Starting point is 00:01:12 Boys, you ready to meet these chicks? Oh, let's do it. Let's do it. Oh, guys. I am so over time. One of the best naps, Greg, Zippertz. It's been awesome.
Starting point is 00:01:30 I'm not, I'm not even like trying to, I'm not like, oh, let's go rail into this because everyone else is railing into this movie. I, I've only seen thumbnails. I haven't heard anything. And so I thought, I was under the impression that, like, it might be like some trashy film that would still be like fun to watch. Right. And I thought this movie just committed the most, the Cardinalson, I would call it, which is the thing
Starting point is 00:01:59 I hate most in a movie. It's just like, wow, I'm just like bored. Yep, that's the card. I'm having such a hard, I'm not like even annoyed. I'm just bored. And I had a, at a hard time. Like, sometimes it would be like something like, okay, cool shot. But most of the time I don't care about anything that is happening in this.
Starting point is 00:02:25 And Sony managed to pull off their... They went just a grade above what they did with Morbius with that whole, like, Spider-Man on the wall thing. They're like, well, I mean, this time we'll actually put it in the movie. So can they really complain? Is it false advertising now? Yeah, yeah? It's not false advertising if we have them in suits and the premonitions. And the foreshadowing of the future of what's to come.
Starting point is 00:02:57 Oh, man. Wow, Greg. I haven't seen Morbius. He spoiled it for me. You haven't seen Morbius? Nope. Oh, that's way better than this. I do think this is the worst one because of how bland it was. I mean, I liked Dakota Johnson had moments that I thought were worthwhile. I honestly forgot every character's name.
Starting point is 00:03:22 Who's the... Jules? Is that to be Julia? Julia? I don't know. Okay, whoever's not. Sidney Sweeney and not Latina. Oh, yeah. I just know her.
Starting point is 00:03:33 Black girl. Lucky from Ghostbusters. Celesto Connor? She was, I thought she was the best of the three. And Sidney Sweeney, I felt, was trying to be a character. And. Yeah, she, I like Sydney Sweeney, though. I think Sydney Sweeney is a badass.
Starting point is 00:03:53 I really do. I mean, she produced anyone, but you, this new movie, immaculate apparently like it's not great but she's great and she put up her on money for that as well so I think she's like a hard work and talent and this movie does not do anything for her
Starting point is 00:04:09 this is my first introduction yeah this is my first introduction she's excellent in euphoria is a lot of people's introduction her she's excellent so by any stretches this make me go wow is this her caliber of time because I'm I've seen her other things to know like now she's a really and as a
Starting point is 00:04:26 person I think she's like really badass for that but nah it's awful here Ben it's not Ben Stiller was it Adam Scott Ben Wyatt I like everyone here
Starting point is 00:04:36 seems to collectively like I mean Adam Scott's hard not to like and almost every he could be an asshole or a super nice guy and he's still like enjoyable to watch
Starting point is 00:04:46 it was charming he's very appealing yeah but overall I was just like the summary of my thoughts are I didn't care about like
Starting point is 00:04:57 anything And it was just repeating this same information over and over again. And there's no life to this movie with, which has a really, and I was so fascinated by how of it, so much of a premise, they could have easily made something out of this. Like, I don't even care that it doesn't feel like Madam Webb that we tradition that. I don't give a shit about that. if you have this plot that they are telling you of woman who clearly has hard time with emotions and child gives her drawing and I can't connect to that because of her issues with her mom and have this fear of loneliness and then and then uh and then like uh this abandonment issues
Starting point is 00:05:46 and then she has these kids who she doesn't really want to look after her and then she can become like a mom of them and you spend the movie with them bonding and you fear for their lives you can make like a it's the same i just told you what the movie's plot is right yeah you can be describing it yeah yeah and it's like oh you just make it about their connection and their chemistry and then becoming a family and her building trust learning to uh tend to them and overcoming her her own issues with her mom via through this experience with them and uh i don't know it just got so bogged down and repeating the same bullshit throughout the entire film and uh i i i do think it was like some surely marketing bullshit what they did with the suits that was that was at first i was like way to
Starting point is 00:06:32 just like show us the suits at front like not even like make a moment out of it and then i think all three of us at a certain point we're like wait a minute it's not gonna have they're not even going to wear this in the movie are they yeah comment they showed us if you if you got to this point in this video comment where it became clear to you that this turn into being superheroes was not going to be covered in this movie when we knew that we were not going to see them actually done the suits when did you know i think for me it was when she was doing the CPR i'm like she's not going to train them if this is the extent of their training is CPR
Starting point is 00:07:05 i didn't even realize i don't know why she would train them does she train them in the comics i don't know anything i don't know what happens in the comics i'm not coy i don't know she's supposed to i mean it seems like the kind of thing where each of them would get their own power origin's story and at least have to kind of learn their way a little before getting inducted into the Madam Web Society, but I'm just speculating. Well, and then there were some weird sequences, like, at the end when he was trying to kill them, and then, like, he threw Celeste O'Connor and she was able to do some crazy maneuvering
Starting point is 00:07:36 shit. I was like, wait, how did she know how to do that? It's foreshadowing. It's in her reflexes. No, I understood that, but I guess, like, if you get a near, close to near death's experience, now you can do it, but I fully agree with Greg. Like, I mean, there were some interesting ideas, I guess, here. But, yeah, the film had, the biggest Cardinal Sin was, it was like, I can deal with underdeveloping characters.
Starting point is 00:07:58 I can deal with, I mean, I prefer action sequences to be exhilarating and bombastic. But if it's just as boring as it was, like, I constantly in my head was like, can something happen instead of just hearing the same? Like, the villain, like, at least 30 different times, says, I've got to kill these girls. they're going to kill me. I'm like, oh, I know that. You said it 30 times already. You've got to kill these girls. They're going to kill you.
Starting point is 00:08:25 If you don't find them, I'm going to kill you. Yes. And I mean, I get it. And to your point, too, like, you know, for Sidney and some of these other actors, like, this script and the direction just really did not do the many favors. I'm sure, I mean, I've seen Celeste O'Connor and Dakota Johnson and Adam Scott. They're all very capable actors.
Starting point is 00:08:44 So I feel bad that we're in this. But, you know, I'm not going to, I'm really not going to judge, even the, the villain. I don't think you should judge anything. I'm not going to judge anyone. The acting is the least of the worries of this movie. Yeah, no, no, no. I'm not, like, most everybody. Anyone in this film. Aside from the guy who played the villain, who truly, like, the construction of the movie does not help him shine whatsoever.
Starting point is 00:09:09 And I've heard people say this guy is a perfectly capable actor as evidenced by other stuff. But everybody else, yeah, shows up and, like, commits to character. and yeah like I all aside from him I almost had no problem with any of the actors especially because you know Dakota Johnson's pretty good at delivering like she's got that thing where and you pointed out the movie has no sort of self-awareness whatsoever which I think would have been really beneficial because she is the kind of actor who can let you know like I realize I'm saying some bullshit right now but I'm also giving it my all and yeah the movie doesn't take advantage of that either and it's See, to me, if I really, like, I don't want to misattribute the, the efforts here. I don't know who, you know, is responsible for the direction of every single moment, but it certainly felt like there was a contrast sharply between who was directing the talk scenes and who is directing anything action-related. I know you have a second unit for that.
Starting point is 00:10:05 And I guess the one thing I'll say is, like, it's, I thought the action sequence, well, there's some action sequences that are pretty stylish and had some neat camera shit going on and there are flashes like there are a lot of stylistic elements that I liked however the trouble becomes that in this kind of setting you know without a good story and your characters good action is like is going to be kind of boring even if it's good because there's nothing really to latch on to like the stakes with so like yeah it's just kind of like there are moments in this movie that are competent and equate to like a nice technical exercise you know or like here's a good passage I might show to somebody from a better movie
Starting point is 00:10:45 or something but yeah it's just like the amalgamation of it all is somehow yeah you can't have so bad it's good fun with it because like certain things are competent enough but then it's so underbaked and we've seen enough of these Sony movies now to know that they're capable of making like kind of fun odd choices and for a minute I thought maybe they will as part of this universe because it just seemed like part of the spirit would be to lean into that and yeah I feel like this one in a way tries to play itself so seriously while at times being goofy and it, yeah, it just kind of creates this weird soup of a tone. I'm sorry, I was just going to say for a strength, you guys said it earlier. I actually thought there were a couple times during the premonitions, at least at the beginning. I mean, it got a little bit repetitive, but there were a couple times where I was like I was a little unsure if we were in the present or, you know, from that perspective. I did like a couple of those in the premonition. So I'll give it a puck.
Starting point is 00:11:39 They can be very jarring at times when they cut in. Yeah, but I mean, there was a lot of times, too, with the quick cuts. and some, and the cinematography. Usually I am a major praiser of cinematography, and I hated the cinematography in this film. Oh, I disagree with that. Okay, I think there's a fine cinematography. I didn't like it in this film.
Starting point is 00:11:56 I think there was, I mean, there are some silly, silly zooms early on, you know, that I'm glad they chilled a little bit out on. But, but, you know, I thought a lot of the camera department was. We're going to fight after this. You mean. It's going to be a more entertaining fight than anything that was in this film. Sorry, what were you going to say? when John was freaking out during the premonition stuff I could not I I would have to really disagree with that I was like this is all stuff I've seen in other premonition every almost everything here just felt like it was ape from something else that had done it already and it was better and including the premonition stuff I don't disagree with that either and then like my favorite premonition moment was probably the train moment because that was the only time I was like I'm not sure when we're in the premonition.
Starting point is 00:12:43 mission now, you know, like, are we still in it or not? And that was, that was a scene that I personally enjoyed because of that. And I would say the same thing for the action scenes as well. I was like, yeah, I, I've seen this action scene, like these shots are cool in isolation, but you could just see that they were aping something else the entire time. So a lot of it was often working in doses was, was not anything that was, it was just derivative of something else. so yeah i i i don't feel like this movie's had a spirit to it that's a difference to watching this i'd like okay first i like this movie just shot up the marvels for me and like oh much bigger i'd rather watch the marvels or this any day um and like that was theirs for me
Starting point is 00:13:32 for like aquaman the lost kingdom another movie that was like met with abysmal reviews when it first came out i'd rather watch that and to me i'm like this actually is fun and as bad as a movie it is. I'm still having fun with this movie. Yeah. Happy to keep on watch it. I'd rather watch the Flash than this too. Yeah, a thousand percent. Yeah. And this was a film that
Starting point is 00:13:54 I could, you could feel the studio meddling at its core that the cut downs were happening. You kind of just pick up on hints by who's cast in it and then by the limited screen time that they have for things. Oh yeah. And when you do this
Starting point is 00:14:10 excessive amount of ADR, Oh my goodness, yeah. That's when they are chopping this shit up and stitching it together. And you are stitching this up, which usually means you got some mandates that have been required by the studio for some reason. I feel like that's often the culprit when you get something that feels as spiritually bland and tasteless as this does. It's the combination of, I feel like, studio interference and also I think they're advertising. team is like their worst enemy for these movies. You know, we also talked about how the villain
Starting point is 00:14:47 repeated himself about 30 times about his motivation and why he needs to kill these girls. I wonder if I know why they kill him. But also too, like, he kept saying like everything I built. What did you build? Who are you? Did we ever see that? How did he get his money?
Starting point is 00:15:04 What is he trying to protect? I don't know anything about this guy other than he wants to kill these girls. And he's had a premonitions about them. I'm really curious if they're, because I remember the very early reports and you had some fun facts about it, too, Andrew. Yes, I did. And I remember the very early reports of it being a little bit more like a terminator-esque film, time traveling, trying to kill Peter Parker. And like that sounds like a, like, just Terminator, but Spider-Man.
Starting point is 00:15:30 And I'm like, that might have been a better film. But I am, part of me is wondering, like, did they make that movie and then decided to completely change it in the middle of film? And just insert it. Yeah. And then, like, ADR around and try to like... I wouldn't be surprised. Because the actual plot they have here, like I said, is one that if you infuse some heart and some personality, you got a pretty solid movie on your hands. And so it seems like they tried to, like, chipping the movie away to become that plot.
Starting point is 00:15:59 And so I'm surprised by it. And I think they should have leaned in a little, like, I think like Morbius has Matt Smith. who's a blast watch and who's on the exact right pitch to make his presence fun and to elevate the movie's sense of fun who's got a meme about him from that movie you know
Starting point is 00:16:20 so I'm saying like there's there's at least you get this even like the vulture moments and they're just so outlandish ridiculous so dumb that you're like it's a freaking amusing it's like it's terrible
Starting point is 00:16:34 but it's amusing and and I think they could have just leaned into the schlock or lean into it's so bad it's good you know find that way for it to be entertaining and instead this kind of reads a
Starting point is 00:16:49 this actually makes it feel a little more self-conscious to me because it doesn't just embrace what it is citizens of the reject nation or should I say royal rejects because that is who we call those who check out our RR
Starting point is 00:17:06 Apparel at Rejectnation Shop dot com. We come out with new designs every month or every two months. It is personally my favorite way you can support the channel. Reason being is because we are involved with every one of the exclusive are our designs that are up at the shop. Every month it's been growing every month, we are getting more and more royal rejects. And I really love to hear how people are finding the shirts to not just be cool looking, but also fit nicely and feel comfortable. I cared about that more than anything else. I'm a hairy guy, so I'm really like something of the fabric. We got a bunch of designs already,
Starting point is 00:17:37 such as our Super Marvel Bro shirt. My sister actually designed this one. Deadpool Wolverine inspired, my personal favorite one. But then we also got our number one bestseller. The Last Daddy T-shirt, which has Pedro Pascal from The Last of Us inspired, carrying baby Grogu. We have Loki's Glorious Balloon. We also have our Doctor Who shirt, which is full of a bunch of classic Doctor Who quotes on the Tartis. We have Space Babies of the Galaxy.
Starting point is 00:18:02 We got ourselves some Star Wars-inspired shirts. We got a boys-inspired shirt. And we have a House of the Dragon one as well, pointing those out because obviously we have new seasons of those shows coming up. And then, of course, you know, you got a bunch of other designs as well, like our Batverse one, who influences the influencers, another Last of Us inspired t-shirt. And of course, you know, the classic Reject symbolism t-shirts as well. Either one is an amazing way to support the channel. And like I said, you get to look good while doing it.
Starting point is 00:18:30 So thank you guys so much. Do consider going to Rejectnationshop.com. And also, tag us on social media if you end up by. a shirt. Please tag us. We'd love to see it when people do end up buying the shirts. Thank you, Royal Rejects. See you guys soon. It didn't feel like it embraced what it was setting out to be and it feels it just gives the sense that whatever changes were made were done hastily and late enough in the game that they couldn't really flesh or make those particularly rich either. So yeah, you're left with like
Starting point is 00:18:59 this middling patch job. Yeah, and just to add to your point, we've actually watched crappy films, but we've actually had a great time watching them. Like that was fun. That was entertaining. Shitty film, but that was a good time that we had. Well, because you got to commit and you got to make capital C choices to get into that territory. I mean, yeah. Man Webb, she doesn't even, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:19:20 She got her powers at the end. She just kept getting powers. Yeah. And being told like, hey, you're capable of this, but the movie never earns her upgrades. The upgrades are a little confusing. Her powers are a little bit outside of premonitions. A lot of her powers are a bit confusing. also too it's weird there's scenes and yet this movie just feels like one long chase sequence
Starting point is 00:19:42 like because yeah you never stop like i think one thing that spider man films in particular are often good at doing is doing the whole like oh pov i'm i'm learning a new power or something and again i like they do that with the visions cutting in and at least in a way where yes it's not new but to me was like momentarily effective in the moment but i feel like yeah you could have done that throughout the movie found excuses to create tension because like oh shit something's going on with me and i got to have my a game on but oh hey maybe i can like they did a nice enough job with her figuring out and sort of you know acclimating to the premonitions i thought maybe they could have carried that spirit through with any of her other abilities but no it just feels like
Starting point is 00:20:28 yeah once you're once you're aware of the astral plane you can just kind of think it and do it Yeah, I think this movie wanted to be Final Destination meets Terminator in the Spider-Man world and kind of failed on all fronts for, for me. By the way, if you guys are listening on audio or Spotify, make sure you give us a higher rating than you did for the movie. I just want to know, does this guy, does this movie give you a lot of faith for, has Sony instilled a lot of faith in you for Craven? No. Are you looking forward to that film now? I think they are damaging themselves badly because I don't feel like they're learning anything. They might learn.
Starting point is 00:21:09 There's going to be freaking tanked at the box office. Well, yeah, it's on streaming. What's about a month after? Honestly, rightfully so. Because at least Morbius becomes morbius. Like this, the fact that they put them in the suits in the trailers and they show that shit. That was shameful. I could not.
Starting point is 00:21:32 I am shocked by how much of a bait and switch that bullshit really is. That is straight up bullshit to do to your audience. And because you have a technicality that it was in your movie. Oh, that is here Ryan, George. I could just hear that's going to look great in the trailer. Please no, sir. Wow, they don't even. It's not even like them in the present moment dawns the suit.
Starting point is 00:22:01 and then they end there. Yeah, there's no present moments. Yeah, like, it's like, and they've been down the road, you might be wearing this. And a sequel that will never happen. And honestly, the sad part is,
Starting point is 00:22:13 it looks, they look good in the suits. Yeah, I would have loved to have seen them in the suits. I would have loved to have seen some training montages. When you see them fighting Ezekiel Sims,
Starting point is 00:22:24 he was like, you know what? This would have been a cool fight to see. Yeah. This would have been a really cool fight to see. That's why that, action sequence at the end is so disappointed. I want to see that other fight.
Starting point is 00:22:35 Yeah. It's an abysmal choice. I think that was a terrible choice. It is very, very disingenuous. It feels quite disingenuous. It's like, wow. Now I'm starting to understand the titles I've seen of videos that are like, I don't know exactly what they were, but they had something of the tone of, you know, Sony, this must
Starting point is 00:23:00 stop, shit like that, you know? And I think I just thought it meant like, I've got on a shitty Spider-Man movie, but I think that has to be what they're talking about. Is this bullshit? Like, you can't do that. You did that with Morbius, and you did that here.
Starting point is 00:23:16 You can't just keep doing that. It's very clear baiting, and it's not in the way that, like, yeah, that people manipulate trailers, but I think there's a way to do it to where the audience understands the function and it equates to a bigger surprise when you get to the theater. And that's what they're kneecapping themselves with is they're taking the surprise out and then giving you nothing on top of
Starting point is 00:23:34 it once you buy the ticket. And that feels super cynical. And I feel like it's one of those things where I get it, it's hard to want to commit to being campy. But part of me feels like, and I know Koi said this too, like if they would commit to being the quirkier, slightly older school universe and not feel like they're trying to be cool, it feels like these movies up till now have like wound up that way kind of by happenstance and they want them to be super cool and awesome and for a minute there it felt like we could almost get to a point where they just embrace what they have and then lean into that strangeness but something like this does not it's yeah it suggests like no no no we want to make something actually cool and serious and dramatic and that people like respond to them as if it was the
Starting point is 00:24:19 MCU or some shit um but even that tide is now changing so like i don't know what to make of what this what the sony in association with marvel is going to even be in any length of time from now because yeah i don't know it just doesn't seem like they're confident in what they're in their mission statement at the moment and they won't commit to the whole like we're in the spider man like i don't know what the rules are dealing with marvel but like yeah you have ben parker show up and you have uh Emma Roberts and stuff and then they disappear for like most of the movie yeah and then that feels just like they're bored yeah he's bored just randomly he's just pregnant bored the baby's for it.
Starting point is 00:24:58 And then all of a sudden, like, oh, no, and then you guys are in the middle of this intense action sequence because the baby's being born right now. No point in it being in the movie. Yeah. It just felt like some random and then shit. It's all connected, guys. It's so at least calling Peter, so you kind of feel like you got Spider-Man. This movie is just one big tease in so many different ways of what could have possibly been.
Starting point is 00:25:19 Yeah. That's the Sony Spider-Man of action movies for most part. Except for Venom, I guess. Benham 2 is the only one. Yeah, I mean, I like Venom. But I think Sony's been a little unconfidence in South the gate would Venom because he's a villain. And then they were like, oh, but we can't just do a straight-up villain. Let's, you've got to basically make him a hero.
Starting point is 00:25:41 Yeah, yeah. He's not really even an anti-hero this time. He's just a hero with a grouchy attitude. Yeah. Yeah. And I think that's where they've failed since the beginning. Or Craven's going to be full-on, like, animal protector. Yeah, but hey, okay.
Starting point is 00:26:01 Okay. Andrew Lodge rate it. Out of what? 10. Out of 10? I'll give it a little higher than Batman and Robin. I'll go, actually, no, that movie was actually entertaining if you look at it from the 60s. That movie is committed to what it is.
Starting point is 00:26:20 Yeah, that's true. Shamelessly. That movie I gave like a 2.7. I'll go 2.6 for this. Nice. Yeah, I'm like a 2. I saw into the future and I rated it low.
Starting point is 00:26:31 So just to save your guys' asses, I'm going to rate it high. It's 12 out of 10. Whoa. It's the best movie. Okay. John likes everything. I do.
Starting point is 00:26:42 I don't know. It was fine. That Sony check must be nice right now. I wasn't egregiously bored, nor was it as enthralling as I had hoped. So I'll just give it a flat five. I was egregiously bored at this. I don't think I've ever seen you start to get.
Starting point is 00:26:56 Normally, if I start to yawn, it's like, oh, it's because I've been tired through the day. Yeah. And so I could hide this yawn, but I'm engaged. Now I'm like, I have just struggling to keep my eyes open right now. Now you know, you need to fall asleep. Just work this movie on. There's certain things that can make me go to bed. And I was like, I'm actually like, I need to stay awake.
Starting point is 00:27:15 I need to stay. I'm not, I'm not being hyperbolic here. I was like, I need to stay awake right now. I would love the thumbnail of this video is you sleeping. It would be a good. It's indicative. I don't feel about the film. All right.
Starting point is 00:27:31 Bye. Maria Hammond. Maria. Did you get it? Have you seen the heavens, Maria? Have you beheld the beauty of your spirit in the sky? She did get it. I hope so.
Starting point is 00:27:52 she didn't tell me she got it well you don't talk to her like i did oh what are you trying to say that that maria loves you more than me no i'm saying i actually take the time to talk to her oh wow shots fired well maria i'm talking to you now all right and uh oh my that's really
Starting point is 00:28:10 gracious if you do it right here on a camera won't take the time in your private life i only do good deeds when i can be lauded for them respect again yeah respect again you know that's what the lord hath taught me as I should be praying out on street corners. I donate anonymously. I donate bills with my face on them,
Starting point is 00:28:29 just so that people know where they came from. And that they're worthless. Like me, Maria, I've been worthless, but I'm going to be better to you, all right? In the new year of our Lord, 2024, minus the three, two and a half months that have gone by already. I am going to annoy the shit out of you with attention and with love. And with compliments to the point where you're going to be like, whoa, whoa, whoa, okay, I'm not that great. Like, calm it down. Don't overdo it.
Starting point is 00:28:58 And I'm going to be like, no, I have to now because I got to make up for lost time. I will prove them wrong, all right? I can get there. I can fix it. I can fix you. I can fix everybody. I can please everybody. But I'm starting with you, Maria.
Starting point is 00:29:19 So thanks for being here. Thanks for being kind. Keep on shining. And, yeah, I'm sorry already for just how much John is going to be in your life moving forward. I'd say see you soon. It's already happening. Hit me up. Hit me up.
Starting point is 00:29:52 Thank you.
