you're going to like this one, I think. Throughout all his portrayals of Logan, Hugh Jackman stated he learned his American accent from copying Johnny Depp. Ah. I never knew that one. Wow.
Starting point is 00:13:46 That's crazy from Johnny Depp, huh? Okay. Interesting. Well, let us know your thoughts in the comment section. Is this your favorite X-Men film? It's mine. But is it your favor? I'm just curious.
Starting point is 00:14:00 I know it's a recency bias because we just watched it or maybe you need a little more time to... Because Deadpool's in its own thing. Yeah, I mean, it's still part of the X-Men universe, but you can... But it's different.
Starting point is 00:14:09 How about through this whole watch? Would you say this is your favorite? Yeah, Logan and Deadpool are like those are my favorites. I mean, hands down, this movie, I was 10 minutes in and you heard me scream, I fucking love this movie.
Starting point is 00:14:23 It's like the best movie ever. I had goosebumps multiple times. that doesn't always happen. There is always a thing that I complain about if I don't like the movie. It's because it doesn't have enough heart. This movie had that, as well as action and adventure
Starting point is 00:14:37 and a very well-written script. And the fact, like, it's so smartly written and the fact that she turns that cross the end into a next, forget about it. Beautiful. This is one of the best written scripts and the best directed films that I've seen in a minute.
Starting point is 00:14:53 It's amazing. Yeah, I'm so glad I got to re-watch it on our and share that reaction with you and with you guys on our journey back to or on our journey to Deadpool and Wolverine rather and we're going to continue that journey next with Deadpool 2 so if you don't want to miss that excited don't forget to ring the bell ring the bell that way you don't miss our reaction to Deadpool 2 and if you've made it this far taran I so appreciate you guys sticking with us this long and we will see you on Deadpool 2 later right
